Isaiah 63:7-64:12 provides us with revelation of the future when Israel as a nation will offer up a prayer to our Heavenly Father asking for his forgiveness. It is very similar in nature to an earlier prophecy of Isaiah in which he provides us with what will be the national confession of Israel for the rejection of Yeshua as Messiah (Isaiah 53:1-9). A confession that will lead to the nation being saved in a day (Isaiah 66:7-9; Romans 11:26-27).
The confession is being made by the future faithful remnant of Israel. Jewish believers who have come to recognize Yeshua as Messiah (Romans 11:5)

Rabbi Gary Derechinsky and his wife Marilou have been pillars of the Beth Ariel Messianic Congregation in Los Angeles. As a worship leader at Beth Ariel, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication and love they pour into our community. Rabbi Gary’s Bible-based messages, rooted in the Judaic tradition, have touched many lives and can be found on YouTube by searching for Beth Ariel Messianic Congregation Los Angeles.
Recently, Marilou’s multiple sclerosis has become very severe. Rabbi Gary, who has lovingly cared for her at home, can no longer manage her needs alone. The demands of her care have become overwhelming, leaving him unable to prepare his messages or lead Beth Ariel as he always has. Most nights, he gets only a couple hours of sleep, making it impossible to continue serving the congregation as he wishes.
We are raising funds to help move Marilou into an assisted living or healthcare facility, where she can receive the professional care she needs. All donations will go directly toward facility costs and medical care. For transparency, Rabbi Gary will be the only person able to withdraw funds from this campaign. Shavuot is also called the Feast of Weeks and Pentecost. According to Jewish tradition, God gave the law on Shavuot. Thus, Shavuot celebrates the giving of the law and the revelation on Mount Sinai. According to Acts 2:1-4 it was on Shavuot that the Spirit of God was poured out on the believers and the "church" ("called out ones") was created.
The primary passage in the Hebrew Scriptures that addresses Shavuot is Leviticus 23:15-22. In verse 15, the Jewish people are told to "count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering." The question is, "what is meant by the term Sabbath in this passage?"
Since it was on Shavuot that the believers were placed into the "body of Messiah," also known as the "church," or "ekkleisia" (meaning, "called out ones") by means of the baptizing work of the Holy Spirit, then what Luke is describing are the events that led to the birthday of the "church."
The promise of the Spirit then is, among other things, the promise that by means of the Spirit of God, one can be placed in the "Body of Messiah." This means that believers in Messiah and what He has done for them, are connected to Him as well as one another. We are "in" Messiah and thereby members of the church, the "called out ones."

SUKKOT
Sukkot is a seven-day festival that follows five days after Yom Kippur. It was to be observed by “living” in “booths,” or the “sukkah,” which served to remind the Jewish people of the forty years they wandered in the wilderness, when the nation came out of Egypt, in route to the Land of Promise. They dwelt in temporary structures, and the Lord Himself dwelt in the Tabernacle.
Because the “sukkah” was a weak structure, it symbolized the fragility of their own lives, and the loss of Israel’s national aspirations. It also served to remind the nation of their future hope of restoration and glory when Messiah returns and establishes the Messianic Kingdom (Amos 9:11).
According to Leviticus 23:33-43, four plants were to be used in the worship of the Lord on this occasion. First, is the פְּרִי עֵץ הָדָר “fruit of goodly trees,” or the etrog, which is a citrus-type fruit much like an extra-large lemon. Second, is the כַּפֹּת תְּמָרִים “branches of palm-trees,” known as the lulav. Third, is the עֱנַף עֵץ-עָבֹת “boughs of thick trees,” also called the hadass, the branch of a myrtle tree. Fourth, is the עַרְבֵי-נָחַל “willows of the brook,” referring to the aravah, the willow branch.
It ought not surprise us then that on Sukkot, Yeshua, himself, would make certain statements regarding his Messiahship in connection with these two most important ceremonies. During the water pouring ceremony, which symbolized Israel’s prayer for rain and the outpouring of the Spirit of God upon the nation, Yeshua said, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from his innermost being” (John 7:37-38). In connection with the “lighting of the lampstands” ceremony, Yeshua proclaimed on Sukkot, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12).
Prophetically, Sukkot will have its fulfillment during the Messianic kingdom. While the first four festivals were all prophetically fulfilled by the first coming of Messiah, so the latter three festivals will be fulfilled by the second coming of Messiah. Zechariah foretells, “Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem, will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles” (Zechariah 14:16).
SIMCHAT TORAH
Simchat Torah is a Jewish holiday that celebrates and marks the conclusion of the annual cycle of public Torah readings, and the beginning of a new cycle. Simchat Torah is a component of the Biblical Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret ("Eighth Day of Assembly"), which follows immediately after the festival of Sukkot in the month of Tishrei (occurring in September or October on the Gregorian calendar).

On the second anniversary of the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas, Rabbi Gary teaches a lesson he originally learned from Arnold Fruchtenbaum, entitled, “How to Destroy the Jews.” Rabbi Gary begins with a brief history of the Messianic Jewish Movement, and the beginnings of the Chosen People Ministries.
He then explains the meaning of the verse in Genesis 12:2-3 where God tells Abram, “My heart’s desire is to make you into a great nation, to bless you, to make your name great, so that you may be a blessing. My desire is to bless those who bless you, but whoever curses you, I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
Rabbi Gary gives examples throughout history of how this promise, along with the following promises have been, and will eternally be fulfilled.
Malachi 3:6: “For I am ADONAI. I do not change, so you, children of Jacob, are not consumed.”
Jeremiah 31:35-37: Thus says ADONAI, who gives the sun as a light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars as a light by night, who stirs up the sea so its waves roar, ADONAI-Tzva’ot is His name. Only if this fixed order departs from before Me, then also might Israel’s offspring cease from being a nation before Me, for all time. Only if heaven above can be measured and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then also I will cast off the offspring of Israel, for all they have done.” It is a declaration of ADONAI.

Yom Kippur, “The Day of Atonement” is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. It brings to a conclusion a 10 day period of self-examination and reflection. Because Yom Kippur is a day of judgment during these 10 days, individuals seek to make restitution for their misdeeds and repentance of their sins.
Rosh Hashanah begins on the 1st day of the Jewish month of Tishrei, while Yom Kippur occurs on the 10th day of the same month. The ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are called “Yomim Noraim” (“Ten Awesome Days”), or “Aseret Yemei Teshuva” (“Ten Days of Repentance”).
According to Jewish tradition, during these “Ten Days,” God has opened before Him three books. The Book of the Righteous, in which all the names of the righteous are written; on Yom Kippur, all will have their names inscribed in the Book of Life for a good year; The Book of the Wicked, in which all the names of the wicked are written, and on Yom Kippur will be consigned for a bad year; The Book of the Average, in which the names of those not wholly righteous nor wholly wicked are written. During these “Ten Days,” those whose names are written in the Book of the Average have the opportunity to have their names written in the Book of Life on Yom Kippur, provided they perform the necessary “good deeds.” Thus, the common greeting during this season is, “L’Shana Tova Tikatevu,” “May You be Inscribed for a Good Year.”
What the Law of Moses teaches about Yom Kippur is very different. There are three major passages that speak of Yom Kippur: Leviticus 23:26-32, Numbers 29:7-11, and the most important portion of Scripture on Yom Kippur, Leviticus 16:1-34.
Much more could be said about Yom Kippur, but the following is clearly taught:

There aren’t many paths to God. There is only one way, and that way is by a blood atonement. During the period of the Mosaic Law, it was by means of the Yom Kippur sacrifice. Today, it is through the blood of Messiah Yeshua.

Leviticus 17:11, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement because of life.”

There is a need for a mediator between God and the people. Under the Mosaic Law, that mediator was the High Priest. Today, our mediator is Messiah Yeshua.

The offering of sacrifices indicates there is the necessity for a substitute. Today, our substitution atoning sacrifice is provided by Messiah Yeshua. This is precisely what Isaiah the prophet taught in Isaiah chapter 53; “We all like sheep have gone astray, but the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6).

Rosh Hashanah, “The Head of the Year,” is the fifth of the seven holy observances mentioned in Leviticus 23. This name is never used in the Scriptures to refer to this feast, despite the fact that it is the most common name used today. This name is used because the Rabbis believed it was on this day that the creation took place. Thus, it has become known as the beginning of the Jewish civil calendar year.
In the Bible, Rosh Hashanah is called “Yom Teruah,” (“A Day of Blowing”), referring to the blowing of the “shofar” or ram’s horn (Numbers 29:1). It is also called “Zicharon Teruah,” (“a memorial of blowing,” or “a remembrance of blowing”) (Leviticus 23:24).
Rosh Hashanah occurs on the 1st of Tishrei (the seventh month in the Hebrew calendar), whereas Yom Kippur (the next major festival) is observed on the 10th day of Tishrei. The ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are called “Yomim Naraiim” or “Days of Awe.” It is during these ten days that Jewish people are to perform deeds of repentance and restoration in order to be assured that their sins are forgiven on Yom Kippur.
Most notably, Rosh Hashanah is known for the blowing of the ram’s horn. According to the Rabbis, the sounding of the ram’s horn symbolized the final regathering of the Jewish people when Messiah comes, and the dead are resurrected. In Isaiah 27:13 we read:
“And in that day a great trumpet (shofar) will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.”
With this, the B’rit Hadashah (“New Testament”) agrees. Matthew 24:31 states,
“And He will send His angels with a loud trumpet (shofar) call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”
In this verse, Yeshua prophesied four things will happen at His second coming: First, angels will be sent out to regather the Jewish people; Second, this event will be accompanied with the blast of the shofar; Third, the focus is the regathering of the “elect” or “chosen,” by which is meant the Jewish people; Fourth, this regathering is from a worldwide dispersion.

Over the last few months we have been focusing attention on the Spirit of God. We noted that in the Hebrew Scriptures, the Spirit of God is particularly seen in relation to creation, among Israel in the progression of her history, and with respect to Israel during the Messianic Kingdom.
Then we turned our attention to what the New Testament Scriptures teach about the Spirit of God. First, we learned that the Spirit of God is a person. Second, we saw that, while there are angelic and human persons, the Spirit of God is a divine person. Then we looked at two ministries of the Spirit of God, the ministries of conviction, and of bearing witness of Messiah.
In this message, we explore the Spirit of God's ministry of imparting life, eternal life. It is what is meant by being "born again" and "becoming a new creation" (John 3:3, 7; II Corinthians 5:17).
This is also what is meant by regeneration (Titus 3:5). And the Spirit's ministry of regeneration comes to fruition by means of the word of God. Peter writes, "...since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God" (I Peter 1:23).
James similarly states, "Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures" (James 1:18). The word of truth is of course a reference to the sacred Scripture that imparts life.

Last week, we noted that the Scriptures, both the Hebrew and New Testament Scriptures, teach that the Spirit of God is a person. The question is, what kind of a person?
The Scriptures further teach that He is a divine person. By divine, it does not mean "excellent," or "delightful," although He is certainly that. Rather, by divine, it is meant He is deity. As the third person of the triune God, He is God, just as the other members of the triune God, the Father and the Son. This is seen in that He manifests the four essential attributes or characteristics of God: eternity, omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence.
With respect to his eternal existence we read in Hebrews 9:14:
"How much more will the blood of Messiah — who, through the eternal Spirit, offered himself unblemished to God — cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!"
The Spirit of God is also omnipotent, all powerful. He was engaged in the creation of the world, ordering, arranging, and giving life to what otherwise would have remained "void," "formless" and shrouded in darkness (Genesis 1:1-2).
The Spirit of God is also omniscient, all knowing. Paul writes, "...The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men, knows the thoughts of a man, except the man's spirit within him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God" (I Corinthians 2:10-11).
Lastly, the Spirit of God is omnipresent, everywhere. David writes, "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast" (Psalm 139:7-10).
How wonderful is this for believers in Yeshua. He imparts His Spirit to us, to be with us everywhere and anywhere we might be in this life, and for all of eternity. His presence serves to guide and protect us always!

In Jewish thought, the Spirit of God is referred to as "the Spirit of the Lord," "the Spirit of God," and "the Holy Spirit" or "Ruach ha-Kodesh" (רוח הקדש). He is often identified with the Shekinah Glory.
However, in Jewish thought, the Spirit of God is not understood to be a person. Rather, He is conceived of as a created entity brought into existence, often thought of as merely God's active force or abstract manifestations of God's power.
Interestingly, whenever the Spirit of God is made reference to in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament, His work and activities, His responses and actions, are always described in personal attributes.
He possesses "wisdom and understanding, counsel and might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord" (Isaiah 11:2). The Spirit of God possesses emotions. He is one who can be rebelled against (Psalm 106:33), and as a result, be grieved. In addition, the Spirit of God possesses a will. As such, He provides instruction regarding the will of God.
For this and other reasons we will review, the Spirit of God is a person, not a force, a metaphor, or a figure of speech. He is a person, for He manifests the attributes of personhood - namely, intelligence, emotions and will.

TISHA B'AV: A DAY OF FASTING AND MOURNING
This coming Saturday evening, August 2nd, the Jewish people will be observing Tisha B'Av. The name Tisha B'Av means "the Ninth of Av," Av being the fifth month in the Jewish calendar.
It coincides with the months of July and August in the Gregorian calendar and is a day set aside for fasting, mourning, the reading of Scripture and prayer. It commemorates a number of tragedies that befell the Jewish people throughout their history.
The observance of Tisha B'Av is nowhere commanded or instructed in the Scriptures, but reference to its observance by the Jewish people is found in the prophet Zechariah. In chapter 7 we read:
"In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Kislev. The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-Melech, together with their men, to entreat the Lord by asking the priests of the house of the Lord Almighty and the prophets, 'Should I mourn and fast in the fifth month (the month of Av), as I have done for so many years?" (Zechariah 7:1-3; cf. vs.5, 8:19)
The rabbis taught that the Jewish people experienced five tragedies on Tisha B'Av: the expulsion of the Jews from Israel by the Babylonians in 586 BC, the destruction of the Temple by the Babylonians in 586 BC and then by the Romans in 70 AD, the fall of the city of Betar in 135 BC which ended the third Jewish revolt against Rome and the plowing of the city of Jerusalem by the Romans following the crushing of the rebellion.
Despite all the tragedies and anguish the Jewish people have experienced at so many times and in so many places, Tisha B'Av is observed with a sense of hope. On Tisha B'Av the book of Lamentations is read and we are reminded:
"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.' The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord...Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven...I called on your name, O Lord, from the depths of the pit. You heard my plea: Do not close your ears to my cry for relief. You came near when I called you, and you said, 'Do not fear.' O Lord, you took up my case; you redeemed my life." O daughter of Zion, your punishment will end; he will not prolong your exile...You, O Lord, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation...Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may return; renew our days as of old..." (Lamentations 3:22-26; 3:40-41, 55-58; 4:22; 5:19, 21)

We continue our study of the Spirit of God. Last week, we focused attention on the ministry of the Spirit of God among the Jewish people, the nation of Israel. As it is among believers today, the Spirit of God dwelt in the midst of his people Israel.
The question then comes to mind, "How or in what manner did the Spirit of God dwell in Israel's midst?"
In Nehemiah's prayer, after the wall around Jerusalem was completed, and the people were celebrating the Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, in praise to the Lord, he says, "You gave your good Spirit to instruct them..." (Nehemiah 9:20). It would seem that it was by the Spirit that rested upon Moses, that the "good Spirit" instructed the people of Israel.
In addition to instructing the people, the Spirit of God at times filled some with strength, courage and might. Sometimes the Spirit moved upon individuals to equip them with skills of design and craftmanship.
More could be said on this, but all of the working of the Spirit of God presented in the Hebrew Scriptures was for the purpose of pointing us toward Israel's Messiah upon whom the Spirit would reside without measure.
Isaiah writes of Messiah that He is the one upon whom the seven-fold fullness of the Spirit would rest. He states: "And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord" (Isaiah 11:2).
And lastly, in Isaiah 61:1 it is the Spirit of the Lord who empowers Messiah to fulfill His redemption ministry. He states: "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, he has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound."
Whether in the Hebrew Scriptures or in the New Covenant Scriptures, the work of the Spirit of God is to draw attention away from Himself, and unto Messiah. However He manifested himself among Israel in the Hebrew Scriptures, it was for the purpose of providing the Chosen People with a picture of the One they were to look for who would bring to fruition all promises made to them.

In the coming weeks at our services, we are going to focus attention on the Spirit of God, as he is revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures. It is interesting to note that while he is spoken of in both the Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament writings, reference to the Spirit of God is not as pervasive in the Hebrew Scriptures ashhe is in the texts of the New Testament.
For example, the Spirit of God is mentioned in every New Testament book with the exception of the three short personal letters of Philemon, II John, and III John. On the other hand, He is only referred to in less than half of the thirty-nine books that make up the Hebrew Scriptures.
We are first introduced to the Spirit of God in the opening verses of the Bible which records the creation of the universe. There He is called רוּחַ אֱלֹהִים (pronounced ruach elohim) meaning "the Spirit of God."
Depending upon the context, the Hebrew word ruach can be translated as "spirit," "wind" or "breath." Here in Genesis chapter 1, reference is to the third person of the Tri-unity who is described like that of a bird "brooding" on its nest.
The Hebrew term translated as "hovering," or "moving" is מְרַחֶפֶת (pronounced m'rachephet) meaning "to flutter," or "brood." As such, the Spirit of God is pictured as a brooding bird conveying life and providing protection to its young.
In a word, this is "regeneration" - the bringing about of life. In the context of creation, that which was initially formless, void and in darkness comes to life over the course of the six days of creation.
Regeneration is a gift of the Spirit of God in two senses. It is a gift from God as well as a gift of God. This is to say regeneration is a work of God in us by him. Paul explains:
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8).
We do not save ourselves. He saves us. This grand work of salvation does not come from us. It comes to us from God.

Psalm 83 is an intriguing psalm. On the surface it is characterized as an imprecatory psalm in which Asaph calls upon God for vengeance by utterly destroying Israel's enemies. But upon deeper reflection, one notices that the psalm is arranged around the three major promises of the covenant God made with Abraham: an eternal nation, an eternal land, and eternal blessings upon both Israel and the nations.
The psalmist, then, is not merely driven by a desire for vengeance and judgment. Rather, the psalmist's desire is for the promises of the Abrahamic covenant to come to fruition. But because of the nations' hatred for the Lord, and consequently, his people Israel, for those promises to be realized God must first deliver his people from all their enemies and do this in such a way that it leads the nations to repent of their sin and to seek the Lord.
Asaph then closes his prayer on a hopeful note (vs.16-18). Out of a desire for the Lord to fulfill his promise to Israel to provide blessings to them and the nations, he prays Israel's enemies would be humbled before the Lord.

Paul uses the brief phrase, “in Messiah,” in a very technical sense. It is found in the above Thessalonian passage in which the apostle states, "...and the dead in Messiah will rise first."
We explore what it means to be “in Messiah”, who it is, who are in Messiah, and how one comes to be “in Messiah”. Once we answer these questions, then we will know those who will be "caught up to...meet the Lord in the air."

Saturday, April 12, 2025, we held our yearly Messiah in the Passover Seder banquet at the Knollwood Country Club in Granada Hills, CA. We were truly blessed to have 260 attend and experience such a beautiful Passover with everyone who came.
Our time of worship and praise was uplifting, joyous and celebrative. Everyone who came had such a wonderful time reflecting back on Israel's exodus from Egypt, learning of the Jewish traditions and seeing how Yeshua, our Passover Lamb, observed Passover with his disciples, fulfilling many of the Jewish traditions that are still practiced today.
As our Passover seder developed, Rabbi Gary explained how the traditions the Jewish people practice were also observed by Yeshua and used by him to reveal himself as Israel's Messiah.

As we have already noted the Scriptures teach there are two phases or stages in Messiah's return. In the first stage Messiah will come "personally" (John 14:3; I Thessalonians 4:16), will come "for the believers" (John 14:3; I Thessalonians 4:17) and will come to the clouds (I Thessalonians 4:17).
This first stage is referred to as the "rapture" of the believers. The term "rapture" is taken from the Latin translation of the Greek word αρπαζω (pronounced arpazo) meaning "to be caught up," or "snatched up."
In the second stage Messiah will come "publicly" (Matthew 24:27; Revelation 1:7), he will come "with the believers" (Zechariah 14:5; Revelation 19:14) and will come to the earth (Zechariah 14:4; Acts 1:11). This second stage is Messiah's return to the earth to establish his kingdom and fulfill his promises to Israel.
We note three things Yeshua teaches about his return at the rapture of the believers. He answers the questions regarding the time of the rapture, if there will be any signs of the rapture and what will happen at the rapture. Then he concludes by providing a final directive in light of the rapture.

Rabbi Gary continues to consider the promise of Messiah's coming again. Acts 1:9-11 records the ascension of Messiah into the heavens. As Luke records the event, he focuses attention upon what the disciples saw. In verse 9 we read the phrases, "while they were looking," and "a cloud (the Shekinah glory) took Him up away from their sight."
Then in verse 10 we find the phrase, "while they were staring into the sky," followed by the word "suddenly" which means "something to pay close attention to." And then "two men dressed in white," no doubt angels, ask the disciples a rhetorical question: "Why do you stand looking straight into the sky?" They go on to say that "this Yeshua" will return "in this way in which manner you saw him going into heaven" (vs.11).
With the emphasis on what the disciples saw, coupled with the phrase, "in this way in which manner" which means "in the very same way," there can be no doubt that what is meant is nothing short of a visible and bodily return of Messiah. Not only are we to expect that Messiah will return visibly and bodily, but his return will also be personal.
The Lord's coming will also be in two stages or phases.
The first is his coming to the clouds when the believers "in Messiah" will be "caught up" to "meet the Lord in the air" (I Thessalonians 4:17). In essence this is his coming for his own. This coming of the Lord is popularly referred to as the "rapture" of the believers. The word "rapture" derived from the Latin word for the Greek "to be caught up."
The second stage or phase of Messiah's coming is his coming to the earth to establish his kingdom, fulfill his promises to Israel and reign over the nations of the earth.
Our Messiah is coming again and he's coming soon. Are you ready for him when he comes? If not, you can be. Simply acknowledge your need for him. Your need for the forgiveness of your sin. And receive his atoning sacrifice for your sin, accepting him as Messiah and Savior.

Alan Radecki leads our celebration of Purim. The worship will lift our hearts before the Lord. We have a special worship-in-dance presentation, we read through portions of the book of Esther in a special “Reader’s Theater” format, and use our "groggers."
One of the peculiarities of the book of Esther is that there is no explicit mention of the name of God, nor of God himself. While at the outset this might strike us as odd, upon further reflection it serves to reinforce one of the book's major points, the veracity or trustworthiness of God and his word.
The omission of God's name and reference to God himself in the book of Esther underscores what God had foretold Moses would come upon His people: He would hide his presence from them as judgment for their sin.
The events of Purim reveal that while Israel may forget their God, God will not forget Israel. In the book of Esther, he acts behind the scenes unseen through his providence and sovereignty to demonstrate his love for and faithfulness to his Chosen People.

When first venturing into the study of the return of Messiah, one can be easily confused by the seemingly contradictory statements regarding Yeshua's second coming.
There are statements that speak of Messiah coming for his own, as well as his coming visibly for the whole world to see.
There are verses that speak of Messiah coming to judge the works of believers as well as those that refer to him coming to judge humanity in general.
There are passages that tell us that believers will be "caught up" into the clouds "to meet the Lord in the air" (I Thessalonians 4:17), a marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9), a judgment upon the "beast" and false prophet (Revelation 19:20), a binding and ultimate judgment upon Satan (Revelation 20:1-2, 10), the establishment of the Messianic Kingdom (Revelation 20:4) and a final "white throne" judgment (Revelation 20:11-12).
How are all these statements to be understood? How are they to be reconciled with one another? In what order are they to occur? These are the questions we will explore at our Saturday services and find answers to as we study together what Scripture says about the return of Messiah Yeshua.

Teaching through the book of Zechariah at our Saturday Shabbat services has been an amazing experience for me. I've learned so much and our congregations were so excited to take a "deep dive" into the promise of our Messiah's return, the restoration of Israel and the establishment of the Messianic Kingdom.
Over the next few weeks at our services I will be speaking on the return or second coming of Yeshua our Messiah. Many suppose that the promise of the return of Yeshua is of secondary concern; yet, interestingly, it is prominent in the Scriptures.
It is said that there are some 300 prophecies of the first coming of Messiah in the Hebrew Scriptures, and nearly three times as many prophecies of Yeshua's second coming. Sometimes these second coming prophecies are inseparably connected to first coming prophecies, but not always.
The Lord is coming and He's coming soon. If we need to repent and turn to Him we should, because He's coming soon. If we need to love Him (or perhaps love Him more) we should, because He's coming soon. Are you ready for His coming?

As the prophet Zechariah brings his prophecy to a close, he focuses attention on the restoration and glory of Jerusalem. Primarily, the prophet makes known that, when the Messianic Kingdom dawns, the area around Jerusalem will be remade. Physical changes will take place in the Land of Israel.

In the closing chapter of his book, Zechariah writes of the wonderful promise of the return of Yeshua the Messiah. He states, "...his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives which is before Jerusalem on the east..." (Zechariah 14:4).
If "his feet" are to stand on the Mount of Olives then he must appear in an incarnate state. To be sure it will be his resurrected and glorified incarnate self, but it will be his incarnate self.
One day soon, Yeshua's feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives once again. When they do, they will be the feet of the Jewish Messiah who has come to rule and to reign.

Zechariah chapter 14 brings to a conclusion the final prophetic message concerning Jerusalem, the Jewish people and the nations as the prophet's book comes to a close.
Beginning with 13:6 through the end of Zechariah's book, the prophet provides us with a summary of end-time events:
First, he draws our attention to the rejection of Messiah which will result in his death (13:7a). Ultimately, Messiah's death is orchestrated by God Himself and is for the purpose of providing Israel with the atonement for sin (12:10; 13:1).
Second, the nation of Israel will be dispersed (13:7b). This passage is first applied to the scattering of Yeshua's disciples in anticipation of the dispersion of the entire nation (Matthew 26:31; 23:37-39).
Third, the prophet looks into the distant future from his day and mentions a period referred to as "the time of Jacob's trouble" (13:8-9; Jeremiah 30:7). This is the tribulation period that is spoken of in great detail in the book of Revelation.
Fourth, the attempt by the false messiah to destroy the Jewish people will come to a head in the battle for Jerusalem (14:1-2). The prophet describes the devastation of the city and the near annihilation of God's people Israel.

Zechariah 13:7 states:
"Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me."
God the Father struck his own Shepherd, Yeshua the Messiah, to provide Israel with an atonement for sin. By faith in him, his atoning sacrifice can both forgive and cleanse us, while saving us from the penalty and power of sin.

We are continuing our study through the book of Zechariah. We are focusing attention on chapter 11, in which Zechariah is directed to "Shepherd the flock marked for slaughter" (vs.4)
Zechariah is called upon to play the role of Israel's True Shepherd, or True King. However, rather than being accepted and embraced by the people for whom he came - he is, instead, despised and rejected. The consequence for Israel's rejection of their king is a severity of judgment the likes of which had not been seen before in Israel.
Because the True Shepherd is rejected by His own people, the Gentile nations will oppress them, their own leaders will abandon them (vs.5), and the Lord himself will no longer have pity on them to rescue them (vs.6).
Zechariah's prophetic message comes to a conclusion with a final role-play. He is to take up the part of a false or wicked shepherd (vs.15-17). That is, a ruler who will not "care for the lost," nor "seek the young," nor "heal the injured," nor "feed the healthy" (vs.16). Rather, this wicked shepherd will harm and devastate the people of Israel.
Three lessons stand out from this passage of Scripture. First, though our God is "patient not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (II Peter 3:9), there will come a time when His patience will end and judgment will fall.
Second, though Israel as a nation has rejected Yeshua, there are those among the nation, Messianic Jews who by God's grace have come to recognize him as their Messiah and Lord. They are those of the "flock who were watching me knew it was the word of the Lord" (Zechariah 11:11).
Lastly, in the words of Paul, "God has not rejected his people whom he has foreknown" (Romans 11:2). Because God has not rejected his people Israel, there are Jewish people who if they are presented with the messianic claims of Yeshua, will place they faith and trust in him. This should encourage all of us to tell Jewish people and all others of God's marvelous love and grace provided in Him.

Zechariah 9:11-10:12 speaks of the extraordinary blessings promised to Israel.
- Preservation. Despite her worldwide dispersion (9:11-13), Israel would be preserved as the people of God.
- Protection. Despite the attempts by the nations to destroy Israel, the Lord will protect her (9:14-17).
- Provision. Whatever Israel's needs, the Lord will provide for her(10:1).
- Pastoral Care. Though Israel had followed after false gods and gave heed to false prophets, God will purge them from her midst and provide a Good Shepherd who will care for Israel's every need (10:2-5).
- Restoration. Though Israel had been scattered to the ends of the earth, the Lord will regather and restore her (10:6-12).

We celebrate Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles. This is the most joyous of the Jewish people's festivals for it celebrates the dwelling presence of God in the midst of his people Israel.
Sukkot looks back as it looks forward. It looks back to God's dwelling presence in the Tabernacle and by means of the Shekinah Glory, the cloud by day and pillar of fire by night throughout the 40-year wilderness wandering.
And, it looks forward to when Messiah will return and set up his Messianic Kingdom on earth. During that time, in commemoration of the reign of Messiah, Sukkot will be observed and celebrated - not only by the Jewish people, but by all the nations of the world (Zechariah 14:16-19).
We come together to worship our Lord, learn from His Word, observe the traditions in the Sukkah that is set up, be ministered to by a specially prepared messianic dance presentation by our dance team, and then fellowship together by breaking bread at our "nosh" provided by our hospitality team.

This was a wonderful Rosh Hashanah service as we focused attention on our God as King and Messiah Yeshua as Savior and Redeemer. We also welcomed a special guest, Louis Lapides, the founder of Beth Ariel. The High Holy Day season is a season when the Jewish people are to focus on repentance, redemption and atonement.
Rabbi Gary teaches from Genesis 22, the story of Abraham and Isaac. This story was just one of many examples of how one demonstrates one’s faith in the Lord.

In this message, I continue to teach from the work of the prophet Zechariah at chapter 5 where the prophet has a vision of a flying scroll (5:1-4) and a woman in the measuring basket (5:5-11). The messages contained in these visions are good ones to consider during this season.
The vision of the flying scroll (vs. 1-4) which is quite large, 30 feet by 15 feet represents the Torah, the Mosaic Law. Like the two tablets of stone upon which were written the 10 commandments on both sides (Exodus 32:15), so this flying scroll was written on both sides.
This flying scroll is meant to remind the people of the promised judgment in the Law for disobedience (Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28). Zechariah states this promised judgment is "going out over the whole land," meaning the land of Israel.
The second part of the vision, the vision of the woman in the measuring basket (Zechariah 5:5-11) reveals how God will ultimately punish the sin identified in the previous vision.
The woman in the basket is "wickedness" (vs.7) representing the iniquity of the people throughout the land. Two angels described as "two women with the wind in their wings" (vs.9) lift up the measuring basket with the women in it and they bring it to Babylon "to build a house for it" (vs.11).
This vision looks to the future when Israel's wickedness will be sent away to its ultimate dwelling place in Babylon, the center of all evil. The phrase, "in its own place" (vs.11) refers to the promise of a permanent resolution to Israel's sin.
But one need not wait until the time when Messiah Yeshua comes again. Even now we can experience the atoning grace of our Messiah by placing our faith and trust in Him. This what the High Holy Days are all about.
For one to genuinely experience a day of atonement, they must come to Messiah Yeshua so as to have the blood of His atoning sacrifice applied to his life. "For there is no other name under heaven given among people by which it is necessary to receive life" (Acts 4:12).
May this Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur be a day of atonement and life for you and for the "lost sheep of the house of Israel."

In Zechariah chapter 3, we read of the vision the prophet had of Joshua the High Priest standing before the Angel of the Lord while being accused by Satan. In this same vision Zechariah is told of "my servant, the Branch" (vs. 8), a reference to Israel's Messiah.
In the last message, I spoke on the significance of the image of the Branch in the Hebrew Scriptures. As critically important as the image of the Branch is, we should not minimize the picture of salvation that is presented by the clean garments that Joshua is clothed in.
Salvation is a gift of God. It cannot be achieved by our own merit. Our sinfulness is too pervasive for us to do anything substantial about it. If one is to be saved, it is by God's doing and not by us. He must remove our sin and then clothe us in his righteousness.

Rabbi Gary continues the study through the book of Zechariah. He presents a chart, “The Structure of Zechariah” (link below), which outlines the sections of the book. The book is separated into two halves, indicated by two panels. The first panel contains the six visions of Zechariah, which represent a call for Israel’s repentance and redemption. The second panel contains prophecies of the coming Messiah as Priest and King and represents a call to righteousness and the restoration of Israel.

Rabbi Gary is focusing attention on the prophet's vision of the Branch of the Lord (Zechariah 3:1-10). The key phrase is the promise, "I will bring forth my servant the Branch" (vs.8).
The Hebrew word translated "Branch" is צֶמַח (pronounced tzamach) meaning "sprout," "growth," or "branch" and is found twelve times in the Hebrew Scriptures and in addition is used five times symbolic of Messiah.
The foundation passage upon which the image of Messiah as the Branch is developed is II Samuel 23:5. In verse 1, David is making the claim that he is a man who was "raised up" by God to provide prophetic revelation "concerning the Messiah of the God of Jacob, the Delightful One of the songs of Israel." Interestingly, this translation is similar to the alternative translation provided in the margin of the American Standard Version of 1901 which reads, "pleasant in the Psalms of Israel."
Zechariah, (in the portion of Scripture we address at this service), pictures the Branch as a Servant, (3:1-10). By referring to the Branch as a Servant the prophet is combining or linking two messianic titles (Isaiah 42:1; 49:6; 50:10; 52:13).

Rabbi Gary continues the study through the book of Zechariah. In Zech. 1:7-17, the prophet Zechariah, whose name means “God Remembers”, has the first of 6 visions that display what God is doing among the nations, and among Israel. These visions occur towards the end of the Babylonian captivity, which is also the beginning of the “Times of the Gentiles”.
The passage refers to the “Angel of the Lord”, and describes the Rider on the Red Horse. This foundational prophecy promises God’s return to Israel.

Rabbi Gary begins a study through the book of Zechariah. This is the most Messianic book of all the writings of the Hebrew Scriptures. For this reason, the theme of the book of Zechariah is the comfort and glory of Israel. It focuses attention on the restoration of Israel and the redemption of the Jewish people and the world, through the messianic King, the Messiah of Israel.
In the opening verses of Zechariah 1:1-6, we learn that: 1. God judges sin (vs.2); 2. God desires repentance (vs.3); 3. Past judgments are a warning to repent (vs.4-5); 4. God's Word is trustworthy and sure (vs.6).

The final messianic prophecy of the resurrection of Messiah is found in the fourth Servant Song of the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 52:13-53:12; see also 42:1-4; 49:1-7; 50:1-11).
The prophecy of Isaiah is divided into 5 stanzas of 3 verses each (52:13-15; 53:1-3; 53:4-6; 53:7-9; 53:10-12). In the first and last stanzas God is speaking of the exaltation of the Servant. In the three stanzas between the first and last, the nation of Israel is speaking, confessing her sin of rejecting Messiah when he came precisely because they did not recognize that, in his incarnate state they failed to see him as he truly is, the exalted Servant of the Lord.

Christians all over the world celebrate the resurrection of the Jewish Messiah. In Jewish tradition the resurrection is pivotal. Though it is understood in a corporate rather than individual sense, it nevertheless looks forward to the fulfillment of all the promises that God had made to Israel.
The resurrection of Yeshua is significant because it proved that He was the Son of God (Romans 1:4), and confirmed that all he said and taught was true (Matthew 28:6). In addition, it served as the declaration of the Father to Israel that Yeshua met or fulfilled all the requirements of the Mosaic Law (Philippians 2:8-9).

What does Messiah's parable of the fig tree refer to? Some suggest it is a symbol for Israel, and interpret Yeshua's words to mean that when Israel became a State then Messiah would return within the generation (Matthew 24: 32-35).
Rather we should understand the fig tree as simply an illustration. You will note that in Luke's account, Yeshua did not merely say, "learn a lesson from the fig tree" as in Matthew's account. Luke records Yeshua saying, "Look at the fig and all the trees..." Yeshua was not just focusing attention on the fig tree. If the fig tree symbolizes Israel, what do "all the trees" symbolize?"
Yeshua is simply using the fig tree as an object lesson. When, in Israel, the fig tree blossoms, one knows summer is near. Similarly, when the signs that Messiah had given fully emerge, then we will know he is coming to establish his kingdom very soon. Matthew records Messiah saying, "He is near, at the gate." Luke states, "The kingdom of God is near."
The Messiah went on to provide further assurance that what he said will most certainly come to fruition. He said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."
Following this Messiah then taught on the "rapture" of the body of believers (I Thessalonians 4:13-18) in Matthew 24:36-41.

As Messiah begins to conclude his teaching on the last days he addresses the disciples question, "What will be the sign of your coming?" (Matthew 24:3). Messiah mentions 5 things will occur.
First, there will be a complete blackout of the heavens (Matthew 24:29). The sun, moon, stars, and heavenly bodies will not shine their light.
Second, this heavenly phenomena along with the roaring and churning of the seas will effect all of humanity immensely. Luke tells us the inhabitants of the earth will experience great stress, anxiety, perplexity, and confusion. The terror will be so gripping stout hearted men will cower in great fear and agitation (Luke 21:25-26).
Third, the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. The sign is the Shekinah glory. Messiah does say he will come on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory (Matthew 24:30). The glory is the Shekinah, the glory of the heavenly Father (Matthew 16:27).
Fourth, the twelve tribes of Israel, that is the Jewish people will mourn (Matthew 24:30). They will mourn over the national rejection of Yeshua as Messiah. They will mourn (Zechariah 12:10) and God in his mercy and grace will forgive them of their sin and cleanse them of all unrighteousness (Zechariah 13:1).
Fifth, Messiah with the sound of the shofar will send out his angels to the four corners of the earth to regather his people Israel back to their own Land (Matthew 24:31; Isaiah 27:12-13).

Beginning from Zechariah 13:7 the prophet provides the reader with 7 stages leading to the restoration of Israel and the Messianic Kingdom. The first stage is the death of Messiah (13:7). It is the Lord who according to his plan and purpose brings about the death of Messiah. He commands the "sword" to strike so as to kill. Previously Zechariah prophesied of a time when Israel would look upon "me" whom they have pierced (12:10). The One Isaiah wrote of whom the Lord "willed to crush and suffer" (Isaiah 53:10) for the sins of his people Israel.
In addition the shepherd who is struck is referred to as "my shepherd and "the man who is close to me" (13:7). This Hebrew phrase indicates the shepherd is not merely "close" in the sense of proximity. The meaning is "to be identified with," "just like," "equal to." Zechariah is alluding to the mysterious complex nature of our God. He is one (Deuteronomy 6:4) and yet at the same time plural. Zechariah's usage of this term is consistent with the further revelation that while God is one he mysteriously exists as three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The second stage is the dispersion of the Jewish people (13:7). The "sheep" who are scattered refers to the Jewish people. The phrase translated "I will turn my hand against" literally states, "I will turn my hand toward." The meaning could be "against," but also could be understood "to restore." Both are true. The dispersion of the Jewish people is a judgment upon Israel for the rejection of Messiah when he came. But it is also true that the Jewish people are the Chosen People whom the Lord loves very deeply and will one day restore completely as a nation.
Zechariah 13:7 is quoted by Yeshua (Matthew 26:31; Mark 14:27) in reference to the scattering of the disciples during his arrest. The scattering of the disciples was a foreshadowing or inauguration of the scattering of the nation. Messiah is applying what Zechariah prophetically stated about the Jewish people and has come to fruition to his disciples.
The third stage looks forward to the final period of the dispersion of the Jewish people when they will experience a period of unprecedented suffering and persecution. This period is referred to as the Tribulation Period, the final 7 years of Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy (Daniel 9:27). Zechariah tells us during this time 2/3 of all the Jewish people in the Land of Israel will perish. 1/3 will be refined and enter the Messianic Kingdom (Zechariah 13:9).
The fourth stage is the gathering of the armies of the world against Israel and the Jewish people (Zechariah 14:1-2). The attack will occur against Jerusalem and the city will fall.
The fifth stage is the coming of Messiah in defense of his people Israel and the defeat of her enemies (Zechariah 14:3-5, 12-15).
The sixth stage concerns the restoration of Jerusalem. Zechariah writes of the return of the Shekinah glory (Zechariah 14:6-7), and the creation of living water out from Jerusalem bringing fertility to the entire Land of Israel (Zechariah 14:8). He states the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be the only God (Zechariah 14:9), and Jerusalem will dwell in security (Zechariah 14:10-11).
Lastly, the prophet points out all the nations will worship the Lord alone (Zechariah 14:10-19), and everything in the kingdom will be holy to the Lord (Zechariah 14:20-21).

THE END OF THE AGE & MESSIAH'S COMING
This Shabbat service, we continue to study together what Yeshua taught concerning the last days. We'll focus on Matthew 24:15-28 where Messiah speaks about what he describes as a period of great tribulation. He states, "For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened" (vs. 21-22).

Earlier Paul wrote we should so accept one another because God has accepted us (Romans 14:3) and now writes we should accept one another because Messiah accepts us (Romans 15:7).
Paul then goes on to write that both the Jewish and Gentile believers ought to accept one another for this was God's plan and purpose from the beginning. To support this point Paul reaches back into the Hebrew Scriptures to defend his statement. He quotes from II Samuel 22:50 and Psalm 18:49; Deuteronomy 32:43; Psalm 117:1; and Isaiah 11:10.
Paul appeals to these verses for two major reasons: First, they are progressive in nature. The first passage quoted speaks of David praising God among the Gentiles. The second passage speaks of Gentiles praising God with the Jewish people. The third passage is a call to Gentiles to worship God. And the fourth passage speaks of Gentiles worshipping God in the messianic kingdom.
Second, each one of these passages are quoted from a different section of the Hebrew Scriptures which serves to strengthen Paul's argument. He quotes passages from the Writings, the Law, and the Early and Latter Prophets. In doing this Paul has assembled the strongest defense of his statement.
Paul then concludes with the first of three benedictions to his letter to the believers at Rome (15:13, 33; 16:25-27). In it he expresses the desire that his readers would be filled with joy and peace. This joy and peace, Paul tells us, is sourced in God, experienced by those who place their faith and trust in him, with the result that they would be empowered by the Holy Spirit, so as to overflow with hope. May this be our experience not only in 2024 but all the days of our lives.

Psalm 100 is a unique psalm in that it is the only psalm among the 150 psalms that is specified to be a "Psalm for Giving Thanks" (vs.1). It's structure is laid out beautifully. In verses 1-2, we have three imperatives: "shout," "worship," and "come." Then in verse 4, we have three more imperatives: "enter," "give thanks," and "praise." Between these six imperatives, and we have another in verse 3 that links them all together, "know."
The overall structure of the psalm is that we are to always be thankful for two primary reasons: 1. The LORD is God and as such, he is Creator (vs. 3). 2. The LORD is Good and as such, he is Redeemer (vs.5). When one knows the true God as Creator and Redeemer, and thus has become "his," and the "sheep of his pasture," having received his "enduring forever love and faithfulness," then such a one has every reason to be thankful.

We devoted our time to worship and prayer for Israel. 140 were in attendance and it may have been the most important service we conducted all year. The worship was God centered; everyone was focused on interceding for Israel and the Jewish people. and the videos were moving and inspiring.
I invite you to not only view the service, but to use it as a means to continue to lift up your voices in prayer to our God and King in light of all that is developing in Israel and the Middle East.

- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Reservists destroy Hamas, and are victorious against all her enemies;
- The hostages are safe and will be rescued, and that their family members are strengthened and comforted;
- Civilians in Israel and that innocent civilians in Gaza are safe, and those who have be wounded would recover;
- Gaza would be free of Hamas and that Palestinians there would be liberated and restored to their homes;
- President Biden and his administration would remain supportive of Israel, and that our troops would be safe;
- Jewish people around the world would be safe and secure;
- And finally, that Messiah Yeshua would soon return and establish his kingdom.

Shalom Dear Friends,
Paul writes, "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 6:10-20).
These words are a call to arms, a call to be prepared and equipped to respond to the inevitable encounter we will have with evil. Such evil, the likes of which we have not seen in decades has manifested itself by the horrific cruelty of Hamas and its collaborators.
Second, we are told that our battle is against "powers of this dark world," "spiritual forces of evil." Paul is clearly referring to demonic hosts of Satan. When Paul says, "Our struggle is not against flesh and blood," he is not saying that the struggle is never of a physical nature, not having anything to do on the human level. Instead, what he means is, our struggle is not only against flesh and blood. We do often have a physical and visible and human struggle. But over against this we are in a battle against an invisible and spiritual enemy, namely, the Evil One and his demonic forces.
While the Israelis bring the fight to the enemy on the ground and in the tunnels under the ground, those who know the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob can bring their prayers to the Living God in heaven above, who will destroy the works of the Evil One, and both protect and deliver His people Israel.

The prophet Zechariah (12:1-5) speaks of a future time when the nations surround Israel will go on the offensive against Israel. Though speaking of the future, nevertheless much of what is said here can be seen in a limited fashion of what is yet to come.
In this passage Zechariah speaks of surround nations. In Psalm 83 we know what the surrounding nations consist of. They are Edom (currently located in southern Jordan), Ishmaelites (Arab groups without a particular national identity), Moab (currently located in the center of Jordan), Hagrites (Egyptians), Gebal (Lebanon), Ammon (currently located in northern Jordan), Amalek (an ancient ancestors of the sone Arab groups), Philistia (currently the location of Gaza), Tyre (Lebanon), and Assyria (currently encompassing Syria and areas to the north).
These are the nations of peoples who are currently engaged in the war between Israel and Hamas. Jerusalem will become a "basin that will cause staggering." Note, not a "cup" but a "basin." The temptation to go after Jerusalem and the people of Jerusalem, the Jewish people so as to destroy them will be intoxicating for these nations. So much so, they will not under any circumstances let her go until they have invaded and attacked.
But the Jewish people will become like that of a heavy stone (vs.3), that is like one of the stones that made up the city of Jerusalem and the walls around her. And anyone who attempts to pick it up will be crushed by it.
The manner in which these nations will be destroyed is described in verse 4-5. The Lord will strike the horses and those riding upon the horses with madness. In addition he will strike the horses with blindness. In short, both the officers and men along with their weapons will be impacted. The riders will not think straight in the heat of battle. They will make wrong strategic decisions, and their weapons will malfunction.
While the enemies of Israel are weakened, the Jewish people are strengthened for the battle. The leaders of Israel will proclaim that that the people of Israel are strong. And this because the Lord Almighty is their God."

L'SHANNA TOVA TIKATEVU!
"May you be inscribed for a good year!" This is the greeting Jewish people share with one another during this season as they prepare to observe Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
Rosh Hashanah literally means, "the head of the year," and thus refers to "the new year." The festival itself is never called Rosh Hashanah in the Bible, though it is the most common name for the feast today. The biblical name for this feast is Yom T'ruah, meaning "a day of blowing" (Numbers 29:1) referring to the blowing of the shofar or "ram's horn," and Zicharon Teruah, "the memorial of blowing" (Leviticus 23:24).

Yeshua's third extended teaching is on his Messianic Sonship (John 5:19-47). In verses 31-47 in Yeshua presents 5 witnesses in defense of his claim to be the Messianic Son. His first witness is the Father (vs.31-32, 37-38). While it is possible that the one spoken of in verse 31 could be that of John the Baptist (vs.33-35), it seems more probable that the Father is meant.
Yeshua's second witness is John the Baptist (vs. 33-35). Yeshua points out that John was the herald of the king. John said as much when he was questioned by those sent by the Sanhedrin to investigate John's ministry. He said, "I am the voice of one calling in the desert, 'Make straight the way for the Lord'" quoting Isaiah 40:3 (John 1:23).
The third witness to Yeshua's claim to be the Messianic Son is that of his works (vs.36). The works that Yeshua is to accomplish are no ordinary works. They are the "very works that the Father has given me to complete..." Such works bear the authenticating characteristics of God himself thereby testifying that Yeshua is the Messianic Son.
The fourth witness are the Scriptures themselves (vs. 39-40). Even though these Jewish leaders constantly and consistently studied and investigated the Scriptures, they failed to understand its most significant truth claim. Had they interpreted the Scripture rightly, they would have come to recognize Yeshua as the Messianic Son.
Yeshua's final testimony is that of Moses (vs. 45-47). Here we are met with an unexpected witness in support of Yeshua's claim. The Jewish leaders prided themselves in their connection to Moses, Israel's great lawgiver. Had they rightly understood the purpose of the Law they would not have "set their hopes" on Moses. They would have known that the Law was not a means of salvation, but rather a means by which they would know of their sinfulness and of God's provision of an atoning sacrifice that would not merely cover Israel's sin, but remove their sin and render them right with God.
Yeshua provided these witnesses not because he needs them to justify that he is telling the truth about who he is (John 8:13). He is telling the truth with or without these witnesses. So why the witnesses? Yeshua says that he brings to their attention these witnesses, "so that you might be saved" (vs.34).

Gary continues to explore Yeshua's third discourse or extended teaching which focuses on the person or nature of Messiah the Son (John 5:19-23). In this section, Yeshua begins his defense for claiming "My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I, too, am working" (v.16)
The purpose in all of this is to convince humanity to "honor the Son just as they honor the Father" (v.23). The unity between the Father and the Son is such that to honor the Son is to honor the Father, and to honor the Father, one must so honor the Son. What is done to one is done to the other. It is therefore impossible for one to honor the Father and fail to honor the Son. It is impossible for one to love the Father and fail to love the Son. In the words of Yeshua, "He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him."

Daniel's vision of the ram with two horns and goat with one horn reveals the future events that lead to the story of Hanukkah. The body of believers is the visual manifestation of Yeshua ha Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah). His life should be expressed through us. Yeshua is Lord, the Head of the Body. The parable of the prodigal son reveals the definition of salvation: We were lost, and then we were found. Even the 'second' son in the story is 'lost' in his self-righteousness. God, our father, invites all who are lost to come back home to Him. Believers need to remember how God redeemed us and brought us back. We rejoice in the blessing of salvation.

Are we proclaiming the Good News? Do we see our ministry and life as a priestly duty, a holy responsibility that God has placed upon us for us to fulfill to the best of our ability by His grace?

We should endure one another, persevere with one another, be in union with one another, and create this oneness in yourselves that the the Spirit of God has already placed us in.

A Prayer:
Every good gift and perfect gift comes from You. You have promised to bless the nation that trusts in You. You, O God, are our only hope ... Hear our prayer and, for Your honor's sake, shine Your face upon this nation. Give our leaders the desire to seek Your wisdom and the courage to follow Your guidance ... and watch over the men and women of our armed forces as they sacrifice for the cause of freedom. We give You thanks for all You have done for us, and we earnestly pray that You will help us become, once again, a nation whose God is the Lord.
