HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! I thought this would be the perfect time to start posting my series of Christmas mixes. I've been putting up a tree the past couple of days and the music makes it much more fun. It also may come in handy tomorrow over dinner. NOT a dance mix, this is a relaxing mix of some of (in my opinion) the greatest cover versions of songs that have ever been recorded. Many of these (in my opinion) surpass the original versions that were recorded by the artist in parenthesis below. Some of them were included here more for their originality even though I still prefer the original recordings. I realize some of these songs were recorded by many artists and I simply picked my favorite version...hence the title of the podcast. It was fun putting this together and there are many songs that didn't fit so maybe in the future I will do another if there is enough interest. Also, I will start posting Christmas mixes, I have quite a few and will record at least one new one this year, in a few weeks so keep on the lookout.

For those who have been following me for awhile, you will notice that I have used many, if not most, of these tracks before, and that is why I call them favorites. Rather than wait for election results, I decided to put my energy into creating a new mix. This one is inspired by my friend Mark who brought to my attention a previous mix I had done. With some recommendations from him, I decided to take part of the previous mix and "expand" it with some other tracks to try to take it into a different direction. My first new mix in quite a long while. I finally am pretty settled into my new home in the Smoky Mountains and it has given me new inspiration! This mix contains 2 personal favorites (Spandau Ballet & Diana Ross) that I have used before, but, they just fit in with my "storyline" of this mix. The remaining tracks, I have never recorded before. I would say most of these would be new personal favorites and some are newer remixes of classics, or updated versions...so, you will most definitely recognize some memories along the way. This is my version of what used to be called a morning music set and now may be considered more of a beach house, or chill set. UNFORGETTABLE SUMMER by DJ MARK BISSON
OK, I lied. The last time I posted I was planning on not renewing my Podomatic account. But, they offered a great renewal deal that I couldn't pass up. Since then, I have sold my Palm Springs, CA home and moved to the Smoky Mountains of TN. Still getting settled here, but, yesterday I did get my studio set up. Sometime in the next few weeks I plan on starting to create some new mixes. In the meantime, I have one more "found" mix from 2006 that I've never posted. It is part 2 (part 1 "That Iberian Feeling" is on here as well) of my mixes of music from Spain that I absolutely love...a perfect blend of tribal, melody and vocals. It's interesting that way back then I titled it "Unforgettable Summer", how appropriate it seems now? This has truly been the strangest summer, and year, that I can recall in this lifetime. I won't say that is has been all negative since the current situation has inspired me to take a much more active role in figuring out what is really going on in our planet and make changes accordingly.

Just found this mix that I recorded in 2006. Back then I was really into much of the tribal music coming out of Spain. I love the way they incorporated the tribal drums with the melodies and lots of percussion. This is one of 2 mixes that I recorded with primarily that style of music. Unfortunately, I could not find the track listing for this mix. So, TEAR YOURSELF AWAY FROM THE TV and get caught up in the primordial beats of this music and I would be willing to bet it will take you somewhere...enjoy!

I thought I'd post another "uplifting" mix of music. Now that, here in California, we are in a mandatory 2 week quarantine there is lots of time for things like listening to music, TV, reading, spending time outside in nature, sleeping, and just doing things that our busy lives take us away from sometimes. In the past few years, and especially this past year, I've been practicing meditation. It has been very interesting, to say the least, and something that definitely takes a lot of practice. I must say, especially during these last few weeks, it has helped me tremendously. So, whatever your spiritual or religious or even non-beliefs, there's never been a better time to do some self introspection and really take some time to get to know and love yourself. It will also help you love and appreciate those around you even more.

Of all the bands originating in the 1980's I would have to say TALK TALK was my favorite. Spanning 10 years (1981 - 1991) and 5 albums, they have an amazing body of work. I was very sad to hear of the passing of lead singer Mark Hollis on 2/25/19 at the age of 64. I had always hoped the band would someday get back together and perform since I never had an opportunity to see them live. I decided to take all my favorite tracks from their first 3 albums and put them into a Podcast. Most are the original extended versions of their tracks along with several b-sides that were never on albums. If you've never heard their last 2 albums (SPIRIT OF EDEN and LAUGHING STOCK), do yourself a favor and check them out. While the style of music is totally different, they are absolutely brilliant and sound as good as ever today. Very chill type music but incredible. I hope you enjoy!

A couple weeks ago some friends and I put ticket requests in to see MADONNA'S upcoming MADAME X tour which is going to be small venues in several major cities. Since I've only seen her in big stadium shows (not my favorite), I thought a small venue like the Wiltern (one of my favorite theaters) in LA would be a nice change. No other performer has had more of an influence on me than the QUEEN OF DISCO. I was shocked when she passes away on 5/17/12. It's hard for me to believe in a few days it will be 7 years since her passing. She left behind such a massive legacy of her work which I still continue to enjoy and listen to. I recently started re-listening to this series and realized that, in my opinion, these could be some of my best mixes and I've never posted them on here. Now, I know it's not summer yet, but, after the coldest, wettest and longest winter I've ever seen out here in the Coachella Valley...the next few days are going to be in the mid 80's so it is feeling like summer here. I actually enjoy the second part of this journey even more than the first...it's loaded with big anthems and I love the story it tells...to me, it's very spiritual. One definition of "opus" is any artistic work, especially one on a large scale. For those of you who don't know the dance music/party history, "white party" is not a racist thing. Here's a bit of history...a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away clubs (THE SAINT NYC, PROBE LA, etc) would host annual events like the White (fun, uplifting, bright,shiny music) and Black (dark, sexy, harder music). The attendees would generally dress appropriately and decor would also match the theme...in a nutshell, these parties were a blast!!! ;) After recording and listening to this I came to the decision that this felt very much like a "white party" to me...enjoy!

This is by far my most popular Podcast Mix of all time (so far). I originally posted it on New Years 2012 and I decided to re-post for this New Years 2018 (that still sounds weird to me). This brings me back to a really fun time for music in the early/mid Nineties. I came up with the title as a sort of play on the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!" from 1970 about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Basically the word conveyed the meaning of "attack" and I think Techno from that time period was a type of aural attack that had an amazing way of getting people to move on the dance floor. FINALLY A NEW PODCAST!!! Yes, it's been way too long...had a "slab leak" that flooded my home and all my stuff (including my dj equipment) had to be moved to storage while my home was repaired. About 3 months later I was able to move back in and I was so excited to get my equipment back so that I could record something new. I decided to go back and put some of my very favorite tunes in this latest podcast, in story form of course :) Some of these were hits, and some went fairly unnoticed...but, all are classics IMO...hope you enjoy!

My true passion for dance music began with disco music in the late 70's, and I will always have a special place in my heart for so much of this music. I have a ridiculously large collection of many rare and out of print tracks. Unfortunately, most of these tracks have never been remastered and therefore required much tweaking (or RE-EQ'ing)...I did my best on this mix and I hope you enjoy the memories! (:

Ever since the early 90's, I've always been a huge fan of MOBY. This compilation includes many of his more ambient/orchestral tracks, along with many of his biggest hits. It's what I would consider more of a chill mix...listened to it while floating in the pool...very nice :) Several of these tracks have been used in films and TV series...most recently the Netflix series "STRANGER THINGS", the JASON BOURNE MOVIES, the HBO series "THE SOPRANOS" and "TRUE BLOOD"...ENJOY!!!
