The Syracuse Orange news never stops, so we’re here to talk about it! In this week’s edition of the Podcast, the guys talked about...

Andy and Christian talk realignment, and Andy argues for the ACC being patient as actually a good thing.

What’s the deal with the New New Big East?

HOMEFIELD APPAREL (Use Promo Code “NUNES23” for 15% off first purchase)

We talk and speculate on Garrett Shrader’s elbow injury and his “pitch count” for his return.

We have a real QB backup battle supported by the pitch count on Shrader which is probably the most interesting competition in camp.

Stefon Thompson’s still injured. Is this bad for the Orange? Or is this Very Bad for the Orange?

This was a win for the defense, which is a fitting cap on the season for the Mob.

Ok, we finally talk about that Syracuse Men’s Basketball week that was straight from hell.

By now, I think most of you know the drill: the Syracuse Orange football team lost a game, the men’s basketball team lost a game, and so who rises up to provide Orange sports fans joy? Why men’s soccer and women’s basketball, that’s who!

In this week’s edition of the Podcast, the guys talked about...

Syracuse Men’s Soccer defeated Penn 2-1 in 2OT and we were totally not nervous at all.

Next up: No. 14 Cornell, one of the two teams Syracuse lost against this season. No pressure.

Syracuse Men’s basketball lost to Colgate, again, and we’re not happy. It’s the first time since 1962 that the Orange have lost two straight to ‘Gate.

We decide to just open all the wounds and talk about our generation’s Syracuse Loss (tm)

HOMEFIELD APPAREL (Use promo code NUNES for 10% off your first order)

Syracuse lost to Wake Forest 45-35 on Saturday night, and it was a rough night for the offensive line. Which was offensive.

This loss was on the defense, which is really annoying considering how solid they’ve been most of the season.

What do we make of this season?

For many fans, this week was the spiritual ending to a basketball season that has caused more pain than any in their lifetimes. It may not have had the sharp pangs a buzzer beater in a big game possessed, but the slog of losing continued to end the regular season for the men, and the postseason for the women. As usual, Christian, Steve, and Andy hopped on the Nunesmagician Twitch Channel on Saturday night to recap the week in Orange! In this week’s edition of the LiveCast/Podcast, the guys talked about...

We gather today to remember Syracuse basketball of 2021-22

Fun fact: for the second time in 3 years, the Syracuse Orange men’s program has the leading conference scorer but will (likely) miss the NCAA tournament. Woof.

The Syracuse Basketball Podcast signs off on 2019-20 with the inevitable news announced minutes before taping that Elijah Hughes would leave Syracuse for the NBA. In this uncertain coronavirus world, the NBA is on pause and college basketball cancelled Hughes' season instead of it ending on a loss.

The abrupt close was somewhat of a fitting ending for a player that arrived at Syracuse unable to play as a transfers as a team starving for offense still scrapped to the NCAA, somehow bowed out in round one a year later with Hughes, Tyus Battle and Oshae Brissett, then transitioned into one of the most turbulent season in Syracuse history while Hughes exceeded all expectations.

Bobby Manning looked back at Hughes' Syracuse career with Matthew Gutierrez and James Szuba, detailing the five things that stuck out about of the program's great players. Hughes doesn't leave alone. As a surge in transfers strikes college basketball, Jim Boeheim will lose more players than he ever has before. Is that an indictment on the program or a larger college trend falling especially hard on Syracuse?

We also discussed how much the world has drastically changed in the week or so since we last recorded and how the sports world changes without games. Thanks for following Bobby and James all season. Even though we didn't expect it to end the way it did, it didn't lack intrigue and Hughes was a massive reason why. Best of luck to him at the next level, and what do you expect the Orange to look like without him next season?

Syracuse played North Carolina as coronavirus concerns finally started really impacting U.S. sports. Early in the day, the NCAA declared that fans would not be in attendance of the upcoming tournament. Elsewhere, the NBA rapidly planned to go forward without fans until Rudy Gobert got diagnosed with coronavirus shortly after Syracuse took the court, triggering the NBA's suspension of the season.

The Orange stood up from a potentially season-derailing loss to Louisville and this team proves what's been evident since ACC play began, they're right there among the top of the middling teams. Whatever that's worth, it makes it interesting enough to watch this group. Only now it's too late to even talk ourselves into an NCAA Tournament at-large bid. James Szuba and Bobby Manning try and fail in this edition of the Syracuse Basketball Podcast.

That still doesn't mean the Orange aren't capable of pulling us back to the TV, with a stellar second half against Georgia Tech and a beatdown at Pittsburgh. Even Bourama Sidibe is joining the productive fold, filling the scoring gap Buddy Boeheim's struggles cast over the team.

North Carolina arrives for the Dome finale until the fall, starting a light finish to the regular season for the Orange on paper. They'll control their destiny for the five seed in the ACC Tournament, but whether due to the brand or Cole Anthony's return the Tarheels don't strike as a walkthrough. Syracuse's history against them, now having lost eight straight games back to 2015, doesn't bode well either. BC and Miami trips aside, the Orange still have one more test left before an intriguing postseason where the ACC (and probably NIT) have higher stakes than we're used to.

Call it a wrap. Syracuse's season officially went off the rails against Louisville in a blowout loss that capped the Orange's ability to build an at-large bid for March Madness. Elijah Hughes' incredible season and efforts through injury against Florida State and Louisville will only register as a blip in the program's history on the way to the NIT, unless they can pull off a stunning ACC Tournament victory. We aren't holding our breath anymore.

Three issues undermined this Syracuse season: aimless fouling, defensive rotations and rebounding. We dug into how all three led to a 1-5 stretch, and Jim Boeheim's epic rant against KenPom that was probably meant for NunesMagician. While the statistical hate didn't register with many, Boeheim hit on some valid points earlier in his Louisville presser. So we played agree/disagree, before previewing the Yellow Jackets' trip to Syracuse after allowing 97 points to the Orange in Atlanta. Don't count on that kind of game against streaking Georgia Tech.

We wrapped with recruiting reporter Jake Weingarten, who's known Dior Johnson since he was in elementary school. Johnson could change the prospects of Syracuse recruiting as one of the program's largest gets since Carmelo Anthony. Will he bring help? Will he come period? What's this mean for the future of the coaching staff. Find out at the end of the show.

Syracuse slipped by Oakland by 12 on Wednesday, but led by only single digits for most of the game. An inside look at their day in Central New York by Matthew Gutierrez revealed how the Golden Grizzlies entered the Dome fully confident they could beat a beleaguered Orange team and left feeling like they lost a game they should've won.

The Orange advanced to 6-5, with only two weaker non-conference foes left. Though they haven't lost to a bad team yet, their defense is littered with issues. So many that Oakland's coach said it wasn't the zone he was expecting.

Bobby Manning welcomed Brent Axe for all this, Jim Boeheim's rant against the crowd and a look ahead to North Florida on Friday.

"Anybody they play that just have decent interior play, they have an opportunity to have a career day against the Orange because the defense is not there," Axe said.

With ACC play digging into the non-conference schedule, will the Georgetown rivalry last for years to come? Does it even exist anymore? Jim Boeheim thinks it's a relic of the Big East, but Guti believes it still holds some merit.

Guti also discussed his recent work with The Athletic, including his documenting of Rob Long's cancer battle and PTSD that followed along with Trevor Cooney's battle against mental health after a friend died through suicide.

For Syracuse, a blowout win behind 97 points against Georgia Tech provides a chance for the season to turn around. The Pod discussed how Elijah Hughes can maintain his greatness to lead SU to more wins, without a wine discussion in the absence of Bobby. Learn more about your ad choices. Syracuse Basketball Pod live from Brooklyn, where Syracuse again squandered a New York City trip. Last year, the Orange suffered a similar setback but regrouped into conference play to reach the NCAAs. Now Kevin and others are already talking NIT. A 4-3 start marks Syracuse's worst since 1996, a similar season of rebuilding after a successful veteran core departed, but there are some attributes that could still make this team better despite their obvious shortcomings: bench play, rebounding and a fast-break defensive lapse that cost SU the Oklahoma State game. We dive into Bourama Sidibe's recent play, a setback for Joe Girard, Jalen Carey's departure via injury and Quincy Guerrier's progression. Learn more about your ad choices. Bobby Manning and James Szuba wrap their trip to Syracuse's media day and basketball scrimmage. What happened to the days of Jadakiss, the stage and Seth Greenburg? SU couldn't get the nets right for the skills competition, scratched the dunk contest and only a small crowd showed up to watch the team.  Marek Dolezaj was the story of the day. Lauded as part of Syracuse's veteran core and dishing passes as a secondary ball-handler, he could be crucial to the new-look Orange offense.  That stuck out most from the first impression. This is all new, fresh, albeit sloppy. Jalen Carey looked in control, Brycen Goodine annihilated the three-point contest and Buddy Boeheim, Joe Girard dueled at the end of the scrimmage. While Guerrier thrived in the skills competition and from outside. We break down each new aspect of the roster, and where everyone stands after our first glimpse. Syracuse made Andre Jackson the bedrock of what could become the final recruiting core of the Jim Boeheim era. We want him to coach John's son one day, but it's probably not possible.  So UConn's surprise victory set back the Orange not just for 2020-21, it also gives fresh programs a recruiting lineage to carry to ensuing class. Dan Hurley, Mike Hopkins and others began long-term programs in recent years. No matter how long Boeheim coaches, they're behind those teams in establishing what's next.  Whether that's good or bad depends on expectations. Boeheim and company can and will recruit strong classes of undervalued talent. WIthout a Jackson though, it's reasonable to question if there will be one last run at a title in this Boeheim era.  Those are some of the various layers Bobby and James dug into after a week of murmurs about Jackson to UConn concluded with his Wednesday decision. Another few weeks also brought news of California's college athlete payment law (for endorsements) and sanctions for Kansas and Georgia Tech. No NCAAs for the Jackets!? Bobby Manning and James Szuba from TNIAAM's basketball beat break down last week's schedule release. An overtime interruption of the release and Twitter leaks deepen the issues with the ACC Network launch.  Syracuse got loaded up with February challenges after their lighter non-conference stretch. We dove into a small window where the Orange have an outside chance to enter the rankings.  We dipped our foot into the Clemson weekend, and ask if the Duke game to begin February can compare as an event. Who does that Blue Devils squad have for this year anyway?  Then, the question of the week, do we give serious consideration to man-to-man joining the defensive rotation this year? By extension, will they even stick with deep rotations early on?  James remembers the Le Moyne loss, 10 years ago this November, that inspired the full-time switch to zone.
