Dr. Pang is a dentist and PMB practitioner in Neutral Bay, near Sydney, Australia. Dr. Pang completed his degree in Biomedical Science in 1994 from the University of Technology, Sydney, and then completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Sydney in 2002. He performs laser dentistry as well as PBM at his dental clinic, Cosmic SMile Laser Dental, and also is involved with Laser Therapy Sydney, a specialized PBM center. He is also a trainer for Fotona Lasers.

Lymphatic damage can be caused by many factors, but one of the most common is cancer, particularly breast cancer. Post cancer, lymphedema can cause patients to experience painful extremity swelling which affects their quality of life and can often lead to depression. It is a chronic condition that is difficult to manage with conventional treatments. Laser therapy is a fantastic tool for relieving lymphedema, but only if used properly.

Today Dr. Rountree and Kristi discuss a 2020 study on laser therapy and its mechanisms of “undoing” inflammatory arthritis and juvenile arthritis. Inflammatory arthritis is just one form of arthritis and it stems from an overabundance of cellular inflammatory signals without proper counterbalance of signaling. Cytokine signaling and T-cell function skew toward inflammation and tissue destruction rather than repair and healing. Laser therapy is an excellent tool for arthritis as it provides cells with photons for energy, stimulating the cellular mechanisms for repair and rejuvenation and reducing the inflammatory over-reaction.

Nearly everyone will experience lower back pain at some point. Proper management of acute episodes can prevent the onset of chronic pain. Proper management means following the guidelines, yet the research says practitioners in the US often use standalone steroids, surgical referrals, and opioid medications in non-concordant care. What are the guidelines? Are you compliant?

This episode directly follows-up episode 31 on opioid addiction and light therapy. The study being reviewed today was done by the same group of researchers and was published in August of 2021. Medication management of opioid use disorders tends to have problems like relapse and dropout, but photobiomodulation used on only one hemisphere of the brain, with or without buprenorphine, was found to be superior to sham in reducing opioid cravings. Listen to find out how they conducted this study and the factors they took into account.

In this interview, Dr. Rountree and Dr. Hedeya discuss neuropsychiatry, and how hyperbaric oxygen, laser therapy and neural exercise can be used for psychiatry and brain recovery.
Dr. Robert Hedaya is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Distinguished Fellow of American Psychiatric Association, and is certified as proficient in psychopharmacology by The American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. He has specialized training in psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Dr. Hedaya is a faculty member at the Institute for Functional Medicine, and has taught at The Walsh Research Institute and Georgetown University School of Medicine as well as through his own training programs. He teaches about Mood disorders, PTSD, Precision Medicine, Genetics, Methylation, Functional Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, Infectious Medicine and Toxicology, as applied to Neuropsychiatric disorders.
Dr. Hedaya has published three books and actively sees patients at The Whole Psychiatry and Brain Recovery Center in Maryland, where he and his team work with patients that struggle with anxiety, DM2, PTSD, fibromyalgia, fatigue disorders, cognitive decline, and traumatic brain injury using functional medicine and his proprietary HYLANE Program.
