Luke Mathers Speaker, Coach and Author Of Stress Teflon
Luke Mathers is a conference speaker and the author of Stress Teflon. 28 years in business have taught him that stress isn’t going away any time soon. If you want better health, relationships, and success, you need to get good at stress. As one of the original directors of Specsavers in Australia, Luke was part of the biggest retail roll-out in Australia’s history. 100 stores in 100 days. His practice was the biggest in the country and set global records that were previously unheard of. Luke retired for the first time at age 31 after transforming his UK Specsavers practice (increasing turnover by 350% in just three years). Luke returned to Australia to relax and put his feet up. It wasn't long before he realised, he missed something... STRESS! Helping people become Stress Teflon is his mission and, as the book says, “it’s good being you when stress doesn’t stick.”

Nathan Picklum and Greg Young, Co-Owners of Body Science is live with Geoff Coombes, Co-Owner of Tour de Cure. Talking about our 10+ year relationship and the journey that brought them here today.
GEOFF COOMBES 2006 I was out riding with a mate (Gary Bertwistle), and I shared the idea to ride around my own country but to do it for a good cause. Reflecting back, I realised I had been doing more things each year for others (Shave Your Head, Grow Your Mo etc) and the idea of giving back at this time of my life there was a fire waiting to be lit.
My best friend (Samantha Hollier), an event GURU got involved with these ‘2 BLOKES having a chat over a coffee/ride’ and we became three founders of a charity which set about to get good people and business together, to do big bike rides raising money to help cure cancer. Tour de Cure was born!
Fast forward 15 yrs and Tour de Cure has raised over $73M, funded 550 World-Class Cancer Research, support & Prevention Projects and achieved 50 scientific Cancer breakthroughs. Over the years we have refined our Cancer Awareness message for kids to help educate and inspire them to learn about Cancer and how healthy lifestyle choices help reduce their risks. To date, we have shared this message with over 170,000 kids around the country.

Corey is a powerhouse of energy. He has not only faced his toughest battle but he's come through it with flying colours. From his lowest point with drugs & alcohol, gaining 40kgs on the verge of self-destruction he managed to climb out from this dark place into healthier happier days where he lost 40kg of bad choices, in order to perform one amazing feat after another.. including running 24 hours at an Ultra Running event then pulling 1.5 tones for a marathon distance in under 24 hours (and smashes the record). Corey aims to set another world record doing the equivalent of an Ironman distance triathlon and does it all without any previous training and – with a 45kg log strapped to him.

Glenn Compain is a former Auckland NZ frontline policeman and current QPS officer - working largely with troubled youth, and he's seen things that would haunt your nightmares. Violent gangs, rampant drug and alcohol abuse, soul-destroying promiscuity, parents unwilling or unable to tackle the mess their kids are making of their young lives.
At 19 he led a team of voluntary aid workers to Uganda, where they worked with orphans and child soldiers during the civil war. In 2004 he co-founded the Village Community Services trust with ex All Black Michael Jones, which continues to deliver mentoring to over 500 young people at risk in schools across Auckland. A compelling and charismatic speaker, Glenn Compain is a powerful new addition to the HarperCollins social and parenting list and follows in the footsteps of Celia Lashlie and Nigel Latta.
Glenn's experience has taught him that every child is at risk at some stage during their formative years; that there are many influences in their lives that their parents can't hope to control. His message is that it is the parents' job to give their children the skills to make good decisions when times are tough. By sharing his own story and experiences from the frontline Glenn gives concerned parents the tools they need to spot the danger signs for their children themselves. While he doesn't claim to have all the answers, his common-sense approach and experience with troubled youth make his insight and ideas valuable tools to empower parents. A book for parents, teachers, and social workers, this streetwise, straight-talking look at today's world will have everyone talking.

Lance Burdett is back to talk about how the brain stores information. This week he will be discussing his research on why people feel overwhelmed, have a dry mouth most of the day and are tired after midday with an unusual headache that just won't go away or poor sleep and mood swings. It's our subconscious doing these things - but what does it mean?
Lance Burdett Founder & Director at WARN International Ltd.

Whether in sports, work or life in general, ‘turning right’ as a metaphor for exploring unknown territory intuitively resonates with audiences, regardless of their background. Many conversations and broad media attention while Kay was publishing his first book have confirmed that people are seeking a life beyond the daily hamster wheel.
Kay Bretz Fastest-Ever Australian at 24 Hour World Championships I am a champion ultra-marathon runner (fastest-ever Australian at 24 Hour World Championships), corporate leader (ex-McKinsey consultant and senior leader at Woolworths and Coles), entrepreneur, keynote speaker, executive coach and author of Turning Right – Inspire the Magic. First and foremost, I’m an explorer. One day I turned right at my garden gate, just to realise that I’d never done that before. It was an image of how I was leading my life: full of control and not curious what was on offer beyond my self-imposed boundaries. Now, metaphorically speaking, I ‘turn right’ to inspire the magic.

So, what is 'Sober Curious'? Luke Mathers, author of Stress Teflon is in the studio this week to talk about the way we look at alcohol today, habit loops and some interesting facts about how these are affecting us.
Luke retired for the first time at age 31. After transforming his UK Specsavers practice (increasing turnover by 350% in just three years) Luke returned to Australia to relax and put his feet up. It wasn't long before he realised, he missed something... STRESS!
Helping people become Stress Teflon is his mission and, as the book says, “it’s good being you when stress doesn’t stick.”

As Peter Drucker said - “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” That’s not to say the strategy is unimportant – rather that a good company culture is a backbone to organizational success. Don’t confuse company VALUES vs VIRTUES. So, what makes good company culture? What is it not? Niall Wogan and Greg Young - two culture 'legends’ get together to chat about what a great culture looks like and why it matters.
Niall Wogan CEO and Director of VERVE Fitness
Niall ran an international furniture company and quickly doubled its revenue from $20 to $40million after taking over as Managing Director. He then decided to start doing what he would love most; building a new brand and customer-focused company that would help promote health and fitness and be a great place to come to work each day. VERVE Fitness was formed in Europe in 2017 and launched in Australia in 2019.
It has quickly established itself as the leading supplier of gym equipment and operates from its state-of-the-art showroom and HQ in Gold Coast, among the largest in the country for fitness equipment. He has lived in Germany, South Africa, and California, making Australia the fourth continent he has lived on. He loves working out and CrossFit (when he can avoid pushing too hard and getting injured!).

Mental health has become a major concern for athletes who have dedicated their lives to sport. The transition that a professional athlete takes from their full-time sporting career into retirement has received a considerable amount of attention in the sporting industry and something Ben is passionate about. A lifelong process of becoming an athlete requires extensive training and nutrition tracking, continuous coaching and guidance, and being surrounded by a community of like-minded people from a young age. So what happens when their career eventually comes to a close? This week we chat with the legend Ben Alexander, now retired from Rugby Union. He played a record 154 games for the ACT Brumbies, 72 tests for the Wallabies, and scored 25 tries. The father of 3 and parkrunner co-owns the ACT’s “Best Pub” and 6-time “Best Live Sports Venue” The Dock. A Sports Journalism graduate, he currently studies Computing at the ANU and is the Chief Energy Tracker of the energy management app - Alfred.
What is Alfred? Alfred is a personal energy management app that helps you track how much you eat, which is arguably the biggest influence on your energy and how you feel. Tracking how much he ate helped Ben to find balance with food, and get a better understanding of his eating habits beyond “oh, I just eat too much” as he learned he wasn’t eating enough energy on busy days and would eat too much on days he didn’t exercise. In the past tracking your food took time, but Alfred “can do the work for you” and he gets easier to use the more you use him. Simply send him a photo or a short text description of your meal, and he will estimate the amount of energy in it and return the results before your next meal. Alfred then learns what you like to eat and predicts your next meal to save you time. Download Alfred here.

This week we talk about the newest product to enter the Body Science performance range, MYOCYTIN™. Our most requested product return of all time and there are several reasons why so many people remember and demanded this return. In 2003 Independent university research proved that (BSc) MYOCYTIN™ out-performs standard creatine. In only six days athletes ingesting MYOCYTIN™ gained more than twice as much body mass as those consuming regular creatine. Athletes increased upper arm girth by over 200 per cent more than regular creatine users and improved their bench press performance significantly more than users of regular creatine. Body Science Tatiana Marinho talks about the research surrounding MYOCYTIN™ and how it can benefit people from all training backgrounds.

Last week on World Suicide Prevention Day we had the pleasure of podcasting with Clint Adams, a former police officer who studied psychology and later, rehabilitation. Clint's police, injury management, senior HR roles, and working with asylum seekers have made him develop insights into the psychology and social interactions of individuals in trying conditions. He has developed various behavioural and leadership programs to help people deal with various issues from PTSD to bullying and harassment.
Clint's book, Lighting The Blue Flame, was published earlier this year – you can find it here on Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/Lighting-Blue-Flame-Clint-Adams/dp/1528913973
How Body Science is contributing to suicide prevention in Australia?
In September, Body Science will share $1 from every online sale in support of the Black Dog Institutes Mullets For Mental Health.
On behalf of the team at Body Science, Founder and Owner Greg Young will be supporting Mullets For Mental Health by growing his own lush mullet.
The Meaning Behind The Mullet
Suicide is the leading cause of death among Australians aged 15-44, and 60% of Australians reporting symptoms of mental illness don’t seek help. But together we can turn things around by funding mental health research, education, and innovation.
By taking on the mullet challenge, you are raising vital funds for research and education projects. You're also sparking conversations about the things we can do to support each other's mental health during a time of need
