Hello and welcome to Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust, a podcast where we chat about all things Disney by reviewing films, testing our trivia skills, discussing the latest news, and ending every episode with a top 4 ranking.
We had hoped to return with our regular episodes by now but our current job situations are preventing us from having time to get together to record. We still plan to get back to our regular episodes as soon as we are able. Kerry is busy adjusting to her new teaching situation in these weird pandemic times and Cori’s work has her working longer hours than normal on an important study.
In the meantime we may be releasing shorter episodes here and there and may also stream these and other content on our friend’s podcast Twitch channel twitch.tv/1geek411.
You can stay up to date with when those happen on our Facebook, Faith Trust and Pixie Dust - Podcast and our Titter @FTPD_Podcast.
If you have any ideas for future episodes or topics we can discuss please let us know through those channels as well. Also, please share us with your fellow Disney nerds. You can find us wherever you listen to podcasts and on our website 1geek411.com.
Remember, “All you need is Faith and Trust, and a little bit of Pixie Dust”
Thank you and we’ll see ya real soon.

“Feature Film” – George of the Jungle
George of the Jungle is a goofy comedy based on the 1967 cartoon series and classic “jungle boy” type stories of orphaned boys being raised in the jungle by the animals (Tarzan, The Jungle Book, etc.) It tells the story of heiress and ahead-of-her-time travel vlogger named Ursula venturing into the wilds of Africa. Her abhorrent fiance Lyle (Sandman from Spider-Man 3) attempts to get her to return home, but Ursula continues her trek in the wilderness, where she encounters the “white ape” George - an oddly clumsy, but athletic and sincere man - raised by the denizens of the jungle, who saves her from a lion. They bond in George’s treehouse after the rescue.
When Ursula’s guides and Lyle encounter the pair, through a mixup involving a gun-shaped lighter, Lyle accidentally shoots and injures George.
Ursula immediately takes George home to the states to care for his injuries, and there is a huge culture clash when George tries to adapt to his current surroundings.
Despite being in love with Ursula, George is persuaded by Ursula’s horrible mother to go back to the jungle, and Ursula pursues to tell him she loves him.
In the meantime, Lyle has somehow gained control of a radical organization and attempts to come between the two and force Ursula to marry him after all, but is ultimately foiled and we close on a scene of George and Ursula together in the jungle with their clumsy (like his father) son.

“Feature Film” – Big Hero 6
Synopsis
To enroll, he signs up for the school's showcase and presents his project: microbots, swarms of tiny robots that can link together in any arrangement imaginable using a neurocranial transmitter. He is accepted to the school but before he can celebrate a massive fire suddenly breaks out in the showcase hall and Tadashi rushes in to save Callaghan, the only person left inside. The building explodes moments later, killing both.
Later, a depressed Hiro, in mourning for Callaghan's and Tadashi's death, inadvertently activates Baymax, the inflatable healthcare robot that Tadashi created. The two find Hiro's only remaining microbot and follow it to an abandoned warehouse. There they discover that someone has been mass-producing the microbots, and are attacked by a man wearing a Kabuki mask who is controlling them. After they escape, Hiro suspects that the fire that claimed his brother may not have been accidental and in fact started by the man in the kabuki mask to cover the theft of the microbots.

● “Feature Film” – The Good Dinosaur
○ Synopsis
■ Luckily for young Arlo, his parents (Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormand) and his two siblings, the mighty dinosaurs were not wiped out 65 million years ago. When a rainstorm washes poor Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) downriver, he ends up bruised, battered and miles away from home. Good fortune shines on the frightened dino when he meets Spot (Jack Bright), a Neanderthal boy who offers his help and friendship. Together, the unlikely duo embark on an epic adventure to reunite Arlo with his beloved family.
○ Film Trivia – IMDB
■ The Good Dinosaur (2015) experienced multiple production issues. The film was in production for six years and it suffered from creative differences, story problems, Pixar multitasking between film productions, and a quality slump the studio suffered from Cars 2 (2011) to Monsters University (2013). Director Bob Peterson was removed from the project in the summer of 2013, just under a year before the film's original release date in May 2014. Peterson moved on to another project, while John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich, Mark Andrews, and Peter Sohn stepped in temporarily to work on various sections of the film. In November 2013, due to further delays, Pixar laid off sixty-seven employees of its twelve hundred-person workforce, following the closure of its satellite studio in Canada a month before, when about eighty employees had been laid off, officially to refocus Pixar's efforts at its main headquarters. "For Pixar, it was a dramatic event", said Jim Morris, the studio's General Manager and Executive Vice President of Production. "It was tough on the company. Most studios would have said, 'The movie's fine. It's not bad.' And it wasn't bad; it just wasn't great. We wanted to have a great movie." On October 21, 2014, Peter Sohn was officially named the new director. The story was then re-worked, and some major changes included lowering the age of the protagonist and adding the concept of nature itself being the main antagonist. While John Lithgow still remained cast as Poppa in the film (he would later be replaced), he acknowledged the fantastic changes in the script and said that "(The film's) gonna be better than I ever imagined."

● “Feature Film” – Tinker Bell (Video 2008)
○ Born from a baby’s laugh and carried by the wind to Pixie Hollow in Neverland, Tinker Bell learns she is destined to be a Tinker fairy. She hears all about the amazing things the nature fairies get to do to bring spring to the mainland and is excited to go see it. Using her talent she creates devices she intends to take to the mainland to help her fellow fairies. Upon learning the upsetting news that tinker fairies do not go to the mainland, she asks her friends to teach her their nature talents, hoping she can go. None of her attempts are successful and she seeks Vidia (a fast-flying/wind fairy) for help and she purposefully sabotages Tinker Bell. The situation quickly turns into chaos, ruining the preparations the other fairies have made, preventing spring from coming on time. When Tinker Bell confesses her fault in the destruction to Queen Clarion, Vidia accidentally lets it slip that she put Tinkerbell in the situation to begin with. Tinker Bell takes initiative and invents things to help speed up production so spring can start on time. These things are successful and the fairies disembark for the Mainland. Fairy Mary, the leader of the Tinker fairies, discovers the music box Tinker Bell repaired and suggests that she go to the mainland to return it to the little girl who lost it. Tinker Bell gets her wish to go to the Mainland and returns the music box to a little girl who turns out to be Wendy Darling.
○ Mae Whitman – Tinker Bell, Kristin Chenoweth – Rosetta, Raven-Symone-Iridessa, Lucy Liu-Silvermist, America Ferrera-Fawn, Jesse McCartney – Terence.
○ 6 films in the series
■ Tinker Bell, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, Secret of the Wings, The Pirate Fairy, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast
○ Film Trivia – IMDB
■ The first Disney film to feature Tinker Bell in a speaking role
■ Sold 668,000 copies in its first day of DVD release, about 22% more than expected.
■ As a marketing tie-in with Southwest Airlines, a Boeing 737 was decorated and named "Tinker Bell One". Flight attendants wore fairy wings and awarded prizes to passengers in a Tinker Bell trivia competition.
■ The movie was considered to be around 80% finished when Pixar merged with Disney. Pixar's John Lasseter demanded significant changes to the plot of the movie. The original version was set in a London where Never Land had disappeared and all children had lost their imagination. The movie would have ended with the fairies going to see a band called "The Pixies Chicks".
■ The song that plays on the ballerina music box that Tinkerbell delivers to young Wendy, is actually the song "You Can Fly" which is featured in Disney's Peter Pan.

● “Feature Film” – Tarzan 2
○ As Tarzan is growing up with Kala, he struggles to fit in and to keep up. He and Terk play games involving the mythical monster “the Zugor”, which will definitely not come back later in the movie.
As the band of Gorillas led by Kerchak is travelling, Tarzan is once again unable to keep up and falls down a ravine. Kala is unable to reach him, and is devastated. Tarzan actually is able to save himself, but overhears other gorillas saying it was probably for the best that he had died, so he runs away.
After running away, Tarzan makes his way to “The Dark Mountain”, where he is found by two gorilla brothers and their controlling mother, Mama Gunda. They tell him that they can’t leave because they are trapped by the Zugor.
Tarzan finds out by accident that the Zugor is a solitary silverback, who pretends to be a monster to defend himself. He agrees not to tell anyone if Zugor will let him stay and will help him find out what he is. After a long series of tests, they come to the overwhelmingly corny conclusion that Tarzan is not an ape, and is, in fact “A TARZAN!” just as Kala finds out that Tarzan did not die and comes to find her boy. Zugor marries Mama Gunda for some reason.
○ Film Trivia - IMDB
■ won a DVDX Award for Best Original Score (in a DVD Premiere Movie)
■ Kala tickles Tarzan’s toes the way he tickles Jane’s in the original
■ Kala and Kerchak are the only two that reprise their original roles (Glenn Close and Lance Henriksen)

● “Feature Film” – Frozen 2 - Wikipedia
○ King Agnarr of Arendelle tells a story to his young children, Elsa and Anna, that their grandfather, King Runeard, established a treaty with the tribe of Northuldra by building a dam in the Northuldra's homeland, the Enchanted Forest. However, a fight occurs, resulting in Runeard's death. The battle enrages the elemental spirits of earth, fire, water, and air of the forest. The spirits disappear and a wall of mist encases everyone in the forest. Runeard's son Prince Agnarr barely escapes with the help of an unknown savior.
○ Three years after her coronation,[b] Elsa celebrates autumn in the kingdom with Anna, Olaf the snowman, Kristoff the ice harvester, and Kristoff's reindeer Sven. When Elsa hears a mysterious voice calling out to her, she follows it and unintentionally awakens the elemental spirits, which forces everyone in the kingdom to evacuate. Grand Pabbie and the Trolls colony arrive to Arendelle and Pabbie informs that they must set things right by discovering the truth about the kingdom's past.
○ Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven embark to the Enchanted Forest, following the mysterious voice. After the mist parts at Elsa's touch, the air spirit, in the form of a tornado, appears and sweeps everyone in its vortex. Elsa stops it, forming a set of ice sculptures. The sisters discover the sculptures are images from their father's past and that their mother, Queen Iduna, was a Northuldra who saved Agnarr. They encounter the Northuldra and a troop of Arendellian soldiers who are still at conflict with one another before the fire spirit appears. Elsa discovers the spirit to be an agitated magical salamander, and calms it down. Elsa and Anna form a truce between the soldiers and the Northuldra by explaining that their mother was Northuldran and their father was Arendellian. Elsa later learns the existence of a fifth spirit who will unite people and the magic of nature.
○ Elsa continues to head north with Anna and Olaf, leaving Kristoff and Sven behind. They find their parents' shipwreck and a map with a route to Ahtohallan, a mythical river told by their mother to contain all explanations of the past. Elsa decides to travel alone while sending Anna and Olaf away to safety. Elsa encounters and tames Nokk, the water spirit who guards the sea to Ahtohallan. Reaching Ahtohallan, Elsa discovers that the voice was the call of Iduna, and that her powers were gifted by the magic of nature because of Iduna's selfless act of saving Agnarr, making Elsa the fifth spirit. Elsa then learns that the dam was built as a ruse to reduce the Northuldra's resources because of Runeard's dislike of the tribe's connection with magic, and that Runeard was the one who initiated the conflict by killing the leader of the Northuldra. Elsa sends this information to Anna before becoming frozen, due to venturing into the most dangerous part of Ahtohallan, which in turn causes Olaf to fade away.
○ Anna receives Elsa's message and concludes that the dam must be destroyed for peace to be restored. Anna finds and awakens the sleeping gigantic earth spirits, and lures them towards the dam, which is destroyed by boulders hurled by the giants. Elsa thaws out and returns to Arendelle, stopping a flood from the destroyed dam. As the wall of mist disappears, Elsa reunites with Anna and resurrects Olaf. Kristoff proposes to Anna, who accepts. Elsa explains that she and Anna are now the bridge between the people and the magical spirits. Anna becomes the new Queen of Arendelle, while Elsa becomes the protector of the Enchanted Forest who regularly visits Arendelle as peace is restored in all the lands.
○ In a post-credits scene, Olaf visits Elsa's ice palace and tells Marshmallow and the Snowgies[c] about the events he experienced.
○ Film Trivia - IMDB
■ Young Elsa is voiced by Mattea Conforti, who portrayed Young Anna in the Broadway adaptation of Frozen.
■ In the beginning when young Anna and Elsa are playing with snow figurines, a figure resembling Baymax from "Big Hero 6" can be spotted in addition to one resembling Totoro from "My Neighbor Totoro”
■ In a flashback, Prince Agnar says he's reading a book by "some new Danish author." This is probably an allusion to Hans Christian Andersen, whose fairy tale, "The Snow Queen," inspired the plot of the original film.
■ Since Elsa was never barefoot in the original movie, the animators didn't bother giving her toes then. They had to remodel her feet with toes for the sequel.

● “Feature Film” – The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
○ Young Clara needs a magical, one-of-a-kind key to unlock a box that contains a priceless gift left to her by her recently deceased mother. The family goes to a Christmas Eve ball, hosted by the children's godfather and skilled engineer Drosselmeyer. At this ball Clara argues with her father and runs off, finding a golden thread leads her in a Narnia-esque way to another land where she finds the key to the box her mother left to her, but it is taken by a mouse. While clara pursues the mouse, she meets a soldier named Phillip, and the regents who preside over three realms. They tell Clara they are at war with the Land of Amusements which they refer to as "the Fourth Realm" led by the evil mother ginger. One of the regents, The Sugar Plum Fairy, explains that Clara's mother Marie created this world as a young girl, and that she animated everyone with a machine that can turn toys into real people. Sugar Plum says this machine can be used to defend the three realms against Mother Ginger, the Regent of the Fourth Realm, but it needs a key matching the one for Clara's box. Clara and Phillip must now enter a fourth realm to retrieve the key and restore harmony to the unstable land.
○ Film Trivia - IMDB
■ At the beginning of the ballet telling the story of the Four Realms, the conductor mounts the podium and conducts an orchestra appearing in silhouette. This is a tribute to the Disney classic Fantasia (1940), which included a segment based on "The Nutcracker Suite."
■ Marie was name of the heroine of E.T.A. Hoffmann's original Nutcracker tale. She was renamed Clara in Alexandre Dumas' adaptation, on which the ballet was based. This movie's heroine is Clara, daughter of Marie.
■ The Nutcracker's name, Hoffmann, comes from the author of the source story: E.T.A. Hoffmann.
■ Third collaboration between Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen since Pride & Prejudice (2005) and Anna Karenina (2012).
■ Jack Whitehall: as a Harlequin palace guard. Whitehall has a history of publicly stating his love for Disney and his wishes to be cast in any role for their films.
● Comedian Lion King rant (Language warning) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfcApowdmxs
■ The score follows the ballet's story, hinting what is about to happen throughout the whole movie. For example: When Clara first crosses the threshold to Mother Ginger's fair while leading the group of soldiers, the true villain of the film is foreshadowed, as the music in the background is a fragment of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from "The Nutcracker Suite." and also Towards the end of the movie, Clara's father recognized the song from the egg as the song to which he shared his first dance with Marie. This song is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Pas de Deux," which is played in the ballet when the Nutcracker is dancing with Clara for the first time.

● “Feature Film” – Escape to Witch Mountain
○ Tia and Tony are two orphaned youngsters with extraordinary powers. Lucas Deranian poses as their uncle in order to get the kids into the clutches of Deranian's megalomaniacal boss, evil millionaire Aristotle Bolt, who wants to exploit them. Jason, a cynical widower, helps Tia and Tony "escape to witch mountain," while at the same time Tia and Tony help Jason escape the pain of the loss of his wife.
○ Film Trivia - IMDB
■ The character of Tia in the flashback sequences was played by Kim Richards' real-life younger sister Kyle Richards.
■ Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann, who play the children in this movie and in Return from Witch Mountain (1978), appeared in a scene in Race to Witch Mountain (2009). Eisenmann is "Sheriff Antony" in the bar, and Richards is "Tina" the waitress. In this movie and its 1978 sequel, their names were similar: "Tony" and "Tia", respectively.
■ At one point during the fight scene between Tony and Truck, Dermott Downs punched the bat so hard, it hit Ike Eisenmann. In some scenes, despite the make-up department's best efforts, you can see a greenish bruise under his left eye.
■ Knowing that it was an integral part of the story, Ike Eisenmann (Tony) bought a harmonica and taught himself to play it, unaware that he would be dubbed in the end by professional harmonica player Tommy Morgan.
■ The primary cat who portrayed Winky was temperamental and difficult with which to work, particularly for Ike Eisenmann (Tony), who sustained numerous cuts and scratches from the feline.
■ The Pine Woods Orphanage was actually Peninsula School of Creative Education in Menlo Park, California. The secluded sixty-room mansion was built in 1880 and converted into a school in 1925. There are countless stories of hauntings in the mansion, which were played up in the original press materials for this movie.
■ The marionettes from the playroom sequence continue to be used for performances at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, which has been designated as a historic landmark in Los Angeles, California.
■ The name of the mysterious item that Tia carried around, which contained a map, was a "star case". Tia's star case, which housed the map to Witch Mountain, had an additional purpose in the novel. In Key's novel, Tia was mute (but communicate telepathically with Tony) and carried pencils and paper in the star case to write notes to people.
■ In one scene, Tony and Tia go on an outing to see the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

■ When tickets for The Rise of Skywalker went on sale this past Monday, media outlets were quick to publish stories that the film’s pre-sales outpaced Avengers: Endgame for its first hour on Atom Tickets. This caused the TLJ fans to claim victory over the boycotters and tout that their side has won. However, while the first hour sales may have been really high, the total first-day sales fell behind Endgame. It’s still impressive though and those first-day sales are 2.5 times what TLJ did.

● “Feature Film” – The Shaggy Dog (1959 - not the 2006 Tim Allen version)
○ LOOSELY based on The Hound of Florence by Felix Salten (author of Bambi), a German novel, which is, frankly, just very upsetting
○ The Shaggy Dog is the story of dog-hating mailman Wilson Daniels, and his two sons - apparently the only 2 child actors Disney had access to prior to 1965. Kevin Corcoran as younger son “Moochie”, and Tommy Kirk as the lead, “Wilby”. Wilby Daniels is an awkward teenage inventor that seems to be capable of financing his best friend “Buzz”’s romantic life, but has not been able to date himself. He wants to change this when he and Buzz both catch sight of their new French neighbor Francesca, - Francesca needs to go to the local museum, so Buzz and Wilby trip over themselves to take her. While at the museum, they split up, and Wilby runs into Dr. Plumcutt, a former customer on his paper route. Dr. Plumcutt tells Wilby all about the Borgia family, their sinister reputation, and their secret dog magic. Afterward, Wilby knocks over a display of antique jewelry, only to realize that he has stolen, ahem, “acquired” a Borgia ring and smuggled it out of the museum in the cuff of his pants. Wilby reads the inscription on the ring aloud and inadvertently turns himself into a dog - which happens to be identical to Francesca’s “Bratislavan sheepdog”, Chiffon. Wilby returns to Dr. Plumcutt at the museum, who takes talking to a dog in impressive stride, and basically is told there isn’t anything he can do except perhaps an act of bravery to break the curse. Wilby switches uncontrollably back and forth between dog and boy, and manages to cause mayhem at a dance and discover a spy ring trying to steal government secrets led by none other than Francesca’s adoptive father. Through another long series of events, and the police refusing to listen to the Daniels family about the spies, and Wilby, in dog form, steals Buzz’s car and leads the police to the harbor, where the spies are escaping with Francesca in tow. Wilby tries to board the boat himself to stop them, but Francesca is knocked into the water and dog-Wilby leaps into the water and drags her to safety, breaking the curse (although no one actually realizes it, and all credit is given to Chiffon). Wilby’s dog-hating father is also commended for his role in the discovery of the spy ring, and is photographed with Chiffon for the paper - for an article about Chiffon being given a medal for bravery.
● Trivia
○ The initial release of The Shaggy Dog grossed more than $9 million on a budget of less than $1 million – an almost unprecedented return on a film investment, making it more profitable than Ben-Hur, released the same year.
○ This movie has been remade a few times - a 1994 TV version featuring Scott Weinger and Ed Begley Jr, which kept the same general story intact, and the aforementioned 2006 horror movie version featuring Tim Allen
○ “Shaggy” was actually an Old English Sheepdog named Sam - he was a pet, and was recommended for the role by his obedience trainer, William Koehler, who trained many animals for Disney movies, including The Incredible Journey, That Darn Cat, and The Ugly Dachshund.
○ Sam was prepared for the car chase scene by using rubber bands to keep his hair out of his eyes and running him around in a wheel barrow, gradually increasing the intensity and speed as he got comfortable with the situation. A custom seat was made for Sam, with fur-covered “mittens” attached to the steering wheel, and a matching fur-covered seatbelt that blended in with his body.
○ Some of the stunts, such as jumping off of the boat were done by a child or a little person in a sheepdog suit. (The child was Johnny Kirk, Tommy Kirk’s little brother)
○ Sam accidentally stepped onto Tim Considine’s eye during filming, and scratched it.

● “Feature Film” – Enchanted (2007)
○ This movie is an insane amount of nods to other movies to there is a ton of trivia I will need to limit myself.
○ According to director Kevin Lima, "thousands" of references are made to past and future works of Disney in Enchanted (2007), which serve as both a parody of and a "giant love letter to Disney classics". As Lima worked with Bill Kelly, the writer, to inject Disney references to the plot, it became "an obsession"; he derived the name of every character as well as anything that needed a name from past Disney films to bring in more Disney references.
○ The animated scenes were not actually done by the Disney Animation wing. It was done by James Baxter Animation, the studio responsible for Curious George
○ The first feature-length Disney live-action/traditional animation hybrid since Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).
○ One of the elderly male dancers appeared in Mary Poppins (1964) as a chimney sweep.
○ When Prince Edward is knocking on apartment doors in search of Giselle, the very first door is opened by Judy Kuhn, the singing voice of the title character of Pocahontas (1995).
○ While Giselle is looking in the fish tank "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid (1989) is playing as background music. In the same scene, Jodi Benson plays the secretary - she also played the lead as Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989).
○ When Prince Edward is flipping through TV channels in the hotel room, the soap opera he watches features Paige O'Hara, the voice of Belle in Beauty and the Beast (1991)
○ At the beginning, Giselle is creating a mannequin of her 'true love'. The outfit it is wearing is never worn by the prince - but it is worn by Robert at the ball, near the end of the film.
○ As we see Giselle progress into a modern woman, so does her wardrobe. She begins in the over-the-top wedding gown, then to the very princessy long gown, then to a very girly but short dress, and finally, into a modern evening gown. In the same way, Robert's wardrobe regresses from suit and tie to more casual clothing, and ending in a very prince-like outfit at the ball.
○ At the end of Robert and Giselle's dance, when Nancy cuts in, the camera angle makes it look as though she is wearing a crown. This foreshadows that she will become the future ruler of Andalasia when she returns there and marries Edward.

● “Feature Film” – Tron (1982)
○ Trivia from IMDB
○ When talented computer engineer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) finds out that Ed Dillinger (David Warner), an executive at his company, has been stealing his work, he tries to hack into the system. However, Flynn is transported into the digital world, where he has to face off against Dillinger's computerized likeness, Sark, and the imposing Master Control Program. Aided by Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) and Yori (Cindy Morgan), Flynn becomes a freedom fighter for the oppressed programs of the grid.
○ The film was disqualified from receiving an Academy Award nomination for special effects, because the Academy felt at the time that using computers was "cheating".
○ To inspire the actors, arcade games were placed on the production sets and could be played during downtime. Jeff Bridges apparently was the most adept at the games and found it hard to tear himself away from a game to shoot a scene.
○ Although the film was an initial failure, the arcade video games based on it proved to be a tremendous hit and actually out-grossed the film.
○ Many Disney animators refused to work on this movie because they feared that computers would put them out of business. In fact, 22 years later Disney closed its hand-drawn animation studio in favor of CGI animation. Hand-drawn animation was ultimately resumed at Disney at the behest of new creative director John Lasseter, also head of Pixar- ironically a computer animation company.
○ In the initial scenes with Flynn at the arcade, he is playing a game he invented called Space Paranoids. The game he is playing bears remarkable resemblance to 3-D graphics game engines, which would not be invented for ten more years.
○ The state-of-the-art computer used for the film's key special effects had only 2MB of memory and 330MB of storage
○ The programmers' cubicles at Encom were shot using the actual programmers' cubicles at The Walt Disney Company's Information Technology group. A matte painting was used to expand the area to a size more appropriate to a software company.
○ The ENCOM laser bay was real. It was actually the target bay for the twenty-beam SHIVA solid-state laser facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. It was used for nuclear fusion research in the late seventies and early eighties, and was capable of delivering up to 28 trillion watts of power on target.
○ All the live action that occurred inside the computer was filmed in black and white, and colorized later with photographic and rotoscopic techniques.
○ HIDDEN MICKEY: At 1:12:26 in the "solar sailer" sequence, you'll see, for a brief moment, the silhouette of Mickey Mouse on the ground made to look like part of the terrain.

● “Feature Film” – Bolt (2008)
This film is about a German Shepherd puppy adopted by a little girl named Penny. Penny is also a child actress, and when we fast forward 5 years, Bolt actually believes he is actually a lab-enhanced superdog in the spy movie like setting of the TV show he and Penny star in. He spends every filming believing that he is actually saving Penny from the evil green-eyed man.
One day when filming ends at a cliffhanger, Bolt freaks out, thinking Penny is actually still in danger and needing to be rescued. He manages to find his way into a shipping crate and ends up in New York, where he begins his mission to find the green-eyed man and save Penny. In New York, he meets a streetwise alley cat named Mr. Mittens, that is coerced into helping him find his way back home to Hollywood. Along the way, the two bond and find a new friend - Rhino, a hamster and a huge fan of Bolt. Along the way, Bolt has to come to grips with the fact that he is not really a superdog, and that maybe it’s okay just being a dog. And eventually, just being a loyal “regular dog” helps him find penny and save her from a studio fire before they retire together to just be friends instead of co-stars.
○ Trivia
○ First Disney animated feature conceived and produced in 3-D. (Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons were converted to 3D after the fact)
○ Chloe Moretz voiced THE ENTIRE FILM before they got Miley Cyrus on board
○ Developed by Chris Sanders, the creator of Lilo & Stitch - Bolt was originally a VERY different film
○ In order to properly animate Rhino, the crew adopted a real hamster which they called Doink and filmed it from beneath while it was walking on a sheet of Plexiglas. Thus they were able to see how Rhino would walk in his plastic ball.

● “Feature Film” – The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Hardworking and ambitious, Tiana dreams of one day opening the finest restaurant in New Orleans. Her dream takes a slight detour when she meets Prince Naveen, who has been turned into an amphibian by evil Dr. Facilier. Mistaking her for a princess and hoping to break the spell, Naveen plants a kiss on poor Tiana -- thereby turning her into a frog as well. The pair hop along on an adventure through the bayous to seek the help of a powerful voodoo priestess.
○ Trivia
○ The first Disney movie to feature an African-American princess.
○ This is Disney's first 2-D film in which all of the voice actors do both the speaking and singing parts since, Beauty and the Beast (1991).
○ The animation style was influenced primarily by Lady and the Tramp (1955), for the city scenes, and Bambi (1942), for the bayou scenes. Those films were, in the directors' opinion, "the peak of animation in the classic Disney animation style."
○ This was supposed to spearhead a return to hand-drawn animation but subsequent research after the film's disappointing box office run indicated that audiences thought it was old-fashioned.
○ First Disney film since The Lion King (1994) to have more than one song be nominated for Best Original song at the Academy Awards. ( It Lost Best Animated Picture to UP)
○ For much of the film, Naveen calls Tiana "Princess" and later "Waitress", symbolizing his objectification of women as a whole. He doesn't call her by her real name until after the song 'Ma Belle Evangeline', when he starts to fall in love with her.
○ The last line of Dr. Facilier's Friends On the Other Side song is "You got what you wanted but you lost what you had", which is in direct contrast to Mama Odie's song about finding who you are and learning what you need; accentuating the evil side vs good side of voodoo. It means you may have gotten what you wanted but you lost what you already had that you needed.

● “Feature Film” – Toy Story 4
○ Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. The adventurous journey turns into an unexpected reunion as Woody's slight detour leads him to his long-lost friend Bo Peep. As Woody and Bo discuss the old days, they soon start to realize that they're two worlds apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy.
○ Second Chance Antiques was one of the hardest locations for the Toy Story 4 (2019) team to create, because of the breadth of items that had to fill out the cramped second-hand store. "Fortunately, at Pixar, we have a big 'backlot' of objects from all of our feature films," production designer Bob Pauley told The Hollywood Reporter.
○ Duke Caboom is obviously inspired by real-life stunt man (turned kid's toy) Evel Knievel, right down to his Canadian garb spoofing Knievel's red-white-and-blue costume. But it goes further; Knievel's motorcycle toy was advertised on commercials like the one seen in Toy Story 4, most with the toy performing impossible feats that set expectations that the real thing could never match.
○ "It was a big treasure hunt because we have a lot of interesting history, and we also took the opportunity to plant some fun Easter eggs," added supervising technical director Bob Pauley
○ Gabby Gabby is a nod to the popular Chatty Cathy dolls of the early to mid '60s
○ Among the myriad items on shelves at the antique shop, Bing Bong's rocket from Inside Out (2015) and Ellie and Carl's house from Up (2009) can be seen.
○ Duke Caboom, a Canadian action figure toy who first appeared in Jack-Jack's crib in Incredibles 2 (2018)
○ The carnival worker has a tattoo of the pizza planet truck on the back of his leg.

● “Feature Film” – Charlie the Lonesome Cougar
● Charlie the Lonesome cougar is the story of an orphaned cougar cub found and raised by logger Jess Bradley. Charlie grows up in the logging cap begging scraps from cook Potlatch and dodging his nemesis, the fox terrier Chainsaw. Good-natured Charlie is friendly and curious, but this gets him into a lot of trouble, destroying multiple kitchens and just causing general mayhem because of his size and not understanding that he is a cougar not a person.
When Charlie’s misbehavior causes too much trouble in the logging camp, Jess has to keep him penned up, but bored Charlie manages to escape and meet up with a young “cougarette”. Charlie gets lost, and has to spend time out in the wild, learning to survive and to fear humans after a farmer takes a couple shots at him. When Charlie returns to the logging camp and behaves aggressively, Jess calms him down, but realizes that Charlie can’t live among humans anymore. He takes Charlie to live in a wildlife sanctuary, where he once again meets the lady cougar and settles into a happy, wild-life with her.
○ Trivia:
i. Last project approved by Disney himself
ii. First project without any assistance from Disney
iii. Four cougars played Charlie
iv. The “log rolling” scene was added later, after inspiration from a real cougar
v. The “log flume ride” wasn’t a real cougar, and you can tell if you look closely

● “Feature Film” – Meet the Robinsons
○ Based on the book “A Day With Wilbur Robinson” Orphaned Boy genius Lewis gives up hope of any his inventions working when his Memory Scanner, which he built to try to find his mother, breaks at the science fair. It is then Lewis meets young time-traveler named Wilbur Robinson who tells him he needs to fix the Memory Scanner or it would screw up the space time continuum forever. Lewis needs convincing that Wilbur is from the future so Wilbur whisks Lewis away in his time machine. The boys spend a day in the future with Wilbur's eccentric family and learn what really makes family all while being pursued by a mysterious sinister man in a bowler hat.
○ Trivia:
i. Started as a live action project
ii. After their agreement with Pixar expired, Disney formed the new Walt Disney Animation Studios, of which this is the first film.
iii. After reading the screenplay, director Stephen J. Anderson actively lobbied to direct this movie. As a child of adoption himself, Anderson personally experienced many of the emotions (questions about belonging, being wanted, etc) that Lewis expresses in the film.
iv. The character of Lewis was voiced by both Daniel Hansen and Jordan Fry. Daniel Hansen voiced Lewis at the beginning of the film's production, but had to be recast when his voice “broke” and when Lewis needed things changed, they had Jordan Fry re-dub some segments. It is noticeable in some parts of the movie.
v. The Robinsons' topiary garden is inspired by Walt Disney World. Large, intricate topiaries (generally of Mickey and other easily recognizable characters) have long been a staple of Disney World. Also, the Robinsons' garden features colored circular "bounce" pads; during the scenes where the characters bounce on these, they bounce in the same way as the "jumping" fountains outside the Imagination! pavilion at Epcot (which also jump from colored circles).
vi. Director Stephen J. Anderson and actor Ethan Sandler voiced a significant amount of the cast between them. Many of these characters interact; consequently, the two spent much time in voice-over sessions together. Stephen played Bowler Hat Guy / Grandpa Bud / Tallulah and Ethan played Doris / CEO / Spike / Dmitri / Laszlo / Fritz / Petunia
vii. When Wilbur is revealing his family, he says his dad looks like Tom Selleck. Tom Selleck indeed provides the voice for Wilbur's Dad.

● “Feature Film” – Dinosaur
○ Trivia: (Theme - don’t make this like the other movies)
i. In order to separate this from the similar movie The Land Before Time (1988), the film was intended not to have any dialogue at all, but Michael Eisner of Disney insisted they include it.
ii. The backgrounds in the movie are actually superimposed photos of exotic tropical locations such as Tahiti and Hawaii.
iii. One original concept for the dialogue in the film would have seen the characters not moving their lips and beaks to talk but rather as voice-overs, similar to Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993).
iv. Initially, the directors were to use the popular Tyrannosaurus as the film's antagonistic predator but at around the time of production, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) was released, which depicted a somewhat softer, motherly side to the classic dinosaur. Thus, a Carnotaurus was used. However, they still changed the Carnotaurus's size and ferocity to that of a Tyrannosaurus. In real life, Carnotaurs were smaller than Iguanodons.
v. At an official $130 million (unofficially $200 million) it is the most expensive movie released in 2000.
vi. The original planned opening shot, showing the meteor moving through space, was cut when an identical opening shot was used in Armageddon (1998).
vii. Unfortunately the Plot ended up like Tarzan in many ways
viii. The attraction called Dinosaur (previously called Countdown to Extinction) at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park was originally to be created/opened at the same time as the movie's release as part of the company's "synchronicity" between branches of the WDC, but due to the overwhelming technology development required to begin production, the film's opening was delayed. Even though it was started after the film was in-production, the theme park ride opened first (by almost 18 months) before the movie's release; hence, the ride's name change later.
ix. First Disney Animated Feature Film to be Computer Animated instead of Traditionally Hand Drawn. Starting with Chicken Little (2005) 5 years later, all films in the Animated Feature Film line up would be 3D Animated, with the exceptions of The Princess and the Frog (2009) and Winnie the Pooh (2011)

● “Feature Film” The Black Cauldron
● Centuries ago, in the land of Prydain, a young pig keeper named Taran is given the task of protecting Hen Wen, a magical future seeing? fortune telling?, all knowing? pig, who knows the location of the mystical black cauldron. This is not an easy task, for The Evil Horned King will stop at nothing to get the power of the cauldron.Taran along with the young princess Eilonwy, the bard Fflewddur Fflam, and a wild creature named Gurgi seek to destroy the cauldron, to prevent the Horned King from ruling the world.
● Trivia:
● The movie is loosely based upon the first two books in Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles ("The Book of Three" and "The Black Cauldron").
● The first Disney animated movie to not contain any songs, neither performed by characters nor in the background.
● This movie is notable for being the first full-length Disney animated movie to incorporate computer graphics imagery (CGI) in its animation. The CGI was utilized for a lot of the special effects, which included the bubbles, a boat, a floating orb of light, the Cauldron, the realistic flames seen near the end of the movie, and the boat that Taran and his friends used to escape the castle. The dimensions and volume of the animated objects were fed into a computer and then their shapes were manipulated through computer programming before they were transferred as physical outlines the animators could work on. Despite this movie being released a year before The Great Mouse Detective (1986), both were in production simultaneously, and the computer graphics for the latter were done first. When Producer Joe Hale heard about what was being done, the possibilities made him excited, and he made the crew from The Great Mouse Detective (1986) create some computer animation for his own movie. For others effects, Animator Don Paul used live-action footage of dry ice mists to create the steam and smoke coming out of the Cauldron.
● Tim Burton, worked as a Conceptual Artist on this movie
● The first Disney animated theatrical movie to receive a PG rating, and had been the only one to have that rating up until The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Dinosaur(2000).
● There is an urban legend that, despite the movie's failure in the U.S., it was popular in Japan, so much so, that the creator of the Legend of Zelda series, Shigeru Miyamoto, based a lot of the game's elements on this movie.
● When the Horned King activates the power of the Black Cauldron, the sound of a space shuttle launch was used.

● “Feature Film” The Great Mouse Detective
○ Released on July 2nd 1986. Basil, the rodent Sherlock Holmes, investigates the kidnapping of a toy-maker and uncovers its link to his arch-enemy, Professor Ratigan.
○ Thoughts and Reactions?
○ Fun Facts
■ The clock tower scene is the first major use of computer animation (the clock's gears) in a feature-length animated film. The same scene was also the first time traditionally-animated characters were put inside a computer-generated background.
■ The "Let Me Be Good To You" segment was almost cut because though brief, the lyrics and some animation was considered "too risque" for a Disney animated family film, the animators avoided a PG rating and got the scene kept in by appealing to the censors on the grounds that the segment was a Cabaret song and harmless in lyrics, and because the character animated singing it was a mouse, not a human and thus not questionable.
■ Basil of Baker Street is named after Basil Rathbone, who played Sherlock Holmes in 14 films. By strange coincidence, Basil was also a name used by a disguised Holmes in Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventure of Black Peter."
■ Alan Young had performed a near-perfect Scottish accent as the voice Scrooge McDuck for the 1977 Disneyland Records adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" (which he also developed and wrote). He repeated the role of McDuck in Mickey's Christmas Carol(1983), and was a natural for the Scottish accent of Hiram Flaversham.
■ The first meeting between Basil and Dawson where Basil guesses he came from Afghanistan and gives a complicated explanation how he assume it, mirrors first meeting between Holmes and Watson in Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet" (the first Holmes novel) where Holmes does the same thing.
■ Production took only one year to complete thanks to the use of computers.

○ Dumbo is not doing well at the box office
■ "Oh man, they could teach a film course on why Dumbo didn't work. It was like Tim Burton was going through the emotions. It felt like an expensive, uninspired story told very blandly without Disney or Burton's signature magic," says box office analyst Jeff Bock with Exhibitor Relations. "What a missed opportunity. I doubt we'll see a Burton budget like this again."

● “Feature Film” The Reluctant Dragon - Info from IMDB
○ Released on June 20th 1941
○ Humorist Robert Benchley attempts to find Walt Disney to ask him to adapt a short story about a gentle dragon who would rather recite poetry than be ferocious. Along the way, he is given a tour of Walt Disney Studios, and learns about the animation process.
○ According to supplemental information on the DVD this film was rushed into production to help keep the studio solvent. The start of WW2 closed Europe to American movies and this cut off much needed revenue for Disney. When it was released it did save the studio but it was not well received and was heavily criticized by the public who were expecting a full animated feature.
○ Features How to Ride a Horse (1950), the first of the Goofy "How-to" cartoons. When narrator John McLeish was brought in to record the narration, he was asked to read it in a very straightforward manner, as if for a serious documentary about horse riding. He was shocked when he was told that the narration he recorded would be used in a Goofy cartoon.
○ In the sound effects department the workers are creating sound effects for a piece of film with the train Casey Junior. Casey would pop up in Disney's next film, Dumbo (1941). Likewise in the art department, the animators are making sketches for "Dumbo". Bambi also makes a minor appearance in this film, a year before Bambi (1942) was released.
○ Most of the 'animators' shown in the film were actually actors hired to portray animators. And this film, showing the Disney animation studios as a happy, coherent family, was released at the worst possible moment, when half of the actual animators went out on strike. The strikers frequently picketed theaters showing the film, sometimes holding up a large cardboard sign depicting Walt Disney as a dragon, labeled 'The Reluctant Disney.'
○ Maquettes in the model department include Jiminy Cricket and the drunk cuckoo clock from Pinocchio (1940), characters from Fantasia (1940) including Chernabog, a black centaurette that Robert Benchley takes with him, and the Knight from The Reluctant Dragon (1941).
○ In the "Baby Weems" sequence, Mount Rushmore is seen with only George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The faces were still under construction until October 1941 and this movie was released before it was finished, which is why Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson are missing.

● “Feature Film”
○ Bedknobs and Broomsticks
○ Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a 1971 Disney film starring Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson set in WWII England. Charlie, Carrie, and Paul are children displaced from London by German bombings and are put into the reluctant care of Miss Eglantine Price - an apprentice witch learning her craft via a correspondence course.
○ The children find out Miss Price’s secret when they see her flying on a broom and attempt to blackmail her. Miss Price buys their secrecy with a transportation spell that allows their bed to travel anywhere in the world and explains that she is trying to use her powers to end the war. However, in a bit of an ironic twist, it appears as though the war has put a premature end to her course. Still determined to use magic to end the war, Miss Price and the children take the bed to London to find her teacher, Professor Emelius Browne.
They find Mr. Browne, but it turns out that he is nothing but a street magician turned con-artist who had no idea that his “spells” actually work. When Miss Price asks about the spells, he says he got all of them from a book he found - but he doesn’t have the entire book.
Delighted at the prospect of his spells actually working and the idea of a duo performing act starring himself and Miss Price, Mr. Browne leads the group to the Portobello Road marketplace in hopes of finding the rest of the book - in their search they come across the mysterious criminal the Bookman - who has the other half of the book, which reveals that the spell is written on a medallion on the mystical Island of Naboombu.
Our group takes the bed to Naboombu and meet the King - who is wearing the sought-after medallion and is very upset that they don’t have a referee for their soccer match. Mr. Browne agrees to referee the match and attempts to use the opportunity to get a better look at the medallion.
After a chaotic soccer match, the group manages to retrieve the spell and return to England. The “substitutiary locomotion” spell makes inanimate objects move in a lifelife way, and as the group returns and finds a Nazi invasion in England, Miss Price uses the spell to create an army of inanimate objects and fend off the Nazis.
Afterward, she is pleased with her success, but has decided to give up magic and continue looking after the children. Mr. Browne is inspired to do something more important and joins the army (promising to return to Miss Price after ;) )

● “Feature Film”
○ Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride
○ Lion King 2 tells the story of a Lion Pride divided. Lionesses who followed scar happily in the first movie have been exiled to the Shadow lands and are led by a lioness named Zira. The rest of the lions live at Pride Rock with Simba as their leader. Simba’s daughter Kiara meets Zira’s son, Kovu, who was picked by scar to be his heir. The two try to become friends but are drawn apart by their fighting parents. This gives Zira the idea to train her son to fight so that one day he can go back to pride rock under the guise of wanting to be friends/part of their pride and once he gets their trust he can kill Simba. What Zira didn’t plan on was actual love blossoming between Kiara and Kovu. Who together try to make their broken tribe one again.
○ Fun facts:
Just as the first movie is said to be based upon "Hamlet," the sequel has elements of another Shakespeare play, "Romeo and Juliet."
○ Most of the original cast reprise their roles from the original, with the notable exceptions of Rowan Atkinson, who was replaced by Edward Hibbert as the voice of Zazu. Jeremy Irons was also replaced by Jim Cummings as the voice of Scar in this film, as he originally did for the last few lyrics of the song "Be Prepared."
○ The opening song, "He Lives In You," was also used in the Broadway version of The Lion King.
○ Suzanne Pleshette and Jason Marsden portray mother and son, Zira and Kovu. Three years following this film, the two actors went on to voice characters with a similar relationship in the Oscar-winning Hayao Miyazaki's animated feature, Spirited Away(2001).

Today we are going to be talking about our feature film: 101 Dalmatians , Oscar Nominations, and then we’re going to get down to business and rank our favorite Animated Disney Dogs.
● “Feature Film”
101 Dalmatians is based on a 1956 book written by Dodie Smith.
Pongo, a well intentioned Dalmatian living in London, finds love for both himself and his “Pet” Roger. Later, when his mate Perdita has puppies Cruella DeVille an old friend of Anita, Roger’s wife, wants to buy them for nefarious reasons. When Anita and Roger refuse she has them stolen by two petty thieves.
Pongo and Perdita go out to find their puppies and through the help of the twilight bark, save 99 puppies including their own children from being turned into coats by Cruella
○ Fun Facts:
■ At the time of its release in January 1961, this was the biggest grossing animated film of all time saving the animation studio after Sleeping Beauty flopped
■ the first Disney feature film to use photocopying technology (Xerography), which made an animated film with this much visual complexity possible. It also set the visual style of Disney animation (a scratchy, hard outline look) for years until the technology advanced enough (with the production of The Rescuers (1977)) to allow a softer look. ( Disney hated the sketchy look)
■ The scene where the puppies suckle from some friendly cows attracted a lot of criticism at the time of release as it was deemed to be inappropriate for a children's film.
■ Disney took many liberties with Dodie’s book but she absolutely loved them and believed Disney had improved upon her story. ( She had secretly wanted Disney to make a movie of her book along and was pleased when Disney snapped up the rights right after it was published)

Today we are going to be talking about our feature film: The Sword in the Stone, the new Aladdin teaser trailer, and then we’re going to get down to business and rank our favorite Disney Christmas movies.
The Sword in the Stone
The Sword in the Stone is a Disney animated film based on the T.H. White novel The Sword in the Stone
It is about the search for a successor to the British throne after the death of King Uther Pendragon. A sword is found embedded in a stone and anvil with an inscription that proclaims that whoever can pull the sword is to be the rightful king. Many try, but no one is able to pull the sword, and with the passage of time, it is forgotten.
In the meantime, the boy Arthur, called “Wart” meets the wizard Merlin and his companion, the highly educated owl Archimedes, and with their guidance, learns the importance of education as well as valuable life lessons about justice through the use of Merlin’s magical shapeshifting powers.
Acting as a squire, Wart finds the sword in the stone while looking for a sword for his brother Kay to use in a tournament, and, without knowing what it is, pulls the sword from the stone. When the identity of the sword is realized and it is discovered that Wart was the one who pulled it, he is made King - wiser and better equipped to rule using the lessons he learned from Merlin
