The visible world is not the whole story. According to Hebrews, everything we can see is temporary and derivative, made out of something greater and pointing toward something eternal. Faith is not simply agreeing that God exists. It means aiming your entire life toward the highest reality, which is the suffering and risen Christ who holds all things together. Every person places their trust in something, and the only question is whether that something is worthy. When life gets hard, the call is not to search your circumstances for hope. The call is to fix your eyes on Jesus, consider who He is, what He endured, and where He now sits at the right hand of the Father.

The relationship between a pastor and a congregation is one of the most important dynamics in the life of a local church. Jesus is the Great Shepherd, and every earthly pastor serves under His authority as an under-shepherd. Pastors are called to lead, teach, and care for their people with faithfulness and integrity. At the same time, congregations are called to follow well, be a joy to shepherd, and pray consistently for those who lead them. If you want a better pastor, the best place to start is by being a better sheep. Good sheep and good shepherds, working together under the lordship of Jesus Christ, is the context in which God does His greatest work.
In this Father's Day sermon, the pastor explores Romans 8:12-17 to unpack what it means that God is our heavenly Father. Using the image of a child jumping into a parent's arms in a pool, the sermon addresses the fears we carry about whether God is strong enough, loving enough, and trustworthy enough to catch us. Just as Israel struggled to trust God through the wilderness, we often hesitate to fully leap into the life God has for us. The central message is clear: do not be afraid, because the Father will catch you. The pastor outlines three ways the Father catches us. Daniel's prayer life demonstrates three key characteristics: personal holiness built through decades of faithful relationship with God, profound understanding of Scripture, and passionate engagement through fasting and honest supplication. Effective prayer aligns us with God's purposes through praise, claiming His promises, seeking pardon, and making petitions that honor His glory. While God's sovereignty remains absolute, He has chosen to work through our intercession, changing us in the process and drawing us into His kingdom work.
In a culture that struggles to define basic truths, we must examine what children truly are. Jesus understood children's nature and value, seeing them as central to God's kingdom. Children are good assets who deserve our highest value because they are made in God's image. They serve as examples, possessing qualities like trust, love, curiosity, and present-moment living that we should emulate in our faith. Most importantly, children are investments requiring our cultivation through grace, wisdom, and the gospel. We must stop hindering children through excessive screen time and over-scheduling, instead creating homes filled with God's Word and recognition of their precious nature.
True biblical gratitude goes far beyond saying thank you. Jesus consistently gave thanks and then broke bread, demonstrating that authentic thanksgiving involves being transformed and broken open for others. When we truly receive Christ's gift of salvation, we don't just acknowledge it - we put it on like clothing, allowing His life to become our life. This transformation naturally leads to serving fellow believers and proclaiming the Gospel to the world. The woman with the alabaster vial exemplified this when her overwhelming gratitude led her to break something precious and give it away. You're not truly thanking until you're breaking.
In a culture that prioritizes tolerance over truth, Christians often struggle with confronting false beliefs. Paul's approach with the Corinthian church provides a biblical framework for spiritual warfare. He teaches us that our battle is fundamentally spiritual, not against people but against the lies that hold them captive. Our weapons are divinely powerful - prayer, love, and God's truth - and should be wielded from a position of humility rather than strength. The goal isn't to win arguments but to build people up in Christ, approaching difficult conversations with genuine love and concern for others' spiritual well-being.
God designed families as the primary vehicle for passing down faith from generation to generation. Through the example of Timothy's grandmother Lois and mother Eunice, we see how faith is cultivated over time through faithful family investment. God gives families three essential gifts to pass down: power through tireless stability, love through unlimited affection, and sound thinking through incredible biblical content. Scripture works in families through teaching, reproving, correcting, and training in righteousness. The gospel foundation of Christ's death and resurrection becomes the cornerstone that makes families work, calling us to lay down our lives for one another. When families live out gospel truth, they become reflections of God's love to a hungry world.
Hannah's story reveals that model motherhood isn't about perfection, but about faithfulness to God's purposes. Living during Israel's chaotic period, Hannah demonstrates three key characteristics: worshiping the sovereign Lord while recognizing His greater plan, crying out honestly to God in times of struggle and brokenness, and serving sacrificially by holding loosely to what we love most. Her barrenness represents our fundamental need for God's intervention, and her eventual willingness to give Samuel back to God shows the ultimate sacrifice of motherhood. Hannah found satisfaction not in getting what she wanted, but in surrendering her desires to the Lord, teaching us that true fulfillment comes from giving ourselves completely to God rather than trying to control outcomes through our own strength.
Paul wrote Colossians to combat false teachings that diminished Christ's deity and promoted legalistic practices. He celebrates three marks of genuine faith: faith specifically in Christ Jesus, love for all people including those different from us, and hope that transforms our entire lives. The gospel demands both repentance and faith, requiring surrender to Jesus as Lord and a transformed life of obedience. Paul's prayer model shows believers should seek knowledge of God's will, walk worthy of their calling, and endure with supernatural strength. Our salvation represents a dramatic rescue from Satan's kingdom of darkness into Christ's kingdom of light, complete with redemption and forgiveness of sins.

Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount by presenting life's most crucial decision: choosing Him.
Everyone is heading toward one of two eternal destinations - heaven or hell, life or destruction. The
path to Jesus is narrow and difficult, requiring sacrifice and going against worldly values, while the
broad path appears easy but leads to destruction. When life's storms come, only Jesus provides a
foundation that will endure. This isn't just about eternal destiny but about how to live today, as
everything else will ultimately fail except Christ and His teachings.
Jesus offers a kingdom approach to helping struggling people that goes beyond harsh criticism or
complete avoidance. This method involves five key principles: using Jesus as our standard rather
than personal preferences, examining ourselves before helping others, recognizing when someone is
ready to receive help, seeking God's wisdom through prayer, and applying the Golden Rule by treating
others how we would want to be treated. True kingdom intervention requires both courage to get
involved and careful wisdom in how we approach those who are struggling
Palm Sunday reveals Jesus as a radically different kind of king who deliberately chose humility over power. By riding a donkey instead of a war horse, Jesus demonstrated that his kingdom operates on upside-down values where strength comes through weakness and victory through sacrifice. His entry into Jerusalem wasn't about political conquest but about bringing judgment through mercy and grace. The religious leaders expected a Messiah who would validate their exclusivity, but Jesus welcomed the unexpected and extended compassion to the marginalized. This challenges believers to embrace servant leadership and show scandalous grace to others, recognizing that following Jesus means adopting his inverted value system where true greatness comes through humble service.
Jesus teaches that prayer isn't a last resort but the central practice of kingdom living. Unlike worldly approaches that prioritize busyness and action, kingdom people understand that prayer is how God's heavenly realm invades our broken earthly reality. The Lord's Prayer provides a pattern focusing first on God's glory, kingdom, and will, then on our daily needs for provision, forgiveness, and protection. True prayer is relationship with our Father, not religious performance or transaction. When we pray according to Jesus' pattern, seeking God's kingdom first, Heaven invades earth through our lives.
Jesus teaches that our words carry tremendous kingdom power, whether we realize it or not. In Matthew
5:33-37, He reveals that simple, truthful speech—a genuine yes or no—can unleash God's kingdom
authority. Every word we speak is either truth that blesses and establishes God's reality, or a lie that
distorts and rejects His design. Our speech reveals the true condition of our hearts, and when aligned with
God's truth, our words become keys to the kingdom. Rather than using elaborate oaths or manipulative
language, we're called to speak with kingdom authority, saying yes to things that advance God's purposes
and no to things that don't.
Jesus teaches one of his most challenging commands: love your enemies. This isn't just a nice suggestion but the revolutionary foundation of God's upside-down kingdom. While the world operates on loving friends and hating enemies, Jesus introduces a completely different way of living. We must first recognize that we ourselves have been God's enemies, yet he loved us anyway. God demonstrates perfect love by extending it even to those who oppose him. Enemy love means walking toward difficult people rather than away, laying down our lives for others, and acting in pure faith. This revolutionary approach has been transforming the world for 2,000 years, opening possibilities for change that force never could.
Jesus introduced His kingdom as everything people needed but nothing they expected. In Matthew 5:17-20, He reveals that the Christian life comes down to aiming at the right target and hitting it. Many believers mistake the pointers for the point itself, creating checklists of behaviors instead of pursuing the real target. All of Scripture points to Jesus and finds fulfillment in Him. Our righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees, not through more rules but by following the Torah of the Messiah. Jesus calls us to supernatural perfection - being mature and complete with God's character, not just following rules well.
Jesus presents a revolutionary Kingdom Manifesto in the Sermon on the Mount that completely overturns worldly expectations of blessing and success. Instead of promising prosperity to the powerful, He declares blessing upon the poor in spirit, those who mourn, and the meek. God consistently chooses unlikely people - the zeros to be His heroes - because empty people can be filled and those with nothing to lose are willing to give everything away. This upside-down kingdom rewards strange behavior like hungering for righteousness, showing mercy to the undeserving, and making peace even when it leads to persecution. When we embrace these counterintuitive values, we become salt and light to the world, demonstrating God's glory through our willingness to serve rather than be served.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is meant to transform our daily lives, not just be celebrated once a year. Living a resurrection life means experiencing freedom from sin's power and embracing new life in God. This transformation requires choosing between two masters: either sin rules your life, or God does. True freedom comes through submission to God, simplifying our lives by removing distractions, putting sinful habits to death, and actively serving others. The same resurrection power that raised Jesus is available to transform how we live each day, helping us become who God created us to be.
In our cluttered world, we often become overwhelmed by possessions, commitments, and worries that fragment our attention and steal our peace. Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:25-34 that sometimes we must go without many things to focus on what truly matters most. He points to birds and flowers as examples of creatures that thrive without frantic worry, doing what they were created to do while trusting God for provision. The key is simplifying three areas: our possessions (recognizing everything belongs to God), our goals (seeking God's kingdom first), and our schedule (focusing on today rather than worrying about tomorrow). True life isn't found in accumulating more stuff but in living with kingdom purpose and trusting God's daily provision.
As Easter approaches, Christians are called to prepare their hearts through the spiritual discipline of fasting. Jesus assumed fasting would be a normal part of spiritual life, alongside prayer and giving. Fasting helps us go without worldly desires so we can go with Jesus more fully. This discipline teaches us to submit to God's Word, simplify our lives for kingdom focus, suffer alongside Christ under the weight of the cross, and serve others through righteous work. The practice creates space for spiritual growth by removing distractions and redirecting our attention, affections, and actions toward God's purposes.

The story of Moses' birth in Exodus reveals how believers should respond when culture turns against the vulnerable. When Pharaoh ordered Hebrew babies killed, midwives, Moses' mother, and even Pharaoh's daughter risked everything to protect life. Their courage shows three key principles: we must confront culture when it goes wrong, recognize every baby as fundamentally good, and be willing to sacrifice for life. Just as these women feared God rather than the king, modern believers are called to stand for life through prayer, support, adoption, and practical help for families. Because God values babies, we must help them live.
When life overwhelms us, God teaches us to pray from the depths. Psalm 130 reveals four essential truths about prayer in difficult times: it's a cry from the depths to an attentive God, a plea for mercy from undeserving sinners, active waiting from expectant believers, and hope anchored in God's character. The depths aren't meant to push us away from God but to drive us deeper into prayer. In these low places, we learn to trust God alone and discover His unfailing love and abundant redemption. Rather than demanding fairness, we approach God as merciful supplicants who desperately need His grace.
Life brings unexpected storms that can feel overwhelming and beyond our control. The story of Noah and the flood teaches us where to find refuge during these difficult seasons. When floods come in our lives, we need to enter four arks: God's Word, which provides our foundation and guidance; God's judgment, which refines and strengthens our faith; God's people, who offer support and community; and God's presence, which sustains us even in the darkest moments. Instead of trying to navigate life's storms alone, we must trust God's direction and find safety in these four arks He has provided.
As a new year begins, we often look ahead with hope—or anxiety—wondering whether the coming days will truly be “happy.” In Psalm 103, David redirects our focus by calling his own soul to remember the Lord and His benefits. Rather than anchoring joy in changing circumstances, David roots confidence in the unchanging character of God.
The psalm reminds us that the past matters, not because we dwell there, but because it reveals God’s faithfulness—He forgives, heals, redeems, and crowns His people with steadfast love. At the same time, the future matters, not because it is predictable, but because it belongs to a God who renews strength and satisfies His people with good things.
Ultimately, the key truth emerges: who we know is more important than what we face. Circumstances may shift, health may falter, plans may change—but those who are securely held by Jesus can face a new year with genuine hope. The answer to the question, “Happy New Year?” is found not in the calendar, but in Christ. It is a happy new year for all who are in the grip of Jesus.
Paul's experience of giving thanks during a life-threatening storm at sea reveals how faith can transform
our darkest moments. While trapped in a hurricane for two weeks, Paul shared a meal that echoed the
Lord's Supper, demonstrating that we can find gratitude even in crisis. Storms have a unique way of
clarifying what truly matters, stripping away everything nonessential and revealing our core values. They
also create opportunities for genuine community, as Paul invited everyone on the ship to share the meal
together. Most remarkably, God can use our storms to accomplish His purposes, just as this very storm was
blowing Paul exactly where he needed to go to fulfill his mission.
The early church provides powerful examples of faithful and unfaithful giving through Barnabas and Ananias and Sapphira. Barnabas demonstrated Spirit-led generosity that became the foundation for his world-changing ministry, while Ananias and Sapphira's deception served as a warning about lying to the Holy Spirit. Faithful giving flows from three key principles: it's a disposition of the heart rather than a calculated decision, it's motivated by love for the church body rather than personal impulses, and it's directed by the Holy Spirit rather than driven by emotions. Our giving patterns reveal what we truly believe about God's ownership, provision, and trustworthiness. When we give faithfully like Barnabas, we position ourselves for greater ministry opportunities and align our hearts with God's purposes.
God's sovereignty means nothing exists apart from His relationship, nothing happens outside His purposeful activity, and nothing can thwart His gracious design in Christ. The apostles in Acts 5 demonstrate how we can live fearlessly despite opposition because God's plans cannot be stopped, as proven by Christ's resurrection. We don't need to fear failure because when we align with God's will, ultimate victory is assured. We don't need to fear inadequacy because God uses ordinary people and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. We don't need to fear pain because opposition often confirms we're walking in obedience, and suffering for Christ's sake is an honor that makes us more like our Savior.
Many Christians struggle to find spiritual energy and joy to share their faith because they misunderstand
repentance as God's anger rather than His love. True repentance is a continuous lifestyle of turning toward
God, motivated by His desire for our good and His glory. Using Psalm 51 as a model, loving repentance
involves three key elements: love forgives completely, love restores what sin has broken, and love teaches
us to become witnesses of God's mercy. One major obstacle to spiritual vitality is harboring bitterness,
which grows in darkness and steals our joy. When we practice loving repentance and release bitterness, we
become energized witnesses who naturally want to share God's transforming love with others.
In Acts 3:19, Peter promises times of refreshing that come from God's presence after repentance. This unique biblical phrase describes the moment when our deepest spiritual thirst is finally satisfied and we experience incredible relief from life's burdens. God desires to pour out His fullness on us, but we often don't truly want it because it requires complete transformation. Revival comes through Jesus Christ alone and demands two crucial steps: repenting (changing our mind about what truly matters) and returning (making a 180-degree turn toward Christ). To experience God's refreshing presence, we must abandon worldly priorities and surrender completely to His lordship.
Acts 2 reveals the essential pattern for all believers: being filled with the Spirit and formed by the Word. The early church positioned themselves through prayer, waiting expectantly, and immersing themselves in Scripture. Being filled with the Spirit means allowing God's Spirit to control our lives, bringing creation out of uncreation and light out of darkness. When we're truly filled with both Spirit and Word, we naturally share the Gospel with others in ways they can understand. This pattern—positioning ourselves, being filled, and then sharing—remains our model for authentic Christian living today.
The Church in Acts wasn’t just a crowd—it was a calling. A Spirit-filled movement of people living in unity, mission, and power. In this series, we’ll rediscover what it means to be the body of Christ today: not just gathering, but going; not just believing, but becoming. Let’s learn to see the Church as God intended—and be the Church the world needs.

Moses initially ordered the Israelites to bring offerings, but the people's contributions were so plentiful that Moses had to restrain them, telling them to stop because they had more than enough. Everywhere we look, there are fences. In fact, boundaries are so fundamental, without them, there would be nothing to see at all. We can look at these boundaries, these fences, in one of two ways. Negatively, boundaries constrain us. They get in our way. Wouldn’t it be better to be free of them? But, positively, boundaries tell us who we are, what we’re for, and how to be rightly related to everything else. Truly, “good fences make good neighbors.” The book of Genesis shows us that the goodness of God’s creation is possible only through the goodness of the boundaries He has set. Trusting His boundaries is abundant life; rejecting them is deprivation and death. Christ alone is the restoration of God’s “good fences,” and trusting Him gives us a new Genesis, a chance to begin again.

For a while, it’s easy to ignore what’s below the surface. You can assume for a long time that things at the base ARE fine because things you can see LOOK fine. But in fact, by the time tiny cracks appear in the walls of a house, the cracks in the foundation are extensive and serious.
During this series, you will be challenged to make a foundation check. Jesus says that His words alone are a sufficient foundation. Paul tells the Corinthians that Christ alone is the only foundation upon which a life can be built. Is your life resting on a firm foundation?

“Why do you seek the Living One among the Dead?” This is the question of Easter. This is the question asked of the followers of Jesus since that very first Resurrection Morning. This promise of God has always been clear: “Those who seek Me will find Me, if they seek Me with all their heart” (Deut. 4:29, 1 Chr. 28:9, 2 Chr. 15:12, Ps. 119:2, Jer. 29.13). The desire of Christ is that we would know His presence. He is not playing “hide-and-seek.” He has not burdened us with some enigmatic treasure map, esoteric list of clues, or exacting set of tasks. Instead, He gives us Himself in the immediacy of His presence. He wants to be found not by only those who are quick-witted or qualified but by the foolish and the weak.
So, if you are not walking intimately with the Savior, could it be that you are simply looking in the places He refuses to be? In the resurrection accounts in the Gospels, we find Jesus meeting people everywhere, under all kinds of circumstances, encountering people with various dispositions of belief. He meets them on the road, on the beach, behind locked doors. He meets them in their fear, their ignorance, their doubt, their failure, and their patent unfaith. But He will not meet them as a dead man, a ghost, or a vision. He only meets them as the Living One. He wants them to touch his wounds that they may know for certain that Death has done its best to defeat Him but that He has won decisively. Even though Jesus is still in the graveyard when He finally speaks with Mary, He is outside the tomb, anxious to leave, and refuses to be held in place.
So, where are you hoping to find Jesus this Easter? Safely and quietly locked away? Entombed in cool, mysterious darkness? Close enough to commemorate yet far enough away that his Life and Words remain muffled, indistinct, and unbinding?
He will not meet you there. He will not meet you like that.
He is Alive!

Hope. This one word sums up the great longing in the heart of every person, the great longing for broken things to be repaired, for needs to be met, for wrongs to be put right. Hope was certainly reverberating in the hearts of the people of Judea the night a baby’s cry was heard from a Bethlehem manger. For almost five centuries they had been waiting and watching for God to do what He had promised, to send someone to lead them to freedom. Jesus was not the Savior they expected but He was the Savior they needed. He was the hope they didn’t even know they had. Their problem wasn’t political or economic or psychological. It wasn’t located in Rome or the Temple or their neighbor’s house or their spouse’s side of the bed. Their problem, THE problem, was right in the center of their very own hearts. If hope was to be experienced anywhere, it needed to be experienced in their hearts first. And so has it ever been. Jesus is still the hope of every person, the possibility that our shattered lives can be put back together better than ever.

When Moses first caught sight of the burning bush, he couldn’t have been further away from God’s will for his life. All of his dreams had long been buried in the sands of Egypt. He was completely comfortable in his “second-best sandals.” Moses was finished…but God was not. Into those shadowy circumstances, a strange light began to shine. Would Moses approach this new direction properly? Could he learn to live “shoeless”?

Christ came to set us free - not free to do whatever we please because that would lead us back into that slavery to self. Rather, thanks to Christ, we are now free and able to do what was impossible before - to live unselfishly. Freedom or license to sin is no freedom at all, because it enslaves us to Satan, others, or our own sinful nature. Christians, by contrast should not be slaves to sin, because they are free to do right and to glorify God through loving service to others. Pastor Eric teaches about a true declaration of independence that will make an eternal difference.

The Temple had been destroyed many years before, so there was no altar for burning sacrifices. The peoples means of reconciliation with God had been discontinued; their spiritual life had been cut off. But before they could proceed with rebuilding, they needed to get their relationship with God straightened out. The Israelites reestablished the sacrifices as a means of reconciliation. We too need to reconcile ourselves to God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ in order to progress spiritually. Ad the people rebuilt, they stopped all along the way to praise God at every completed part. Though Israel would never regain its previous status in the world, God promised that the new Jerusalem would be the center of God's eternal Kingdom. Like the Israelites we ought to look forward to what God is doing. Do you need restoration? There are some things one needs to remember to be fully restored.

David realized the Lord had confirmed him as king. He knew that his greatness came only from God. To be great means keeping a close relationship with God personally and nationally. To do this David has to keep his ambition in check. Altho he was famous, successful, and well liked, he gave God first place and served the people according to God's purposes. Some disciples received the new of Jesus' resurrection quite readily while others were more reticent. But Jesus' resurrection was not an end in itself, nor was it given for just his closest disciples. The message of new life through faith in the crucified and resurrected Christ is to be offered to all the nations of the world. Family life for Christians functions differently than family life for nonreligious families or families of other faiths. The Christian family is more than the nuclear family of husband, wife, children; and it’s more than just marriage, singleness and parenting. Rather, it is a combination of the biological and spiritual family that creates the church, the body of Christ.

In this familiar story we are shown the consequences of selfishness. Insulated by all the material comforts of life, this rich man never reflected on his spiritual needs or his shortcomings, and he was consigned to help. The beggar Lazarus, however, lacked basic material needs and suffered physical pain in his lifetime, but he was prepared for eternity. Death proved to be the great equalizer, effecting a reversal of fortune for these two. God wants us to have the proper attitude toward money and possessions and to use them unselfishly to help others.

The Story of Samson is a chronicle of Israel’s failure to live up to their divine calling after entering the promised land. In the same way, Samson failed to live up to his divine calling. But now, just as the weather is warming and Covid cases are declining, just as the days are lengthening and new life is sprouting all around: It’s Easter! The greatest of all Comeback Stories bursts into view. Jesus has absorbed every blow on our behalf and gives us the victory. That is the very definition of “the gospel.” It is “good news” from a foreign country that, despite every expectation of total destruction, victory has completely displaced defeat. The Apostle John loved seeing his children in the faith walking in the truth. At the time of writing this letter, he is an old man who has been through many trials. He pastored the church in Ephesus as well as shepherding several smaller churches in the region. Our faith is a daily walk and each day we are to travel the path God has set before us. For young Christians in fairly new churches, it was essential that the truth be their guide. No one likes to start over…especially when you are in high gear, super busy or checking things off your list. Or maybe you are barely making it, treading water, doing your best to maintain. Brighter than Christmas tree lights. Brighter than Rudolph’s nose. This Light is so bright it destroys the shadows and darkness even of sin, of despair and of death. This Light makes everything bright. Isaiah says that “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” (Is. 9:2). When the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, John writes He is the “True Light coming into the world. The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it.” (John 1:5). Later, Jesus says of Himself, “I AM the Light of the World.” (John 8:12). Jesus. Light. Dispelling darkness. Making sure “All is Bright”.
