In Matthew 4:19, Jesus gives one of the most life-changing invitations in history: “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” With just a few words, He invited ordinary fishermen into an extraordinary calling—and their “yes” changed the world.

This reminds us that invitations carry power. One invitation can open the door to hope, faith, and transformation. When we invite someone into our lives, to church, or to follow Jesus, we’re creating space for God to work.

The truth is, people are longing for connection. They’re waiting for someone to see them, reach out, and welcome them in. Just like the disciples, many will say “yes” when they’re invited.

So who in your life needs that simple, powerful invitation this week?

📖 Scripture Reading
Matthew 4:18–22 — Reflect on how Jesus’ invitation changed everything for the first disciples, and consider how your own invitation could impact someone’s life.

💬 Reflect & Respond
– Who has God placed on my heart to invite?
– How can I make my invitation personal and meaningful?
– What’s holding me back from extending the same invitation Jesus gave me?

Thanks for joining us as we continue our summer journey through Philippians!

In Philippians 3:14–21, Paul challenges us to keep pressing toward the goal—the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Joy doesn’t come from looking back at the past, but from moving forward with eyes fixed on Him. It’s not about being perfect, but about choosing the right direction.

This week, we’re reminded that joy grows in the pursuit. It takes focus to let go of distractions, release what’s behind us, and live as citizens of heaven—shaped not by earthly things but by the hope of what’s to come.

Joy in the pursuit means trusting that Jesus is worth chasing, even when life feels tough. It means anchoring our hope in Him and encouraging each other to keep running the race that truly matters.

📖 Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:11–21 — Take some time this week to sit with this passage and ask how God is inviting you to root your joy more deeply in Him.

💬 Reflect & Respond
– Where have I lost focus on pursuing Jesus?
– Is there something in my past I need to release so I can move forward?
– Who can I walk alongside—or invite to walk with me—as we follow Christ together?

In Philippians 4:1–7, Paul calls the church to stand firm in the Lord, pursue unity, and live with joy. He reminds us that gentleness should mark our lives because the Lord is near. Instead of letting worry take over, we’re invited to bring everything to God in prayer—with thanksgiving—trusting that His peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

This kind of peace isn’t tied to circumstances. It comes from knowing and resting in the presence of God. As we stand together, pray faithfully, and keep our eyes on Him, we find the strength to face whatever comes.

Read Philippians 4:1–7 this week and reflect:
– Where do I need to replace worry with prayer?
– How can I be a peacemaker in my relationships?
– What would it look like for God’s peace to truly guard my heart?

Thanks for joining us this week as we continue our summer journey through Philippians!

In Philippians 3:14–21, Paul calls believers to press on toward the goal—to pursue the upward call of God in Christ Jesus with focus and endurance. He reminds us that true and lasting joy isn’t found in where we’ve been, but in where we’re going. It’s not about perfection, but direction.

This week, we’re reflecting on how joy is found in the pursuit. It grows as we let go of distractions, forget what’s behind, and move forward with eyes fixed on Jesus. Paul challenges us to live as citizens of heaven, shaped not by earthly things but by the hope of what’s to come.

Joy in the pursuit means trusting that Jesus is worth chasing, even when the road is hard. It means anchoring our hope in Him and encouraging others to run with us toward what truly lasts.

📖 Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:11–21 — Take time this week to read or revisit this passage and reflect on how God may be calling you to guard your joy by rooting your life in Him.

💬 Reflect & Respond

– Have I lost focus on pursuing Jesus?
– Is there something in my past I need to forget in order to move forward?
– Who could I follow or encourage to run this race of faith together?

Thanks for joining us this week as we continue our summer journey through Philippians!

In Philippians 3:1–11, Paul urges believers to rejoice in the Lord—but not without a strong warning: be on guard. Our joy is easily threatened when we place our confidence in status, accomplishments, or spiritual performance. Paul reminds us that lasting joy can only be found in Christ, not in what we’ve done but in knowing Him deeply.

This week, we're reminded that joy must be guarded. Not by striving harder, but by letting go of false security and holding tightly to Jesus. When we count everything else as loss and make knowing Christ our greatest gain, our joy becomes secure—unchangeable even in life’s hardest seasons.

Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:1–11 — Take time this week to read or re-read this passage and reflect on how God might be calling you to guard your joy by rooting your life in Him.

Reflect & Respond

– Have I placed my faith fully in the finished work of Jesus Christ alone?
– Have I released my grip on my own good deeds as the basis for being right with God?
– Am I actively committing my life to knowing Jesus more deeply as my Lord?

Thanks for joining us this week as we continue our summer journey through Philippians!
In Philippians 2:20–23, Paul highlights Timothy’s heart—someone who genuinely cares for others and puts their needs before his own. His example reminds us that joy is often experienced through faithful friendships, small acts of service, and showing up for one another. When we open our hearts, loosen our grip on control, and let others in, we create space for joy to grow even in hard seasons.

This week, we're reminded that joy isn't always about what we feel—sometimes, it’s about how we choose to love, support, and walk with others through life’s challenges.

Scripture Reading
Philippians 2:20–23 — Take time this week to read or re-read this passage and reflect on how God might be inviting you to experience joy through connection, care, and surrender.

Reflect & Respond

Who do you need to invite into your life this week? Ask them for help or prayer.

Who can you show up for and serve in a tangible way?

Where do you need to loosen your grip on your plans or begin embracing the new reality you are facing?

What sorrow do you need to finally bring to Jesus in prayer—and maybe even share with someone you trust?

Thanks for joining us this week as we continue our summer journey through Philippians!
In Philippians 2:3–8, Paul invites us to discover joy through humility—by putting others first, serving without seeking recognition, and following the selfless example of Jesus. This kind of humility isn’t about thinking less of ourselves, but about shifting our focus outward. It’s in that surrender—valuing others above ourselves and choosing the path of love—that we find deeper joy and meaningful connection.

Scripture Reading
Philippians 2:3–8 — Take time this week to read or re-read this passage and reflect on how Jesus’ humility can shape your actions, relationships, and joy.

Reflect & Respond

How do you typically define humility? Has that definition changed after reading this passage?

What brings you joy right now—and how might God be inviting you to share that joy with others?

What would it look like this week to follow the example of Jesus in a specific relationship or situation?

Thanks for joining us this week as we continue our summer journey through Philippians! In Philippians 2:1–13, Paul invites us into a life marked by humility, unity, and obedience—traits that restore joy and strengthen our relationships across generations. As we adopt the mindset of Christ, we find that joy isn't based on circumstances but on a shared purpose and a deep connection to God's love and one another.

This week’s conversation explores how different generations can learn from and encourage one another in faith. Whether you're young or seasoned, joy is possible when we walk in love, serve together, and stay rooted in Christ.

Scripture Reading
Philippians 2:1–13 — Take time this week to read or re-read this passage and reflect on how God may be calling you to live differently through it.

Reflect & Respond:

What brings you joy right now?

How do humility and service restore joy in your life?

Have you experienced connection or mentorship across generations?

What does it look like to have the same mindset as Christ in your daily life?

Thanks for joining us this week as we continue our summer journey through Philippians! In Philippians 1:12–30, we see Paul’s deep confidence in God's love even in hardship, and his call for believers to live boldly in that love. Through his example, we’re reminded that experiencing God’s love personally empowers us to stand firm, love others well, and find courage and unity in community—no matter the challenges we face.

Scripture Reading
Philippians 1:12–30 — Take a moment to read or re-read this passage during the week and to reflect.

Reflect & Respond:

Have you ever been in love?

Do you feel loved?

Do you know how loved you are?

How does Paul find joy while he is wrongfully imprisoned?

Exploring Psalm 119

Being open and honest in life is exceptionally difficult. We have a hard time interpreting our hearts and minds, much less communicating what's going on inside us with God and others. The book of Psalms can help us grow in not only understanding ourselves but can help us learn how to communicate what's going on to God and others. In this book of poetry, we see the full range of human emotion on display. The authenticity and transparency can be shocking at times. But, we learn that we don't have to filter our feelings or clean ourselves up before coming to God. Instead, he can help us deal with our real lives. He can handle our life as it is, unfiltered.

We all want to live a better life. We want solid relationships and to live with purpose and conviction. Although the specifics vary from person to person, there are character qualities that we all want to encompass. We all would like to be known for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. If we're honest, pursuing these characteristics in and of themselves can lead to a lot of frustration with minimal progress. What if we didn't have to change on our own? What if we became intentional about inviting God into our lives to change? Sounds simple, but what gets in our way? This week we continue with our series: Empowered: Living a Life that’s Fully Charged. Matt and Diane dive into a fruit that seems rather easy to define, but poses so many questions and challenges to live out: Faithfulness. Join in and discover what makes a family’s legacy – like a ring or a dogtag or a long marriage – an example of faithfulness in action. You won’t want to miss out on the personal stories they share about how faithfulness has both challenged and blessed them in their own lives, and how understanding it can bless yours as well.

This week we continue with our series: Empowered: Living a Life that’s Fully Charged. After last’s week message about peace, it seems that this week’s dive into Patience would offer a new direction. Far from it! “When peace is disrupted, patience is needed.” Join Matt and Diane as they pull that idea apart with Rhythm Community’s Sr. Pastor, Matt Fogle, from Mesa, Arizona. Learn how our life’s rhythms can add or distract from our peace, and our ability to be patient. And, you won’t want to miss the difference between Rhythms and Ruts – the good, the bad and the ugly of both.

This week we continue with our series: Empowered: Living a Life that’s Fully Charged. We are focusing in on peace, one of the fruit of the Spirit that Paul writes about in Galatians 5.16-17. Peace is certainly a topic on the top of many of our minds as we read and hear the headline stories each day; here in the US, and across the globe. But God teaches in His Word that peace does not have to allude us if we seek God in the midst of what looks like turmoil – both in our world and in our hearts. Tune in as Diane and Matt take a deeper dive into this relevant and important spiritual challenge.

This week we began a new series: Empowered: Living a Life that’s Fully Charged. Based on Galatians 5.16-17, we dive deeper into this idea of living our lives for Jesus in the context of the kind of love that God has for us. Join us as we discuss this with Dr. Philipp Kenneson, professor for 26 years at Mulligan College in Tennessee and author of several books, one of which we will be referring to, entitled Life On The Vine. Come for the information, but you’ll stay for the inspiration on this one.

This week in our series, Things Jesus Never Said, we finished up in John 21 with the story of Peter and Jesus walking on the beach together. It was a powerful conclusion to the teachings of the Book of John. It also brought to a conclusion our Master Class taught by Drs. Lee and Pat Magnus who took us deeper into John each week with insights and themes that new – or even seasoned - readers to this book might have missed. They join us on our podcast this week to wrap up our observations and learnings from this book, and talk about suggestions for next steps for those who want to continue to study the Bible.

If Jesus loves us all, why do some people have it easier? Shouldn't life be fair?

Series Overview:

Jesus gets blamed for a lot of things he never said. He never said life would be easy or fair or even just. Believing he did say these things and more have changed how a lot of people think about him and even people’s willingness to be in a relationship with him. This series will take a look at five popularly misquoted things Jesus didn’t say and help us discern what he actually taught.

This week in our series, Things Jesus Never Said, we will go deeper into the misconception that when we believe in Jesus we are freed from suffering. God never said that, but we’ll talk in-depth about what He did say: that He will be with us in the midst of our suffering. Joining us this week is our ministry friend, Rachel Short, from Project 938 Church, who helps us grasp how suffering and God’s peace can co-exist, and what we can do to take hold of that truth.

Books: Disappointment with God, P. Yancey https://tinyurl.com/25t5k7fk

This book points to the odd disparity between our concept of God and the realities of life. Why, if God is so hungry for relationship with us, does he seem so distant? Why, if God cares for us, do bad things happen? What can we expect from God after all? Yancey points us beyond life’s disappointments and the cynicism they can breed to a stronger, wiser faith, a confidence in God’s deep love for us, and a thirst to reach not just for what God gives, but for who God is.

Not a faint memory, but happening right here and now, spiritual living takes place in the present; the Spirit meets us in the ordinary. These inspirational reflections by Henri Nouwen succeed in convincing us that God’s presence is reliable.

If I'm loved by Jesus, does this mean he will always keep me out of harms way? If I go to him, will he do things my way?

Series Overview:

Jesus gets blamed for a lot of things he never said. He never said life would be easy or fair or even just. Believing he did say these things and more have changed how a lot of people think about him and even people’s willingness to be in a relationship with him. This series will take a look at five popularly misquoted things Jesus didn’t say and help us discern what he actually taught.

This week in our series, Things Jesus Never Said, we explore how doing ‘what makes us feel good’ is not always the wisest way to go. Drawing from the story of Jesus and the accused adulteress, Marc Lucenius of Project 938 Church gives us insight on the feelings of shame and guilt based on his work with people in the Celebrate Recovery program. Join us to learn how much these emotions have to do with our spiritual growth, and how we can work towards freeing ourselves.

Lament is one of the ways that we worship God, but it is not a way that is easily understood. On this podcast, we dive into what place songs of lament have in our walk with God, particularly their use – or non-use - in our churches today. We discuss with our guest, singer/songwriter Seth Brown, why that is, and why we need to consider intentionally making them a part of both our corporate and personal worship.
