We are talking with The Coolots about their sophomore project REBIRTH.
The CooLots are intersectionality personified. The Washington, D.C.-based band embodies a sound that the RAW community describes as a “melting pot of different styles and talents [that] come together to create feelings never experienced before.”
The talented individuals that form this eclectic band each carry a style all their own; however, they come together to form a synergetic group that appeals to the eccentric in us all. The CooLots effortlessly move across a spectrum of genres including rock, alternative, indie, soul, and rhythm and blues, just to name a few. Their unbridled musicality is something akin to the sounds of No Doubt, M.I.A. Paramore, Sade, Staind, System of a Down, Jimi Hendrix, and N.E.R.D.
Their head-bopping, hip-rocking, alternative style has given us high-energy and infectious anthems, such as America, N.U.N. and Doors. In addition to playing at prominent D.C. venues including the Howard Theatre and the Rock and Roll Hotel, The CooLots have brought their sound to the Brooklyn Museum, Rhinestone Steel in Pittsburgh, P.A. and various venues in the Northeast, earning them a national fanbase in the process.
The CooLots are not here to fit in. They refuse to be bound by industry standards and societal expectations; rather, they use their platform to inspire personal evolution and growth. They are here to indulge the hip grinders, the lyrically inclined, the head bangers, the soul sisters, the punk kids and the afrofuturists.
After listening to The CooLots, you will imagine yourself unlimited.

In the midst of mass shootings across the nation, repeated acts of police violence against unarmed people of color, sustained rates of sexual violence and rape, with LGBTQ people experiencing disproportionate rates of sexual violence, this can all weigh so heavy on us from the moment we wake up in the morning if we were even able to sleep. Which brings us to the question: How do we cope when “safety” doesn’t seem exist? How do we stay grounded and loving when have anger and fear? What does a path of peace look like in a time of violence and war?

Ben is a health coach, entrepreneur, and dormant actor. His life has been split between living on the West Coast and Midwest - exploring nature, sports and musical theater. During his younger adult years he would strive to find a career that offered opportunities to grow as a leader, communicator and loving human being, as well as a vehicle to create financial and time freedom, through making a deep, lasting impact on others' lives. It wasn't until he discovered a community of mentors coaches in Southern California - combining the most skilled, diverse, service-oriented, successful and kind individuals he had ever met - that he believed he had found exactly what he could and would do for the rest of his life. He never before desired to do anything specifically related to health, nutrition or fitness - it didn't take long to ask this new community how he could get involved and pay it forward. On this new journey of self discovery Ben is living in his purpose.

About Jurni
Jurni Rayne is not your average vocalist/artist. This Dallas, Texas native has a great sound and unique flair. Do not judge a book by its cover because this anomaly of a diva will have you melting over the sultry sounds of her voice and the depth of her lyrics. Jurni Rayne is well versed in guitar, piano and flute; however, it is the voice that pulls everything together.
Jurni Rayne is has a fierce determination and an undefeated spirit. She doesn’t allow the difficulty of being an independent, “starving” artist control her destiny in music. With support from many friends and family, she has consistently been encouraged to keep on striving toward her musical goals. Her hard work and determination has gotten her many opportunities. She was warranted a chance to open for Fantasia Barrino and Monifah and she had her song, "What Happens When," placed in a film titled “The Last Fall.”
While music is important to Jurni Rayne, it is equally important for her to be an OUT lesbian artist. Jurni feels that your race, socioeconomic background, “hood” or sexual preference does not define the person or the talent. Because Jurni Rayne is a feminine identified lesbian, it would be east for her to pretend to be heterosexual or, from the advice of many, just keep silent and let people make whatever assumptions they would like to make. Jurni Rayne takes a visible and vocal stand against “hiding” by intertwining her lyrics and lifestyle without fear or regret. Jurni Rayne uses any opportunity to educate the public and eradicate stereotypes and stigmas, whether that is homosexuality or HIV/AIDS awareness; she stands for justice in all forms.
