Deep Fried Dub and SK Simeon return with Waliwo Abakaaba, a heartfelt warning about funeral phoneys.

Based on SK's own experiences, and sung in his native Lugandan, Waliwo Abakaaba berates those who attend funerals for appearance's sake and who exploit people's grief to enrich themselves, not caring about the destruction or lives they leave behind.

New Zealand’s https://soundcloud.com/deepfrieddubband and https://soundcloud.com/isaac-chambers-music go head to head with more than a little help from the sweet vocals of https://soundcloud.com/dubprincess.

Our story begins 4 years ago, when Isaac and Dub Princess remixed Deep Fried’s tune “Kryptology” in a dub house meets roots vocal fashion. Following an appearance on a Buddha Bar compilation, their remix has now amassed over 2 million streams and over 20 million views.

Earlier this year, Deep Fried decided to return the favour and refried Isaac and Dub Princess’s 'Back to My Roots', adding their own special dubwise flavours to the easy skanking original.

Rootsology features both collaborations as well as bonus dub versions, with the original remix being remastered to 2020 standards by Beau Thomas.

We’re proud to announce the release of the third in our remix series. Refried III turned out to be an all kiwi affair and it was a real privilege to be able to remix some of Aoteoroa’s finest acts, who also happen to be some of our favorite artists.

Most of these remixes happened over a relatively short period of time and we think it’s some of our best work so far.

Three years ago Isaac made a stomping remix of our track ‘Kryptology’ to which he added an awesome vocal from Dub Princess. The track ended up blowing up when it was released on a ‘Buddha Bar’ compilation and is now on over two million streams and over twenty million video views.

So we thought we should return the favor by remixing the track ‘Back to my Roots’ from the Isaac Chambers/Dub Princess album - the original was more of a relaxed live band reggae feel, so we decided to take it into more digital dub territory. We kept the amazing vocal, of course, and the tasty horn parts, but gave it our own dub treatment.

This one will also be released on limited edition 7” vinyl.

We’ve been fans of The Black Seeds for years, so we were stoked to be able to remix one of their tracks. The original had a sort of disco feel to it, which pushed us towards a more house-y style (with our own dub flavour of course).

This one is definitely one for the dance floor. Bust out the mirror ball!

We loved SUBSET'S original track which was a chill dub-techno affair, and we felt that we couldn’t improve on it by remixing it in the same style, so we decided to go in another direction: 8 bit Dub!

Since this had an 80’s kind of feel we couldn’t resist putting in some retro drum machine fills, vocoder vocals and arcade bleeps, some of which we created by doing some homemade circuit bending.

This isn’t our usual style, but it was a lot of fun to make!

We have been itching to remix an International Observer track for years, so when the opportunity arose we jumped on it. It turned out to be one of our favorites as it has a hypnotic groove with deep dub chords.

The original track had a downtempo dub feel in the Observer’s signature style that then breaks into a cyber dancehall section towards the end. We wanted to re-interpret the tune in a contrasting style, so went with a deep dub techno vibe.

We kept the vocals but ended running them through a vocoder to make them sound more robotic and also re-recorded the horn line with our own horn arrangement.

This is our second remix of a Pitch Black track, following on from our 2013 version of their ‘Transient Transmissions’ (apparently the biggest selling/streaming remix of any of their tracks)

For this remix we wanted to do something a bit different, so it starts with a slow digital dub feel then switches up to double-time old school drum and bass for the middle section – we’re still a sucker for those classic old school breaks.

Pitch Black also sent us a killer vocal that they didn’t end up using in their original, but we found a way to add them to our remix.
