I'm a songwriter/attempting screenwriter living in Fort Worth, Texas. I wanted to do a podcast but figure it out as I go. Hope you enjoy! - Jeff
Typically I get together with my friend Jack Brewster near the end of the year to rank our top 10 TV shows, but 2025 has been an overwhelmingly great year so far. To try to get ahead we decided to get together early and discuss the highlights from what we’ve seen. We intentionally DID NOT RANK these (whew). We did our 8 favorites and then went over some honorable mentions and went in order of whenever each show’s first episode aired. I’m including the times below so you can skip around to shows you’ve seen. We tried to be careful about spoilers but it might be safe to not listen to those segments if you’re hoping to get to the show eventually. Thanks for listening! After the recent election I kind of went into a little depression. I know not everyone felt the same about the outcome but I was personally feeling pretty down, like many. And I’m a songwriter, so I deal with my feelings by writing songs. I had an idea to make a quick solo album just to get the music out, because I thought some of them were decent. But I honestly just didn’t want to spend much time dwelling in that headspace (unbelievable, I know). I had the idea to instead just record them quick for a podcast. That way I could dump them out into the world and then move on with my life. Yeah. I wrestled with sharing this but decided it was worth it if the songs can comfort others in a low emotional place. I hope this can be a light to you guys. To everyone else, please go listen to another podcast. My friend Jack Brewster and I decided to do our annual Best TV episode early this year to beat the rush of the holidays. In some ways it felt like an off year in TV, but in others maybe I just didn’t have AppleTV+. I would like to offer an early apology for my whacked out list. Haha I decided to rank shows by what I thought about the most and not necessarily their quality. I’m not a professional critic. Thankfully Jack was there to keep the standards high. It was fun conversation and maybe we talked about some of your favorites as well.Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher & Google Play Music. Hey everyone! I dusted off the trusty old podcast to share a LONG conversation with my Mossy Stones bandmate Joshua Irwin about the making of our recent 2nd album Crafted Out of Paperclips. We put it together despite a good deal of obstacles, including Josh becoming a father for the third time a couple weeks after the album came out. One could say the album itself was... crafted out of paperclips (pause for applause). If you would like to listen to the songs we talk about here (in possibly boring detail) they are available NOW on your streaming service of choice. Just search for "Mossy Stones". You know how to do that!Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher & Google Play Music. Thanks for listening!
It's been busy where I am but I've been wanting to do a podcast about my new book, Wish It Were Sunday. In this episode I talk about the story and how it came to be for about twenty minutes, then read the first episode (28 pages) to give a little teaser.Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher & Google Play Music. Over Thanksgiving break my niece Kenzie came back on the podcast for the 3rd time (see also: episodes 23 & 83). This was an unplanned and unfocused conversation but we hit many important topics including high school, TikTok, ASMR, Magic 8 Balls, Gilmore Girls, and so much more. And keep your ears peeled for a surprise guest no one will see coming!Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, & Google Play Music. Thanks for listening!
Congratulations! Christmas has come early. Clear your schedule, dump your significant other, and listen to my friend Jack and I once again slowly and methodically go through our top 10 TV shows of the year. How many will end up on both of our lists? Is there any hope for Suits? Who would win in a fight between Succession and The Bear? And most importantly: how do these guys have this much time to talk about TV shows?Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, & Google Play Music. My friend Jack and I got together to record this year's Top 10 TV Shows episode (coming later this week) and thought it'd be fun to quickly run through some movies we also enjoyed before recording that one. Think of this as a bonus appetizer episode before the main course. Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher & Google Play Music. Thanks for listening!
I recently started a new songwriting project/band with my friend Joshua Irwin (Mossy Stones) and we just put out our first 10-song album, Luzita (NOW STREAMING EVERYWHERE). In this episode we dove DEEP into the writing and recording of the album during my recent week-long visit to where he lives in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The original plan was to record an EP of hymns Josh and his son Grady had been performing, but then we played around with writing a song, which turned into 2 songs, then 6, then 8, then 10. You know how it goes. If you've ever wanted to hear about how a song was written and then listen to the writers as they tediously continue talking about the same song for an additional 20 minutes beyond that, THIS IS FOR YOU. Thanks for listening (and clearing your schedule)!Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher & Google Play Music. Thanks for listening!
I just put out my newest book, The Leg End, and thought it might be fun to read the first section of the story to give people a taste of what to expect. I don't think I've ever done anything quite like this on the podcast before. The book is available on Amazon. You may have to search "the leg end jeff grant". It will correct you, thinking you meant "legend" and you'll have to click the thing that says "no, I meant leg end". I've posted links in other places on the internet but I don't think I can do that in this description, sadly. I got together again with my friend Jack Brewster this week to go through our top 10 TV shows of the year. You're excited about that, right? Thanks. This was a LONG episode with a few hiccups along the way but we made it! Please clap for us. Happy holidays, everyone! What were YOUR favorite shows this year? To celebrate the end of one of our favorite shows, my friend Jack & I reconvened to give our final thoughts on Better Call Saul. (for more listen to our episode from before the final season). Here are the segments if you'd like to skip around:

I wrote a book! It's called Follower Bot(thanks, I'm excited). I know people probably have questions and I conveniently have a podcast so I thought I'd try to answer some.
Right the only available digitally on Amazon. That's discussed in the podcast. If you have any MORE questions please ask me somewhere on the internet and hopefully I can answer them.

Better Call Saul is FINALLY coming back for its 6th & final season & it's a HUGE deal. My friend Jack & I wanted to celebrate the event by chatting (gushing) all about it. This episode is divided into 3 sections. In the first we talked about some shows we've been enjoying recently. Then we switched into general non-spoiler thoughts about Better Call Saul & Breaking Bad. After that we dove into the deep end about our favorite episodes & predictions & everything else we could think of. We couldn't be more excited about the show returning & can't wait to find out how it all wraps up. YAAAAAAAAAY!!!

On this week's podcast I got together with an old friend of mine from elementary school, Jack Brewster, to go through our top 10 TV shows of 2021. It's been a crazy year and it was fun to celebrate our favorites and share some the other had never heard of. We discussed around 20 shows here, in case you're looking for recommendations (though I imagine you've already seen many of them if you follow this stuff). Hope y'all enjoy the episode and HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR! Woo hoo!!

IT IS DONE. In the final episode of the Western Trip Series my dad & I made it back home after a few quiet traveling days highlighted by catching the new James Bond movie in a small town theater in Wyoming & some last-minute karaoke in Pueblo, Colorado. Afterwards we gave some final thoughts on the trip as a whole.
Thank you to anyone who followed along to our potentially boring recountings of the things we did. I mostly made these episodes as a reminder for myself but I'm hoping others had fun with it too.

After leaving California, we headed north to Portland & Seattle before traveling east to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Bozeman, Montana, then a couple rainy days driving 100s of miles in gigantic & beautiful Yellowstone National Park. We had a lot to cover in this episode, from bookstores to rock star memorials to airbnbs to bison & how geysers work, so buckle up!

In the 4th episode of the series we make it to San Francisco for a fun, thigh-destroying day in the city, followed by the beautiful Muir Woods & almost running out of gas on the Pacific Coast Highway before being warmly welcomed to Crescent City by some homeless Doobie Brothers. TTYL, California!

In the most scatterbrained episode of the podcast so far (which is saying a lot) our travelers pinball through Los Angeles, Hollywood, Santa Monica & up the west coast overcoming audio issues galore (this one was miraculously stitched together from 8 separate bits because the recorder on my phone kept cutting out). Hollywood was a fun, special but OVERWHELMING place, which is conveyed pretty well here. We saw quite a bit in the short time we were there & also sat in A LOT of traffic. Thankfully the remaining 3 episodes we did on the trip were less hectic! Moving right along...

This 2nd episode of our Western Trip Series is all about Arizona. After Albuquerque we spent a couple nights in Sedona before heading to the Grand Canyon for our first campout of the trip. Find out how it went & if we decided campout again or not!
Audio warning: episodes 2-5 were recorded in the truck while we were driving so they're VERY noisy but it ended up being the only time we could squeeze it in because it was a busy trip & we were too tired to record podcasts in the evenings when we finally got back to our hotel rooms. Thankfully I know you come to this podcast for the CONTENT & not the audio quality!

I recently went on a 3 & a half-week trip out west with my dad. Along the way we recorded SIX podcast episodes to help chronicle what we did. In this first episode, recorded in our hotel room, we cover the first 5 or so days from Fort Worth, Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Most of this episode is about going around to different locations from the TV shows Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul. If you aren't a fan of those it might not be interesting, but IF YOU ARE you might be in podcast heaven (I don't know you). Future episodes will cover the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, San Francisco & many other places.
I'm hoping to get these episodes out as soon as I can but it may take a month of editing. We'll see. If this is interesting you can follow my twitter, instagram & facebook accounts to see when the next one drops. I'm hoping I can do at least 2 per week but who knows?

After the previous episode my friend Jared & I realized we both had a lot to say on the topic of writing & decided to meet up again for a more focused conversation about it. Things discussed: what drew us to writing in the first place, what we write about now, writing in coffee shops, typing vs. handwriting, being introverts, what being a successful writer looks like to each of us, finding joy in the work, if TikTok has replaced the novel in our culture and some of the writers who inspire us.

I've known Jared Brown and Brandon Cowan my whole life. We met up the other day & I talked them into coming on the podcast! We sat on the back patio, smoked pipes, sipped bourbon, talked about old memories, growing up in the same church & how things have changed and/or stayed the same. It was a nice, chill, goofy (and FOCUSED) conversation... until things took a serious turn.
YOU'LL HAVE TO LISTEN TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS!

This one is special. My friend Brian Carter returned to the podcast for the 5th time for an IN PERSON conversation in his living room in East Nashville, Tennessee. This is the first episode of this podcast NOT recorded in Texas and the first with another person in way too long. Topics include: the village nature of Nashville, Croc life, how to properly enjoy returning to old familiar places, Croc stuff, the value of specificity in writing and how many pairs of Crocs we own. You can skip other episodes but you should listen to this one!

I quit my job recently and wanted to do a quick episode about it. Mostly I get into some plans I have, like a trip to Nashville and attempting to write a book. (Not sure if that'll work, but...) I'm hoping I can get more podcasts recorded and released and get to some things I haven't been able to lately. Yep. Thanks for listening.

On today's episode I played through acoustic versions of the songs from my new album Tokyo 2020. The songs were all written on acoustic guitar before I changed how they sound for the album. I wanted to talk a little about the songs & see if I could play them live again, after mostly just hearing them on my computer for the last year. Thanks for listening!

I wanted to do a last episode in my "Making an Album" series to talk about finishing it and getting it out. This has been a rough time in my life but this is something I've been working on and I really want to be done with it so I can move onto future projects.
This episode is partly an announcement of the album's release and partly a commentary on the album itself. Yep. Thanks for listening!

On today's episode I went through my personal top 10 favorite "shows" I watched this year. There are SO many things to see and I'm sure you have 10 totally different things you enjoyed more. These were just the 10 that clicked with me.
I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. Also, happy New Year to you and your people! Thanks for listening.

I went to my shrunken 2020 Thanksgiving yesterday & something strange happened: I struck up a nearly 4-hour conversation about K-pop with my cousin Savanna (21, from episodes 14 & 41)and my cousin Kellie's 13 year-old daughter Kimberly, who seems to know EVERYTHING about K-pop. At a certain point I asked them if I could record the conversation for a podcast & they were cool with it, thankfully (this is something you have to deal with when you're related to me). This was a fun & unexpected conversation & a nice distraction from the weirdness of 2020. Special thanks to Savanna and Kimberly!

I had a day off from work the other day & wasn't sure what to do. Has that ever happened to you? Did I go see The Nightmare Before Christmas? Did I say anything about Wes Anderson? And more importantly, did I buy any pants? You'll have to listen to find out! & if you keep going you may eventually hear a cover of a Gin Blossoms song. Get ready for a very normal podcast episode!

I had an idea to do an episode where I write down 10 questions about creativity & just answer them. I thought it'd be a fun semi-structured way to do an episode. Like many recent episodes this one was recorded on my phone in my car while parked in a parking lot BUT this time I was in a movie theater parking lot, which was an incredibly exciting change of pace. I was about to go to see a movie (Raiders of the Lost Ark) for the first time in a theater since I saw Onward waaaaaaay back in March. I cover this in the episode as well.
NOTE: I wanted to apologize for how abrasive the audio is. I forgot to do a mic check before I recorded & I think I talked too loud too close to the phone. Sorry to all the ears out there. WHOOPS.

I had a day off last week & decided to continue my "make up a podcast while recording it" trip I guess I'm on at the moment. I ended up at a coffee shop, then needed to find a mailbox & THEN decided to burn it all down & drive to a different Walmart than usual. So... how did it go? You'll have to listen to find out.

I enjoyed doing the previous episode without a plan and wanted to try a long one where I just turn on the microphone and see what happens. I have a fear of being a redundant bore, so this is how I faced that. What happens if you just keep talking? What will come out? Hmm...
I think I just had a lot on my mind and needed to talk.
This episode has a double purpose though. If you have trouble sleeping it might help! Yay! I enjoy doing these long, meandering solo episodes (maybe too much) so I may do this type of thing more. We'll see. Thanks!

I'm needing to take a break from the album I've been working on because there are a few too many other things vying for my time & attention at the moment. I was disappointed I wouldn't have anything to talk about on a new Making an Album episode but then I remembered that taking a break is PART of the process. So yeah. Ima set this thing aside for a little while & catch up on other things. Yay!
Oh, this episode is about that stuff. Meant to type that.

Can you believe it? I've been working on my album so much I've forgotten to make a new episode talking about working on it in around 2 months! I do consider the interview I did with my friend Josh Irwin about songwriting a part of this series though, so listen to that one if you haven't had the chance to.
Today I wanted to do a quick update about where I'm at with the album. There honestly wasn't a whole lot to talk about. I'm in the tedious zone where it's a lot of boring, detail work and just trying to juggle recording with my regular work and life schedule, which is complicated. Oh yeah, I also got an awesome new acoustic guitar since the last episode, which I talk about. Yep.

I've been in #songwritingmode for a little while & wanted to talk about it on the podcast but not just do another one by myself, so I got my good friend & fellow songwriter Josh Irwin (from episode 34) to come back on the show so we could go deep & nerdy about how we make up songs. We've both been doing this over 20 years (yikes!) so we definitely had some thoughts to hash out.

My friend Brian Carter called into the podcast for a 4th time this week. Any episode with Brian a good time. The conversation rambled through several topics including all this COVID-19 junk, the recent tornado in Nashville, what Brian (a professional chef) gets at the grocery store (the answer might surprise you)and Bob Dylan's new song (which I still haven't heard yet). Near the end we got into a screenplay I wrote recently based on characters Brian made up called Divorce Man. That's normal, right? Sure. Anywho...

Not even COVID-19 could stop this slow bullet train of podcast episodes describing the process of one man trying to make an album! No way! In this 3rd episode of the series, I (Jeff) discuss how the coronavirus has changed my day to day life (spoiler: not a whole lot). Then I move on to discuss the state of the album at this point. YEA!

I'm continuing my series of episodes about making an album today. In this 2nd one I talked about some recent gear I've collected (a microphone for my phone & a synthesizer). I included some audio samples of each one, including the WORLD PREMIERE of the song "I have a new phone(who is this?)" and a long synthesizer loop you can fall asleep to (you're so welcome). I also discuss trying to come up with an album cover early & if doing it BEFORE deciding on the songs is a good or bad thing. Hmm. This episode was recorded in a parking lot on my phone. Woo hoo! I'm planning to start working on a new album of music in the next couple of weeks and I wanted to do a series of monthly(ish) podcast episodes documenting the process as I go. My hope is to release these here and there to give people an idea of what goes into making an album that at the moment doesn't exist yet.
I recorded this on a "busy" Sunday night in my kitchen while I made macaroni and cheese (I explain why in the episode). I wanted to talk about how it feels before you start working on something when the sky is wide open and it can be anything. Thanks for listening!

Since I started doing this I've had quite a few people ask if they could talk about how to make a podcast, since everyone these days either has one or wants to start one. Usually it's a thing where they want to sit down & discuss it & we NEVER can find time. So I wanted to do an episode I could point those people to where I talk through how I myself do it (though there are MANY ways to make these things). This is a more technical and behind the scenes episode than usual and it's more of a general overview of how to do it than anything else. I hope it helps some of you. If anyone has any questions ask me on the internet and I'll try to help if I can.

My sister Brittany Garmon has had a busy year with quite a few changes. I wanted to have her on so she could talk about what it was like to lose 80 pounds and then wrap up her time as an elementary math teacher to become a health coach (yes, I said changes). It's been fun to watch her grow so much recently and come out of her shell in a lot of unexpected ways. She and her family live in a small Texas town where high school football is king. My friend Brick (from episode 42 about Long Distance Romance) returned to the podcast this week to tell me about his job as an EMT. We discussed how he got into the profession, what a normal day looks like and how doing what he does gives him a sixth sense when he's off the clock.

This past Monday night, with a busy few days ahead of me, I realized I didn't have time to record a podcast for this week. Then I got an idea to see what would happen if I got onto a discord voice party and invited whoever wanted to join in for some conversational chaos. I went in not sure who the guests would be or what we would talk about (or if it would even work). It was an experiment.
After a few minutes people started showing up and we chatted about random topics until 37 minutes in when the topic of Star Wars came up and... it just became a Star Wars podcast from there.
Special thanks to my friends Liz, Bryan, and Peter for talking to me.

Doing this podcast has taught me that interviewing is a real skill and it's NOT easy. My friend Peter Greenwood is a DJ & podcast host based near Glasgow in Scotland and was kind enough to come on to let me pick his brain about how someone who talks to people for a living does his job. It was a fun chat.
This episode is part of a crossover event with his radio show/podcast, The Peter Greenwood Show. This is part 1, but after he came on my show I went on his and he interviewed me about my music and writing. I'll just say it was nice to be a guest for once and not have to prepare anything. That should be available sometime soon (google is your friend).
BTW, this episode comes with a colorful language warning. If you don't like certain words you may want to skip this one. 😁

I got distracted and out of my podcast-making routine so I thought maybe if I did a quick solo episode and just played some recent songs it might help get the ball rolling again. On weeks like this one I'm glad my podcast has shapeshifting built into it. Yap. These are the songs I played:

My friend Liz is beginning her career as a therapist and was kind enough to come talk about what exactly "therapy" is. Liz is an easy person to talk to and is full of insight and wisdom about how our minds work. If you've ever wanted to pick a therapist's brain you'll probably enjoy this one. I learned a lot from our conversation.

My goat-loving friend Rachel Kay (from episode 40) returned to the show with her boyfriend Brick to give us a deep dive of how they met and got to know each other through discord and twitch, like all those classic romance movies your grandma grew up with. We get into the highs and lows of what it's like to meet and get to know each other online and then finally to come face to face... IRL.

My cousin Savanna (from episode 14) and I hurried out to the first showing at our local theater of Quentin Tarantino's new 9th movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. We recorded our thoughts before and then after seeing the movie. Definitely watch the movie before you listen because we get into SPOILERS.
NOTE: I recorded this one differently than I usually do and you hear a lot of air blow into the microphones. Sorry about that. I'll use a foam windscreen next time I do this setup. Hopefully the content will make it worth enduring that annoyance.

My friend Rachel Kay hesitates to call herself a goat expert but I DO (gosh darn it). She called in from Memphis, Tennessee to discuss growing up on a farm, homesteading, goat breeding, the difference between goat and cow milk (basically EVERYTHING you'd wanna know about goats). I also found out if she liked La La Land. (SPOILER: She liked the shots)

In the 3rd of the solo conversations with the guys from the Tastemakers episodes, James Baker came by to tell me about his recent trip to Japan. He brought a box of souvenirs and we went through each item, which reminded him of different parts of his trip. I'm posting pictures of the things we were looking at on my instagram page if you'd like to see what we're talking about, as a visual supplement. (I'm jeffgrant4real over there)

Cole Watkins from the Tastemakers episodes came by to discuss a strange movie he is fascinated by, The Man From Earth (you can watch it on Amazon Prime). I was unfamiliar with this one but I watched it and we discussed its merits here. It's essentially about a college professor who is leaving town and decides to tell his colleagues that he's been alive for a VERY long time.
This one is kind of 2 episodes in one. After discussing the movie we moved onto other topics and it got pretty free-ranging from there. The 2nd part starts at about 51:15 if you'd just like to listen to that part.
I'm hoping to do more episodes like this with the Tastemakers guys where we focus on one topic and have a longer discussion about it.

This episode of the podcast is straight up just an album I made in the summer of 2018 called Plight of the Frankentweens. No talking, just songs. The artwork is by my cousin Savanna White. These are the songs:
1) Do Not Disturb 2) Poem on Fire 3) Automatic Doom 4) Gray is in Our Blood 5) Ghost of a Daisy Wheel 6) Tweeting @ Tokyo 7) Gag Order 8) Kid's Pissed 9) Don't Be a Stranger 10) Didn't Barf 11) Secret Song

After some time away, Jeff returns to the podcast to read some listener mail and play some songs (his own plus some recent favorites). This is the first episode of the podcast! This was originally made on Friday, December 6, 2013. I did the initial 9 episodes in one batch over a few months (the 10th was done about a year later, I think), then I took a break until December of 2017. These haven't been available for a while. I wanted to get the original 10 added to the collection so you could see how the show "evolved".

My friend Brian Carter (from episodes 26 & 29) called me the other night to talk about, you know, whatever, which is normal for us, and we decided we should record it for the podcast. This was an unplanned, very random conversation about... gosh, it's hard to remember (making up a standup routine, Toy Story 2, Lonesome Dove & bugs were brought up). We had a good time though. Hope you do too. (Warning: there's a little cussing in this, in case that bothers you) — If you’d like to help keep this podcast alive you can donate cash money to Jeff. I genuinely don’t know what my life would look like if Josh Irwin wasn’t in it. I think everybody has people like that and he’s one for me. We met in 1999 at a bible study, even though we’d been sitting next to each other in a community college classroom for a few months. We bonded over being new songwriters and a shared restlessness with life in Fort Worth, Texas, where we lived.
One night, which may have been November 1, 2002, in the parking lot of a movie theater, Josh and I decided mostly on a whim to ditch Texas and move to Nashville, Tennessee to chase our songwriting dreams (like you do). This was a SUDDEN decision and we left a few days later, on the 7th, with 1 truck, some mixtapes, suitcases, 2 guitars and a combined bank of about $300. Most of the people we knew figured we’d be back in a week or 2.
We each lasted about 6 or 7 years in Nashville and collected MANY wild stories over that time, which we dig into here.
These days Josh is married with 2 young red-headed boys of his own. We were happy to have his wife Amelia join us for our chat. She had a lot of stories to share as well. It was a FUN night (Josh’s birthday, actually).
Buckle up, this is a good conversation. — If you’d like to help keep this podcast alive you can donate cash money to Jeff. Welp, the podcast is back. That was quick!
A week or so ago my old friend and roommate Jeremy Dane messaged me on facebook to see about meeting up to catch up (we have NOT kept in very good contact over the years, sadly). A plan was set. Then, 2 hours before we were gonna hang out I texted him to see if he'd be up for recording our conversation for a podcast. He was down. This episode is that talk.
Jeremy and I were roommates in Denton, Texas from August 2000 to May 2001 while he was going to the University of North Texas and I was dropping out for the 2nd time. During the conversation we got into old stories as well as his church planting experiences and much more. THANKS FOR LISTENING!
If you would like to donate cash money to help keep this podcast alive get a hold of Jeff on the internet somewhere, he will be very responsive and alert.

This is a quick episode to let everybody know I'm going to pause the podcast for a little while (starting December 27th). Mainly, I'm not doing enough episodes to justify the hosting expense. I'm hoping to turn the podcast back on sometime later, when I'm wanting to do it more. I host these episodes on SoundCloud but my year subscription is almost over. Luckily they won't delete, they'll just be hidden until I resubscribe. (whew!)
The main message here: if you enjoyed an episode you might want to download it now. They won't be available for a while starting December 27th.
Thanks everybody for following along! This has been fun to do and I'd like to get back to it but I need to focus on some other projects for now. See you on all the other 50 social media places, I'm sure.

With great podcasting comes great, um, episode descriptions... Those Tastemaker guys that everybody can't get enough of reunited for more unadulterated laughter and, you know, like recommending stuff to each other again. Hear James talk about his recent European Disney cruise, wonder at the majesty of our recent TV viewing experiences and bask in the cavernous lore of Spider-Cop. It's an ugly job but somebody's gotta save the public from bland living. (yep)

Our old friend Brian Carter from a few episodes ago called back into the podcast this week for a late night conversation about the music we listened to as kids and teenagers and how it shaped us. Often during our normal phone calls we’ll drift into this topic and it seemed like it’d be a fun thing to record. We wanted to get into that age when you stop listening to the music your parents like and start getting into your own stuff. Near the end we transition into how the music we were into growing up affected the music we ended up making after high school.
Topics include: 80s pop/MTV, Amy Grant, New Kids on the Block, our 1st CDs, Kris Kross, Too $hort, Nirvana, Weezer, Sublime, soundtracks, Counting Crows, R.E.M., the local Christian punk scene around Fort Worth in the late 90s, the Cornerstone music festival and the music we ourselves made.
NOTE: Listening back to this I noticed we made some mistakes as far as release dates and I said Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump & Shawshank Redemption came out in 1993 and it was 1994! So sorry! It was very late when we talked! We don't know everything!! Anyway...
Thanks for listening. We hope this is as enjoyable for you as it was for us.

The Tastemakers (Cole Watkins, Ronald Allison, James Baker & myself) reconvened for another round of recommending & general pod(dy) shooting. Think of this as Show & Tell minus the show part. We cover movies, TV shows, video games, bands, comic books, etc. This is the 2nd time we've done this so if you'd like to hear the first one simply scroll backwards in your feed.
The recommendations come quick (not really) so if you'd like to jump around to another topic here are the times:

My brother-in-law Clay Garmon is on the podcast today. We talked about his experiences as a head football coach at Eden High School in central Texas. They play 6-Man football there so we discussed how that works as well as Clay's rigorous schedule during football season, life in small town Texas, his new diet and a bunch of other topics. Clay is a very busy guy so I was glad we were able to find time to record this conversation.

BTW, if you are interested in coming on the podcast hit me up on social media somewhere. We can do it over the phone if that's more convenient for you. My hope is to talk to whoever is up for it and we can get into whatever you'd like. Randomness is a theme for this thing. So let me know!
My good friend Brian Carter (@briangoeswild on Instagram)phoned into the podcast last night for a surprise conversation about hunting and fishing on public land, living in Nashville, the differences between a chef and a cook, artistic integrity, jumping out of airplanes and much more. This is a long, rambling conversation so if you're bored by one topic you may be fascinated by the next (I don't know you). Skipping ahead here and there wouldn't bother us (just PLEASE don't tell us! We're sensitive people!).
BTW, If you're listening to this the day it posts (Sunday, April 22) it's Brian's birthday, so track him down on Instagram (or in real life if you can) and wish him a happy birthday! Yea!!

Do you ever sit and think, "Hmm. I wonder what Jeff watches on TV"? Well, congratulations, today's episode is for you. I went through all the shows I'm currently watching. That's pretty much all this is. No guest. No rules. Just straight up telling the people what's up.
CORRECTION: I said a few times that the great Netflix food show Ugly Delicious was made by and stars David Chen but it's actually David CHANG. I said it wrong because I'm stupid.

The Evolving Podcast's Nintendo correspondent Richard Ohlsen returns to the show this week to help celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I got to talk to one of my favorite people this week: my nearly 9 year-old niece Kenzie. I had to be creative recording-wise because—and I don't know if you've noticed this—kids don't like to sit still! We ended up sitting in the cab of a pickup with the recorder on the seat, so you'll hear a lot of scooting around noise. Still, this was a very fun interview and I'm hoping to do more with this cool kid in the future.

Please enjoy the highly PC 2nd half of my conversation with Cody Spencer on movies released in 2017. After discussing the 9 films nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars in Part 1 we transitioned into the movies we personally enjoyed last year (that weren't already mentioned).
Here are the times if you'd like to skip around:
00:00 - Intro 2:13 - The Disaster Artist 14:50 - Baby Driver 17:55 - The Last Jedi 29:10 - Blade Runner 2049 41:22 - Coco 45:05 - Last Flag Flying 51:20 - Logan 1:00:15 - The Big Sick 1:13:10 - What we're looking forward to in 2018 1:16:10 - I, Tonya 1:17:49 - The Greatest Showman 1:21:38 - TV/Breaking Bad/Lost/Sepinwall/The Wire
Thanks for listening! Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on iTunes and Soundcloud.
I got together with my "friend" Cody Spencer to discuss our thoughts on the 9 movies nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars this year. The plan was to talk about those and then move onto our personal favorites of 2017. I thought it'd be around an hour but NO, it went for 3 HOURS. So this is the first part, which covers the Best Picture nominees (Part 2 will come later this week).
Here is a list of the times for each movie in case you want to skip around:
00:00 - Intro 4:30 - Start of the conversation 15:30 - The Shape of Water 29:20 - Darkest Hour 32:29 - Get Out 40:05 - Dunkirk 50:10 - The Post 1:00:15 - Phantom Thread 1:08:35 - Call Me By Your Name 1:18:05 - Lady Bird 1:24:20 - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
TO BE CONTINUED...

I got together with my friends Cole Watkins, Ron Allison and James Baker so we could recommend stuff to each other. We each came with at least 3 things (though Ron didn't totally understand the prompt...). We went in a circle and talked about each thing, like you do.
Here are the topics and times on the off chance some of this isn't fascinating to you:

In this BIG episode, Jeff talks to his mom and grandma at the SAME TIME. Wanna hear people talk about facebook, ordering groceries online, This Is Us (briefly), who the cutest NFL quarterback is, what happened the day JFK was assassinated, what type of TV show our family would be and SO MUCH more? You've come to the right place. Hope you've got nothing going on for the next 100 minutes!!

New episode! I'm grinding my brain trying to figure out what to fill these podcasts with but I remembered I can always fall back on tossing out some new songs. I kind of did a grab bag of a few for a quick episode. Thanks for listening!
Songs: 1) Poem on Fire (3:27) 2) Tweeting @ Tokyo (7:33) 3) Ghost of a Daisy Wheel (11:00) 4) Puerto Rico is an Island (14:29) 5) Don't Be a Stranger (18:41)
The picture here is actually one of the original covers (and titles) of my most recent album that ended up being called Hot Take Fight to the Death. Apparently iTunes doesn't take pixelated images because it thinks they're low quality, even if it's done for "artistic purposes". At least I think that's what happened. And now I'm sad remembering this because this is a cooler cover than the one I ended up using. Anyway...
Thanks for listening! Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on iTunes and Soundcloud.
SOLO POD. I think I've said this about 40 times already, but I've spent the last several years trying to learn how to write screenplays. And I spent last week trying to come up with a new story for the next one and since that's where my mind has been I thought it'd be fun to just talk about the strange, often frustrating process of trying to make up stories. A lotta writer talk on this one.

In this episode, Jeff gets on the phone with his old friend Richard Ohlsen to discuss a mutual life-long obsession: Nintendo. The audio is a little wonky but if you can survive it you'll get to hear a couple dudes in their 30s talk about video games (then you can die happy, hopefully). Thanks for listening! Happy New Year!

Today's episode is more a psychological obstacle course than a podcast. Host Jeff Grant throws down the gauntlet to see just how much pure, unadulterated boredom his listeners can bear. There is no prize at the end of this test other than the awareness that the people in your life have a TRUE LISTENER in their midst. See how long YOU can survive — THE BORING CHALLENGE!!
Thanks for listening! Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast is available on iTunes and Soundcloud.
STAR WARS EPISODE!
I got together with my cousin Savanna White and her BFF (#confirmed) Alex Encinas in advance of The Last Jedi to talk all things Star Wars. This could be fascinating or so so boring depending on your interest in the topic or excitement about the new movie. Find out our theories, favorite characters and "ships". And try out a new drinking game: drink every time one of us says "like" (NO DON'T DO IT YOU'LL DIE IN 5 MINUTES!!!).
We're hoping to do another episode after we've seen the movie. You've been WARNED.
NOTE: If you like this, download it. I'm not sure how long I can keep up each episode since I'm trying to get new ones out. Hoping to evolve this issue soon, but we ain't there yet.
GO STAR WARS!!!

Hey everyone! I did a quick episode to try and dust off the podcast. These are the segments:
The service I use and recommended to independent musicians for getting their music into digital stores is Distrokid. Website: distrokid.com
NOTE: This was originally recorded as a direct-to-soundcloud thing, but I wanted to get it in iTunes, so I made it the 11th episode of my podcast, though that isn't mentioned during the episode. #late
Check it out! I played through all 10 songs from my new album Hot Take Fight to the Death!! only, get this, on acoustic guitar and IN A BATHROOM. What are you waiting for, you know you want to hear this!
