Ambient Meditations S2 Vol 53 - Ryan Farish
This week we welcome Ryan Farish to the podcast, who has been producing music under his own name since the days of MP3.com, where he was downloaded roughly 1.8 million times. This early success on the OG of streaming platforms started a long career in music, both in commercial work for brands like Audi and Bang & Olufsen and as a solo artist, with early tunes gravitating toward classic chillout and later into more 4/4 dancefloor work. His early chillout sound takes us back to the golden years of Cafe Del Mar and the endless, amazing "chill" compilations that defined the mid-90s and early 00s. His mix is a bit of a nod towards the classic with some modern touches, perfect for a glass of sangria and a sunlamp - just pretend you are in Ibiza watching the sunset.

Ambient Meditations S2 Vol 52 - Factory Planets (LoFi + House Mix)
Well, maybe we just should be honest with ourselves and call this a biweekly podcast? Not giving up on weekly just yet, but there might be a downshift for 2022's Season 3. Anyway, this week we have put together a special mix from a new project by tech house producer Ben A and Chic Hooligan (aka David Ireland) that blends together some more laid back lofi grooves and then picks up a bit midway through with some chilled out house that weaves between afro/organic. It pairs well with 12-year-old rum, one ice cube, and no chaser. Sip up, lay back, and enjoy.
Ambient Meditations S2 Vol 51 - Dot (bitbird records)
Delays, delays - we know, but this one was worth the wait. This week's guest mix is from up-and-coming producer Dot, based out of Los Angeles, and bitbird recording artists. Her mix is as eclectic as her productions, with various textures and moods perfect for the transition of seasons. So grab something nutmeggy, warm and fallish - it's shoulder season, after all.

Ambient Meditations S2 Vol 49 - AK
For many artists, music is a cathartic process; for some, it's a process to keep themselves in check and balanced. For Aljosha Konstanty, also known as AK, it's all of the above. Music for AK is a way to cope with anxiety, and his recent signing to Han Solo's bitbird label is a testament to the fact that it's working. "Sunrays" is the first single for AK on the label and proves that beautiful ambient soundscapes can exist alongside a 4/4 beat in a way that is soothing and slightly uplifting. We have always been huge fans of this balance on Ambient Meditations, and we look forward to hearing more from AK in the future on this label and in general. His guest mix hits the sweet spot of dreamy and uplifting, a perfect mix to pick you up like a warm cup of black tea spiked with a little whiskey. Enjoy.

His more dancey stuff harks back to the days of true progressive, when Sasha and Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and other UK jocks held court. So it's only fitting that his AM mix leans into those epic sounds, perfect for taking with you on a long scenic drive or a trip to the outer atmosphere. With dabbles of synths, lofi noise, and soothing echoes, it's one you will probably put on repeat. Their mix is almost the perfect, slightly more chilled companion for their album, so stacking them together is a great way to wind down your weekend. Ambient Meditations Season 2 - Vol 32- LoFi Mix By David Ireland
This week we are keeping things simple, a nice icy cold LoFi mix with plenty of deep grooves, mossy basslines, wobbly beats, and jazz licks that are perfect for weekend chillage. So find a comfortable position, a beverage of some sort and lay back, let your mind undress, and get your beat meditation on.
So as we roll into the already crazy '21, we will be flipping up our format with rotating guests every other week and a radio-style broadcast for the other two with the occasional guest mix thrown in - this week, we have U.K. artist R.A.D.E. For episode 31, we will also be showcasing new music from Bicep, John Tejada, The Magician, Raul Alvarez, Emancipator & Asher Fulero, and more hand-picked gems from the downtempo genre across ambient to more mid-tempo jams. The R.A.D.E. mix that will take you old-schoolers back to the days of the chillout room with a modern twist, deep soothing ambient vibes, with some lovely percussive moments - smoking music.

Ambient Meditations Season2 - Vol 30 - The Notwist
Happy New Year! Welcome to season two of The Ambient Meditations Podcast, and hopefully, after all this craziness, things will start looking up as we get into 2021. To kick off the new year, we have one of our favorite indie bands, The Notwist, who have a new album, Vertigo Days coming out on January 29th. We got the chance to catch up with Markus Acher to talk about the album, the year gone by, and their mix for AM. The Notwist drift between soft indie rock to experimental electronic music effortlessly, never able to be truly defined in one way or another. This mix is a testament to that, and we hope you love its quirkiness as much as we do.

Ambient Meditations Vol 29 - RYTERBAND
Happy Holidays from all of us here at Magnetic Magazine and Ambient Meditations [AM]; this will be the last episode of 2020. We will return in the second week of January with special guest The Notwist and have lined up some fantastic guests to start things off right. This week's guest is up and comer RYTERBAND, a producer who has cut his teeth as a musician/composer in television and film and has now focused his attention on solo works in electronic music. With stunning remixes from Boxer on "Lighthouse" and Jody Wisternoff on "Brilliant Eyes," it's easy to hear all of RYTERBAND's potential for the dance floor - emotive, melodic, and introspective in all the right ways. RYTERBAND's AM mix brings his musical sensibilities to your speakers with tracks that will make you melt like marshmallows in your hot chocolate (spiked with something we hope). It is a perfect collection of tracks to reflect on what has been a very challenging and heart-wrenching year and look ahead to what will hopefully be a much better 2021.
RYTERBAND Ambient Meditations Tracklist:
Ambient Meditations Vol 28 - Rutger Hoedemaekers & Nils Frahm
For episode 28, we are changing up the format a bit with both a mix and a separate interview. Our guest mix is from the Dutch composer Rutger Hodemaekers to celebrate the release of his new album The Age of Oddities which came out on FatCat's 130701 imprint on March 5, 2021. Hodemaekers takes you on a cinematic journey all his own, perfect for long walks in nature or sitting in front of a fire. We also catch up with Nils Frahm for an interview to talk about his new live album Tripping With Nils Frahm, which was edited and perfected from multiple performances in his home town of Berlin at the Funkhaus, which is also the home to his recording studio. Along with the interview, there will be a few selections from the new album. We will be experimenting with the show's format in the episodes ahead, so please send any feedback to direland@magneticmag.com. We would love to hear from you.

This is a mix of classic chillout with some jazzy influences and just enough beats to stir you from your indulgences to give thanks for all that we do have. Happy Thanksgiving!

Ambient Meditations Vol 26 - Emancipator
If you are a chillout fan, then chances are you have bobbed your head more than a few times to the beautiful beats and vibes of Portland's Emancipator. Despite the unfortunate timing, 2020 has been a big year for Portland's favorite laidback son, with a full-length album Mountains of Memory, a remix album Mountains of Memory Remixes, and a new EP in the pipeline with 9 Theory called A Thousand Clouds. With the classic boom-bap sound, a continually evolving twist, unlikely pairings, and an ambiance that is uniquely his, Emancipator has become a chillout hall of famer. The mix for AM 26 brings in some legends like Brian Eno and Four Tet; a dabble of Neo-Classical and some of that Bap, all fused with Emancipator's secret sauce. Hit play hit repeat, hit play, hit repeat.
Emancipator - Ambient Mix 26
Ambient Meditations Vol 25 - Omid 16B
For episode 25, we catch up with progressive house producer 16B, aka Omid Nourizadeh, for a chat about his new album SunTzu and a brilliant chillout mix. If you remember the golden era of progressive house, back in the late 90s and early 00s, you remember those beautiful interludes and breakdowns that made the genres so memorable. 16B has never left and continues to carry the torch of that fantastic sound as well as more thoughtful ambient pieces under his own name. The mix for AM 25 takes all those "pins and needles" moments from your favorite progressive breakdowns and sculpts them into an ambient megamix that will make you feel like you are floating in outer space. Find a warm spot, preferably with a view of the night sky, and prepare to melt into the furniture.

Remember when you used to make mix tapes for people? Maybe you made mix cds, but the point is you put together a collection of tracks that told a story and often shared how you felt about someone. Well, that's what episode 22 is all about, a sweet dedication to a lost art that hopefully makes a comeback, because playlists just are the same. This one is dedicated to my wife Laura, so find someone you care about and put together a mix for them, think about every track, take your time and I guarantee it will make their day. During these terrible times, it's sometimes good to let music take you out of the daily ticker tape that is our news cycle. So do it! Dig out those tracks you had forgotten about, maybe songs from when you first met, you are the DJ. This mix features cover songs, rare and unreleased stuff and some incredible piano works. It's chillout, neo-classical, cinematic and some classic downtempo. It might even make you tear up a little bit. Enjoy.

Losada's approach to this newest single is unique, as it goes on for 24 minutes. "Decomposition" weaves in and out of various ambient soundscapes and percussion, giving you an intimate insight into the bedrock of Losado's influences and production style. Fusing layers upon layers of sounds and bringing the sounds of Cumbia and other Colombian music into his work, this is exactly what electronic music needs right now. From the glistening and infectious sounds of Salt Cathedral (Ultra Music) to the more reflective solo work, Losada is a producer to keep your ears tuned in on. This week we once again do not have a guest mix, so we decided to dive into some lofi goodness with a blend of jazzy hip hop instrumentals and some classic downtempo. We are huge fans of the lofi genre, and it's come to mean so many different things to so many different people; one thing is for sure - it's having a huge moment right now. There is no better music to put on in the background for studying, working, or easing into your glass of something. Crazy times require less crazy music, so we hope this one relieves the stress a bit.
This week we present a unique mix of eclectic classics from all over the chillout map. From an early Carl Craig cut to Air to Daft Punk, we dug deep into the CD and vinyl stacks to find some of these gems, some of which will surprise you. We will be taking a break next week, and back the following. So enjoy your holiday weekend.
Carl Craig - A Wonderful Life
Air - Alone In Kyoto
Boards of Canada (Peel Session) - Aquarius (Version 3)
Double Fantasy - Heartbreaker
The Cinematic Orchestra - Lessons
Harold Budd - The Room of Mirrors
Daft Punk - Adagio for TRON
Imogen Heap - First Train Home (Instrumental)
Flunk - Play
Emancipator - Soon It Will Be Cold Enough To Build Fires
As we head toward September, we will start changing things up a little bit with the show, pushing more genres of chillout and downtempo music that reflects the seasonal shift. This week for episode 15, we welcome Mammal Hands, a forward-thinking trio that embraces multiple styles (jazz, electronic, folk, classical, world, etc.) in their productions. Jazz has always been a part of the downtempo genre in one form or another, whether it's LoFi riffs or classic Balearic chillout. It's an always welcome element that is perfect for easing into the evening or late summer afternoon. Mammal Hands will be dropping their fourth album Captured Spirits on September 11th and have put together a vibrant and deep mix for us this week, perfectly paired with a fine mezcal. Sip and trip out. Also, please check out our new companion playlist to the podcast on Spotify with selections from our past guests and fresh new chillout cuts we are digging.
Mammal Hands AM Mix Tracklist:
Ambient Meditations Vol. 14 - Shiny Objects (OM Records)
AM's 14th episode welcomes Shiny Objects, aka Christopher J. Smith, the founder of legendary San Francisco label OM Records. Smith has been in the downtempo hustle from day one and has dropped a brand new album under his newish alias Shiny Objects entitled Ambient Downtempo Workswhich comes out today (August 21, 2020). The album is reminiscent of classic downtempo sounds but brings a contemporary take that feels essential in these trying times. So grab something cold to drink, find a quiet place to recline and take a lush downtempo journey with Shiny Objects.
This week for episode lucky number thirteen we are again without a guest mix and diving into another experiment. This time around we are doing a sequen to The Ghost of Brian Eno with his other application called Bloom, which is still available for iOS and is very similar to Reflections from our first installment. Bloom is different in that you can interact with it, plotting points on your phone's screen to direct which way the ambient audio soundscape takes you and with different sound profiles as well. If you are more keen to just sit back and become a vegetable, Bloom will accommodate that too. Set the timer, find your profile of choice and lay back into oblivion. So here is a little taste of Brian Eno's Bloom.
This week we are joined by Swedish pianist and composer Henrik Lindstrand who will be releasing his new album Nordhemon October 23rd on One Little Independent Records. His delicate, layered, and intentionally sparse compositions provide the perfect soundtrack for reflection. You can feel the emotions punch through with every stroke of the key, bringing you into Lindstrand's world yet allowing you to make it your own. His mix is remarkably reminiscent of his own work, a soundtrack for spaces and time, gently reminding us of our humanity, allowing us to feel more connected to the moment. You cannot help but be moved by these works, curated perfectly and programmed to enhance your journey, whether in an armchair or a coastal stroll. Headphones on, it's time to get ready for a sonic journey that will stay with you long after it is through.
This week we are doing something a little different, our guest is not a person per se but the algorithm of one. The application/album Reflections by Brian Eno is an experiment in machine learning applied to regenerative music, it's an algorithm that recycles loops and textures to create an ongoing ambient composition. It's like literally having the ghost of Eno just living in your iPad ready to create at any time, and what's even cooler is that it moves with the seasons and generates a video image to correspond with the sounds. Download it stat if you like what you hear. Headphones on, let's reflect with the ghost of Brian Eno.
Ambient Meditations Podcast Vol 10 - Bing & Ruth (David Moore)
This week we are joined by Bing & Ruth's David Moore to talk about his new album, inspirations from the California desert, the Farfisa organ, and more. Their new album Species came out on 4AD July 17 (2020) and will mark the fourth album from his shape-shifting modern minimalist/ambient ensemble. Moore's Ambient Meditations mix he has done for us runs almost as a sort of parallel to Species, a cinematic score to man's constant, if not eternal, existential dilemma. Inspired by classic soundtracks, artistic contemplation, and our place in the universe. The mix is expanding, beautiful, and timely in this time of pandemic peril, political strife, and global warming. This one will make you think, feel, and hopefully recalibrate. Enjoy.
Tracklist:
Gustavo Santaolalla - Tema Amores Perros + Atacama
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Tracing Back The Radiance
Thomas Newman - Angela Undress
Chihei Hatakeyama - Alone by the Sea
Late Bloomer - Countances

For Volume 9 we are joined by Icelandic duo Hugar consisting of multi-instrumentalists, Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson. Their music might be described as minimalistic, with only the essential emotive layers to fill in the "white space." You might say there is a certain Icelandic quality to their sound, wide open and dreamy with artifacts of such greats as Ólafur Arnalds and Jóhann Jóhannson, with whom they have also collaborated. Their new album, The Vasulka Effect: Music For The Motion Picture, is out on Sony Music Masterworks later this year on October 2nd. This project is a unique concept, both an inspiring and unique album that is an extension of the original soundtrack they did for the documentary on visual artists Vasulka. For the mix, we are taken on an extensive journey of both familiar and unfamiliar, with a variety of feelings and textures - it is also the most extended mix we have ever had on the show. So put on the headphones and get to know the sounds of Hugar.
This week we are joined by London based recording artist Tomos, a newcomer to the chillout scene with a beautiful new EP entitled "Count The Seconds," coming out on new imprint Mellia on August 26th, the new single "Resonate" available now. We catch up with him in his London flat to discuss the new EP, life out of quarantine in London, and his brilliant Ambient Meditations mix that he has done for us - based on his walks through London. So pop on the headphones, get to know Tomos.
Ambient Meditations Vol. 7 - Ferry Corsten as FERR
You probably know Ferry Corsten more for his massive anthemic dance music than for his atmospheric tunes as FERR. We got the chance to catch up with Corsten in Rotterdam via Zoom and talk a bit about the album, the current state of affairs and briefly discuss his mix for this week's episode. This week's mix includes some music from Corsten's new album and chillout veterans such as Chris Coco, Aquasonic, and Jon Hopkins. Sit back, put on the headphones, and enter the world of Ferry Corsten's FERR.
William Cashion, bass player for indie darlings Future Islands, joins us for Vol. 6 of the AM podcast. His new album Postcard Music is out June 26th, just in time for some summer contemplation. His mix is an eclectic grouping of artists that, in many ways, feel almost like a companion to his new album. Sit back, let your mind unwind and enjoy Vol. 6.
Gabríel Ólafs joins us for the fifth installment of Ambient Meditations, our ongoing series of ambient mixes designed for introspection, quiet walks, winding down, or meditation. Volume 5 features an incredible blend of solo piano works, cinematic moments, and even a choir. If you need to get over a creative roadblock or feel a little deeper, this one is perfect.
Following the release of last year's mesmerising 'Absent Minded', Gabríel Ólafs returns with his stripped back yet beautifully intricate 'Piano Works', a collection of reimagined arrangements released as part of an ambitious deconstructive series by One Little Indian Records.

Lem Springfield aka Meltonix is our second guest in this ongoing series of ambient mixes designed for introspection, quiet walks, winding down, or meditation. Volume 4 features soothing soundscapes, hypnotizing pads and smooth bass lines for a more upbeat session.
Songwriter, producer & toured DJ, Lem Springsteen’s chillout music project of no boundaries is Meltonix (melt-on-this). Initially the intent sprung out of the love for listening to different types of downtempo music, when not working on danceable projects, from which Lem is more known. Life circumstances eventually turned that interest into a therapeutic creative expression of a moment in time. It was first captured on the release ‘St. Elsewhere’ album as more as a reflective and introspective calming agent. Now the sophomore LP “Infinite Possibilities” takes you on a more serious, yet creative journey of chill out vibes. Now the motive is creative freedom of expression.
