David had a few sons that potentially could take the throne. In this episode, we look at what happened with them.
If you’ve been in church for some time, you’ve probably heard the old saying, “Give God what’s right, not what’s left.” It can seem cliché, but there is still truth in it. If what we give to God doesn’t take much effort of cost, then how much of ourselves have we really given him?
Unintended Consequences. Many things happen as a result of out decisions that never entered our minds at the time of our actions. Unfortunately, David had to learn some hard lessons from some poor decisions he made. Listen in to see what we can learn.

No good deed goes... Well, for David it kind of went both ways when he watched over Nabal's men and sheep. In this episode, we are reminded how we should react when people show us kindness. (Hint: Not like Nabal!)
Even as Saul became increasingly unhinged, David would not raise his hand against him. We should all be wary of attacking God's anointed, even when they are acting rather ungodly!
A friend's a friend forever if the Lord's the Lord of them. That famous lyric was never more true than with Jonathan and David. Listen in to see what we can learn from these two men of the Old Testament.
You knew it was coming, and here it is! David vs. Goliath. What do we do when we are confronted by giants in our lives? As always, God has a plan, and He is there to help!
Everyone is important in the body of Christ. David showed us this when he and his men retrieved their wives and children from the Amelekites. Listen in to hear what happened.

In this episode of the Sunday Synopsis podcast, we start a series of the life of David. Listen in as Samuel overcomes doubt and fear to choose a new king for Israel.
The end has come for Wormwood's patient. It was a glorious end as moved from this life to the next. Of course, that means utter failure for Wormwood, and his uncle Screwtape is not happy about it at all.
Wormwood's patient has proven himself courageous, but not prideful in his actions during this time of war. So, what advice does Screwtape has left? As a last ditch effort, he encourages Wormwood to disrupt the patient's view of "reality." Focus on the horrors of war as real, and anything good as mere emotion.
The Germans are invading the patient's homeland. Now is the time to talk about cowardice. Can wormwood get his patient to act cowardly? Will it lead to despair or repentance?
Wormwood just isn't getting it. He is so excited that the war is coming closer bringing the possibility of death to his patient. However, he is forgetting one thing. If his patient dies as a christian, Wormwood would lose him forever. It would be much better if the patient lives a long life with plenty of opportunity for temptation!
Time for an attack on prayer. Screwtape wants us distracted, and doubting that our prayers even work. What is our defense to that? Listen in to find out!
Unselfishness is a wonderful thing. But, when Screwtape gets ahold of it we end up with unselfish acts with very selfish motives!
Screwtape is still hung up on who the patient hangs out with. If he's going to be a Christian, he needs to attach something to his christianity, and then be in a continual search for something new. Because the same old christianity will not do.
My set of Christians. Sometimes we can be prideful about the particular group of Christians we associate with. That is just what Screwtape is hoping for in his latest letter.
Screwtape has calmed down a bit from the previous letter's blow up. He is back to instructing his nephew on effective means of corrupting the patient's faith.
Screwtape is angry with his nephew. Not only has he allowed his patient to fall in love with a devout christain, but he is also working to get Screwtape booted from his post. There is trouble in the camp!
Ah, victimhood. When we say something has been taken from us that was never really ours to begin with. This is the tactic Screwtape turns to in this chapter of the Screwtape Letters.
Things are still going poorly for Screwtape and Wormwood. Wormwood's patient is living a chaste single life, waiting for the right woman to marry. What will Wormwood do? Listen in for Screwtape's advice.
Screwtape realized he has made a mistake, and is trying to clean it up. In previous letters, he admitted that God really loves his creation. In this letter, Screwtape tries to set the record straight that God really doesn't love us, but has some other motive for His relationship with us.
Love and marriage. Our culture today may have a different view of it that God did when he created it all those years ago. That may be in no small part to the efforts of Screwtape and the like.
In this chapter of The Screwtape Letters, we talk about gluttony. It's a subject we in the US don't like to talk about much, but are certainly guilty of.
Wormwood's patient has been attending the same church since his conversion. This is rather distressing to Screwtape. He would much prefer the man shopping around to find a more 'suitable' church. What is his solution? Listen in to find out!
God wants our minds to be on what we are doing now, and how we are living for eternity. Screwtape would much rather us be focused on the past or the future. Why is that, and what does the Bible have to say about it? Listen in to find out!
Wormwood has not made his way back into his uncle's good graces yet. Infact, thengs seem to be getting worse. The patient has been. . . humble!
Wormwood has blown it! His patient has come to a place of repentance. How did this happen? Is there any hope for Wormwood to get him back on track?
Things are going well for Wormwood. His patient is drifting away from his love of the Enemy. Will the patient be deceived into thinking all is well when all is truly not well?
A joyful heart is good medicine. Screwtape knows that laughter from a bitter heart, however, can be poisonous. In this chapter of the Screwtape Letters, Uncle Screwtape instructs his nephew on the "best" sources of laughter.
"Bad Company corrupts good morals." That's just what Screwtape is hoping in this chapter of The Screwtape Letters!
In the previous chapter of the Screwtape Letters, Screwtape scolds his nephew for prematurely celebrating the trough that his patient is going through. In this chapter, he instructs Wormwood on strategies to take advantage of this wilderness time.
If you are a Christian long enough, you will most likely go through a wilderness experience. You might call it a dry time, spiritually speaking. It is a time when God seems so far away, but He assures us that He will never leave us or forsake us. In this chapter of the Screwtape letters, Wormwood's patient is going through one of these times. But, Screwtape cautions him because it is times like these that the Heavenly Father helps us grow!
Our convictions inform the causes we Christians take up. But, when our causes overtake Christ, we are in trouble. This is exactly the plan that Screwtape encourages Wormwood to enact in chapter 7 of the Screwtape Letters.
As horrific as war is, it is not as desirable a way to lead people to death as simply growing old; in Screwtape's view that is. Listen in to find our why.
Prayer is essential to the Christian life. Screwtape, Wormwood, and thier 'Father Below' want to do everything they can to disrupt and sabotage it. That is the discussion in this episode of Sunday Synopsis.
It's not always easy getting along with the people we live with, and Screwtape knows it. In this episode, we look at suggestions the senior tempter gives his nephew. And of course, we look at verses in the Bible that counter all his recommendations!

If there is one thing that the lock downs and quarrantines of 2020 and 2021 taught us, it's that we need each other! Paul recognized this as he was finishing his letter to the Colossians. In the second part of what Proverbs has to say about Wealth, we look at getting wealth the wrong way, the rich man and the poor man. The main thing to remember, though, is that God is concerned with your heart, not how much money you have!
There are so many verses concerning God's thoughts on wealth. In this episode, we start to look at some of those verses in Proverbs.
This week, we are continuing what God has to say about Work Ethic in the book of Proverbs. This episode, we are focusing on the benefits of having a good work ethic.
Whether in business, or (more importantly) in the church, God wants us to people of a strong work ethic. Provebs lays out some important warnings for being slack in our duties.
In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. That is the springboard verse for this episode of the Sunday Synopsis. It is all about the steps and path we choose to take in life, and where they will ultimately take us.
Finishing up with the three part mini-series in Proverbs about our mouths, we take some time to look at using our mouths for good. When we guard our mouths, we are in a lot better position to walk in God's blessings!
Picking up from last week's episode, we are still looking at what Proverbs has to say about our mouths. In this podcast, we talk about speaking when we shouldn't, getting ourselves to just stop talking, and how our mouths sometimes are just full of trouble.

Episode #97 - Israel was in captivity, but God had not forsaken them. He told them to live there, build houses and start families. He wanted them to grow as a nation, even in a foreign land. Sometimes we find ourselves in hard situations, and even though we are going to be out of that situation anytime soon, God can still bless us and bring increase in our lives!
Episode #96 - The Shunamite woman didn't ask for a son, yet the prophet blessed her to receive one. When that son died, she went back to the source of the blessing to get things made right. When things go wrong with the blessings in our lives, we need to go back to the source and trust Him to make things right!
Episode #95 - When Mephibosheth was left behind in Jerusalem while King David went throughout the kingdom, Ziba took that as an opportunity to deceive David into thinking Miphibosheth was against him. In the end the truth was found out, but it gives us a valuable lesson in how the enemy can use trickery to deceive us if we are not careful.
Episode #94 - King Hiram of Tyre saw the greatness of David, and developed a great love and respect for him. When we see the greatness of God the Father, we will develop a great love for Him and His Son.
Episode #93 - When the army of Assyria was coming against Judah, King Hezekiah wanted to make sure there was nothing there that would help the enemy army. So, he commanded his people to stop up all of the wells. There are things in our lives that help the enemy battle against us. We need to stop those wells up.
Episode #92 - Have you ever been around someone so much that you started to take them for granted, and wanted someone more exciting? That's seems to be what happened when Phillip asked Jesus to see God the Father.
Episode #91 - Moses went up the mountain to talk to God for the people. But, those people got impatient and decided to make a god of their own. We must not fall into the same trap of getting impatient with the promise of God. Wait for the promise, and great things will come!
Episode #90 - Two blind men sitting beside the road cried out to Jesus as He passed by. He heard their cry and healed them. The wayside is not the best place to be, but if we cry out to Jesus, He can help us get back on the path!
Episode #89 - When Paul and the rest of the prisoners on his ship wrecked on the island of Malta, the inhabitants welcomed and took care of them. It is a valuable lesson that we in the church can learn.
Episode #88 - Little known people can do great things for God! Paul's nephew proves that when he overhears a plot to murder the Apostle.
Episode #87 - Admitting that we are weak does not diminish our relationship with Christ. In fact, doing so will most likely strength it! In our weakness He is strong!!
Episode #86 - Jacob was on a journey to find a bride. When he saw her, he was greatly moved. Are we moved by Christ in our lives?
Episode #85 - God has laid waste the walls of sin, and delivered us into a new life. We should never try to rebuild those walls again!!!
Episode #84 - Joshua had five enemy kings captured in a cave, but he also had other things he had to deal with. So, he sealed them up, and waited to deal with them until the right time. Sometimes we have things that need to be done, but other things are more pressing. It's ok not to try to tackle everything at once!
Episode #83 - Transition can be difficult. There are many unknowns. Just as Noah and his family didn't know what life would be like when he stepped out of the ark, we may not know where the changes in our lives are taking us. But, when we put our trust in the Lord, He will help us navigate those changes!
Episode #82 - God told the nation of Israel that if they didn't wipe out all the inhabitants of the Promised Land that they would be a thorn in their sides. Sure enough, that's what happened. There are things in our lives that are a hinderance because we have failed to get rid of them completely. Let today be the day that we turn it ALL over to God!
Episode #81 - We serve the Lord of Peace. Sometimes we are in situations that cause us to be anxious, but God can bring peace to an unstable life.
Episode #80 - Give no place to the devil. Those instructions are vital for living the life that God has called us to. Samson, like many of us, had certain temptations that he yielded to. Yet it's God's desire that we not give in to temptation.
Episode #79 - The Bible tells us that our fight is not with flesh and blood (other people), but against spiritual forces. Sometimes the fight comes to us, and sometimes we take the fight to the enemy. Wherever the fight is, remember that the Christian's spiritual strength comes from the Lord!
Episode #78 - When Moses grew weary during battle, Aaron and Hur came to his aid to hold his arms up. They also gave him a rock to sit on. We too, have a rock that we can rest on. That rock is Jesus Christ.
Episode #77 - When Isaac was faced with famine, God instructed him to stay put. He didn't want Isaac to do as his father had done, and go to Egypt. Isaac obeyed and was blessed abundantly. When we follow God's instructions, blessing is sure to follow.
Episode #76 - Joseph refused to move from the fruitful place even when being attacked by the enemy. The Mighty on of Jacob was his strength. We also must stay in the fruitful place. Where is the fruitful place? Wherever God is.
Episode #75 - Jesus told his disciples that if someone did not receive the message of the gospel, to leave and shake the dust off from their feet. We cannot let rejection of failure cling to us. We must continue in joy knowing that we are about the Father's business!
Episode #74 - When the enemy comes intent on destruction, our first response may be to take a warriors posture. But, Zecharias saw carpenters coming to terrify the powers rising up against Israel and Judah.
Episode #73 - What would you do if you found a great treasure in the middle of a field? Would you do everything you could, sell all that you had just to get that treasure? Jesus told us that that is what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. Are we willing to forsake all for the cause of Christ?
Episode #72 - Zacchaeus had to make some preparations so he could see Jesus. If we want an experience with the Lord, maybe we should make some preparations of our own!
