Turned On Podcast: Recent Episodes

Angelike and David Norrie

We know what it’s like to tune out, so now it’s time to TURN ON, because despite all the modern luxuries of life, more and more people are claiming to feel unfulfilled, uninspired or alone. Why, if we're so connected, do we feel farther apart? As a society, we’ve been entertained and shown a million ways we can tune out; social media, gaming, virtual reality, binge watching among a few. We’ve been lulled to sleep by things which are more artificial than actual. The side effect of this amazing technological advancement we’re living through is that, despite all the advancements, we’re still left wanting more; more connection, more relationship and more meaning, especially when it comes to The Big Four (Faith, Being, Relationships, and Business). Being turned on means more interaction, more tangible experiences and renewing the rediscovery of the gifts we’re given and knowing how to use them.Being TURNED ON is to see with different eyes. It means breaking the dullness and darkness with light. On this podcast you will hear from David and Angelike as they openly share their ideas about how to flip the switches that get us back to feeling human again. They will shine a light into things that MATTER and TURN ON everything that has been disconnected or tuned out.We believe the world is looking to be Turned On, even those who may be so sedated they don’t even know it. Indeed there’s a stirring in the soul to uncover more of what it means to reconnect with our senses. It’s not out of reach, in fact most of the time it’s a simple flip of the switch which allows us to incorporate the necessary changes that will get our pulse beating again and create real transformation that leaves a true, not temporary, sense of fulfillment.

In this second installment in our tribute to the hardworking men and women who use their hands to build this great country of ours, Angelike and I get tremendous insight from our guests Brian and Karina Struble.

Karina fled communism in her youth, coming to America with just $80 and a guitar. She worked nights in fast food and learned English by day and would eventually land in corporate America and meet her husband Brian. She then transitioned to entrepreneurship, saying how grateful she is for the opportunity to pursue her biggest dreams.

Brian is a second generation painter who also worked in corporate America for Sherwin Williams until one day he decided he wanted to go from employee to owner. He and Karina work together now and have plans to teach others, not just the trade, but how to maximize potential in today's savvy world of the "Blue-Collar worker."

The Struble's story is one of risk/reward and faith in God. They will inspire you with their stories about commitment to God, family and hard work. Their story is the story of the American Dream personified. It's not without it's challenges, but it's what every working family will identify with, regardless if you work with your hands or not.

In this episode, David and Angelike make bold declarations in regard to three of the most popular self development statements that have been said over and over again during the last decade.

Words matter and often things are said at conferences or posted on social media that sound strong, that sound convicting, but when broken down may very well fall within an area of opinion that's outside the word of God.

They not only identify three of the most popular phrases, but try to give a Biblical counter-narrative to each. Perhaps you will agree. Perhaps you won't. Either way, the topic is important to discuss.

Kims turned on moment after 25 covers and accolades and God asked her “now what?”

The devil is in the extremes

The world has perverted the walk for excellence in our health

What really helped her make peace with her body and food and to help thousands of people.

“You got what you want, now what?”

God doesn’t want us perfect He wants us excellent

What Kim does to stand in the gap of the spiritual and the practical

Fitness taught her so much that has served her in building an empire

How to be bold for Christ in a world that so easily wants to cancel His message

striving apart from God

You have all of me but do I have all of you?

If God isn’t in it, you don’t want it.

25:40 God doesn’t clean out the whole closet, he takes out one hanger at a time

The definition of success is obedience

3 parts of success when walking with the Lord

While acquiring his doctorate degree, he built a private marketing firm that worked directly with CEO's of multi-million-dollar natural health and wellness centers to scale office systems, establish branding, and building effective Facebook and SEO marketing programs. During this time, Dr. David managed over $500,000 in marketing ad spend for over 40 separate businesses. He took this experience into the influencer marketing space in 2014, building health-based online educational programs, memberships and launch strategies specifically through website development, sales funnels, social media and digital marketing processes.

He is an innovative product and marketing strategist, bridging the gap between the vision and the strategic plan, designing specific products and processes that are scalable, providing long term revenue and growth.

Cassie Everson-Martin is the creative visionary behind Wanderlust Skulls. A mid-western wife and mother, she finally gave into the god given talents of her artistry in fall of 2016. And, the perfect canvas ended up being bone.

Cassie's journey from feeling like a lost SAHM and ex-retail worker to global art entrepreneur happened quickly when she began to fully lean into her faith, and understand that God makes no mistakes when he gives you talents to bless the world with. After ignoring the same idea that ate away at her for well over two years, she began, and never turned back.

Two years, 5 countries, and over 230 art pieces made with buffalo and longhorn skulls later, Cassie is on a mission to create incredible legacy art pieces that will inspire and elevate any space in your home. But more than that, she has found the need to help other artists (especially mothers) break the "broken artist" mindset and set out to use their unique talents, and understand their worth. Cassie is dedicated to helping break the barriers of old belief that too often take place in the mind of artistic creatives.

Management vs. Edification, how Network Marketing taught us how to praise others in order to achieve more

How edification helps us hone in on God’s gifting in our lives

Building your children’s character and confidence with words and praise.

Contrived and manipulative vs . authentic and genuine, there is a huge difference that people can see and feel

Following the favor so you will be motived to work in your strengths in your career and your marriage

A death-oriented culture of entertainment is sucking us dry with “inspirational entertainment” and other people’s “highlight reels” on social media.

Three rules for getting into the habit of edification

Do you think you’re slick? Is anybody buying the manipulation breath? Don’t wear that coat around me.

Don’t drop the ball. How to develop the relationship and create a culture in your home and business that is psychologically consistent and brings continued value.

The biggest mistake is thinking that your spouse doesn’t need your compliments because they get it in other places.

What if the world, what if congress, adapted a spirit of edification? What would life feel like?

Discipline, truth telling and constructive criticism are all part of your tool belt. Add in regular edification as well.

You’re not alone when things go wrong

Escape, evade and avoidance? How are you confronting your missteps?

When stress creeps in, allow yourself to sit in discomfort and ask why

Blame happens. Who are we blaming and what it takes to course correct

Replacing negative emotions with something positive to do a 180 in your day

Where is your emotional home? When you numb out the good with the bad.

How the emotions behind the emotion are truly the problem

Metaperception, the root cause of most of our stress

Being too attached to an outcome. The stories in your head are strongholds to let go of

Can you really make everybody happy? How being a people pleaser is a recipe for disaster

Suffering is completely optional, going from a perpetual sufferer to reclaiming victory

The things you are running from will eventually catch you if you temporarily push them aside

Everything has a season. God has a plan that is at the perfect time and perfect place.

Are you being “self-helped” to death? Applying somebody else’s recipe for success rather than the divine order

Kicking dirt. Yelling at God asking why me? Why at this moment? We all have these moments, don’t throw in the towel.

There must be a discipline in what you do. You cant play God but you can listen to him

There is a physiological response to our thoughts and that is where it becomes dangerous

Detours will occur, trusting is other roads to get you where youre going

The “take it or leave it” attitude, why being stubborn about “who you are” can leave you feeling very alone at the end of the day

Is it just a moment? Or is this something that has been festering in you, chasing you down for a long time. Its time to finally do something about it.
