Sheri begins her story today in 7th grade, the year she first joined Weight Watchers. As a young girl Sheri struggled with her body image and she always felt "big" compared to her siblings and friends. She noticed her parents commented on what she ate and on her size too. She often struggled feeling like she fit in, even with her own family.
She found herself pregnant at 18 and was hoping that might help her find the purpose and family she had longed for. To make ends meet, she was working long hours. Life felt hard and in many ways she felt stuck. After a negative comment from her mom, she decided to go back to school and pursue a career in healthcare. It was one of the best decisions of her life.
Fast forward to today and Sheri shares how intermittent fasting not only helped her lose weight, but it gave her the gift of clearing the noise and provided room for healing she desperately needed. She no longer needed to count calories or macros or measure her food, she could fast. Fasting also gave her so much time to pursue new dreams and adventures. She is the co-host of Life Lessons Podcast with Gin Stephens.
Other topics: Fasting and Weight Gain: Can it happen and if so what do I do? How to find peace with hunger How to make fasting a natural habit How to live authentically and deal with criticism

Sheri Bio:
I’m Midwest girl living in a southern world. I’m a wife, mom, and friend. I have worked in healthcare for over 27 years and I consider myself one of the lucky ones who really loves her job. But, I also have passions that extend beyond my career.
My entire adult life, I have had a true desire to help and connect with others. I have worked and volunteered for numerous organizations outside of the hospital. Over the last several years I have spent countless hours working with Intermittent Fasters, to help them reclaim their health and vitality. Once upon a time, my entire life was work, advanced education, and my family. My life was out of balance, and I really had to look at what I needed to do to live a more balanced life. I have spent the last several years trying to help others do the same and that’s where Life Lessons Podcast was born. One of the things I love about helping others is that in my quest to help, I also continue to learn so much about myself, our bodies, and our mental and physical health.
My friends call me the "gadget girl," as I love tools and products that can be used to help people live their best and healthiest lives.

Margret lives in Ireland, home to one of the world’s longest Covid lockdowns. She is a mom of three kids, ages four years and younger. In the midst of masks, social distancing and dramatic schedule changes, Margret knew she must prioritize her health.
Motherhood had hit her hard and she found herself “comfort eating.” Happy? Eat. Sad? Eat. At 300 pounds, exercise was a struggle. But Margret learned about intermittent fasting and started with an 18:6* protocol.
In less than a year of “I.F.,” Margret lost 120 pounds. A confessed “foodie,” Margret loves to cook and discover new recipes. On her new regimen, she can cook and eat foods she loves, while still losing weight.
More good news: Because of her improved health, Margret’s allergies and asthma have also healed. She wants to share her practical lifestyle and positive results with the world, in hopes those now without answers—as she once was—can truly realize results. Margret’s message: if I can do it, you can too.
This is a great episode for someone who is new to I.F. and just starting their journey, or those hoping to revisit/revise their I.F. path. No matter what your health status, you be inspired and encouraged by Margret’s story.
Margret also provides tips on:
How did she start intermittent fasting? What food(s) does Margret find are best for opening her I.F. window? As a busy mom, how does she incorporate movement in her day? What does her typical dinner look like? Does she drink alcohol, and if so, what?

Kristen Barrett wanted to start a family, but couldn’t get pregnant. Medical professionals were not finding the cause of her infertility. She did her own research and in pushing for more tests, discovered she had PCOS. (Polycystic ovary syndrome, or “PCOS,” is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age.)
Kristen was prescribed Metformin to treat her PCOS. She was troubled by the seemingly lifelong duration of the insulin-regulating Metformin treatment plan. Kristen was dissatisfied with the lack of answers, and felt her health deserved better.
So, she went on a search to find alternative solutions. Kristen is no longer on Metformin and is the healthiest of her life. During her Functional Nutrition training, Kristen began to have her eyes opened on all the options not typically presented by traditional medicine. Today she shares her practical and possible wisdom as it applies to each one of us, no matter what our health challenges.

In 2018, Daniel Deal was on a vacation with his family. Daniel was ready for a fun roller coaster ride, but was shocked to find he was too big for the seat. That embarrassing moment was a turning point; it was time to take back his health.
Daniel typically avoided doctors but knew his health was at its lowest point. He began investigating why diets don’t work. He searched online using that exact phrase, “Why diets don’t work.”
Through his research, he discovered the work of Dr. Jason Fung and the advantages of fasting. The concept and lifestyle clicked.
Fast forward and Daniel has lost over 160 pounds. An enthusiastic fasting follower, he loves sharing his passion for IF with others. One place you can find Daniel is in our Facebook group called MOTIVATE (linked below). As Daniel says, “IF is not always easy, but it’s simple.”
Since losing weight, Daniel has started running and being more active.

What is Data Driven Fasting? And what is the Data Driven Fasting Challenge? The creator of “DDF,” Marty Kendall, is here to share all you need to know. I was also fortunate to participate in the April 2021 DDF Challenge. From my time with Marty and my time in the challenge, I gleaned some amazing takeaways that could be effective tools for all of us. On part one I interview Marty on DDF and on part two I share my top takeaways from my personal DDF challenge experience.
Marty explains how intermittent fasting has helped many people get healthier without the hassle of tracking food. But, sadly, for some, fasting doesn’t always provide the benefits they had hoped for long term.
While fasting has many benefits, when we get REALLY hungry, some of us gravitate to energy-dense nutrient-poor foods that quickly undo all our discipline.
Marty’s fascinating approach to achieve long term success is to find the minimum effective dose of fasting that provides long term results without pushing your body so hard that it rebels—leaving you trapped in an endless restrict-binge cycle.
Today Marty will describe how his DDF challenge can be a life-changing tool for you.

We recently returned from a week-long family trip. In this podcast, I share a few new strategies I learned while traveling with my crazy family of eight.
Hopefully my learning curve will help you shape and experience a great family trip. A hint preview: When planning, set realistic expectations for the trip and all travelers.
Travel tips include how to pack less, eat healthier and save money too.
I discuss a few of the most-asked topics and questions:
What does my exercise look like on vacation?
How do I fast when I'm on vacation?
Why it’s important to simplify, ask for help—and rest.
Why relaxing can lead to unexpected results?
Will going on vacation jeopardize my positive health lifestyle and results?

Today I interview Emily Kearney, mom of two, attorney and the host of the Mothergood podcast, about her postpartum journey. We discuss her post-birth pelvic floor struggles, in the hopes her experiences might help other moms.
We encourage you to advocate for yourself and speak up when you are concerned. We remind you that not questioning and advocating about your health can lead to even more serious consequences.
Additionally, I share insights and encouragement for any new mom. So often I’ve found the following questions go unanswered…
Is it normal to: • Not lose weight when breastfeeding? • Be frightened of sex after having a baby? • Suffer from postpartum depression? • Bleed and leak? • Have an increased appetite? • Find your first birth to be the most difficult?
Today’s episode should help any new mom feel empowered and encouraged on her postpartum journey.

Billy and his wife, Rachel, yearned to have a child. Finally, after 12 years, they were blessed with the adoption of their daughter, Seeley.
Also at this time and after years of not prioritizing his health, Billy’s health was not in a good place. Their beloved daughter had also been diagnosed with autism and fetal alcohol syndrome. Billy’s response to these family and life challenges was slow but consistent weight gain. Playing with his daughter was becoming more and more difficult.
After meeting a friend’s adult autistic daughter, Billy realized that Seeley was going to need him throughout her adulthood as well. He knew he needed to make a change and started his journey July 7, 2020. To date, has lost over 100 pounds. (So, in less than a year, he shed nearly one-third of his body weight.)
Billy is no longer short of breath and now has energy to keep up with Seeley’s energy and unique needs. And, he adds “I’ve been more able to be the husband my wife deserves too.”
Billy’s inspiring journey reminds us that prioritizing our health is not selfish. It allows us to give back—to our loved ones and to our world.

2020 was a challenging year for many, including Britt Fisk, who faced unexpected and daunting life changes.
Britt and her husband Jeremy are cattle ranchers in New Mexico. With the help of their eight kids, her sister and brother in-law, they run a family business called “Bell Road Beef.” Not only do they raise cattle, but they also manage the logistics of shipping their beef products nationwide. (Britt and her sister dreamed up this business so they could work together and pool their unique talents—a lifelong dream for both.)
In 2020, the Fisk’s youngest child, Agnes, was born. Soon their baby daughter’s serious health issues became evident. Britt bravely walks us through what the first year looked like for dear Agnes—and her family. She shares about the many difficulties as well as the miracles and moments of hope.
In addition to Agnes’s health challenges, Britt faced her own shocking news…news that would prevent her from being with Agnes during some of the baby’s most fragile times. But Britt’s journey is one of grace, strength and faith. Given these hard circumstances, many would have given up or become bitter. Britt, remarkably, reflects the opposite.
Britt’s hope is that through these struggles she learns, grows, and can help others by telling her story. Letting go is key, though contrary to her caretaking nature. Her theme is clear: We cannot always control what happens to us in life, but we can control our response, choices and attitude.
Sometimes when life is tough, it’s easy to ask: What’s the purpose in this? Why is this happening to me/us? Britt admits she doesn’t know all the “whys,” but bolstered by her faith and support of family and friends, she is learning you can endure, grow stronger and yes, even thrive.
Get out your Kleenex. Your heart will be touched by Britt, Agnes and the Fisk family of Bell Road Beef.

On today’s episode we are talking about alcohol with scientist Gillian Tietz, host of the Sober Powered Podcast. We discuss the benefits of taking breaks from alcohol and how drinking less can dramatically improve our health. Gillian dives into the science of why we think alcohol improves our anxiety and sleep—which is really not the case. In her own life, she realized she was unable to have a healthy relationship with alcohol and needed to give it up all together. Gillian knows this isn’t the required path for everyone, but that it works for her. After giving up alcohol, she lost 22 pounds and improved her sleep, skin and anxiety. But most important, Gillian discovered that an alcohol-free life helped her like herself again and also find a peace that had eluded her before. Her bold decision to stop drinking has truly changed her life for the better. No matter what your relationship is with alcohol, you will walk away from this discussion with some powerful science and tips applicable to your unique health journey.
The point of this episode is not to tell everyone to stop drinking…Gillian shares some valuable insights on the benefits of simply taking breaks from or reducing alcohol. She also explains how she realized she had to completely stop drinking. I’m honored to welcome Gillian, who candidly and wisely takes us on her health journey. We will all be the better for it.

Struggling with a devastating breakup and dissatisfaction with her career, Carin was ready to make a change. Although successful as a Creative Director, she felt called to something very different—and unusual.

Marty Kendall joins us from Brisbane, Australia. His wife is a T1 diabetic and he has a family and personal history of obesity. These challenges inspired his passion for nutrition, as he wanted to improve both his wife’s health journey, and his own. Now Marty is dedicated to helping others too. An engineer by day, he started diving into nutrient data and has received world-wide attention from physicians and nutrition experts.
Marty, once a dedicated Keto and Paleo follower, no longer limits himself to just one eating lifestyle. Instead, he focuses on the highest nutrient, most health-productive foods. He emphasizes that once your blood sugars are stabilized, then, depending on your goals, you can work on the other elements such as protein, fat and nutrients. He also emphasizes how combining this high-nutrient approach with intermittent fasting can dramatically improve results.
We wrap up by discussing some of the highest and lowest nutrient foods, plus his practical and healthful eating strategies for his family of four—and yours.
Marty leads Facebook groups and has authored many cookbooks, all created to maximize your health journey.

Dr. Jaime was a collegiate athlete and never really had to be concerned about what she ate. Along came medical school, a growing family and a more sedentary life, and she found herself with pre-diabetes, thyroid issues and PCOS. She felt like a hypocrite as a nutrition major and a physician.
In a span of just five short years, Dr. Jaime is barely recognizable. She has transformed her body composition and found her purpose and passion. She has never felt or looked better, plus has healed all of her prior conditions.
She shares specific details about her daily routine, diet, exercise and lifestyle. Dr. Jaime provides some great tips to those who might be struggling with similar health issues. She realized she had to fill her cup first before she could truly serve others.

After graduating from Stanford, Bridget went on to attend medical school. Despite her many academic successes, something just wasn’t right about her graduate school experience. Family, friends and college associates didn’t understand her conflict, and she really hit a low point in her life.
There began Bridget’s brave journey back to find herself—her most creative, brave and bold self. Though she had always excelled in the sciences, Bridget was drawn to the creative arts and improvisational theater. She embraced the concept and quote of Nelson Mendela, “You only win or you learn.”
Improv led to writing and producing successful one-woman comedy shows. Bridget is now a sought-after performer and creativity teacher, often working with tech companies.
She reminds us the more we live boldly, the better we feel, the better we sleep and the better our health. Today’s episode will help you realize that in finding your most authentic self, you will also find purpose, well-being and joy.
Come learn from Bridget and have fun along the way.
Bridget's Bio:
Bridget Quigg is a 15-year tech veteran and founder of the “You’re a Genius” workshop series. After a successful career as a marketing director at some of Seattle’s hottest startups, Bridget decided to take her long history in comedy and teach corporate teams about creativity, collaboration and the power of having fun together. She’s written and toured in five one-woman comedy shows, including her most recent “Techlandia,” which was featured in Geekwire, the San Francisco Chronicle and on NPR. Consistently ranked as a favorite presenter at Microsoft events, Bridget likes to keep her sessions uplifting and fast-paced so that everyone goes home energized, with a fresh perspective and ideas for their team.
