Is the story particularly ground-breaking or intellectually challenging? Not really, but it doesn’t have to be. It should be interesting to see what else Netflix does with these storied characters and franchise.

Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm has finally broken down and watched White Lotus on Crave after many repeated suggestions from readers and friends. He’s glad he did. Both seasons in record time, in fact.
The highly addictive, soapy satire is both a wonderful critique and a guilty pleasure in one incredible package. Mike White’s sharp writing and direction bring the vision into laser focus and Jennifer Coolidge provides a career-best.

Why? Mainly the heartwarming, friendly vibes that permeate throughout.

Oscar Isaac plays, well, multiple characters in a trippy, lucid story that puts the fate of humanity in the balance courtesy some unhappy Egyptian gods.
It’s a fascinating MCU romp that expertly holds back until the perfect moment.
Restraint is something few comic book franchises can pull off these days, but this Disney+ series manages it well.

The latest Harry Styles vehicle My Policeman recently released on Prime Video and Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm tries his hardest to be polite while saying ‘don’t quit your day job’ to the global superstar.
Styles plays Tom, a policeman in 1950s England who falls in love with a museum curator at a time when homosexuals were heavily persecuted.
Much of the story is told through flashback and there’s some good ingredients here, but Styles’ portrayal of the character feels out of place in an otherwise perfectly competent film.

Look. Some folks love The Crown, can’t get enough of it. And if that’s you? Great! But, for those who aren’t sure or are maybe curious, this might let them know what they’re in for.

A Christmas Carol has been adapted … a lot.
Luckily, Apple’s Spirited takes the story and gives it a clever twist, says Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm.
Focusing on the ghosts who haunt folks who need a refresh in Christmas spirit, rather than on Scrooge, the audience gets a new look at a classic.
Throw in some well-choreographed musical numbers and two dynamic actors and you have a winner.
Though the plot can plod and some components don’t quite click, there’s more to enjoy than distaste in this Christmas flick, which is a pretty rare occurrence for the genre.

Almost 30 years after the third Santa Clause film, the Santa Clauses focuses on a jaded and cranky Santa Claus, who’s ready to hang up his hat.
But what will that mean for Christmas? It turns out not to be worth it as the series abandons nostalgia bait for tone-deaf political grandstanding that distracts from an otherwise perfectly fine reboot.

Come From Away, the smash hit musical has been brought directly from the stage in Broadway into our living rooms and it’s a heartwarming treat.
With the original Broadway cast, recorded shortly after the COVID lockdown restrictions were lifted for health care and essential workers, the show tells of a group of passengers that were grounded in Gander following the 9/11 attached.
What follows is a lovely, syrupy sweet story that folks from the East Coast in particular should enjoy.

Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm got a lot of recommendations from folks to try Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He was apprehensive after the less-than-stellar Discovery and Picard.
But. He’s glad he finally did. Featuring an episodic format, campy comedy, engaging characters and just plain fun — Strange New Worlds feels like a return to form for the series. Focusing on Captain Pike’s tenure as captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, the crew has to use their wits to solve unique personal and galactic problems in each episode.
Strange New Worlds is available on Crave and Paramount+ (probably – Colin still needs to check into that).

Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm has been a fan of Gaiman’s books for some time, but Netflix’s The Sandman was still a fun surprise.
Morpheus or Dream, who rules over the dreaming world, is forced into ours and has to fix the cracks that result from that. The show sheds linear storytelling for something fresh and experimental and definitely worth watching, despite the gore and unsettling moments.

Imagine. Dragons. In this economy?
Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm sure can. HBO has brought the world of Westeros and Targaryens and terrible medieval life back in style with House of the Dragon, now on Crave.
HOTD is set 200-ish years before the events of Game of Thrones, focusing heavily on the Targaryen family at the height of their reign. With tons of palace intrigue, family squabbles and epic battles, there’s a lot here for fans to love.

Jennifer Hudson’s incredible voice to Aretha Franklin’s iconic songs might be the only saving grace for Respect, according to Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm.
Now available on Crave, the biopic of the legendary singer, unfortunately, fails in nearly every way thanks to a weak, cliched script and over-acting performances that make the 2.5-hour movie feel twice as long.

Buzz Lightyear has a movie out now on Disney+ and Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm can’t quite figure out why.
It’s perfectly fine, and kids will likely enjoy this new Pixar adventure — but it does take away from the childlike, imaginative connections the character had in the Toy Story series. Not everything needs to be explained and contextualized in its own universe.

Set 300 years ago in the Comanche Nation in the Great Plains, Prey focuses on Naru as she fights to prove herself to her tribe before confronting the Predator head-on. Beautifully shot, tastefully explored and expertly choreographed, Prey is an unexpected summer gem worth watching.

The latest Spider-Man, No Way Home, goes all in on the multiverse according to Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm. Which, certainly has its charms, but is it enough to make a good movie?

The first season of Russian Doll was fantastic, but, Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm is sad to report that the follow-up season has lost its magic.
Thanks to a convoluted, hard-to-follow story that jumps around incoherently and without much payoff, the second season fails to hook its audience, despite some excellent performances from Natasha Lyonne.

The basic conceit, that a contestant can still win, even if they don’t know the answer, is a fun gimmick for a bit. But, Bullsh*t The Game Show quickly loses its charm after the novelty wears off according to Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm.
Hosted by game show host and stand-up exemplar Howie Mandel, Bullsh*t tries hard to squeeze out a lot from its core idea and it’s fun to guess along as you watch, but there’s not much there beyond the mind games at play.

Red Notice … sigh Well, it’s not great, according to Streaming Wars host Colin Chisholm.
Despite the veneer of a high budget action-adventure movie, there’s not much to like with this Netflix original. Jokes that fall flat, a mishmash of jarring scene changes and perhaps its greatest sin, just being really boring, Red Notice misses the mark in many ways.

Spoiler alert: mild spoilers for the premiere episode of The Mandalorian, season two.
The Mandalorian is back! Disney Plus’ flagship series returns with a bang and Colin has lots to say about it. Focusing heavily on its western motif with a strong sense of style and mood, the initial episode delights, culminating in a super impressive showdown. Rest assured, it’s once again the show to watch.
Keeping with the star theme, Colin also checked out the first few episodes of Star Trek: Discovery’s latest season. It’s fine, so far, but is missing that hard-to-articulate Star Trekness that long-time fans have come to expect.
Multimedia exclusive: Obviously the 2020 election in the U.S. has been dominating our news, culture, brains for the past several months (years?) and with that has come some satirical and inspiring (or at least a solid effort) films and specials that address this - including an unexpectedly brilliant sequel to Borat, Tik Tok star Sarah Cooper’s first Netflix special and a bizarre West Wing reunion. Colin breaks these down and lets you know if they’re worth watching, even if the election is already over - maybe.

Since it’s now officially spooky season, Colin wanted to check out Netflix’s latest horror hit The Haunting of Bly Manor – turns out, it’s not as scary as he would have liked, even though he is a self-admitted horror wimp.
The show, which is a sort of follow-up to Haunting of Hill House doesn’t quite live up to expectations despite a strong start.
