I returned to Taiwan, not as a resident this time, but as a visitor. My journey in Taiwan has evolved from simply living there, to exploring and sharing my travel experiences with others. Now, I've taken on the role of a curator, crafting unique and fulfilling travel experiences for those who venture to the destinations I've explored.
I used to believe - many many years ago - that Taiwan was a great place to live but not necessarily a top travel destination. I couldn't have been more wrong – Taiwan is an incredible place to visit, and it's equally extraordinary to call home. Reconnecting with Taiwan has allowed me to refocus my passion. My aim is to become one of the world's premier travel planners, specializing in the destinations I know best, and to host or produce the most impactful travel podcast globally. Traveling to stunning destinations like Taiwan continues to inspire and transform me. Embracing my past and its role in shaping my journey has been pivotal in becoming the person I aspire to be.
My time in Taiwan was heavily focused on leadership, including building and leading several leadership teams, opening the first bar and art gallery of its kind, in addition to starting a travel company aimed at helping many people from my community experience their first international travel journeys. After 12 years, I made the decision to return to the USA, which marked the beginning of a new chapter that included marriage and a deep dive into my passion for travel. This return journey has raised numerous unanswered questions and reaffirmed my sense of self. I delve into these experiences and more in the latest episode of The Black Expat Podcast.

Additionally, we discuss several of his travel stories and discuss the hidden layers of cultures, people, and places, shedding light on the transformative power of travel. Join us for an amazing conversation on this episode of The Black Expat Podcast!

Being an expat during the pandemic has brought its fair share of problems. A lot of us feel forgotten. Some of us are suffering from survivors guilt. Those of us that returned home and are still expats at heart are struggling with the decision to return to our life abroad, or ride the pandemic out with our families.
It’s the holidays. A time of year that’s gets harder year end and year out as expats get older and remain far away from family. The difference between now — pandemic holiday — and before is simple. The choice.

The Black Expat Podcast welcomes the co-host of Girls on the Way, Tionne, to discuss her new podcast, her journey from Taiwan to America, and exciting goals and projects she is working on for the future. We touch on the differences between living in Taiwan vs America, the “Taiwanese Dream” as it relates to Taiwanese people either studying or living in America, cultural differences with customer service, and more. As a Black Expat living and working abroad in Taiwan, I learned a lot from Tionne sharing her experiences as a Taiwanese Expat living and working in America during the a pandemic, presidential election, and more.

The United States elections are underway. There's so much uncertainty, not just with elections, but with many things around the world. In this episode I touch on this uncertainty, but also the growth that comes with it. As an expat it's tough being far away from family, not knowing when you can make it home, or what the world will look like not only post presidential election but post COVID. Heavy things like this are best processed out loud, and together. As The Black Expat, I'm honored to process with you.

The journey to 100 episodes has been more than an honor. I've interviewed amazing people from all walks of life and from all over the globe. I've had amazing podcasts, and some not so great ones (let's keep it real). This episode is special. It's dedicated to everyone who's taken time out of their lives to listen to my podcast, be a part of my journey, or share their lives and perspectives with me on my podcast.
I'm truly fortunate to have been able to have my siblings and mother join me for this podcast episode. Without them, I would not be where I am today. My younger sisters journey as a black woman thriving through grad school, then moving to another part of the country on her own as a phenomenal black woman is one I was very excited to share. We also dive into what's it like growing up with an expat as a sibling and the impact it has on family.
100 episodes in, and so many more to go. Always Forward.
