It's the most wonderful time of the year. 'Tis the season for changing leaves, pumpkin ale, and HORROR movies. In the realm of 1980s horror remakes, there was The Thing, The Fly, and here in 1988 we have the (at the time) state of the art gruesome shocker, The Blob. This movie is more sinister, more hard core, and more fun than the original! Although clearly contextualized by 1980s cold war cynicism, excellent blob effects and some intense scares enhance a solid script for a fun night of terror. Here we talk about how The Blob is a truly terrifying monster, and how it finely represents cosmic horror and H.P. Lovecraft. A few words are given about the new Godzilla teaser, and the monster fanboy Treehouse of Horror opening as directed by Guillermo Del Toro.
