This is a very different episode, as I am my own guest.

The Tingle Zone is going to have a bit of a break as I am currently refocussing my efforts on a very specific market, those who are Child-Free.

The basic principle stand the same - in terms of finding your Purpose and what it is that makes your bits tingle - but as family is often cited as the reason for so many, there is a different nuance when it comes to those who - like me - don't have children.

For my loyal listeners I therefore share with you the audio version of a chapter I contributed to the International Bestselling Book - Transforming Your Life - Vol III

In it, I share my background, my journey and how I came to uncovering my Purpose.

This is only for my subscribers - I won't be promoting the episode as most people have to pay to access the book or the recording - so it's a little Easter Egg as my gift to you for staying with me on this journey.

Do keep an eye on my Linkedin Profile to see what events are coming up and I hope to be back with you soon.

But for now, sit back, relax - think about what makes your bits tingle, and most of all, enjoy!

In this episode, I'm talking with Michael de Groot who helps businesses tell better stories about themselves, frequently through images and animation.

Part Dutch, part Indian and raised in Suriname, Michael had an interesting upbringing along with adventures in many different ventures. All the different strands of Michael's life come together at the end to where we find him today as a confident creator.

In our conversation, we cover a number of topics, including:

  • what happens to others when you tell your story;
  • an insight into the drip-drip effect of advertising; and
  • the four key things that every story has to have in it.

What is particularly interesting is that, in terms of basic structure, we all have the same story. The nuances may shift but the essence is the same for everyone – and this is why we identify so much with books, films and the power of story.

In this episode, I'm talking with Michael Seaver, an executive coach, leadership consultant, author and public speaker who focuses on unlocking human potential, helping you uncover your most authentic self and define your life's purpose.

Raised on a farm in a small town in Michigan, Michael started working in the family business at the age of 12. When he got married and moved away to Arizona it certainly helped him to broaden his horizons and develop plenty of business and people skills, but also set him up with a number of challenges and created a lot of stress.

Eventually, when his marriage fell apart, Michael went through a state of despair and depression to the point that he was giving serious consideration as to why he was on this planet.

However, a bizarre event involving his cat, Cleopatra, helped him to turn his whole life around, setting him on his journey to understand potential and purpose.

In our conversation, we cover such topics as:

  • how we can take our darkest moments and turn them into opportunities for growth;
  • how being still and trusting in yourself will lead you to the answers you seek; and
  • why stepping into nature can instantly reduce stress and anxiety.

Ultimately, the secret to happiness and a life of joy is about becoming the person that you needed when you were younger.

In this episode, I'm talking with Cathy Nesbitt who has a number of strings to her bow, including worm farmer, mung bean sprout advocate and laughter yoga practitioner.

Cathy spent much of her corporate life working as a secretary for a number of different companies and came to realise that, if you don't like what you're doing – move. Serendipity stepped in and a combination of a bizarre request from a teacher friend and an advert for a business development course opened up a whole can of worms – pun deliberately intended.

In our interview we cover a whole range of things including:

  • the amazing environmental benefits of keeping worms;

  • how to recover from traumatic experiences; and

  • navigating life as an 'over-sensitive' person.

In this episode, I'm talking with Louis Barnett from Ikigai Studio, a marketing consultancy that likes to do things differently.

In fact, Louis has always done things differently. At a very young age he developed an interest in making truffles and chocolates and set up his own business selling them to local shops. Word of mouth got him in front of the big boys and he found himself supplying the likes of Waitrose and Sainsbury's when he was still only 13 years old!!

Along the way he realised the power of innovation when a mentor asked him the key question. Have you ever cooked spaghetti in apple juice? From that conversation he realised that the old ways are not the only ways and that anything you can think of is worth trying.

The unique branding and marketing he was employing in his own business then became noticed by others and now he focuses purely on creating innovative and distinctive marketing campaigns for other organisations.

In our conversation we cover such topics as:

  • why patience is the most useful attribute of an entrepreneur;
  • the importance of getting to know people at a deeper level and fast; and
  • why perfecting your marketing campaign can actually be detrimental to you.

Ultimately, the main thing is to remember that you're always dealing with people and so keep it human at all times.

In this episode, I'm talking with Luke Hohmann, founder and CEO of First Root, a company dedicated to helping improve the financial literacy taught in schools and getting children used to handling money – by giving them money to handle.

Luke originally founded a software company that created a program on which you could run Participatory Budgeting, a collaborative process used by global brands and major cities to manage the finances of large projects.

Luke realised that, if we wanted to create a better society for ourselves and our children, then these key lessons should be taught at school. As well as getting used to making financial decisions, the children learn what a good citizen looks like and how they can positively contribute to a community.

In our conversation, we cover such topics as:

  • how to run a participatory budgetary process, which teaches the value of money and accountability for decisions made;
  • the 4Cs of 21st Century Education (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication and Collaboration) ; and
  • how this all fits into a business context.

At the end of the day, if we can all learn how to work together with something as emotive as money, we can work together on anything.

In this episode, I'm talking with Axel Meierhoefer, a property and real estate investor and mentor, who helps others find the fastest route to their Time Freedom Point.

Axel used to be a test pilot, initially for the German Air Force and then seconded to the US where he ended up staying once he retired from the military. All the time he was paying attention to what 'successful' people did with their money, which led him to becoming interested in property investment.

Using his natural skills of learning, process development and application, he found a way to make it work for him and he's now taken those learnings and looks to help others make it work for them too.

In our conversation, we cover such topics as:

  • why the search for expert help can be compared to a scientific experiment;
  • the importance of making all of your property investments a turn-key operation; and
  • why the Time Freedom Point is only the start of your real journey.

At the end of the day, becoming financially free is not a matter of luck, but a deliberate strategy that is diligently pursued.

In this episode, I'm talking with Charles Read of GetPayroll, who is a specialist in providing payroll services – although he started life as a US Marine, including serving in Vietnam.

This interview has actually been quite hard to summarise.

First of all, it's not about payroll. Yes, it gets mentioned, obviously, but the payroll business is just the context for the learnings to come.

Within that specific space, the conversation does cover such topics as marketing, differentiating and niching – and how it's set up so that every day there is an accomplishment. A success.

Then there's the element that explores the transferable skills that come from a military background and can be applied in business.

Planning, discipline, teamwork, motivational skills and, of course, the desire to accomplish the mission at all costs.

In fact, you effectively learn the key steps to enable you to make your business a well-oiled machine.

However, hidden within this business context, there actually runs a very moving love story. Charles opens up about some very personal matters and we get to see what a business can really be about.

More than just systems and processes and results, but also a family, a support system and even a lifeline in times of need.

Any summary I come up with feels like an injustice to the impact of this interview and the quality and quantity of the learnings you will receive.

All I can do is ask you to take the time and make sure you listen to it all.

In this episode, I'm talking with Alexis Haselberger who is a time management and productivity coach.

Alexis has always been focused on getting as much done with as little effort as possible. Lazy, one might say (and she does), but in a way that is actually a superpower. Without actually realising she had any special talent, it required her boss to come up to her and say “Can you run a workshop and show everyone else how you do what you do?” and from there, a new career was born.

In our conversation, we cover topics such as:

  • how to start a new business when you've no idea what you're doing;

  • why focus is not your starting point when it comes to being effective; and

  • the importance of expending energy only on the things you can control.
    At the end of the day, it's all about doing more with less stress.

In this episode, I'm talking with Ash Shah, MD of World Products, an e-commerce consultancy working with healthcare companies to make sure their message and products get out to the world via the latest technological platforms.

Ash's introduction into business was helping his mother one summer, with a venture that was literally run out of their garage. It went so well that he ended up working there permanently and, over time, he realised that there was much more to be made out of online selling. Over the next couple of years, he turned this garage business into one with a turnover of over £2m. (UPDATE - since our recording, the business is now turning over £8m per annum)

Seeing that he was pretty good at this e-commerce stuff, he then started doing it for other people. Not bad, bearing in mind that he's still only 27 (26 at the time of recording).

In our conversation, we cover such topics as:
- the importance of just going out there and trying things

  • how we only really see the successes of others without appreciating the work that's gone on before; and

  • the importance of the abundant mindset

All in all, this is a great conversation around focus, good habits and positive mindsets.

Mark started as a software engineer during the Dot Com era and knew that he wanted to be a technical director in a company – but came to realise that, in order to do so, he also had to become accomplished in leadership and team building skills too.

During our conversation, we cover such topics as:

  • the importance of communication at all levels of an organisation;

  • how to enjoy networking events; and

  • why focussing on just one area of expertise may not be the best idea.

Overall, Mark gives us a masterclass in finding a direction and building all the skills and experience that you need to get to where you want to be.

In this episode, I'm talking with Rick Terrien, a lifelong entrepreneur whose current focus is the creation of a non-profit organisation - The Center for Ageless Entrepreneurs.

Rick has entrepreneurship in his blood although, as he says, that wasn't a word he used when he first started, which was at the age of 15. His first proper business was started out of his dorm room at college, which he then sold when he was 25. He even designed his course at university around his desire to boost his entrepreneurship journey

When he sold his next business, he was 45 and realised that things had changed. He found that he was being dismissed merely because of his age. It seemed incredible to him that businesses and society were ignoring these people who all held two massive assets.

Experience and networks

Things have changed in recent years but still not enough. Did you know that the majority of startups in the last couple of years have been launched by people who are over 45 – and yet most of the support is targeted at those who are around 20?

Rick put his learnings down into a book entitled “Ageless Startup: Start a Business at Any Age” and launched the aforementioned centre to give support and opportunities to those who are in their 'Apex Years'.

In our conversation, we cover such topics as:

1) the importance of being a small business owner in today's society;

2) where to look for a business idea; and

3) why there's nothing wrong with staying small

He also shares the concept of phased retirement, where companies collaborate with those approaching the later years to start up a new business and benefit from the wisdom they gain in the process.

Many years later, Laurent now finds himself in Helsinki and is dedicated to helping small business owners and entrepreneurs get the best chance in their business life. Usually by helping them get out of their own way.

In our conversation, we cover such subjects as:

  • How to Create Great Questions;
  • The Different Types of Entrepreneurs;
  • The 4 Stages of Entrepreneurship; and
  • The Power of Feeling Stupid

In this episode, I'm talking with El Edwards - who is building a community dedicated to enabling you to smile more and be more 'you' – or 'Youier'.

Brought up in a strong evangelical Christian environment, she was taught from an early age to fear God. El strived to be perfect in every way - the perfect Christian, the perfect wife, the perfect mother. Eventually, she realised that trying to be 'normal' was making her crazy and that something had to change.

El started to build new relationships with her faith and herself and recognised that love is at the heart of everything, including all the flaws and imperfections. Now she helps others to do the same.

This is a joyous discussion where we explore El's journey and beliefs – hopping from one tangent to another, but always getting back to the same message.

We don't need to know exactly where we're going, but if we trust the ripples and follow the nudges – all the time with love in our hearts – then we'll get to where we need to be.

Which actually sums up the conversation itself quite nicely.

Amongst the many things we discuss are topics such as:

  • using stories to deliver your message so that people don't get hung up on specific details;
  • the differences between faith, religion and organised religions; and
  • the many similarities there are between supposedly opposing belief systems.

And the biggest topic of all is, of course, the importance of being you.

In this episode, I'm talking with Holly Woods PhD, founder of the Emergence Institute and author of The Golden Thread – Where to Find PURPOSE in the Stages of Your Life.

From a traumatic childhood through to academic excellence, Holly has spent most of her life digging deep to understand why she is here on this planet and helping others to understand what their Precise Purpose is.

In a nutshell, how to be more of who you are and less of who you are not.

This is a great and insightful conversation about the deeper concepts of Purpose and it was wonderful to have a guest that is so similar to me in terms of viewpoint but coming at it from her own direction and with a different set of skills and experiences.

In our conversation, we cover subjects such as:

  • how your values integrate with the laws of society;

  • why the definition and current attitudes towards Purpose are unclear and continue to shift; and

  • how humanity is in the process of moving through to the next level of evolutionary change.

In this episode, I'm talking with Devin Miller who is a serial entrepreneur, with businesses ranging from a law firm specialising in Intellectual Property to a hydration monitoring smartwatch that helps people with diabetes.

Growing up in an entrepreneurial environment, Devin always had an interest in business. He focussed on getting educated in the first instance, to help him move into that space and then entered a local business competition, which became the catalyst for his first venture.

Overall, he is passionate about small businesses and startups and is frequently approached by other ventures for advice or mentoring – including getting involved on a more hands-on basis.

In our conversation, we cover such topics as:

  • how to get stuff done when there's so much to do;

  • where to look for the next business opportunity; and

  • the fundamental characteristic that separates the successful entrepreneur from the rest.

As a general overview, it becomes clear in our conversation that there is no ONE WAY to run a business. You have to take the learnings that you can and then craft those learnings for your own venture.

In this episode, I'm talking with Jane Ferré, a career coach for HR professionals – whether that's forging a career inside their current organisation or getting back on track after being made redundant.

Jane worked in HR and Training for major companies such as British Airways and Leon, until numerous internal restructures led to her being made redundant. After being unsuccessful in numerous job interviews, she realised that she didn't actually want to be employed and that, deep down, she'd always wanted to work for herself.

Amongst the things we discuss are such subjects as:

  • the importance of playing to your strengths instead of worrying about your weaknesses;
  • why businesses always cut costs in the wrong departments first; and
  • the immediate steps you should take if you are made redundant.

In this episode, I'm talking with Joseph Gerstel, CEO of Get Some Class, which provides remote team-building events for lawyers, introducing fun and laughter into a high-pressured and intense environment.

Joseph started off as a lawyer himself and got to a point where he realised that he'd been forced down a route he didn't want to go down and wasn't enjoying himself. The enforced lockdown caused by the pandemic opened up an opportunity for Joseph to step into a new space and, what started as an experiment in his own firm, has now flourished into an International Business.

This is one of those great conversations where, in addition to his story and reflections on business, Joseph and I get into some very deep and philosophical concepts including topics such as:

  • how do you collaborate with others without risking your own identity?
  • the importance of getting comfortable with uncertainty; and
  • how tragedy is the underlying theme of the human condition and what to do about it.

In this episode, I'm talking with Rael Bricker, international speaker, author and someone who works with business leaders to create rich and robust cultures - with measurable results.

Rael has had a portfolio career, including marketing, training, mergers and acquisitions and venture capitalism. Born in South Africa, now living in Western Australia, Rael's career started out as a junior engineer at an international mining house where the rigid hierarchical nature of the company automatically created division amongst the workforce.

However, a single, notable event on a works trip turned everything on its head for Rael and sparked his interest in organisational culture.

In our conversation, we talk about such subjects as:

  • How culture is a combination of ethics, values, people and communication
  • how people can get it so right and, at the same time, so wrong; and
  • maintaining that culture when everyone is working from home.

It's also interesting to note how the most successful and confident of people can still suffer from imposter syndrome.

James is a TEDx speaker, and author and has represented his country at 4 World Championships and in 2 Paralympics.

This interview is slightly different from our usual episodes as the business element is very much a consequence rather than the main focus. However, the mindsets and attitudes are all very relevant to us all.

In our discussion, we explore:

  • James' relationship with his condition and how his stubbornness enabled him to adapt to situations in order to make things work;

  • his journey through sport, representing his country in three different disciplines; and

  • the challenges, both physical and mental, of being an athlete.

And of course, we do find out how his experiences in sport – including dealing with the failures - set him up for success in business.

In this episode, I'm talking with Dancho Dimkov, a serial entrepreneur, founder of lead generation company BizzBee Solutions and author of the book Sweet Leads.

Dancho set up his first business at the age of 21. Like many of us, much of his early success came from hard graft and using every hour that was available. However, as other factors became more important – you know, life and all that – he realised that he had to create a company that was able to perform without him being there.

In this podcast, Dancho shares exactly what he did to build such a business as well as the mistakes he made along the way. This is invaluable stuff for anyone who wants to actually own a business and not just be an employee in their own company.

In addition, we discuss subjects such as:

  • why it's essential that you give yourself permission to make mistakes;
  • a simple methodology around making tough decisions; and
  • the importance of selling a solution, not a product or service.

At the heart of it all, marketing is really about having great conversations.

In this episode, I'm talking with Kirstin Gooldy who is a business leader, board member of multiple companies and, what she describes as an intuitive advisor and modern-day shaman.

Having followed the normal career path, Kirstin found herself successful – in a male-dominated industry - but stressed, depressed and at risk of losing her family.

She realised that there had to be a different way.

Kirstin had always been an intuitive child, but this intuition had been blocked through a combination of childhood trauma and social conditioning. By reconnecting to her true self she has found a better way to be and now helps business leaders connect with their true selves and become more empathetic and powerful in the process creating a win/win/win environment.

In our conversation, we explore many areas including:

  • the impact a toxic environment can have on your health;

  • finding the positive possibility in every moment of chaos; and

  • the rewards that can come from listening to your intuition, as opposed to taking the obvious route.

In short, if you are not listening to your consciousness, something's going to knock you out to get you to listen.

Now, with the approaching publication of his next book “The One Call Sale”, I am so grateful and excited to be able to bring Ari in front of you so that you too can hear some of his words of wisdom.

In our conversation, we explore such topics as:

  • why you should do the opposite of everything the old sales gurus tell you;
  • the invisible river of pressure that lies under every sales call and what to do about it; and
  • the one phrase that you must stop using immediately

In this episode, I'm talking with Celeste Lustosa. Originally from Brazil and now living in Australia, Celeste runs her own Marketing and PR company.

A natural storyteller, Celeste was creating her own newspaper at the age of 7. Her natural drive and curiosity meant that whenever an opportunity arose, she would be the first to put her hand up and volunteer. As a consequence, she ended up working on the local mayor's electoral campaign. That ended up becoming a paid job and, after a few more hand raises, found herself working for State Government, doing PR around the Amazon rainforest.

In our conversation, we cover such subjects as:

  • how reading books is a genuine superpower;
  • why you should never take a job just for the money; and

In this episode, I'm talking with Paul Glover who is known as the No B.S. Coach. Paul works with business owners and executives, mainly in the distribution and manufacturing sector, and tells them exactly how it is.

Paul used to be an aggressive barrister, focussed on doing whatever he needed to in order to win his case. After falling in with the wrong crowd and being tempted into bending the rules a little too far, he got found out and spent the next 5 and half years in prison.

(I was going to call this episode “From The Bar to Behind Bars” but there's much more to the conversation than just this event)

Having forced himself to take a good hard look at himself, he became a reformed character and realised that his experiences could help others. After all, a lot of leadership is all about managing some very tricky relationships and taking responsibility for your own actions.

At the heart of it all, Paul cares about people – and cares about them enough to tell them the truth.

Amongst many other things we discuss subjects such as:

  • coping with situations outside of your control, regardless of the impact upon you;
  • how everyone has a voice that is worth listening to; and
  • the importance of facing up to reality.

In this episode, I'm talking with Jeff Dunn, an insurance broker with Spencer Hayes Group with over 40 years working in the insurance industry.

Now I know what you might be saying. Insurance is not exactly the most exciting of industries and I'm not sure I want to hear someone drone on about commercial risk and actuarial calculations.

The truth of the matter is that insurance is actually all about people – or at least it is when it comes to Jeff's process.

Jeff explains how he takes a different approach to the standard insurance broker by actually getting to know the business and the people that work there, rather than just trying to beat their previous premium. This enables him to find a solution that properly fits the client.

We get to find out:

  • how Jeff got into insurance the first place, straight after leaving school;

  • how his upbringing helped him develop the mental toughness to bounce back from serial redundancies, sometimes within a few hours: and

  • his plans for the future, which include continuing what he does whilst living abroad.

Vanessa does not come from an entrepreneurial family but it was her family that inspired her to follow the path that she is now on - though not in the way that you might imagine.

The next key step for her was when she was just a teenager and she began to think about her own funeral ! What she wanted it to look like, who she wanted to be there and what those people would say. From there it was all about creating a life that would enable that to happen and to ensure that she lived a life without regret.

In our conversation we cover such subjects as:

  • the dangers of trying so hard to fit in that you lose yourself;

  • how entrepreneurship is actually personal development on steroids; and

In this episode, I'm talking with Lee Houghton, the founder of Get Knowledge, a consultancy/coaching company focussed on business improvement.

Lee has had a varied career, from his initial desires of being a DJ through to running a Bouncy Castle Hire business. Everything changed, however, when the loss of his closest friend made him completely re-evaluate what was important to him.

Within those final weeks, Lee had the opportunity to ask his friend what he believed were the three most important things in life. Three lessons which Lee took to heart and now shapes his entire business.

In our interview, Lee shares with us

  • what those three lessons were;
  • why they have relevance to all of us; and
  • how you can incorporate them into your own life.

This is a very powerful story on how to turn a horrific situation into something meaningful and positive.

In this episode, I'm talking with Dr Dina Preston-Ortiz and her husband Don Ortiz who have uniquely combined music and business.

As professional musicians, they started with nothing (well 31¢, to be precise) and have built themselves up to where they have toured all round the world - without any record deals or any management to oversee things.

They are also business experts, teaching the principles through their own talks and programmes as well as at College, where Dina is a business management professor.

In our conversation, we explore how being in a band has taught them everything they needed to know in business about:

  • leadership and communication;
  • the sales mindset;
  • balancing a targetted marketing approach whilst still being able to help everyone; and
  • the importance of listening to your market in order to tailor your product.

This is quite possible the ultimate story in combining your passion with business - and getting the right balance of both.

In this episode, I'm talking with Arn Terry, a blogger and Social Media professional who looks to demystify social media for business owners in order to unlock wealth and have fun along the way.

Arn used to be in recruitment, specifically an international head hunter. Back in the day his life was perfect. Good income, nice house, nice car, newly married, first child on the way – and then the 2008 crash hit.

Everything stopped, almost overnight. With no income and the loans taken out for the wedding, honeymoon and car still unpaid for, it was crisis time.

In our conversation, we explore

  • what had to be done in order to get through the financial crisis;
  • what he learned through the process about the mindset for survival; and
  • the importance of investing in yourself.

  • the importance of having a good team or support network around you;

In this episode, I'm talking with Dylan Ogline who, as well as running a successful digital marketing agency, also teaches others how to do the same thing.

Dylan is a long term entrepreneur, starting his first business at the age of 14. Things were going so well for him that he dropped out of high school – which meant he didn't have much to fall back on when, almost overnight, he was forced to stop trading.

From there he bounced around doing whatever he could to pay the bills. Due to a combination of 'shiny object syndrome' and the curse of 'perfectionism', nothing else really got off the ground.

Dylan found himself overworked and overstressed and, at the same time, utterly broke. Making nothing, going nowhere.

All of a sudden, the right person came along – gave him a metaphorical slap round the face – and told him the one thing he needed to hear.

Overnight, Dylan changed, found focus and within two years his agency was making 7 figures.

Knowing what it's like to be in that position, Dylan's mission is to help as many people avoid the traps that he fell into.

He helps people get out of the jobs they don't enjoy, gives them the confidence and the tools to realise that they can start a new business, get that business up and running and actually start making decent money from that business. They in turn, help other companies to grow bigger, to grow faster, to grow better.

He's creating a tribe of people who now realise that whatever happens in the world, they know they can ride through it and find a way to move forwards without being impacted by those external factors, because it doesn't matter what happens out there. It's what happens inside that counts.

If you want to know more about Dylan, particularly if you're interested in setting up your own business, have a look at his website:

In this episode, I'm talking with Joseph Sudhip who is one of the top 10 Business Model Design Coaches.

It has been shown that 80% of the most successful global companies did not have new products or services but, instead, had new business models. However, by new, it only meant they were new within their industry or new to them, the actual number of business models that work is actually quite finite.

Joseph has developed a modular approach to creating the most appropriate business model for his clients, allowing them to 'drag and drop' the components that they need. In the interview we look at some of the key elements, including, and by no means limited to:

  • 4 key pillars that hold the model up;
  • 6 profit improving multipliers;
  • 14 basic frameworks; and
  • 60 success patterns that can be applied to those frameworks.

By mixing and matching the different elements, a great business can be created.

The importance of having a successful model is to take the effort out of actually running the business. Getting that model right can take a lot of trial and error, unless you have someone that can guide you through all the options. Joseph makes it easier for the business owner to find that model and, consequently, make things easier for them.

Of course, any business is only as good as the people within that business and Joseph has a great take on what makes a great leader.

It's not just about that leader having their own vision and direction. A great leader also gives confidence to the people beneath them to start dreaming.

There is a lot of information in this podcast that can really help you with your own business models. I suggest you listen with a pen and paper to hand so that you can take notes.

In this episode, I'm talking with Aman Agarwal, a serial entrepreneur who is reverse engineering his life – truly starting with the end in mind – and creating a life and career based out of curiosity and passion, rather than just making money.

Following his experiences of other countries and cultures we find how and why he ended up in Silicon Valley working on the development of self-driving cars. From there we discuss his current venture, Sanpram Transnational, an education company that helps entrepreneurs be more technically fluent - particularly relevant with the shifts that are going on right now – and how he incorporates techniques learnt from film making and learning different languages to ensure the lessons stick.

Key things that crop up out of our conversation are:

  • the importance of not just a Plan A and a Plan B, but a Plan Z;
  • the concept of a Minimum Successful Project; and
  • why it is important to say no to some of your desires in order to allow the others to work.

In this episode of The Tingle Zone, I'm talking with Jaryd Krause, based in the Gold Coast of Australia but working globally as he specialises in teaching people how to buy and sell online businesses.

For years I've been talking with people about how to invest in physical businesses but I'd never actually heard of this being applied to the online world. Yet it makes total sense. When I found out what Jaryd did, I just had to get him on to the show to find out more about what he does and how he got into it.

Welcome to 2021 and the first episode of a new series of The Tingle Zone.

And this time, something a little different.

I will be talking to Mark Hayward of Absolute Business Mindset - but he will also be talking to me.

Mark and I connected a few months ago and discovered that we had a very similar background, do very similar things now and both host similar podcasts. Instead of me going on Mark's podcast and then him coming on mine, we decided to do something a bit different and record a single conversation which could serve for both.

Consequently, the format is a little different as we incorporate Mark's questions to me, as well as mine to him.  Which means you get to hear a lot more from me about my journey than you do normally.

Along the way we also discuss topics such as getting a new business off the ground, losing momentum along the way and how current technologies will impact the business of the future.

In this episode, I'm talking with Jacqueline Maddison – writer, entrepreneur and founder and editor-in-chief of Beverley Hills Magazine.

Jacqueline started her magazine from scratch, with no money, getting it going just writing one article at a time.

The journey has not been a straightforward journey by any means. Like so many ventures, true success has only been uncovered once full despair has been reached.

Jacqueline rediscovered her mojo through her faith which is something that we discuss throughout this interview.

I'm totally aware that not everyone will hold the same beliefs as Jacqueline, me being one of them. However, many of those points of difference are actually irrelevant and there is much that we do agree on. If your approach to faith is different to Jacqueline's, then I encourage you to listen to this interview with an open mind, look through those differences and notice the underlying principles of success – which ring true no matter who you are.

Topics we cover included the concepts of there being no such thing as failure, the definitions of success and prosperity and noting that in both cases, it's about a lot more than just money

We obviously discuss Gigleads in our interview but we also look at how important it is at times to take a leap of faith, explore the cultural shocks that can arise from living abroad – which aren't always what you would expect – and we look how nothing we do in life is ever really wasted or lost.

Up until now it's been about "all in this together".  As that changes the pressures become much more difficult, so these are incredibly important things to consider

The event sector was one of the first areas to be hit by the Corona Virus shut down and may well be one of the last to fully recover.

Like many other people working in that arena, Magician Scott Perry saw his pipeline evaporate almost over night.  Have a listen to what thought processes Scott went through and his considerations for the future.

If you're in a similar situation, you may not find the answers you seek in this interview but hopefully it'll help you find the right questions to ask - which is half the battle.

Every Monday morning at 9.30am, I run a free online support session called Strive.  It's a combination of Survive and Thrive with the added implication that you've got take some action yourself.

At the first of these I had Kate Thorpe, therapist specialising in stress and anxiety, deliver a session on how we can all look after ourselves during lockdown to ensure that our mental wellbeing stays intact.

I recorded it and now make it available via this podcast.  No additional intros or outros, literally lifted from the recording.

If you listened to my webinar "How to Survive the Financial Crisis - with the Guy Who Wrote the Book on it" - three of the things I mentioned were to track your numbers, act quickly and learn how to adjust to the new environment.

Mark Harris of UW has done exactly that.

Listen to how quickly he made a pretty major decision but also note why he was able to make that decision so quickly.

In this episode I speak with David Nixon of Speaky Blinders and David Nixon Writing. David has had a portfolio career – apoet, street performer, occupational therapist, researcher, actor, cabaret artist, event promotor … the list goes on. Today he helps people improve their public speaking skills, especially for those doing a one off gig such as a Best Man speech.

A few years ago, David suffered a brain injury which forced him to re-evalute what's important in life. His disability is not outwardly evident yet it affects him on a day to day basis.

We caught up over a coffee for a chat and I would call our interview philosophical, fascinating and fun.

PLEASE NOTE - this podcast does contain background hubbub and music, as it was recorded in Frankie and Benny's. I've done nothing to affect these extra noises in order to keep things authentic.

BONUS PODCAST

Before we started the formal interview for the last podcast, Gregory Reece Smith and I spent a bit of time chatting by way of getting warmed up and all that.  A number of the points we discussed were actually really interesting but there wasn't really room in the main podcast to crowbar them in.

Consequently, I thought it worth pulling out the key points and uploading it as a short bonus podcast.

Have a listen and enjoy

In this episode I speak with Gregory Reece Smith, an international bestselling author, coach and shaman. Like me, Gregory started out in the world of accountancy and finance following the traditional path of education and work. Eventually, he realised that the high level path that he'd been following was completely wrong for him and discovered that he'd set out on it for completely the wrong reasons.

So he left and headed in a completely different direction and now uses Shamanic techniques to help business owners and entrepreneurs reconnect what they do with their soul path.

In our conversation we explore how and why society's established working practices are out of date, the importance of paying attention to what your body is telling you and what our purpose is during our time on this earth.

Not bad for a few minutes of your time.

PLEASE NOTE - we had a few signal quality issues during this recording. I've done my best with what limited editing skills I have to fill in the blanks so please be patient with a few buzzes and blurs and if you don't quite catch something, then it probably wasn't that important.

In this episode I talk to Michelle Cowan, co-founder and Managing Director of My SMART App and Justo Software.

Prior to setting up her own business, Michelle worked in large corporate sales for companies such as Apple and Cisco. Incredibly successful in those firms it was only when she took an extended holiday that she realised that she was actually stressed and missing out on what was really important to her. Her family.

In our conversation we discuss mental health in the workplace, the pressures we put on ourselves and finding the right balance. We also look at what makes a good sales person, the importance of diversity in a team and the importance of being true to yourself.

Make sure you listen all the way through because we conclude with a discovery that connects directly with something said right at the beginning.

What hidden patterns are you running that fundamentally explain who you are and how you show up in the world?

In Part 1 of my interview with Paul Stevens from Helplocks, notice how seemingly different episodes of his life are actually all connected.

Helplocks is a Yorkshire based firm dedicated to helping people feel safe within their own homes.  They are so much more than a 'locksmith' as their service based model run a number of tools and platforms, via Apps and Facebook pages, that allow the community to support each other.

In Part 1, we get to hear about Paul's story before setting up Helplocks and get to understand what makes him tick.

One specific scene to take note of is the point when Paul breaks away from his controlling father.  On face value it looks like the father has ripped off his own son for a few quid, but note how it's Paul that is actually in power and controls the situation.

For more on the business go to www.helplocks.com.
