During a 2020 trip to Palm Springs, where she struggled to find a stylish hat that could accommodate her hair comfortably in the 105-degree heat. This challenge highlighted a significant gap in the market for individuals with curls, locs, fros, or larger head sizes, who often have to choose between comfort and style. While mildly inconvenient for most of us, this presented a very frustrating issue for Kristi, who traveled over 100,000 miles for work annually!

But she had an “A-Ha!” moment when packing for a yoga retreat- perhaps finding more versatile pieces that had multiple wardrobe functions could help resolve the issue. She was disappointed in the quality of the mass-produced multi-way pieces she found, so after procuring a sewing machine from Craigslist, she got to work!

Over time and with a great deal of research, Kristi grew her idea into a seven-figure business, Encircled, of which she is the proud CEO. In this episode, Kristi shares the secrets of how her booming business was launched with surprisingly limited capital.

How can you find success in your business, even with very limited capital?

About Kristi:

Kristi Soomer is the founder and CEO of Encircled, a Canadian-made line of versatile, sustainably made clothing that helps women streamline their wardrobes.

Inspired by her love of travel and dislike for checking a bag, Kristi started Encircled in 2012 while she was working as a management consultant. At the time, she was travelling over 100,000 miles a year and found there was a lack of travel clothes that blended style with function. Kristi's first multi-way-design - The Chrysalis Cardi - was made on the kitchen floor of her condo using a sewing machine she found on Craigslist.

Over the next two years, Kristi immersed herself in fabric research and courses in illustration and sewing to create a capsule collection of sustainably made basics and multi-way clothing. In 2014, she left her corporate job to open Encircled's first studio space in Toronto.

Since then, Kristi has grown Encircled into a seven-figure business that was named a Certified B Corp in 2018. Kristi is committed to meeting high ethical and sustainable standards in all aspects of her company, from using fabrics that honour the environment to providing good working conditions and fair wages for her sewers.

While attending university, Hannah King was taught a crucial business principle that would impact her life: rather than creating a product or business and then looking for customers, you need to identify a problem or need first, and design your product or business to solve it.

Being Guatemalan-American and visiting the small villages of Guatemala during her school breaks opened her eyes to an issue that the indigenous people faced. Their traditional artwork and handmade products were beautiful and unique, but when tourism slowed, they struggled to make sales.

Hannah recognized the need for a platform for these artists, similar to what U.S. artisans have to promote their products online. Thus, after winning a business competition from her school which gave her start-up funds, her business Woven Futures was born.

In this episode, Hannah shares the background of her incredible entrepreneurial journey and gives insight to other young entrepreneurs looking to get their start.

How can you meet a need or fill a gap in your community through your business?

About Hannah:
Hannah King is the founder of Woven Futures, an ethical fashion company with a mission of preserving Latin American Textiles and Indigenous artisan techniques through modern and sustainable fashion.

She began Woven while in college, after she spent the summer in her home country of Guatemala. There she met several indigenous artisans that made incredible textile pieces, but struggled to sell them.

As a Guatemalan-American, Hannah knew that she had the unique ability to unite both cultures through something as universal as fashion.

Woven Futures now employs over 60 artisans in Guatemala and make 100% organic, plant-based, and up-cycled women’s fashion & accessories that not only help preserve cultures but also empower the people who make them. Hannah has since quit her full-time job to go full time on her business and continue to expand Woven Future's mission.

It’s a wonder that serial entrepreneur Katrina Garnes finds time to sleep. Between her 9-to-5 position as Director of Marketing and Communications in higher education, her role as Founder and CEO of Cold Storm Media Productions LLC and Delectable Vending LLC, and her recently launched coaching website, Katrina is constantly in action, making carer moves and securing her multiple streams of income.

But Katrina will be the first to tell you- being an entrepreneur with multiple side hustles and “passive” income streams isn’t the laid-back, glamorized career that social media influencers often make it out to be.

Running a business (or two, or three) takes a great deal of hard work, personal dedication, and countless long nights and weekends spent pursuing your passion and creating a financial safety net. This allows you to plan your “exit strategy” and establish a name for yourself- requiring years of work before you get to sip those cocktails while you work from the beach (seriously, social media influencers- no one does that).

In this episode, Katrina reveals the reality of running an entrepreneurial empire, and offers advice for anyone just starting out.

How can you set yourself and your business up for financial success?

About Katrina:

Katrina Garnes has been an entrepreneur juggling multiple businesses and media opportunities since graduating from Francis Marion University with her Bachelor’s in Mass Communications. She has been a side-hustle queen, working a 9 to 5 job serving as Director of Marketing and Communications, while juggling the role of being Founder and CEO of Cold Storm Media Productions LLC and Delectable Vending LLC.

Manifesting kindness in the world begins with turning kindness upon ourselves. When Orly Wahba was a young teenager and faced a storm of family turmoil and misfortune, depression dragged her to a low point. She withdrew into herself and was forced to battle with her circumstances and her own emotions.

But Orly came out of her experience as a changed person. Why? She realized that while she was waiting for others to be kind to her and show her compassion and love, she could start by recognizing her own self-worth. From there, Orly promised to be that source of kindness for others, and began giving of herself from a place of abundance rather than sacrifice.

This led to her creation of the Life Vest Inside non-profit, where she spreads kindness through the world and champions the value of genuine human connection. Orly shares the details of her journey, discusses healing and finding your purpose, and explains how a shift in perspective can change everything.

How could the power of kindness change your life?

About Orly:Orly is the founder of the global non-profit, Life Vest Inside, a kindness expert, educator, best selling author, entrepreneur and keynote speaker who inspires audiences to take action. Her talks and workshops provide the groundwork for lasting change and motivate people to become the best version of themselves so that they can influence the world for good. Drawing from her personal journey, groundbreaking science, and her signature wit, Orly inspires people to tap into the power of kindness—the most underutilized skill in today’s world. Through her talks, Orly demonstrates how kindness and a simple shift in perspective can alter the way a person connects with themselves and the world around them.

My guest on today's show is Tanya Conner-Green of Whole Hearted Business Coaching. Tanya helps women grow their business and attract dream clients with ease by getting visible online so they can make more money (we’re talking multi-6-figures), have more freedom, and make a bigger impact in their communities.

During this episode, we discuss Tanya's unorthodox journey into entrepreneurship and the realities of corporate america versus being an entrepreneur. We also discuss vulnerability and how Brene Brown's TED Talk completely changed Tanya's life. Finally, we chat about how the thing that scares you the most is probably the thing you need to be doing because it's actually holding you back from success. For example, Tanya talks about how conquering one of her biggest fears completely transformed her business, and shares the process she takes her clients through to do the same thing for their businesses.
