Being in business requires you to wear many hats and the pressures to succeed can be overwhelming, especially if you are working with a spouse or close friend.

How often do you hear of partnerships failing between business partners because the pressures of separating business and friendship becomes too much.

As a new Mother, when you realise you need an INCOME and you have a DESIRE to stay at home with your newborn, you “make a plan” as they say in South Africa!

And this is exactly what Louisa did - she made a PLAN.

Louisa saw a gap in the market 6 years ago for women wanting to advertise their own businesses online but there were not many options available.

This was an opportunity for her to create something out of necessity and so she got to work.

After 6 months, she only had 100 members so the struggle was very real. This was the time to give up and most people do at this point. However, a burning desire to be a stay at home mum and also earn an online income meant Louisa had to dig deep to make a success.

What transpired next is truly inspiring to all women out there…

B**ack when he was first getting successful, Tony Robbins apparently started charging ONE MILLION dollars for personal consultations.

His reason was surprising. It wasn’t for the money.

It was because his goal was to help people improve their life, and his biggest problem was people not doing the necessary work after coming to see him. So if someone spends a million dollars, they’re sure as hell going to do the work. He says it kept his success rate at 100%.**

**Sounds crazy right?

Now, I'm not suggesting you need to charge US$1 MILLION, but what favours are you doing people when you continue giving them access to "free" stuff.**

Over the last year I’ve had some extremely talented women reach out to me for help to take their businesses online.
Now most of them came to me with amazing “Zones of Geniuses” that they are eager to share with the world, but they are not sure how to do it.
Some of them have a traditional brick and mortar business and realised they have to go online, but they are really stuck on how to move forward…
Some of them have even tried to do this on their own but were just going round and round in circles, doing a bit of everything and not really getting anywhere.

Do you live with a perfectionist? Do you know one?

I live with a perfectionist every day, my dear husband, Stephen, and let me tell you, it can be exhausting!

Even he often jokes and says, “Try being me, it’s tiring...I sometimes even exhaust myself”.

Looking from the outside in, I see someone who never reaches “their” destination. Someone that is restless and always searching. As soon as they hit a target or goal, they move the goalposts again. They want to achieve more - going faster, longer, harder with apparently no end in sight.

In psychology, perfectionism is a personality trait characterised by:

“a person's striving for flawlessness and setting excessively high performance standards, accompanied by overly critical self-evaluations and concerns regarding others' evaluations.”

To a perfectionist, anything that's less than perfect is unacceptable.

Now, I have seen many women get stuck in the “get ready to get ready” mode, because they want everything to be perfect before they get started.

“I’m just waiting for my website to be ready”

“The colours or fonts on my website are not quite right”

“I need professional photos done”

“I don’t have a logo yet. I won’t look professional”

So even though 2020 came with a lot of challenges, it also came with a lot of opportunities. Opportunities are everywhere around us, we just need to keep our eyes and ears open to what’s going on around us…
"But how do we find these opportunities", you might ask?
Well, you need to find out what people are having a problem with and then purely offer a solution to that problem…and that’s exactly what I did in 2020.

After arriving here in South Africa in late March, lockdown happened a week later, and we all know the devastating effect that has had on the economy of the country. People couldn’t go to work, some people’s salaries were cut, people with small businesses couldn’t open and subsequently couldn’t earn money and so on and so on…
I was watching how restaurants, airbnb’s, beauty salons, real estate agents and so many more people from different industries were struggling financially because of this lockdown…while all along my own online business was not only surviving but actually growing.

And that’s when I got this idea…I realised I had the knowledge that could help so many people that’s going through this difficult time to take their businesses and go online…and before I knew it, I was putting together a course that teaches women in South Africa to take their businesses online - whether they had an existing business or just an idea of something, or even a hobby they love doing they would like to turn into an online business…

And that’s how my “Kickstart Your Online Business” program was born.

I learnt so much about launching a new “product” in a country where almost no one knows me, but I am excited for all the possibilities it is going to offer not only myself but the hundreds of women I am planning on helping in 2021.

As a woman we play so many roles every day…mother, wife, taxi driver, chef, business owner, we just never seem to have enough hours in the day to do it all.

We start with such good intentions, plan out our day the night before and then…it’s like the whole world is conspiring against us to make sure we don’t get things done!

One of the happiest moments and one of the most scariest moments in any mothers life is the day her baby is born.

Suddenly you are totally responsible for this tiny little human being and they didn’t exactly come with a guide or "How To" manual…you just get thrown into the deep end!

And from that first day you start thinking about which school your kid needs to go to and getting their name on the waiting list for 5 years from now…

They get to school and we dream of them getting A’s, being on the first team and excelling at everything, that maybe, we never did…

A couple of days ago a very good friend of mine sent me a Ted talk of a lady called Julie Lythcott-Haimes…

Julie believes in humans and is deeply interested in what gets in our way. She is the New York Times bestselling author of the parenting manifesto How to Raise an Adult. Julie is a former corporate lawyer and Stanford dean, and she holds a BA from Stanford, a JD from Harvard, and an MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts

Now unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get in contact with Julie yet to have her as a guest on my podcast but I decided I don’t want you to miss out on her incredible TED talk on "How to raise kids without over-parenting them…"

One of the first habits we start learning as a young child is brushing our teeth. In the beginning we don't like it very much, we probably forgot to do it some days, but our parents persisted with the "Have you brushed your teeth yet?" and the result of it today is that we are in the habit of brushing our teeth at least twice a day, every day!

Creating good habits requires the same effort as it does in creating bad habits, so why not focus on forming habits that will get you a step closer to where you want to be?

What are habits?The dictionary explains a habit as the “Decisions and actions performed repeatedly that become part of your daily behaviours.” Why do we start? Why do we keep doing it? What is the reward we will gain from continuing this habit?

Is it because of...
The simplicity of the action required?
It’s easy to do?
It’s attractive?
It’s rewarding?

Your life right now is probably the sum of your daily habits...
Healthy vs unhealthy,
High energy vs low energy,

Overweight vs ideal weight.

Sometimes when we are rushing through this thing called life, it is so easy to start taking things for granted and forgetting how valuable our time is, and that we can’t just assume we are going to be here tomorrow.

Last weekend was a long weekend here in South-Africa. It was the first weekend that tourism was open to the public since lockdown happened at the end of March, and it was so good to see how busy everyone’s businesses in the tourism industry were.

We decided to go away for a relaxing weekend with my brother and his family, enjoying the sights and everything the beautiful Karoo had to offer.

At 1am Sunday morning our blissful weekend took a turn for the worse in a way we could never have anticipated…

Today I want to have a real heart to heart chat with you!

As some of you might know, I started my online business just over 7 years ago. I was working full time at that stage, running around 3 kids as a “single mum” as I like to say, because Stephen was working away on the mines back then, and I am not going to lie…it was hard but I knew I wanted more…I wanted my husband home…I wanted more time with my kids…I wanted more choice…I wanted to have an income where I can call the shots…

Fast forward 7 years on…

We have a successful online business, we have choices, we are happy and most importantly we have one of our most valuable assets back…TIME!

We started 2020 excited as this was our year of working location free for most of the year… travelling from Dubai to Amsterdam, Barcelona to Tuscany and a whole lot in between, finally spending the last 5 months in South Africa and Zimbabwe with our family.

Now needless to say…things didn’t quite work out that way. Dubai was wonderful, the 3 days in England were cold and then we abruptly had to change all our plans and head to SA before the lockdown. For the last 4 months we have been nestled in our beautiful AirBnb in Sedgefield. Our business has been growing so much (there’s a huge focus right now on health and wellness…surprise surprise) and I am extremely grateful for that.

But here’s the thing…It’s very hard for me to sit back and enjoy my blessings when all around me the world is falling apart, especially here in South Africa. Small businesses are closing down left right and centre…talking to my friends who have AirBnb’s that are sitting empty, the tourism industry has all but collapsed, restaurants are suffering, the wine industry is suffering with the ban on alcohol sales…people’s salaries have been cut by 50%. There are so many more stories I’ve been told and it's devastating…

It’s devastating to watch this happening around you. Part of what makes a place so special is the places you can visit when you go there…and when those places are no longer there it really is heartbreaking.

So, with all this said and done…I’ve been thinking what can I do, right now, to help?

Do you wake up in the morning feeling completely overwhelmed, not sure where to start or what to do next?

The kids need to get to school - ok maybe not at the moment – kudos to all the “mum teachers” out there by the way – you have to rush to work and some days you have no idea how you can work on this dream of yours you want so badly, but it feels you just don’t have enough hours in the day.

If this is you then I want to introduce you to “The Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod. This is one of the best books about life-changing daily regimes that aim to transform your life before 8 AM. It suggests and describes an original 6-step routine, based on a concept called habit stacking and the belief that a good morning can make for a good day – any day.

Hal had a car accident when he was 20, and even died for 6 minutes. Fortunately, he came back to life.

He spent several days in a coma and when he finally woke up, the doctors told him that he has permanent brain damages and he may never walk again.

Hal succeeded in getting over this tragic event and discovered that mind has an unimaginable power.

Not only is he a normal person, whose brain works normally, but he also went to run a marathon, wrote several bestsellers, became a successful coach and are one of the most famous people around.

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail…”

Goal setting and planning is crucial when it comes to succeeding in your business.

But what exactly is a goal?

“A goal is a target to aim for, something which you do not already have but when achieved will enhance your life in some way. It may be something you want to HAVE (a new house, a holiday), BE (a more confident person, a healthier person) or DO (change career, learn a new skill).”

I have found that succeeding at a goal provides enormous motivation for achieving even more.

Effective goal setting relies on a combination of three factors:

What you want to achieve:

These are your goals. They’re the result you want to see, like losing 10 kilos or writing a novel.

How you’re going to get there:

This is your plan or the daily actions you’re going to take to get the results you want. Like running 10 km a week or writing every day.

Why you want it:

These are your habits. They’re the unconscious routines that drive your daily actions.

That last part—the why—is the most important part of the entire goal setting process.

To accomplish your goals, however, you need to know how to set them.

You can't simply say, "I want" and expect it to happen. Goal setting is a process that starts with careful consideration of what you want to achieve and ends with a lot of hard work to actually do it.

In between, there are some very well-defined steps that transcend the specifics of each goal. Knowing these steps will allow you to formulate goals that you can accomplish.

I often get asked the question, “If you could do anything differently when you first started your business, what would it be?” and without a doubt I wished I started building my email list from day 1!

Another question I often get is, “But as NWM we don’t need an email list, the company send out all the emails on our behalf,” …that is true but building an email list is not just about having your current customers on your list, it’s just as important to grow a list of potential customers.

What are you going to do once you run out of your warm market and have no one to contact anymore…where are you going to find people to talk to? Walk around the malls and hope to bump into someone that might be interested in what you have to offer?

No, my friend, that is not the way to do it!

Email marketing is one of the best and most effective ways to market your business. The best part is you are marketing to people that are looking for what you have to offer, which means they are your ideal customers.

I know a lot of people use social media to build their online businesses and network marketing businesses and that’s exactly what I do to, however the reality is we don’t own those social media platforms, Mark Zuckerberg does. And if he decides one day for whatever reason that he wants to turn those platforms off, how are you going to connect with your audience.

You own your email list and getting your audience to opt-in to your email list makes sure that you can stay in contact with them, no matter what.

Now it’s definitely going to take some time to start building an email list, but it will be so worth it in the end and a great investment of your time.

Do you need a niche?

Honestly one of the most common problems I see out there, is that most network marketers DON’T have a niche. They got involved with their products, loved them and one of the most common messages that the company sends out to everyone is “Our products are for everyone” - which by the way I’m not denying I’m not saying your products aren’t for everyone – but that’s not the way you want to market yourself on social media.

The question that gets asked all the time is…
Do I need a niche?
I’m struggling to find my niche?
I can’t figure out what my niche is?

What is a marketing funnel?

Today we are talking about the F word that can cause so much confusion…and that is FUNNELS!

Georgie has gone through her own struggles when it comes to body image and it was through this time, and coming out the other side, that she was inspired to help others fall in love with who they are again.

Her mission is to change body image for generations to come by helping others have a better relationship with their body, food and exercise. Her motto is “If we are going to change body image for generations to come, we have to rewrite our story first”.

Take a minute to think of something that you know absolutely everybody likes.

I know right…it’s not that easy…

You might say…holidays?

Well, time off actually stresses some people out more than it relaxes them.

What about…puppies? Some people are afraid of or allergic to dogs.

OK I know…surely everyone loves chocolate!!!

As strange as it might seem, not everybody loves it. [Insert shock horror here]

It’s hard to think of something, isn’t it? People are different - we all like, want, and need different things. Our choices are motivated by our personal thoughts and preferences…and the emphasis here is on the word personal.

Your business works the same way.

It’s not a “one size fits all” solution…we spoke about that in last week’s episode…There are certain people who will absolutely love your product or service and rave about it until the cows come home….while others simply won’t see the point or value in what you’re offering.

It’s for this very reason that it’s so important to identify your ideal customer…your bestie…that person that can’t wait to buy what you have to offer…

…and that’s exactly what we’re talking about today.

BY the end of this episode you will know your ideal customer like the back of your hand…she is going to become your “bestie” your newest BFF. You are going to know everything about her but more importantly…you are going to know her “feelings”…what makes her happy…what makes her sad…what keeps her up at night…her values…her beliefs…all the things that are important to her!

One of the most common things I have seen in business and especially in NWM is that we believe our product is for everyone and we want to sell our product to EVERYONE! After all, that’s what we get told over and over again! RIGHT?

How many people are there in your industry selling the same thing or something very similar to you?

I often here people saying “How can I sell these products if there’s already 100 other people on the Sunshine Coast selling them?

I know you’re probably thinking how the hell am I going to stand out in this crowd of people all doing the exact same thing as me? How am I ever going to sell my products!
