A podcast where we create and discuss homebrew content for tabletop roleplaying games, primarily Dungeons and Dragons 5e. Here, we try to expand on the options presented to us in the published material, to offer some guidance for aspiring storytellers trying to figure out how to make their big ideas become reality. Here, we stir the pot and lick the spoon.

And here's an article talking about bathtub gin and why it was (potentially) really bad for you. Turns out James was right about the methyl alcohol making you go blind; what I was thinking of was tri-ortho-cresyl phosphate, which can cause partial paralysis or death.

This is the second part of a two-part game. Please be sure to go back and listen to last week's episode "Recipe for Disaster" to catch the Pre-Production Phase, where we establish characters, world, and plot, or you might be lost when the game starts.

This week was also a first, as it was the first time in over 2 years/100 episodes that we recorded an episode in person! The audio quality was a bit off - we apologize for that - but we're working on improving the setup to clean up our audio.
We also took a moment to address where we stand on the ongoing OGL controversy. In short, we are going to continue making our homebrew content, but we are shifting away from making 5e materials and instead moving towards more system-agnostic work. We are also looking into working in other systems for future games and modules.

This week, Bangarang, Oxley, Mica, and Vaca begin to explore the innards of the tarrasque. They find two members of the Ironfield, both worse for wear, and discover that years of hard living and avoiding the doctor have left the tarrasque's organs in a terrible state.
We want to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Tarrasquemas, and hope you get your Tarrasquemas cake and all the wondrous items you asked for!

This week, we begin our anniversary game! We are joined by special guests Hannah Miller (@Bad8uddhist), Mary Crowell (@DrMaryCCrowell), and Eric Holden (@goblinscorner) as we slog through "The Tarrasque Task of Moreen Trask".
The quiet desert town of Dubufi is rudely awakened when the gnomish archmage Moreen Trask flies in, being chased by a 600-foot-tall, 1200-foot-long living apocalypse engine. She convinces the party that there is an item that can neutralize the beast, but with one caveat: the item was eaten, along with its most recent wielder. After some ingenuity and collateral damage, the party makes an unconventional entrance and must now muck about the beast's innards in search of the artifact Blightspore.

This week, we celebrate episode 100! It's been a long and tiring road, and we are so glad to have shared it with you.
This week, we're joined by some repeat guests for a hangout and Q&A episode: Jack from Of Gods and Gamemasters (@JackGogsbane), Mike from 19 Hits the Dragon (@19HitstheDragon), Rob from Worldbuild With Us (@LetsWorldbuild), and Jon from Tale of the Manticore (@ManticoreTale). It was a grand old time, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
As we mention, we are taking the month of September off, and will be going biweekly when we return in October. This is both to relax some of the stress of putting out weekly episodes and to start creating better and more consistent content outside of the podcast, specifically for our Patreon. Stay tuned for details on what else we are working on.

This week, we welcome Mike Daniel, host of the podcast 19 Hits the Dragon, for a crossover project a long time in the making. Join us as we discuss how to multiclass, some of the benefits of multiclassing, Gestalt characters, and the possibilities of dipping into multiple archetypes within the same class.
Part 2 of this conversation will be on 19 Hits the Dragon on Saturday, April 9th, 2022. You can find the podcast through their Linktree (linktr.ee/19hitsthedragon), or by looking for the episode announcement on Twitter (@19HitstheDragon).
This episode's guest shoutout was for MySoundDelve (Twitter: @MySoundDelve). By pure happenstance, Christian (the developer behind MySoundDelve) is going to be the guest for our April livestream interview on Friday, April 22nd, at 9:00 on our Twitch channel. It's a great app, so be sure to check it out.
If you want a more thorough (and probably more accurate) explanation of how Gestalt characters work, we highly recommend this video from WebDM on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPljzoR8i5g

This week, we recap some of the highlights from this year's Monster Madness 2022 tournament. We talk about who our finalists are, some of the surprising upsets, a few of the crazy tactics that emerged from our bouts, and some of the changes that are being made to our homebrew combatant, Tarrakis the Shale Spider, following their remarkable performance.
A reminder that the final bout will be fought live, on our Twitch stream (https://twitch.tv/undercommontaste), on Thursday, March 31st, at 9:00 PM Eastern. We will release a recap of the fight on the 1st, but the session isn't being recorded for posterity, so if you want to see it, you'll need to be there.

This week, we return to the town of Verdigris, which we created way back in episode 19. Join us as we flesh out the town and its environs a bit more, and take inspiration from the song "The Copper War" by The Cog is Dead (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3mbsY75Zws) to lay out an adventure arc with the political machinations and posturing of two dragons: one green, one copper.
As mentioned in the episode, we are drawing inspiration for the town of Verdigris and the people within from the history of the Appalachian coal mines, specifically the unionization efforts of the miners and the subsequent crackdown by the mining companies. A keystone event for these union struggles was the Battle of Blair Mountain in 1921, which remains the single largest labor uprising in American history. Here's an article about it: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/battle-blair-mountain-largest-labor-uprising-american-history-180978520/

This week, we went live on Twitch! Following the Thanksgiving holiday, we decided to do something with a little less prep, so we had our inaugural Twitch livestream. Join us as we discuss the State of the Podcast (TM) and upcoming projects, don our foil hats for a bit of D&D lore conspiracy, and do a Monster Mashup with just the two of us, which results in something completely Looney.
We also had some technical difficulties at the beginning of our stream, requiring us to re-record the intro. Many thanks to Rob over at Worldbuild With Us (worldbuildwithus.com) for helping us troubleshoot our issues with OBS - he's a friend of the show for certain, and you should totally go check out their podcast!
We have two sponsors for this week's episode - Of Mice and Men and Monsters (@OMAMAMshow) and Tale of the Manticore (@ManticoreTale). I've been enjoying both shows, so you should check them out for something a little bit different.

This week, we dive back into the Heroic Domains of Ysgard to discuss the details of the individual layers of the Plane. It's a long one this week, as we touch on some of the stories from Norse mythology that influence the mechanics of Ysgard, such as why the petitioners revive each day at dawn, or how Odin got his eight-legged rainbow horse, Sleipnir. We also discuss a couple of the things we would change, from the elves of Alfheim to Merratet, the realm of the Egyptian/Mulhorandi goddess Bast.
We will be having our channel's inaugural Twitch stream on Sunday, November 28th, starting at 9:00 PM Eastern, where we will just have a live Q&A, and maybe create some homebrewed stuff. Drop by to say hi, and submit any questions you may have, or homebrew you'd like reviewed, to either our email or Twitter.

This week, we begin our journey into the Heroic Domains of Ysgard, the Plane of neutral-good chaos, where warriors fight, die, and are reborn at dawn in an eternal cycle. Join us as we discuss the home of the Norse pantheon - and the other denizens that come with them - as well as the natural interplanar highway that is Yggdrasil the World Ash, and a pair of gods that seem to have been...misplaced.

This week, we begin our descent into the Windswept Depths of Pandemonium. It was a long recording session (happens when you keep buying old books and incorporating the information), so we divided it into two parts. Merry Tarrasquemas! It's been one full year of podcast episodes, and we're here to celebrate with a one-shot adventure - specifically, Zikran's Zephyrean Tome from Candlekeep Mysteries.
Today's cast has James as the Dungeon Master; Ian as Ereshki, the orc champion fighter; Mary Crowell as Lawbringer Trebin, the hobgoblin war cleric; Mitch Wallace as Gimble Shadowscale, the kobold thief rogue; and C.R. Rowenson as Lady Serissa, the yuan-ti pureblood enchantment wizard.
We want to thank all of you who listen to our podcast for helping us make it to one year. We're just so glad that, though we're talking into the void, there's someone in the void who listens. Here's to another year of interviews, homebrew, and lore!

This week, we invite Reddit creator Elliot (u/MothProphet) on to discuss the topic addressed in the bulk of his Reddit post An Exploration into 5e's Damage Types, in a little under 6000 words. We talk about the differences between devils and demons, why beasts don't like loud noises, and returning to a time when Cold Iron meant something to the fey. Topping it all off, we have the return of the Weird Bug Generator, where the dice help us create an oversized druid grove parasite.

A content warning for this week's episode: the Shadowfell is a gloomy and depressing place. As such, any discussion going in depth in the Shadowfell will inevitably turn to topics that may negatively affect some people, especially those with PTSD or depressive conditions.
