Sauti Sol surprised fans by announcing that after their next album and tour, they are going on an indefinite hiatus. For some of us in the industry this didn't really come as a surprise, they haven't been watering the Sauti Sol brand much since 2020. What does that tell you? Let me give you a breakdown of why this is the end for Sauti Sol.

"We are excited to announce that Sauti Sol, Africa’s sensational musical powerhouse, will embark on an exhilarating tour stopping in 5 cities across the U.S, followed by 10 stops in Europe and 4 stops in Canada before taking an indefinite hiatus. I first learnt about Holy Ten when he dropped the video for Ndaremerwa where he made his name stick with a whole generation of music lovers. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear Nviiri The Storyteller is Kenyan music star and Sauti Sol. He is a singer, songwriter and guitarist under Sol Generation Records. He is also a video editor and such is his multifaceted skillset, his music shows a bit of that as well. Probably his biggest hit to date is the song Pombe Sigara which became a cult hit. Landrick has been around for a good 6 or 7 years as a top artist. He is a popular Angolan singer and songwriter known for his R&B style that includes light Afro-pop undertones with a very romantic approach. His first big hit was in 2015 with "Me Agarra Só Uhm". He is back in 2021 with a brand new EP titled Petiscos.

Nigerian artist, Fireboy DML made himself known to my musical fancy not long ago and I instantly became a fan. Last time out when I reviewed his album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps I did say I had hope for what he had to offer musically. Burna Boy's latest album "Twice As Tall" is easily one of the most anticipated albums of the year and possibly the most awaited on the African market. It is a follow up to the mammoth 'African Giant' which cemented Burna's place as one of the best musicians alive. Interestingly, even before release, we knew the album had a more international flavour to it with Diddy coming in as an Executive Producer. That is a huge endorsement on Burna Boy's part.

You may know Shiikane from their monster hit Loke from 2016 which owned the airwaves when the Afrobeats revolution was taking its current shape. The trio comprises 3 sisters; Shay, Princess and Baby Kay. Shay and Princess are twins. Their latest EP is titled N.W.A which stands for Nigerians with Attitude (a play on the name of legendary hip hop pioneer group NWA) dropped a few months back and I thought why not review it? Although the sisters are all born and raised in South London, it’s safe to say they resonate with their Nigerian audience and embrace their origins in everything they do which is lovely to see. They did face a tough trial to be accepted back home but they’ve really made it work.
Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro otherwise popularly known as Sha Sha is a South Africa-based Zimbabwean vocalist and songwriter from Mutare. Some even call her the queen of Amapiano, a popular music genre out of South Africa. After she moved to South Africa to pursue music, she met DJ Maphorisa through her cab driver where she played him one of her songs. The rest, as they say, is history.

He is signed to YBNL Nation, an independent record label founded by Nigerian rapper Olamide. His debut studio album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps was released in November 2019. It has racked over a 100 million streams online across all digital platforms in just over 2 months. He is a star and here is a review for his latest project.

He is one of the first modern Lesotho artists I ever got to know. Mr Eazi gave us one of the biggest African Music projects of 2018 and is considered one of the biggest artists in Africa. He obviously needs no introduction at all and you probably know his past hits such as Leg Over, Bankulize featuring Pappy Kojo, Skin Tight featuring Efya, Eugy’s Dance For Me where he featured, and many more.
He has an artist deal with Mad Decent which is owned by Diplo of Major Lazer and licensing deals with Universal Africa and Columbia Records UK in 2018. His label Banku Music and UMG Africa jointly released the 2018 project Life is Eazi Vol 2 Lagos To London project.
The title Life is Eazi Vol 2 - Lagos To London refers to Mr Eazi’s musical journey as a Lagos boy now in London with the world at his feet. Vol 2 is about Mr Eazi becoming a household name and finding himself relocating to the UK. Listen to our review of this project.
