• Up to 1000 instances in a scale set (general purpose virtual machine sizes only)
• Ability to manually add VM instances to the scale set
• The option to spread instances across fault domains automatically, or specify a fault domain
• Place on demand and Spot VMs in the same scale set
• (New) Define a VM profile and specify instance count
• (New) Automatically scale out and scale in based on metrics, schedule, or AI prediction (private preview)
• (New) In guest patching that respects high availability / FD constraints
• (New) Automatic extension updates
• (New) Automatic instance repair/replacement of unhealthy instances
• (New) Terminate notification for on demand and Spot VMs
• (New) Secure by default networking - customers must explicitly define outbound connectivity
• (New) Improved scale out and scale in reliability, latency, and elasticity

Company officials are predicting that Microsoft will be building 50 to 100 new datacenters each year for the foreseeable future.
Microsoft currently operates more than 200 datacenters. Its currently operating and planned datacenters are located in 34 countries worldwide, networked with more than 165,000 miles of subsea cable, officials said. The company is expecting to add datacenters in at least 10 more countries in calendar 2021, with Malaysia being the most recently announced. Microsoft typically provides customers with Azure, Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 services in all of its cloud datacenters.
And last month, officials pledged to offer Azure Availability Zones in every country in which Microsoft publicly operates by the end of calendar 2021, plus offering Availability Zones in all new Azure regions Microsoft launches going forward.

Today we’re announcing Microsoft Azure has increased the scope of its HITRUST CSF certification to include 172 Azure offerings across 49 Azure regions. Azure’s HITRUST certification letters are available on the Service Trust Portal and include the full list of HITRUST CSF certified Azure offerings and regions.
Azure has partnered with the HITRUST Alliance to deliver the HITRUST Shared Responsibility Matrix for Microsoft Azure. Azure customers can leverage Azure’s HITRUST CSF certification to inherit controls and apply them to their own assessments.
Azure customers can also accelerate their HITRUST CSF deployments by using Azure’s HITRUST Blueprint. This blueprint helps customers deploy a core set of policies by defining a repeatable set of standards, patterns, and requirements enforced across Azure resources.
