Trinity Sunday! New Sermon Series! Yes please!

On this Trinity Sunday, we are starting a new sermon series on the Apostles Creed titled, “tethered to truth: Apostles Creed”. We will be taking a deep dive into everything Apostles Creed. To start off the series, Pastor Jeni begins by telling what the Apostles Creed is, why it was/is needed, and how we can still cherish/value it and learn from it even today. Join us for this intriguing new series as we learn more about this ancient creed of the post-Acts Church.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • We have more resilience to remain stable in the winds and waves of difference because we are tethered to something greater than our distinctives.
  • Brief History: dates back to the 2nd century - used as a baptismal creed - current version dates back to 8th century & has remained essentially unchanged since.
  • “I believe…” in such a way that all other life choices & convictions will be tethered to these truths even when doubt arises.
  • What is inside of us comes out and what comes out ends up inside of us!
  • “God the Father Almighty” is a subversive declaration proclaiming that our God has power & authority over all other powers and authorities - seen and unseen.
  • “…Maker of heaven & earth…” God is over all because he created all.

ASCENSION SUNDAY!

This week, the Church worldwide celebrates the ascension of Christ following His resurrection. At BCC we celebrated by looking at the Scripture about this as well as taking a look at the Now and Not Yet Kingdom of God. Join us for a special Sunday in which we celebrate what Christ’s ascension meant for believers back then and for us now.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • The Kingdom of God NOT YET will be established with Christ’s final return when the Heaven’s & Earth become one, fully under the reign of God.
  • The Kingdom of God NOW is the rule & reign of God in the lives of believers everywhere.
  • Are we asking the wrong questions today?
  • When we trust the who, we less desperately need to know when.

Who are you watching?

What’s your focus?

Where are your eyes?

  • Be strong & courageous because the faithful God of your past Is the same God who will be faithful in your future.
  • Be strong & courageous because the same good Word that has influenced your past will continue to influence your future.
  • Be strong & courageous because the same God that Joshua trusted is the same God you can trust today.

Annual Church Meeting! This Sunday was a special Sunday in the yearly life of our church in which Pastor Jeni led us through some ways that God has been using our church to Make an Impact in our community & our world. Following this celebration, we continued on with continued in our series, “What’s my Calling"?” Looking again at 2 Timothy 2:20-21, Pastor Jeni preached on how we define and live out the “Assignments” that God gives us in addition to our (Week 1) Calling and (Week 2) Appointment. Join us for an out-of-the-ordinary type of service and dive into week 3 of “What’s my Calling?”.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • Assignments - “ready for every good work”
  • Assignments are almost always progressive even if they are not impressive
  • When God gives you an assignment, he wants you to show up, but you need you to show up.
  • When we are set apart for God’s use, He infuses the ordinary tasks of life with his extraordinary power. Even in the seemingly mundane assignments, God works through us to bring about His divine plan.
  • No matter how simple or routine, each assignment can be a sacred opportunity if we will recognize it as a part of God’s holy calling.
  • Every Assignment is for good!
  • Our lives are made up of “for such a time as this” moments.

Following up from the initial week in the series, “What’s my Calling?”, Pastor Jeni continues with the question/explanation of what our “Appointment” is within the Kingdom and Family of God. Join us as we journey through 2 Timothy 2 and John 15 to discover what God desires of us as called & appointed sons & daughters.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • We tend to think “the Call” is to a specific ministry, position, or title.
  • Appointment - “appointed to the Master”
  • The “Appointment” is to produce fruit.
  • When we talk about our call to follow, our holy obligation is to know Jesus so that we can follow Him.
  • When we talk about our “Apppointment” to bear fruit, our holy obligation is to know ourselves.
  • How did God gift me and what does that tell me about my appointment to bear fruit?
  • The fruit we bear should bless God & bless others.
  • The “Appointment” to bear fruit never changes.

Is your life bearing fruit?

Following an incredible Easter weekend, Pastor Jeni moves us into a new series titled, “What is my Calling?”. Within this sermon series she will be covering the calling given to us by God specifically in three ways: Calling, Appointment, and Assignment. In week 1 of the series, Pastor Jeni preached on the difference between the general and static Call of every believer to “follow me” and the Assignment that can be more fluid and changing throughout our lives. Join us as we seek God’s will for our lives and learn how to imitate Christ together.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • We tend to think “The Call” is to a specific ministry, position, or title.
  • Calling - “set apart as holy”
  • The Call is to follow.

How do we become “set apart as holy”?

  • We FOLLOW the one who IS the very definition of holy!
  • You cannot imitate someone you do not know.
  • The call to follow Jesus can be lived out no matter what our assignment is.

Things to consider as you listen:

Continuing on the journey towards the Cross and Easter, Pastor Jeni preaches the fifth sermon in the series, “Made for More” as we take a look at John 12:1-8. Within this passage, Pastor Jeni urges us to see Mary’s sacrifice of her perfume and incredible act of humility in cleaning Jesus’ feet with her hair as costly yet adequate forms of worship to Christ. Join us this week as we take a look at four characters within the story: Mary, Martha, Jesus, and Judas.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • No act of worship can ever cost us too much.
  • Is our affection for Jesus evident enough to “fill the house with its fragrance?”

John 12:4-8

4 Significant Things Jesus said in this passage:

  1. “Leave her alone”
  2. “She did this is preparation for my burial”
  3. “You will always have the poor among you”
  4. “You will not always have me”

Where do you see yourself in this story?

Martha - Mary - Judas

For the fourth week of Lent we continue in the sermon series, “Made for More”. Pastor Jeni takes us to the book of Luke (15:11-32) to discover what we can learn from the widely recognized Parable of the Lost Son. Come discover who Jesus invites to His Table of fellowship and grace - and therefore who we should as well.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • An unrepentant heart breeds seperation.
  • Because of Christ, we have reason to be in fellowship with people our culture tells us to despise.
  • There’s no societal norm then or now more important than the return of lost humans.
  • In God’s economy, there’s always enough grace to go around.
  • The contrast between the utter humiliation of the younger brother and the self-righteous pride of the older brother is obvious. The father attempts to reconcile the two with his ethic of love.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • Theodicy - the attempt to explain how evil’s presence is compatible with a wholly good and all-powerful God.
  • ALL people on ALL sides of this story have the same problem and the same need: Jesus.
  • Repentance is essential.
  • God’s patience with you is nearly infinite.

Week 3 of the series, “Give Us Your Heart” continues in the passage of Scripture found in Exodus 3:1-15 (NLT). Through this passage, Pastor Jeni continues to remind us of the vision that our church uses to impact our community for Christ: ENCOUNTER GOD - JOURNEY DEEPER - MAKE AN IMPACT. This week she preaches about the ways the Scripture urges us to be involved in what God is doing in His world by investing in God, building our relationship with Him, and being active agents of change in our community.

Join us here at BCC as we continue our series titled, “The Church Embodied” as Pastor Jeni once again preaches on the theme of how we are the embodied Church of Jesus Christ. Specifically this week, Pastor Jeni preaches from Acts 2:42-47 and talks a bit about the origins of the Church and what we can glean from its early days in context to us today.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • Digital connection is masquerading as the God-given gift of connection & community.
  • “devoted themselves” - persist obstinately - keep on with devotion - associate closely - to continue to do something with intense effort with the possible implication of doing so despite difficulty
  • The Holy Spirit embodied within the people of God pressed them into one another with extreme devotion.
  • We’re invited to ponder how our worship/study of God is compulsively enmeshed with our communal life & prayer.
  • By His Spirit, God builds the Church.
  • Devoted community rooted in continuous commitment to God & one another compels a lonely, lost world to wonder about the Good News that binds us together.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • To be the City on a Hill is to be a community of people devoted to living out God’s new social order.
  • A single candle in the dark does very little - - - > “YOU”
  • A collection of candles transform the darkness - - - > “YA’LL”
  • God gave us embodied community so that we would never be alone.
  • God also gave us embodied community so that God’s kingdom might come on earth as it is in heaven.
  • When we love our neighbors, the whole goal of communicating, “You matter to us”, is always so that they might come to know that they matter to God.

Following up from the first week of the series, “The Church Embodied”, Pastor Jeni continues on the theme of who we are to be as the Church in our community and our world. In week two, Pastor Jeni takes us through Deuteronomy 10:12-22 & Genesis 12:1-3 and urges us to combat the loneliness epidemic by being together in community, loving your neighbor, and allowing God to work through us to the least of these.

Things to consider as you listen:

  • The call to love & obey God is something we do together - and even in that we are profoundly no alone!
  • Before it’s ever a strategy for reaching the lost, obeying God is aimed at the well-being of the people.
  • A community living in obedience to God is God’s best for all of creation.
  • When a community of people truly love God & love others, all are better for it.
  • Their chosen status was not only for their own benefit, but also so that others might find belonging within God’s community - especially the most vulnerable.
  • Our together life of worship & love tells a story about our God.

Theme Verse: Proverbs 3:5 (NASB)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Things to consider as you listen:

  • Trust knows that God doesn’t perfect conditions to work triumphantly.
  • Trust produces evidence.
  • Just because it happened to you doesn’t mean God wasn’t with you.
  • God’s provision secures God’s promises.
  • Trust looks for God in the ordinary, underwhelming places.
  • The way we demonstrate trust is an opportunity to witness to God’s power at work.
  • Trust helps us remember who we’re called to be.
  • Trust remembers that God is the God of the turnaround story.

In the fourth week of our sermon series titled, “Trust: When Things Are Not As They Seem”, Pastor Jeni preaches from the wisdom book of Job. Within Job she says that we can learn many lessons on how to trust in the Lord even when their is no explanation for our suffering. Join us this week to be inspired by the life, trials, and lessons from the book of Job and how they can teach us about extraordinary trust in the face of difficulties.

Theme Verse: Proverbs 3:5 (NASB)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Videos on Job

  1. BOOK OF JOB SUMMARY
  2. STORY OF JOB

BIG QUESTIONS TO ASK:

  1. Does my suffering always NEED an explanation?
  2. Is God JUST? If so, why do “good people” suffer?
  3. Will I be FAITHFUL even when it doesn’t make sense?

Things to consider as you listen:

  • Be careful what you say to someone who is suffering.
  • Emotions don’t disrupt our relationship with God. They deepen it.
  • The key is this: Job stayed in the conversation.
  • False Assumption:

    • Wise & Good = Success/Rewards
    • Evil & Ignorant = Disaster/Punishment
    • Our view of the world is limited, therefore, we simply cannot fully see the “big picture”.
    • While our view is limited, God has his eyes on everything-everywhere-all the time.
    • Our questions & suffering are really an invitation to move closer to God & trust him.

Theme Verse: Proverbs 3:5 (NASB)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Things to consider as you listen:

  • No worldly power or authority can match the authority of the Kingdom of God.
  • Sometimes God’s plan is out & and sometimes it’s through.
  • “There are more on our side than on theirs” (vv. 16)
  • Sometimes we don’t need deliverance. We need eyes that see!
  • Kingdom battles are not fought with earthly means.
  • We join generations of people who meet a trustworthy God in this unlikely story.

This week at BCC we started a new series simply titled, “Trust”. In this series we will be exploring radical trust in God in all circumstances. This is a not a trust that is always without fear or doubt, but rather a choice of trust in a God who has our best end in sight. Join us for week one of “Trust”.

Theme Verse: Proverbs 3:5 (NASB)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Things to consider as you listen:

  • Trust in God is a day by day decision.
  • When our own understanding is misleading, we choose to trust the one who’s always working.
  • God Is in the midst of the always-developing story of humanity.
  • This side of Heaven evil and good will always intermingle, but God’s purposes will also always prevail.
  • Unchecked pride can lead only to disaster.
  • Sometimes what feels like harm is actually a gift of grace.
  • God acts with the whole scope of the human story in mind.

    • When it doesn’t make sense, get BLANK.
    • I wonder how God is BLANK his story into the world right now?
    • God sees beyond the moment and see the trajectory.

Listen to the final sermon in this series, Holy Roar. Together we have journeyed through 6 of 7 Hebrew words for Praise that are found in the Old Testament. It seems fitting today to call our attention to one of the many Psalms of Praise as you prepare to listen to this podcast.

Praise the Lord! Let all that I am praise the Lord.
I will praise the Lord as long as I live.
I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.
Don’t put your confidence in powerful people;
there is no help for you there.
When they breathe their last, they return to the earth,
and all their plans die with them.
But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.
He keeps every promise forever.
He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry.
The Lord frees the prisoners.
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down.
The Lord loves the godly.
The Lord protects the foreigners among us.
He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked.
The Lord will reign forever.
He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations.
Praise the Lord! - Psalms 146:1-10 NLT

As you prepare to listen to this podcast, check out this song that relates to one of the Hebrew words discussed. “Praise Before my Breakthrough” by Brian & Katie Torwalt has been a heart anthem of mine in different difficult seasons of life. Click here to listen. Some of the most powerful moments of worship we will ever experience will be the moments we worship through our brokenness. Perhaps you can recount a time when this was true for you?

The words of bridge move me every time I sing them.
He who came in power, He will come again
He who heals the sick, won't He move again
He who raised the dead, won't He raise again
I will sing, I will sing
Oh I will sing, I will sing

Whatever season you’re in, I pray we might together keep words of praise on our lips. May we allow intentional worship to bolster our faith & prepare our hearts to receive the peace of God!

Listen as Pastor Jeni Hall brings us a message about praising our Lord. This episodes message comes from the book of Psalm. This is Pastor Jeni’s message to the church:

“As I think towards our Sunday worship gathering, my heart wanders to a Psalm that embodies what I pray for each of you: “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’” – Psalm 122:1 NLT

I pray we REJOICE when we think about gathering with the people of God at Bentonville Community Church. I pray our hearts swell with anticipation when we prepare our hearts to meet in the presence of the Holy Spirit. I pray we come to the house of the Lord humble, hungry, and ready to worship our Holy God with every fiber of our being. He is worthy!”

The Rich Young Ruler of the synoptic gospels asked Jesus this question, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” A more modern seeker might pose the questions as, “What do I need to do to get to heaven?” While some in ancient Judaism might inquire, “What do I need to do to be in right standing with God?” Regardless of the generation asking, there has been an age old question humanity has wrestled with when it comes to being in right standing with our Heavenly Father. That question seems to be as old as Adam and Eve and yet each new generation seems to wrestle with this question anew. Listen as we explore this question by looking to see what the Old Testament prophet Micah has to say.

Over the last month, Pastor Mark (my husband…Pastor Mark, the Third) and I have been diligently asking God how he might have us start our time at BCC together. It feels appropriate to start by sharing my heart for God’s Church. I’ve always been a bit of a Jesus freak who just loved being in church. As I have journeyed as a pastor, through the ups and downs of ministry life, that love has continued to grow exponentially. For the last 7 years, I have made it a habit to read through the Bible every year. This practice, while difficult at times, has allowed the themes of God’s heart to jump off the holy pages of his Word in powerful ways. A theme that is hard to miss is God’s heart for togetherness. God’s design for his people is beautiful. It’s also messy and I love it!

Listen as we celebrate Pentecost…the day the promise of Christ was fulfilled…His Holy Spirit! One of the events on that day was the sound of a rushing mighty wind…the wind of His presence given to daily empower our lives!
Contrary to some current understanding, Holy Spirit is not an “It”…He is the moment by moment keeper of our heart, He is our guide, He the power to live as Christ called us to live…“… just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:15-16
There is a present need to rely more fully on the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and my desire is to put up the sail of our heart and let it be filled with His wind to be drawn in His direction, in His power.

Today, however, many question the role of women in leadership in the church. Maybe this is a question you've never explored yourself. Maybe this is an issue you've heard a lot about in the past, and are wondering what the Bible has to say about the role of women in the church. The Samaritan woman in John 4:4-23 reveals this truth about us: that we are blind to our own need until the Anointed one opens our eyes. The narrative of the woman at the well is one of the most well known in the Bible; many of us could easily give a summary of it. On its surface, the story chronicles ethnic prejudice and a woman shunned by her community. But look deeper, and you'll realize it reveals a great deal about Jesus’ character.

Above all, the story, which unfolds in the fourth chapter of John illuminates the fact, that Jesus is a seeking Savior able to meet the deepest needs of our lives. This was not a chance meeting but rather one which Jesus intentionally set.

Christ has been born! Christ has brought glimpses of a new age to come here today! This new age that we read about in the book of Revelation is one to be excited about. In Revelation 21 we read about a new heaven and a new earth that is to come. One where “he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more.” This new age doesn't have to be something we wait for, but Jesus brought it to us today. In the book of Matthew, Jesus tells us what our roles are in this new age. To feed the hungry, give drinks to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, and visit the sick and imprisoned. We are called to ministry to those who have been marginalized in society. This is how we can live in the new age today.

One of the things I love about Christmas is the different nativity scenes. And one of the things about nativity scenes is that they seem so peaceful.

It’s hard to imagine a more peaceful scene than Joseph and Mary with newborn baby Jesus, surrounded by sheep and shepherds under the night sky. We even sing about peace in one of the most popular Christmas carols: “Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright. Round yon virgin, mother and Child, Holy Infant so tender and mild, sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.”

We all desire peace, and yet peace is sadly lacking in our world. People are full of worry and anxiety. Relationships are full of conflict and stress. This world is full of conflict and wars.

But that’s where Jesus comes in. Because Jesus is not only our hope at Christmas, He is also our peace. And it is only in Christ that we will ever truly obtain peace. As someone said: “There will never be agreement at the peace tables of the world or rest in the individual heart until the Prince of Peace reigns supreme in the hearts of everyone!

One of the things we love most about traditions is they mark the rhythms of the time in our life. Someone recently told me they loved Halloween because it kicked off a time of year when there is a chill in the air, people were feeling festive and often there was good cheer and kindness all around. Whether we realize it or not we all operate in certain rhythms: 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 30ish days in a month. We are in a rhythm of what time we we eat, what time we go to work, what get up and what time we go to bed (if you doubt the last bit wait until time “springs forward” in the Spring).

Listen as we point out a rhythm found in the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy and think together about how this tradition might intersect with our lives. Philippi was the Apostle Paul’s favorite church, as the word “joy” occurs more times in Philippians than any other book. Lauren and I have a prayer for our favorite church inspired by Paul’s affinity for Philippi:

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:9-11)

Change is hard. It's difficult for us for a number of reasons, but the main reason humans struggle with change is the ambiguity associated with the future. When routines are disrupted and patterns are changed, the fear of not knowing what is going to happen next can be overwhelming.

In the background of the Moses story is a clear affirmation of God's sovereignty. Everyone thought Pharaoh was in charge, but God raises up Moses to challenge his delusion of sovereignty and to assert God's sovereignty. In the midst of all the things the Moses story is communicating about God, it is a crystal clear declaration that God is in control and that his redemptive purposes for the world cannot be stopped.

We all experience days that are full of joy. But what about not-so-perfect days? Can we still have joy even when things aren’t the way we would prefer them? Can the Christian experience joy even in suffering? These are all questions that Peter is dealing with in 1 Peter 4:12-19. In this passage we discover a different kind of joy, one that is not anchored in our circumstances but in the benevolent care of our Creator.

When Christians suffer they participate with Christ in his sufferings and Peter says this can be a source of true and lasting joy. It also is powerful testimony to a watching world that directs them to Jesus.

Christians live in an interesting tension. We recognize this world is not our home, that we are citizens of a heavenly Kingdom. At the same time, we have a mailing address, a place of business, a school, and lots of people we love who live in this world.

In the book of Revelation, John sees a vision of what God is ultimately doing: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.”

This is the heart of Christian hope: God is redeeming this world and transforming it into a Kingdom of Peace.

In the meantime, Peter reminds the church that they are called to extend a different kind of welcome. This welcome is not dependent on anyone’s qualifications or wealth, but is an open invitation to be a part of what God is doing to redeem the world.

I wish being a Christian meant everything bad in your life suddenly got better. Following Jesus means your sins are forgiven and the shame of your past is taken away! This is good news, but Christians aren’t immune from suffering or persecution. They do, however, have the promise of Christ’s presence in the midst of it. Peter writes this to those who were suffering:

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:9)

Listen as Rev. Greg Gebhart leads us as we lean into the hope we in have in Christ.

“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” (NIV)

If you don’t have a life verse, I don’t think my friend would mind if you made this one your own! It reminds us that while we are in the world and are impacted by all the different things that run counter to God’s kingdom, we are called to live in such a way that points people to Jesus.

When thinking about the call to Christ-likeness that is all throughout Scripture, objections usually revolve around the lofty ideals of holiness being too high a bar for followers of Jesus. People have looked at the example of Jesus and said, “Who actually lives this way?” I hope we would be bold enough and confident enough in the Spirit’s power to say, “What if we did?” Christians committed to Christ-likeness have changed the world, and I believe they still can. Listen as we explore this call in 1 Peter 1:13-2:3. I hope it will inspire you to a different way of living.

In many ways, Christians don’t really fit. We order our lives around a particular set of beliefs. We have an unshakable hope in times of distress that others don’t have. We make decisions about our finances that reflect God’s Kingdom purposes. We value things on our calendar that others ignore. We’re “different” in a good way.

The book of 1 Peter is a call to early believers to lean in to that which makes them distinct from the world. It’s a reminder that this world is not our home, but while we are in it we are called to point others to Jesus through our words and actions.

Some of you are old enough to recognize this quote, "We're on a mission from God." No, it's not from the Bible, but it should be. This quote was made famous by the 1980 film, The Blues Brothers. Who knew that Dan Aykroyd could be so deeply theological!?!

What the movie trivializes the Bible continually exalts as the heart of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus: we truly are on a mission from God! There are things you do every day, routines and habits that mark your waking hours. Some call it “the daily grind,” which doesn’t sound very appealing, but most people find comfort in having days that are predictable and uneventful.

These habits become the default operating system of our lives, and without us recognizing it, they have the potential to determine the direction of our lives and what we can achieve. For three years, Jesus constantly demonstrated to the disciples what selfless love for your neighbor looked like and they missed it. On the night before he went to the cross, they were arguing over who was the greatest. They missed it.

Teachers have a way of helping people understand. Instead of explaining the concept to them, Jesus demonstrated it for them by washing their feet. If it didn’t click into place then, it certainly did when he selflessly gave up his life of the cross.

Washing feet and laying one’s life down for the sake of others is the way of Jesus that we are invited to follow. These aren’t one-time decisions that we make, but a lifestyle we embrace every day.

Jesus did all the “heavy lifting,” and now we, the church, are called to share this good news with the world. The Go Initiative is the chance for you to participate in this mission. Learn more about the three pillars of this initiative: relationship, mission, and glocal.

In the Bible, we read that people came to Jesus with that same attitude. They wanted something and wanted him to give it to them instantly. The ways of God, however, are mysterious and rarely do we see people making demands of God and it ending well. Instead, we are invited to trust and to watch what God does in our lives as we walk in faith with him.

We don’t know a whole lot about Philip, one of Jesus’s first disciples, but the few speaking lines he has in the Bible stand out to me. After Jesus calls him, he immediately issues an invitation to his friend Nathanael, simply asking him to, “Come and see.” Just as Philip’s daily life was an open invitation for the world to “come and see” what he had experienced in Jesus, our lives are to be oriented in the same way. We are called to “relational impact.” Our daily lives proclaim the good news of Jesus in all we think, do, and say.
