New seasons are all about moving from where you are to where God wants you to be. How do you discern what next steps to take – many times you won’t know. But that’s what faith is all about. God wants you to know His will more than you want to know; therefore He takes personal responsibility to see that you discover it. “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails (Prov. 16:9).” This week we will explore the process to discern the Lord’s plans and how to transition into those plans for our lives.

Every new season comes with our own set of dreams – for our family, finances, or for our future. But, when circumstances beyond our control alter the plans we have, how do we navigate through the change? There is often a disconnect between our dreams and reality. Learning how to sit in the “waiting room” is an important part of the process of developing our dreams into reality. It can be the happiest waiting time, e.g., for the birth of your child, or tax-return in the mail, or mom returning from her trip. Or, it can be the most agonizing ordeal, e.g., waiting for the results of surgery, jury verdict, grade report from school. What you do during your waiting time is the key to stepping into your future. The life of Joseph in Gen. 39 helps us to understand how God treats our waiting times, not as wasted time, but as time to adjust our dreams to align with His purposes.

For the people of Israel, their season was about to change – whether for better or
worse, it was completely up to them. They had been freed from Pharaoh’s grip
and on their way to the Promised Land. However, their journey proved to be less
thrilling than they had hoped for. While “in-transit” to the best that God had prepared for them, discontentment distorted their view of God’s plans for their future and caused the people to demand to return to Egypt (Num. 14). The lessons from their discontentment will teach us how to trust God and the importance of closing any door that leads us back to the “Egypt” of our past.
