Sometimes, paintings tell a story. Other times, they are the story. PK Media dives into the journey that 4 paintings embarked on, dating back to a pre-WWII Roosevelt speech. Four Freedoms is a very Mississippi story about an artist struggling to take her place in high-society Jackson, a business pioneer who recognized the intersection of public art and commerce, and how a series of paintings made their way from a general store in rural Richton to the largest art museum in the state.
In the spirit of her great teacher Boardman Robinson, Mildred Wolfe gives a strong, new voice to President Roosevelt's "Four Freedoms" in the midst of a new Red Scare. The paintings are installed in the B. M. Stevens Store in Richton.
Mildred Wolfe becomes more conscious of the social injustices within Mississippi, and experiences a harsh professional setback. Her "Freedoms" make their way to the Mississippi Museum of Art.
With a new chapter of her life beginning in Jackson, Mildred Wolfe is faced with the peculiarities of Mississippi's polite society, and the challenge of creating her own identity as an artist along side her husband Karl, a successful portraitist. When one of Karl's clients visits the studio, Mildred is offered a unique commission.
