Forgiveness lies at the core of the Christian faith. The cross gives us access to God and accomplishes the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus spent about 3 hours on the cross and during this time the course of the world was changed forever. Jesus willingly endured suffering, transferring the sins of the world onto Himself, and demonstrated ultimate love and obedience to the Father. The ultimate calling of Jesus is also the most challenging: to love our enemies and pray for those who hate us. Jesus invites us to turn the other cheek, go the extra mile, and bless those who curse us. This is the highest calling for anyone who identifies as a citizen of the Kingdom of God. This radical love is only possible because Jesus loved us while we were enemies of God.

In modern Christianity, the words "praise" and "worship" are often used as synonyms.
However, Scripture shows they are two sides of the same coin: praise is the path, and worship is the destination.
Praise and worship are not music styles—they are spiritual postures of the heart and body.
We’re not just singing—we are entering the presence of the King.
God is worthy of both joyful praise and deep reverence.

As citizens of heaven, we are called to reflect God's values in our daily lives. However, we often forget the true source of our strength: fellowship with other believers. While personal prayer and Scripture reading are vital, it is in community—within the body of Christ—that we experience the greatest growth. God desires to transform us through the church, which serves as His embassy on earth, representing His Kingdom.

The Scriptures tell us that we are citizens of heaven while living here on earth, making us foreigners in this life, called to represent the Kingdom of God. But what does this truly mean? It means that, as good citizens, we embrace the privileges of God's Gospel, reject the ways of the world, and defend God's Kingdom as ambassadors. As citizens of heaven, we have been adopted into God's family. Adoption carries both privileges and responsibilities. The privileges we receive include salvation, redemption, and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Our responsibility now is to become more like Jesus and to cultivate the gift we have received. Being adopted by God into His family means becoming foreigners to our old life. Although this transition is challenging, as our past selves and sins call us back, the Scriptures remind us that we are a new creation. We must embrace a new spiritual diet to help us mature and let our old selves fade away. By accepting both our adoption and foreigner status, we bring glory to God."

As adopted children of God, we aspire to be holy and to become more like Jesus. However, at times, this process can feel like hard work. While some seasons may be more challenging than others, it’s important to remember the core essence of the gospel: we strive for holiness because we belong to Christ. We do not pursue righteousness to earn salvation; rather, because we are already saved. This truth sets us free to continue pressing on in our journey of faith.

The resurrection of Jesus gave us a mandate to go back into our normal life and live as resurrected people. Paul reminds the church in Rome, "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you(Romans 8:11)." The Jesus Shaped Life is a long journey with a specific purpose of making us like Jesus. But this life is not easy. Jesus said its like entering the narrow gate and few find it. What's the purpose of going through this journey if it's hard? Turns out that the hardships themselves are the mechanism to shape us and form our hearts after God.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ gives us two guarantees: Everlasting life after we die and the possibility to live a holy life while we are alive. Most Christians focus on the first guarantee without thinking about the second. But as Jesus people, we are called to "anticipate the end" while living for Jesus Christ in the present. If we want to effectively share the message of Jesus with others, we first have to learn to listen to their stories. More importantly, we need to know how to speak to their hearts not just minds. The biggest test of our maturity in Jesus is our desires to bless others. We receive salvation and sanctification by the sacrifice of Jesus and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Love is the number one discipline in Scripture. It is the thing Jesus is most concerned with modeling and teaching his students and it is the thing they most often get wrong. If you want to master one discipline to further your discipleship - the discipline to train - is loving others. In loving others we find a deeper appreciation for God and a greater honesty regarding our sin and brokenness.

The Jesus Shaped Life is all about picking up our cross and dying to ourselves. Communion reminds of the death of Jesus and how His sacrifice empowers us to see beyond the pain of death to self while living into a resurrected life.

As disciples of Jesus, we first find look to the Scripture to find truth and direction for our lives. The problem we run into is a lot of times, we don't have the power to live the truth as we fight the three enemies of the soul (the devil, the flesh, the world). Yet, Jesus promised us not only the truth, but the power to actually change to conform to that truth. Join us as we discuss how we can change through our identity in Christ.

As soon as we submit our hearts to Jesus, a battle for our mind begins. We are impacted by lies about "how to be happy" from the devil, the flesh, and the world. Jesus goes to work on changing our underlying assumptions about what makes us happy and in the process begins undoing the lies we live out each day.

As followers of Jesus we tend to measure our spiritual maturity by our knowledge of God (theology) and our involvement in church life. Yet, Jesus measures maturity in a different way completely. He tells his disciples that "Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom, but those who do the will of my Father." Living for Jesus is more than just knowledge, it's the ability to hear His voice and follow where He calls. Join us as we start a new sermon series this week.

Most of us come to the end of the year tired and weary. Many goals and resolutions from January have not been fulfilled. Yet, if we have Jesus and can hear His voice, the promise from God is that he will give us rest. Join us as we end the year with our focus on Jesus and all that He has done!

Christmas is really about two stories playing out at the same time. In one story, we see the people of God including Mary and Joseph going through the struggle of registering for a census for the purpose of paying taxes. At the same time, God was still doing a miracle in the middle of all of this! He was bringing Christ the Lord into the world to bring forgiveness, reconciliation and peace. God is still doing something in our world, we just need to see it!

We don't always get what we want in life. Whether is presents for Christmas or dreams and ambitions that don't always come true, life is full of disappointments. The same was true for Joseph and Mary as they started a family. Yet, because they focused on obeying what God asked of them, they received the best present possible: The presence of God Himself. Immanuel, God with them who is God with us.

A few weeks ago we talked about what the Spiritual Gifts are and what they are to be used for. This week we take a look at some practical ways to discover what your gifts are through pray, the reading of Scripture and discernment in the fellowship of Christ (the church).

Spiritual gifts are ways God equips us to serve others while we wait for the second coming of Jesus. They are given to build up the church, be an appetizer of the Kingdom for a hurting world and create avenues for everyone in the Body to find their calling.

Eschatology is the study of the end of the world. We continually see a rise in wars, famines, natural disasters and other catastrophes. For thousands of years, the church has thought about the end in the light of Jesus Christ and the resurrection. It's easy to look at the news today and be filled with anxiety. The story of the Scriptures however, calls us to look at the end and live with hope.

We are called to be the gathered and scattered Body of Christ. When we gather, we build each other up through revelation, song, teaching and testimony. When we are scattered we are called to use our spiritual gifts for the "common good" of the world. How are you using your membership in the Body to serve and be served? God saves us to forgive us and to transform us. While God's salvation is His sovereign choice, we have the responsibility to grow into our new nature by pursuing a relationship with Jesus. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to empower the church to do the work of Christ here on earth. Expectations directly impact how we experience life. When it comes to faith, what we expect from it will also impact how we approach Jesus. In the Gospels, Jesus lays out a framework for what can be expected: life with abundance, salvation, and death. The last part sounds like an oxymoron, but in death Jesus also creates the possibility for new life. To attain this new life, we must first go through pain and suffering.

After Jesus fed the five thousand, the crowds went looking for Him the following day. Upon encountering them Jesus tells them they want him not because they saw a miracle but because they were filled with bread. This raises the question of why we follow Jesus? The first miracle Jesus performed in the Gospel of John was turning water into wine. But it's the way in which Jesus did this sign that points to God's desire for humanity. In his Gospel, John identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God. This is in reference to the Passover Lamb from the Old Testament when God freed the Israelites from slavery. Jesus likewise, through His sacrifice saved us from the slavery of sin. Join this Sunday for fellowship, worship and communion.

Jesus Didn't just come in person, he specifically dwelt in a particular location, time and place. By relating to us at a human level and revealing to his disciples the nature of God, Jesus made the truth accessible to all. Access is the necessary ingredient before change can occur. We are unimpressed with the small and want things to be "big" and "impactful." Yet, God always starts His work with small things. King David was a Shepard, Jesus was born in a barn, and the cross seemed like defeat. God loves to find the lost. That is why Jesus came. Not to start a religious organization, but to sit with people around the table. To eat and drink with them.
