"Meanings are Not in Words" - words are often meaningless when we communicate. Although this is the opposite of what we would normally think, nonverbal communication is much more powerful than verbal communication.
"Communication is unrepeatable" - Even if you say the same things and do the same things twice, the meaning changes.
Rule #2: "You cannot not communicate" - As hard as you might try, it's impossible to shut down communication. Silence sends a message to others.
Rule #3: "Communication is irreversible" - Once you have said or done something, you cannot take it back or erase it.
What happens when you're thinking about something, but you know you shouldn't say it out loud? Sometimes it comes out of your mouth in an unexpected way. Listen to find out more about Freudian Slips.
Any response to a message is feedback. This sounds simple enough --- however, it's the quality of the feedback that makes the communication more or less effective.
How do you get your message across to someone else? Part of what you need to decide upon is what tool to use to send the message: text, land line, snail mail, email. This is called the "CHANNEL" of communication.
