Due to personal reasons, the release of the next PoC episode has been pushed back to Wednesday, June 24. We apologise for missing this week, but in its place, we would like to present to you the podcast, 'We The Unhoused'.
In many ways, this podcast gets to the very core of what the platform is all about. Podcasting has the ability to empower people through accessible technology. That accessibility and freedom allows for creative control over a product that highlights voices and personal experiences that would otherwise go unnoticed.
ABOUT PoC: SHOUT OUT
In the course of researching, every now and then, Olly and Gareth come across certain podcasts that we wish more people could hear. Some are obscure and some are more mainstream. Obviously, we are great fans of podcasting and want to spread the word as much as possible. So, we thought - why not do exactly that? Why not promote the very podcasts we think everyone should listen to? And so, PoC: SHOUT OUT was born.
ABOUT 'WE THE UNHOUSED'
We The Unhoused is a podcast that lifts the voices and struggles of the unhoused in LA and beyond. Host Theo Henderson is currently unhoused and resides in Chinatown, Los Angeles. He tackles issues such as police brutality, harassment, policy, and the survival challenges of unhoused people. Through a series of interviews, we will discuss issues that are germane to unhoused people like the cost of living, gentrification, health struggles, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care. The revolution will be heard on this podcast. Tune in each week to be a part of it.
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Amidst the uprising, Theo interviews Black Trans Organizer Chella Coleman, who experienced homelessness and currently sings in a band.

In this episode, Gareth and Olly look at the issues facing the people of the world's youngest nation, South Sudan.
Having fought for decades to obtain it's independence that finally became a reality in 2011; the tiny country was quickly plunged into civil only two years later as the President and Vice President fought over political power and oil. As always, those who were hurt the most were the most vulnerable, which in South Sudan, is the majority of the population.
Now that the fighting has mostly stopped, what remains is a country riddle with famine and poverty, created by conflict and compounded by climate change and the global impact of Covid-19. Organised crime is on the rise and a lucrative trade in children has made it exceptionally dangerous for both boys and girls to simply walk the streets. South Sudan has also seen the increased practice of families selling of their daughters for marriage to the highest bidder - sometimes even using Facebook to facilitate the sale.

For this SHOUT OUT episode, we decided to take a slightly different approach, giving you audio from two shows and a debate from 1953.
In the introduction, Gareth mentions that he thinks the Pentagon videos surfaced around 2019. They actually surfaced in 2017 and 2018.
From Vox https://www.vox.com/pages/podcasts
The Worldly team takes a break from the coronavirus doom and gloom to talk about some other big news: the Pentagon’s confirmation this week that it has, in fact, filmed at least three instances of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). They break down the footage, debate what the videos might actually show, talk about the Cold War history of US government investigations into UFOs, and explore how UFOs play into international relations and deeper concepts about religion and humanity. There’s also a surprise guest appearance at the very end! Oh, and LOTS of X-Files jokes.
From Coast to Coast AM with George Noorey http://www.coasttocoastam.com/article/pentagon-officially-releases-trio-of-historical-ufo-videos/
The Department of Defense has officially released the three videos of unidentified flying objects which have captivated the UFO research community and generated considerable media attention for the last two years. The tantalizing clips, which include the now-iconic 'Tic Tac video' (shown above), largely first came to light back in December of 2017 and March of 2018 by way of the landmark New York Times times piece on the Pentagon's secret UFO program and Tom DeLonge's To the Stars Academy. Since that time, something of a saga surrounding the videos has unfolded.

In this episode we look at the anti-lockdown protests that have swept across the United States throughout April. Why are people risking their health to take to the streets? Who are the people and groups organising these protests and what are their motivations? There is more happening here than meets the eye.
In Australia, we discuss the potential collapse of Virgin Australia which once went toe-to-toe with Qantas. If Virgin goes under it very well might be a bigger collapse than that of Ansett.
Also in Australia, a very good suggestion was made by Prime Minister Scott Morrison to give WHO experts the same powers as UN weapon inspectors. A great idea that will be difficult, if not impossible, to turn into a reality.
Also in this episode, a stupidest political news item will be hard to beat in 2020. And yes, it is only April.

Gareth and Olly deep dive into the World Health Organisation, which finds itself in hot water once again.
US President Donald Trump has suspended his countries contributions to the WHO, whilst others are calling for its complete shutdown. But, is this current round or criticism justified? Would reform be a better way to go? And who exactly is Donald Trump to criticise someone elses response to Covid-19?
Also in this podcast, the history of the WHO, how it is financed, misunderstandings of its powers and authority, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, scandals and corruption within the organisation, it's dealings with China and Taiwan as well as the US.
In this episode, Gareth and Olly talk about the legacy of Bernie Sanders now that his second run to become President has ended. They also talk about how Joe Biden stacks up against Donald Trump at the moment and speculate who might become Biden's running mate?
Covid-19 continues to dominate both the headlines and the lives of nearly everyone on the planet, with each part of the globe in different stages of their battle with the novel coronavirus. Gareth and Olly look at how the world is handling this fight as well as the fear of being a worker in the US, who has not only lost a job, but also health insurance in a time of pandemic.
And lastly, the biggest Australian news in the past fortnight was the High Court's decision to unanimously acquit Cardinal George Pell of all sex abuse charges. Gareth and Olly dive into the decision and try to make sense of the glaring contradiction - whilst the HCA ruled that there were grounds for reasonable doubt, the victim has also been believed. How can that be?

--- Politics Over Coffee receives no financial gain from this podcast. All rights remain with the podcast creator. --
https://samharris.org/podcasts/196-science-happiness/
In this episode of the podcast, Sam Harris speaks with Laurie Santos about the scientific study of happiness. They discuss people’s expectations about happiness, the experiencing self vs the remembered self, framing effects, the importance of social connections, the effect of focusing on the happiness of others, introversion and extroversion, the influence of technology on social life, our relationship to time, the connection between happiness and ethics, hedonic adaptation, the power of mindfulness, resilience, the often illusory significance of reaching goals, and other topics.
Laurie Santos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Yale University. She hosts the popular podcast The Happiness Lab and she teaches the most popular course offered at Yale to date, titled The Science of Well-Being. Laurie is also the director of the Comparative Cognition Laboratory and the Canine Cognition Center at Yale. Gareth and Olly talk about two historic, but radically different, events happening on opposite sides of the globe.
In Australia, fires are burning across the nation, heat records are being beaten twenty-four hours apart and people are dying. So, of course, Prime Minister Scott Morrison decided it was a good time to take a holiday with the family to Hawaii.
In the United States, Donald Trump becomes only the third President in US history to be impeached. Olly and Gareth break down the impeachment charges brought against Donald Trump, what happens next and dig into the partisan positions of both the Democrats and Republicans.

In this SHOUT OUT episode, we look at episode of KCRW's 'All The Presidents Lawyers'. A favourite of both Gareth and Olly.
SHOUT OUT info: https://www.politicsovercoffee.com/shout-out.html
LRC PRESENTS: ALL THE PRESIDENT'S LAWYERS: Quid pro quo Hosted by Josh Barro, Ken White Oct. 23, 2019
https://www.kcrw.com/news/shows/lrc-presents-all-the-presidents-lawyers/quid-pro-quo
In his testimony to Congress, William Taylor, the acting ambassador to Ukraine, described a quid pro quo: US military aid would be released to Ukraine if the Ukrainian president made a public statement pledging an investigation into Burisma. Ambassador Taylor heard that from someone on the National Security Council, and then he spoke with EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland, who clarified that “everything” depended on Ukraine complying with President Trump’s wishes about Joe Biden.
This seems important. What happens next? What about all the contradictions to Sondland’s testimony? And what’s going on with the investigation into the 2016 investigation?
Plus: more about the travails of Rudy Giuliani, Viennese pastries, and why the jury in Roger Stone’s trial won’t be able to watch The Godfather: Part II in court.

In the coming weeks, Gareth will be recording a follow up to that episode - a timely topic, considering the increase in far-right terrorism over the past few years.
But first, as a primer for the upcoming episode (and a throwback to our beginners), Gareth thought it was a good idea to repost the original episode - in all its amateurish (but still relevant)glory.

Welcome to the first episode of our new podcast, 'Politics Over Coffee: Around The World'. This show focuses on news from around the globe that would not normally feature on our main show, Politics Over Coffee*.
In this episode: Trump has reached his first 100 days - he even had a cake to celebrate - but has he been as impressive as he would have us believe? Obama is back and he is making coin with Wall St. Does this tarnish his legacy or does it even matter now he is a private citizen? Olly breaks down the recently announced Snowy 2.0 project and we cover trips to Mars, sexual assault, metadata abuses of power and theories on conspiracy theories.
In this episode: Tony Abbott listens to the pulse of the people, irony free. Alex Jones is a performance artist and the Herald Sun may have invented the Apex Gang for it's own political and social ends.
Gay men are once again being targeted for persecution and migrants are being sold as slaves. Elections are happening which may break the EU and the Dalai Lama (potentially the nicest 81 year old in the world) is causing the Chinese headaches - possibly because of his niceness.
What happened with Trump and Syria? What about Trump and Russia? We also chat about the latest on Trump v. Kim Jong Un.
Back in Australia, we chat Aussie values, 457 visas and citizen tests. The Safe Schools program is coming to an in NSW, but what of the complaints that have been brought up against religious instruction?
In this episode: All eyes are on Trump's response to the recent chemical weapons attacks in Syria. Is there more to this than what the media and Trump Administration are telling us? We look deeper into the Trump/Russia connection before heading back to Australia where Olly gives an update on the latest news. We also chat about Eric Abetz accidentally advocating for bisexuals, terror threats, Department of Finance videos, universal basic income, S-Town, membranes, emails and petty political insults. And of course, we rant!
In this episode: the American Health Care Act is dead on arrival. Obama did not tap Trump Towers - nor did the English and who is paying for the Mexican border wall? England suffered another tragic terror attack whilst Pauline Hanson used the event for self-promotion. Housing is expensive in Australia and Olly breaks down the latest developments. We have some very cool 'articles of interest', impressively stupid political news and angry rants.
Whether it's dismissing verbal abuse in the streets or creating vast conspiracy theories - power will do what ever it takes to protect itself.
In this episode: the Republican's Obamacare replacement lands with a thud. Jeff Sessions lied and Donald Trump goes deep down the rabbit hole to wage war on the Deep State. In Australia, the results of the Western Australian Election are in and the Department of Human Services doxed an Australian citizens. We also chat about traffic signals, the Knights of the Templar, bees, Marine Corp scandals and finish off with a rant!
Tony Abbott was in the news again with A five-point plan to save the Coalition. It did not go over well. We head to space for Articles of Interest as well as the Great Barrier Reef. Gareth went to see Julian Assange live (via video link) at the Melbourne Town Hall prompting a conversation about Wikileaks, Russia and Trump. The Fair Work Commission handed down it's ruling on Sunday penalty rates, so Olly and Gareth take a sledgehammer to the rationale behind such a decision. Also, Dick Smith acts like a dick and the government of Daniel Andrews in in trouble again. And we rant!
Having survived the Bowling Green Massacre (#neverremember) Olly and Gareth look at the depth of the lies being told by the Trump administration to justify their Muslim ban. A white Christian terrorist walked into a Quebec City mosque January 29 and killed six people. Gareth revisits his theory that beneath everything the connecting force driving all these tragedies is hate. In Australia, Scott Morrison pulled out a piece of coal in parliament, the LNP are still incorrectly blaming renewable energy for South Australia's energy woes, Pauline Hanson is okay with Vladmire Putin killing 38 Australians and Malcolm Turnbull unleashed on Bill Shorten. We also have stupid political news, articles of interest and of course, ranting. Oh, and a brief discussion on Twin Peaks.
It's our first episode of 2017 and there is so much going on. Tragedy in Melbourne. Malcolm Roberts and the invite that never was. Science. Tackling drug addiction. The debates surrounding Australia Day. The Centerlink debt collection debacle. Socialists are like alcoholics. And of course, the inauguration of Donald J. Trump.
It's the end of the year and we are here to try and make sense of 2016 whilst predicting what we think will happen in 2017 (good luck!) We have TWO stupid political articles and articles of interest. We have a bit of fun as we dedicate the second half of the show to cool news.
White-supremacists are emboldened, hate groups are energised and hate-speech is mainstream. Racism is once again having its day in the sun. Olly and Gareth talk about the rise of the alt-right, the racism of Pauline Hanson and the alarming sense of legitimacy currently felt by bigots. What can we do to bring reason in a world full of racial divide? We also talk about Australia’s complex and contradictory history with asylum seekers.
Olly knocks this episode out of the park as he and Gareth break down the US Election result! The outlook is not good with Trump heading to the White House. We also have 'Articles of Interest' and 'Stupid Political News'.
Round 1. FIGHT! In this episode we have: houses vs avocados, George Brandis vs Justin Gleeson, Abbott vs Turnbull and Trump vs Clinton. We also chat about 'water bears', the tragic death of Manmeet Alisher, 'devil tomatoes grown with witchcraft' and our stupid political news takes us back to the Philippines.
In this episode: the plebiscite is dead, but what now for marriage equality in Australia? Malcolm Turnbull is again facing questions about his leadership and George Brandis looks like he has mislead Parliament. In America, Donald Trump proves yet again what a sorry excuse for a human being he is, Hillary Clinton's transcripts are leaked and we watched the second presidential debate so you didn't have to. We also have 'stupid political news', 'articles of interest' and RANTING!
In this episode: we continue our stupid news article segment, in Australia politicians talk rubbish when they should be helping people in South Australia and we give a Port of Melbourne lease update. We chat about the complexities of the Syrian conflict and the humanitarian crisis that has unfolded. Over in America the first Presidential debate happened and we feel stupider for it. On top of all this we have our regular rant and 'articles of interest' and my cat has a sneezing fit. As always, thank you for listening.
