The constantly-turning wheel of fortune in the sports world is as unpredictable as it is irresistible. For generations, stars have risen and fallen. Khangelani and I continue where we left off by moving right into what the business has become, from digital scouting, to long term career-planning, to what it means to have a true agent on your side.
The world of sports is a multi-billion dollar industry with legions of followers & stakeholders, across countless sporting codes. In the final series of 2020, I chat with Khangelani "Chester" Mbekela about his fruitful, once-in-a-lifetime career and how he has shaped himself as a brand post-retirement. We bring the exploration about modern parenting, fatherhood and overall changes in the male lifestyle to a 2-part close with a reflection on our own personal contexts. My close friend, Lebo Peele, and I go into what the various concepts surrounding fatherhood have meant and mean to us, look at changes in society and also touch on the importance of mental care on a person's overall life journey.
The parenthood discussion gets taken even further to explore the ins & outs of just how a child (and eventual adult) can be affected by absence and abandonment on any level, and by either parent. The rising instances of co-parenting relationships gets to be picked apart with a look into the pitfalls and upsides of the dynamic. The hope for better dynamics remains... which is the overall wish that is expressed on this edition.
The idea & concept of fatherhood has changed faces from generation to generation. Whether it's good or bad fatherhood, opinions differ about the quality of certain approaches and perspectives. Some are present, some are absent... Some are even absent while present.
