On May 5th, 1991, people took to the streets of Washington D.C.’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood to protest the police shooting of Daniel Gomez, a young man from El Salvador. Through testimony, song, poetry, and street theatre, La Manplesa weaves together the collective memory of one of D.C.’s first barrios and dives into the roots of the ‘91 rebellion. As people across the world take to the streets to demand an end to police brutality, the film honors the largely untold stories that have come before us and explore how artists prompt us to remember what we still have to fight for.

Episode Description:

Based on the definition, Imposter syndrome is loosely defined as doubting your abilities and feeling like a fraud. It disproportionately affects high-achieving people, who find it difficult to accept their accomplishments. Many questions whether they're deserving of accolades. However, Imposter syndrome affects women, especially women of color, harder; because we tend to self-doubt when we don't see ourselves represented in those succeeding positions or careers. In this episode, we talk with a sister duo about different career choices and when and why we experienced imposter syndrome.

Episode Description:

AMA Y NO OLVIDA – Museum of Memory against Impunity” was built with the purpose of contributing to dignify the victims of state violence in Nicaragua as of April 2018, and to honor their memory. The museum disputes the official narrative that criminalizes citizens who participated in civic protests and opposes the climate of impunity fostered by the Nicaraguan government. In the museum, there are portraits of the victims, as well as information and accounts of the events, photos, audiovisual materials, and various documents that allow us to dimension the context of social protest.

Episode Description:

Lineage of Rain traces histories of Salvadoran migration and the US-sponsored civil war to reimagine trauma as a site for transformation and healing. With a scholar’s caliber, Pineda archives family memory, crafting a collection that centers intergenerational narratives through poems filled with a yearning to crystallize a new world—one unmarked by patriarchal violence. At their heart, many of these poems are an homage to women: love letters to mothers, sisters, and daughters.
