How often do you feel misunderstood? We live in a society that is constantly misunderstanding intentions, passions, engagement, and most of all: people. In this podcast, Kellie Sbrocchi unleashes the tools she's developed as a woman often misunderstood. As an active-duty Navy Lieutenant, woman in uniform, model, entrepreneur, and Runner-up in Miss California USA, & never having won a "Miss" title in the Miss USA system -- Kellie explains why being “Miss”Understood by others and in passions means you're closer to understanding your OWN life.
What happens when you’re an active-duty Air Force officer who decides to build a personal brand, manage personal relationships, and embrace cosmetic surgery—all while working 50-hour weeks in uniform?
In this unfiltered episode, Kellie sits down with Lanae Lang, Air Force officer, executive officer, and one of the Air Force's first official social media ambassadors, who’s redefining what it looks like to #doboth.
Lanae opens up about undergoing cosmetic surgery while on active duty and how she navigated the approval process, funded it herself, and communicated openly with her chain of command. She also shares her dating red flags, including why “he has to like you a little more," and what it’s like to be recognized from social media. Together, they dive into the realities of balancing military professionalism with online influence, and why Lanae believes women in uniform deserve to embrace femininity, self-expression, and confidence.
As one of the Air Force’s first official social media ambassadors, Lanae helped lead several major projects, including coverage of Air Force Basic Training in San Antonio, Initial Flight Training in Colorado, and the Joint Base Andrews Air Show. She also offers an honest take on toxic friendships, burnout, and boundaries, and how she’s learned to fill her own cup, even when the job never stops.
From commanding respect to embracing confidence, Lanae proves you can serve your country without shrinking yourself. This one’s raw, empowering, and refreshingly real.

Grab an iced coffee—or an espresso martini if you’re feeling bold—in honor of Kellie’s birthday, because this episode is a full-on celebration of growth, glam, and the glow-up that comes with turning the page on a new decade. On this special edition of “Why Not Do Both,” Kellie spills all the ways her 30s are different from her 20s—and she’s keeping it real, hilarious, and a little sentimental.
She dives into styling with intention (going 100% glam when she’s “on” and unapologetically embracing sweatpants, rest, and solo time when she’s “off”), and how she traded a big, bottle-service crowd for a small circle of soulmates. Expect some laughs about her all-yellow 21st AND 31st birthday bash. Was it fabulous or just… a lot? and some honest talk about why intimacy now beats scale every time.
Kellie opens up about letting go of control, setting boundaries like a boss, and discovering that asking for help is actually a power move. She shares why the word “no” has become her favorite tool for protecting her peace and how regular time audits keep her energy, money, and calendar aligned with what truly matters.
Whether you’re approaching a milestone birthday or just need a reminder that evolving is part of the magic, this episode is your invitation to grow with grace, laugh at the lessons, and toast to the future.
And because it’s Kellie’s big day, she’s sending you a little birthday wish too: May your next season be full of clarity, confidence, and just the right amount of champagne (or espresso martinis). Cheers, friends—let’s #doboth, and let’s do it well.
Screenshot your favorite takeaway from the episode & share on IG stories, wishing our host the happiest of birthdays!
What if the stress you’ve normalized isn’t normal? In this Special Edition, Kellie sits down with Keri Ford—former Creative Director turned elite advisor to some of the world’s most influential women, and CEO & Founder of Elevate with Keri—to explore how resilience, nervous system regulation, and leadership intersect.
Keri has shared stages with leading neuroscientists and thought leaders, worked with celebrities like Alison Sweeney, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Kaley Cuoco, and was named one of the Top 100 Global Visionaries and 2024’s Most Empowering Women’s Transformational Coaches. Through her signature Somatic Success® methodology, she helps driven women expand their potential while cultivating peace, profit, and sustainable success.
In this episode, she doesn’t just talk about nervous system regulation—she leads Kellie through a LIVE somatic exercise to demonstrate how we can shift the stories our bodies hold. That’s why this episode is a Special Edition: it’s not theory, it’s practice.
Together, Kellie and Keri unpack what it really takes to balance ambition with pressure, and how to move past invisible barriers that keep women trapped in cycles of stress. Keri shares why the goal isn’t healing trauma but building resilience, and how to tear down the prison walls around your purpose so you can expand into your full capacity.
Kellie also opens up about the weight of rebranding the podcast, becoming more vulnerable on the mic, and navigating both support and scrutiny along the way.
This conversation goes deeper than pageantry, titles, or external success. It’s about rewriting the semantic story your nervous system tells, creating safety within, and cultivating the resilience to lead yourself and others with strength.

What does it really mean to do both—to be human and be in command? Command can feel intimidating, but this conversation is for young leaders who dream of taking command—or doubt they can. The truth? You absolutely can.
In this episode, Kellie sits down with LTC Amanda Pelkowski, an Air Force Academy graduate whose 17-year career has included deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the UAE, a tour at the Pentagon, and two command assignments—most recently as Commander of the 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
Drawing on her experiences leading across the globe, Amanda shares honest insights and practical tips for both aspiring and current commanders: why command is a team sport, when it’s okay to be the sledgehammer, and the importance of addressing problems head-on. She reflects on what she would have done differently, the power of a supportive partner, and the challenge of balancing marriage with the demands of leadership. From the hard work leaders owe their people to the nuances of leading on social media, Amanda shows that effective leadership is about more than authority—it’s about blending strength and humanity.

Kellie sits down with Veena Jetti, powerhouse investor, philanthropist, and founder of Vive Funds — a trailblazer who has transacted on over $1B in real estate and led the largest women-led deal in history. But Veena is quick to remind us that her story isn’t about being “self-made” — it’s about being team-made, fueled by grit, resourcefulness, and the courage to take risks that others shy away from.
This fiery conversation tackles privilege head-on — why acknowledging it doesn’t diminish hard work, how mentorship and support make success possible, and why women don’t have to play the “misery Olympics” of comparing who has it harder. Veena opens up about raising twin daughters while building an empire, rejecting the notion that motherhood slows women down, and instead using it as fuel to shift priorities, teach resilience, and model boldness.
She shares how she is intentional about teaching her girls gratitude, consent, and the courage to fail — because the way a mother speaks to her daughters becomes their inner voice for life. Veena’s motherhood journey is about mindset work, fearlessness, and inspiring her twins (and women everywhere) to #DoBoth — to lead, to nurture, to build, and to rise without apology.
Her billion-dollar track record may have made headlines, but it’s her boldness, honesty, and fire that make her unforgettable.

The Pageant Tea You’ve Been Waiting For!!
The advice no one tells you about competing in pageants—I’m spilling the tea from behind the judge’s table. After judging Miss Michigan USA and Miss Ohio Volunteer, I saw the same mistakes and the same winning qualities show up in both systems.
I competed in five Miss USA state pageants across Ohio, California, and Illinois. I was a 5x semifinalist, 2x finalist, runner-up at Miss California USA, a best overall swimsuit/fitness winner, and a 5x Miss Congeniality. And yet… after judging two different pageant systems in two different states, honestly, I would have competed completely differently if I knew then what I know now.
In this episode, I spill the tea on:
If you’re serious about competing, this is the kind of perspective most people will never tell you. This isn’t the polished advice you hear from coaches—it’s the unfiltered judge’s POV. If you’re competing, this is what you need to hear before you walk on stage.

What does it really look like to lead while honoring every version of yourself—creative, structured, empathetic, direct?
Rosie Noel is an executive coach who helps leaders integrate who they are with how they lead. In this live coaching session, she works with host Kellie Sbrocchi to navigate one of the most complex parts of leadership: blending multiple identities without diluting any of them. As a Naval officer, influencer, event host, and leader, Kellie has long wrestled with the question—can you really do both?
Throughout their session, Rosie helps Kellie unpack what it means to lead with both authority and relatability, to set boundaries without hardening, and to bring her full self to work while growing in visibility and responsibility. Together, they explore how having harder conversations earlier can be an act of care, and why doing both doesn’t mean doing everything all at once.
This conversation also confronts the belief that you need to be someone else to be taken seriously, and instead offers a leadership model rooted in authenticity, alignment, and self-trust. Rosie’s guidance challenges outdated expectations and helps redefine what strong, intentional leadership truly looks like.
For anyone who has been told they’re too much or not enough to lead, this episode offers a powerful reminder: you don’t have to choose between being warm and being taken seriously. There is strength in showing up fully, and power in honoring all sides of yourself.

Feeling empowered and confident as a leader can be challenging—now imagine navigating that journey inside a steel tube under the sea. Life on a submarine is daunting, mysterious, and something most of us know nothing about. LCDR Andrea Howard shares how she found confidence in her own way—and what that looks like 1,000+ feet below the surface.
In this episode, Andrea gives us a peek into “a day in the life” on a submarine, explains how she’s turned her self-described “nerdiness” into a leadership superpower, and why specificity is key to truly connecting with people. We dive into spheres of influence, the importance of carving out time for yourself, and what it means to create an unconventional version of balance in a high-stakes career.
LCDR Andrea Howard is a history-making leader in the U.S. Navy, one of the first fifteen female Executive Officers in the submarine force, and the Navy’s 2025 Arthur S. Moreau Scholar. She’s also a PhD student at MIT and has served as Navigator and Operations Officer on USS South Dakota and USS New Jersey, where she helped deliver the first fast-attack submarine designed for gender integration to the Fleet. (Oh, and she also won the 2023 CAPT Joy Bright Hancock Leadership Award… no big deal.)
Andrea’s story is proof that you can break barriers, build credibility, and still do things on your own terms—in and out of uniform.

Have you ever felt like following the ‘rules’ of success meant shrinking who you really are? Dr. Tiffany Moon — anesthesiologist, entrepreneur, bestselling author, motivational speaker, Real Housewives fan fave (yes, that was her on Dallas), share what it means for her to not just do both, but balance ALL.
We talked about what it means to color outside the lines — why she started her own businesses, built an empire online, and said yes to opportunities that didn’t exactly “fit the mold” of what’s expected of someone in medicine. Spoiler: It wasn’t always easy. She opened up about the struggle of being taken seriously by her peers while showing up as her full, feminine self online… and why she keeps doing it anyway.
Tiffany drops some real wisdom about networking, too — specifically how reaching out to people already doing what you want to do can open doors you didn’t even know existed. Don’t let the fear of rejection keep you small, friends.

LET'S TALK MENTORSHIP! We dive deep into the real talk around mentorship — and not just the shiny kind you see on LinkedIn. We’re talking about the different sizes of mentorship (it's not one size fits all!), how asking for help is actually a strength (not a weakness!), and why building your village is essential, especially in high-pressure environments like the military. I’m joined by one of my absolute best friends and all-around powerhouse, Jackie Barnum Fox — Marine Corps officer, nonprofit founder, and the heart behind Mentors In Service.
Jackie and I were roommates at the United States Naval Academy, so this conversation is extra special. Originally from the Bay Area in California, Jackie graduated from the Academy in 2014 and commissioned as a Marine Corps officer. Over the past eleven years, she’s served in logistics billets across Okinawa, Camp Pendleton, Newport, and Miramar.
Jackie shares her journey starting a nonprofit from the ground up — yes, we get into the legal bits too! — and how she’s using Mentors In Service to support the mental health and development of service members across all ranks and branches. Since launching the program in 2021, she’s facilitated over 3,500 mentor connections and built an online platform to expand this free service to service members, their families, and even those just considering military life.

This week’s episode is a little different — I’m joined by my husband, Austin Sbrocchi, for a behind-the-scenes look at what life is really like being married to an influencer.
Austin gets real about what it’s like living in the content whirlwind: the highs, the chaos, the comment sections (which, yes, he loves), and how he balances it all while cheering me on from the sidelines. He shares why he thinks I’m “a lot” — in the best way — and why he wouldn’t have it any other way.
We talk about setting boundaries and finding balance as a couple, how we navigate communication in the midst of constantly being “on,” and why choosing a partner who genuinely supports your passions is everything. From laughing about his Disney character comparisons to getting honest about what this life really looks like off camera — this one’s real, hilarious, and full of love.

Anthony “Tony P” Polcari—known online as “the nicest man on the internet”—isn’t just sharing fit checks and cooking tips. He’s leading a quiet revolution in what he calls vibrant masculinity—a version of manhood that’s warm, open, and deeply relatable.
Originally from Boston and now based in Washington, D.C., Tony is a consultant by day and content creator by... well, also by day—during Uber rides, lunch breaks, and late-night edits. With a background in storytelling, a love for cooking passed down from his parents and grandmother, and an instinct for making people feel seen, Tony has built a safe, inviting space online—one “Sunday fit” and wholesome vlog at a time.
In this episode, we talk about what it means to own who you are instead of running from it. Tony shares how he handles online critics, why he avoided reading comments for the first year, and how he leans on his real-life “cabinet” of trusted voices to stay grounded. In this episode, I sit down with my close Chicago friend of five years, Olivia—founder of Rise Pilates, certified instructor, content creator, podcast host, and someone I deeply admire for her ability to balance so many roles while fearlessly chasing big dreams.
Olivia is the founder of Rise Pilates Club, an accessible social wellness community in Chicago that has brought together over 10,000 people with movement. What started as a passion for making wellness more inclusive has evolved into a thriving space, both in-person and online, through WITHIN the app, where members can access tools for both mental and physical well-being on demand. We start by sharing how we met through Sports Illustrated and how our friendship has grown alongside our creative journeys. Olivia walks us through her intentional path—starting with her time working for the Chicago Cubs, then moving into social media management—all strategic steps that ultimately set her up to launch her own app and online wellness community.
And then came the wild summer of 2024: what began as a few casual outdoor Pilates sessions turned into a movement—literally. Over 2,000 people showed up at the beach to be part of Rise Pilates, a community Olivia didn’t plan to build, but fully embraced.
We talk about what it means to build slowly, with purpose, and how trusting your gut can lead to impact far bigger than you imagined. If you’re in a season of creating, pivoting, or starting from scratch—Olivia’s story will remind you that you don’t have to rush to build something real.

After a year away from the mic, I’m back—and reintroducing my newly rebranded show with the premiere of Season 6. Welcome to “Why Not: #DoBoth.” I’ve listened to you all, and I’m leaning into this brand because it reflects my life, my journey, and the questions I get asked the most across social media and in real life. This show is for anyone navigating the tension between ambition and responsibility, dreams and demands.
In this premiere episode, I open up about the past year of my life: the highs, the heartbreaks, and everything in between. I reflect on competing in Miss Illinois USA, share truths about my experience with Miss California USA, and speak candidly about what it really means to do both. I talk about the risks, the realities, and the emotional toll of trying to live a life of purpose and passion—while also honoring commitments and facing challenges like a delayed promotion to Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, something completely outside my control. I also open up about my battle with depression, and what it’s looked like to keep showing up through it all.
Joining me is my best friend, therapist, and portrait photographer, Sam Hardy, who co-hosts this episode and shares his perspective as someone who’s walked through these moments with me.
This isn’t just a new season—it’s a new chapter. If you’ve ever felt torn between what you have to do and what you want to do, if you’ve ever asked yourself how to keep going when the world says "pick one"—this one’s for you.

IT'S HERE! I leave for MISS IL USA in just under 48 hours & I'm celebrating with a pre-pageant podcast. I asked my Instagram audience what questions they had about MISS IL USA: You asked, I answered! In this episode, I have guest-host & best friend, Jackie Barnum, to dig into what my journey has been liked as I prepped for my very last state competition for Miss USA. It has been 8 years since I entered my first state competition at MISS OHIO USA 2017, it's been 4.5 years since I placed runner-up at MISS CA USA 2020, & 9 months since the Miss Universe organization changed its rules, allowing married women & women of all ages to compete. Clearly, this has been a long journey but also one of the greatest and life-altering experiences for me.
In this episode, Jackie & I dive into my journey leading up to MISS IL USA. What am I most nervous about? How did I find my coaches? How did I get approval from the Navy to compete? What was that process like? I tell ALL!
Thank you ALL so much for the love & support as I head into competition and for sending so many good vibes my way! Regardless of the outcome, I'm so grateful for this experience and the change to compete again, WHAT A DREAM!

MY FRIENDS TELL ALL! Social media only shares part of the story, part of my personality, and part of who I am. My close friends & inner circle TRULY understand who I am and what I'm like, both in my "professional" modes and personal life after hours. In an attempt to bring you an inside look on my personal life, I brought two of my closest adult friends, Demi & Taylor, onto the show to share what it's really like to be friends with me? I met Demi at one of my events nearly three years ago & we later connected, quickly becoming one of my biggest support systems as I balance life as an event coordinator and MISS IL USA contestant. Taylor actually messaged me on Instagram! Although we originally connected on social media, I invited her to an intimate "Bachelor Viewing Party" at my apartment and we've been close ever since. These ladies have known me through my chapter in Chicago, see the behind-the-scenes work as I balance and #doboth, but also love me whether I am wearing a full glam high pony or a sloppy bun in sweatpants.
Wonder what it's like to be friends with me? Tune in for this tell all.

Welcome to our own MASTERCLASS! Whether you are a full-time blogger, entrepreneur, or running an Etsy-shop part time, you KNOW the power of social media. In 2023, social media isn't just a way to share your favorite photos, it's a way to become a GLOBAL brand for yourself and your business. As a social media enthusiast, I have been growing multiple platforms on Instagram since 2016. Taking professional accounts to over 2 million impressions a month and growing my own personal brand to over 150k followers across multiple platforms. In this episode, I brought expert Cat Kennebeck on the show to dive into trends, best practices, and ways to not just start but CONTINUE building your brand across social media. Grab a notebook, you'll want to write these tips down. If you've been hesitant or stuck while trying to grow your social media accounts, this is the episode for you!
Meet Cat Kennebeck: "Originally from Chicago, went to the University of Missouri to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. I've worked as an on-air talent & host for Big Ten Network, NBC Sports Engine, ESPN, The Carolina Hurricanes, the Houston Astros organization, and most notably here in my hometown. The Chicago Blackhawks. I also had my own show on multiple iHeartRadio stations including the infamous 103.5 Kiss FM. BONUS EPISODE!! I was recently featured on Tony Nash’s podcast “Got your Six” and was honored to speak about embracing your authenticity, passions, daring to be different, and why being multi-passionate has built me into a better leader. I connect with Tony through social media and am blown away by his drive to share other stories and utilizing his voice to establish change in culture and break stereotypes. His podcast brings together current service members and veteran high performers to share their methods, strategies, and ideas delivered in an informative way and, most importantly, actionable ways that will help you lead yourself and those around you better from the battlefield to the boardroom.
In his write up for my Interview, he shared: "6ers, in a culture where there is often an expectation to choose one career path or focus on a singular passion, you can dare to be a trailblazer. The reality is that many people have multiple interests and are actually capable of pursuing them.
Kellie Sbrocchi is a U.S. Navy HR Officer, photographer/owner of Kellie Rene Photography, and host of the MissUnderstood Podcast. She is passionate about small-unit leadership, departmental leadership, sales, marketing, recruiting, public affairs, photography, writing, and public speaking. Kellie believes being “Miss” Understood by others and in passions means you're closer to understanding your OWN life. You will learn about the importance of prioritizing things that bring joy in life, even if they are a bit unconventional and not in line with society’s expectations. You only have this one life so if something no longer fills your cup, you’re allowed to turn your back on it and pursue something that aligns with your passions.
Kellie’s journey is a testament to how it’s possible to navigate different paths and how there is a place for multi-passionate individuals to be successful. It is time that we become more open, celebrate individuality, even if in a rigid environment like the army, and encourage the people behind us to explore their unique talents and interests."

Fact: the older you get, the harder it becomes to make + sustain quality friendships. As an adult, you’re less likely to find yourself in social situations which naturally invite opportunities to cultivate new relationships. In this episode, I bring (personal bff!) Cassie Collins on to discuss how we not only connected as adults but became best friends through shared experiences, goals, persistently, + intention. Cassie + I met through our now husbands when we were only 26; four years later + we’ve cheered on each others careers, milestones, grown even closer as long distance friends, + recently were in each others weddings. As career-oriented women with a heart for putting others first, we instantly connected based on similar values + experiences the same seasons of life together. We dive into why it’s important to be intentional about the friendships you pour into, why you should say “yes” to almost any invite as an adult, + why understanding your friends’ “love languages” allows you to grow + develop as friends. Friendships are truly about quality, not quantity, + we share why we think it’s important to keep your circle of friends small. Tune in to hear how you can work to not just make, but sustain, friendships no matter what season of life you find yourself in. __________________________________Follow https://www.instagram.com/missunderstood.podcast/ + https://www.instagram.com/kellie.sbrocchi/ on Instagram for episode updates + more. Do you feel like your Active-Duty service in the military is keeping you from pursing outside passions? Do you feel like your goals have an expiration date and that your service in the military is getting in the way of personal goals outside of your career? Well, STOP feeling that way and START changing your mindset--we're teaching you how. I'm approached by so many of you amazing listeners + followers (love you guys, btw!!) who want to pursue personal goals while also serving Active-Duty and have a passion to #doBoth. Whether you're trying to attack fitness goals, an Esty hobby, or acting on the side, there are small steps you can start making every day as well as milestones in your career to hit as your work toward these outside goals, but it starts with patience, intention, and determination.

We both speak candidly how we prioritized our careers first but kept our personal goals within reach along the way. We are digging into tips as to how you can, too, balance both your career in service and patiently pursue your personal goals and hobbies. Grab your notebooks, as multi-passionate women we have a lot to share about our trial, errors, and successes along the way.

At first, I designed this premiere ep. as a “rumor tell-all” where I addressed the rumors + assumptions that are made about me + why that makes me the queen of being #missunderstood. Then I reflected + realized — I didn’t create this platform to defend myself, I created this platform to uplift + inspire and know I can teach each of you why being misunderstood is actually GOOD. Who cares about the rumors? Who cares who they’re being told by? Here’s WHY rumors are a good thing to help you GROW (that’s right). I am setting the record explaining why being #MissUnderstood is a freaking SUPER POWER. In this episode, I update you on what’s being going on since you last heard from me, “How do you” Q&A, + why MissUnderstood is a superpower: + it causes reflection+ really helps you embrace your purpose + builds resiliencyAs well as It’s not a bad thing to be so misunderstood because it’s all working together to build a better YOU. I am so honored + thrilled to be here. This podcast + Miss-family mean the world to me. BONUS EPISODE!! I was recently featured on Teresa Carpenter's YouTube show & was so impacted by her powerful interview & this transparent conversation. A US Navy Commander, Public Affairs Officer, Podcaster, and friend, Theresa has become a tremendous mentor for me as I build my platform on the social media space. We connected through IG 2+ years ago as I was just started to begin my social media account, through her support and direction I've continued to build this community of female empowerment online + watched hers grow as well.
She featured me on her channel, "SOS" or "Stories of Service" where I (very transparently) discuss what happened, what's going on now, and what's next in my life. I dive into:
My initial "failure" as an Ensign when I did not obtain my SWO pin and how that effected me as a young Junior Officer and to this day.
Do I feel lonely?
How do I manage the naysayers?
Why did I deactivate my Navy Recruiting IG account @lieutenanthall?
My journey on social media and how it started and WHY I continue it.
Tune in to hear it all. Grateful Teresa shared my story & hope this can provide a dose of inspiration to you all.

"I was so impressed by [Kellie's] work ethic and ability to succeed in so many arenas I knew I wanted her back on for a more in-depth conversation on how she became one of the leading public figures serving in the military and sharing her story. Join us as we discuss what drives Kellie each day to succeed in her career as a naval officer, but also as a business owner, podcaster, writer, storyteller and informal/unofficial Navy recruiter. She is personally responsible for inspiring thousands to consider a life within the US Navy. Using her background in Human Resources, Recruiting, and the Surface Navy, she is educating the masses daily on military life including a recent stint at the Naval Academy broadcasting the Army/Navy game. Through her Instagram page with nearly 100k followers, she is showing how you can #doboth: kick butt in your naval career and be a leading thought leader within the active duty ranks. She’s particularly passionate on issues surrounding diversity, mental health, faith, and overall blasting stereotypes. I will be reading to you guys her extensive military biography on the show as I don’t want to miss anything, but felt compelled to personally write on her and give her the props she so richly deserves."

What’s #missunderstood? you are born with confidence and you cannot build it – wrong! One of my most FAQs is “Kellie how did you get so confident?” I promise, I wasn’t born with a lot of confidence. My confidence came from parents who empowered me, friends who supported me, and continuing to challenge myself as an adult. When I failed, I learned, picked myself up, & kept going because I knew it would make me better.
In this episode, I want you to UNLEASH the idea that you cannot build your confidence overtime + start attacking this area of your life today. I’m going to break down confidence-building over a 9 week process, starting with Day 1 and assisting you weekly. This isn’t meant to be easy, which is why I consider it a personal challenge.
What does my 9 Week Confidence Challenge entail? -Sanitizing your Social Media -Making Fitness a Priority to build Self-Confidence -Why Socializing is Important for Personal Growth -A challenging to attack & accomplish something personally “scary!”
I cannot wait to hear this confidence cleanse & implementation challenges your life to make you BETTER. Let’s make steps together to build a more confident, better YOU!

“Things just aren’t working out for me I’m not meeting anyone” — I get it, dating is TOUGH. I’ve heard this & still head this from so many of my girlfriends, but, I typically follow this comment with “how are you spending your time? Are you making yourself AVAILABLE to date?” Typically, they’re not.
In this episode, I’m digging into my dating tips & tricks that may seem simple & basic but have huge impact on your potential to meet someone. I’m going into how eye contact, clearing your calendar, placing yourself in a prime location in a restaurant, even following up after a date (yes, that’s making breaking “the rules” but who cares) can impact the probability of meeting someone.
Let’s put you in a better position & really help you take charge of your dating life. What’s most #missunderstood is It’s up to YOU to put your best food forward, no one else. Apply these tips & see what happens!

Grab your mugs -- it's time to sip some wedding TEA!! I have been waiting to release a post-wedding episode because I wanted to analyze, assess, and see if any of my initial feelings about the wedding would change overtime--they didn't. I am a very type-A, organized person (you're shocked, I know) so I planned for just about everything I could think of before the wedding. I took advice, asked every couple I knew what they loved or regretted, I read so many blogs, and I STILL had a few things I ultimately regret doing or not doing.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED our wedding. To this day, it still feels like a dream. It was truly the best, most magical day of our lives and it feels like it didn't even happen because it was such a dream -- which also kind of makes me sad. But alas, all wedding days will come and go so what matter is not how much you spend it truly is HOW YOU FEEL.
In this episode, I want to help out my fellow Brides, Bride-to-Be's, Maid of Honor's, Mom's, future Brides etc. with a few ideas and regrets about my wedding day. Tune in to hear some DETAILS and inside scoop on our day.

One of my biggest priorities in uniform is doing my best to remain feminine + confident. Whether on a ship or running around in an office in boots, the usually last thing you feel is “beautiful.” There are always little, tiny things you can do to keep yourself feeling confident. It’s important boost your personal morale no matter where you're serving in the fleet.
Starting back to when I was a plebe (freshman) at the Naval Academy in 2010, I looked for creative ways to feel feminine + girly in uniform while still maintaining military standards.
In this weeks @missunderstood.podcast episode I’m sharing 12 years worth of tips in under 20 mins so you can start feeling more feminine + confident NOW! Whether it’s decorating your desk at the Naval Academy, wearing colorful sneakers, good smelling lotions, or nail colors — I’m sharing it all. It's all about making YOU feel your best at ALL times. The little things matter!

We’ve read your questions, we’ve seen your DMs, we have answered your calls & FINALLY best friend Jackie & I are hitting the mics to discuss this HOT topic: what’s it like dating as a woman in the military? In this episode, we are sharing our personal experiences + what is most misunderstood about women as we approach dating in our careers. Not surprisingly, many of you want to know this! We get it. Our lifestyle, standards, routine, + experience is very different in the dating scene because we chose a life serving in the military. Much similar to any male-dominated field, Jackie + chat about how we’ve navigated hard conversations, break ups, looking for red flags, + setting our standards for men. Yes, there are red flags you can look for early on if you’re dating a partner who is not supportive of your career. Tune in to this vulnerable episode + take this advice as though you’re having a glass of wine with your besties. “I don’t have time” or “you can’t possibly do it all” — I hear these excuses often when others talk about why they aren’t pursuing their passions or interests. I have always refused to accept these as fact, even since I was a kid. I am who I am because I am not afraid to dive into my interests, learn from new experiences, prioritize my passions, + make time for a life outside of my military career.
This week on @missunderstood.podcast I’m sharing how I #DOBOTH, how I prioritize my multi-passionate lifestyle while still maintaining sustained superior performance in my career. It is possible to have a fulfilling + passionate life, I want to help teach you how. In this episode, I’ll teach you tools to help you organize your multi-passionate life through prioritization, communication, color-coding (yes!), and time managment. — Love this episode? —Follow @missunderstood.podcast + @itskellierene on Instagram for episode updates + more. NEWSFLASH: you CAN do Both! Time + time again, I am approached by so many incredible service members online who are fighting to the stigma that claims you should NOT have passions while serving active-duty. I fervently believe that hobbies + passions outside your role in the military not only makes you a better leader but a better human (which ultimately makes you a better service members altogether). Dr. Corinne Devin agrees + is on this episode describing in DETAIL how she has built an incredible career in the #navy while still being a multi-passionate woman. Dr. Corinne Devin is a triple crown holding beauty queen and a U. S. Naval officer. She is a Navy Commander, orthodontist, and public speaker with a passion for volunteering. Currently stationed in Japan, Corinne is returning to California upon concluding her active duty in 2023. While in residency, Corinne competed and won the title Ms. Texas, then after graduating won Ms. United States 2012, internationally won Ms. Galaxy 2014, Ms. Earth 2018 and International Ms. 2020. She continued to balance her two passions, serving as the keynote speaker at the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Conference to over 1,000 middle school girls for the Department of Defense in Japan and Italy. She believes that being well rounded in a multitude of areas can inspire, motivate, and place the seed of determination into our youth and their peers. IT'S SEASON 3 + YES, I'M STILL MISSUNDERTOOD. But, if I wasn't -- would I even need a podcast?? Whether it's about my navy career, appearance, online platform, or just doing something different than most, I've learned that being different is OKAY + to stay focused using my "eyes."
E - embrace your best qualities and celebrate them.
Y - yesterday's negativity does not have to effect today's positivity.

That's a wrap 2021!! That's right, it's time for another Finale of MissUnderstood + I'm wrapping up Season 2! It's hard to believe it's already time tof finish up another series + prepare for another.
I call 2021 the year of the unexpected: I had a unexpected move across the country, career change, build a life in a new city, was challenged both personally + professionally, + grew from it all. It truly was 12 months of the unexpected, with new challenges every week, but looking back became one of the most transformative years of my adult life.
In this episode, I'm breaking down how you'll grow for the unexpected too, how to handle it, and why change can be the best thing for you in these 5 steps:
Do the Scary Thing
Why Humility will make you Better
Remember your Purpose
Grow through what you GO through
Set Boundaries for yourself as you Continue to Build the life you Want!
At first, I was disappointed that season 2 only 15 new episodes of @missunderstood.podcast, but when I reflected on the year I just had, I'm dang proud of my focus + ability to continue balancing both. Even if it does mean 15 new episodes instead of 50. Here's to a BIG year ahead and a BIG year behind me. I can't wait to see you guys in 2022 + continue sharing this journey with you! Thank you to my amazing listeners and the thousands of you who continue to tune in! See you in Season 3!

How often do you feel like your criticized for your passions, hobbies, your personality -- sometimes, just being you? We feel the same. Often as women in the military there's a misunderstanding that we need to prove that were equals, prove our worth, maybe even suppress our personality to be taken seriously. Jackie and I are talking + sharing advice on how to embrace your unique abilities as women, regardless of your career choice, and feel confident to be authentic to your personality while leading. As "influencers," Jackie + I face a lot of negativity, critics, and others telling us to change the way we choose to share our stories online. In this episode, Jackie and I are sharing coffee + telling all about how to embrace your authentic self in the workplace. We want to empower you to not just feel confident in or out of uniform, but confident in all the passions you choose to pursue. Do you often get frustrated when you measure you body? Do you find yourself in between sizes? Do you feel underrepresented in magazines or online? This is exactly what we’re attacking today: learning to embrace the skin you’re in + set aside societal standards. I first met Professional model Brittany Carel during the Sports Illustrated online swim search + instantly felt drawn to her body positivity, confidence, + transparency. She explains how she battled a series of scrutiny in the start of her career to be “smaller” or to tape at a specific size in order to “get serious work” in the industry. She later embraced her body, representing a size that’s in between industry size zero + curve. In today’s episode, she’s teaching you how to not listen to the criticism of others + find happiness in your own skin while still chasing your dreams. // Want to know more about Brittany, here’s her background “Hi I'm Brittany, 25 from South Fl now living here in LA. I'm a professional model, and actress I've been working 10 years in the Miami, New York and LA markets. I work to inspire others, to make others feel good about themselves in their own skin. I represent the in-between model size or what I like to call happy medium. I want young girls to feel good about their body. My goal is to promote a healthy body image in the media.” Follow her on Ig @brittanycarel for more body positivity + inspiration!
The LITERAL queen is on the podcast this week: reigning Miss America 2020, Camille Schrier. She’s unique, smart, authentic, sassy, + not afraid to stay true to herself. When I watched Camille win Miss America back in December 2019, she truly stuck out to me because of her ingenious science demonstration on stage — something that had never been done before in pageant history. Since, I’ve followed her on social media in awe of her relatability + drive. Tune in to hear how she won (on her first try ever !!), who has supported her, how she’s stays authentic, + why being a queen is not really about the crown. // (bio provided by MissAmerica.Org) Camille Schrier, 24, grew up In Bucks County, Pennsylvania, before moving to Virginia to pursue her undergraduate degrees. In 2018, Camille graduated with honors from Virginia Tech with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Systems Biology, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University.
In June of 2019, Camille was named Miss Virginia after breaking from tradition to perform the “catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide” as her onstage talent. Her unique talent performance and focus on women in STEM has sparked a positive reaction of inclusivity for the program as a whole. Camille’s story has been shared with hundreds of children and viewed by millions. She can be seen on national and international media outlets including The Today Show, Talk Stoop, CNN, BBC, The Kelly Clarkson Show, CBS This Morning, Inside Edition, The Weather Channel, Southern Living, Canada’s CTV, Germany’s RTL, and many more.
On December 19, 2019, Camille earned the job of Miss America 2020 after competing live on NBC from Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

How many times in your life have you failed? Maybe you got last place in a race? Maybe you failed a test? Maybe you didn’t get into the school you wanted, or was fired from a job you liked, OR maybe you placed runner-up in a pageant instead of winning?
Typically, we fail + think life is over but then after a significant amount of time later you look back + think “if that hasn’t happened ALL of this great stuff wouldn’t have come from it.” That’s exactly what I’m talking about on the podcast today with my best friend, sister, model, + 3x 1st RUNNER-Up at Miss Ohio USA, Mariah Payne.
Mariah has faced constant rejection both personally, professionally as a model, + in the pageant world. A self proclaimed “biggest looser,” Mariah talks all about why her “failures” have really made her a winner. Wedding Day’s are beautiful, loving, wonderful, and … STRESSFUL! You might think that as long as you have an incredible Maid of Honor + Wedding coordinator that there’s no need to bring others onboard to keep your day on schedule. Wrong!! As a former wedding photographer trained by my mentor, Brant Bender, I learned from him that your photographer can actually play a huge role in keeping your day moving accordingly. You may not realize it, but most of your day will be centered around when you’ll be getting your picture taken. After all, that is WHY you’re paying to have a photographer there + also photos will be all you’ll have once the day is over. In this episode, my mentor + wedding photographer (!!) Brant Bender + I will be diving into everything you need to think about to build your perfect wedding day timeline. From start to finish, this is a great tool to ensure your day goes smoothly. Brant Bender began as a photojournalist with his hometown newspapers and United Press International. Brant was trained to anticipate the next move and act swiftly to capture the most critical moments of an event. But as Brant's photography career progressed, he found his true passion in capturing the love and excitement of weddings and family portraits. For over 15 years he's been focused on just that: creating stunning images that families will cherish for generations. Not only does he have an artful eye for composing beautiful classic photographs, with attention to the tiniest details, but he has a true talent for editing and enhancing wedding and family images to bring out the colors, emotions, and special touches that give its unique flair.

An episode dishing out ALL the biggest misunderstandings I just HAD to put it in the title: I have MISS Indiana USA, Alexis Lete, on the show this week + she’s spilling all the biggest realities behind behind a pageant queen + title holder. As a former “pageant girl” (do you ever really stop being a pageant girl) 2x finalist + runner-up at Miss California USA, there’s so much about pageant both the public + those competing don’t understand. Alexis + I are getting into our top 5 reasons of what we think is MissUnderstood about competing in pageants + everything in between. If you think it’s all about a ball gown, heels, + perfect spray tan — leave these thoughts at the door. Special “thank you” to Alexis Lete for coming on this episode! Love her? "You're in the Navy?! Why did you join the Navy" -- I hear this questions a minimum of 3x a week, maybe more. I joined the Navy July 1st, 2010 + it's been a crazy 10 years of unexpected moves, connects, friends made and friends lost, + everything in between. Although I came from a Navy family + extensive Navy background, that isn't ultimately why I joined the Navy. To this day, I forget that choosing a career in the Navy is something really rare and incredible. The longer I choose to stay in active-duty as a Naval Officer, the more I realize that dedicating your life to a career of Naval Service really is something to celebrate. In this episode, I'm real, raw, transparent, and addressing all the rumors, reasons, and all-things regarding my Navy Journey so far. A lot of you think "I couldn't do it" not me, but you'll find our stories and reason may be more similar than you think. I don't see the Navy as who I am, I see it as what I do, it's the aspects of the Navy--service, tradition, dedication--which has led me to become who I am today. Tune in to hear how the Navy changed my life and why I'd do it all over again.

Starting a business seems IMPOSSIBLE. Growing a business seems TASKING. Only one of those statements is true. Having and grown a business is tasking, it takes a lot of work, networking, constant energy, BUT it's not impossible. I've got an extra episode this week on MISSUNDERSTOOD and I'm talking to the owner of Skin & Sugar, Top Rated Skin Spa in Columbus, who started her business in 2017 which has now grown to two storefronts and over 4k clients. She is the definition of "boss babe" and building from the ground up. In this episode, Sarah talks about how she started a completely new career at 29, developed a booming business while pregnant, and now balancing multiple employees, multiple storefronts in Columbus, and a booming business. She maps out how she started, what has worked, why it's important to nail down what you DON'T want, and most importantly why YOU are the most important part of your brand. Sarah vision for skincare has always been more than just helping clients have better skin, but to create personal relationships where clients want to come because it's more than a service, it's an experience. Her passion and love for Skin & Sugar makes it what it is. Tune in to hear how she turned a single-suite business with no clients to a business with over 4,000 in UNDER three years. Love having this dear friend on the show and so proud to watch this woman continue to grow and thrive. ______________ Website: https://www.skinandsugar.co/ Contact Information for Sarah: @skin_and_sugar Thank you "Hatch" for producing this episode! SUPRISE!! -- That's a bit sarcastic. If you've been following me at all on my personal Instagram account @kellierenehall, this episode is actually NOT a surprise. I've been competing in the Sports Illustrated (SI) Swim Search since August 3rd, 2020 with the hope of catching the eye of the SI staff. I came into this search with the goal of spreading my platform, inspiring women, but I had NO IDEA that this process would cultivate both a sisterhood and community of people who are looking to do the same.
In this episode, I'm sitting down with two other Sports Illustrated hopefuls who I instantly connected with at the beginning of this journey: Summer + Mandy. We came into this search with such different motivations + reasons, yet we've supported each other + developed such a strong bond which we could have never anticipated.
Tune in to hear WHY we decided to do the Swim Search, what it means to us, what drives us, + what has kept us going in the months since it began. Thank you to Summer + Mandy for taking the time to open their hearts to me + #missunderstood, + good luck to my ladies in the search!!

THE QUEEN HAS ARRIVED!! I have "my" queen, MISS CALIFORNIA USA, on the podcast today + It's very special to me because I'm her runner-up! Allyshia + I competed in MISS CALIFORNIA USA 2020 Back in January together + it's been such a wild ride since. Now, she's currently in Memphis, Tennessee preparing to take the stage for MISS USA on Monday, November 9th. This is the FIRST (and very overdue) conversation we've shared since the competition + it's transparent as well as hilarious.
In this episode, Allyshia + I take a walk down memory lane as we discuss some of favorite moments from competing in MISS CA USA this year, meeting each other, final moments before the announcement of the winner, + what it's been like for her through the pandemic. "Allyshia likes to say she’s a walking example of why you should never judge a book by its cover. Despite the blonde hair and blue eyes, Allyshia is half Indian and originally born in England," -- we get into exactly why she's more than a crown + what she's learn through this year of adversity while being a titleholder.
Allyshia migrated to the United States with her single mother when she was only a few years old. She spent her childhood growing up on a rural farm in Florida where she developed a passion for equestrian sport. When she wasn’t on a horse, Allyshia was working at her family restaurant where she credits her strong work ethic, commitment to serve, and people skills too! At 15, Allyshia left home to attend a European boarding school where she obtained advanced level qualifications in business, psychology, and philosophy of religion and science. She then returned to the states and started her own business before matriculating at Auburn University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and entrepreneurship.
After university, Allyshia chased a career in media and landed her first job working for ABC network in Los Angeles, CA, where she currently resides with her English bulldog, Bentley. Allyshia is passionate about female empowerment- specifically in business and entrepreneurship and has her own non-profit organization, Care to Create, which supports this agenda as well as various other causes close to Allyshias heart. Before entering Miss California USA, Allyshia had waited 8 years to naturalize and become a US citizen, allowing her to be eligible for the competition. Allyshia hopes to inspire others to chase their dreams because she believes that everyone can achieve their fairytale ending if they work hard enough for it.
Tune in to meet your MISS CA USA 2020 + cheer her on as she takes the MISS USA stage!

Selfishly, I wanted to know all of these questions too - but I saved them for the podcast! We are still absolutely on cloud 9 + so grateful for everyone's sweet messages + well wishes.

"She's Beautiful" --that may be the first thing to come to mind when you see a photo of MISS TEXAS USA 2020, Taylor Kessler. If you've learned anything about the women of MISS USA it's that they're all more than a pretty face. Taylor, specifically, has overcome, adapted, and evolved through the adversities in her own life.
I reached out to Taylor initially because, after following her on social media since the inception of her reign in August 2019, she seems like the most confident woman in the world. "How did she do it?" i thought, I needed to know how she built her confidence overtime. Turns out, she's faced an incredible amount of emotional tragedy and overcome unbelievable: domestic violence.
In this episode, Taylor shares with us her emotional personal story, how she overcame domestic violence, and later rediscovered her confidence. I'm so incredibly proud of this woman and love being able to share her powerful story with the world, with the hope of encouraging other young men and women who are in situations of domestic violence.
Taylor graduated with a double major in Communications and Broadcast Production. Fluent in American Sign Language, this former competitive athlete set her sights on joining the NFL as a sideline reporter, and she is an intern at GALvanize, Women in Sports. Serving as host and emcee for the ALL American Bowl on NBC put Taylor on the radar with a few NFL teams beforeCovid19 struck. Not to be “sidelined,” Taylor set out to obtain her Real Estate license, which will double her impact: allowing her to sell you your home on Saturday and sell you sports on Sunday! Taylor is an active volunteer with various organizations including Houston Area Women’s center, Saafe House and Jamie’s Hope to name a few.
Tune in to hear the powerful story of MISS TEXAS USA 2020, Taylor Kessler, and why she's essentially the "titleholder" for "Miss Understood." Follow Taylor's journey to MISS USA as she competes for the title on FYI network live, November 9th.

I record episodes week by week hoping to inspire each of you -- this week I sat back and thought, "how well do my listeners really know me?" I know you all know a lot about me because, well, I'm chatty and I tend to talk about myself on these podcasts--but, do you REALLY know me? My background? My history? Why I am the way I am?
As I always say, I'm the "queen of being misunderstood," so in this episode I'm diving into a few more. There are three specific things I feel like I'm very misunderstood about: people think I'm super cool, people think I'm a great at dating, and people think I'm super smart. Okay, these people aren't TOTALLY wrong, but, they're also not TOTALLY right.
I don't come from a background of being super cool, dating a ton, or being a genius. I come from a background of being the nerdy kid in class, loving theater, not getting asked to homecoming or prom, and reallllly struggling through the Naval Academy. Life didn't come easy, but that's why I have a lot of lessons to deliver now!
Listen in, this is your chance to get to know me better. I want you guys to have a better understanding of ME! Here I am: transparent and #missunderstood.

"If you are in the Navy you can't have any other passions OUTSIDE the Navy"--do you want to know how many times I've heard this? More than I can count. Is it true? Absolutely not. Serving active-duty does NOT mean you need to sacrifice who you are and all of your passions. You CAN do both, but you have to do so strategically, delicately, and be very thorough when you do so.
In this episode, I'm sitting down with Arabia Shanklin, Navy Lieutenant and Actress, who is an expert at balancing both her service to country and professional acting career. We are digging into our tips as to how you can, too, balance both your career in service (or maybe your full time job in general!!) with your outside passions. Grab your notebooks, we've got 10 tips for you.
LT Arabia Shanklin serves as an Human Resource Officer at Navy Region Southwest and performs as a professional TV/Film Actress in San Diego California. She graduated from USNA in 2013 with a B.S. in Economics.
Arabia commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer and served with Sailors and Marines aboard USS SIMPSON (FFG 56), USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41), I Marine Expeditionary Force, and as the Flag Aide for Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group THREE. Arabia has deployed to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Gulf.
She has been featured in VOGUE Magazine as one of this generation’s trailblazing black servicewomen and is highlighted in the “Proudly She Served” traveling art exhibit honoring military women who exemplify courage, strength, and selfless service. Arabia recently won the 2020 “Best Actress of San Diego” award by Black San Diego Magazine.

What's keeping you from your passions? Truly, think about it, what is keeping you from your passions that you CAN NOT control? I'll bet you most of what is keeping you from your passions is something you can control or something you can START to control: money, time, + confidence. Often we say we don't have "enough" of each; we don't have "enough" money, or "enough" time, yet somehow we make time to watch tv or we spend $100 dollars at Target--there IS an opportunity to have time + money for your passions if you allow. Often we don't realize that confident is a CHOICE + we've got to take the scary steps first in order to have a real shot of enjoying our biggest passions.
In this episode, I'm going to dig in to each area + why you need to stop making excuses + start diving into what's going to make you take steps toward a + happy + healthier life. I'm sharing personal experiences from my life + others, all of which stopped making excuses + took time to carve out time for the things that made them happiest.
If you stopped making excuses--what would you be doing?

Learning to market yourself is an incredibly important skill. Whether you're building a business, partaking in a competition, building a blog, a social media following, or gathering awareness for a social following you need to learn the skills necessary to market yourself to brand your platform. I have spent the better part of the last two years dedicating my career to social media research in recruiting, tracking + following which methods work to build a personal brand in order to connect with your audience. I have used this knowledge to not only gain a competitive advantage professionally to recruit medical students into the Navy, but also to market myself in the MISS USA state competitions on social media, as well as build a social media following + connect with businesses.
In this episode, I'm teaching you everything I've learned + implemented in order to build a personal brand on Instagram. The term "brand" is widely overused, but also underestimated. If you nail your personal brand you are eligible to nail incredible brand deals, social media audiences, followings, + gain competitive advantages on almost any stage.
Grab a pen + paper, this is a quick but detailed one.

Stop just focusing on finding a guy to settle down with! There are others of your life that deserve your focus too!
You're not put on this earth just to find a man + get married. I am a strong believer that God placed us on earth not just to find a partner, but to build a life on our own, make an impact, love others, + build a foundation of self-confidence before a relationship takes priority.
With this, I'm teaching you about ALL the things you can focus on when you're single + dating isn't going the want you want. Maybe you've had a rough dating streak, maybe you've just been dumped, maybe you can't seem to find "Mr. Right" -- there's a whole lot more to focus on than just dating. In this episode, I'm teaching you about 5 things I focused on while I was single + why I'm so much happier now (esp now that I have a serious relationship) that I devoted my time to other areas of my life besides just dating.
My 5 tips?
Do something Scary
Make new Friends/ Plan Trips with Current Friends
Feel Sexy in your Skin
Make your list of Non-Negotiables
Build Confidence without a Guy

Have you taken a second to sit back + assess your friendships? You this this is harsh, weird? It's not. Who you are giving your time, energy, money, + soul to should be people who are worth it. There's a huge misunderstanding that you can't see the "handwriting on the wall" in friendships, but you absolutely can.
In this episode, I'm going to identify specifically what the differences are in the "green flags" + "red flags" are in friendships, as well as describe how there are different levels to friendship. There are the women you can talk reality TV + comment on each others instagram, there are women who you share intimate details about your life + relationships, + then there are your "core" women, your sisters, who you trust unconditionally. These levels help navigate where you can place your heart + trust into, + those who earn the spot in the core.
Let's assess the "red" + "green flags" in friendships so you can start dedicating your time + energy to those who deserve it most. Let's set the record straight + detox those toxic people together.

If you have dabbled in small business on any level, you know it is pretty dang hard to build it from the ground-up. Did you find the right business partner? Investors? How do you design a logo? Do I need to have a storefront? There are so many questions that fill your mind from the start, so where do you begin? In this episode, I have two amazing entrepreneurs, Brandy Gambill + Abby Feeney, who have spent the last decade building Bliss Tans together. The #1 Spray Tanning Salon in Columbus, Ohio, Bliss Tans has grown from a business on the road, spray tanning out of a tiny closet in a salon, to seeing hundreds of clients a week. These women knew how to narrow their focus to reach specific clients + nailed down their brand, working together seamlessly in the process. We're diving into just how difficult it is to build a business + why finding the right business partner is so important. These women have branded, re-branded, + redesigned until they found the brand that WORKED! Tune in to find out how they build their business, brand, + to get a better understanding of what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur. Love bliss? Check them out on instagram @blisstans or online www.blisstans.com/shopbliss.
About Bliss: In 2013, friends Brandy and Abby met while working at a yoga spa in downtown Columbus. While both ladies enjoyed what they were doing, they both had a passion for the beauty industry and especially owning their own business some day. While their friendship blossomed, so did the idea of creating a spray tanning brand like none other in Columbus. Many months of research and countless hours later, BLISS airbrush tanning was born! Brandy and Abby pride themselves on having a brand that focuses on quality, affordability and superior customer service you won’t find anywhere else. Both ladies made it their priority to offer the highest quality tanning products to their clients and didn’t settle until they found exactly that. All BLISS products and tanning solutions are cruelty free, 100% vegan and offer the most natural and organic ingredients possible. BLISS is designed for everybody and every body and makes it their mission to create an experience that leaves you feeling confident and ready to take on this crazy world we live in!
I bet you're thinking "modeling is just about looking pretty in front of a camera," maybe you're right, but also very wrong. It ISN'T just about being pretty in front of a camera, as a model you learn to embrace YOU, something that is hard for a lot of women (+ men) to reflect + find. I found modeling when I was 24, with no idea what to expect + what I'd learn. 4 years later I'm so thankful for the experiences I've had because it's contributed largely to the woman I am today.
In this episode, I'm setting the record straight on how modeling changed me, elevated my confidence, + made me a better leader. My journey didn't start because of vanity but because of my continuous quest to develop personally. Don't think modeling + the Navy go hand-in-hand? Your right again! They absolutely don't: different fields, different industries, different kinds of people. But, the qualities I walked away with as a model have now instilled a kind of leadership I'll always be proud of. Tune in to see why + let's see how the stigma of being a model is often misunderstood.

Ever think "how did that woman get all that confidence?" Yeah, me too, all the time. When I saw Monique Evans for the first time this was the kind of reaction I had, which Is why I had to have her on the podcast to explain just how she derived all the confidence she exudes from her experiences.
Not sure how to make changes in your every day life to build confidence? In this episode, Monique + I have an honest conversation about little actions to make every day, why traveling is so important, how the mind + body are connection, + how to be kind to your mind. There are so many things that are misunderstood about taking care of your mental health + Monique explains all.
Monique Evans is a Naples, Florida native who spends her free time dancing on her toes as a professionally trained ballerina. A graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Nutritional Science with a medical certificate she is using her love of science in her career as a psychiatric specialty pharmaceutical representative. She believes there is a mind body connection and daily healthy habits are key to overall health but also realizes we need to be understanding of those with mental illnesses. When not making an impact in the community, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling the globe, scuba diving, wakeboarding and walking her two dogs Bear and Cub.

Did I just lose my best friend?! --That's what you're thinking. Your best friend has a new boyfriend, just like that, your life is over. Or is it? Maybe you completely approve of him, but where does this leave you? Maybe you think he's the devil's cousin? Regardless, when your best friend has a new boyfriend, you've got to learn to navigate your new role starting from a foundation of self-reflection + respect.
In this episode, I'm diving into how YOU (yes, you!!) are in charge of how you respond to your BFF's new man. Just because time will be spent different doesn't mean your relationship will be completely different. There's a huge misunderstanding that life just cannot be the same if your favorite girl has a new priority, but this also means you have an opportunity to form new ones as well. Maybe your schedule isn't filled with as many bachelor viewing parties as it did before, but now you have an opportunity to spread your wings in other relationships + opportunities.
I'm speaking from experience in this one, as both the person who had to sit back + adjust to my best friend's new man, but also as the woman who found her man + became frustrated with her friends reactions along the way. I don't want to see you lose your best friend, I want to help you navigate a new chapter in your life where you can be both happy for her + thrive on your own.

Have you been dating over over a decade yet you feel like you keep yielding the same results? You find yourself getting stood up, ghosted, maybe you loose interested in the guy you're seeing time + time again. Often they just stop texting or calling, you think "maybe their phone got disconnected or they dropped it in a puddle," but really the relationship just started to fizzle. What are YOU doing wrong?
We can't change men, but we can change the way we approach dating them. I was on the dating scene from 16-26, 10 solid years of hilarious stories, men cancelling on me last minute, loosing interest after 2 dates, + finding the "love of my life" just to hear that he's "not ready." After so many doors shut in my face, I decided to open a new one: FOCUSING ON ME!
In this episode, I'm diving into the top 3 mistakes I made when I was single, dating, + HOW the game changed when I fixed them:
1) Making Yourself too Available
2) Setting your Non-Negotiables Early
3) More faith, less Hope
As always, I'm here to have a heart to heart with you like a best friend sitting accross the table. Let's dive into these dating misunderstanding + set the record strait as to how we can take charge of our dating life.

"HOW DOES SHE DO IT?!" -- well, I'm telling-all.
Balancing pageantry doesn't have to be stressful, like many other things, making time for something you love is completely possible as long as it's approached with motivation, effort, time-management, + support. As many of you already know, pageantry "fell into my lap" while serving active-duty in the Navy as an Officer, navigating a move to a new city, + runner a part-time photography business. I never planned on competing in pageants annually until 2016, when I competed in MISS OHIO USA for the very first time + it changed my life.
Four 3 years + 4 competitions, I had to figure out how to navigate life in the Navy, family, a serious boyfriend, a business, recruiting, modeling, + working toward my dream of becoming MISS USA. Stressed yet? Yes, I get it! At one point I didn't know how I'd balance it all, until I realized all of my passions aligned + worked together to help me prepare for #MISS USA state competitions.
By the time I prepared for my final competition, MISS CALIFORNIA USA in January 2020, I truly felt like I had nailed down exactly how to not only prepare, but win + represent, as MISS CALIFORNIA USA. Yes, I never won, but I did place first runner-up + still celebrate my ability to balance it all.
In this episode, I'll walk you through how I learned to navigate pageantry with a full-time career + why you need to stop making excuses for NOT pursuing your passions even with your demanding life.

On July 1, 2010 Jackie + I entered the Naval Academy on Induction Day, or "I-Day," raised our right hand, took the oath, + entered into the Navy. At the time we were both only 17, without any idea of what was ahead or how the service academy--and serving our country--would develop us into leaders. If you're about to embark on an exciting change in position, a promotion, or maybe you've been serving in the military for awhile, this episode will shed new light on ideas + how to develop your leadership style.
In this episode, we're celebrating a milestone in our lives: 10 years since we entered the US Naval Academy (USNA) + 10 years we've been best friends. Jackie + I met on our very first day at USNA + truly have never stopped supporting each other since. We're diving into TEN lessons we've learned in leadership over these last 10 years, whether it's from going to a Service Academy or experiences in the fleet, we've been challenged, frustrated, failed, succeeded, + learned a lot about ourselves along the way. As both Naval + Marine Corps Officers, we've learned how to adapt + overcome to many obstacles, continue to grow in facets of leadership, + hope to share a few inspiring lessons from our hearts to yours.

I've heard it a million times: "Kellie you're so LUCKY you have all these friends!" Well, HUGE misunderstanding here, it's not luck! It's a lot, a lot of work to meet new people! A lot of you don't even know where to begin--how do you meet people? Where do you even start? I've got the answers for you.
I've moved 10 times in my lifetime which means I've had to reinvent the wheel to meet new people. In this episode, I speak on how I won "Miss Congeniality" in every pageant I participated in, why Bumble hired me on as an employee because of my methods, + 5 ways YOU can meet women too. Call me unconventional, but these methods have proved to work in my life.
We are living in life post-quarantine: Challenge yourself to go out of your comfort zone and apply these steps to meet other women: you never know who you'll connect with!
Apps I mention in this podcast: Bumble BFF (@BUMBLE), Meet Up, Eventbrite.

You're in the military but frustrated you can't find a mentor, you want to move up in rank--but where do you start? Reality check: YOU are going to have to do the heavy lifting, it's time to start utilizing your resources.
Moving up in the ranks of the US Navy is incredibly prestigious, but also very hard. Anyone who has spent time in the military knows that you can't just sit around + expect a promotion, you have to work for it, but the misunderstanding lies in exactly where you need to focus your effects + how you can navigate programs, education, mentors, time in service, + performance in order to excel + promote in the Navy.
I have the MOST SPECIAL guest on the show for a special Father's Day episode: you guessed it, MY DAD!
If you follow me on my Navy Instagram account @lieutenanthall you've seen me share time + time again about my Father. I'm already incredibly biased to think he's amazing, but as I've grown in my career in the Navy I've realized just how REMARKABLE he is. He enlisted in the Navy as a Seaman Recruit (E-1) in 1990 + recently was selected as the Navy's newest Captain (O-6) as of last week. Going from E-1 to O-6 is a HUGE DEAL--but how did he do it? This man knows everything there is about squeezing the Navy of it's opportunities, networking, + learning the ropes of each milestone in order to promote.
This episode is a mentorship opportunity from my Dad, to you. Don't just take advantage of it, APPLY it.
Happy Father's Day to Captain-Select, Billy F. Hall Jr. You are the reason I am the woman + leader I am today.

You've just committed to the most challenging, exciting, intimidating career-path of your life: the Navy.
Now that you've committed + enlisted, you've comissioned + are heading to ODS, maybe you're selected for an Officer program + on your way to OCS, or maybe you're heading to the most incredible University in the country (I'm not bias), The US Naval Academy--now how do you prepare?!
That's right, you have to PREPARE before you ever arrive. Signing the dotted line + committing was the hardest part, but from this point forward, it doesn't exactly get easier. YOU chose to challenge yourself, you CHOSE to set yourself up for a better life. So now, you've got to take the heat if or get out of the kitchen (or insert another navy metaphor). You absolutely MUST start preparing for boot camp, plebe summer, Officer Candidate School (OCS), or Officer Development School (ODS) or the culture shock will have you floored + worse, acting like a "civilian" upon arrival.
In this episode, I'm laying out what you need to know. I'm consistently asked: how do I prepare for Plebe Summer? How do I prepare for boot camp? So I wanted to recap a few of my tips + list your priorities before you ever step foot in a Navy installation. I graduated from the Naval Academy so our plebe summer (our version of boot camp) is different that OCS, ODS, or boot camp -- but I've worked as a recruiter for the last 4 years + the concept of becoming a sailor and Officer is still the same. You need to focus on what will make you an asset to the Navy + uphold our core values of honor, courage, + commitment.

Are you a naturally compassionate person? Are you trying to understand others perspectives, mindset, experience, but don't know how to navigate the conversation with a stranger or even those closest to you? The #BlackLivesMatter movement has erupted the voices of so many who never felt heard--are you taking the time to listen?
In this episode, I wanted to share advice on how to start opening your heart to other people. We all come from unique backgrounds, experiences, households, + truly have an opportunity to grow from each other, yet, sometimes we still find ourselves close-minded to the views of others. As a white woman who has grown up all over the world, I consider myself a naturally open, loving person with an excitement to learn about people. People are what fuel my heart + my growth, without conversations with others I would have never learned compassion. I want to help YOU learn how to discuss the experiences, backgrounds, faith, + motivation with others + find out why they are the way they are in the hope it'll help your own heart grow.
I want to invite you to an honest conversation about LISTENING + LEARNING from each other. Are you listening as much as you are talking?

How often do you receive negative comments online? Do you have moments when you're actually afraid to post, take your account off private, or fear retaliation from followers if you share something vulnerable, different, or unconventional? Yes, I've been there. If getting attacked online was a city, I'd be the Mayor. When you start anything new, the biggest fear you face is the reaction others will have. That fear is implemented online as well: it's so easy for others to comment negatively online than to your face, so we live in a society that is more likely to attack you. How do you navigate constant criticism online?
In today's episode, I'm sharing all of my most vulnerable moments when I've been attacked on social media + how YOU can over come it. It's taken a long time for me to figure out how to get back up again, stand my ground, + be proud of the passions I'm pursuing. If you didn't have to worry about what others would say, how would you approach life? Let's navigate around the opinions of others + overcome the online bullies.
If you think navigating negative criticism online isn't in your control, you're misunderstood.

Do you work in a male-dominated field? Are you constantly battling with the stereotype of what's "expected" of women, how we "should" act, "should" look like, or the challenges we face as a minority?
In this episode, my Naval Academy roommate of four years, best friend of 10 years, + Marine Corps Captain Jackie Barnum is on the show + we're diving into many challenges we've faced as females in male-dominated organization. There are so many misunderstandings about how to look, act, address others, even talk in meetings + we want to encourage all women to find their seat at the table + SPEAK YOUR VOICE.
Captain Jackie Barnum is a 2014 graduate of the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD + now works as a Logistics Officer in the Marine Corps. She was previously stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 2 years before her tour in California + has previously deployed to the Philippines, Republic of Korea, + The United Arab Emirates. Currently nearing the end of her 2 year tour in California, Jackie will be returning to the East Coast for her next set of orders. She's a proud "Dog Mom" to rescue puppy, Ruby, + loves coffee, quoting the TV show "Friends," + inspiring others through her work in the Marine Corps.

We've either all heard it or ALL said it: "I just don't know how to start a business," or "It's just too hard to meet new people."
You're right, it IS hard, but it's not impossible. On today's episode I have powerhouse entrepreneur, speaker, Los Angeles-transplant, and business owner Zee Rojas on the show to dissect all the avenues of starting your own business, networking, + why you shouldn't give up on yourself.
Zee Rojas is a entrepreneur, marketing professional and world traveler. As Founder of Wild Hearts Agency, a social and lifestyle digital marketing, PR and collaborative agency based in Santa Monica, California, Zee uses creativity and insight to understand her client’s needs. She’s been featured in “The Little Brand Book” as one of twelve influential people making positive moves. She’s also a committee member for the Annual Los Angeles Zoo Gala.
When she’s not working, you can find Zee at the gym, planning her next international trip, supporting her friends ventures or finding good causes to volunteer her time to.
This incredible woman has A LOT to say + I'm so grateful she shared all the ways starting a business can be misunderstood.

I receive a multitude of questions on relationship advice: how do I personally navigate relationships or expectations? How did I find a partner + what were the standards I upheld before "settling down" with the man I thought was best suited for me? Oh + let's not forget my most FAQ, "How did you + Austin meet, tell us more about him!!"
I've got a special edition of #MissUnderstood podast in episode 11 - I'm letting you in on an inside look of your favorite host's (that's me!!) personal relationship with my long-term boyfriend, Austin Sbrocchi. Austin is #1 MOST requested guest to have on the show so I figured his birthday was a perfect time to share a tell-all about our relationship, how we met, + what we were looking for in a partner before we even met.
This episode isn't about following a certain number of steps or instructions to find your partner, it's about being transparent on how WE found each other + how we hope to inspire you to stay patient to find yours. You asked, now it's your turn to listen - enjoy this tell all as we discuss all the ways our relationship is misunderstood!

I'm going to be frank: you need to stop the signs when he's not right for you!
It's a huge misunderstanding that dating is "super difficult" + that men are "soooo complicated." As an experienced dater (pretending that's a word) + previous marketing lead for the popular social networking application "Bumble," I've learned a lot about what to + not to do in the dating world.
In this episode, I'm describing all my best dating app advice, profile advice, tips on when it's best to hop on a dating app + when Mr. Right just isn't the guy you're talking to right now. We've all been through it: we fail, we cry, we figure out how to get back up again. It's tough, it sucks, we don't understand why it's a necessary part of our journey. Tough luck, it's 100% necessary to fail in order to grow. We don't HOPE to fail, but when we do we learn, -- so does that mean we ever really failed to begin with?
In this episode I'm transparent, sassy, and emotional -- a winning combination-- but most of all, I want to ensure you walk away with reasons why you needed to go through the hard parts of life in order to grow. My personal experience in failure ranges from falling at a state track competition, to bombing college exams, to changing my career in the Navy, and finishing runner-up at MISS CALIFORNIA USA. I'll walk you through four reasons why failure is the best thing that's happened to you, because I've been through it too, and how to redefine what it means to "fail." Strap in, it's an emotional one. You'll walk away with not only a better understanding of my personal journey, but your own, and why you never really failed to begin with.

I know what you're thinking - "how does this apply to me??"
It might, it might not. Believe it or not, my MOST frequently asked question on social media is: "LT Hall, how do I improve my application to be competitive for the Naval Academy?" But if you are looking to perfect your application college, ROTC, the Naval Academy (USNA), or any Service Academy, it sure does. This episode is SPECIFICALLY for you guys.
As a once scared 16-year-old petrified of the process, to a graduate of the Naval Academy, now working as a navy recruiter I've learned a lot about what it means to be competitive to apply. It's often misunderstood that you need ONLY grades + high test scores to stand-out as an applicant. Becoming a Naval Officer is no easy task, in this episode I dive into EXACTLY what I think you need to do to improve your application + share my exciting (maybe even dangerous) experiences a long the way.
Interested in applying? Check out USNA Admissions for more information or contact me on my Navy Instagram for questions @lieutenanthall.
When you assume responsibility of any position, job, role, or title you naturally have to step up to the plate and fulfill expectations -- what do you do to overcome the pressure?

In today's episode, Alice dives into everything that's misunderstood about pageantry, holding a title, overcoming stigma, and digs into specifics about competing at MISS USA.
Her transparency is what every titleholder-hopeful and current reigning queen NEEDS to hear but also any woman who is trying to process how to overcome pressure in any area of life. Whether you are competing in a pageant or unsure how to navigate social pressure in your career, Alice's insight will help you steer clear of all misunderstandings.

We all do it: Compare.
We compare our lives to others, we measure our success against those around us, we fail to find value in our talents, skills, and honor our personal journey. I'm consistently asked "how did you get so confident?" Confidence isn't something you're born with, you have to build it over time.
Taking steps every single day to eliminate self-doubt and build confidence will help you lead a much more fulling life. In this episode, I'll map out a handful of go-to, useful methods to start trying TODAY and use weekly in order to get your confidence in a place where you feel ready to take on the world. Are you competing annually and never winning? Are you starting to plateau in all areas: personally and physically? Let's talk strategy. DIY methods are a thing of the past- if you're preparing for ANY kind of competition whether it's pageants, fitness, or sports you need to have professionals to mentor and coach you to reach your five-star best. Once upon a time I didn't believe in hiring help either, I thought I was disciplined enough and could do research on my own. But here's the thing: you're never going to get BETTER if you aren't doing anything DIFFERENT. In this episode, I interview Pageant Planet's #1 trainer of the year, Craig Hughes, and my personal coach for Miss California USA. Craig Hughes founded Body by Craig in April 2013 to provide top pageant competitors with the same individualized one-on-one training that elite athletes get with the goal of maximizing each pageant client’s fullest potential and competition results. We discuss why you need to challenge yourself to commit to professional training and how to set yourself apart from your competition.

We all do it: we ignore the tiny voice inside of us that tells us we can do MORE. Why are you waiting? Time is flying by, every minute we dismiss what we're meant for we're not learning new lessons, skills, or connecting with others.
In this episode, I dive into why I'm glad I decided to go against the status quo, start a photography business while active-duty on a ship, what I learned by facing my fears head on and digging into passions that would later build my career. I'll provide you with a few KEY ways to get started in your passion and connect with others and why you shouldn't be afraid to start something new.
Stop yourself from living with regret-- you think it's impossible to take you passion head on. I'll explain why you're misunderstood.

Welcome to my pilot episode! In this episode, I dive into the meaning behind my podcast "MissUnderstood" -- why I feel it's important to dissect the ways we feel misunderstood and how to grow from them. I discuss the ways I've felt the MOST misunderstood in my life, career, relationships, passions, and purpose and how to navigate around the opinions of others. I'll chat with you about life at the Naval Academy as a female, having my personality and femininity challenged, how I overcame the stigma of being a "pageant girl," why my passions made me a better Naval Officer, what it's like balancing multiple passions and how I grew from it all. Take time to reflect how we all feel the most misunderstood and why it makes us who we are. Let's dive in.
