Mr. Satish Pandey is working as a Principal Scientist in Flexible Pavement Division of CSIR-Central Road Research Institute, New-Delhi India. He is also associated as an Associate Professor in Academy of Scientific and Industrial Research (An Institute of National Importance) and Border Road Organization, Govt. of India as an Officer on Board. He has seventeen years of long research experience in the field of Transportation and Highway engineering where he remains engaged with the development of new technologies and cost-effective materials for construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of roads in India.
He has been credited to develop World’s First All Steel Slag Road At Hazira Surat, Gujarat using processed steel slag aggregates as 100 % substitute of natural aggregates. This Road is dedicated to the nation by the then Hon. Ministry of Steel Shri R.C.P.Singh in June 2022. This Road is inducted into INDIA BOOK OF RECORDS AND ASIA BOOK OF RECORDS as “ FIRST STEEL SLAG ROAD” .

Researchers at the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP), Dehradun, have identified a fungus capable of removing toxic, recalcitrant, and carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from the environment. The rapid pace of economic development and industrialisation has resulted in the release of several PAHs into the environment. The PAHs are ubiquitous environmental pollutants originating from multiple sources, including combustion of petrogenic fossil fuels, and incomplete incineration of municipal wastes and biomass.Pyrene, possessing four benzene rings, belongs to the highly toxic class of PAHs, with carcinogenic and mutagenic properties. It gets lodged into the environmental matrices like soil, water and atmosphere, resulting in widespread environmental pollution, necessitating adequate remediation of contaminated environmental matrices.The researchers at IIP identified a white-rot fungus Trametes maxima IIPLC-32 which has the potential to cause microbial degradation of pyrene. According to researchers, growing on dead plants, this fungus causes pyrene degradation using special enzymes.ft. CSIR - Indian Institute of Petroleum has developed a novel fuel-efficient domestic cooking burner with the financial support of PCRA (Petrol Conservative Research Association). The designed burner has improved performance and has an Energy Saving Potential of 20-25% compared to the in-use PNG stoves. Being dedicated to PNG use, it can replace 70 lakh in-use in-efficient PNG burners created by modifying LPG burners. The fuel saving will be worth Rs. 500 crore per annum for in-use PNG connections and an additional Rs. 4000 crore per annum for 4 crore targeted PNG connections in coming years. It can reduce 0.35 million tons of CO2 emissions per year from in-use PNG connections and additional 2.8 million tones of C02 emissions per year for the 4 crore targeted PNG connections in coming 4 years. ft. Dr. Sinha along with his team of scientists have developed a home-grown technology to produce bio-jet fuel. The produced bio-jet fuel has been formally approved for use on military aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF).Earlier on 26 Jan 19, an AN-32 aircraft, filled with blended bio-jet fuel, had flown over Raj Path at New Delhi during the Republic Day celebrations. Thereafter, the performance and reliability of the Indian technology were also tested when the Russian military aircraft safely landed and tookoff from Leh airport on 30 Jan 20 at high altitudes under severe winter conditions. The fuel was also used on a civil, commercial demonstration flight operated by SpiceJet on 27 Aug 18 from Dehradun to Delhi. Ms. Poonam Gupta & Dr. Robindro Lairenlakpam - Scientists CSIR Indian Institute of PetroleumA prototype of EV Retrofit kit has been developed for conversion of existing diesel/gasoline small cars into zero fuel, zero emission Electric Vehicle. With the kit two old Maruti cars (800 & Zen model) were converted into EV's. The prototype kit has been developed with a vision for indigenization and import substitution (Aatma Nirbhar) of EV sub system. A multi-source hybrid charging station has also been set-up. With the help of CSIR-NAL, CSIR-IIP has carried out a study to demonstrate laboratory scale Renewable Hybrid Energy System(ReHES) for electricity generation. The working demo unit of ReHES at CSIR-IIP campus comprises biogas-wind-solar energy systems with a prototype hybrid controller. The unit is being used for EV charging. Dr. Srikanth Sola is an eminent cardiologist who has, for over several decades, treated thousands of heart patients both in the US (Cleveland Clinic) as well as in India (Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences). It was back in 2008 when he moved back to India to serve the poor that he saw that air pollution was causing millions of deaths to young and healthy people. This motivated him to work towards alleviating the root cause – air pollution.
With his vast exposure to bio-medical engineering, he began researching the possibilities of mitigating ambient air pollution using different medically tested methods. Thus, with over 10 years of meticulous research and development, Pure Skies, the breakthrough technology for mitigating ambient air pollution was developed. He observed that not only was this new technology showing results in reducing ambient air pollution, but the number of patients complaining from heart and respiratory illnesses around the deployment area reduced significantly. Even the number of deaths due to such illnesses
had a significant drop.
Backed by over 10 years of R&D, Dr. Srikanth founded Devic Earth, a green technology company offering scientifically tested solutions for environmental pollution in 2018.

With the growing demand of food delivery, and hence the growing order volume, there was a lot of single use plastic waste generated, which wasn't collected back and probably landfilled or burnt. So Infinity Box is aimed at creating a REUSE platform for not just food delivery, but for any quick commerce delivery today. So we want to reuse the resources that have already been utilized in creating different products like plastic containers to use for delivering food over and over again, and ensure that they're completely recyclable at their end of life, so that we can create a truly circular economy.
How does the process work on Swiggy?
Swiggy has a team of dedicated customer care agents, who give you a call, as soon as an order is placed at one of our partner restaurants. They ask you if you want to opt in for a reusable container, and we don't charge anything extra. So if you do, then we send somebody to collect it from your house at a convenient time, we bring it back to our facilities, wash them, and then replenish the inventory of partner restaurants.
Reuse is the most environmentally friendly way. We just have to figure out how to make it work

I think you have to change the composition of the atmosphere. You can't do that with words, you can only do it by actually changing the composition of the atmosphere. And you're going to use scientific principles and implement hardware and chemistry and biology at scale to make it happen. Data doesn't solve problems, data points to problems, hardware solves problems. Without hardware, without science, and without implementation of biology at scale, climate change is not going to be solved. You can put out as many satellites as you want, and you can build as many API's on climate as you want. But they're not the solution. They're pointers to the problem, and maybe even detailed pointers, but at some point, you have to take those pointers and solve them, solve it physically and implement hardware.

"The Government of India has done a number of things to support this EV growth and we have seen this over the last one decade. But so far the financial institutions have not really come to the party as much as we would like from an industry perspective. So, the entire thing is either funded by the players, the industry players because so far the bigger players have been there who have good kind of cash flow. They funded it largely through their internal accruals. But I would say going forward especially when new players come or startups come I think the financial institutions have to kind of adopt a bit of liberal approach and kind of treat this as a priority sector."

When you start your sustainability journey, then don't feel overwhelmed. You only can judge your sustainability journey and you only can improve by learning from your own mistakes.
In my journey, most challenging part was to push myself , mummy used to see the compost and say, what are you doing, there will be flies in house and she saw the bio enzyme, it has a white layer of yeast on bio enzyme and she was like don't do it. When I shared the idea of composting with my husband, he said no, we don't want to do it. Sometimes convincing family members is a task because everyone thinks from a different perspective and not everyone is as determined as you are. So, it's very normal. But slowly when they see your determination and slowly when they see that, Oh my god! Waste is converted into something very beautiful, then they will start appreciating you, they will even start helping you and they will start praising you. Slowly change will happen but in between you have to be very consistent and you need to be very determined about it.

PRIYA — India’s first female, Named a ‘gender equality champion’ by UN Women, the project was funded through a grant from the North India Office (NIO) of the U.S. Embassy New Delhi. Preserving the time-honoured tradition, Priya is escorted by the flying tiger, Sahas, and together they have to protect their enchanted forest from greedy industrialists threatening to cut down all the trees.With the help of a little girl named Somya and the local villagers, they defend their home — reminiscent of India’s Chipko movement. Priya shows Somya, who is suffering from asthma due to the toxic haze — the beauty of her forest and its power to heal Mother Earth and her.
In the film, Priya as a puppet interviews Dr. Vandana Shiva about the Chipko movement — a nonviolent protest by local Indian women to halt deforestation in Himalayan region. It became a rallying point for many future environmental movements all over the world. Priya talks with climate scientists Chris Rapley and Simon Lewis at University College London, and environmental activists Ridhima Pandey and Alexandria Villaseñor, who were part of Youth Climate Strikes, about how young people can join together and address local and global issues.

We have collaborated with multiple electric two wheeler manufacturers, and in our portal exter.in , we would be selling scooters from multi brand OEMs without batteries. If you come to our portal, you can find, compare and buy two wheelers without battery and just subscribe to our battery as a service, allowing you to offset the cost of ownership. These batteries would also be backed by our swapping network. We will be setting up about 50 swapping stations in Bangalore to start within the year one and we will be scaling up to about 300 swapping stations. Swapping station is something which we ourselves have 100% in house developed and it is 100% made in Bangalore. Whenever you find your batteries are out of charge, you can find the nearest swapping station, you put your old battery, take the new battery and drive back. So that's why we say Drive Unlimited.

If you believe in your product, your patience multiplies. You want to stick with it for longer. So one order, no order, zero order, we had nothing to lose, we had only one thing, that was to just grow. That was the idea that we cannot go beyond zero order. I mean, we cannot go negative, right?
One thing that we were certain of is the products that we were trying to sell, and we are still selling the products that people need in their life. And now there is a huge gap in terms of brands not talking about health and beauty being the two sides of the same coin. You see either brands constantly focusing on health, or they're focusing on your skincare, or they're focusing on hair care. And these are three different things, three different brands. But we wanted to be a brand who is encouraging a healthy lifestyle. We knew that the products for which we were trying to educate people were very unique, like all of our top selling products are very unique in that sense that we had to educate what a malt is, you know, sometimes people would ask us, oh, it's a jam, or is it something to be applied on your face?

We are one of the third largest startup ecosystem in the world. But more importantly, in the last four years, or five years, we have risen from a global innovation index of 81, to a position of 46. Now, that's an amazing growth. But I personally believe that we are in India, because of the focus on education that we have had, 1.4 million schools, 10,500 engineering institutions, 39,000 colleges, and 150 million young students entering into the workplace. And we have the need, the need for innovation, and the need for entrepreneurship. So we need climapreneur, climate entrepreneur, we need people who are going to become entrepreneurial, and are going to create entrepreneurs solutions, keeping climate change in minds, and retreating and re-emphasising that a solution which does not promote climate friendly or sustainable solutions is not a solution to be pursued.

I started with a podcast where I interviewed my, my dad and stepmom, and you can say, at that very beginning that first journey, well, you're not really doing anything. I mean, you're just talking, you're recording a call with your family. This is very cliche, but you know, a 1000 mile journey starts with a single step. The point is that, I started with that call, and then a second call recording podcast recording, then a third and then eventually, it turned into 80. And in the meantime, we had started this Instagram thing and every single time you take a step forward, what you realise is you learn more, and you would never be able to see any of that from where you were standing before. It's like, going up in an elevator on a skyscraper. You can't possibly imagine what you'll see from the 10th floor when you're standing on the on the first floor. And when you get to the 10th floor, you can't imagine what's on the 20th floor until you get there and the view keeps changing and you realise more and more and more about what's important to you what impact you want to make.

If you if you volunteer for a plogging drive like a beach cleanliness drive or a mountain trail, trash cleanliness drive, you will have to bend down maybe 3000 times or at least a few 100 times in an hour to pick trash and just once if you do that no matter what demographic do you come from which part of the society, you will never throw trash again. Similarly, if you volunteer with any nonprofit, there are at least 1000 of them doing very good work in the remote areas of India. If you volunteer with them for any cause, especially around the environment, you would see how privileged you are. No matter how difficult your life seems right now, how bad the situation feels. Oh, my God, things are not working out. But when you see those villagers, those people in the slums or the tribal areas, and you see them, they smile, even with those limited resources, when they are not sure about the next meal, you will realise how privileged you are and you will feel like giving back to the society much more creating much more impact.

We have conserved more than 35,000 Crore litres of water.
For me the challenge was doing something which was unconventional. Like we, conserving water. So my parents' business was in hardware and you know, construction, and I was talking about not continuing that and I was talking about conserving water. But I'll be honest, at that moment, it feels awful. Like, you feel like you're at rock bottom, you feel like Oh, my God, I'm going to shut down. What do I do? Like, how do I solve this? Oh, God, everything is crashing, and you just have to get through that crash. There's no way to not feel that crash. There are days where you get zero sales. It's actually the farmer who can lead climate change, and he can be the climate warrior instead of being the victim of climate change and that's where I think the conversation should kind of head towards and realise why and how the farmer can play a huge role in building this journey towards sustainability in contributing in a quick change. When I think about it, I think sustainability can be far quicker to achieve if we have farmers on board.

Like, it's everyone's inner battles that they're going through. And I mean, I had a really really tough time even not only with viewers , like with my family, I mean, how do you suddenly tell people or stores. There are store owners who meet me now and they are like, oh, we've not had a collection from you for so long. And I'm like, Yeah, I stopped. Create those little small milestones for yourself that okay, Just this week, I will talk to two suppliers. Just this week, I will try and make a bottle design. Just this week, I will maybe just learn a little bit about e commerce and I think, focus on the short term goals. And just take those baby steps and one foot in front of the other, you start making progress.
Restore is a unique marketplace. What we do is, is a marketplace that reuses packaging, and so customers can order online from our store. And we have several different brands we work with. Right now we have like haircare, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, cleaning agents, laundry detergents. All of that comes to you in reusable packaging, you use the product as the inside. And once you're done with the product, we come back, we pick up the container, we clean it, we sanitise it, and we put it back into circulation. So it doesn't generate any waste at all.

Elise Buckle is the Director of Climate & Sustainability; Municipale/ Deputy Mayor in charge of Energy & HR for the city of Nyon, Switzerland. She has been working in the field of sustainable development and climate policy for 20 years. She coordinated the IUCN Global Programme with Africa and Asia providing capacity-building in programme development, monitoring and fundraising.She also advised cities on agenda 21 plans and gained experience from large multinational companies specialized in the energy sector (Total, Gaz de France) for Ernst&Young. She lead the successful REACH+ campaign for environment and health for the Green Members at European Parliament. She worked for WWF France as Climate and Energy Manager and then led the G20 campaign for WWF International during the French Presidency. In 2012, she joined UNI Global Union, an international network of 900 members representing 20 million employees, focusing on sustainable finance. She lead several CSR campaigns and managed to get Société Générale to sign a global agreement on human rights.
In 2016, she worked for the UNDP Climate Vulnerable Forum team focusing on climate and labour and for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development as climate policy manager. More recently she has been advising Dr. David Nabarro and the Nature-Based Solutions coalition for the UN Summit, COP23 Presidency Chief Negotiator Ambassador Khan and worked for CAN International as Special Projects Director leading three large initiatives (the CVF Summit, the Step Up Campaign and ShiftSEA).

And a good cocoa farm, if it's well managed, doesn't have to have any additional inputs other than water. So that way our opportunity was and our thought was, if this can happen at the farm, why cannot be replicated in the chocolate, so that the customer can experience the same level of circular economy or the same level of sustainability and recyclability in the final product. And fortunately for us, it worked. You know, fortunately, we were able to put things in perspective and take it forward all the way to chocolate. So, because I think we took one step at a time we were able to go this far.

It was not a very smooth switch. My parents are not very comfortable with me leaving a job. I was also myself very scared. Because this was the first time I was doing it. I had no experience in the past of starting a venture or being into business, so there was a lot of fear, But you know once you get into it. Shifting from a corporate job to a startup, there is a fear, but there is no looking back then. Once you are into the startup, once you are an entrepreneur, it's even tougher you go back to a job then.

I'm creating awareness in the world people are coming with another view of the upcycled things and women empowerment and all the things. This is the recognition of upcycling, environmental sustainability, and women empowerment all the women who are working. It’s their recognition. I would like to say nowadays, an increasing amount of waste is generated, you know, so we need to be more sustainable. We need to recycle or upcycle as much as we can. And for the youngsters I would like to say okay, you can do so much you know at this age we are doing then then you are the techno savvy people you can do so much so let's do it and don't think of it just do it. Everything will happen on their own, you know, but decide to do it. “

So this is really the impact of Okhai. The truth of the proposition of this business is that women work from home, and they work on embroidery and craft, and people from all across the world are able to purchase those on Okhai, and knowing exactly where it's coming from knowing the name of the artisan who's making it, knowing and seeing how the process was made. And that not only creates livelihood, and brings money home to the artisans, what it brings a huge amount of pride in their work, a huge amount of confidence in what they do, and how they're able to raise their families. And, you know, it's the achievement, the sense of achievement of being able to go for a pop up to Bombay from a village creates a different kind of person in that woman. "

“So, I remember those initial posts, where I would be like its holiday but please do try to remember that the landfill is getting filled and the earth is our mother. Post like that, asking people for their time. And I am very glad, that I have come to a point, telling people okay, you have done your bit, take care of your family also, it's amazing because what the buddies started doing was, their children were studying, so they want to accompany them, they will do some cutting, sorting, stitching. One of the things which I always met with and was surprised, Paper, plastic, glass all these are counted very high when people are talking about recycling, scrap is not discussed much. Even if you are aware of it, you don’t know what to do with it. Another major challenge, people said why aren’t we selling it? I decided, in the beginning, we are not going to sell anything. We don’t want any money from anybody. We want your time and efforts. There is an ethical point also, the tailor is giving me some scrap, which belongs to someone else, how can I sell it. “
