This is a break from our Headlines News series. Buddy Bell used this message to celebrate and honor Mothers, but also to remember a young man, John Picken, who lost his life just three days before this message. John had an amazing transformation in his life and became a powerful influence for Christ in the lives of many. This touching and powerful message is rooted in the Beatitudes in Matthew 5, but was challenging and comforting to our church family in a time of great need. We continue to pray and mourn with the Picken family, yet we rejoice that John is at home with his Heavenly Father.
Our youth minister, Wes Kohring, leads us through a familiar story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people. What can we learn from this story? How can our lives be offered in such a way that God uses our lives to fill other people and be satisfied with Jesus alone?
We all have doubts. In part 11, we'll see how John the Baptist had doubts as well as Herod and what it meant for their faith and their lives.
Have you ever thought of Jesus being offensive? It's hard to believe, but many of Jesus teachings are offensive. Those teachings call us to make a change in our beliefs or behavior. This week we look at the end of Mark 2 and the start of chapter 3. Jesus is confronted by the Pharisees about the Sabbath. Jesus' response and teaching helps us put into perspective the difference between the teachings of the Pharisees and Jesus' teaching which is the truth of God's heart.
We have obvious needs. But Jesus looked deeper into the heart to see the spiritual needs that may not be so obvious. Through a skylight, a faith-filled group of friends and some challenging statements, we look at chapter 2 of Mark in this series.
