Serving ALL Students

As we look at heading back to school with all the possible options of delivery of physical education, we will discuss how to engage the students that are hardest to reach. Whether students are in a self-contained classroom or engaging in distance learning from home, we will talk about action steps and examples to tap into your resources of staff colleagues and technology and still have inclusion as an option. We will discuss collaboration with special education teachers, the use of technology to access physical education, and tools to engage learners from their homes. Specific examples will be shared that give simple strategies yet follow a lens of trauma informed practices, skill-based strengths, and social emotional supports. Our work is based on relationships and fun to teach ALL students to lead a healthy active life.

Where Does Physical Literacy Fit Now?

In 2017, SHAPE America national convention and the INSHAPE state convention, Dean Kriellaars shared why physical literacy is on par with reading literacy. Fast forward to today, he re-visits the role of physical literacy in a new world with new ideas to emphasize literacy over fitness. His recent work with sports organizations shows why this applies to all learners, not just elite athletes.
