With a new mix on www.podomatic.com/soulshack each month , DJ-J-ME started "The Soul Shack" in November 2005 on Soulstream Networks as a way to share with the world his take on 'good' music...made with soul. From soulful & classic house to nu disco & chillwave to neo-soul & nu-jazz to rn'b to old school, funk and 'real' hip hop, it's all fair game on "The Soul Shack". Each month, depending on Jamie's mood you may hear any or all of the above music - sometimes a mixed bag of 'all things soulful', sometimes just a particular theme or genre...but always soulful! With Soul Shack parties having occurred in Toronto, New York, Miami & LA, the brand (and DJ-J-ME) continues to grow and gain new fans. Check this podcast for the latest Soul Shack mixes. (Archived Soul Shack mixes are available at www.mixcloud.com/soulshack) About DJ-J-ME: In demand, Toronto based dj who has played everything from 2,000 person Fortune 500 corporate events to Toronto rooftop hotspots like Kost & Lavelle to a decade of TIFF events in Yorkville for various celebrities, as well as gigs in NYC, LA, Chicago & Miami (where he enjoyed a monthly winter residency before Covid hit). His music style can be described as eclectic, sophisticated and soulful, using remixes, edits and acapellas to put a fresh twist on even the most well known songs, seamlessly mixing the familiar with relatively unknown lounge grooves and forgotten gems to provide a unique and engaging soundtrack. I'm bringing back the Cottage Mix Series for 2023! July (it was posted earlier on Mixcloud) is the Friday Night Edition, recorded live at a "Retro Attic" party, where all of the song selections had to be at least 10 years old, so nothing but throwbacks! Recording it live at a gig like this I had to keep it pretty mainstream, so no obscure gems here, but definitely some guilty pleasures lol! (Next up will be a new Saturday Afternoon edition which is already available on Mixcloud, and then there will be a Saturday Night Edition, a Sunday Morning Edition and a new Summer Home in Mykonos Edition too!)
Hope you enjoy! (and if you do, please share the mix with your friends)

I've been sitting on this mix for a while! Back in November I finally made it back out west and did another poolside rooftop set at the Broken Shaker LA. It felt so good to be back there (I hadn't been since Jan 2020). I love when I get the freedom to play like this and not have to focus on creating "energy", and instead just create a "vibe". Sadly Broken Shaker was already booked up through August, so I won't be back on the rooftop this July, but if you know of any other dj opportunities at the end of July in LA, hit me up!
Hope you enjoy! (and if you do, please share the mix with your friends)

So back in the winter when places finally started opening up again, I recorded a 2022 Bar Promo mix, thinking I'd use it to try and get some gigs...and then got so busy that I never gave it to any venues! It's a great mix, so I figured I should use it as a Soul Shack mix before the year ends! Here's the full live recording with the "first half of the night" being a mix of funk, soul, retro, hip hop, rn'b, indie alternative, lots of blends and reworks...a real mixed bag, and the 2nd half being more of a "party" mix of house, amapiano, throwbacks, hip hop, lots of blends and reworks too. Hope you enjoy!

So I brought back the "Cottage Mix Series" this summer, but in a very different vibe! Last year I wanted to record a promo mix for a new venue opening called Toronto Beach Club, what my vision was for the soundtrack for their patio, warm feel good house with some Mediterranean vibes, sunny remixes of familiar songs...but never got a chance to record it. This summer I finally got a chance to record it and decided to call it Summer Home In Mykonos. Here it is, I hope you enjoy! (and if you do, please share the mix and leave me a comment!)

I think this is going to be my last Birthday Livestream, but I guess we'll find out next April. I had a visual theme for this one, the first half of the stream I had Pretty In Pink playing behind me and played all new wave CFNY retro and classic house, and for the second half I had the movie Juice playing behind me and played all late 80's / early 90's hip hop & rn'b throwbacks... very self indulgent! So if you missed the actual livestream because you were watching that painful Raptor's loss, here's your way to enjoy it on your own schedule (without having to hear me talk over the music lol!) Hope you enjoy!

So April 2020 at the start of Covid I got nostalgic and recorded a 90's (isolating in the) house mix. A year later Ontario was going into yet another 4 week lockdown and I got nostalgic again, posting a hip hop from my twenties mix. This year I figured I'd keep with this new tradition of nostalgia for April and am posting a Throwback rn'b mix! This mix is more mainstream than my usual more "neo soul" rn'b vibes, inspired heavily by a wedding I had recently dj'd, where the grooms wanted throwback rn'b during dinner. Hope you enjoy this timeless mix!

Here is my annual lounge music recap from the past year. (This year was a little different and I already did the funkier hip hop flips/blends/re-edits recap in February) As usual, lots of range here in tempo and style, some new stuff, some reworks of old (and one actual "old" song that I discovered via Skratch Bastid last year and just had to include), but all (non house) stuff that I really liked in 2021. So fix yourself a drink, sit back and enjoy the vibes (or lets be real, throw it on in the background while working from home or doing your household chores lol!)

February is usually my lounge music recap of the previous year, which tends to be smoother rn'b/soul/nudisco/retro re-edit vibes that I would play at lounge gigs (going back to my days @ dBar). That's still coming in March, but this year I felt I needed to create a new recap, this 1 being all the amazing flips/blends/reworks/re-edits & general funkiness from Bandcamp/Soundcloud/Patreon etc. There's still a few official releases in here, but for the most part it's creative new visions of classic hip hop vibes, original sample sources or 90's hip hop influenced lo-fi...even a few jungle & afro-latin reworks! This is what the Soul Shack is all about & you definitely won't find most of it on Spotify so download, share & enjoy!

It's January (well it was when I posted this on Mixcloud), and that means looking back with my #housemusic recap from the past year. A journey through various styles of house and the tracks that caught my attention in 2021 including songs & remixes from #moodymann #ampfiddler #jimpster #osunlade #natashadiggs #yuksek #artoftones #&me #rampa #adamport #atjazz #shimza #LLV #miguelmigs #Channeltres #purplediscomachine #rufusdusol and more (as well as my own #Wizkid retouch) Say it with me #houseisafeeling !

He's done with the Cottage Mix Series...finally!!! Yup, gotta get back to the Soul Shack vibes and celebrate 16 Years of the podcast! 192 episodes! Crazy! If this were pre-Covid, I'd be recording this mix down in Miami under palm trees...but it's (it was) 2021, and we're now in the 4th wave of the pandemic, so still no traveling for me. Thankful though that at least I got to record this mix live this year instead of on Twitch like last year. This was recorded at a little spot in Toronto called Function Bar, where they let me get funky with it! Hope you enjoy!

It's finally recorded! Old people my age you're gonna LOVE this mix! Definitely if you're a fan of laid back chill vibes to ease into the weekend with a coffee (or with me posting this on Podomatic in January, for hibernating through the cold & snow of winter). This is the last (and possibly best) installment of the Cottage Mix Series "Sunday Morning". I broke it into 3 parts on Mixcloud, but I'm trying to catch up here, so it's all one long 6+ hour mix!
Soul Shack fans should still enjoy (it's still based on my personal taste in music) but this one has a much wider audience, so please, if you appreciate this mix, share the link! Share it with coworkers, family and facebook friends! Thanks!

This is my Christmas gift to you. (I'll jump back to where I was in the uploading of mixes and post the Sunday Morning Cottage Mix and the 16 Year Anniversary Mix in January & February, but this one needed to get posted before Christmas!)
After recording last year's Christmas Cocktails and trying to make it timeless I thought I didn't need to make another one this year... but then decided why not make a Soul Shack Christmas! A proper Soul Shack mix with Soul Shack music, but mixed with Christmas music too! Last year I added my personal taste to the more mainstream Christmas Cocktails format but this year I've taken it a step further and just went 100% Soul Shack (with some mainstream acapellas and remixes to make it a little more accessible).
I truly hope this mix brings a little extra joy to you and your loved ones and I hope you all stay healthy and safe this holiday season and into the new year!

Instead of my usual Soul Shack Summer Soundtrack, I'm continuing with the 2021 Cottage Mix Series, this time the Friday Night Edition (the party vibes!).
Soul Shack fans should still enjoy (it was my first live gig in 499 days!). It's similar to Better Days vibes which is why I'm posting it as the August mix and not a special non-soul shack mix, but this one definitely has more mainstream appeal, so please, if you appreciate the mix, share the link (and feel free to let me know on Instagram too dj_j_me)
People my age you're gonna LOVE this mix! Definitely if you're a fan of #depechemode #neworder #thecure (if you grew up in the Toronto area and listened to CFNY) Instead of my usual Soul Shack Summer Soundtrack, this year I'm doing a Cottage Mix Series, with the first installment being the Saturday afternoon vibes.
Soul Shack fans should still enjoy (it's still based on my personal taste in music) which is why I'm posting it as the July mix and not as a special non-soul shack mix, but this one has a much wider audience, so please, if you appreciate this mix, share the link! Share it will all of your old high school facebook friends! Thanks!

I broke this livestream recording into 2 parts on Mixcloud (where you can only stream, but I am up to date there) but as I'm trying to catch up here on Podomatic (where if I miss my small window to upload a new mix, I max out my bandwidth for the month and can't upload anything new) I'm just uploading the whole mix as one, so this is May & June.
With Canada still under a stay at home order back in April, I decided to do a birthday livestream again this year, the first on my new Twitch page (twitch.tv/dj_j_me) It was mostly new (to me) music I had added to my library to that point. So if you missed the actual livestream, here's your way to enjoy it on your own schedule (without having to hear me talk over the music lol!)
And if anyone liked the Pretty In Pink Soul Shack tee I was wearing in the livestream, they are for sale ;-)

So last April I got nostalgic and recorded a 90's (isolating in the) house mix. A year later Ontario is going into our latest 4 week lockdown and I'm getting nostalgic again, but this time for the hip hop from my twenties. There will be a second "street" edition, but part one here is (for lack of a better word) more of the "backpack" stuff. Still boom bap, but not the street, club or radio stuff... this is the jazz sampling more underground stuff. I had to put #Dilla on the artwork because his productions are all over this mix! Hope you enjoy!

Pushed back a month this year, but here is my annual lounge music recap from the past year. (it almost works better with the sunshine and spring being just around the corner!) As usual, lots of range here in tempo and style, some new stuff, some reworks of old (as well as a bunch of my own retouches), but all (non house) stuff that I really liked in 2020. I recorded it at home this year (thanks pandemic) so there's even a little TicToc inspired twist at the end! So fix yourself a drink, sit back and enjoy the vibes (or lets be real, throw it on in the background while working from home or doing your household chores lol!)

It seems like a lifetime ago that I finally made it out to LA and did the first west coast edition of The Soul Shack! There should have already been a second LA Edition in the books by now, but Corona Virus sort of killed those travel plans (along with the last few months of my winter Miami residency :-( So until life gets back to normal and I can make it back out west, here's the recording from a cool & foggy evening on the rooftop of the Freehand Hotel LA (Broken Shaker) back on January 24th. This was my first time playing out west and it definitely influenced some of the music selection - let me know if you pick up on any of the west coast vibes ;-)

This is special. I was supposed to be djing a "grads of the 90's" reunion dance in May for my old high school, but it was obviously cancelled. I thought about recording a short 90's mix with a bit of everything...but that idea morphed into this 90's house mix. Putting this together was beyond nostalgic. I didn't realize the significance of this time period. In 1990 I was in gr 10, by 2000 I got married. In the decade between I started going to all ages clubs (NRG in Burlington) then turned 19 & started going to clubs in Toronto (like Whiskey Saigon, Club Max & Oz), I started djing & record collecting & then by the end of the decade I went from the more "club" house making up most of this mix, to the more soulful stuff (& going to Roxy Blu). These 80 songs all are significant to me - I would love to know which ones are significant for you.
Also, I know I get a ton of downloads on Podomatic (to the point where I reach my bandwidth limit within days of resetting it, and can't upload a new mix until it resets again) but I have no idea who any of you are. I would really love it if you took a second to follow me on Instagram @ https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_me
Also, there's new Soul Shack merch if anyone's interested, hit me up jamiewichartz @ yahoo . ca
