Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a competitive game in which 1 to 4 players take on the role of ruthless gangs vying for control of the underground in the glittering hellhole that is Night City. Clash with other Gangs in the meat or on the Net, as your enterprising band of toughs seeks to gain dominance over the criminal underworld that rules the streets. Only the boldest will be remembered, and your Street Cred will pave your way to the top.
This week in our special outdoor tropical edition of HotGameMagnet we talk about one of my top favorite games of 2024. Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a gritty futuristic slugfest of underworld crime and street level dominance. Control is fleeting and life is cheep. We loved the theme, art and color of this game. We were also very impressed by the amount of replayability that comes from the many modular elements as well as a very clever mission system.
This is one of those games that so far my main gripe is that we don't have the time to play it more.
It's been a long hiatus since our last episode but we are back and excited to bring you our latest boardgame reviews!
This week we talk about a game that is already a strong contender for my game of the year, Tokyo Highway Rainbow City! This game is based on Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway known for its distinctive metropolitan structure.
Tokyo Highway has a unique design with no board and no game board spaces. Players compete to build roads across each other’s highway and to place their cars. A unique architectural 3-dimensional space will be created on the table following the simple building guidelines.
This fun and clever design is something we've come to expect from Japanese Game maker Itten games. Some of there previous titles include Crash Octopus and the fun brick series. These are all games that are worth checking out, and if you get the chance to grab one you should take it. They are not always easy to get, outside of Japan.
We also have a good talk about two other games we played this week. Blokus and hand to hand wombat. Listen until the end if you would like to know how we felt about these games as well.
Century: Golem Edition is a re-themed version of Century: Spice Road set in the world of Caravania. In Century: Golem Edition, players are caravan leaders who travel the famed golem road to deliver crystals to the far reaches of the world.
We recently had the opertunity to play this popular reimplementation of Century: Spice Road from Plan B games.
We had the chance to play more than a few games at the time but we chose to play Century: Golem more because it's a very fun game. The Mechanics, which are exactly the same as Century: Spice Road, are well designed and elegent. The theme and components are what took the game a step above for us. It's beautifully illustrated and well crafted with colorful "gems" and great inserts for easy set up.
Having played it we love it, but is it worthy of a spot in our collection? Listen to our Century: Golem Edition Review to find out.
When visiting the North of Britannia in 122 AD, the Roman Emperor Hadrian Augustus witnessed the aftermath of war between his armies and the savage Picts. In a show of Roman might, he ordered a wall to be built that would separate the Pict tribes from the rest of England. Grand in its design, the wall stretched 80 Roman miles, from coast to coast.
In the game, Hadrian's Wall from garphill games and Bobby Hill with art by Sam Phillips, it's your job to spend 6 years building and improving a 1-mile section of the impressive megastructure. each year you receive resources which you must spend wisely to make your mile castle prosper and repel the pictish attacks.
Although it is an intimidating game out of the box it is quick to learn and forgiving despite its complexity. If you enjoy games such as Dinosaur Island Roar and Write, or Raiders of Scythia this game might just be the perfect addition to your collection.
This week we talk about and do our Marvel Dice Throne Review. We've been playing this one for a few weeks after I found it on sale in EB Games. I've kind of wanted this one for a while because I've heard good things about Dice Throne, and I like Marvel stuff. Alison was not so keen on the Marvel stuff, but it is fun to compare the mechanics between this and similarly themed Games.
In Marvel Dice Throne, you become one of eight of Marvel's most famous heroes, including Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Loki, Thor, Doctor Strange, and Miles Morales Spider-man!
We actually only played with Scarlet Witch, Loki, Thor, and Miles Morales Spider-man since the other four characters are sold seperately. That bieng said, we have had plenty of fun with just them.
Is Marvel Dice Throne fun? Absolutely. Is it better than the other Marvel themed games that we have played? Listen to our Marvel Dice Throne Review to find out what we thought.
Wow! 2023 is already almost over. The Holidays are on, and the new year is just around the corner. It has been a great year for us at HotGameMagnet. We got to play so many fantastic games. In fact, if i had any complaint it's just that we didn't have enough time to play every game all of the time. I guess that's somewhat unrealistic. Actually, I have another complaint. It was really hard to go through all the games that we played this year and pic only a few favorites. Let alone our top game of 2023!
It took us a while but we managed to narrow down the list to a few absolute dynamite selections. These games were jsut amazing, but we can only pic one game of the year each. I wonder if you can guess which was my favorite.
Listen now to find out!
We have a certain style of game that is what we consider to be perfect. It's not perfect for everyone but it's perfect for us. We like an upper medium weight game with great art, and an interesting theme that takes about 90 minutes to play for two players.
There are a ton of games that fit these criteria but not all of them have the magic that makes a game great. Luckily this week's game, Septima from Mindclash games, is all about magic.
Septima is a competitive, high-interaction strategy game of witchcraft. As the leader of a coven, you strive to overcome your rivals to become the worthy successor of Septima, the High Witch.
Don't be misled. Septima is not a competitive blood bath of dark magic. You are not the villain, but instead you win the game by overcoming the suspicion of the towns folk and improving their quality of life. I wouldn't expect a thank you though. The towns folk have a lot of suspicion to overcome, so you can look forward to evading witch hunters and saving your coven from the dreaded witch trials.
Septima ticks a lot of boxes for us but is it a contender for our game of the year? Listen now to find out.
It's time for Kickstarter Round-up November 2023!
Hello fellow board game addicts. It's time to find out what games are hot and why we think so! After all, we are called Hot game Magnet for a reason. It's not because we like magnets. We do like magnets, but not for podcasting purposes.
OMG! There are so many great games on kickstarter right now. In this episode we talked for 40 minutes and only got to about half of the ones we think are worthy. That being said the four games we do discuss are dynamite, and you should definitely buy all of them. LOL! Listen in as we discuss the pros and cons of each entry because that's what our Kickstarter Round-up November 2023 is all about. We do the hard work so you can get down to the fun of buying all the games we ourselves might not be able to afford. Seriously. They should make a support group for people addicted to boardgames.
We are always on the lookout for boardgames that the kids can enjoy. It's so important to find ways to engage with them and draw them away from wanting to spend all their time watching Youtube or playing video games.
Fuzzlets looks like a fun and easy to learn game that on it's own merits will porbably be a winner with the family. However, where it realy shines is it's unique use of generative AI to allow backers of the project to make high quality custom artwork using there own drawings. I know my kids will love this and I'm exceted to see how well the technology works.
This week I speak with one of the creators of Fuzzlets, Fabrice Nadjari of Mini Studio. He has some really interesting ideas about the future of AI and custom print to order games. He also speaks about the origin of Fuzzlets and Mini Studio, as well has his plans for the future of the company.
Social deduction games are really fun. However, it's hard to find social deduction games that work with low player counts. Many of the most popular require minimum player counts of five or even more. There are some that work well at three players and very few at all that can be played with two. Additionally, it is common to run into troubles with players being knocked out of the game too early and not having fun. All this is to say that we get really excited when we find one that addresses all these issues and is still fun.
Dawn is a social deduction card game of choices. In Dawn, players come together to try to build a village in the hills of ancient northern Europe. Some players will want to cooperate to build a flourishing community, but the temptation will always be present for people to underhandedly seek glory at the expense of everyone around them by building up their own personal treasure.
Dawn works really well at three players because of its unique semi-coop mechanism that allows players to choose during the game to be a betrayer or to work as a team. Sometimes betrayal might seem like the only path to victory, but victory is not guaranteed. In fact, despite temptation, becoming the scoundrel can win the game for everyone but the betrayer.
We had fun with this crunchy game of trust with fantastic artwork and simple rules that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
It's generally frownded upon in civilized society to make your pets fight other peoples pets for entertainment. Their are a few exceptions, like pokemon, or when you have multiple suitors. Another exeption is Kabuto Sumo.
In Kabuto Sumo, you battle for supremacy in the ring with your own pet bettle wrestler. The gameplay of Kabuto Sumo resembles the coin-pusher arcade games in which you strategically drop quarters and anxiously anticipate coins cascading off the platform. This game features a similar experience, with you trying to strategically slide pieces onto the board and push the other players out of the ring. It's an exciting combination of dexterity, strategy, and luck.
One bit of warning. If you are hoping to play a game about saving the forest from fire, then this is not that game at all. Your goal is basically the opposite, and you win by spreading the fire as much as you can to burn up every other player's fire tower and be the last player left alive.
It's actually very fun! LOL!
When I was a kid I used to pretend that I was a mad scientist and I used my science skills to make insain monsters. All for the greater good of Humanity of course. I recently discoverered Campy Creatures, a game about pretty much exactly that. I was imediately attracted to the cool retro-style artwork and the evil science theme. I was worried that it might be to simple but was plesently surprised by a level of engaging but simple game play that I haven't seen since love letter.
Campy Creatures is a game of bluffing, deduction, and set collection for 2-5 players. Players begin each round with the same hand of creatures. Their goal is to capture valuable mortals by outguessing their opponents with the creatures they play. Each player has perfect information at the start, so knowing what a person might do in a particular situation is key.
What's the most fun thing about board games? For me it might be the opportunity to explore stories and possibilities through imagination while being able to engage with others and the game. For others it might be to crush their enemies, see them driven before them, and hear the lamentations of their women. To each their own, I guess.
We recently got to play Unmatched battle of legends vol 2 and I absolutely love the imaginative and playful aspect of being able to match up legendary, mythical, and literary characters in a combat free for all for 2 - 4 players. It's highly asymmetrical but well balanced with simple rules. Plus, I get to find out how spiderman might do against Achillies, or how Sherlock Holmes would fair against Dracula.
Alison likes being able to crush her enemies and see them driven before her. Unfortunately, this game does not come with the lamentations of women.
Sometimes the simplest games are the ones you play the most. Viking See-Saw is a new game from Itten Games and game designer Dr. Reinerkunitia. I'm a big fan of this Japanese boardgame company. They make beautiful small games that are deceptively simple and surprisingly fun. Viking See-Saw is the first game from their new Funbrick series of games.
Expeditions is a new game within the 1920+ universe that was created by artist Jakub Rozalski. The game designer Jamey Stegmaier previously partnered with Jakub to create Scythe, which is a hugely popular game with multiple expansions. It also happens to be in my top 5 all-time favourite games.
Expeditions is clearly something very new. It has the look and feel of Scythe, but the mechanics are substantially different. So much so that there is no way that one could consider expeditions to be another expansion to Scythe.
We absolutely love Scythe, but having played it to death it has been a long while since we have been able to enter into the 1920+ universe of Jakub Rozalski. In expeditions the art is still provocative and engaging. I was instantly drawn to the story. However, what really makes or breaks the game is how well the new mechanics work. Does this new game capture the same feel as Scythe? Is it different enough to be worth playing? Does it live up to the hype of being a true sequel to Scythe, or could it even be a better game?
Hello fellow board game addicts. Are you looking for someone to help enable your cripling addiction? If yes, then you're in luck because this week we talk about all the games I currently want to buy and think that maybe you should buy as well. Listen in as we discuss the pros and cons of each entry and ultimately decide to buy everything. LOL!
I always want games based on IP that I love but most of the time games based on popular shows or TV are pretty terrible. Consequently, I avoid buying games that are officially licened for TV and Movie IP. That being said, there are some exeptions. So far a have encountered a few very good games based on popular IP. Usually these games are from game companies that specialize in high quality board games with a strong focus on well developed game mechanics and high production value. THus, when I saw that CMON had produced a striaght to retail board game for stranger things (one of my favorite netflix shows) I knew that the game would probably be pretty good. After all CMON produced and outstanding game for the Godfather among others. I expected high quality mini's and components, Thematic game play, and unique well developed mechanics. Does Stranger Things -UPSIDE DOWN- live up to my expectations, and also provide a good game experience, or does the alchememy of CMON+Netflix not quite work? You should probably listen to the episode to find out our thoughts.
Zombicide: Gear Up Review & Kickstarter Roundup.
We have a few favourite things in boardgames. We like co-operative games. We like fast gameplay and replayability. We love Zombicide, but we also love compact games with quick set up and breakdown.
When we discovered Zombicide: Gear Up we honestly didn't think it was going to be very good. A Cool Mini or Not game with no miniatures? A Zombicide game with no modular map and senerio book? Flip and Write? How could this possibly work? It's just not Zombicide!
We thought all these things and asked ourselves the questions but I bought it anyway because it was inexpensive and I was curious. I'm Glad we did! Holy cow! I continue to be amazed at how well CMON is able to adapt the Zombicide theme to new mechanics. The game is fast, fun, and absolutely feels like Zombicide.
We talk about Zombicide: Gear Up more in the episode and we also do a very quick round up of some the the games on kickstarter and in retail that we think might be amazing!
There are a lot of board games about buying and selling in a market. It's a very popular drama, and having played more than a few I can tell you it's actually very fun. Especially when you have a really cleaver premise combined with great art and solid mechanics. Ecavation Earth lets you play as an alien archaeologist scowerinng the ruins of humanity on an abandoned earth looking for cool stuff to sell or put in meusemums. It's full of helarious little easter eggs, but more importantly it's a very fun well designed euro.
Sometimes the things you suspect you wont enjoy turn out to be the things you enjoy the most. For example, lots of people think PB&J is gross without even trying it, but their wrong. I never wanted to play Rhino Hero Super Battle because I didn't like the yellow box. How silly was I. This is easily one of the best kids/family games I've played. 5 out of 5! I guess you really can't judge a game by its box. In other words, everybody should at least try PB&J. LOL! Also, we talk a bit about whats currently on kickstarter that looks good or interesting.
Hidden Movement is one of the most thematic mechanics in board gaming. There is just something about sneaking around the game board and springing traps on your opponent that really sucks you into the fantasy world of the game.
Beast by Studio Midhall is a perfect fit for this mechanic. I can't say enough how fun it is to sculk around the shadows of a primordial forest as an immense mythological monster. It is very satisfying to see your opponent struggle to figure out your whereabouts before you strike. Almost as satisfying as when you are playing as a hunter and manage to smite the beast.
Do we really need more Zombicide, Heavy Euros, or Niche game reprints? Yes. Yes we do. It's time again to check out all the games I'm trying to convince myself to back or not to back on kickstarter. The list is ever growing and always incomplete, but more than enough to eat up my paycheck anyway. What would you add to the list?
Feudum by Mark Swanson is one of my all-time favorite games, but after five expansions fans of the game are hungry for something new from its creator.
I had the opportunity to speak with Mark about the future of his company Odd Bird Games and he had some exciting news.
He has been teasing in social media that a new game will be coming out, but in fact he has a total of three brand new games in the works that will be crowdfunding in 2023 and 2024. Mark had a lot to say about these new games, called FIR, FLED, and an as yet unnamed CCG.
If you're a fan a Feudum then this is a must listen episode, but to be honest after listening to this episode you will probably be a fan of everything Odd Bird Games has to offer.
What's better than Travel Games or Traving? Playing Travel Games while Traveling. I really like games that are set in a real-world location, and I kind of want to go all over the world and play games in the real-world city where they are set. There might be some exceptions to this. Anyway, On Tour Paris & New York contains two games about real-world cities for the price of one. It's pretty fun as well. LOL!
Kingdom Death Monster is like no other game we have reviewed. It's easily the biggest, both in physical size and gameplay content. It is very dark. Very very dark, and gory, and violent, and really dark. However, it is at the same time artistically beautiful. Every miniature, every graphic, and illustration, even the choices of color feel part of one powerful artistic vision. It is heavily derivative of Japanese comic books, but at the same time it is completely unique and again every aspect of its narrative is by the uncompromising vision of the game's creator. It is the most expensive game I have come across, but of all the games I own it has the best value. Kingdom Death Monster is an overwhelmingly huge gaming experience, and this review is only our first cursory foray into this expansive and still growing game.
Getting your kids involved in the boardgame hobby is one of the major payoffs for parents who are avid gamers. It's not always so easy though. What if you're into heavy fantasy dungeon crawlers? How do you get your kids into that? There are a lot of kids' games and educational games out there, but let's be honest, most of them are just not fun. Zaberias is relatively new educational game. It's also a fantasy skirmish game. It's also really fun and it's also very accessible to kids. It's pretty educational as well. Okay, so maybe not all education kids' games are drag.
Chateau is a new Roll&Write game coming to kickstarter as a Print&Play. We got the chance to check it out early when Rolling Rhino Games sent us a review copy. It's definitely a lot of fun, and it's interesting how well Roll&Write games work as a Print&Play. All you need is some dice, pencils and a printer. I wonder what other syles and Formats of games are a perfect match. Let us know what combonations you think are ideal.
I don't buy every game I like but I probably buy more than I should. that's okay. I've made my peace. It could be drugs, right? At least it's not drugs. It's now February and I've been up to my old tricks. Hanging around kickstarter pages. Perusing Facebook marketplace. Coveting surprise preorders. LOL. Anyway, I've made up a short list of the games I find most tantalizing, and we discuss the pros and cons of this month's kickstarter round up (KSRU). Let us know if I've convinced you to back a new game, or if I didn't include something that you think is just criminal not to include. This is fun. We do it for the fun. I can stop anytime.
I always wanted to be a skate boarder, but I grew up in the country with a dirt road and also, I didn't like all the falling down so I never really got to live the dream. Pandasaurus games new release Skate Summer, grabbed me from the first, with its nostalgic promise to relive that childhood dream. It has some really interesting and unique mechanics, spot on artwork, and the creator clearly knows what they're talking about when it comes to skating.
It's a promising game from a consistent company. Is it the perfect boardgame adaptation of the skater lifestyle? Do those interesting mechanics make for a solid fun game?
Listen in to find out if Skate Summer lands the trick, or totally bails.
Another Year come and gone. We played a lot of games. Some of them were good, some of them not so good, and some of them were pretty great. We went over every new game that we played this year and came six that we could both agree were or favorites. Find out what they are and find out what we each chose to be our 2022 best game of the year.
Mechanics are supremely important to a great game, but mechanics are not the only thing that makes a game great. Story, theme, and art are clearly very important as well. Namiji, the newest game from FunForge (the creators of Tokaido) has decent low weight mechanics and is a fun game to play. However, where it really shines is in the other three categories. Particularly Theme and Art. the Aesthetic is minimalist and combined with the theme of Zen appreciation the game is a gorgeous and charming experience.
Zombicide is pretty much what got us into modern board gaming, so we are always exited to see a new version, and man do they every have a lot of versions. There is modern, medieval, sci-fi, western, a role and write and more. The latest version that we have had the chance to play is Marvel Zombies Heroes Resistance a minimized retail edition of the huge CMON and Spinmaster adaptation of the Marvel Zombies comic books. So, this version has some excellent fun new mechanics, but more than anything the big change is that it's small. The big question is whether Zombicide can hold up as a fun game when you take away most of the bells and whistles.
What's more fun than playing your favorite boardgame? Maybe nothing, but a close second is drooling over the latest list of upcoming boardgames that might just be your next favorite. It's time again for our kickstarter roundup. Let us know if you agree with our list.
We got to check out the Mayhem Games system from CMON with our kickstarter copies of Looney Tunes and Teen Titans Go from the CMON animation collection.
Despite being called the Mayhem system I have to say the game is a lot more family fun and a lot less destruction and chaos. This could be a good or a bad thing depending on your expectations. For us it was a definite good thing.

So You've Been Eaten has to be one of the funniest premises for a game that we've come across. It also helps that the game has fun mechanics, great art, and is for 2 players. Also, it Plays in about 30 minutes which makes it great for the time poor.
The hardest part about getting kids into board-games is probably dealing with their often very short attention spans. In this world of YouTube, TikToc and instagram influencers, kids don't really have a lot of patience for games with a lot of set up and gameplay. That's why we love it when we find a game that's fun, easy to learn and most importantly Quick to play. this week we look at 2MinuteDinoDeal. A game that, as it says in the title, takes only two minutes to play.

We love a good crunchy game with lots of paths to victory, but you know what, we also love a good simple game of smashing your enemies.
There is a bit more to Catapult Kingdom(Feud) but it definitely falls into the later category with it's action packed castle destroying game play.
I've been trying really hard not to buy too many things on Kickstarter this year. Thanks a lot June! You've kicked me right off the wagon once again. Check out what kickstarter games are currently destroying my savings account. lol!
We love unique concepts combined with great gameplay. We recently got to preview Clash of Galliformes from Todys Design and it really did grab us. the game play is strategic and action packed, but what we really loved was the idea of waging war against each other using giant death dealing pheasants. We're pretty exited to jump on board the kickstarter launching on June 15th.
I've never had much interest in trains but I have to say, Railroad Ink is so well designed and beautifully illustrated I can almost see myself as a train enthusiast. At least I can while I'm playing the game.
Do you love ghost stories and Magic shows? I'm not sure if the metaphysical world is real but I love pretending. I don't really want to know how the rabbit got in the hat because I love feeling the magic. If this is how you feel you will probably want to play "The Mind" by Panadasaurus Games . It's such an interesting little game. I'm not so sure that it taps into anything supernatural, but it sure is fun to pretend.
I can't believe it took us almost a year to get Ankh off the shelf and onto the table. Was it worth the wait? Could this be a contender for HotGameMagnet game of the year, or will it go back on the shelf never to be spoken of again?
Factories are not the funnest thing in the world. I think actually, they have a pretty strong reputation for being not at all fun. However, from the point of view of a child's imagination a factory could be a fantastical, colorful, and mind boggling place of fun and excitement. Not unlike that famous chocolate factory. This week we look at Factory Funner by BoardGameTables.com. A game that really taps into that place of imagination and fun for it's colorful theme. It's also a nice crunchy puzzle game that sets up fast for a quick satisfying game for 1-6 players.
Sometimes the best part of a game is the physical nature of it's mechanics. Potion Explosion is a perfect example. It's at it's core an excellent puzzle game, but what really makes it shine is the way it uses glass marbles to represent the explosive chemical reactions that drive the game play.
Wow! 2022 is off too an exciting start with some awesome looking games up on kickstarter. One in particular looks to overshadow everything else, but hey, don't sell short the underdogs.
I'm not sure how many dinosaur themed games is too many, but I am sure we haven't hit that limit. This week we review God's Love Dinosaurs from Pandasuarus Games. Even though it is from the same company that created Dinosaur Island and Dinosaur World, God's Love Dinosaurs is it's own game with unique theme and mechanics. We really had a lot of fun with this one. Could this be our new favorite dinosaur game?
2021 as a pretty wild year, but through it all we got to play and review some excellent games. This is the end of our third year going at HotGameMagnet and it's time to pick our top five games for the year. let us know if you agree or if we've inspired you to try out some new games. Happy New Year!
Power Slam is a hand management card game designed to bring all the fun and excitement of professional wrestling to your table. If you are a huge wrestling fan, like the games creators, this might just be the perfect game for you.
We haven't done a kickstarter roundup in a while so I'm pretty excited to have a look at a few really cool games currently running funding campaigns. There's some role and writes, there's dice, and even a bit of time travel!
It's time to get into the fish displaying business. Aqua Garden By Uchibacoya is a cute and surprisingly cut throat game about building the most lovely (and profitable) aquarium. Fill your Aquarium with clown fish, sea turtles, and even whale sharks. Enjoy the beautifully crafted fish meeples but make sure that other aquariums don't get all the best displays before you do.
Dinosaur Island is one of our all time favorite games. It's not perfect but it perfectly captures the fun and imagination that dinosaurs inspire. A big part of that fun was the excessive amount of blingy components and available dinos to play with, or so I thought. Dinosaur Island Rawr 'n Write replaces all the meeples, and coins and literal stacks of dinos with not much more than a couple pads of paper and some cards, but oh my gosh is it ever fun! This could be our new favorite game for real!
This week we had the opportunity to speak with Jacek of Gindi games about Goldenstar: The Galactic Tournament. Goldenstar will be launching on October 5th on Gamefound. It was really interesting to talk about what goes into developing such a big game and a bit about all the new options available to creators for funding.
It took us 25 minutes to talk about a game that takes 5 minutes to play. Five Minute Marvel is a super quick game but oh my goodness, it's so fun. I did not expect this game to be such a hit, but it is already one of our top 5 games for the game group.
game preview. This week we got the chance to play a preview of Battle For Goldenstar, an area movement and hand management game, with a pretty cool conflict resolution mechanic. This game has a ton of the stuff I like to have in a good sci-fi space game. It's got space planets, it's got space pirates, but it's only got one Goldenstar. Which is the point. Battle for Goldenstar!
A few notes from the creator
The expansion introduced 4 extra character's, which gives a total of 12 playable characters, not 20.
This week we have a talk with Jason Washburn of Talon Strikes Studios about their new game "Top Pop". It's a fun chat about what makes Talon Strikes Studios unique, and why Top Pop might be the perfect game to add to your collection.
June came and went pretty fast. As have a lot of great looking games on Kickstarter. This week we have a look at a few of those games that are still going and that you may want to back. There's something for everyone. Honestly, I'm tempted to back all five games, but I probably wont. Maybe. I shouldn't. LOL!
I'm a sucker for bright colors and gonzoid themes. Crash Octopus from Itten Games does not disappoint. It's a light-hearted dexterity game that is just challenging enough. Set up is easy and game play has a built-in time limit using a round tracker. Oh man! I just love that giant pink octopus.
This week I got to speak with the designer of one of our all time favorite games. Actually, we talk about this game all the time and use it as a bench mark when discussing other games. If you haven't guessed already the game is Feudum, and the designer is Mark Swanson. I got to find out about how Mark goes about creating a game, and why he decided to do game design. We also got to talk a little about his next game, the much anticipated follow-up to Feudum.
I don't think there are any games that we have played too much, but there are definitely games that we haven't played enough.
Hellboy was one of our favorite games from 2019 but surprisingly we haven't played it at all since the first month we got it.
This week we revisited Hellboy to see what we've been missing out on, and perhaps figure out why we've been missing out.
There is something magical about the boardwalk beach fronts and developments of coastal cities. Santa Monica is one of those iconic locations, and Santa Monica the board game with art by Jeremy Nguyen captures that magic on appearances alone. The game itself is a lovely lower medium weight tableau builder, that is adequately crunchy and plays very well with two players.
Is Zombicide the perfect board game? Well, they made a second edition so maybe it had some room for improvement. Is it now better than ever, or is it not worth the upgrade? What do I do with all my old Zombicide mini's? Today we talk all about Zombicide 2nd Edition and why we think it's the best Zombicide yet!
It's time for another round up of what's cool on kickstarter. This month we found a few big miniature driven games, on which you can spend all of your money (or maybe just a lot of your money). There are also a few very interesting mechanic driven games to talk about. I think perhaps there's something for everyone.
Travis and Holly Hancock launched Facade Games in 2015 with the kickstarter release of their first game, Salem. They never thought it would be anything more than a fun side project. However, it was a huge success and has lead to the creation of their dark cities game series. 6 years and five games later, I talk with Travis about his adventures in game design and what the future holds for Facade games.
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Pete Walsh of Pigeon games. I talk with Pete about his games past present and future, and about how his love of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lead into a career in Boardgame design!
Some games are an absolute must have, but for some reason I keep not having them. today we talk about one of those games that is so good there really is no reason for it not to be in my collection. Yet, for some reason I keep not getting it. Everdell.
What a magnificent haul of new games on kickstarter! I wish I could back all of them but I guess I'll just have to be happy to talk about them... and also back a few. LOL!
Have you ever had a great idea and then doubted yourself to much to try putting it out there? Creating something great can be a lot of work, but the hardest part is probably just taking the first steps. Today we talk to Jeff Pearce who almost on a whim entered a game into a game design contest. A few years later that game has developed into the hit game Silverwood Grove which is currently doing fantastically well on kickstarter.
Some games just have legs! Today we talk about a simple game that we can't seem to stop bringing back to the table. The surprisingly re-playable Love letter!
http://kck.st/3kw2iWD
It's time to round up all our favorite games coming out on kickstarter! This month we talk about cowboy Zombies, warring factions of woodland critters, a monster cafe, aliens invading mars, and a game about racing up a mountain to get to a public toilet! (we're a little partial to that last one. LOL!)
Ah Raiders of Scythia. Who knew that doing math and learning about history could be so much fun? I guess everyone that already played Raiders of the North Sea knew. Are we late to the party, or is Raiders of Scythia the perfect game to jump onto the renegade game studios with? I certainly do like all the eagles and horses and blood lusting ladies with bows, and such lovely art.
This week is a huge episode! We talk about our Game BushPoo! It will be launching on kickstarter on March 1st. Click the link below to be notified on launch!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hotgamemagnet/bush-poo?ref=clipboard-prelaunch
This week we review a game that is completely different from any game we played before. Sonora is a "Flick and Write" game from Pandasaurus games. Is it a dexterity game or a puzzle game or both? is Fun? What's a Flick and Write? Where is the Sonora desert anyway?
In today's episode we talk about Wayfinders by Pandasaurus games. In this game you get a to pilot a seaplane and set up hangars on remote islands. It's a game of strategy and can be quite crunchy and yet is still whimsical and simple. Listen to our full review, and check out the game here https://pandasaurusgames.com/products/wayfinders
is there anything more fun than building a fort with your friends in that golden era between being a kid and being not a kid? Maybe not, but Fort by Leder games comes close
2020 is all wrapped up, and so it time for us to wrap up all of our favorite games from the year and pick our best game of 2020! We played a ton of great games so it wasn't easy, but we narrowed it down to our top five. In this episode we talk about those five games and decide which one is number one!
I Think what I love about euro games is that no matter what the theme is the game can be fun. I have zero interest in trains, but the kids and I can't get enough of ticket to ride: first journey! Why is this game so much fun? because it's really really well designed. easy to learn, simple to play, but with depth of strategy that even a 6 year old can grasp.
Time for our last round up of kickstarter campaigns for the year of 2020! We found a few games that look like they might be winners, but only time will tell.
We keep finding new types of games and mechanics that we haven't played before. Pendulum by Stonemaier games uses a unique version of the timed round mechanic, in which all players must carefully time their actions to benefit from the movements of three differently timed sand timers. What at first looks like a game of frantic play turns out to be a game of carful calculation.
What gives a game staying power? Werewolves of Miller's Hollow is a game that has been around in one form or another for decades, or maybe even longer! It seems like it may be too old to be fun, but like the werewolf on the full moon, it just keeps coming back!
Today I speak with Matt Carlson from Wandersquares: The Underwood Tunnels. Matt is the soul creator, marketer and designer of this cool new family friendly RPG. To be honest I haven't ever played an RPG, but this game is so cute I had to find out more. Matt has generously provided his print and play on the Kickstarter page, so you really have no excuse to not check it out.
The WanderSquares Kickstarter is here
In this episode we speak with Jason Washburn from Talon Strike Studios, about his latest game Shadow Network: a game about spies. We cover everything from game play, to how the game came about and what to expect from Talon Strike in the future.
It's Almost November but that doesn't mean we don't have time to covet all the many games now available to back on kickstarter right now in October!
Everybody knows the best part about being a scout is achieving merit badges. In Camp Pinetop by Talon Strike Studios we find out how much fun that really is, and you can do it at home, or while your camping if you want.
In this week's episode I speak with Juli Bierwirth from Distant Rabbit Games, Mantis Falls. This was their first game and it launched on Kickstarter earlier this year, and made over $180,000! In this interview we discuss the game, and the Kickstarter. Juli is very honest and forthcoming with her information- so I hope you all learn something- even if it's just- 'hey yeah, social deduction games should work for only 2 people!'
Raccoon Tycoon with the Fat Cat expansion created by Glenn Drover and Forbidden Games. Is this our new favourite game about adorable woodland creatures competing ruthlessly for domination? It could very well be.
SIlly Shapes is the gateway game I was looking for to introduce my kids to gaming, as well youth that insist on playing U-no-what. In this episode I interview Benjamin Lannen, the creator behind Silly Shapes, a fun family game which integrates multiple game mechanics to create a mashed up fun party game. We discuss how the game came, all the mechanics and what to expect from his up and coming Kickstarter in October. This game has been thoroughly thought out, play tested and is SUPER fun. If you're interested check out his game at https://www.facebook.com/silly.shapes.
It's time again to round up the best and most interesting games on kickstarter and beyond. We really enjoy doing our kickstarter roundups, because even though we can't always by every game we want it's good fun to learn about them and discuss.
In this week's episode I speak with Brian Fisher from Kickstarter game Boss Babe. This game is different than anything we've ever seen before. It isn't so much a game, it's more like a statement against multi-level marketing companies, and how they have taken a hold of some of our nearest and dearest. It's funny and it's satire and it's not at all heavy. I'm not sure if Brian is a genius or has just tripped too far down a rabbit hole, but this game might be just the gateway game that some of you all need to channel your energy from talking about shampoo to joining our board game table. The branding is slick and the punch line is on, so if you are looking to introduce someone special to a lifestyle of social interaction check this out. And if you're not interested, I suggest you listen anyway, as this is the edgiest show I've done.
In this episode of Hot Game Magnet we interview the guys who made Syndicate, a 4x game where you get to play as a mafia organisation in the year 3105. A very specific year in the future because that's when organised crime challenges "The Sovereign". Greg and Josh tne creators of Syndicate leave nothing out! They explain everything from their creative process, the mechanics of the game, and how to have a super successful Kickstarter despite initial hiccups. If you are interested in backing Syndicate (yes there's still time) this episode is a must!
In this week's episode we talk with Jackson Wood from Tokyo Sidekick about their current Kickstarter. Tokyo Sidekick is a cool game that uses Japanese comics in a cooperative game where you play as a character and a sidekick. The two can compliment each other giving you a unique game every time. The components look super slick and this game is straight out of Japan but nothing like we've ever seen before. Listen as we discuss everything from how it plays to how it fits in the box.
In today's episode we discuss the latest CMON game to arrive at our place: Marvel United. It's a fun cooperative game where you get to be your favourite super hero, fighting against a super villain- or even just a glorified side character. We discuss everything nothing is held back in this review/ gossip session about what is going on with this game. Marvel United is fun and more. We backed the Kickstarter, here is our review.
It's time for a kickstarter roundup! We talk about 4 games that are currently up on kickstarter for funding. There are of course many more but these are the ones we thought looked most interesting.
In this episode of Hot Game Magnet we speak with Haplo Da Biggs creator of the Backyard Cricket Dice Game. This game is unique in its marketing and design and will give you an insight into a uniquely Australian game. In this interview we cover everything from how the game was created to how it is marketed and sold, how to play the game and how you can get your own copy. If you're interested in the game, check it out at https://lildbiggs.com.au/
Soft Poached Hedgehogs is an up and coming card game involving you being a hedgehog Chef trying to add ingredients to bake enough recipes to win the game. Today I talk with the creator, Suzette Conrad who is currently in the early stages of development. It involves all the competitiveness of a great game coupled with cute woodland artwork and slightly ‘questionable humour’. We talk about all the success and struggles Suzette is facing with getting her game to market. Soft Poached Hedgehogs is currently available for PnP. So you too can get this freshly baked treat.
In today's episode I interview Nalin Chuapetcharasopon, founder of Meeple Marketing, and ask her how someone would go about marketing a board game ready for Kickstarter. This is such as loaded subject as there is so much out there and it is difficult to know where to start. Nalin breaks it down for us and shows how simple it really can be to get your board game out there and ready to launch.
Today’s episode is very special because it’s our 50th episode. Also, it is our very first interview. Today we talk with creator and comic Ray Cashman about his up and coming Power Slam card game. The artwork is high action with a cheesy 80’s 90’s pro wrestling feel. The game is easy to pick up and has a unique pin mechanic. When Justin and Alison met first met in Japan we used to watch hours of professional wrestling on tv as it was the only thing on that was in English, so Power Slam card game’s theme really resonates with us. If you are feeling nostalgic too for some ring side action the Kickstarter is launching July 27, 2020.
In this episode of Hot Game Magnet we discuss our new favourite game Black Angel. This game from Pearl Games has been on our shelf since Christmas, but we have only just got it out. Black Angel the board game is a hand management worker placement game. You are playing as an AI on a space ship: the Black Angel. In the far flung future all of humanity is being ferried to our new planet. There are 4 AI's, representing different nations, competing to be the best at ushering said humanity to our new planet. The AI's job is to protect the sleeping remnants of humanity, making sure they arrive safely and protecting them from 3 different alien threats. The AI that does the best job, wakes up their faction first thus making them the ruler of the world. In this episode we discuss the art, the replay-ability, the components and anything else we can think of. This game is super photogenic, super fun and super crunchy. For more info listen to find out what we thought of it.
Three for the price of 1! This week we discuss what's hot on on our game table this past week, what's hot on Kickstarter right now, and HotGameMagnets hot new game Push Poo!
Sometimes its nice to play a game that's all about the endeavour to push the limits of what humanity can achieve in science and exploration. Most importantly, it's nice to do it better than your opponents. Godspeed, by Pandasaurus games; a game that's not so much about achieving greatness on an alien world as it is about doing it first and for the glory of your chosen nation.
It's always been a dream of ours to be locked in the house with all the time in the world to play as many board games as we want. Maybe we should have been careful what we wished for. Maybe we should be grateful that we have so many options to entertain ourselves during a global pandemic. The important thing is that we have lots to talk about in our latest episode.
The woodland creatures are not alright. For us, that okay because waging war between the highly asymmetrical factions of ROOT never gets old. Especially now with the new Underworld and Clockwork expansions that bring two new factions, two new maps and a whole forest of automated enemies to make solo, and two player games a richer more fun experience.
While we are holed up in self isolation, we have been able to play a lot of games. However, this episode is all about games to come. there may be a pandemic but kickstarter is still going strong, so this week we round up a few of the games currently up on kickstarter that look the most promising.
the next chapter in IDW's board game adaptation of IDW's comic book reboot of the massive hit; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
We discuss our old favourite game- Feudum, and their latest expansion Rudders and Ramparts. (Why is it not called Boats and Castles? Who knows.)
Getting expansions for our favorite games means we get to play them more and review them again. Does Blood Rage stay on the top of our list of most favorite games, or do the extra rules cause it to be slightly lowered in our esteem?
Justin always said he would go to hell before he played a game with chibi's. Luckly, Arcadia Quest: Inferno, allows him to do both! We live in a golden time!
Next Move games has released it's latest version of the hit game Azul. As with previous versions, 2 to 4 players use math and strategy to be the tile layer that most pleases Portugal's 16th century king Manuel I. Is a third version of Azul one too many? Perhaps, just like it's name sake, you can never have too many shades of a beautiful color.
Today we talk about our new favourite game, and Justin's top game for 2019- It's Cthulhu: Death May Die. It's the latest offering from CMON (probably not?) and super scary as you would expect from this Lovecraft-ian world. Listen to how we deal with our own insanity trying to beat 2019's most difficult villian- Cthulhu.
Today's episode of Hot Game Magnet is a review of a new game, hot off Kickstarter- the Artemis Project by Grand Gamers Guild. In this fun worker placement game your goal is to mine Europa, a frozen moon of Jupiter. Set in 2348, your job is to get a team together to get energy and minerals in this tough landscape. Score points for expeditions, resources, and workers. Is this our new favourite game? listen to find out.
Tonight we review our new favourite game Mechanica. A strange game where one works on the factory floor of a robotic vacuum cleaner factory, trying to produce the most robots for their AI overlord. I love the copy and I love the theme. But one can't help but think that this is a road map to a future hell.
Anyway, if you've ever wondered what it would be like to have a super menial job with very little job satisfaction or point, except for the occasional fabricated competition, then maybe check out Mechanica?
This episode we review the latest board game from Stonemaier Games: Tapestry. It's a pretty cool, intricate weaving of history from a civilisation of your making. We look at all the things in the game from components, playability, time, art and theme. We're big fans of Jamey Stegmaier and this game does not disappoint.
what's better than camping? How about doing it from the comfort of your dinning room table? Camp Pinetop is a fun and easy to learn new board game for 1-5 players that lets you lead your own troop of scouts across the map and towards victory. Find out if we were good enough to become badger scouts and if we thought this game was good enough to be in our collection.
We discuss the hottest games available to back on KickStarter this month. We look at what Justin is backing and what he is just watching in the shadows. We also discuss what's coming up really soon. Listen as we talk about: Godspeed, Camp Pinetop, Zombicide Second Edition, Village Attacks: Grim Dynasty, and something else.
Don’t be a cog in the machine. Build the machine and use it to steal the Whitehouse. In this weeks review we look at Victorian masterminds by CMON games. Be a villain, kidnap scientists, steal factories and monuments, and use it all to build the ultimate doomsday machine.
there’s a lot to talk about in this medium weight minion controlling race to infamy. Listen know to find out what we really think.
It's that time of the month again already! This week we take a look at what's new and exciting in tabletop gaming. Not just what is currently live on kickstarter but also a few games that are available for preorder.
listen now to see if we found anything you might find exciting as well!
For the first time we discuss the development of our very own game! There have been a lot of ups downs and "ah ha" moments, (not to mention all those "oh sh*t moments).
So this week will be the first in what we hope to be a monthly journal of our progress that will culminate in the launch of our first game (working title: Horsehead falls).
your feedback, comments, and advice are welcome!
Can one ever truely kill enough of the undead? Maybe, but we certainly haven’t found the upper limit for dice chucking zombie mahem. Zombicide Invader is the latest reimagining of CMON’s most popular franchise, in which players get to visit a whole new world and massacre it’s mold infected populace.
New art, a new theme, and some new mechanics all feature heavily, as does the fast paced cooperative slaughter that we have come to expect from the franchise.
See how well Zombicide Invader stacks up compared to the rest of this blockbuster franchise.
This week we talk about Trudvang Legends, Cool Mini or Not's(CMON) latest game that is live on kickstarter, and the roller coaster ride of emotions that backing on kickstarter can inspire.
How does one decide to spend $100 or more on a game that they have never played and wont see for at least a year? What rewards could make this gamble worth while?
This episode is all about giving you an insight into that process and an idea about whether kickstarter is right for you.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were really cool, living in New England in the 1920's, in a town slowly being taken over by ancient monsters? Would you want to be an investigator in said town? Would you want extensive game play and story and encounters to rule your evening?
Does it sound good?
What if i told you, you would also possibly be helpless, distraught and on the path of total despair.
I'm sure someone has managed to beat the Ancient Ones before.
Arkham Horror by Fantasy Flight games is epic, awesome and ticks boxes you didn't even know you wanted in your game requirements.
Listen as we review the art, mechanics and replayability.
If you enjoy our show, leave us a review on iTunes.
Do you like games that have such meticulously crafted mechanics that they are fun regardless of theme? Maybe you prefer a game that has such a well executed theme that it's fun regardless of it's mechanics.
How about both?
Designed by acclaimed board game designer Vital Lacerda, with a theme ripped straight from Reservoir Dogs, Escape Plan, published by Eagle Griffin Games with art by Ian O'Toole, might be just such a combination.
Listen now to find out if we found this to be the perfect game or a highly ambitious miss.
King Manuel I is back again with a whole new palace decorating ambition. Last time it was ceramic tile work but this time it's all about the windows. In AZUL: Stained Glass of Sintra you and up to three other players are leadlighters competing to create the most beautiful stained glass windows in King Manuel I's Palace.
This update to the huge hit AZUL, seems to have all the same great features, but throws in some interesting new mechanics.
Is this AZUL: Stained Glass of Sintra an instant classic, worthy of all the glory of it's predecessor, or just a re-skin that is better left on the shelf?
Find out what we thought and listen now.
What's better, building your own idyllic Greek island village, or crushing your enemies? How about both? In Santorini by Spinmaster games you get to recreate the fantastic and unique beauty of the famous island of Santorini. Make sure that your opponents never feel the warmth of the Gods approval. Does this sound like a fun family game? Find out what we think in this weeks episode.
This week we soar to new heights with one of 2019's most talked about games; Wingspan by Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games. Does it live up to the high flying hype, or should this one go the way of the dodo?

This week we review a very popular and controversial game: Secret Hitler. Well, one of us reviews Secret Hitler. Unfortunately, Justin has the flu this week and can't speak, so this week Alison will do her first solo review. We're very excited to talk about this game and also to experiment with some new formats.
Please enjoy our review of Secret Hitler.

Love Letter is a game we, at Hot Game Magnet, have been enjoying in between the stress which is the adulthood slowly taking over our lives. Today we review this super short card game. An deduction game where we are trying to get our letter into the hands of Princess Arnette who has locked herself in the tower. Of course it's completely abstract with no tower and no actual letter to speak of. So is attempting to get your Love Letter read a worthy pursuit? Join us to find out, as we discuss the worthiness of this game in much detail.
Buy Love Letter direct from Z-Man Games here.
In this episode of Hot Game Magnet we discuss the first ever board game that Alison has purchased- Clans of Caledonia! If you have ever wanted to live in 19th Century Scotland this game is for you.
Choose a Scottish Clan and produce, trade and export goods like whiskey, wool, and mutton.
Similarly, Clans of Caledonia is for you if you like mid-heavy economic games that are not too hard to grasp and age nicely like a single malt.
To hear the full review listen to Episode 19 of Hot Game Magnet. Remember to leave a review if you love it.
This week we review, a game that’s been staying hot since it was created in 2000, Carcassone.
This seemingly simple tile laying game puts 2-4 players in the position of a planner who must construct the grand French city of Carcassone. Score points by finishing roads, cities, and even the odd cathedral. Prevent your opponents from doing the same so you can win.
we also look at the digital edition and talk about the pros and cons of both.
In today's episode of Hot Game Magnet we delve into the world of pirates in: Tortuga 1667. Set in the Caribbean on the isle of Tortuga this is a game of clever mechanics, simple treachery, and thematic blows.
Party games are usually not our jam, but this one ticks all the treasure chests. With amazing components, we love the beautiful simplicity which is Tortuga 1667.
By Facade games, Tortuga 1667 blows it out of the water but we really don't know where your allegiance lies until it's too late.
In this episode:

We are so excited to bring you today's podcast, Hellboy: The Boardgame. This is a long awaited game at our house, as we backed the Kickstarter in 2018.
This episode is a beautiful balance of giving you a detailed review of the game with no spoilers.
We talk about the replay ability, characters, story and artwork.
Investigate our episode and gather the clues so you can decide if you want to take on the big boss yourself.
In today's episode we look at an awesome game Azul, a board game by Michael Kiesling at Plan B Games.
This game is for those people that wish they could tile the Alhambra, but in Portugal for a King, and hate themselves, for dropping tiles on the ground. If it wasn't your fantasy before, I'm sure it is now!
You have to select the tiles which will most hurt your opponent. Rather than what you think will look pretty on the wall of the palace.
This is a lighter game for us, but still showed great strength in components and replay ability.

In this episode we look at Dead of Winter: The Long Night. A stand alone expansion to the Dead of Winter Game by Plaid Hat Games.
If you've ever wondered what problems one might face when the zombie invasion hits, you should explore Dead of Winter. It's relatively easy to die and this game really integrates the story of being in a zombie apocalypse and the tension you might feel.

Rayguns and Rocketships is the board game we review in today's episode of Hot Game Magnet.
Designed by Scott Rogers for IDW Games.
Have you ever wanted to fly a rocket ship through space with your own private faction of aliens, all while you were dressed in pulp fiction artwork? Well if you answered yes, to all parts of that question, Rayguns and Rocketships is the board game for you.
Listen as we discuss all parts of this game, from playability, components and game play.

In today's episode we discuss the fiery hot board game: Dragoon.
It's one of the lighter games that we own and we have had a lot of fun playing it.
(Except Alison can't really win. So she hasn't had 'a lot' of fun!)
Listen to find out more about what we think of the components, game play and whether Justin thinks he should buy more games like this from Lay Waste Games.

Today we are super excited to bring you our review of Zombicide. Zombicide was one of the first board games we really got into and is so influential in our game choice and ability- does that make sense? Like I know how to play games, based on how they compare to Zombicide.
If you don’t know about Zombicide, I’m not sure where you have been hiding. But here is the basic gist of this game- “If you like killing fictional hordes of zombies (and really you would probably be in the minority if you didn’t) you will love Zombicide.”
If you love lots of miniatures covering your board games, you will love Zombicide.
I suspect gamers who don’t love Zombicide are the ones who have played it too much it doesn’t hold as much love for them anymore.
Our scores:
Alison 4/5 Hot Game Magnets
Justin 3/5 Hot Game Magnets
Welcome to Episode 10 of Hot Game Magnet.
Today we review Village Attacks, by Grimlord Games. A game which is a bit like Zombicide, but you are a monster and you are protecting the castle heart.
We played this game extensively to bring you an awesome and well informed review.
As a co-operative game it was great fun to strategize together, in order to protect the evil lair against innocent civilians.
We love this game for so many reasons, but we realise it isn't without fault. Listen to the show for the full review, as we cover game play, components, replay-ability, scenarios and art. We also talk about all the expansions we have, and whether we think they are worthy.
Score:
Alison 3/5 Hot Game Magnets
Justin 3/5 Hot Game Magnet
Welcome to Episode 9 of Hot Game Magnet. Today we discuss our old favourite game: The Others, by Eric Lang for Cool Mini Or Not. This game is awesome and is probably our most played game.
The Other's is supposed to be a one versus many game, but who are we kidding, we usually play all our games by ourselves.
In this episode we talk about the characters, mechanics, replay ability and how to win without corrupting your soul.
Get your dice tower ready, because you are going to need it, in this Sins Versus the Heroes game.

This is the second in a series of Eric Lang games we are reviewing, along with Blood Rage and The Others.
Listen to our take on the best strategy, game play, components and whether we think you should spend your money on it.

In today's massive episode we review the massive board game- Feudum.
This is our longest podcast to dates, as Feudum is probably one of the longest games we have.
Also, we cover all five expansions, as well as the new Kickstarter which is, Rudders and Ramparts.
We love Feudum because it has a bit of everything, with whimsy and conflict and area control.
How many Hot Game Magnets did we give it?
Justin 4.5
Alison 4

In today's episode we discuss one of our favourite board games: Blood Rage! It's first in a series of Eric Lang games that we will be reviewing. Well, because we're a bit obsessed and think he makes pretty awesome games.
Blood Rage is cool on so many levels. It's quick to set up, has a cool theme and isn't too heavy. It can make your blood boil a bit though. It's so frustrating losing at games all the time. Just as well with this game the losing streaks are never permanent.
In this episode we talk about components, game play and replay-ability.

In today's episode we review the hit board game from Leder Games, ROOT.
Now, in Australia, ROOT means something else, but this game is very innocent in it's design and the way it plays.
ROOT, the board game, with it's different factions, like the Eyrie, Cats, Vagabond and Lizards, blows our mind with it's asymmetric design. What does that exactly mean? In the board game ROOT, the characters are not merely a different colour with the same properties, like so many today. The different factions, play completely differently. They have different objectives and score points differently.

Welcome to Episode 2 of Hot Game Magnet podcast.
Today we are talking about the board game Monster Slaughter, by Ankama.
This is a "horror sensation" board game which reverses the old plot of an 80's horror movie. In this game, you get to play as the monster and slaughter poor teenagers who are stuck in a cabin.

Listen to the episode, to check out exactly what we thought of the game, along with our review of how Monster Slaughter is constructed, it’s play-ability and how we think this game is hot.
