Picture this: You're at the helm of a thriving dental practice, with a dedicated team and a steady influx of new patients. But was it always this smooth? Probably not. Many dental practices struggle with one critical aspect - communication. That's why we've invited Genevieve Poppy, a dental practice management expert, to guide us through the labyrinth of effective communication in dentistry.

Genevieve serves us a dose of hard truth - your practice is only as good as your communication. And it starts with your front-line staff. They're not just receptionists; they're the ambassadors of your practice. Genevieve shares how she turned a routine patient call into a $6,000 gain simply through curiosity and understanding. However, it's not just about the new patients. It's about maintaining that relationship, and that's where vulnerability comes into play. Navigating through the delicate balance of vulnerability and professionalism, we realize that scripts may not always be the answer. It's about being authentic, being present, and truly listening to what the patient has to say.

But it doesn't end there. Genevieve and I delve into active listening and its role in new patient calls. What's the one thing that can ruin it all? Multitasking. While it might seem like an efficient way to handle things, it's detrimental to the patient experience. We also explore the art of building rapport, ensuring it's not just one-sided but mutually beneficial.

As we wrap up, Genevieve leaves us with a crucial piece of advice - accountability. It's the backbone of any system, and without it, even the best-laid plans can crumble. So, join us as we journey through the maze of communication in dentistry and come out stronger on the other side.

Consider this: You're a high achiever, always striving for more. But despite your accomplishments, you still feel unfulfilled. Sounds familiar? Our guest, Maki Moussavi can relate. As a fellow high achiever and author of 'The High Achievers Guide: Transform your success mindset and begin the quest to fulfillment', she discusses her journey from seeking external validation to finding genuine fulfillment.

Maki takes us through the importance of emotional fulfillment, and how our society’s inclination towards analytical thinking often suppresses our emotional side. We talk about stepping out of our comfort zones, facing our realities, and how, ironically, capitalism's emphasis on productivity as a reward doesn’t always translate into personal satisfaction. We challenge the idea of staying on the hamster wheel of life, instead, advocating for a conscious prioritization of what truly matters.

We also dive into the critical aspects of self-confidence and self-worth, discussing their role in personal growth. Maki shares her insights on the common pitfalls and personal sacrifices that high achievers often make in their quest for success. Wrapped in brutally honest self-reflections, this episode is a must-listen for those who are on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

It's our mission to help dentists pause and think about their practice. We also believe the most significant successes come when we aren't chasing numbers. The numbers will come when we get things right. This episode dives into one aspect of getting things right: knowing your ideal avatar. We'll discuss using the information you already have in your practice to create this ideal avatar.

Marilee shares an example of how a practice was able to create a considerable increase in their ideal patients once they took the time to really dig into who was making their practice profitable. We also talk about looking at your patient analysis report and taking the time to record the data so that it can be analyzed correctly. Dr. John calls it slowing down to speed up. We also talk about reviews and how you have control over your reviews if you have the courage to ask for them.

Show Highlights

[04:26] How do marketers know us so well when they create those appealing ads?

[04:49] We also have information on our patients. We can ethically use that information to understand who we're serving and who we're attracting.

[05:08] Take a look at your patient analysis report. What is the average age? What is the average spend? Having a rough idea of these things helps us better serve our patients going forward.

[05:59] When we create a full picture of who our ideal avatar is we have a much better chance of attracting our ideal patients.

[07:07] Taking the time to enter your data into your software program will help you have access to all the correct information in order to refine your marketing.

[07:57] It's important to know who your avatar is and be committed to marketing to them. You also need to be very committed to your data and your software.

[12:21] Do a patient analysis report and look at your most profitable patients over the last year. Marilee shares an example of how this can produce surprising results when you discover where to focus your marketing.

[15:50] Certain reviews can also help attract your ideal avatar.

[19:00] When it comes to getting reviews, go back to the four C's and be courageous enough to ask for a review. Commit to consistency. Slow down for maximum production and profitability. Slow down to speed up!

[22:12] Realizing your ideal avatar can help you change lives and feel good about your work.

We kick off this show with our thoughts on the aftermath of July 4th. We enjoyed our celebrations, but there was a small fraction of people so discouraged that they didn't want to celebrate our great country. It's a shame to lose sight of the sacrifices people in the past have made for us. People worked together in order for us to have the country we have today.

We are also talking about something important that dental offices can't ignore. Whether you want to believe it or not as a dental office, you are always marketing. We talk about the importance of first impressions and how you present yourself. We also talk about the three things you should say to each patient and the importance of knowing who your ideal customer avatar is.

Show Highlights

[04:01] We are marketing ourselves all day everyday. We all know that first impressions are hard to overcome.

[05:38] We need to present ourselves to people so that we are believable and seen as trustworthy and honest individuals.

[06:28] No amount of promotion can make up for a bad experience or a bad first impression.

[07:33] In your morning meeting, talk about your patient experiences from the previous day. You need to follow up and make sure you don't break a promise by not doing what you say you're going to do.

[09:01] Who do you want as your ideal patient and why?

[10:45] If you do these three things people will listen to you and buy from you. #1. Use their name. #2. Listen to them and what their problem is. #3. Propose a possible solution.

[12:20] Know your ideal patient avatar. If you don't know your ideal patient avatar, how could you ever get them to walk in the front door?

[15:09] When patients feel like they can trust you they will comply and are motivated and eager to start.

[18:12] Ideal patients are also responsible individuals with their finances.

[20:25] Listen to your team, because they are the front-line people day in and day out.

[21:15] You also want patients who are emotionally and intellectually stable.

[22:47] Know your patients and know what you want as far as marketing.

The truth is not complicated because it's the truth! Everybody's talking about misinformation or disinformation with each side accusing the other side. The truth should be and is simple. This episode dives into understanding your truth as a dentist and a leader, so that your staff can understand and follow you.

Whether you are running an office or communicating with your family, truth is a powerful way to connect and understand. We dive into how there are personal and universal truths. It’s time to take a good hard look at what matters to us. We want to focus on the simple truths that bring us all together.

Show Highlights

[05:15] A clear vision is the basis for everything else.

[06:33] Dr. John prefers having dialogs with people that are willing to explore truth.

[08:49] Be able to look at yourself truthfully. As a dentist be able to understand your truth and do things honorably. Your staff won't see you as the leader you need to be without understanding and living your truth.

[10:17] It's worthwhile to look at your personal truth and office truth.

[11:25] Focusing on the truth brings us together as opposed to dividing us.

[13:51] Simplicity is the best way to keep things in your office. Keeping it simple helps us evolve closer to the truth.

[14:41] If you want to get great reviews, practice the truce in your office with everything you do everyday.

[15:02] Disagreements can be disarmed with the truth. Come together and sit in an atmosphere of truth.

[16:11] Call to action: allow yourself the opportunity to live in truth, because when you don't, you're full of excuses. Excuses do nothing but derail you.

Our last episode was about giving them something to believe in. We talked about really focusing on what we believe in and how our actions support our attitudes. We also talked about how our attitudes impact our actions. The two can't really be separated, because if we say we believe something then our actions need to show it. This episode is going to continue from last week's episode.

Marilee recently heard a quote that said "when your vision is clear decisions are easy." When making decisions about the future of your practice your vision needs to be very clear. This also holds true for the patients. Helping patients become more clear about their vision is something that Dr. John has been focusing on in his new patient interviews. This episode is about making vision based decisions as opposed to reaction based decisions.

Show Highlights

[05:15] A clear vision is the basis for everything else.

[05:37] Dr. John not only wanted to understand their patients, but he wanted them to see their vision and purpose of their smile in their own minds.

[06:06] Being able to see and believe allows you to make clear decisions from that perspective.

[07:26] When patients believe in and feel the vision, account receivables go down.

[08:28] The vision starts with us.

[09:43] Marilee shares a conversation with a dental assistant. This woman's vision was so clear that she decided to work in a dental office, so she would never have to worry about her teeth.

[10:58] What areas are we clear on? Focus on that vision first.

[12:19] It's easy to get clear on something that upsets you. We really need to get clear on the things that excite us.

[13:00] Dr. John loves helping patients create a vision for their smile. He asks questions that help guide and direct them. There's a strong bond when you become the hero to your patient.

[14:48] Do you do what's needed as a leader with your patient?

[15:33] Helping them create clarity makes things easy.

[19:04] Asking open questions and letting your patients speak. Gives you an opportunity to give your patients something to believe in.

[20:20] People don't forget how you make them feel.

Marilee kicks off the show with a story about one of her office visits in California. The staff had comments like their patients would never go for that. She also noticed that basic things were being overlooked like x-ray and perio treatments. They kept responding with a repetitive answer of their patients just don't want what your suggesting. Leaving the office Marilee heard the song “Give Me Something to Believe In” by Poison.

After working with hundreds of dental offices, we both know that we can never get our patients to believe in something that we don't believe in. It’s easy to look at our patients and think, they’ll never go for that. This episode is about giving your patients what they want and need. Once you and your office have bought into the process, it’s a lot easier to give your patients the treatment that they will absolutely love! Take the time to decide what you believe and your core values at your practice.

Show Highlights

[03:13] You need to decide what you believe in at your practice. Then you need to cultivate and protect those beliefs.

[04:26] Don't allow anyone at your office not to believe how important the work you are doing is. You have to have a belief in who you are and your foundations. You need a personal belief system going forward.

[05:19] Your team should understand your belief systems and be on board with you.

[08:07] The biggest obstacle Dr. John had with raising fees at his office was with the staff.

[10:53] Marilee shares an experience she had at an office about presenting treatment plans like they are worth it.

[14:56] Never judge a patient by what you think they will value or spend money on.

[15:30] Another example about a doctor not only talking a patient out of treatment with his comments, but actually hurting her feelings. Humiliation is a very strong negative emotion.

[18:03] Marilee shares a time when she felt humiliated. Our words and beliefs matter. Give a gift!

[20:55] What are the thoughts that go through your mind when you present treatment to a patient and they say no?

[21:12] When a patient says no they're often saying not right now.

[23:07] Look at how you value your services and prevention.

[24:07] Cancer screening literally saved a man's life.

[25:20] Evaluate your beliefs and look at the common treatment plants in your office, because those are great indicators of your beliefs.

Poison - Something To Believe In (Official Video)

Dr. John has been spending quality time with his grandsons. He's teaching them about being a gentleman, leadership skills, and how special they are. He's been enjoying learning from their perspective. This is a perfect time to teach them about greatness. He's also letting his staff know that they are special. He wants them to meet their potential. Doctors need to understand their goals and objectives and stitch everything together with a roadmap if they're going to realize those goals and objectives.

We talk about the Four C's and how they apply to our personal lives and a thriving practice. We talk about the tremendous courage it takes to be vulnerable with your team. We also talk about goals and dreams and how they apply to the dental practice and patients. We equate these dreams and the way they feel unobstructed and without obstacles. The same applies to goals and how they feel when achieved without obstacles.

Show Highlights

[05:22] The four C's are courage, curiosity, creative, and commitment. Dr. John is also teaching his grandson's about the Four C's. Once you look at these in your own life then you can take them to your team.

[06:04] Dr. John talks about how the Four C's and how they apply to the office.

[07:22] It takes tremendous courage to be vulnerable.

[08:28] Dr. John shares how he talked about dreams with his cosmetic patients.

[11:31] Obstacles can take our eyes off of what we really want to create.

[12:05] What you do needs to enhance an exceptional patient experience.

[14:43] Obstacles can also become an opportunity to grow. Working out the obstacles creates opportunity.

[21:08] Dr. John shares how he eliminates unnecessary appointments and eliminates obstacles.

[23:02] Patients are fully engaged when you work out a plan together with them. Asking questions is a great start.

[24:02] We need to look at dreams, goals and opportunities as opposed to obstacles.

[25:17] Be collaborative with your patients and solve the problems together. It's all about the patient experience.

[27:05] The main word is trust and your potential can be unlimited.

[30:08] Your practice can be a place where goals are met and dreams are realized, and the negativity stops at the door.

[33:06] Dreams are to be lived. They stay a dream until you take action. Action not obstacles.

The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

View Details

With all of the unrest that is happening right now, we've been extremely impressed with the courage and leadership of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He’s there for the people fighting for the people and his fellow citizens. His people are united for one cause. Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a comedian and actor who became President of his country. He is now leading in a time of extreme crisis, and the people are rallying around him.

It's hard to make the comparison, but look at leadership within your practice. What type of leadership example are you setting? Do you know what is holding back your leadership skills in your practice? Often, it’s fear. Today, we are talking about that topic and digging down to what is holding you back from being the leader your practice needs.

Show Highlights

[07:56] What keeps us from doing what we should be doing when we should be doing it? What is the fear factor? Everyday leaders are presented with an opportunity to do something that requires courage and appropriate leadership.

[08:52] Improving your leadership skills and having the ability to accomplish what you want to accomplish is one of the best things you can do for your practice.

[09:23] A lot of dentists spent the majority of their time in school studying dentistry, not business. Fortunately, the business part can be learned just like the Dentistry part can.

[10:54] A phenomenal patient experience starts with a phenomenal relationship between the staff and the doctor and a great culture.

[11:29] It comes back to the four C's, and courage is the first one. When you have the courage to ask the right questions, you'll then have the courage and creativity to solve any problems that come up.

[12:01] It's also so important to commit to the process with your staff.

[14:11] We train people how to communicate with us. If someone is afraid to communicate with us, think about how we trained them to do so. It takes extreme courage to come into a conversation and listen and not judge.

[16:22] We need to be courageous with the power that we are trusted with.

[17:30] If we want to be great, we need to first learn how to conquer fear and rise above it in the moments that matter.

[17:53] Take a few moments and write down the fears that you need to overcome. Muster the courage to deal with them and see what happens.

[20:34] If you want change in your practice, you probably need more leadership.

[22:44] When you're able to manage leadership and courage, you will accomplish things in your practice that you couldn't even imagine.

The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

View Details

Spring is almost here! Dr. John is really enjoying his retirement and his time to really dig deep into important topics. One of the most crucial things you can do for your practice is to make sure that you have a team that is motivated. We are going to talk about how to build a team that runs well together in a simple efficient way that doesn't cost a lot.

We talk about resolving conflict by having truthful honest conversations. We also talk about how staff conflict can drag the whole team down. Breakthrough can be found on the other side of the conflict. Conflict is an unmet need expressed poorly. We dive into finding those unmet needs and having a dream staff in a harmonious environment.

Show Highlights

[06:39] Dr. John shares an office visit where two staff members developed their own little tandem team of two in an office of eight staff members. These two people are creating a negative environment. It's time to get them to refocus and identify the shift.

[07:54] The entire staff needs to work together and be honest and truthful with each other.

[10:03] Ask them to share the problem that has splintered the relationship. What happened to your friendship? Please share.

[11:19] Don't waste time and energy talking negatively.

[13:05] What do you do when you sense that something is different with your normally great assistant? We get more of the behavior that we reward. There are reinforcements that don't necessarily revolve around money.

[15:53] You will see changes in a recognized and appreciated team.

[16:36] We train people how to treat us as individuals. Remember the four Cs? It takes courage to change how we train people to treat us.

[17:41] We talk about the book The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace: Empowering Organizations by Encouraging People.

[18:45] There is a quiz to find an individual's language of appreciation. With this information a doctor can make a team member feel supported.

[21:55] Your morning huddle meeting is the most valuable time during the day to coordinate your day and make sure things are running smoothly. You can also give appreciation to your staff individually and collectively as a group.

[25:36] Become specific in how you recognize your team members. Be curious. Find out your team's motivator and be creative with the results.

[29:28] Even small bonuses can be appreciated.

[31:06] People love to link back. Little reminders are a great way to do so.

[31:43] Conflict will kill your team goals. It's the doctors responsibility to find out what's going on and be creative with problem solving.

[34:50] Your staff is where it's at because you created that atmosphere. It's your responsibility to go back and make the necessary changes.

We're in the middle of the cold winter, but springtime is just around the corner. Have you ever set your spring goals, but then spring is here before you know it or have met those goals? This is why I always say set your goals yesterday. Give yourself time to achieve your dreams. It's not too late to still meet those big goals. You just may need to adjust your time table. It might take time to implement what you plan right now. Today is all about spring boarding your goals with your staff.

There's an infinite return on what we are going to talk about today. It's only defined by your imagination and beliefs. We talk about how your morning hubble meeting is one of the best investments of your time. It’s an opportunity to encourage your people to believe in themselves. We talk about setting your goals big enough to challenge you. We also talk about the niche opportunity that exists through leadership, communication, building trust and relationships. It’s time to set and reach your big goals.

Dr. John Marilee

Show Highlights

[04:18] Your best investment per minute in the office for the entire day is your morning huddle meeting. This is where you re-establish daily leadership with your team and show them that you believe in them and believe in what you're doing. It's time to affirm what you are doing and challenge your people to do their absolute best.

[10:04] Don't underestimate your goals. If it's not big enough, it won't challenge you. The further you set your goals the more you have to work against attention.

[14:54] Everyday stands on its own. Choose a number for a goal. Have the mindset to reach that goal each day.

[19:02] A phenomenal opportunity exists for niche practice. The one that builds trust with their patients through leadership, communication, and relationships.

[21:09] Spending time talking and listening to the people who are there will increase your revenue.

[24:06] It all starts with your morning huddle meeting. What's the prediction of the prior day? What's your starting place? Where did you end? Where is the gap? All staff members are involved with the effectiveness of collections.

[30:08] It's empowering for the team members to help with the success of a case.

[32:27] Asking for referrals is a way for a team member to further bond with the patient. You're not pressuring the patient for a referral. You are pleasantly inviting them.

[34:33] Correct scheduling is also important. Each team member is responsible to make sure that their column is scheduled correctly.

[37:09] You can reach out to us, and we will help you create an effective morning huddle meeting. There's an opportunity in your morning huddle meeting to create a stronger culture for your practice.

We are excited to kick off the new year with goal setting. Our theme is No Fear in the New Year! There's no playing small in the Think Big Dentistry Show. The four C's are courage, curiosity, creativity, and commit. These four Cs are so very important in goal setting. As I share each topic, I'll talk about the relevant C for that topic.

Dr. John and Marilee talk about thinking big and doctoring up to the challenge. There are always opportunities for growth. We also talk about how understanding the soft side of dentistry can make you more productive, reduce stress, and increase profit. We are going to concentrate on communication, service, and listening. Buckle up for achieving those big goals with less stress!

Show Highlights

[03:10] Prioritize a time when you can be alone and think and dream and envision your goals for YOURSELF. These goals need to be yours.

[04:47] If your goal doesn't scare you, it's not high enough. If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you.

[05:28] You cannot present obstacles. Present opportunities for growth instead. Find an area where you can learn and grow together to reach the goals that you are going to set.

[07:55] If you learn the soft side of dentistry, which is communication and relationships, the numbers will fall into place. Having numbers as your primary driver will create stress for you and your staff.

[16:44] If you can create the ultimate service concept within your practice, your patients will sense something special and want to come back again and again. They'll also refer like-minded people to your practice.

[19:27] Pick a big goal like two million. That's $166,000 per month. Let's say you work 18 days a month that means you need to earn $9,259 a day. That's the big number we're going to go with.

[20:26] Everything you do is going to revolve around that $9,300.00 a day. Every day stands on its own.

[22:44] It's the doctor's obligation to make their team members the best that they can be.

[23:39] Have a meaningful morning huddle meeting. The doctor has to be the example and can't take a day off from being the leader.

[25:04] The categories that need to be refined. Production every day needs to be $9,300. Collect 98% of your production. Know your account receivables. This ties to your collection skills. How many new guests a day do you need to create the production you want?

[27:09] Know what is diagnosed and know what is scheduled. Understand if there are any gaps and where they are. Be an advocate with the patient when presenting fees.

[30:55] Ask for referrals during the day or AFRs. Anybody can do it by asking how the day went and then being quiet and listening. It takes courage and commitment to ask questions that lead to referrals. It also encourages creativity. It really covers all four Cs.

[33:38] Doctors need to walk in with energy and enthusiasm and be the leader. Be aware of the team's culture. If the team needs encouragement, you're the one to do it.

[37:05] The staff wants you to rise up and be the leader! Tie in some bonus numbers.

New Guest Protocol Questions And Statements That Will Change Your Niche Practice!

View Details

It's time for our spectacular end of the year recap. We are going to put a bow around our last season and talk about what we have coming up for 2022. We want to help you make this upcoming year the most awesome year possible. We want it to exceed your dreams.

We talk about focusing on progress not the end result. We talk about focusing on wins and having honest conversations with your team. Working towards a goal or accomplishment takes courage, curiosity, creativity, and commitment or what Dr. John calls the four Cs. Taking steps towards your goal is about progress and who you are becoming in the process.

We also talk about team meetings, when to have them, what to ask, and how to be energized. Review and recap your year with your staff. List all of the amazing things you accomplished as a team. Then, CELEBRATE!

Show Highlights

[04:54] We talk about focusing on progress as opposed to focusing on results. Don't get down on yourself if you didn't achieve as much as you wanted to.

[06:12] Take an inventory of what you are proud of over the last year and focus on that and moving forward. What are you the most proud of?

[08:45] The biggest result of all can be who you became over the year.

[09:35] When you establish good habits and make deposits in your account, it will take a while to add up but eventually you reach that tipping point and see the results.

[10:16] This year, Dr. John is proud of accomplishing challenges. He's been spending time improving his guitar playing. He also challenged himself to get into a single-digit handicap in his golf game. The four C's apply to all the things that you're proud of.

[12:28] Courage, curiosity, creativity, and commitment are the four Cs. It takes all of them to commit to improving on or learning something new.

[13:10] We are both proud of our commitment to our podcast.

[16:21] Marilee is really proud of having a wonderful kid free conversation with her husband. These conversations are vital to understanding each other more and the health of their marriage.

[18:36] She's also focusing on eating and exercise. Recognize how you want to change and then find the smallest step to get closer.

[19:24] Change involves simple, sincere and honest conversations.

[22:33] Dr. John shares how you can energize a group by just asking a simple question.

[23:29] Have relaxed meetings and let the staff share and be open. Ask them what you have accomplished this year.

[24:54] Do your personal wins for the year. Then talk about wins for the team and point out how they are doing well.

[27:27] Boring meetings don't work. Find a way to energize yourself and energize your staff and open the meeting up to honest positive conversation.

[27:50] Homework: Do this before the end of the year. Take 5 minutes, and write your personal win list. Before you go to bed, think about things that you are proud of each day. Do the same thing for your office and your team. List big ones, small ones, and accomplishments.

New Guest Protocol Questions And Statements That Will Change Your Niche Practice!

View Details

We've been talking about creating relationships and deepening connections in the last few episodes. We continue that theme in this episode with these great questions for your new guest conversations that will make the patients think you're a genius. We know that Good Questions = Smart, but Great Questions = Genius! If you are in doubt, try them if you have the courage and see for yourself.

Great Questions That Equal Genius:

  • "Tell me what brought you to see ME today?"

  • "So I better understand, share with me what you meant by… "So I better understand, share with me a little more about…

  • "So I better understand, share with me how that (their perceived emotional disability) makes you feel…

  • "Every patient I talk with about cosmetic dentistry, or a new smile (implant dentistry), has dreamed or visioned about themselves living with it. Tell me what that dream looks like for you!"

  • Look at the patient straight in their eyes with confidence and conviction and tell them you can help them.

If there is an obstacle or hesitation that prevents the patient from moving forward, tell them this: I understand and 'I will wait with you and I will wait for you. "We'll wait TOGETHER!"

Show Highlights

[04:36] Asking great questions and getting great answers is a way to slow down to speed up. Once a relationship is developed, the patient opens up. Then we have a comprehensive treatment plan just waiting to be discovered.

[08:33] These new guest interviews only need to take five to ten minutes.

[11:25] Courage, curiosity, creativity, and commitment are the four Cs.

[12:16] The first question is, "tell me what brought you in to see me today?" I am present with you. Let's start talking.

[13:09] The next question comes from their comments. Where is this going to go and what am I going to learn? Get clarity. What is their number one concern?

[17:16] Find the real reason why this person wants cosmetic dentistry done. Ask how that makes you feel?

[20:17] People come in for relevancy, reinvention, defying the aging process, and they want to kick aside loneliness and humiliation.

[22:10] You are not alone. What does your vision of your new life and new smile look like?

[31:45] If you want to have a renewed faith in human beings, stop and have a conversation with them.

[32:27] After talking through everything, tell the patient that you can do it. I'll wait with you, and I'll wait for you. We'll get this done.

Today we talk about basic dental hygiene and why you’ll see so many cancellations. Hygiene is such a regular practice that many clients don’t see it as a necessity. So let’s ‘get rid of the pyramid and go with the great constellation of all that is needed.’

Patient hygiene visits are fabulous to have deep conversations with patients to find out what they want and how we can help them achieve their goals. Although hygiene in and of itself won’t distinguish your dental practice from your competitor’s business, what you do with that time can place you above your competition.

Listen in to find out why you need to ensure your patients understand what they want and how they can reach their goals. Also, learn when you can introduce a deeper conversation in your hygiene appointment and find out why it’s critical to build relationships and ask essential questions of your patients.

Show Notes

[02:22] Why patients don’t see hygiene as a necessity in dentistry.

[03:20] Look at patient hygiene as a time to have deep conversations with your clients.

[05:30] How you can make the biggest difference in your dental practice today.

[10:46] Essentialism: how much does the patient understand about what they want?

[13:30] What point in the hygiene conversation you can introduce a conversation.

[19:00] People are starving for true attention.

[24:02] Clients want to have strong, healthy teeth for life.

[30:45] When patients consider themselves a priority to get aesthetic dentistry completed.

[35:10] Take time to build relationships and ask essential questions of your patients.

Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We'll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Today we talk about reducing what you do to what only matters the most. You’ll need to back up from your current system, reflect on what you have, and think about how to recreate your practice to be more efficient and effective.

We recommend looking at the entire patient experience from the moment they walk through the door. Start with zero activity as your base and work from there to your next step. If you can accomplish everything you need with one step, then stop. You’ll want to make it as easy as possible for your patients to do business with you, so only create essential steps for the patient experience.

Listen in to find out why you don’t have to work harder to get ahead in your practice, why you need to eliminate the “industrialization mentality,” and why being present is the most crucial component of a great guest experience. Also, learn why connecting with your patient is the most important aspect of dentistry and how to create ROE - results of effort in your business.

Show Notes

[02:00] Reducing what you do and taking a look at your system in your practice.

[04:02] Think simple interactions with maximum results.

[06:17] Easy systems are good for your practice.

[14:38] Remember why it’s important to connect with your patients.

[16:42] ROE - results of effort and how to create them for your practice.

[18:40] Excuses are when you don’t hold yourself accountable.

Today we talk about how you can create a fantastic culture inside your own dental practice! Culture has such a significant influence on the success of your practice, you’ll want to have an established culture that patients can recognize, relate to and feel comfortable with when visiting.

Be sure to eliminate negativity from your company culture, as negativity spreads quickly and can diminish morale and other vital components of a successful practice. We refer to this scenario as “the poop in the pudding.” No matter how small amount of negativity is, it can spread quickly to the remainder of your office staff.

Listen in to find out why essentialism is so essential, how to get bigger and better results with minimum effort, and the three levels of culture you can achieve in your practice. Also, learn how you can raise the bar and increase patient care standards via company culture, why you need to focus on progress instead of problems, and why you want to start your company culture from the bottom up.

[19:41] Are you progress or problem focused?

[23:20] Starting your company culture from the bottom up.

[25:31] Focus on what went well in your practice and practice gratitude daily.

[27:50] As a leader, it’s your responsibility to cultivate positive characteristics in your team.

[29:24] Team members get excited when the leader focuses on potential and possibilities.

[33:46] Keep your work culture simple so it can be easy for your team to understand.

Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! Today we talk about the critical components of business success. When I’m talking to patients to find out who they are, the first thing that comes to me is the ability or inability to have difficult conversations. If someone is engaging in these types of conversations, the more successful their practice.

Finding out where you are too comfortable is a space where you may not have grown. Courageous conversations need to happen to gloss over the essential elements of our practice and our lives. Where we are willing to be uncomfortable in discussions will impact every area of your life.

The quality of our life is correlated to the amount of discomfort we feel when we allow ourselves to move forward and experience all that life has to offer. Communication = relationship - to communicate, you have to be courageous, fierce, and persistent with yourself.

Listen in to find out why we have a moral obligation to our patients to ask them questions, why we should focus on how others see themselves, and how we can be successful on paper but not be truly successful. Learn why it's crucial to have your staff as part of the decision-making process and why you need to shift your mental thinking to advocacy when discussing.

Show Notes

  • [01:17] Critical components of success in business.
  • [04:42] Formulas and systems only go so far without having courageous conversations.
  • [06:18] Seize opportunities that are sitting in front of you to have a conversation.

At this point in time right now, we can't grasp our future in 2021 if we are going to hold onto the struggles of 2020. The word "normal" doesn't exist anymore because what's normal today isn't normal tomorrow. We've taken a cleaver to our lives and sheared our lives down to basic living processes.

We've turned to simplistic modes of transportation such as e-bikes, scooters, and walking. Hiking and other outdoor activities have gained in popularity since last March. We chat about how Tesla is moving forward, with most clients making a good percent of their decision to buy before they even walk into the dealership, based on the information they found on Tesla's website.

Listen in to find out why you need a good internet presence in 2021, why you need a niche for your business, and why you need to let go of your conservative practices. This is the Think BIG Dentistry Show where your hosts Dr. John and Marilee Sears, will show you how to give your indecision and confusion a back seat to decisive, goal-driven decisions to move you forward. Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We'll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Marilee and I chat about our soft opening and talk about a saying I heard last week, "We need to learn how to dance around with COVID." I like this as this reflects using caution and common sense, but not to be fearful. Embrace what is going on and learn to live with this as well as we can without being afraid.

Sadly, some practices are not going to be able to re-open. What could they have done to prevent this from happening? Both Marile and I wrote down four to five pillars, which are essential to both of us to discuss these together. I've spent over three decades studying psychology, and as a result, I believe the most important pillar is to market your practice effectively.

Have services people want to offer, but more importantly, have the intangible items people are looking for and market those effectively. Do you have friendly staff? Do you like to answer the patient's questions? Does your team take a genuine interest in your clientele? These values are what customers are looking for in a quality dental office visit.

Listen in to find out how the staff in my office markets themselves, why you should focus on lifestyle dentistry and why driveway happy hours have become the primary source for connecting. Learn why you should be creative on how to get together with your team, how you can be more engaging with your connections, and how you can take this openness into your dental practice.

Show Notes

  • [01:35] How we are bringing back staff with our soft opening.
  • [02:54] Asking patients how they are doing and listening to their responses.
  • [04:07] Learning about ourselves, looking at opportunities.
  • [05:27] If you want to be successful in dentistry, you must market effectively.
  • [07:00] Bring happiness and connectedness into your practice.
  • [10:09] How my staff markets themselves and our practice to every patient.
  • [12:20] Missing connections and experiencing a degree of loneliness when we don’t connect with others.
  • [15:24] Elements I’ve discovered about driveway circles and happy hour.
  • [17:30] Dr. John has felt very social even with being a wallflower.
  • [19:59] Listen to what people are asking and give them relevant answers, not the answer you have scripted in your mind.
  • [21:02] The Happiness Advantage by Sean Acre
  • [22:34] Why you have to have all four elements in Sean’s book in order to be happy.
  • [27:00] I forbid negativity in my staff during business hours.
  • [30:00] How to incorporate gratitude and optimism into your daily life.

Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We'll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Marilee and I chat about how you can create a clear plan with a flexible approach to have several different paths to get to where you are going with your practice goals and future achievements!

This past Monday, we had a soft open, and I talked to patients and staff alike about the activities they have been engaging in since COVID-19 lockdown, and I found their stories very intriguing and interesting. From cooking home-cooked meals to spending more time with family and significant others, I've found that others are really enjoying this newfound time spent together.

Many are also enjoying the lack of peripheral noise in their lives. With this new simplistic lifestyle, people are pairing their lives down to the things which have meaning. Along with this new view, we are reflecting and realizing that many of the activities which we were doing before the outbreak didn't add to the quality of our lives. After the perceived crisis, we recognize the opportunity which sits out in the universe. This opportunity is also seeking you as you find the opportunity.

The time we had available post-pandemic became apparent, and my planning was focused on how I'm going to create an exceptional experience for my patients when we re-open. I now have an entire notebook focused on this reflection.

Listen in to find out why people are becoming more connected, why it's important to know what your destination is in your practice, and how you can be flexible in your approach. Learn why you need to know your why, why you need to be more flexible with your plans, but to be firm with your commitments, and how simplicity can be sophisticated.

Show Notes

  • [03:15] Patients and staff alike are enjoying the simplicity of COVID-19 lifestyle.
  • [07:47] Adding to the quality of our life by taking peripheral noise activities out of our daily routine.

  • [23:55] We show our true character in times of crisis in the way we respond.

Dr. John and I chat about the three big D's direction, determination, and decision. Dr. Steven Covey says to "start with the end in mind." What do we want to achieve and stand for? What is your purpose? Many times big and bold decisions are made as a result of a life-changing event. Once you are really clear and bold about the direction of your life and what you want to achieve, then you become bold and unstoppable because your life has changed.

Life is dynamic, and what we are today is different than what we were yesterday. COVID-19 is a significant event that we haven't experienced. This event has paused us all, and now many people are self-assessing and reflecting on their life. For Dr. John, this has meant rethinking his practice, looking for new opportunities, how is he going to define his new practice?

Asking questions of patients equates to a patient knowing they are essential to Dr. John. He prides himself on giving his patients the attention they deserve, and his clients know that he will sit and listen to them. For his staff, Dr. John has changed his practice hours so his staff can have time for themselves after work hours.

Make sure to take this opportunity to make changes. Making new decisions comes from a place of power. Be excited about the new changes you've made. Decide what choices you want to make now so you can implement them in your practice when you return to your office. Marilee quotes Jim Carey saying, "You can fail at what you don't want, or you can choose to take a chance at what you love."

Listen in to find out why the solo dentist will never go away, why Dr. John's path is in a constant state of recalculation and why creativity and curiosity vary among people. Learn why curiosity makes us sit and listen to an answer, what questions you should ask yourself to know more about you and your practice, and what are the four main elements you need to be happy.

Show Notes

Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We'll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Dr. John and I chat about what is going on with COVID and controlling the controllable. It's vital to be thinking about the direction of your practice, especially in these unpredictable times. Start your day with what you want the end of your day to look like in your mind. Your day doesn't have to be perfect but should achieve enough checkmarks to be content at the end of your day.

Having a clear picture, direction, and vision of success in your practice is incredibly important. It's very easy to focus on what we want so that we can lose track of what is going right for us in our lives. Building relationships, serving our clients well, and hitting key numbers and goals are all reasons to celebrate. Perfection is false because we will never reach perfection. Therefore we won't have a reason to celebrate.

Creative curiosity is happening amid the COVID pandemic. People are finding innovative ways to socialize in the face of lockdown. One of the best ways to break boredom is to explore your curiosity with creativity. Open up new pathways you haven't experienced before in your life. Curiosity is a choice and a mindset for us to grow. Be creative, and be curious about your future.

Listen in to find out the four pillar questions, how you can take advantage of creation during this period of uncertainty, and why it's essential to be focused on your end goal. Learn why you want to (and need to) focus on the positives, why it's vital to be flexible in your approach, and why everyone is critical for your vision and the destination.

Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We'll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Dr. John and I chat about leadership and how we love to cultivate a community where people are continually pushing their boundaries of what they believe is possible! We want to give you the tools you need for your success.

Coronavirus has spread throughout the nation; however, this doesn't mean we should fall into panic and fear. We are better when we are rational and reasonable, as the people around us look to us for guidance and leadership. Dr. John is encouraging dentists to not shut down during the pandemic. Navigate these waters with your patients who want to come in and retain their treatment and dental hygiene. These events are cyclical and will pass.

The "Currency of Calmness" and the "Currency of Uncertainty" are two very fundamental and prominent currencies of our day. Be careful about what is guiding your life right now. Make sure to be concerned about what is under your control, not what you can't control. Be smart when you decide about risk, have certainty about how you want your practice to be seen.

Listen in to find out why being in a state of fight or flight harms your health and work environment when you should pause and reflect before making a decision, and Dr. John's mindset when he was forced to move his practice and build a new office at a new location.

Today, Dr. John and I will talk about why people need to have affirmation. Affirm people by asking them great questions, taking the conversation to a new and better level. We will open up questions you can ask yourself, your team, and your patients.

We want to push each one of you to think differently. Remember to stay away from focusing on statistics, instead focus on communication. Get to know your patients, teach your staff how to ask great questions, and learn to connect with your patients. The one key factor which will grow your practice more than any other factor is getting to know your patients in a way that is meaningful to them by asking them great questions and offering them a solution to their problem.

Don't make the mistakes of focusing on the results of other dentists. Learn what the roots are for your practice. Communication and connection nourish the roots, which will grow your practice, which makes the results different. Focusing on the numbers can be disheartening because acting on the numbers lacks a passion for dentistry. Focus on your strengths, where you feel your team works best.

Look back at your path you've made and reflect on what actions you've taken, which have made a difference in your business and how your team performs. Tell a person who has made a difference in your life how much you appreciate them and what they've done for you.

Listen in to find out why patients won't move forward with a particular treatment, how to believe in your patients and understand who they are, and how to find out what your client's primary disability is, which is preventing them from undergoing treatment. Why telling your patients why you believe in them will plant a seed for them to find out why they deserve the treatment plan suggested for them.

Show Notes:

This is the Think BIG Dentistry Show where your hosts Dr. John and Marilee Sears, will show you how to give your indecision and confusion a back seat to decisive, goal-driven decisions to move you forward. Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We'll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Today, Dr. John and I will talk about the connection economy. We’ve converted from an industrial economy to a connection economy. Dr. John’s defining moments in his practice comes from the connections built during patient conversations.

Marilee quotes the phrase “Most people live 20 feet from greatness”, where most people get close enough but are satisfied, and they never reach their potential. This leads Dr. John to a formula: A + B = C. Additionally, GQ + RL = G. Focus on this formula every day, and Dr. John guarantees you will have a successful practice. This formula is the “magic spoon” to creating growth!

G Q = The art of asking Great Questions.

R L = Real Listening

The art of asking Great Questions + The art of Really Listening = Genius

Think about what level you possess in the art of asking great questions - not just good questions. Sit back and listen to your patient, staff, and others you interact with during the day. What patients really want to know is that they are being understood.

We need to learn how to listen and let the patient tell us what they need. Don’t sit in your “crown chair” and say to the patient what they should do. Dr. John’s friend said to him, “The definition of a real leader is maximum meaning, minimal words.”.

You can apply this rationale to your practice by doing the following: a cursory pre-exam, which takes less than 30 seconds, then spend the majority of your time talking with the patient and asking questions. When you ask great questions, and you listen, you transform yourself in the eyes of your patient. As a result, people view you as being an excellent and caring person. When you do these things, you become a genius in your patient’s mind. Secondly, you begin to build trust with your patients.

Listen in to find out how to create great questions, how to create understanding with your patient or client. How you can build relationships with your clients, how to not embarrass your patients, how to not limit the potential of your patients when you allow them to experience possibilities. How to let your clients dream and how to help them facilitate their dreams to become their reality.

Show Notes:

  • [02:56] People follow your lead when you are knowledgeable about your field.
  • [05:48] How engaged or present are we at work?
  • [07:01] Dr. John tells his formula for creating growth.
  • [09:45] After three decades of experience with practice procedures, Dr. John has come up with the magic bullet.
  • [10:36] Where are you at in the understanding of Dr. John’s magic formula?
  • [13:49] Asking great questions and listening to your patient creates a bond between you and your patient because they understand you care about them as a person.
  • [15:02] Connecting with your clients is where you’ll find success in this connection economy.
  • [17:03] How Dr. John learned to create great questions.
  • [23:04] Connecting with your patient’s fears, concerns and worries with discussion.
  • [24:17] Help your clients realize their dreams by creating a feeling of value by the questions you ask and making them feel like a person of value.
  • [27:34] Positive outcomes when you practice Dr. John’s formula.

Today, Dr. John and I will talk about knowing your plan to work on your plan. In just three short days, 90% of people who created a New Year’s Resolution will have abandoned their resolution. January 12th signifies this goal abandonment day every year. Previously, we talked about goal setting in episodes 4 and 5.

The word goal doesn’t stick on the wall. People tell themselves that it’s OK not to achieve their goal - that their goal is optional. I like to talk about planning.

Planning is more concrete, more visual, more explicit, and directional. Your step-by-step guide to what you want to achieve. How are you going to make your goal? That is what your plan is used for - to accomplish your goal. When your plan isn’t working, you can adjust the plan, not giving up on your goal. Your goals are more comfortable to replicate when you have a plan in which you get there.

Think about what you want to accomplish and create a simple plan, don’t overthink your plan. The hardest part is keeping the promise to yourself to achieve your plan. The one person we are most likely going to break promises to is ourselves! Marilee recalls a moment when she realized she was breaking multiple promises to herself, but keeping promises to others.

We need to learn how to trust yourself and keep promises to yourself. Until this point, we won’t be able to achieve goals that are within our reach. If you can’t keep yourself accountable, why would you think someone else will do this for you? Trust yourself, give yourself a try. Learn to trust yourself and to keep promises to yourself, this is what great people do.

We will dig into an example of why the planning process is so essential with an excerpt from the book Be Unreasonable. When to be reasonable and when to be unreasonable. Dr. John will talk about reasons why he holds himself accountable such as personal pride and being an excellent example for his grandchildren.

Listen in to find out how to trust yourself, what you will learn when you set goals, how you should choose an accountability partner, and how you can keep yourself accountable.

Show Notes:

  • [04:18] In three days, 90% of people will let go of their resolution.
  • [05:24] Why the word “goal” doesn’t stick on the wall too well.
  • [06:49] Why planning is better than setting a goal.

Today, Dr. John and I will talk about goal setting, part II. This isn't your typical goal setting, cheerleader type of show. We are really going to get to the crux of what motivates you, what pushes you to your limits of what you think you are capable of, and what makes you a better person. How can you set goals which get you so fired up you can't wait to jump out of bed in the morning?

Steps to Setting Your Goals

  1. Start with Successes - revisit your highlight reel and frame your mindset, so you are going to achieve. Write down ten attainable achievements you can look back at in the past year. Come from a place of having fire already there. What are the top successes you have had in your practice this year? Grow these experiences more and more to find out what you can achieve. Keep a Success Journal and look back in your journal to show you your successes and soak in the afterglow of your best moments.
  2. Know what motivates You - not just the money, look for intrinsic value such as what can the money get for you? Maybe the money will bring you wonderful vacation experiences with your family. The experiences are what we remember, and having money to create those experiences is the utmost important motivator - not the money itself. Marilee ties her goals into her family. Be dialed into your goals so that you have enough momentum to move past obstacles that can get in your way.
  3. Make your goals for the year, then break them down into quarterly, monthly, and weekly pieces to set yourself up for success. Find out the types of metrics you need to look at to achieve your goal and put your practice on the road to success. Take out monetary goals and focus on process goals, which will lead to your team's success and accomplishing your monetary goals.
  4. How to get the people around you motivated. Recognize team members who go above and beyond, put a goal in place which your team can lose instead of showing them what they can gain.

We will dig into an example of how to dial in your goals with Marilee using your big end goal to drive you, then breaking down your goal into smaller pieces to accomplish. Make sure to add reviewing your goal and reflect along the way. We will also talk about how Dr. John breaks down his goal for the year. What happens when patients experience a relevant experience? How does that happen, and what steps does your team need to take to make sure the entire team succeeds with each and every patient?

Listen in to find out how to set your own goals, achieve what you thought was never possible and how to dial in your goals to give you the momentum to jump out of bed in the morning and pursue your goal!

Show Notes:

  • [02:34] How to break down your yearly goals to complete your goals in little bites.
  • [05:34] How does Dr. John view, set and reflect on his goals?
  • [08:23] What is your team doing to assist your clients in having a relevant experience with every visit?
  • [10:58] Steps you can take to build success and to get your team excited about your goals.

We’ll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Today, Dr. John and I will talk about living fearlessly versus fearful. If you look at demographics, you can see promotion-based and prevention (loss) based. Around 85% of the population is of the prevention-based mindset and are more motivated by fear. I believe the most successful people are looking at the possibilities space - they are motivated by what they can have in their lives. These people are fearless. This does not mean they don’t have fear, this simply says these people overcome their fear to move forward and be successful.

Dr. John identifies traits of those who are fearless, including humility, exceptional generosity, and gratitude for who they are and what they have. These people also have the half-full glass in life. He also talks about how we can become our fantasy in the context of learning to become who we want to be. You can “act” by bringing out the best of your character and the best in every one of your staff at your practice.

We will dig into how to be bold and stand out for others to remember who you are in the world of vanilla interactions. There are endless opportunities to stand out, be bold, and fearless throughout your day.

We also learn about one of Dr. John’s patients, Laurie, who, after receiving veneers, said, “I feel like I finally look pretty!” and how Dr. John linked what she wanted with how she wanted to be bold.

Listen in to find out how to not offer excuses to yourself. Dr. John’s staff understands that he does not accept excuses for himself, and he expects his team to follow his example. Excuses equate to living fearfully. When you live with excuses, you cannot succeed in whatever you are trying to accomplish. How to take the time to ask great, fearless questions of your patients when you don’t understand their “why.” When you are fearless to ask about people’s lives, they will stay with you because you have asked the critical questions of your clients.

Learn how to be fearless and be the inspiration for others to follow. When you are fearless, you can set consistent goals and parameters for yourself. Decide how you want to show up and the type of practice you wish to have in the dentistry profession.

Take this opportunity to be bold and bring fearlessness into your life!

This is the Think BIG Dentistry Show where your hosts Dr. John and Marilee, will show you how to give your indecision and confusion a back seat to decisive, goal-driven decisions to move you forward. Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We’ll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Today, Dr. John and I will talk about the power of curiosity and how the power of curiosity relates to your practice. Curiosity promotes action and implementation on our listeners, and this is what Dr. John hopes to instill in each and everyone who is listening to this episode.

I first start off by asking the question: are you open and curious, especially about your practice? Curiosity can be smothered out of us when we grow up. Adults in our lives tell us how to act and respond and to not ask questions. We are taught to provide answers; therefore, we lose our creativity. The team member can bring us concerns or questions, and we tend to answer them as if our power is being challenged. Getting into habits of easy questions and answers is the opposite path of curiosity.

We will dig into how to cultivate great questions and co-discover answers with others, especially children. When you’re curious, this curiosity activates a different part of our brain. Curiosity has the power to defuse stressful situations. For example, when a patient leaves a bad review, we can defuse the review by bringing the patient into the practice and giving them a pleasant experience. Ask them why they had a bad experience and make a better visit for your client. Asking your client more lateral questions about your patient, such as what is bothering them about their teeth, is being curious about their customers. Making this behavior a practice gives you a deeper understanding of your clientele

We also learn how to learn your patient’s vision for their future. How would a new smile makes them look and feel a year from their visit? How does your patient picture? Do they have more self-confidence? Ask your patient, how do you think we can get there? Your patient will come up with the treatment plan! Next, celebrate their one year out with your patient!

Listen in to find out why there is no lid on curiosity and how practicing this mindset can improve your personal dentistry and your practice. Next, train your financial staff on how to play a role in creating how they can get what they want for their dream and vision. Why doing the work combined with curiosity has a more significant impact on performance than intelligence.

Take this opportunity to bring curiosity into your life!

Show Notes:

  • [02:39] I share my story of curiosity and enlightenment.
  • [03:50] Dr. John talks about curiosity-based studies.
  • [06:10] Are we squelching the curiosity of our team members?

  • [21:33] There’s no intellectual intelligence when it comes to curiosity.
  • [24:18] Invite your patients to share with you what they envision and how your financial team plays a role.
  • [28:51] Continuing the conversation with curiosity makes the conversation more real.
  • [30:43] Being curious about your future and cultivating curiosity among staff and patients.

This is the Think BIG Dentistry Show where your hosts Dr. John and Marilee will show you how to give your indecision and confusion a back seat to decisive, goal-driven decisions to move you forward. Where we will breakout of the mundane and normal ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We’ll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.

Today, Dr. John and I introduce the first episode of our show and our desire to connect with our audience using great content which relates to our audience.

I first start off by tagging Dr. John as a visionary. Why? I believe that Dr. John has the ability to see where dentistry is going and to see the potential inside the profession. In addition, I also see the ability of Dr. John to be able to identify the traits and characteristics on a personal level, which allow individuals to excel.

We will dig into how Dr. John encourages and inspires others to be visionaries. Dr. John states, “I love the potential of people”. He enjoys understanding others and sharing with others what he is seeing and the potential inside others. When he sees this potential in others and shows them their potential, they are often scared. He assists people to move through these feelings to be able to achieve their dream.

We also learn how others are not fulfilling their dreams by staying in the “middle ground” in their personal and their professional lives. The more one can achieve professionally, the easier the process to succeed personally. Build your vision - a goal that is compelling for you to achieve!

Ask yourself the following questions to build your vision:

  1. What do you expect your practice to achieve in the upcoming year?
  2. What does your goal look like and feel like?
  3. Are you being a leader and creating a buy-in of your staff for your vision?
  4. Do you believe you can achieve your goals?
  5. What actions are you taking to show you believe in your goal?
  6. What is standing in your way of achieving your vision and goals?
  7. Who is responsible for your success?

Listen in to find out how Dr. John creates his vision, dreams and goals. How he learned about changing people’s lives, getting them out of pain, and creating harmony in their quality of life. How Dr. John views FEAR (Face Everything And Rise), and even if you’re scared about making a decision, you can still move forward. Think big, dream big to become the enriched individual waiting to come out!
