Almost a year ago I began doing a talky rap podcast with two of my friends, SergDun of beerandrap.com and Soft Money of spaceagehustle.com.
The format is that we each choose some new rap songs we like and talk about them, but the discussion usually hits some pretty funny tangents as well. I don't generally post those podcasts here but the server we use is acting a little funky, so just this once....
This week on STAY HATIN' we had so much hate that the show ran almost 2 hours. Serg and Soft Money talk about the shittiness of Phoenix, Arizona and rap blogs (oh the irony), Serg reveals the secret to making rap jams about sex and, after Serg and Soft Money call it “really bad” and “hee haw party music”, Matthew attempts to convince the boys that reggae doesn’t suck. (He fails.)
Oh also, Soft Money expresses his love for Adam Sandler and sings a little Boyz II Men. Oh also also, we play some new raps.
These are the songs we played:
You can download a .zip of the songs we played and get links to various things we talked about at the STAY HATIN' website, stayhatin.com.
E-40 is one of the greatest rappers of all time.
This mix is a tribute to him in the tradition of my previous mixes devoted to DJ Quik, R. Kelly, Gang Starr and Too $hort (the latter with DJ Eleven). If you've heard any of them, you know I go all out-- meticulously selecting, sequencing and mixing songs to put together the best possible representation of those artists' music. This mix is no exception.
Yay Game draws 40 songs from all eras of E-40's career, from 1990's "Let's Side" to his current single, "Function". His catalog is so vast and deep that choosing just 40 songs to represent him was incredibly tough, but I've tried to fit in everything from mob slumpers and album sleepers to radio and club hits.
If you enjoy this, go grab E-40's three (!) new albums, Block Brochure Volumes 1-3!

In this episode, I play and talk about some of my favorite songs that got reissued in 2011:
