I feel like we are very fortunate in our home to have gone through COVID-19 with relatively minor setbacks. My wife had tested positive for the virus but the results came back well after she started feeling better (took almost 2-weeks to get results).

The apostle Paul seems to just hit hard the Jews he is writing to in the book of Romans. They are missing something... it is faith.
This is a crazy time for our world, it is a scary time dealing with the virus. I think this will ultimately make the church stronger as we rethink how to fulfill our purpose in a different way (quarantined.)

In the book of First Thessalonians we have our famous verse in 5:17 - "pray continually" or some translations say pray without ceasing. This is in the middle of his final warnings to his audience about living the life we are called to live.

Israelites are about to enter the land that the Lord had promised them 40 years prior. He is now giving them instructions for when they enter and one of the items on the list is what to look for in a King.

Today was crazy busy, I recorded this podcast on the fly.
Following the rules vs. loving Jesus.
When you fully love and honor the Lord, give your life to Christ, you will please Him. You will turn from sin and build a relationship with Him.
All the while, you could follow the rules, be a decent human being, and still go to hell to pat for your sins.
We read the book of Galatians today.
There is so much to take away, I defintely did not do it justice.

Here the Apostle Paul is confronting many issues the church has, one thing is their beliefs and teachings that have been going on since he left the church in Corinth.
He emphasizes that Jesus Christ should always be the foundation, but also be aware of what you are building on it. Be sure to build the things that can last the fire.

The circumstances behind Jesus death and the timing of it clearly shows God's hand.
Jesus has his last meal, the celebration of the Passover, celebrating God freeing his people from captivity. It was through the blood of the lamb that saved His people from experiencing the death all other households experienced.
This is a the work of a God that is all powerful and all knowing. This is a God you can trust and seek comfort.

We can try to go more than one direction in our lives often, but in reality we only have one life to live. You can only spend it one time. After it is spent, you cannot get it back.
Jesus reminds us in Luke Chapter 9 the cost of being a disciple of his.

You cannot live your life for you and for Him at the same time. You can only have 1 master.

We start today reading through "Immerse" the "Messiah," I think I misspoke and called it the "message" ha.
Super excited to read through the New Testament with no interruption or distraction.
The Messiah Immerse bible starts with the book of Luke. There is a lot that happens here but I begin talking about John the baptist and some of the things he pointed out while he was baptizing people before Jesus started his ministry.
My heart is for those to see that they need to have faith on their own. You cannot live the life God has called you, by living through other peoples faith. It is a relationship with YOU and the almighty.
I pray that my children see the truth, that they seek the truth, that they desire the truth.
I pray that they are leaders among their peers. That they seek God first all of their days and fulfill their purpose here on earth.
I hope you are encouraged today.
I hope that you get into God's word today and make Him a priority in your life.

I have been recording my daily devotional time for over 6 months and have gained sooooo much from it! Along the way there have been over 32,000 downloads of the podcast, that number totally blows my mind.

Saul did not destroy everything that was asked of him by God.
Even though you could argue that he destroyed most of it, he purposefully left some things/people intact.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, especially if it can cause others to lose faith.
We are called to "keep the fervor!" Apathy towards our relationship with God only happens when we stop pursuing Him.

The Apostle Paul tells how it is such an encouragement to be around the Roman church, how they build his faith when he is around them.
Romans 1:12 " ...that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith."
I love being a dad and watching my kids grow up! There is so much I have learned as a father of 4 young ones. I feel like I must apologize if I only point out the negative things about children. It is through them I notice my own sin and short-comings.

Do you find yourself being envious of others success, lifestyle, relationships, etc or are you genuinely excited and happy for them?
I recall acting out a scene, over and over and over again for a "drive-thru" Christmas Story experience our church put on for the community. The scene I acted in repeatedly was in our reading today. The crowd demanded the death of Jesus. They wanted it so badly that when given the opportunity to put to death Jesus or a convicted murderer they chose to set the murderer free.
Luke 23:22-25 “For the third time, he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.” But with loud shouts, they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. So Pilate decided to grant their demand. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.”
I think that Jesus made them extremely uncomfortable and wanted to get rid of Him once and for all.
Life is fragile and short and it can change in an instant. We had a scar over our vacation where we had to take our 2-year-old to the hospital. There always seems to be things that are on your mind or causing you anxiety, but when something like that happens everything else really doesn't seem to matter. It snaps you out of your mindset and fixation on the things that really don't matter.
Luke 21:33 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
If we focus our lives on things other than Jesus... in time... we will realize how short-sighted we were and how we truly focused and caught up in the wrong things.
Maybe it's time for a mindset change.

Do we take sin seriously? We read about sin and how it is in the world. Jesus warns us that those who are the ones who influence others to sin will also get punishment.
Luke 17:1-2 “Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.”
May we be aware of how we may be influencing others and more cognizant of the sins in our own lives and repent from them.

Losing something important to you is a terrible thing.
Jesus talks about sinners in this way, as people who are lost and Jesus got ridiculed for spending time with sinner but everyone is important to Jesus. Every. Single. Person!
Luke 15:1-2 “Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus.2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Traveling is expensive! You really have to plan before you go on a bigger trip, especially if you are traveling with young children, they need lots of stuff... like car seats! I can only imagine how awful it would be to not plan it all out ahead of time to run out of money along the way and try and go without something essential. It would be miserable.
Jesus reminds us that following Him also costs us something and that it would be foolish to think you can be a disciple of Jesus and your life not be changed.
Luke 14:28-33 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the...
My kids are not afraid to ask me or my wife for things ALL DAY LONG. They are bold, and even when they really should know what we are going to say, usually "no," they ask anyway.
Luke 11:5-8 "Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.”

Just came back from our first family vacation where we had to fly. We sure had a ton of luggage! Each of our four kids had a backpack for the ride, had a few suitcases and 4 car seats! it was a little crazy to be carrying all that plus four young children throughout an airport. I am sure we looked a little crazy. We moved at a snail's pace with all our goodies. After today's reading, I started thinking, how many of us are traveling through life with that much baggage... or even much more.
Luke 9:3-6 " He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere”

Sometimes I think we focus too much on the amount of "wrong" or "sin" that we have done in our lives. Jesus clears that up in this passage...
Luke 7:41-42 " Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
We all have sins that need to be forgiven, the number is irrelevant.

What do you want? I think that is a fair question to ask. It is easy to get caught up in the grind of life, whether it be work or school, your life can start to look the same from day to day and in the monotony, you can forget what you have been made for. In our reading today we see Jesus calling the disciples from their daily lives to live out their purpose.
Luke 5:10b "Then Jesus said to Simon, 'Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.'"
Remember that you too have a higher calling than to just struggle from day to day with your busy routine but to also fulfill what God has called you to on this short time on Earth.

I think, when it comes to listening, we are all naturally not very good at it. I think there is something that is part of our sinful nature that has us hearing things the way we want to hear them sometimes. I see it in my own conversations with family and I think that I do the same thing. There is a section in today's verses that reminds me of this and how it can be dangerous in our faith walk in regards to what God is speaking to us.
Luke 4:28-29 "All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff."
You can know all about Jesus and reject what He is trying to tell you.
I encourage you to take a moment and google "the crab mentality." It is a good example of why we should be cognizant of those whom we spend time around most.
Luke 1:80 "And the child grew and became strong in spirit, and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel."
Who is around you, do they uplift you or are they dragging you down?

We read about the Queen wanting to meet Solomon due to his reputation.
2 Chronicles 9:5-6 "She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. But I did not believe what they said until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half the greatness of your wisdom was told me; you have far exceeded the report I heard."
One of my favorite things about our relationship with God is that He can make all things new and can use all circumstances to further the kingdom. If you give your reputation to God, whether good or bad, He will use it!

Philippians 4:12-13 " I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. "
Instead of being content with the things that we have, have we made the mistake of being content with our relationship with God? When we actively pursue God, we become more content with the things of this world.

I am starting to believe that the closer to God I am in my relationship with Him, the more selfless I become. We read in scripture today in the first 2 chapters in Philippians. Here I am reminded of the impact we have on those around us, so do not complain :)
Philippians 2:14-15 "Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky "

Samson decided to marry a Philistine, the very people God had set Samson apart to rescue His people from. When God rescues you from something, do not go back to it, do not covet it, and do not make it a big part of your life again (remove it completely).

What does it take to make a difference... We read about Samson today and tomorrow. There were a few verses that impacted me, specifically the one describing Samson when he was born and some of the things he was not to do to stay set-apart. It is through Jesus that we are able to be set-apart now, not only are we able to now but that is the life we were called to live... a holy life.
Judges 13:5 "...whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb..."
God used a single person to make a difference in a nation. The requirement to be used was to be set-apart. May we all have the insight and discipline to live a life that can be used by God.

What is holding you back? I am reminded in this passage that all we really need to succeed in this life, to accomplish what God has called us to, is a close relationship with God.
The Israelites succeed, even with 99% of the resources not in use, because God was with them!
Judges 7:2 "The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men...."
God wanted to show the Israelites that all they really needed was Him. So He asked them to release some men to make it obvious the win in battle was solely due to Gods favor. May we be reminded that we have everything we need to accomplish God's will for our lives... God. So let's leave the fears and excuses behind us and allow God to work through us.

There is a big difference when you make up a temporary fix vs. fixing something the way it was meant to be. When you are dealing with things that are less significant, I give the example of a car today, than it may be fine. The problem is we can have the tendency to do that with our life. When things get hard we default to trying to make things easier or to do whatever feels good at the time. This sort of lifestyle is really one that is promoted in our culture but ultimately leaves people empty. They are temporarily fixing their life by putting something else in the place of God.
The Israelites do this and when things start falling apart, they call upon the Lord who ultimately has Gideon tear down their Idols and make God the center of their lives again.
Judges 6:25-26 "...Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. Then build a proper kind of altar to the Lord your God..."
May we all keep God as our #1 priority in our lives!
It sure can be easy to focus on the things that don't really matter. Mike Tison goes over some of his thoughts on Colossians chapters 3&4. We are reminded here of how easy it is to focus on earthly things when all those things are usually distractions to the things that really matter in life.
Colossians 3:1&2 "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."
May we all keep God as our #1 priority in our lives!

You ever feel like you are not good enough? Well, sin in our life will make us that way, however, it is the power of Jesus's sacrifice that can change everything. When you give your life to Jesus, it is then you become qualified.
Colossians 1:12 "...giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light."
In my experience, if you have a heart that is willing and you are pursuing God throughout your life, you are able to be used by Him, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I tell the story of how we acquired our RV, the one we have never camped in yet. We have been restoring it as it was not being used for its original purpose, it had been beat up a little, has some scars, but we are restoring it to its intended use and are excited about all the future possibilities!
Psalms 80:3 "Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved."
Many of us are in a place and are living our lives that we are not meant to be living. God has created us for a purpose and it is through our sin that has gotten us off track. I am so thankful for our God, the One who is in the restoration business!

The only thing worse than failing is succeeding at the wrong things. It is easy for us to get off track and start living life with the wrong perspective or even envying those who are succeeding at the wrong things in life. The author in Psalms here expresses his struggle with this issue.
Psalms 73:1-3 "Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked."

Trying to explain to my children (ages range between 2 and 7 yrs) how big the United States actually remains quite difficult. We have family that lives a little less than 3 hours from our home and they think that is a long ways away. We are flying out of Michigan to attend a wedding soon and explaining that distance and how & why they have a time difference is near impossible. I explain and am about 90% sure they have no clue what I am telling them. This World is bigger than they can comprehend.
John 21:25 "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written."
No matter how we perceive God, He is bigger! He has done more! He love us MORE!

You ever wish you were famous? Maybe when you were younger, now you might prefer to be low key and under the radar. We read about Peter and the struggle he had when he denied Jesus. I'm sure this was a rough time for him, feeling like he let Jesus down. The thing that I like about it, was the fact he was recognized as a disciple of Jesus. Even though he didn't want it at the time.
John 18:25-27 "Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not.” One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow."
May we not live a life hiding the fact that we are disciples of Jesus...

What are the things that really matter in life? It seems strange the things that we put so much emphasis on, doesn't it? I remember stressing about getting good grades in school, then what classes I took in High School, then what college, and I am not confident that any of that really mattered near as much as I thought. I wish now I was equally concerned about my relationship with Jesus.
John 15:9-11 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. ”
I think we stress these things because we want to live a life with Joy, when in reality our joy, the complete JOY, comes from Jesus and walking in obedience!

John 13:15-16 "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.”
Jesus set the example of a humble servant leader, an extremely difficult position to follow through with, but it is our high calling as His disciples.

It is difficult to love someone when you are looking down on them. Judging can be easy to do. There is something about it that elevates ourselves when we judge others, we sort of look down on them which makes us feel good/better about ourselves. Jesus reminds us that He did not come to judge but to love. The sinner without a relationship with Jesus will one day stand before the Father and be Judged then, us judging them now does not help them with that, but loving them can!
John 12:47-48 "If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. ”
May we be quick to empathize and Love those around us, there is power in Love!

Regularly we here our children, almost fight to the death, over a toy. Without exception one or more of them will be screaming "MINE!" This is a little silly for them to get this extreme over the simple toys we have in our house, especially because we have like a million toys for them to choose from.
When reading this passage, however, I feel like Jesus says the same thing about us, with much more power and passion.
John 10:28-30 " I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[c]; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
May you be encouraged today, if you have given your life to Jesus, become one of His sheep, you are HIS! No one can snatch you away from Him!

I give examples, like usual (this is the stage of life I am in so give me a break), of my children. I feel like I save their lives on a weekly basis (lol). They are just not aware of their surroundings, they do not know better, so keeping them from walking on their own in a busy parking lot or away from the pool when there are no adults present to save their life if they slip in, is necessary at their current ages.
They can be in serious danger and not realize it.
John 8:33-34 "They answered him, 'We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?' Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”
These Jews were unaware that they were slaves to sin in their lives, this is a dangerous place for anyone to be in, just believing that you are "all set" or everything is "fine" when in reality you are in extreme danger.

You could never eat enough in one day to satisfy you for life. You always get hungry again, usually by the next day.
Likewise, we seek things to fulfill our life that, when attained, makes us hungry again. It is important to realize that Jesus is the bread of life, and when consumed, you will never hunger again.
John 6:35 "Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. ”
Stop, take a moment and think about what you are pursuing in life, is it something that will make you hungry again? Or are you pursuing the bread of life, the author of life, Jesus Christ?

I love board games! Mainly when I am winning at them :) In life we are all losing, some of us take longer (or never) figure that out. Sin has separated us from our creator and we cannot live out our purpose apart from Him. Jesus came to give us a fresh start, one that we would not have been able to accomplish on our own.
John 3:3 "Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
I hope you are reminded that you have the opportunity for a fresh start, it came at a high price, but you are worth it, so stop dwelling on the past already!

Is it more natural for you to assume the worst in people or assume the best? The answer to that is typically dependent upon your past and the impact of your past and current relationships. We see in this passage how assuming the worst can backfire.
1 Chronicles 19:1-3 "In the course of time, Nahash king of the Ammonites died, and his son succeeded him as king. David thought, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father. When David’s envoys came to Hanun in the land of the Ammonites to express sympathy to him, the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun, “Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Haven’t his envoys come to you only to explore and spy out the country and overthrow it?”
May you be encouraged to live a life that assumes the best in people, even though there will be times you are let down.
Wow, we have been so blessed. Helping our kids understand that I can literally take away anything they have at any time is tough for them. They take ownership of their toys very quickly. Essentially, I want them to be humble and recognize that all that they have has been provided to them.
1 Chronicles 17:16 "Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?"
David lived in thanks and humility, he knew that the Lord had blessed him and he lived his life like he knew it.

I love it when I hear my 7 yr old sing, well any of my children for that matter, she just does it more often. She doesn't need a song to sing because she can freestyle whenever, on cue. To be honest I don't think she is going to win any awards but it brings me joy to hear her.
1 Chronicles 15:22 "Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was his responsibility because he was skillful at it."
David had assigned someone to be "in charge" of singing. It was an important part of what they did to honor the Father. May we not underestimate the joy we can bring to God in heaven with our praise!

Do you have any moments you can think of where you lost your cool? I share a story of getting out of my car in anger after 4-hour traffic jam. My wrath is not anything near that of God's, He is so powerful and nothing can compare. The very fact that Jesus has not returned as scripture tells us is due to His patience for those who are not yet believers

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

So many people look forward to retirement, and rightly so. Being able to accomplish so much in the workplace and then be able to enjoy your life without the need for work. The temptation then is to also step aside from ministry and church when this should be the time you step in and encourage! You have so much life experience and wisdom to help the next generation lead.
1 Peter 5:1-3 "To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock."

"How we treat others should be a reflection of who we are, not what they deserve" It is easy to treat people the way they treat you. Those who treat you good, we want to treat well also. Our actions matter! What we do and how we treat people each day matters! We have been called to live a life that is Holy and set apart but trying to live that life disconnected from God is a pointless pursuit. It is through our spiritual growth we are able to live this holy life.
1 Peter 2:1-3 "Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good."
How are you doing spiritually? Is your spirit starving? Are you feeding your spirit daily and craving the Lord?

Jonah get's a 2nd chance from God, which is fantastic, he even follows through this time with success! However, he is not happy until he gets shade from a vine.
When the narrative was about "Jonah" then Jonah was happy, when it was about God or others repenting and being forgiven, Jonah was not happy at all.
Jonah 4:1-3 "But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry. He prayed to the Lord, 'Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.'"
Do we live a life like Jonah? Only happy when good things are happening to us, or are we living our life for others?

Jonah get's a word from God to go to a city to preach, he immediately goes in another direction. We learn later when traveling and asked about himself, he perceived himself as someone who worshiped God.

Anxiety can wreck your joy. 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us that we are to give our burdens to the Lord... easier said than done, right?
I think our perspective can help, to understand what matters, what has meaning as said in Ecclesiastes. When we have a firm grasp on the things that actually matter (relationship with God and relationship with others) why be concerned with the things that don't?
Ecclesiastes 11:10 "So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body..."
Ecclesiastes 12:13 "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind."

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20(NIV) "This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot. Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart."
If you have a place to live, plenty of food to eat, and clothes to wear, you are richer than most in this world. To have a car, home, toys, etc. is exceedingly abundant life, but do we enjoy it? It is wise to accept our lot and pursue God as He will occupy us with "gladness of heart!"
I think it is important to know, that it's O.K not to be O.K. So many of us are out there putting on a front and trying to act like we have it all together. There is a time for everything, including a time for not being O.K. Be aware and present where you are in your life and realize it is O.K to be there.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8(NIV) "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak...

What do dogs, cats, and some people have in common? They are going in circles accomplishing nothing of value.
Ecclesiastes 2:24-26(NIV) "A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness, but to the sinner, he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind."
As a reminder... This is the only life you get, make it count.

Your presence can make an impact. I give the example in today's episode of the hospital visits that I would do from time to time in ministry. There was not much to do or even say. I would just be present.
The Apostle Paul had many struggles but would always seem to persevere to appear unstoppable! There is a verse in this last Chapter of Acts that points out other believers traveling long ways (30-40 miles) just to be there and what an encouragement it was the Paul!
Acts 28:15 (NIV) "The brothers and sisters there had heard that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us. At the sight of these people, Paul thanked God and was encouraged. "
May we make that an example in our own lives, let's take a few minutes to send out an encouraging word to someone you know.

Ready or not, a storm is coming. How prepared are you? Fact is, if we want to handle the storm the way the Apostle Paul handled it requires an extreme peace and faith that only comes from God.
Acts 27:33-36 (NIV) "Just before dawn, Paul urged them all to eat. “For the last fourteen days,” he said, “you have been in constant suspense and have gone without food—you haven’t eaten anything. Now I urge you to take some food. You need it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head.” After he said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat. They were all encouraged and ate some food themselves."

Although I describe a parenting fail in this episode, it relates to how I see the Apostle Paul here at the end of Acts Chapter 26 when he is on trial.
He does not take the stand for his defense to speak about his innocence but uses the time to share his testimony and witness to those in the courtroom and the judge himself.
Acts 26:28-29 (NIV) "Then Agrippa said to Paul, 'Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?' Paul replied, 'Short time or long—I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains.'"
I learn from the Apostle Paul the true meaning to love my neighbor!

I describe some of the struggles I had as a young pastor in ministry. Looking back I really didn't have the maturity to handle the dose of apathy I was witnessing regarding the mission at hand. I started to think, how many actually believe what we all say we believe? On the other hand, I was extremely blessed to have had my ministry experience, I have had many people pour into me and make me a better disciple for it!
How do we appear to others? The Apostle Paul had been accused of insanity.
Acts 26:24-25 "At this point, Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.” “I am not insane, most excellent Festus,” Paul replied. “What I am saying is true and reasonable"
Ultimately, living the life we are called to live will make us look insane, at least to some degree. The apostle Paul was accused of insanity when preaching the truth.
Give Jesus your heart, give Him your life, not just what is convenient.
My mower broke recently, well it started shaking really bad and I wasn't sure what could be the issue. It is a riding mower, so I took off the mowing deck and power washed everything to see if it was the dirt causing imbalance. It was not. I later had someone tell me that it was an internal problem with the engine and it was a good thing that I did not continue running the motor.
Deeds should not be the focus. The focus should be on Christ and repenting so we turn towards Him. When our deeds are off, it is an internal problem, not an external one, so focusing on any external fixes would only be short-term in nature.
Acts 26:20 "... I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds."

Getting punished for no reason has got to be one of the worst things. Having four children and reluctantly admitting that I am no perfect parent, there have been times when I have punished the wrong child in ignorance. Having done nothing wrong and bearing punishment is a tough thing.
The Apostle Paul essentially did nothing wrong, at least nothing deserving of imprisonment. Yet there he was, and through his trial, God was there. The Apostle Paul destroys any thoughts that when we are close to God our life will be easy, also when we are going through a tough time, especially one where there has been nothing done to deserve the trial, that God is still there in our midst.
Acts 24:16,27 16 - "So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man." 27 - "When two years had passed..."

I have made some unconvential moves in my life. I think that I freak out my wife every once in a while, quitting a perfectly good job to pursue something that has no guarantee can put you ladies on edge :)
I think it is more my view on life that causes me to do those moves, the thought of regret later in life is a bigger factor for me than the fear of failing. I would rather try and fail than never try at all. When you come to that mindset you begin to see things differently and taking action becomes easier.
Acts 23:1 "Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, 'My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.'"
I believe the Apostle Paul knew it was only a matter of time before he was killed. He shared his faith anyway, I believe, so when he came to the end of his life, he would have no regrets.

Friday (113) Lord, Your Will Be Done
I have had the honor and opportunity to serve alongside Brad Brimmer in youth ministry as a volunteer for the last six years. When reading through Acts Chapter 21 I was reminded of the similarities that Brad, the Apostle Paul, and essentially all believers face while pursuing the Lord's will for our lives.
Acts 21:14 "When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, 'The Lord’s will be done.'"
I think we can learn from the early disciples here when they tried to persuade the Apostle Paul to stay. They essentially were fighting what the Lord's will was for the Apostle Paul. There are times in our life where we struggle to actually do what God has called us to do, we can find excuses, there are even those around us sometimes (out of love) point out the reasons why we shouldn't go out in faith. May we all be "in-tune" with the Lord as the Apostle Paul and allow our faith and willingness to serve God outweigh all the doubts
Tough Mudder is one of the hardest races I have ever done, just finishing is an accomplishment! Living out our faith is so much harder, but it is worth it.
Acts 20:23-24 " I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace."
The biggest thing I learn from the Apostle Paul is how he looks at life. He recognizes that it is a race, a marathon at that (not a sprint), that it is tough and involves trials and pain but still worth to follow God and commit to Him everything that you do!

I think that our culture is missing honor. Honoring those who are older than us, honoring our parents, honoring our military (active and veterans), etc. Honor is something that was more a part of the 1st-century church culture than it is today.
Acts 19:17 "When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor."
I think we can learn a thing or two from the first-century church. What Honor is and looks like is one of those things, may we all live a life that is honoring to our Lord and savior!

Why does it take a life disaster to get our attention sometimes? God wants a relationship with us and has paid the price to make it a possibility! Does our routine get in the way? Do we need something to interrupt it to snap us out of the daze of life we live in?

The people in your life will/can make your life more rewarding or more difficult. They can be the most difficult part of your day or could make your day! The fact of the matter is, relationships are messy. We are all different, these differences when worked through can make life better but also can make it difficult.
I am encouraged through Acts 15 as Barnabas and the Apostle Paul have an argument, even more so that the Apostle Paul still speaks highly of Barnabas in letters written later. Even through their disagreements, they still have integrity when speaking about one another to others, what an example to live by!
I am reminded in the Chapter that all we need is faith, nothing else, nothing.

Have you ever had a moment when you realized that you are not good enough? I have, then I remember that Christ sacrificed to fix all my flaws, all the times I missed the mark (sinned), to make me good enough. It is dangerous when we mix up the order of how things work though. It is through faith we are saved. In our salvation we are being sanctified and renewed, this causes life change including our actions. James describes it as "good works," and says it is proof of faith.
However, it can be dangerous to do "good works" thinking that it brings salvation. I personally believe that a massive amount of people fall into this category.
I am reminded in the Chapter that all we need is faith, nothing else, nothing.

Have you ever seen those coexist bumper stickers? Those really get on my nerves, not because I don't think it is important to "get along" or "be nice" to each other, but because I think it has an underlying message, that you do not have to decide. When the Apostles go to jail for sharing their faith, when they miraculously get out of jail, they immediately go back to the place where they were arrested to complete what they started!

Is our life about us or is it about God? When your focus becomes God, I find it difficult to believe that you could be jealous of anything.
Acts 5:17 "Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.”
Can you think of any reason for any of us to be jealous of one another? If our life is to Glorify God, there is no reason for us to envy those who are not glorifying God with their life. Then when there are those who are, we should celebrate because God is being glorified.

I kind of feel bad reading about Ananias and Sapphira, I can, unfortunately, relate to them on some level. It's easy to throw them under the bus.
Acts 5:1-5 "Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died..."

I just got that "I'm in big trouble" feeling while reading Chapter 4 of Acts! Peter and John were super close to being in jail for a significant time.
Acts 4:18 "Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus."
I think we all have something to learn from these 2 men. The fire and passion for Jesus and telling others about what they experienced!

I think it is our natural tendency to assume our own innocence in most matters. There are times when you realize that you were at fault, this passage reveals to me one of those times.
Acts 3:15 "You killed the author of life..."
Peter tells the Jews around him that they made a big mistake! Jesus was whom He said He was, and His resurrection proved it. It can be easy to get mad at them, but in reality, sin is what killed Jesus...my sin.

Listen, you need to be careful what you put on the internet. Anything can go far and fast. After it is posted to the world there is no taking it back, it will be there forever!
Peter used his opportunity, everybody was around during the Pentecost, to share the message.
Acts 2:14 "Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say..."
Peter used his platform, are we using ours? We all can record our testimony or share our faith in our own unique way by simply recording ourselves without any interruptions. Spread the good news in a new and highly impactful platform.

Can you think of anything that brings more anticipation than a baby? You never know when the baby is coming! Sure they give you a due date but that is rarely the day when the baby comes.
Jesus tells His disciples that he will return. They then proceed to live a life where they live in anticipation.
Acts 1:10-11 "They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
Whether they were standing in awe of what just took place or if they were standing there waiting for His return, they lived their life in anticipation afterward. Every day they sought out what God would have them do.
Peter cannot wait when he recognizes Jesus! He drops what he is doing and pursues Jesus. How busy are we in our life? Are we willing to drop everything to pursue Him when we recognize Him?
John 21:7 "Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. "
May we embody this excitement living a life that is not too busy to immediately stop and pursue God.

After reading about Mary in chapter 20 of John, it hit me that I may have had several Mary moments in my life where God was right there in front of me and I didn't recognize Him.
John 20:14 "At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus."
May we stop and be more aware of what God may be doing in our lives, through the good and through the bad.

With children that love to fight one another, I talk about our attempt to "brainwash" them into loving one another. We speak unity into them! We tell them they are going to be best friends when they grow up, that is our heart's desire. This is a tough world to live in with lots of troubles, trials, and tribulations. It's just tough and people can be deceiving and mean. May we as a family is unified, we should be lifting each other up!
John 17:22-23 "I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity..."
May we as a church be there for each other! What a powerful force we would be if we were just there for one another. If we were to work together for the sake of the lost. This world would be changed.

How do you handle trials? I talk a little about a financial trial I have experienced and relate it to something Jesus was warning His disciples about, the trials that they were about to face. I have it much easier in comparison.
John 16:33 "'I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.'"
When going through a rough time, Jesus reminds tHis Disciples that they (including us) are not alone. We can have peace, even through trials, through Christ. May you rely on Him, for He has overcome the world!

Comfort is something we seek consistently throughout out life. Does God want us to have a cushy comfortable life? A life chasing God... what does it look like? Is it an easier life? Is it more comfortable?

They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them..."

Jesus reminds his disciples that the world hates Him and not to be alarmed when the world hates them as well.

John 15:12-14 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command."
Love is selflessness when we say we love someone, what are we really saying? Are we saying I enjoy your company or I like the way you make me feel? When you love someone, you will put there needs before your own. Love is a choice. We are called to Love God and Love Others.

One of the things Jesus says in Chapter 10... “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep." (John 10:14-15)
As believers, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus has our back (way better than Spiderman). As the shepherd, He leads and guides but also PROTECTS! May we take comfort in knowing our shepherd.

Wow! what an example the Samaritan women is for us. She encountered Jesus, was changed, then told everyone. Fear did not stop her from changing her community.
John 4:39-42 "Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers. They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”"

Eating is obviously crucial in our survival. You do not need to eat what is good for you though, you can eat junk and survive. To thrive in life, we out to eat the right things.
Jesus speaks about what fuels Him and it is not food, doing the will of His Father is what ultimately fuels Him, which begs the question...

John 4:31-34 "Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.”
But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”
Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?”
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work."
Let us not forget the never ending supply that we have in God for what we need to thrive in life. May we not walk around parched... but filled.

It was through that trip that I realized the necessity of water! Our body was made to drink water on a regular basis. We take for granted the water supply and availability to us in our 1st world country.
I talk about how Jesus tells this women at the well that He could supply her with water that would never end. We know that Jesus is referring to eternal life that He gave us. Like water is a necessity of life, so is our relationship God.
John 4:13-15 "Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”"
"Where does it point?" John the baptist had his ministry taken away! Jesus came and people stopped following John and started following Jesus. Instead of being discouraged, John was glad because it was always his goal that his life would point to Jesus! I think we can all learn a little from John, may our goal in life be ideal that our life elevates Jesus and not ourselves.
John 3:27-30 "To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”

"Night Lights" Why is it so scary when you are in pitch darkness? Partly because of what could be hiding in the darkness. Jesus speaks about Light revealing what is in the darkness.
John 3:19-21 "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God."

"Stay Curious" My younger children are naturally curious, sometimes annoyingly so. However, I think we can learn from children, In chapter 3 of John we hear from Nicodemus. He was a religious leader at the time and he is having a conversation with Jesus.

Those are not the words I want to hear from God, that's for sure! These were the words used when Jesus turned over the money changers tables and ran out their cattle and livestock. I discuss the issue of motive again in this 4 minute episode.

The universe is so big! We can seem so insignificant in light of the physical size we are in comparison to what is out there. There are times when I wonder if God is even listening to my prayers. My little life here seems to really not matter when thinking about the overwhelming size of the universe.
John 1:47-51 (NIV) "When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.
Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”"
I believe, like Nathanael, God knows us and hears us!
Jesus had humble beginnings, from a barn to a growing up in a town where nearly nothing good had come from.
Our situation and circumstances does not disqualify you from God using you. If you have the heart and the courage to be willing to have him use you, He will.

My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins."

Parenting is tough, when my kids are not listening, it is natural to threaten them with some crazy consequences. However, if we are not going to go through with what we say, they have no meaning. Our words become empty with less power and weight.
James 5:12 "Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned."
When you say something, be sure to follow through with it. Let our yes be yes and our no be no.

Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you."
James is hard on them, not because they are rich, but because they are oppressing those around them.

Don't wish your life away
Have you heard the phrase, "the days are long and the years are short?"

James 4:13-17 "Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them."

What are you sowing with your words and your actions?
James 3:18 "Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness." Wisdom will have action with the knowledge.
James 3:13-16 "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice."
Let us live a life that is considered wise, let us live a life that is actually doing what we say we should be doing.
Do you find yourself speaking words or thinking things that are naturally hurtful, critical, and negative? There might be a heart issue that should be addressed.
When our heart is in the right place, we will have fruit that shows it, including our words.

Looks can be deceiving! How often do we quickly judge someone else? I talk about my experience in the financial industry and realizing how often looks can be deceiving. We are not called to judged others, let's face the facts, we are not good at judging anyways...

When you are in the midst of trials, what is your reaction? When you are put under pressure, you can really learn more about yourself. It is easy to play it cool when everything is going as planned, easy to act like everything is okay and that you have a good relationship with God.
God's peace surpasses all understanding, if you are close to the Lord, when things start falling apart, you will be confident in Him. Even though we can grieve or be hurt, our life will not fall apart when our foundation is Jesus, nothing can move Him!
James 1:12 "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

Are we striving to have the easiest life as possible? Are we avoiding all risks? I'm not sure that God has called us to live a life of sitting around and doing everything to make my life more comfortable.
James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (NIV)
Does God say that our life will be an easier because we are following Him?

James 1:1
James is my absolute favorite books of the Bible! I recommend, when you are a new believer to read one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John), Next possibly read Acts (what happens after the Gospels) then James. This is fantastically practical.
What is it we strive to be? What is your title at work? What title would you like to have?
James 1:1 "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings."
This stands out to me, listen in to hear more of why this verse is so impactful to me...

This Chapter is full of the phrase "Greet..." and will follow it with a positive sentence about them.

Moms could take over the world
If only we were more supportive of one another, I remember a funny Facebook video of a lady telling us how powerful a group of moms would be if they were more encouraging to one another instead of judging one another.
Romans 15:5-7 "May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God."
May the church be more unified, let us not judge one another on the way we serve God, but come to an understanding that we all serve one Lord, Jesus Christ, and we are called to build one another up!
Enough Judging one another already!

I am convinced that just going through the motions does not give God honor or glory.
Our heart behind what we do can matter much more than the act we are doing.
Romans 14:4 "Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand."
In Episode 035, I discuss the importance of our heart in our actions. Going through the motions does not worship God, we are to have a heart for Him and be doing things with the purpose of giving Him the honor and glory for it, that worships Him.

Romans 13
It appears that maybe the Apostle Paul was dealing with Apathy.
vs.8-10 "Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."
Jesus interrupted their daily routine, then a few years later they get back in their daily routine, Jesus is still coming!
Do not live your life in slumber, get out of the zone, take off auto-pilot.
Let's make God a priority again!

Romans Chapter 12:3-8
We are one body with different gifts! One Team! You have a roll on this team.
How are we doing as a team? We have a big team and can accomplish immeasurable things. I believe you have a role on the team, a significant role, are you in the game?
You have value on the team and a purpose on this team!
You have what it takes to fulfill your role on this team!

Worship is deeper than praising and singing, it is a lifestyle.
Romans 12:1-2 "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Let the transforming of the renewing of our mind be a lifestyle. Let us choose everyday to give God our life, to love Him, to worship Him with our life. If you are doing that, you will be in God's will for your life!

Changed the podcast name to "Daily Christian" podcast to help people find me who have been searching, the "For What It's Worth" is more of a tagline for me now.
I am in Romans Chapter 9 - I am reminded of how the Apostle Paul knew scripture so well and how he was writing to the church in Rome and showing them what they were misinterpreting.
We should all strive to have a clearer understanding of scripture.
I think of all the church splits that have happened over the centuries revolving around how scripture is interpreted.
How much impact could we have if we focused more on the things we agreed upon?

What have I accomplished with my life? Am I more than a conqueror or am I barely surviving? If the purpose of your life is to give God glory, you win! He will help you fulfill a life with that purpose.
"If God is for us who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
“…in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37
Trying to lose weight sucks, there is a constant battle of the things I want to eat vs the things that I know I should be eating! If there was a weight gain competition I could win with no problems.
Romans Chapter 7 & 8, The apostle Paul mentions an inward battle of our sinful nature and the life God wants us to live. It is a war going on within!

For What it's worth, these are my thoughts...
Jeff Bezos is worth over $120B when I recorded this podcast! That is a number that is difficult to comprehend. To help understand - a Million Dollars, in $100 bills stacked on the ground, would reach about 3.5 feet high. That means a Billion Dollars would be about 3500 feet! That is twice as high as the tallest building in the United States, remember that is only $1B when Bezos has over $120B. Crazy!
Bezos riches are but a grain of sand in the Sahara Desert compared to the riches that God has!
Ephesians Chapter 2, here are my thoughts.
There are tough expectations for those who serve in a leadership role. I believe that when we have that influence that leaders have, that God Judges that appropriately.
1 Timothy Chapter 3 goes over the qualifications that are required for someone to have a leadership role in the church body. However, we should qualify for leadership whether we plan on being a leader in ministry or not.
The things listed here shows a life that has truly been changed by God, and that is a life that we should be living regardless of official role at the church we attend and/or serve.
Our God is so awesome, He has a desire that all be saved!
1 Timothy 2:3-4 "This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."
As we grow close to Him we will also have that same desire.
Let's not underestimate the power of being around other believers who are actually walking in their faith! I am in 1 Timothy Chapter 1 today, 2 big things stand out!

Okay, dogs are obviously better than cats, lol! I talk about death as we have recently experienced it. We have, unfortunately, just needed to lay our family dog down due to health issues. So mortality is fresh on our minds.
Scripture speaks about laying our life down, being dead to our old selves (with its sin) and turning toward God. This life living for God is only possible through Jesus!
For what it's worth, these are my thoughts on Romans Chapter 6.
Let's face the facts, God is the source of all peace and joy. When we are connected to the source, our circumstances will start to make no impact on our peace and joy in our life.
Get connected! Experience God's peace and joy in abundance!

What we have earned vs. what we have been given is a powerful reminder of God's graciousness and love towards us. Let us not forget what we have earned or may we undermind the gift that has been given.

What do you do when you believed the wrong thing your whole life then realize it?
Romans 3:20 "Therefore no one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin."
Truth bomb from the apostle Paul, reading the bible and trying to earn your righteousness by doing a bunch of good things will not work out for you. Get with the program, Jesus came to die for your sins, that is the only way for atonement to happen for you.

It's not about how much you know, it's more about what you DO with what you know. God cares more about our actions than our knowledge. Knowledge does not show faith, action does.
Romans 2:13 "For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous."
Our salvation comes through faith alone. Action is a byproduct of faith, if you claim to have faith but your life is no different (no action), it would be fair to question your faith, would it not?
Why do I care at all what other's think of me? Do people judge me? I get that feeling all the time, I already know (before I even tell some people in my life) when I do something that others would think is a bad decision.
Everybody has an opinion, I cannot control that. I can control, however, how I look and think of others
Romans 2:1 "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself..."
Let's use scripture as it was intended, a mirror for ourselves to find flaws, not as a magnifine glass to see other's flaws.
Still in Romans 1 today. Do not be ashamed of the Gospel. I feel like I want to live a life free of any shame, especially of the Gospel. I remind myself that it is not my job to convince anyone, I just need to be able to articulate my faith clearly. Scripture seems clear that most people will not believe in Jesus.
Started reading in Romans after Easter, Chapter 1 is packed full of goodies. Obedience comes through faith! That hit me today, faith is trust, specifically in something you cannot see. As I get older I feel like life goes by faster, I think a big part of that is due to routine. We get our life in a rut, do the same things everyday over and over. I think that can be a faith killer. You start to have less to trust when you do things you have already done before, speak to the people you have relationships already, talk about the things that you usually talk about, etc.
Let's be open to what God has for us today, be aware of your routine and be open to change it. Let God work through you, ask Him to let you see what He sees today and see if you notice anything different that can change your routine.
The impact that Judas could have had if he would have been the example of redemption that he could have been. The apostle Paul showed us God's redemptive power...
You want the good news first or the bad news? I am a bad news first kind of guy. I think we do an injustice to the good news if you do not fully understand the bad. Reflecting on the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf today, hope you take some time to do the same.
Sharing my thoughts to the world wide web has brought feedback. I really do not have much to offer other than, to tell the truth. I am not here to argue, to convince you of anything, but rather to share with you the Word of God and its impact on my life.
I think most will assume they are a "good person" and that "good people" go to heaven. It seems reasonable at first thought. Something to consider: Is my definition of good and God's definition the same? If they are not, that could be a big problem.
For what it's worth, here are my thoughts on the subject.
1 Thessalonians 4-5: Jesus is coming back, nobody knows when, but that is a promise from His Word. I think the question we should be asking ourselves: Am I ready? Am I ready if He returns today? Am I ready to go before Him if something were to happen to me today and my life ended?
1 Thessalonians 4 lays out the way our life should look. We are called to live a Holy life. The thing is, that is arguably impossible without God in your life. We naturally are sinful, it goes against our nature to look out for others above ourselves. The only way to accomplish the life God has for us is through a relationship with Him. Like any other relationship, if you want it to work, you spend time with the person. Long distance relationships rarely work! He is available all the time, speak to him (prayer) listen to his word (scripture) and let your relationship with Him grow.
To live a Holy life is difficult, but as we draw close to God, our actions will reflect a Holy life.
It is when your life, as a Christian, looks the same as those who have no relationship with Christ, where there is likely a relationship issue with God. I am confident that it is IMPOSSIBLE to be close to God and live an unholy life.
Does your life reflect a close relationship with God?
1 Thessalonians 3 - They knew they would suffer if they decided to give their lives over to Jesus, they did anyway! Not because it was easy, because Jesus was the truth, He was who He claimed to be. When realizing that, they lived the life He called all of us to live due to the faith they had in Him. That came with persecution, they knew it would come, but they lived their life according to their calling regardless of the outcome.
1 Thessalonians 2, so much here that I love. Motive for sharing your faith is meant to be solely out of love, that you would be filled with Joy when those you encounter give their life to God!
Unfortunately, if we do not love those around us, the Joy of life change does not outweigh the risk of sharing our faith. So when reflecting on my own life, I think the only reason why I would not share the Gospel with those around me would be because I do not love them. I, for the life of me, cannot think of another reason why I would not share it.
For what it's worth, those are some of my thoughts.
1 Thessalonians Chapter 1, the latter part.
God will draw you closer to Him through His Word, He will change you from the inside out! However, you have to be willing to change, otherwise what's the point? We were called to follow Christ, not ask him to follow us.
1 Thessalonians Chapter 1, A couple things I thought about after reading the first part of chapter 1; how pure are my motives? When I do things for people, am I doing it purely out of love or do I have other motives?
The 2nd and biggest thing of this part of the chapter is the power of Good News! The Gospel will change you in a big way and will have an impact on you from the inside out. When that happens, others will take notice!
