LIFE BY DESIGN shares stories of discovering purpose, whether through leaving a vocation to pursue one’s passion or whether discovering your purpose through pain or any other life event. The aim of the programme is to inspire listeners to tap into their full potential. It is a One on One in studio interview where the presenter talks to the guest who shares about their background and their life story/experience of discovering their passion. The show features a surprise guest- through a telephonic or in studio interview – during the 3rd segment. It is a 4 segment show – Introduction & welcome as well as sharing background information, Journey to discovering purpose/passion, Surprise guest feature to talk through the guests’ pursuit of purpose & impact thereof (this can be a parent, a friend, a mentee, an expert, etc) & Lessons learnt & to share plus parting shots and presenter wrap up that closes with a song.

On the show today we are joined by Vincent Luyanda Ntunja, a successful South African professional model, a television presenter, motivational speaker and a philanthropist based in Cape Town. Ntunja also participates competitively in the game of basketball which he started playing 12 years ago in the dusty streets of Gugulethu and has been fortunate enough to represent South Africa from the junior level until the senior national team. Giving back is also important to Ntunja who is involved in Hoops for Hope, an international Non-Governmental Organisation that uses basketball to reach out to underprivileged kids. He was introduced to the SA music industry through the 90s Kwaito group TKZ that he joined in 2000. Loyiso went solo in 2001 and went on to become South Africa’s king of R ‘n B and a multiple award-winning artist. Now offering gospel tunes, Loyiso was recently appointed as Trinity Broadcasting Network Africa Channel Director
In this episode we are joined by renowned South African businesswoman, philanthropist and reality TV star, Shauwn Mkhize, better known as ‘Mammkhize’. She was born and raised in the village of Embumbulu in KwaZulu-Natal. On the show today we are joined by the legendary former Kwaito Queen – Queen Sesoko. The former Abashante lead vocalist left the kwaito music scene and is now a gospel singer. She is married to the legendary Boxer Masibulele Hawk Makepula – both pastoring in East London, SA. After being forced to leave the 999 music stable, Queen suffered from depression, with multiple thoughts of suicide. She allowed the pain and rejection she suffered to lead her to her purpose. Queen joins us on the line to share her experience.

Born Ntombezinhle Jiyane in Dannhauser in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, growing up, DJ Zinhle wanted to be a TV presenter until her brother's passion for mixing vinyl’s rubbed off on her and her love and passion for being a DJ grew. Fast forward to 2020, DJ Zinhle is an award-winning DJ, having won the Forbes Woman Africa Entertainer Award & a Namibian Annual Music Award for Umlilo. She is a serial entrepreneur and a mother. She believes she has a purpose to serve and in being the director of her own life.
We first speak to Gugulethu Dube, an 18-year old aspiring educator from Gauteng province in South Africa. Gugu was born with a condition that is slowly causing her to lose her sight but she has not allowed her condition to stop her from pursuing her dreams. Later we will be joined by South African female bass guitarist, Portia Sibiya, who has worked with various artists including such as the band Stimela, Thandiswa Mazwai, Tshepo Tshola, Lira, Ringo Madlingozi, Zim Nqawana and many others. Portia is from Women in Music, a group of musicians that have come together to celebrate legends in the industry. She’ll talk to us a little bit later about a project they’re working on in honour of musician Joe Nina.
Today on the show we are joined by a man who needs no introduction – the legendary musician, DJ and businessman Oscar, AKA Oskido, Oscar Warona, Mdlongwa. Born to a Zimbabwean father and a South African mother in Brits, in North West, South Africa, Oskido spent most of his early life in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and returned to South Africa after completing his basic education. Oskido is the co-founder of Kalawa Jazmee records an independent record label based in South Africa. The label is reputable as a major contributor to the development of the Kwaito genre of music in South Africa.
Today on the show we are joined on the line by Rox-Anne Mistry who is the founder of Who Told You Ministries – a platform where she encourages others not to give up on life because of their life situations. She is a pastor and has participated in pageants like Mrs South Africa and Mrs Johannesburg. Rox-Anne used her painful past and upbringing to reach out to those who experience rejection as she only found out at age 16 that she was living with a foster family that she for years she though was her biological family. She believes her painful experience pointed her to her purpose. She joins us on the line to share her story.

The group has used music to be the voice for social change not only in Zimbabwe but in the continent as a whole. We talk to Tinashe about how he’s merging his career in accounting and music to further his purpose.
Cosmetologist Sarinah Matema Morgans from South Africa’s Limpopo province left a thriving career in the beauty industry to pursue a childhood dream of owning a business that specialises in beauty. Her journey to clinching her biggest business deal yet in the latter part of 2017 was not without hurdles and she shares how she overcame those. She now supplies her own range of beauty and body care products to South Africa’s foremost retailer Pick ‘n Pay.

Born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria – the former Super Eagles goalkeeper grew up in a Christian home – raised by parents who were pastors. His talent in football brought him to South Africa where he was a goalkeeper for Moroka Swallows. Today on the show we are joined by Nontobeko Zanele Phakathi, A 21 year old Beauty Queen and Philanthropist. Zanele became the youngest Miss South Africa finalist in 2019. She is currently a Business Information Technology student at the University of Johannesburg and is the Founder and CEO of ZA Power House and Soweto Diamonds Model Academy and is the co-founder of Soweto Royalty Foundation. Her philanthropy work earned Zanele the spot of a 1st runner up in the SA Heroes Awards 2019 under the category Youth Empowerment, Young Lead SA top 20 female change markers (2018) and recently got awarded the Rain Maker award (2019) by the South West Gauteng College.
In our Rising Star feature we talk to LERATO MOROTOLO- a young philanthropist, entrepreneur and aspiring public relations practitioner. Lerato is the founder of the Warmth Is Comfort initiative which she started in 2015.

Originally from Nigeria, Adora’s music style resonates across various cultures and ethnicities. She has released two musical projects. Her debut album-- For His Worship, launched Adaora's music career although she has been engaged generally in music for over 15 years. Adaora is also a seasoned professional, serving in the US Air Force. With a PhD in medicinal chemistry, she currently works to improve Army medical programs. In our Rising Star feature we pay tribute to our producer Bradley Tshabalala who passed away in a car accident on Sunday.
Today on the show we are joined by Dr Winnie Tshirumbula - an author and speaker based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She’s an ordained pastor and is the founder of The Uncommon Woman Ministry among other organisations she’s part of. Dr Tshirumbula is a Manager at Gauteng Department of Finance in Johannesburg. She’s the author of a book titled ‘Woman the gatekeeper’ – and our theme today looks at the role of gatekeepers given the activism of Black Lives Matter and other movements advocating for change. Who should keep a guard over the society in these times? Who are the gatekeepers and what are their roles? But before we get into that we look at Dr Tshirumbula’s journey to her place of purpose and activism.
Our rising star this week is 21 year old youth activist Zoleka Monta who is the President of Girl Up, Johannesburg.
In this episode of Life by Design, we speak to Lebitso Ramphore, a mentor and holistic coach. Born and bred in Rustenburg in South Africa’s North West province, Lebitso added businesswoman and beauty queen to her titles. She is the founder of Ostibel Africa, a brand that produces organic products for hair, face and body. She was a finalist in the Mrs South Africa 2017 pageant. Lebitso recently published a spiritual memoir titled ‘Be still’ – and she’s joining us on Life by Design to share her journey to her place of purpose.
Our rising star this week is 33 year old Martin Masitise who is the founder of Mohlalefi Engineering. Martin was not satisfied with just being and employee as a qualified mechanical engineer but decided to take a leap of faith and chase his dreams and today his company employs 36 people.
Today we are joined by Themba Dlamini, from Johannesburg, South Africa. Themba’s passion for people was ignited at an early age, from organizing events in high school to joining youth cultural groups. He pursued fashion after matriculating and had to drop out due to financial constraints. He then later started working in corporate and the job required him to stand in front of people every single day. All in the while, Themba struggled with a mental illness and has come across a lot of obstacles and ailments in his life but it was the mental illness that woke him up and became clear that it was his calling. He joins us to tell us about how he started Right in Your backyard - a movement that tackles mental illness.
In this episode Life by Design speaks to Amanda Wichmann, an educator and poet KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Growing up, Amanda wanted to be a Psychologist and had love for performing arts. After completing high school she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree with English and Psychology as major subjects with the intention of continuing with Psychology. She found herself in the teaching profession which she started in 2003, and says that it was God who lead her towards this career path. She recently published a poetry book called Chasing Joy with a collection of 64 poems. She writes from the heart and some poems have been used for school competitions and book fairs.
On this episode we are joined by Eshdey Diphae is a South African born Radio DJ, TV presenter and entrepreneur. Eshdey went from being homeless to running a successful community radio station and is the founder of Black Entertainment Awards. Eshdey is living proof that your painful beginning can be a stepping stone to a future of success. She has been in the entertainment industry for more than a decade. Our surprise guest (who joins us on the line) is Thembi Mazibuko from Dorahs’ Ark Children’s home – a centre that provided Eshdey with shelter when she was homeless – today Eshdey assists at the centre as her way of giving back.
On this episode we are joined by Theodorah Mooketsi, born in Durban, South Africa and moved to Cape Town when she was only a few days old due to circumstances beyond her control . She was raised by her grandmother in the notorious Cape Flats. Theo studied Public Relations, however she couldn’t complete her Diploma due to finances, then she miraculously got a learnership to study Insurance Administration, this was a start of a bright and progressive career in the insurance industry. She was then employed by big corporations working her way up from being a contact centre sales agent, to admin clerk, to consultant, and spent the last 4 years of her corporate life in management. Theodora tells us about the sacrifices she had to make in pursuit of her purpose as she is now a successful inspirational speaker and astute businesswoman. Her husband, Joseph Mooketsi later joins us in studio and shares about what it takes to be the supporting force behind a strong purpose-driven woman.
On this episode we are joined by Mrs Africa & Mrs Africa Globe 2017, Kedidimetse Tswai. Kedidimetse was born in Mafikeng, in South Africa’s North-west province. She is the founder of I AM KEDIDIMETSE foundation, owner of KD’s Fabulous Couture Boutique, an Ambassador, Businesswoman and Mentor, Kedidimetse also works for SA’s Department of Water and Sanitation in the Communication division. She tells us about how she’s living out a life of purpose in the roles that she plays.
On this episode we are joined by veteran South African actress, Clementine Mosimane. She is popular for her starring role as Thandi Mazwai in Soul City, an SABC1 drama series that played in 1994 to 2003. She was also the star actress in the M-Net soap opera The Wild as Mama Rose Tladi, a pillar of the community and mother to all. Clementine has also starred as a guest in many TV series including The Lab, Intersexions, Clean Break, eKasi: Our Stories, Yizo Yizo, Ngempela, Rhythm City and others. She recently starred in a lead role in Poppie Nongena Film, a true life story based on a novel by Elsa Joubert. Growing up Clementine wanted to be a medical doctor but things took a turn when she landed a TV presenting role by chance.
On this episode we are joined Dr. Annie Claire Gallet, a medical doctor with masters in HIV/Aids management and ordained pastor. Dr Gallet is an activist and Humanitarian from the DRC. She is the founder of Female Leaders Africa Service Humanitarian (FLASH). She is a wife, a mother and a businesswoman. She tells us about how she balances it all and in which area her passion lies.
In this episode we are joined Pearl Ngobeni, a qualified Economist and gospel singer, Pearl Ngobeni. During Her varsity years, she tried entering singing competitions such as, the Coca Cola pop stars, which she made it to the second round, however at the time she had to choose between pursuing school and music, in which she chose to further Her Studies. School had to come first as her parents were also looking forward to her graduation Day. In 2008 Pearl obtained her Bcom Degree in Economics from South Africa’s University of Limpopo. Pearl says she lives her purpose through her music
In this episode we are joined by reigning Miss South Africa Sasha-Lee Olivier. Sasha-Lee represented South Africa at Miss World 2019. Sasha-Lee, who was Miss South Africa 2019 runner's up was announced as the new Miss South Africa, taking over Miss SA duties from the title holder, Zozibini Tunzi who was crowned Miss Universe in December. Sasha says she is thrilled to wear the Miss South Africa crown. She says, “Taking over the Miss South Africa title means that I am able to continue working to help women who, like me, have been sexually abused. It will be a top priority for me during my time as Miss South Africa. Sasha-Lee has turned her painful past of sexual assault into a message of hope for victims of sexual assault through her #Itsnotyourfault campaign – something that she says is her life purpose.
In this episode we are joined by Dorothy Seekoei, a native of Kenya. Growing up Dorothy wanted to be a medical doctor but realised in high school that she wasn’t gifted in the area of sciences. It was during this time that she realised she had a gift of public speaking. She is now a lecturer at Johannesburg Bible College and is the co-founder of a network that trains women in business across Africa – something that she says she’s passionate about and is her calling. Our surprise guest, Palesa Mokhethi, Dorothy’s colleague at JBC joins us on the line.
In this episode we are joined by Keabetswe Ncube born and raised in Johannesburg, SA. Kea is a DJ, radio and television presenter. Before she ventured into radio she did a catering and hospitality course for three years. She worked in the hospitality industry for some time before she realised that her passion lied in radio. She tells us how she made the switch from hospitality to media. Later we are joined on the line by Kea’s friend and former colleague – Miss Q – as our surprise guest.
In this episode we are joined by Onkarabile Mokoto from North West, SA. Onkarabile wanted to be a musician growing up but gave that up when he realised he couldn’t sing. He went to Johannesburg to study teaching at Wits University but dropped out due to lack of finances. He took up a job as a security guard and worked at it for six years to save up in order to pursue his dream of becoming a motivational speaker. Today he owns a speaking academy, is an award-winning author and actor. He tells us about the sacrifices he made to live a life of purpose.
In this episode we are joined by Joseph Ukor who hails from the southern part of Nigeria, now living in Johannesburg, SA. Joseph obtained a diploma in hotel catering and management and went on to work in the hospitality industry, where he did quite well. He later switched to theology studies in his quest to pursue his purpose and obtained a diploma from Global African school of missions in Nigeria before moving to South Africa to further his studies in theology. He joins us to talk about the difficult yet fulfilling journey he had to take to pursue his purpose. On the line we are joined by a surprise guest – a person from the Johannesburg college Joe went to – she shares how his resilient spirit in the midst of trials encouraged everyone at the college.
In this episode we are joined by Nigerian musician Uche Agu who was born in Onitsha, in Ambra State of Nigeria. Uche grew up in a musical family and at an early age would take to the stage and demonstrate his talent. He later planned to study law at the University of Port Harcourt as he hoped to pursue a legal career, but he never got to realise this as his love for music and his calling to pursue it took over. He received his big break when he came to South Africa and after trying for a while was introduced to one of Africa’s biggest gospel choirs – Joyous Celebration where he became popular after he led the song My God is goodooo. He tells us how his life changed from pursuing a law degree to becoming a music sensation.
In this episode are joined by Samuel Lwambwa who was born the Democratic Republic of Congo in Lubumbashi. After a few years of living there, he and his family moved to South Africa in the early 90s. Samuel studied Bachelor of Arts in Corporate communications at the University of Johannesburg. Ever since he was in school, he always thought of means to be self-sustaining and generate income so as to not be reliant on others. That’s where his business skills were groomed. To make some cash, he worked as a newspaper delivery boy, worked at the video rental store, as well as at a retailer in a shopping mall. Samuel is a model, a drummer, a speaker and the list goes on. He’s here to tell us how he does it all and in what area his purpose lies. His sister Vicky joins us on the line as a surprise guest – sharing how Samuel walked in pursuit of his purpose from a young age.
In this episode we are joined in studio by Mpho Botha a 19 year old pageant director born and bred in Welkom in the Free State province of South Africa. Mpho was crowned Mr Teen World in 2016 at the age of 16. He got into pageantry to overcome a low self-esteem which he suffered from being bullied. Mpho made history by being the youngest South African to be awarded a licence to host the first ever Miss United Nations South Africa and went on to produce a world winner in the recently crowned Miss Teen United Nations 2019 in India. He tells us about how his passion found him.
In this episode in studio we are joined by Harold Moyo, a native of Zimbabwe. Harold studied Media and Communications in Cape Town after leaving Zimbabwe upon completing his matric. He later came to Johannesburg, South Africa with the hope of getting employment. While in Johannesburg he decided to pursue theology studies. After he completed his studies he decided to no longer suppress his love for the arts as he believed that this was tied to is purpose and founded Fresh Impressions which is a talent and events management company as well as a record label. Through Fresh Impressions Harold has reached thousands of young African artists whom he helps in their craft. Our surprise guest, Lily Million, who is one of the artists Harold helped, joins us on the line.
In this episode in studio we are joined by Mr Mteto Nyati who is the Group Chief Executive and Executive Director of information and communications technology company Altron, based in Johannesburg South Africa. He served as CEO at IBM SA, Microsoft SA and at MTN, where he was responsible for returning the business to growth by overhauling employee engagement and transforming customer experience. He shares his story of how he never allowed what appeared as a limitation – being the only Black engineer at Afrox – to dictate his future and instead stuck to his passion. Nyati has recently released a book titled Betting on a Darkie – where he outlines his rise and immense contribution to corporate South Africa and how he beat the odds to be a successful leader at the height of apartheid.
In this episode we are joined in studio by Stacey Fru who is a 12-year old philanthropist through The Stacey Fru Foundation, an Activist in Literacy, Child Abduction, Child Trafficking and Role-Modelling and an International Multiple Award-Winning Bestselling Author of Chapter Books. This young feisty girl is living a life of purpose, driven by her passion to uplift the African Child. She is also the founder of African Children of the Year Awards. She tells us about how she knew from a very young age what her purpose is.

In this episode we are joined in studio by Fambisai Clarton Mangadza, a native of Zimbabwe, who is a Philosophy Tutor at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Fambisai worked as a teacher in Mashonaland West in his country after graduating from the University of Zimbabwe having obtained his BA Honours in Philosophy. He resigned in 2008 and moved to South Africa in pursuit of a better life and his dreams. Things were not so rosy in Johannesburg, where Fambisai resided as he found himself doing odd jobs working as a gardener, driver and shop assistant. He never gave up on his dream to pursue philosophy and is now a PhD candidate at the University of Pretoria. Fellow lecturer Keo Mbebe joins us on the line from PTA as a surprise guest.
In this episode we are joined by Penny Koetle, a qualified attorney from South Africa. Penny is a senior specialist in the information privacy office at MTN. She is also the Managing Director at Bokamoso legal and regulatory consulting. Penny is a lawyer that wears many hats – she is a transformation Life Coach and is in the business of spreading love as the founder of Agape Love Movement – something that she says she was born to do. Penny is a spiritual and emotional healer as well as a transformation speaker. She’s here to tell us how being an attorney, a life coach and a love doctor come together as she lives her life of purpose. In this episode we are joined by Tshanda Mbuyi, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who is a Built Environment Professional, holder of a Bachelor of Technology in Architecture and a Master Degree in Development Planning. Growing up in DRC, Tshanda dreamt of bringing about positive change in her country by helping improve infrastructure as she saw its poor conditions. She is currently practicing in an Architecture Firm in Johannesburg, South Africa. Tshanda has over a decade of experience, contributing to the successful conception and implementation of various construction projects for private and public clients. She is passionate about African cities, their spatial planning, drives their growth and development and most importantly, ,how they support or hinder their inhabitants' livelihoods. She hopes to make a meaningful contribution to the development of her continent, Africa and she tells us how a dream that began all those many years ago is being realised – “if you can dream it, you can actualise it”. Our surprise guest is her brother, Yves Mbuyi, who joins us on the line from DRC.
In this episode we are joined by Vukani Khoza, a South African celebrity choreographer who didn’t allow poverty and painful upbringing stop him from pursuing his passion – he stopped at nothing. Armed with only Grade 11, Vukani headed to Johannesburg in search of a big break in choreography after dancing in the streets of Durban for money to support his family. He later discovered SA’s kwaito star Msawawa and went on to dance with well know musicians such as Zola 7 and branched out into music. Vukani uses dance to keep young people off the streets through his dance academy – African Child Productions. Later on the show we are joined by his father on the line from Kwazulu-Natal province – as our surprise guest.

In this episode, in celebration of women’s month in South Africa, we are looking at the roles of women leaders in the continent – we’re looking at the impact women leaders have made in Africa in the areas of governance and business. We talk about the strides women have made in government, with The Registar of Deeds in Johannesburg in the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, Ms Makaziwe Ntuli, to help us understand how far African women have come in the area of business, we have Victorine Mbong Shu, a Cameroonian living in Johannesburg, South Africa.. She’s the publisher, Editor, & CEO of Profounder Intelligence Management Services & Owner of Profound Conference Centre to name a few. Also looking at the topic of women in business is Laetitia Vambili, a young entrepreneur who together with her husband Dany, own natural hair brand of products and a salon called Love ur locs. She was born in the DRC and came to South Africa with her parents at the tender age of 6, running away from the Congo war.

In this 5th episode of Life by Design, Amanda Matshaka talks to Mziwanele Mhlanti, a qualified Internal Auditor from KZN, South Africa. Mziwanele left his profession to pursue his passion of coaching Wits University students in leadership and life skills. He forsook the comfort that came with his job to invest in the future of the young generation. Mzi shares the challenges as well as fulfilment that comes with such a decision. In the programme, one of Mzi’s students joins in on the line as a surprise guest much to Mzi’s delight. She talks about the impact the leadership programme she’s part of has made in her life and that of others.
In this 4th episode of Life by Design, Amanda Matshaka talks a 19-year-old Global Speaker from South Africa, Tshegofatso August Modiga-Powers – AKA Ms President. She is a young globe trotter making unprecedented moves, sitting amongst policy makers, giving implementable solutions that apply to different sectors of the world’s political economy. She aspires to be the President of the United Nations, African Union and the Republic of South Africa. She is working towards accumulating her undergraduate degree in Global Political Economy and Diplomacy in the United States of America on a Full Scholarship. Tshegofatso realised her passion at age 15 – she is someone who discovered her purpose early in life and mapped her life around achieving her goals with the help of her single mother and her mentor. In the programme, Tshegofatso’s mentor, businesswoman and influencer, Phuthi Mahanyele-Dabengwa (Naspers CEO) joins us on the line as a surprise guest much to Ms President’s delight.
In this 3rd episode of Life by Design, Amanda Matshaka talks to celebrated Kenyan musician, Evelyn Wanjiru who was born and raised in Nakuru, Kenya. Evelyn discovered her purpose to heal and comfort people through music at a young age and during a time that was very difficult for her. As her music was healing many she realized that it was healing her and giving her strength as well to overcome her challenges. Evelyn was catapulted into a professional music career by someone (who later became her husband) who believed in her and invested resources and time in her. Today Evelyn is a household name not only in Kenya but in the whole continent and globally. He message to the listeners is that anyone can pursue their passion with determination, courage and finding people who are willing to help them succeed in life. In the programme, Agunda (husband) later joins in the studio conversation, sharing how he put his faith in Evelyn’s talent and later reaped the reward of seeing her become a star.
