I went to Atlanta for the first time in 20 years this past weekend for my university's Alumni Weekend. Now I can say with pride that I went to Oglethorpe University and that quite a few people in my graduating class stepped up and made change happen from where things were when we graduated. Those changes for the better have actually happened and the good stuff I saw in those days (like teaching critical thinking skills) still seems to be there.
This is a new building that wasn't there when I was a student. We had quite a few alumni events there and I must tell you, it's very nice.

After some unseasonably hot days in NYC, the cooling crisis I knew was inevitable has now begun and it's time to resolve it. I'd also been meaning to note how insincerity affects human interaction.

Decided to do this while transferring a large file to a new external hard drive. I touch on the Nashville trans shooter, parents trying to use money to control their kids and how you're not getting adults to do anything genuine by making commands, threats, pulling a gun on them or otherwise being a bully. Getting an adult to respond positively to commands works as well as trying to get a cat to do something; it's not going to happen.
This is a pic of my old cat Stormy, who I talk about near the end. I don't have those pics as close to me since seeing him and the things around him has been very painful but this is one time where he's sitting on something. Notice his facial expression of "yeah, what of it?!?!" My ex said if Stormy could talk, he'd sound like Samuel L. Jackson and use a lot of profanity. He also was the Sean Penn of cats when it came to having his pic taken but he didn't get so mad at me doing it.

There are groups that nobody cares about calling out discrimination against & whose discrimination is still getting a pass in society. I specifically address discrimination against people who can't lift heavy objects and natural redheads since both are told to "suck it up" and that they have no right to call out harms and policies that screw them over. I'd like to know why in the wave of eliminating words and phrases, nobody has said a word about "redheaded stepchild" or thinks it's okay to tell me "it's only hair" when science says otherwise about the existence of natural redheads. Words of caution and some insight are shared as well.
This pic is of an ad I saw in the early days of my post divorce life and really pissed me off since it was denigrating people who know how to cook and live in NYC (New Yorkers diss New Jersey constantly) + seemed to be cheering on lack of self-sufficiency since cooking is an important life skill. The guy I was dating at the time, Mr. Orgy, agreed with me and wasn't pleased with the ad either since he also had cooking skills. It wasn't around forever but I didn't hear about any major public outcries in response to it.

I'm starting on some self-improvement but couldn't help but reflect on the housing situation I had to deal with before I got my very nice apartment. One evening, at the peak of my frustration, I thought of a clever way to resolve this nonsense I'm sure anyone who's lived it + is law abiding would be on board with.

Recently, I go to go to a charity gala for the first time in my life. This reminded me of another way in which many professions (but I'm speaking of legal since that's my field) are not being inclusive: having annual formal parties for the organizations where ticket prices are obscene and unaffordable. I first encountered this in law school and it definitely gave me a very negative impression of what the legal field and my own law school thought of me or my relationship with my eventual husband (NOT a lawyer and definitely never made close to large law firm associate pay).
This is the dress I wore to that charity gala as well as my wedding and a masquerade ball (where this pic comes from). The scarf is very cool and I actually bought that dress off Amazon many years back. The file was big but an example of the dress is really most relevant here.

This is the combination of 2 different ideas I had on the topic (my experiences trying to find a roommate when looking for a new place a while back & explaining the difference between a good roommate vs. a bad roommate). I also think one eventually ages out of being able to have roommates, say if you've been married or you're past a certain age since frankly nobody needs to be policing your sex life when you're into your adult years or are going through a divorce. Some of the requirements I've seen for roommates in NYC would make you think we lived in a field of convents.

They say volunteering is a good thing and something you should do in life. Discussion on Christmas coming up, how things are going and where I'm at vs. where I've been. I hadn't considered this topic in years and read about it more recently. It seems more people are on board with it now but I say it depends on your family dynamics and situation. I'm against it if your family refuses to see you as an adult, your family is dysfunctional (so not fiscally responsible or rich enough to save a dime for your future nest egg) or you could do better getting a roommate and paying a real landlord.

A LOT has been going on, hence the delay in episodes. However, things are slowly calming down. This is an update on my life generally and why you don't tell someone to "get over" a trauma when they are STILL having to deal with the ramifications of (such as living in a homeless shelter after being driven out of their home or still having nothing of their own after their ex took everything).

A lot has been happening since the last season, including the implosion of my housing situation (though something really needed to give). Just as it says: I can finally speak freely about some things with the Energizer Bunny deciding he'd rather block me than actually accept some relevant facts of life (such as any friendships you have with an ex post-breakup are totally at the leisure, time table and control of the dumpee, not the dumper), engage in any meaningful self-reflection or recognize that he may not be operating with all the relevant facts (such as why I asked what I asked recently). I definitely saw some psychological projection in there.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with that quote "Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about." It's been applied in everything from discussing addicts to sex abusers; I'd like to know why children living in those situations are supposed to "be kind" and enable the ADULTS who failed them. For context, I grew up with an alcoholic father and while I was a very smart child, I wasn't exactly capable of getting a job and my own place to live at 7 years old (when I told my mom she should get a divorce after we had to flee our home from my father while he was in another drunken rage). This is just one example of where that ethic is not so great when applied to real life.

The title says it all: don't minimize or lecture someone else about their lived experiences if you want anybody to not do the same thing to you or believe that you are worthy of human consideration. Trying to change this basic reality just furthers the same things you hate.

I recently watched the documentary "We Need To Talk About Cosby" as well as a video response to it. This episode isn't about assessing Bill Cosby's guilt or innocence; I just wonder whether someone could replicate Cosby's position in his time, his impact on the cultural landscape and operate as he did with nobody taking any steps to punish him for his crimes until many years later.
This leads to a few more related musings like what would happen right now if you went to the police and said a public figure raped you last night/2 days ago/some very recent point in time + had all your physical evidence i.e. you did everything right.

This is a guy I noticed everyday when I started my job on Wall Street. I feel he epitomized the image I have of Wall Street so I dubbed him "Mr. Wall Street." Not my romantic type at all but me approaching this guy one day was a huge emotional leap for me and something I'm still proud of myself for having done even though he didn't become some new friend & it wasn't a particularly positive interaction.

I have a rather complicated history with this holiday and realized I hadn't done an episode about it. Fortunately, this one was good but still sad because the Energizer Bunny wouldn't have ditched me or ignored it like other guys in the romantic orbit did. At least I have guy friends who acknowledged it and made me feel loved.

My actual experience going to a gun range to take a course on pistols, learning about gun safety, doing shooting, etc. This also leads me to my stance on the 2nd Amendment as it relates to self-defense, particularly if you are in a "vulnerable" group prone to being victimized & in the context of the "defund the police" cheerleaders.

Well, which is? Except for this most recent one, which has been killing me in a lot of respects, every single other breakup I've had was based on anger and followed an easy enough formula. You think only large women have problems clothes shopping?? Think again!! Making the standard sizes larger does nothing for the naturally skinny among us. Going back to pre-pandemic weight has meant more alterations, bottoms I had before fitting again and seeing dresses like this at the store that are all too big for me.
That pic is of a Calvin Klein dress I saw at Macy's that reminded me of something the lead in a rom com would wear while working in her great career. I don't have anything like that. However, even a modern day 0 is too big for me in Calvin Klein; I know since I tried on some dress pants in a 0 that were too big in the waist.

My 9/11 story isn't particularly sad or tragic since I was a college student in Atlanta at the time, didn't have any relatives living in NYC and had no friends in NYC at the time. However, I definitely remember where I was and what I was doing that day since time was endless, things were surreal and 4 Day Guy came into the picture.
