Maggie Oates and Courtney Long…they are the band directors at Davenport West High School. The band there has been invited to perform on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., for the 100th birthday celebration of the memorial. They were the ONLY band selected in the state of Iowa and have a lot of fundraising to do, so the kids don’t have to pay their own way on the trip.
Shari Hoegerle of Impact Life, formerly Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. Shari talks about the reason behind the name change, and the importance of keeping blood donations up.

Iowa Works (most people think of this as the unemployment office)…there is an influx of jobs in Iowa and employers are desperately seeking qualified workers. Families Helping Families of Iowa discussed some of their upcoming programs in the month of July. Nahant Marsh discussed Summer camps and field trips and the importance of educating the public about the importance of Nahant Marsh to the eco-system in the Mississippi River as well as the importance of water conservation.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299 Ray Hamilton talks about a play about Rocky Bleier, an injured Vietnam Vet who worked his way up to being an NFL running back. Proceeds from the play benefited Chapter 299 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Noah Trusdell of River Action talks about some of the other Summer programs they’re holding to help educate the public about water conservation and our Mississippi River.
