Melanie Dixon (L: Melanie Dixon) grew up in Mandurah with no initial connection to agriculture. After earning a degree in Animal Health and Animal Science at Murdoch University, she felt uncertain about her career direction. After uni, she started working as a Project Officer at West Midlands Group.
Eager to make an impact, Melanie also began a Master of Data Science at James Cook University, driven by the desire to link the right data with the right people. During her time at WMG, she discovered a passion for organising events, successfully launching the Student Crop Walk and Pasture Drive Series, two very different styles of events but each tailored for a different audience.
Melanie's combination of practical experience, data science skills, and event planning expertise makes her a committed professional dedicated to advancing the agricultural sector.

Alex Conway is an Agricultural Engineer working with the GRDC Grain Storage Extension Team and Control Unlimited and is dedicated to improving grain storage research and development for growers and industry. He has always had a strong passion in the harvest and post-harvest management area of research with practical skills gained Australia wide and overseas.

James White (L: James White) grew up on his family’s beef cattle operation in Barnawartha and has since gained extensive experience working on sheep, dairy, vineyards, and grain operations throughout Victoria and NSW. Currently, he is in his final year of studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Charles Sturt University.
James is passionate about helping farmers implement nutritional strategies to bring crop & livestock health above the conventional standard. Through this approach, James aims to reduce farmers reliance on chemical management and ultimately improve human health outcomes throughout society.
Currently, James is an undergraduate nutrition agronomist with Hybrid Ag, a member of several university clubs, including wine society, a residential leader, and an AgriFutures Horizon Scholar.
His passion for ag extends to all aspects of the industry, particularly livestock and broadacre enterprises. He is passionate about promoting career opportunities in agriculture and promoting ag as not just being about steering a machine. It is a career opportunity which needs smart, passionate, technical people, who have an endless love for the land and their community.

Alex Cannizzaro, the founder of Platform Zero (IG: @platformzero.tech), is on a mission to eradicate food waste. With a deep-rooted connection to fruits and vegetables, his family has been supplying them to various establishments—from large supermarkets to local grocers and restaurants—for over 70 years, spanning across the nation and the globe. As the third generation in his family, Alex proudly endeavours to revolutionise the industry for a brighter future.

Chloe Wright (IG: @_chloe_adventures_) grew up on a small cattle property on the Fraser Coast and is currently studying a Bachelor of Agriculture and Business online through UNE Armidale. Having completed an Associate Degree in Contemporary Voice and registering as a Civil Celebrant she has had a journey like no other. She currently works as a Cadet Agronomist in the cotton industry in Central Queensland, whilst continuing to study full time.
She is a firm believer in seizing all opportunities and is very grateful to have been involved in programs offered by the National Farmers Federation and UNE which have helped in furthering her networking skills and passion for agriculture.
Chloe looks forward to an exciting future in ag as she expands her knowledge and skills across different areas in the industry.

Ryan Skamp (Twitter: @SKANfarming) is a driven young farmer and entrepreneur spearheading agricultural innovation through his groundbreaking venture, Skan. Motivated by a desire to optimise farm machinery routes, Ryan co-founded Skan with software engineer Lachie Ross.

Ming Fung Chua (L: Ming Fung Chua) worked for Wide Open Agriculture with a focus on business development and project management under its startup food brand Dirty Clean Food. She played a critical part in building the foundation and operations of DCF and specialises in Project Management in areas of commerce, marketing strategies and adapting to dynamic environments, showcasing a resilient nature in the face of constant change.
Now working at Beanstalk AgTech, an innovation agency dedicated to unleashing the potential for agriculture to be the leading force for good by supporting industry leaders, start-up innovators, investors, and government bodies across the Indo-Pacific to advance sustainable, ethical, and responsible food systems.
Ming holds a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Agricultural Science and Conservation Biology, and a Masters in Agricultural Science with a focus on Soil Science and Plant Nutrition from The University of Western Australia. She is passionate about sustainability, agtech, and loves working with local producers to help develop go-to-market strategies for their products.

Mitchell McNab, (IG: @thefruitprinceofbelair) named the Young Farmer of the Year in 2023, represents a new wave of innovation in Australian agriculture. Raised in Ardmona, Victoria, he initially pursued a business degree before returning to his family's orchards to revolutionise farming practices. As the chair of Fruit Growers Victoria, Mitchell advocates for modernisation and sustainability, navigating challenges like hailstorms and pricing fluctuations with resilience. Through his pioneering efforts in high-density planting and the integration of robotics, Mitchell seeks to secure the future of Australian agriculture while inspiring the next generation of farmers to embrace change and opportunity.

Whilst growing up in Sydney, Natalie Bell (L: @Natalie Bell) fostered a passion for cattle through her high school’s agriculture Show Team. Her journey continued with an Agricultural Science degree from Sydney Uni with honours in Livestock Production. She has worked across multiple sectors including a Parent Seed agronomist role in QLD and various roles within the domestic Pork industry. Currently based in Holbrook, NSW Natalie is a Business Analyst in the cattle industry.
Natalie is also the founder of Hylo Ag, a sustainability start-up aiming to help the Australian livestock industry revolutionise on-farm plastic waste. Hylo Ag’s innovative approach enables farmers, feedlots and abattoirs to recycle plastic ear tags.
In her spare time, Natalie enjoys playing touch football, lawn bowls and flipping old furniture.

Michael Young (T: @farm_optimise) is an experienced agriculturalist from Kojonup who has completed his PhD at UWA. Specialising in whole-farm economic modelling to understand, evaluate, and optimise farming systems and their management. Michael has since started Farm Optimisation Group, a company that leverages the latest research findings to improve on-farm decision making. Helping producers boost profitability and manage risk.
Emily Fasham, (L: @emily-fasham) hails from a rice farm near Wakool, blends her passion for agriculture with a mastery of data science. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, specialising in Plant and Soil Science, from the University of Melbourne, where she held leadership roles in the Agriculture and Food Sciences Society. Transitioning to the University of Adelaide, Emily is pursuing a Master's in Data Science (Applied) to further her understanding of its application in agriculture. With nearly two years of experience at the SunRice Group, initially as a Jan Cathcart Graduate in Rice Extension and now in Sustainability.

Austin Grace (@austingrace99) grew up on a family farm near Young, fostering a deep love for the sheep and wool industry while working alongside family at Demondrille Merinos. He honed his skills further through a 2-year traineeship as a jackaroo at Egelabra Merino stud before pursuing formal education.
Austin holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management from Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, and a Certificate IV in Wool-classing. Returning to Egelabra Merino Stud post-graduation, he served as Assistant Manager, overseeing livestock operations and mentoring a team of jackaroos.
Currently, Austin serves as Manager at Bogo Merinos in Cootamundra. In addition, he operates 'AG Livestock', offering sheep classing, ram selections, and consultancy services across NSW.
Notable accolades include being a 2021 Peter Westblade Scholar, securing first place in the 2023 AWEX national wool classers competition, and completing the AWI breeding leadership course.
With a passion for the sheep and wool industry, Austin is dedicated to enhancing merino breeding for greater profitability. He also actively contributes to industry advancement through training and educational initiatives.

Austin Smith, Agronomist, Owner & Director FB: SMS RURAL brings hands-on agricultural expertise to his role at SMS Rural Services in Horsham. Hailing from a sheep and cattle farm in Dartmoor before relocating to Kapunda in the mid-north of South Australia.
From an early age, Austin has always had a passion for agriculture, which has only grown stronger over the years. Beginning with a traineeship in agriculture, he diligently climbed the ranks, eventually obtaining an agronomy diploma from Longerenong.
Austin's diverse experience includes hay export, farm supplies, and animal merchandise. Now, based in Horsham, he lends his expertise to a range of broad-acre farming properties while serving as one of the owners and directors of SMS Rural.
An advocate for technological advancement in agriculture, Austin is committed to leveraging innovation to drive sustainability and profitability for growers. He remains deeply engaged in ongoing learning and immersion within the industry, constantly evolving to meet its ever-changing demands.

Veronica Terry (L: @Veronica Terry) is a qualified economic developer, holding a Bachelor of Business and a Graduate Diploma, with a financial background. Her role as Program Manager for Regional Development involves identifying and enhancing economic strengths and opportunities within the Cradle Coast region. This includes creating opportunities to build on and cross-pollinate local expertise in key sectors, such as agriculture, renewable energy, and manufacturing. Veronica works with Cradle Coast Authority Member councils to contribute to regional economic development through strategic initiatives and partnerships.
Veronica and her husband, Rob, run a dynamic farming business that focuses on vegetable and grain production. Over the years, other farming activities have included winter dairy cow agistment for local dairy farmers, contract grain harvesting, spray contracting, contract potato planting, and contract potato harvesting.
A past Grain Growers Grain Leaders program graduate, Veronica is also incredibly passionate about creating pathways for young people to access capital in order to start their own farm business.

Alison Hamilton (IG: @alisonhamiltoncoach), a fourth-generation farmer, business founder, and CEO, as well as an industry board director, wife, and mother of two, embraces each of these roles with passion. Annalee Godwin, (F: Black Label Brangus) began her agricultural journey in her family’s Central Queensland's commercial livestock operation. Graduating from Rockhampton Grammar School in 2017, she boldly launched her own Brangus stud soon after at the age of 18, showcasing her early entrepreneurial spirit. Annalee's passion for the industry earned her a sponsored trip to the Houston Livestock Show by Brangus Australia in 2019, expanding her knowledge and network. Notably, she clinched the prestigious Burnham Youth Award in the same year, which recognised her positive contribution as a young person towards the breed.
Annalee sought out opportunities to learn more about stud breeding, which lead her to spending three years working for NCC Brahmans. Now, as of 2023, Annalee has spent the year cutting her teeth in the north, challenging herself in a stock camp travelling around the NT.

Sam McGrath (IG: @sam.mcgrath05) resides on a mixed farming operation on the Darling Downs in Queensland. The McGrath family has been actively farming in Cecil Plains for six generations since 1920, and Sam currently represents the sixth generation. Engaged in a diverse range of agricultural activities, the farm cultivates wheat, barley, sorghum, and mungbeans, alongside a livestock enterprise that includes cattle and sheep.
Having recently graduated from Toowoomba Grammar School, where Sam spent six years, he developed a strong interest in both sports and academics. During this time, a newfound passion for drones and videography emerged in late 2021. This fascination was sparked by the viral trend of farming content on TikTok, and Sam has been captivated by it ever since.

Claudia Benn (L: @Claudia Benn) splits her time between consulting in the areas of broadacre cropping and grazing management for FARM Agronomy, and her family’s organic, grass-fed beef breeding operation.
Claudia is passionate about improving economic, ecological and social outcomes by farming in alignment with natural processes and tackling environmental challenges through addressing root causes. She places a strong importance on encouraging diversity and biological relationships between soil, microbes, plants, animals and people. Claudia has recently been awarded a Nuffield Scholarship where she plans to explore this further.

Tam Michalek (L: @Tam-michalek) grew up in South Australia in Naracoorte and attended Lucindale Area School which specialised in Agriculture, before moving to Western Australia to follow a career in Livestock. Tam is now based in Gidgegannup, WA. Where she works with her husband and manages their Black Angus and Speckle Park cattle, as well as hay contracting and livestock truck carting business. Tam is also Australia’s youngest live export licensee holder with Chloe Grant together they run T&T Rural Contracting exporting cattle to the middle east.

Meg Tate (nee McCosker) (L: Meg McCosker) hails from Emerald, QLD, where her roots are firmly embedded in the world of crop production and livestock management. After high school, she studied a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, with a specialisation in Crop Science and Agribusiness from CQ University. Prior to her most recent role as an Agriculture Workforce Officer, Meg served as an Agronomist, lending her expertise to the agricultural landscape of the Central Highlands region.
In her capacity as an Agriculture Workforce Officer, Meg demonstrated her commitment to agricultural education and training. During her time at CHRRUP, Meg played a pivotal role in the conceptualisation and implementation of the LEADAg pilot program in 2022 and its expansion in 2023.
Meg's journey has now taken her south to Goondiwindi, where she continues her contribution to the agricultural sector. Alongside her husband, she is poised to make further strides in this dynamic industry.

Paige Cross is the owner and main consultant at Cross Country Management (IG: @crosscountrymanagement) She grew up on a multi-generational broadacre cropping and sheep farm in the Mid-North of South Australia, has a degree in Agronomy and a long history in the agribusiness sector.

Chloe Smart (L: Chloe Smart) studied a Bachelor of Animal Science at The University of Adelaide before spending two years as a Jillaroo in the Flinders Ranges, SA. She has travelled across Northern SA and Western NSW as a contract musterer and prior to commencing her AgCAREERSTART role with the National Farmers' Federation, Chloe was working as a senior station hand on a 280,000-acre merino sheep property in Hay, NSW.
Chloe understands on-farm roles and the challenges associated with farm life. As the Training and Career Development Coordinator for the AgCAREERSTART program, Chloe is responsible for researching and accessing training opportunities for her Participants to upskill themselves whilst completing their gap-year program.
On top of that, Chloe is also a Peter Westblade Scholar, a Young Farming Champion, and is heavily involved as a volunteer for the Hay Inc Rural Education Program.

Jackie Elliott is the founder of Rural Women's Day (IG: @ruralwomensday), a not-for-profit initiative aimed at connecting rural and regional women through community, collaboration and celebration. Jackie developed the initiative after moving to Byaduk, in the Western District of Victoria.
The ‘Rural Women’s Day’ brand grew beyond expectation following the inaugural sell out event held in the Southern Grampians on October 15, 2019.
In 2020 ‘Rural Women’s Day’ published a collaborative keepsake magazine to connect with their community during the pandemic, with 700 copies distributed across Australia & New Zealand and the social media community has grown organically with over 12,000 followers.
Jackie was also the recipient of the 2023 Rural Community Leader of the Year award winner at the Farmer of the year awards.

Paris Capell (L: Paris Capell) is a passionate young agricultural professional dedicated to shaping the future of sustainable farming. Born and raised in the heart of the Central Tablelands of NSW, Paris's journey into agriculture began as a fascination into the effects of drought and flood on the land.
After earning studying environmental science, and then a Masters of Science in Agricultural Innovation at ANU, Paris first returned home to work at a carbon farming start up. Paris now works at NSW DPI, assessing what crops and livestock will be most vulnerable to climate change and modelling what climate change adaptations will be effective.
In her spare time, she is Secretary of Central West Young Aggies, loves working with the Country to Canberra team, and helps out with the Orange Show Society. She believes in building networks for young people in regional areas, and hopes to provide young people in agriculture with development opportunities.

After joining a creative agency, she realised many people wanted an individualised social media strategy catering to Agricultural Businesses. That was the beginning of AGSOCIAL. Now their team of 5 specialises in helping Agribusinesses around Australia with their communications. Claudia Bryant (I: @farmlifeplan) grew up near Gunnedah NSW. While studying a Bachelor of Rural Science at UNE she was the recipient of the Russell Harland Memorial Scholarship, which signed her on for 12 months work in Western NSW for Local Land Services based in Broken Hill.
Here she fell in love with rangelands agriculture and working with farmers, particularly in helping them improve their business and pasture management. Over 3 years In this role she had a diverse range of opportunities and experiences that motivated her to seek out how she could become a farmer & business owner for herself.
While investigating she found that support and good advice was limited for people in her position. A big reason for this being the lack of financial literacy and business skills of many in agriculture. This grew her passion for wanting to create a business to improve this and build her dream job.
Farmlifeplan.com was the result. In this role she teaches business and financial literacy skills to young and future farmers wanting to make better decisions with their money to fast track their path towards their dream rural lifestyle. She has big plans for this business and is quitting her job to work on it full time remotely from Africa for 4 months from Oct 2023.

Tom Longmire (T: @longmire_tom) is a grower in Esperance WA and a member of the SEPWA Youth in Ag committee. He has a keen interest in how technology is shaping the future of grains and attracting technical expertise to the industry to develop new capability. Tom attended Marcus Oldham, completing work experience in NSW before returning home to the farm where he plays a key role in business development and ongoing technology growth including currently utilising a Swarmbot. Tom and his father Phil also spend time sharing their journey of boundary mapping and soil amelioration with WeedSmart, GRDC and grower groups around the country. Tom is also an AGLP Grain Growers participant for 2023.

Jamie Stapleton (IG: @jamie_stapleton97) is an Irish working holiday maker who arrived in Australia three months ago to pursue a long-term dream of living down under. In order to obtain a second year visa, backpackers are required to undertake 88 days of regional work, and so, Jamie and three friends are currently undertaking their regional requirement on a dairy farm in North West Tasmania. Jamie started chronicaling his time on-farm with videos and vlogs on Tiktok, with his most recent videos being viewed by more than half a million people.

Matilda Lloyd (IG: @matilda_bailiwicklegal)is a solicitor with Bailiwick Legal, a commercial firm that specialises in Agriculture and Tourism. Matilda grew up in regional WA and was exposed to Agriculture from a young age. During University, her interest Agriculture grew as she became involved with groups such as the RRR Network and the Curtin Agricultural Association as well working on grain bins in WA’s wheatbelt and as a ringer on a cattle station in the Kimberley. Matilda is passionate about rural and regional WA and spends a lot of her time on the road providing legal service to the wheatbelt and great southern part of WA. Prior to finishing University Matilda undertook an internship with Bailiwick Legal where she has remained and been given the opportunity to pursue her passion for Agriculture. In the last 6 months Matilda has specialised in Aboriginal Heritage, and in particular how Aboriginal Heritage Legislation affects landowners and the farming industry.

Flynn Erich (FB: @NSWYoungFarmers), a passionate advocate for agriculture, rural, and regional communities, hails from Tamworth NSW. Despite being considered a "townie," Flynn's profound curiosity for agriculture was ignited during their time at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School.
Following completion of the HSC, Flynn embarked on a diverse career journey. This path led them from working with community-focused magistrates in New England Northwest to bustling Sydney's Downing Centre. During the major lockdowns in Sydney in July 2021, Flynn seized a unique opportunity to work in the Cabinet Office of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, gaining invaluable insights into the decision-making process in the state.
In May of the following year, Flynn found their true calling as a senior policy advisor at NSW Farmers. This role granted them the chance to work closely with remarkable individuals and make a meaningful impact in the agricultural realm. When not immersed in their work, Flynn enjoys cooking inspired by Nigella Bites, going for long walks with sneaky coffee and almond croissant breaks, watching rugby, sharing a beer with friends, and cherishing quality time with family back home in Tamworth, particularly at the dam or on the motorbike.
Driven by their passion for agriculture, politics, and rural Australia, Flynn is resolute in their mission to effect positive change in the industry. With aspirations to transition into politics in the future, they aim to bring about an even greater impact on rural and regional communities.

Jock Binnie IG@Jock.Binnie has been farming full time since he was 16 in Bungeet in northern Victoria and at Merriwagga in the northern Riverina region of New South Wales.
Jock won northern Victoria’s ‘Highest Yield’ and ‘Highest Percentage of Potential Yield’ awards in the Grain Research Development Corporation’s 2020 Hyper Yielding Crops awards for with a 30-hectare crop of Scepter wheat – which produced 7.58 tonnes/ha of grain during 2020.
He is constantly working to optimise practices and improve yields for his family business.

Keiley Noble (L: @keileynoble) is super passionate about supporting the agricultural industry and regional communities. At 27, she wears many hats and holds many roles. She is a mother and a wife, a drought policy officer, a rural marriage celebrant and a key stakeholder in her husband’s agricultural contracting and commodity trading company.
Recently Keiley was named as the winner of the R.M. Williams RAS Rural Achiever Award, making her the 2023 NSW Rural Ambassador. This inspired Keiley to start the Western Rural Connect (I: @westernruralconnect). The Western Rural Connect is a non-for-profit social organisation that is based in Western NSW. The organisations mission is to encourage and enhance social connections within small and rural communities and industries alike, by creating events and facilitating networking opportunities to bring together those who live in, work in and love Western NSW.

Angelica Boyce & Alexandra Long are Solicitors for Rural Lawyer working with Peter Long.
Angelica is a fourth-generation Gunnedah local who completed a Bachelor of Laws through the University of New England whilst working full time alongside Peter as the Managing Law Clerk and managing the staff and practice.
Angelica was recognised for her hard work in 2018 by being awarded the Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Young Employee Award at the Business & Services Awards and she was nominated to represent Gunnedah in the Regional Business & Services Awards.
Angelica is the fourth child of Peter and hopes to stay on with the firm and continue the strong relationships Peter has cultivated with many rural businesses and farming enterprises.
Angelica has relocated to her husband’s family property near Boorowa, NSW where she now runs our Boorowa office.
Alex journeyed to the Northern Territory to work as a contract musterer and stayed on for five years. Whilst mustering, Alex completed her Bachelor of Laws by correspondence.
Alex graduated from UNE in October 2017 and was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of NSW in June 2018.
After working as a solicitor in Tamworth for eighteen months, Alex returned to the family firm to follow in her father’s footsteps. She is passionate about continuing the strong relationships developed by her father in the rural community.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys competing in campdrafts and helping out at the Tamworth and Gunnedah Saleyards.

Sally Poole (L: Sally Poole) is an Agronomist and Digital Ag consultant with 7 years’ experience working in broadacre and cotton production across southern QLD and northern NSW.
Recently, Sally has taken the plunge back into full time study and is currently doing a Master of Philosophy at The University of Sydney. She is researching the use of digital tools to map and understand the interactions between soil water and subsoil constraints, and their influence on crop yield.
Although Sally did not grow up in a farming community, her passion for agriculture and improving global food security has taken her on many adventures around Australia and the world. She is an advocate for sustainable agricultural development, diversity in agriculture, and agricultural innovation.
She has been fortunate enough to participate in many industry programs including being an Australian Grains Future Leader in 2022 where she completed a project looking at the sustainability of grain production in both Australia and Kenya.
Sally is also on the board of Crop Consultants Australia as the communication director where she is passionate about growing connections and knowledge between members, the association, and the wider industry.

Jake Ryan (IG: @three_ryans) farms in Manjimup with his family on their property - 3 Ryans. Jake grew up in Manjimup and attended the local high school before heading to Perth to study a Bachelor of Agribusiness at Curtin University.
Jake has since become one of WA's first growers to adopt several regenerative practices, including strip tillage, diverse pasture species mixes and strip grazing.
He was recently recognised at the Farmer of the Year Awards in 2022 for Excellence in Diversification and was awarded the Corteva Agriscience's Climate Positive Leader award in 2019. Jake is motivated and excited about the future of agriculture and continues to work on regenerative opportunities for himself and his family's business.
Renae Piggott (IG: @renae_kp) comes from a farming background in the northern wheatbelt of WA. She is currently working out of the cattle farm in Bindoon WA. She gets the best of both worlds working as a farm management consultant and part-time hobby farmer.
Her passion for agriculture started from a kid, especially with livestock, and has grown over time as she furthered her knowledge at Murdoch University studying Animal Science. During University Renae took part in the ICMJ competition where she was exposed to all the different careers available in the livestock area other than being a farmer. From this, she took a job with agtech start-up MEQ Probe, moving across Nullarbor to Gundagai, NSW.
After finding her passion for helping Farmers use data to make informed business decisions, she moved back to WA and started working as a Farm Management Consultant with AgAsset. Renae encourages all young people in agriculture to go out and give everything a crack, and make sure you build up a supportive group of people around you.

Jess Cutcliffe (I: @jesscutcliffe) is passionate about agriculture and advocating for young people involved in the ag space. Growing up on a farm near Tamworth, her love for the industry was sparked at a young age.
After attending Yanco Agricultural College, and graduating with a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management at CSU, Jess started as a Rural Officer with Rabobank based in Wagga Wagga. She loves what she does and finds that discussing farm businesses with clients is her “bread and butter”.
In her spare time, she is the Vice President of Riverina Ag Network, an organisation dedicated to stimulating environments for growth in Australian agriculture through networking and professional development opportunities, with a focus on young people who share the love for the ag space.

Brad Egan T: @BradEgan24 operates a broadacre cropping enterprise in Scaddan, about 60km northeast of Esperance, Western Australia. Brad has enthusiastically introduced a range of data analysis tools and science into the farm’s management toolkit, which has impressed many within the industry. He has played a large part in implementing innovative farm management practices into the business; managing all of the Agdata on farm and analysing it to better characterise soils, understand production constraints, and gain valuable insight into their financial position.

A love of agriculture came from a young age for Emily Rabone (L: @EmilyRabone), having grown up on her family’s property in Monto QLD, where they did a little bit of everything – goats, cattle, and cropping. During school, Emily wasn’t exposed to agriculture, having gone to the Glennie School where at the time didn’t have an agricultural class/team and quickly thought during this time that she would pursue another career – a lawyer or a teacher. As it happens, most farm kids get drawn back somehow, so too did Emily when she began showing cattle and working on properties in her holidays. Emily is currently the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Australian Wagyu Association (AWA), a world leader in innovation and delivery for the Wagyu Sector. The AWA holds one of the largest standalone red meat conferences in its annual calendar, as well as hosting international tours and other networking events throughout the year. Emily completed a Bachelor of Agriculture majoring in Animal Production at the University of New England and has since completed a Graduate Certificate in Marketing through RMIT University. Sarah Groat L: @sarah-groat works for Farms of the Future, the biggest government Agtech programme in the Southern Hemisphere, helping farmers adopt Agtech across 3 million hectares.
In 2021, ABC Broken Hill informed Sarah that she had won a campaign against the Far West Gas Proposal, saving underground aquifers the size of Tasmania from hydraulic fracturing.Currently is also finalist for the 2023 Zanda Mcdonald awards.
Sarah is passionate about change-making, being active, and creativity.

Marieke Hoelscher (L: Marieke Hoelscher) is from Jindera, near Albury NSW, where she moved at the age of 6. She was born in Germany where her family has been farming since the 1500s. In 2007, they moved to Australia and her parents bought a small cropping farm, as well as keeping their farm overseas. During year 12, Marieke started becoming more interested in food security and Australia’s rural industries and decided to have a gap year to work in northern Australia. She ended up getting a job at Uluru Camel Tours which started her passion for camels and utilising feral animals in Australia. If rangeland goats are becoming a valuable export commodity, Marieke wonders why can’t we do the same with the millions of feral camels running around our desert? A work placement with Camel Milk NSW in late 2021 further cemented her interest in the emerging industries and the role they can be playing in Australian agriculture’s job of feeding the world, while conserving our landscapes through sustainable Agriculture.
During her time studying a Bachelor of Agriculture at Charles Sturt in Wagga, Marieke received an AgriFutures Horizons Scholarship in 2022 sponsored by the Agrifutures Emerging Industries Program which has been an amazing opportunity to undertake placement with native bees, industrial hemp and insect protein!

Elly Stevens is the Marketing & Sustainability Manager and an active seasonal worker at Croker Grain. Along with this, Elly is involved with her family’s mixed farms across Forbes NSW and Seymour VIC. As part of her AGLP project, Elly will look at ways to champion grower voices relating to exploring the future of the grains industry when it comes to climate change and sustainability.
Maddy Stevens is a Farmer and Vet Nurse, spreading her time between farm and the veterinary clinic, Maddy is extremely passionate about animal welfare and continues to work alongside her family to implement opportunities to continue to have the highest level of welfare on the farm. Rebekah Ash (L: Rebekah Ash) is a young career graduate with a passion for international development, sustainability and education in the agriculture industry. She is currently completing her PhD focusing on socially and economically responsible trajectories towards farms with net-zero emissions. Alongside the PhD, Bek continues to work in enabling early adoption of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions mitigation and carbon sequestration initiatives under the Emissions Reduction Fund with Australia’s leading soil carbon project developer, AgriProve.
Rebekah has been a key youth leader in agriculture over the past 5 years presenting at major events as a plenary speaker including EvokeAg and Global Food Table where she sat on a panel with US Secretary of State John F. Kerry. She is an AgriFutures Horizon Scholar, Crawford Fund Scholar, Westpac Future Leaders Scholar and recipient of prestigious scholarships and awards at The University of Queensland including the 2021 UQ Agriculture Valedictorian.

Jade Miles (I: @black_barn_farm) has spent the past decade advocating for leading approaches to regenerative food production. Now, as the CEO of Sustainable Table, Miles is bringing together key change-makers, who are working to bring regenerative food production to the fore, and find solutions to Australia’s food crisis.
Having fostered a close connection to Australia’s natural environment since her childhood, Miles has worked in roles from teacher to strategist to regenerative fruit farmer, with the ultimate aim of transforming the country’s food production methods.

Chloe Rout’s (IG: @chloe.rout) interest in agriculture and the environment stemmed from helping her parents on the family farm in Gairdner, Western Australia. However, it wasn’t until after she had begun her undergraduate degree at the University of Western Australia in 2019 that she decided to pursue a career in the industry. Specifically, Chloe saw a career in agriculture as a potential avenue to use the knowledge she’d learned during her environmental and agricultural science degree to help growers with some of the challenges her parents had faced while also better caring for the land.
In 2021 Chloe undertook a summer research internship with CSIRO, which focused on exploring the effect of temperature and moisture stress on canola germination. This experience led her to complete her Honours in Agricultural Science in 2022, which explored the compensatory ability of hybrid canola, with the aim of aiding growers with the decision of reseeding. More recently, Chloe had the opportunity to share her Honours research as a finalist in the Young Professionals in Agriculture Forum.
Currently, Chloe is a Graduate Research Agronomist with Living Farm in York WA, where she enjoys working with grower groups and continuing to explore the issue of canola establishment within Western Australian farming systems.

Malkah Lara-Muckenschnabl (L: @malkah-lara-muckenschnabl) is a Relationship Credit Analyst with ANZ. Amy Kirke (IG:@therealamyshark_ OR @sciencetotally) is a marine biologist and fisheries scientist from Darwin, NT who is passionate about marine invertebrates and large marine fish. Her motivation to pursue a career in research particularly in tropical areas, were confirmed whilst studying a summer unit in Coral Bay, WA which is situated on Ningaloo Reef. In particular she is interested in studying shark biology and ecology, and how this information can be used for fisheries management and animal conservation.
Amy is exceptionally passionate about outreach and the Rural Women’s Award helped her turn this passion into a reality and she developed a program targeted at rural and remote schools in the NT. The aim of this program to educate the public about simple fisheries management practices and to learn from people what they know and how they look after the ecosystems they live in or their own country. Amy has turned her outreach into a reality by winning the Agrifutures Rural Women’s Award for the Northern Territory 2020. This has allowed Amy to launch her science outreach project in rural and remote communities of the Northern Territory.

Georgia Elias (TT: @georgiaelias ) is a 21 year old farmer from North West Tasmania. Having grown up on the family farm, Georgia has always believed that farming was going to be for her. When her plans to travel the world were put on hold due to COVID-19, she decided to do something she never thought she'd do, and go to uni to study an Associate Degree in Agribusiness.
Throughout COVID-induced online study, and continuing to find her feet on farm, Georgia decided to start sharing her on-farm activities with TikTok, having amassed a following of more than 55,000 since then. Kayla Weidemann (IG: @kwoo_weid) is a grain and sheep farmer from the Wimmera in Victoria. She's 29 years old, and married with an 8-week-old baby boy. Stefanie Blake (I: @stefanieblake1) was raised on a family dairy farm in South West Victoria before heading off to study at the University of Melbourne. She set out to complete an Arts degree, but ended up transferring into a Bachelor of Agriculture, completing her Law degree as well. After spending some time working in the legal field, Stef returned to Warnambool to start her career in agriculture.
Stef was Relationship Manager at dairy processor, Fonterra, for four years, before commencing at the National Farmers' Federation at the start of this year. Stef is a part of the AgCAREERSTART project team, where she is the Community Engagement Officer. AgCAREERSTART is a Commonwealth funded gap-year program that matches young Australians with full time roles on farm.

We've joined forces with the Southern Rangelands Pastoral Alliance to tell the stories of pastoralists in the region who are innovating to build resilience against drought and other challenges. The WA Southern Rangelands encompass all of the land area south of the Pilbara, excluding the Agricultural Zone of the South West Land Division.
In this final part, we talked to pastoralists as they addressed the challenges associated with running small stock in the Southern Rangelands. First up, we met Gemma Cripps of Gabyon Station, who is utilising Maremma sheep dogs to combat the significant impact of wild dogs in the area. The impact that these dogs have made in such a short period of time is quite astonishing.
And our final stop was to visit the Foulkes-Taylor family at Yuin Station. The four generations living at Yuin Station work together to develop not only their pastoral land, but the community they live in. Ross, Emma, and their family have invested significantly in developing their own dog proof fence to protect their stock.

Lachlan White is currently managing an intensive beef operation outside of scone, After attending Agschool Lachlan new Agriculture was the industry for him heading to university to study agriculture at Sydney University.
During the pandemic Lachlan was introduced to the dairy industry working from the ground up he has developed a passion for sustainability in agriculture with a focus on the dairy. Currently Lachlan is a participant in the Horizon and Cultivate Scholarship completing his honors.

In part two, we chat to pastoralists about the different ways they're regenerating their land. First, we met Toby Nichols at Edah Station, doctor turned pastoralist. Toby and his brother Angus have been completely destocked the last three years as they work to revive the pastures on their historic property.
Our next chat was with Don Maasdorp at Pindabunna Station. Don and his family have spent many hours on a grader looking to slow down the natural flow of water across their property, allowing it to spread further across their landscape. The results are already speaking for themselves!
And finally, we met Jorgen Jensen at Yoweragabbie Station, who has similarly been working on controlling the flow of water across his property, only in a slightly different way. Jorgen shares how he believes that his investment of time and resources now will have a massive impact on the long term viability of the station, and therefore, the community.

A Temora farmer by birth, Sam O’Rafferty’s (T: @SamORafferty1) agricultural journey has been determined by water, and the lack of it. He grew up in the Millenium Drought and for 18 months helped his family cart water from town to support the needs of their mixed farm.
But farming was in Sam’s blood and the drought did not deter him from following agriculture to university. During holidays lack of water once again influenced him when he worked as an irrigation overseer, experiencing extended extreme heat periods, which caused increased water demand for crops and tightened irrigation schedules.
Coming full circle, Sam now works as an irrigation agronomist in the Riverina in a wet year and is seeing 100% water allocations lead to record crops, though he knows the next drought will be just around the corner. “My aim is to continually improve water use efficiency and productivity on farm and help producers adapt to the variability in the climate. This will come through a variety of improvements to on-farm water delivery systems, plant genetics and improved soil management practices.”

Tom McPherson (T: @tommcph) grew up in Canberra and Sydney, where he now lives. He had no connection to farming or rural industries growing up, but gained an interest in agriculture throughout high school and is now studying an undergraduate degree in Science (Agriculture) at Sydney University, majoring in Plant Production and Finance.

Growing up in regional Victoria Australia in a beef farming family, Alison Meagher (I: @butcher.girl.alison) has always been passionate about meat. Working alongside many world-renowned butchers, Alison channels this passion and knowledge to the Australian meat industry.
Having creative love for all food and cooking meant eventually those two worlds had to collide. She has involved in the industry for nearly 20 years, and it all began with my Bachelor of Applied Science (Food Styling) from RMIT University Melbourne. Heading off to London Alison worked in a 150 year-old traditional butcher shop in Holland Park.
She then went to Shanghai, China for six years to become the Promotions and Training Manager for Australian Beef in Asia. She has recently completed Certificate IV in Training and Assessment / Industry Presenter for any extra touch of experience in media opportunities. Bringing butchery back to the world is what Alisojn is all about! As well as getting more women involved in this amazing industry, promoting nose to tail eating and those long forgotten secondary cuts.

Jamie Spence (I: @spenceoid89) describes himself as an amatuer farmer who has been home since harvest 2015, now taking on more succession based management of the family farm. Jamie didn’t attend ag-school or ag-college but has a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science + Conservation Wildlife Biology. He did a brief stint in a Diploma of Secondary Education (Science + Mathematics) but chose not to complete, before going on to earn his Bachelor of Creative Industries in Game Design & Culture, and eventually opting to come back and take on the family farm.
Jamie is the current Chairperson for the local NRM group, North Stirlings Pallinup Natural Resources, which serves as landcare and grower group. He also currently sits as the Vice-President to the rural youth advocacy group AgConnectWA and is a member of the WAFarmers Grains Council for the Stirling Zone.

Georgia Trainor (T: @G_ctrain) currently works at InterGrain as a Territory Manager in the West Australian Wheatbelt. She grew up in Perth but family ties to farming drew her focus to Agriculture from an early age. Since completing her studies at Curtin University’s Muresk Campus, Georgia has spent the past 10 years living and working in rural WA.
Georgia is passionate about increasing on farm productivity and profitability as well as agricultural communities and businesses. She has been involved in a range of areas of the grains industry including research, extension and grain breeding and is proud to be working within the grains industry. She is keen to promote agriculture and agricultural careers to students and those outside of the industry.
For the past year, Georgia has been involved in Grain Growers Australian Grain Leadership Program (AGLP). This leadership program has seen Georgia focus on the influence that personality types have on the decisions made by growers and how people make decisions on farms.

From studying and starting his career through the lens of a traditional pathway into agriculture, Tim has flipped the narrative to open the door to farming practices that honour the animals and the people who choose to eat them. Ben Kelly grew up on a cropping and livestock property near Gulargambone in Central New South Wales and went on to complete a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Newcastle. In 2014 his passion for precision agriculture led him to complete a Graduate Certificate in Precision Agriculture from the University of New England. Ben joined John Deere in 2005 and has spent the last 15 years supporting John Deere customers through various field-based roles. In Ben’s current role, he is responsible for identifying market trends in Australia and New Zealand agriculture for future product development opportunities as well as leading John Deere’s go to market strategies for the Small Grains, Cotton and Sugar Cane Production Systems.
Adam Turner (I: @Springhill_Beef_Co) is a first generation farmer who has recently achieved his goal of transitioning into a fulltime roll within their farming business, Springhill Beef Co. By using regenerative practices focusing on soil, animal and human health, he believes they been able to build a more diverse, resilient, sustainable and profitable business.
Adam's passion is to provide a quality, nutritious, grass-fed and finished branded beef product and provide a direct consumer-farmer link while also improving the land under their management by eliminating synthetic fertilizer and chemical use, planting diverse multi species pastures, improving water infiltration, implementing holistic management and increasing soil carbon.

Joshua (I: @gilbertjoshuam) is a Worimi man, farmer and academic, who shares the narration of Indigenous identity through agricultural truths in light of modern contexts. Josh’s work seeks to connect traditional Aboriginal knowledge and history to current contexts, translating past wisdom and learning to future opportunities. His work combines the old and the new, weaving them together to develop new insights and findings. He is undertaking higher degree research at Charles Sturt University, is the Indigenous Co-Chair of Reconciliation NSW and was recently recognised within the world’s top 50 young gastronomers. He is an entrepreneur and business advisor, working predominantly in the Aboriginal cultural, agricultural and environmental spheres. He has worked with numerous of not for profits, businesses and the government to develop change and bring people on a journey of change. Ruby Canning (I: @mavstarphotography) is a 6th generation beef cattle producer. She grew up in Western Victoria with her family raising Simmental cattle. In 2001, Mavstar Simmentals was established based on genetics from her grandparents' stud, Maverick Simmentals (est 1973). Mavstar Simmentals is owned and operated by her Mum, Dad, her brother Jacob, and her. After attending boarding school at Ballarat Grammar, Ruby went to Lincoln New Zealand as a dual scholar. A severe car accident in the summer of 2017 bought her back home, and after a slow recovery, she transferred to UNE in Armidale. She completed a degree in Business with a major in marketing, and continued to grow her rural photography business – Mavstar Photography. Her work is inspired by her love for the land, whilst understanding and showcasing the way of life that rural people enjoy. Her late grandfather, "Pa", will continue to be a large part of her life and her greatest goal is to continue his legacy in the beef industry. She's had the honour to judge at many shows around Australia, including at Beef Australia in 2021 with her father, and each year her family shows a team of cattle in southern parts of Australia. Ruby is passionate about the sustainability of the beef industry, and helping to educate individuals about the opportunities in agriculture.
Darcey Heffernan (I: @darceyjane_) grew up on her family farm in Beveridge Vic, this is where her love of agriculture and animals began.
She took over the farm at 19 due to her fathers early retirement and did so until the sale closure of the property in February 2022.
After a short break between farms she’s now happily back in full swing on the families new farm in Cathkin Victoria, running terminal herds of Poll Hereford x Black Simmental cattle and first cross sheep.

Travis Parry (I: @travyp19) manages his family’s 1300 acre grazing property, Blair Plains, located near Sarina Range in North Queensland, about an hour south west of Mackay. Travis is a third generation grazier and is undertaking extensive regeneration, diversification and overall long term improvement of their small Breeder cattle and grazing operation. He says he’s taking a broad ranging approach to life by trying to leave a albeit small but lasting legacy of leaving things in a better state than he first found them. This not only reflects his approach to life in a professional working sense but also the lighter side of his life where he’s found a bit of a niche in utilising social media to give people a laugh with some Aussie humour and farm life insights. Helping people smile and laugh is one of Travis’s most favourite things about life and err’s back to his overall goal of leaving things in a better state than he found them.

Sean Torta (I: @sean_torta) is the Head Stockman at Delamere Station, a property owned by Australian Agricultural Company, or AACo. Although he was originally from metropolitan Queensland, Sean was introduced to agriculture through school holidays on his cousin’s farm. He bumped around trying a few different things, before throwing everything in the back of the car and deciding to pursue the itch of being in the North. Starting out his journey as a ringer, he’s worked his way up through the ranks to position today. Sean is passionate about the northern territory and all it has to offer. And this year, his passion has seen him be selected for the Georgina Pastoral Future NTCA program, which he talks about in this episode.

Having grown up in Victoria, Milly made her way to Western Australia to Study a Bachelor of Science - BS, Animal Science and Crop and Pasture Science at Murdoch University. Since then Milly has spent time in Queensland as an Extention Officer, before returning to WA. Currently Milly can be found across the country at a huge amount of Agricultural Events and Workshops. Milly is highly motivated, hardworking person, who performs to the best of her ability in all aspects of life.

At 25, Lachie (IG: lachie_Macgugan) has been shearing for four years, travelling across Australia and through some pretty rough properties lacking basics like running water
Lachie and his family — parents Duncan and Sue, and brother Jamie, 23 — have farms in Victoria’s Western District, running super fine Merinos and cattle over 1390ha on two properties.
He took a gap year, then went to Melbourne and studied events management for a year and spent another year or so working in bars. Realising the regions was his calling to end up back on the land and in the shearing shed on the daily.
Lachie has recently reached his goal of 400 sheep in a day, with the ambitious target this year’s aspiration.

Kathy Gabriel (I: @Kathy_gabriel_) is currently the Manager of Tablelands Pastoral, a Hereford cow calf operation. She runs their High Country property situated in the Tablelands Valley outside of Benambra. Kathy grew up in Yea, Victoria on a hobby farm and fell in love with all things agriculture. After finishing school at boarding school in Hamilton Vic, she set about learning everything she could about the ag industry. Her pursuit for all things ag has led her all around Australia, working in beef, lamb, wool and grain. Kathy has chased wild cattle across far north QLD , thrown fleeces across many of boards around Hay plains, sat at the wheel of a header for harvest in the Wimmera and backgrounded cattle at Werribee Agriculture. She documents all that she does along the way as a keen photographer. Although her career has settled in the high country, were she now owns her very own small beef property with her own herd of Hereford cows, Kathy's life adventure now takes her overseas racing horses in Mongolia this coming July for the second time.

Ellie Daborn (Tk: @Britinthebush) landed in the big smoke of Sydney back in January 2019. She worked 8 months in the city and then because of visa requirements, needed to do 88 days of farm work to stay longer in Australia. She started her time in agriculture at Newcastle Waters as the Nanny for the managers and since then she has made her way around different roles on the station, camp cook, domestic, even some time in the yards but ultimately the kitchen is where Ellie has found her passion.
Ellie started BritintheBush with the intention of sharing a few videos with her friends and family back home, little did she know it would take off the way it has, gaining 40k follows on tiktok in only 2 months.

Meg Kennett (I: @meg_kennet) grew up in Harden, NSW frequently visiting and working on the family farm in Boorowa, NSW After leaving boarding school in 2017, Meg took a gap year contract mustering cattle across 15 different stations around the Northern Territory and Kimberley’s mustering, branding and drafting cattle and loved it so much she came back for a second year.
Growing up on a farm, Meg saw firsthand the effects of drought and the hardships of living on the land in dry time. This sparked her desire to find ways to use resources more efficiently and led to an interest in regenerative farming. Meg reached out to the Hudgins family in Texas, USA, to learn more about how they breed Brahman cattle and to work on an intensive cell grazing operation. After just five weeks of her year-long overseas journey, the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, and Meg had to cut her trip short.
When she returned to Australia, Meg spent some time driving a truck for the development of a local wind farm. Currently Meg is studying at Marcus Oldham after working as a station hand on a 12,000 acre composite sheep and Angus breeding farm in Walcha, NSW, while also undertaking a pasture and sheep management course.

Elizabeth Cameron’s passion for supporting the agriculture industry stemmed from growing up on a sheep station in southern NSW where she still remains highly involved. She has a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree and experience within rural media as the former News Corp Agribusiness Head.

Kate Strong grew up on her family’s farm near Clifton Q and it was through this that Kate developed a strong connection to the land and passion for agriculture. Throughout her schooling, Kate continued to study ag and then headed north for a gap year in the Gulf. After this Kate studied a double degree of agriculture and business through UNE. Meanwhile, Claire Harris grew up in Brisbane, but with country parents and many childhood holidays travelling around rural Aus, she always felt connected to country life. She studied science at UQ and with an honours ag research project and a small journalism internship under her belt, managed to score a job as an ag journalist at SA’s rural weekly newspaper, Stock Journal, at the start of 2019.
The pair have founded Hoedowns For Country Towns (I: @hoedownscountrytowns) – a 20,000km road trip around Australia this year, teaching line dancing in rural communities, raising money for seven amazing rural charities (one in each state they’re travelling through), and putting smiles on the dials of country people right across the nation. The trip is from March to December this year, where they’ll be teaching at already established country events, as well as running their own events in halls, pubs, barns and on red dirt.

Whilst completing her high school studies in Dubbo, Emma used her school holidays to study fashion in Sydney – the first of many courses in this field. Matt Rowlands (I: @rowlandsmatt) was born in the Mallee region in the winter of 1995, into a family of five and large extended family. His weekends and holidays were spent out of the town of Swan Hill on his grandparents' farms and if not, on a river bank wetting a line. After finishing high school, he left for ag college for 12 months and then decided to get his hands into learning on the job. Matt considers himself lucky to have spent the last 7 years working as a Stock and Station agent between Swan Hill, Bendigo, Mildura, Broken Hill, Packsaddle, Wilcannia, Ivanhoe and Moulamein. Being a Stock and Station Agent has great meaning for Matt, as the 3rd generation agent in his extended family. He says that the industry and people he's met and what he's learnt has and will continue to shape him. Anika Molesworth (T: @AnikaMolesworth) is a farmer, a scientist and a storyteller of a better future. She was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. During her childhood, her parents made the decision to purchase a sheep station near Broken Hill, where Anika was exposed to Agriculture for the first time.
Anika is passionate about resilient rural communities and healthy ecosystems, and she is committed to helping create a sustainable food system. She has a PhD in agriculture and environmental management, She speaks and writes on farming systems of the future, and she strives to design a world where everyone is food secure.
She has won a variety of awards, including Young Farmer of the Year, NSW Young Achiever for Environment and Sustainability, as well as Green Globe Awards Young Sustainability Champion, to name a few. Currently, she sits on the Board of Directors of Farmers for Climate Action, the NSW committee of the Crawford Fund, and is a Governor of WWF-Australia. Brett Hosking (T: @HoskingBrett) is a fifth-generation farmer running a mixed farming business in Quambatook, Victoria. Brett, his wife Jane and their four daughters grow wheat, barley, canola, lentils and field peas as well as run sheep and cattle. Brett is a grower director, the current Chair of GrainGrowers and has had long-standing involvement across the Australian grains industry.

Laura Bennett(T: @Laura_Aggie)is the Precision Agriculture Manager for Warakirri/Daybreak Cropping. She is based in Esperance Western Australia. Laura grew up on a banana farm on the New South Wales Central Coast, despite originally studying veterinary science she decided to ultimately make the decision to move into a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Charles Sturt University. In her final year of study Laura undertook a three month placement in Western Australia with Warakirri Cropping. She has worked her way up the Warakirri ladder and now overseas the cropping programs of Warakirri which owns and operates over 100,000 hectares of broadacre cropping farms in Victoria, southern & northern New South Wales, southern Queensland and Western Australia.

Dubbo’s Brenden Lydford (I: @universal_livestock) has long known he’s wanted to pursue a career in the beef industry, and it started as fifteen-year-old working nights on the abattoir floor making money to buy his own cattle.
This led to the establishment of Universal Livestock, a small seedstock operation. The agricultural industry has allowed Brenden the opportunity to be exposed to all disciplines along the eastern seaboard of Australia and internationally.
Brenden then committed to excelling at school (St Johns College, Dubbo) and University (Charles Sturt, Wagga Wagga), and today he is one of five grateful participants in the Kilcoy Global Foods (KGF) Future Leaders Graduate Program.
The opportunities from all mentors along Brenden’s journey have fueled the fire for, innovation and knowledge. This has forged Brenden’s personal and professional brand.

Wes Lefroy ( T: @wlefroy4) is an Agricultural Researcher, Public Speaker, Podcaster and member of Rabobank’s global Food & Agri Research team, RaboResearch. To date his work has been centred on Agricultural Land markets and the Farm Inputs sector, which includes Fertilisers, Agrochemicals, Agtechnology and Seed.
His job is to capture the complexities of the market, and translate them into actionable insights, whether it be in the form of a complete strategic review for a corporate client, a kitchen table conversation with a farmer or a widely released research paper.
As a farmer’s son he has always been passionate about agriculture and how we can produce more efficiently. Wanting to broaden and deepen my knowledge of the Agricultural sector, in 2019 he completed a master of Agribusiness whereupon completion, he was awarded Dux of hiscohort.
Wes is currently resides in Sydney and is excited for the future as he continues his journey with RABO.

So we thought we would release a special episode as part of our RRR Network Series ‘Road to Recovery’ with Tom Curnow (T: @TomCurnow10) and Riley Curnow (T: @RileyCurnow), for those of you that aren’t familiar with the Esperance Fires of 2015, The Boys along with their Mum and Sister Emma lost their Dad in the Fires. Kym “Freddie” Curnow was a well known and successful farmer from Scaddan farmer and during this episode we talk to the boys about their experience, making it out the other side and what they have done since the fires, expanding their farming business epically since then. This episode, Lavinia a close friend of the boys asks the hard hitting questions, the boys open up and talk about moments before, after and during the fires and dealing with it all to this day. The fires also saw the loss of the lives of farmhands Thomas Butcher, Anna Winther and Julia Kohrs-Lichte. You can read more on the fires here.
This episode is dedicated to Kym “Freddie” Curnow, a man that everyone has a fond memory of, and who would be extremely proud of where the boys are today.
Elly and Maddy Stevens (I: @sistersinag) are two sisters who grew up in the Far West of NSW, who both have a passion and drive for all things Agriculture. One half of this duo lived and breathed animal welfare and wanted to be a Vet since she was 10 years old. She is now a qualified Vet Technician with a hand in the sheep industry. The younger half had no interest in pursuing a career in Ag and applied for Social Work and Paramedicine after High School, only to end up graduating from an Agribusiness degree, currently playing a role within the grains and livestock industries. This pair are chalk and cheese when it comes to a lot of things, including where within Agriculture they thrive. They both have our individual sectors and knowledge base and they believe this makes them a truly powerful team.

Andrew Baker ( T: @marcusoldham1) was born and raised on a mixed cropping farm in Zimbabwe until 1981, when his parents moved to Hay NSW. With no family farm to go back to, but a great passion for Agriculture and related business, Andrew turned his attention to following a path towards senior agribusiness employment. He went back to university and studied a Bachelor of Business at Charles Sturt, and soon after started a job in the Agribusiness banking.
Over the following years, he also completed a Masters in Agribusiness through The University of Melbourne, this is where he started to develop a passion for education. His strong interest in the education sector saw him jump at the opportunity to join the Marcus Oldham College team. He started at the end of 2005 as Lecturer and knew straight away he was at the right place, and in 2022, Andrew will take over the helm as Principal.

Toni Barton (I: @bartonssmallgoods) was raised on a dairy farm, She had experience with farming and cows but nothing with sheep.Toni had spent the previous 17 years climbing the corporate ladder, in marketing and business management before purchasing a 200 acre property in Victoria. Never having had the responsibility of running a farm, not even been close to a sheep, built a fence, fixed a piece of machinery or considered that mother nature always had the plan A. She began her new adventure. One thing she knew for sure, there was no way she could survive on 200 acres if she followed the traditional farming road map. She flipped the farming model on its head and is now leading the way on farm gate innovation, pricing strategies and distribution channels, long overdue in Australian Agriculture. Launching Bartons Smallgoods just a few years ago, has set a new trajectory for Toni, creating a world first product range of charcuterie made from 100% Australian Lamb.

Hannah Bourke (L: Hannah Bourke) began her role as Speckle Park International’s first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in November 2020, and has brought to the role a wealth of experience in agribusiness – most recently as Genomics Beef Territory Manager with Neogen Australasia.
She is based in Central West NSW and works closely with Speckle Park International’s service provider, Performance Beef Breeders (PBB) in New Zealand, the Speckle Park International Board of Directors, sub-committees, the broader membership, and industry stakeholders.

Rozzie O'Reilly (I: @rozzieoreilly) grew up on a small sheep and cattle enterprise in southern NSW. She completed a Bachelor of Animal Science at the University of New England (UNE) in 2014, and went on to work in the beef feedlot industry for two years following. Rozzie now works for LAMBPRO, Australia’s largest prime lamb seedstock business and has done for the past five years. Her current role is Operations Manager. This involves managing the database for around 7,000 performance recorded stud ewes, coordinating staff and day to day activities for running the business, as well as providing numerous client services. LAMBPRO provides genetics to over 300 lamb producing businesses around the country, and it is expected in 2021 that these clients will produce over 1 million lambs.
Aside from work, Rozzie is a national committee member of the Australian Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association, and she and her husband John, also operate their own livestock business on lease and agistment country. Their goal is to purchase their own farm over the coming years.
Most recently, Rozzie was named a joint winner of the 2021 Zanda McDonald Award.

Ollie Thorne (I: @olliethorne) hails from a farm west of Dubbo NSW, and since school he's spent time working and contracting on farms and stations around NT, WA, SA and NSW.
He dived headfirst into the Live Export Industry a few years ago and hasn't looked back, working as an onboard stockman while studying a Bachelor of Agriculture and Business via distance education from the ocean.
Ollie says he has a “No bullshit approach when it comes to tackling industry issues and looking to bust open comfort zones when it comes to tackling mental health." He's excited for what our generation can bring to the evolution of agriculture globally.

Mitchell East (L: @Mitchell East) is a passionfruit, avocado, cattle and sheep Farmer in the Southern Forests Region of WA with a keen interest in Regenerative agriculture and community development.
They have developed an on farm passionfruit processing facility which has enabled us to utilise 100% of our passionfruit crops, making it a zero waste enterprise, giving us the ability to buy what was normally unsellable fruit from other farmers and give them a return for their waste. Currently working with five other farmers who have also been able to minimise their waste and gain additional returns for their crops. With this processing we have been able to develop new products with other companies such as ciders, wines, cordials, seltzers and ice cream.

Originally from the Kiewa Valley, Vic, Monica Ley (T: @ley_monica) is a 5th generation farmer who currently spends her days as the Livestock Manager at Canowie, a mixed farming operation and home to the Canowie Poll Merino Stud in the Upper South East of SA.
Having worked across a vast range of agricultural systems across three states, Monica found herself at home in grazing livestock production as she has a keen interest in animal health, reproduction and livestock related technologies. Her interest in the attitudes towards reproductive technologies in the livestock sector formed the basis of her Bachelor of Agricultural Science research, and then later investigated the lifetime maternal production of Merino ewes in post-graduate study. After becoming a cattle station manager at 24, Monica battled many challenges of being young and female in an industry where she felt like an outsider and aims to empower those in agriculture who don’t fit the status quo to take up space and find their place in ag.

Flo Kaempf is a grad student at Edith Cowan University Bunbury, completing a Master’s project in Environmental Management. Previously she studied Engineering then I did a PhD in oceanography. Her researcy drifts somewhere between the realm of coastal oceanography, mycology and sustainability assessment.

As a fifth-generation cattle breeder, Jack Laurie (F: Breeder Genetics) has a passion for beef cattle, their breeding and genetics. Owner and operator of Breeder Genetics, which bridges the gap between seedstock cattle producers and the marketplace.

Growing up in Brazil’s semiarid region, drought was a constant presence in Valeria Lima’s (RG: Valeria Lima) life. Being exposed to the devastating impacts of drought on communities meant that Valeria was always fascinated by water and how the essential resource is managed. During her degree in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering at Brazil’s Federal University of the Semiarid Region, Valeria focused on wastewater recycling for irrigation, and her interest in agriculture continued as she began her PhD at UNSW’s UNESCO Centre for Membrane Science and Technology. Today, Valeria works as a researcher for the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in Carnarvon, Western Australia.
With a PhD in environmental engineering, Ben Cole (T: @WideOpenAg) has a passion for start-up and growth companies. He believes that for profit, for purpose enterprises play a vital role in building an equitable economy and healthy planet. Between 2008 and 2013 he founded, managed and sold a profitable, social enterprise – Karibon - in Vietnam. Ben has been a leader in the design and implementation of market-based, water supply and sanitation projects in countries with developing economies, totalling up to A$45 million. Today, Ben is the Managing Director of Wide Open Agriculture, A regenerative food & farming company, engaged in the development and marketing of delicious, healthy, and sustainably produced through its farmland portfolio and Dirty Clean FoodTM brand.

Lawson Harper (I: @lawson_harper766) grew up on a holistically managed and planned grazed cattle farm in Dandaragan and spent time on his family’s cattle station 3hrs west of Wiluna.
He was in the first cohort of the new Associate Degree in Agribusiness offered by Curtin University at Muresk Institute, and has since started a Bachelor of Science in Regenerative Agriculture through Southern Cross University. And as if full time study wasn’t enough, Lawson is also working as the Head Stockman at Cheela Plains, a station in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Aside from his cows, Lawson also loves sharing his passion for agriculture with other youth through his roles with the Muresk Student Association, the AgConnect WA Committee, and as an Ambassador in schools.

Luke Wheat (F: Future Green Solutions Australia) is the Managing Director of Future Green Solutions, a Perth-based locally owned and operated company, currently commercializing the process of farming black soldier flies. Katarina Doughty (L: Katarina Helena Doughty) is a PhD student at the University of Western Australia whose research focuses on transforming our current global food systems from a linear, grow – eat – discard, model to a circular model that sees waste as a resource that we can harness. This research tackles global concerns about feeding a growing population, reducing global food waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conserving our waterways and aquatic ecosystems by reducing our reliance on wild caught fish, both as food for us and feed for our farmed fish.

James Williamson looks after Marketing and Sales at Latitude 28 and brings over 10 years of China focused trade and investment experience to the L28 team. He has extensive Chinese and South East Asian Networks and has studied in both Australia and China holding a Bachelor of Marketing from Curtin University.

Growing up in Perth but being fortunate enough to experience agricultural life through a farm in Esperance, Guy Coleman (T: @GeezaColeman) is passionate about agriculture and the diverse and impactful opportunities in the industry. Guy is a currently a PhD Student at the University of Sydney bringing together machine learning, weeds and site-specific weed control, trying to work out how plants interact with detection performance. He has also worked on alternative methods of weed control like lasers and developing robots for targeted weed control delivery in ginger crops. Guy is based at Texas A&M University in College Station until December 2021 for a Fulbright Scholarship.
During his undergraduate studies Guy founded AgriEducate, helping people understand the array of opportunities in agriculture in the same way he had done through his own change from a career path in medicine to one in agriculture. Guy has also served on the Board of the Ag Institute Australia, on the Agrifutures Ignite Panel, as an Ambassador for ThoughtForFood and attended the Bayer Youth Ag Summit in 2019.

Dr Bede Mickan is microbial generalist (more on that later), based out of the University of Western Australia. After dropping out of school in year 11, Bede went on to complete a Bachelors degree, followed by a Masters and a PhD. Bede finished his PhD in 2016 and went straight into the position of research and development manager for Richgro garden products, and has brought scientific understanding to commercialisation at a national level. Darcy Robinson is a 21 year old entrepreneurial farmer who is better known by the Instagram handle, @darcy_rob. Darcy founded Instagram page “Farming Ag Photos” at age of 15, which grew to a mass following of over 600K. Darcy is currently running his own contracting business in Clunes, VIC and hopes to continue to expand the business in 2021 and purchase more land. First up, Lavinia spoke to Professor Michelle Colgrave, Future Protein lead at the CSIRO, based at the Queensland Biosciences Precinct in Brisbane. Prof Colgrave is using mass spectrometry (MS) and proteomics to help identify key proteins that will benefit Australia's livestock and plant industries and improve human health.
And after that, you’ll hear Kayla's interview with Dr Bryan Lessard (AKA. Bry the Fly Guy) who works as a Postdoctoral Fellow at CSIRO’s Australian National Insect Collection, researching the evolution and classification of soldier flies.

Back in 2017, Kirt Hainzer was a Crawford Fund conference scholar from Central Queensland University. Kirt’s pathway to agriculture development is arguably not the norm. He started with a Bachelor of Finance in Leeds, years as a management consultant in Scotland before 10 years in Asia, Europe and the Americas in agriculture development, agriculture research and as a farmer. Through that he completed an MSc in Agroecology from Wageningen University and finds himself now as a Senior Researcher with CQU working on an ACIAR funded project to develop market chains for sweet potato farmers in Papua New Guinea.

Dr Kate Burke (T: @Think_Agri) is an agri-strategist with specialist knowledge in corporate farming, crop production and direct investment in farmland. Kate is a mentor, coach, speaker, facilitator, author, and trainer who recently published Crops People Money and You, The Art of Excellent Farming and Better Returns. Kate helps leaders either side of the farm gate, gain insights for better commercial outcomes, underpinned by people and productivity, and profit.

Farming in the northern west Wimmera region with his parents Ewan and Sharon, wife Chelsey, and daughter Alexandra, Mark Merrett (I: @merrett_contracting) runs a 7000 acre mixed operation with about 2000 breeding ewes and 2000 acres of crop as well as doing some contract seeding and windrowing.
At the onset of the pandemic in 2020 with panic buying in full swing, Mark was unsettled that people seemed to think that their food was going to run out. Inspired by some American farmers doing similar things, he set himself up making Vlogs (video logs) of day to day life on the farm to show people where and how their food is produced in Australia.
His YouTube channel has just passed 4000 subscribers, and was recently featured in national media such as The Project.His plan is to just keep making videos of us farming and see where it can take them!

Since establishing Hemp Farms Australia in 2013, Lauchlan Grout (I: @hempfarmsaustralia) has been apart of building Australia’s budding industrial cannabis industry in almost every facet of the supply chain.
Whilst at it’s core, Lauchlan has primarily focused on the primary production and genetic IP of industrial cannabis with Hemp Farms Australia and now more recently MaGenetik. Along the way, he built Australia’s first hemp based pet food brand ‘Therabis’ & one of Australia’s only HPP hemp milks sourced from local growers called ‘MaMilk’.
Lauchlan has had the privilege of travelling the world and presenting his agricultural findings to International research groups and industry conferences. Throughout this time, Lauchlan has completed studies in hemp agronomy, genetic sequencing and bioinformatics.

Maree Bouterakos is a Dietitian from Melbourne, Australia with eight years’ experience in international development, academic and clinical settings across the Asia-Pacific region. Currently, Maree is the Head of Nutrition for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Laos. Prior to joining WFP Laos, Maree worked in Italy at WFP Headquarters, and previously with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Italy and Sri Lanka. Maree has been involved in several nutrition-sensitive agriculture programmes, focused on improving the nutrition status of women of reproductive age (15-49 years), children and adolescents. Maree has a keen interest to explore the gaps in evidence on agriculture’s contribution to nutrition and food security through nutrition programmes in the Asia-Pacific region.

Caitlin Radford (I: @caitlin_radford) is a fifth generation Farmer from Moriarty on the North West Coast of Tasmania and the first female farmer in her family. In 2020 she was named the Australian Apprentice of the Year across all industries after completing her Cert III in Agriculture as an apprentice on farm with her father Shane. After starting CO Agriculture Pty Ltd with her partner Owen she now share-farms with her grandfather Reuben and is looking forward to one day running her own farm and heading into renting the farm soon.
Since the award Caitlin has had the opportunity to promote Agriculture to many groups including Rotary Clubs, high schools, TasTafe students and the like. She enjoys giving back to her community by being involved with these roles and is driven to be a role model for other young women and young people in Agriculture.

Elizabeth Brennan (T: @amoeaba) has facilitated a number of community and agricultural development programs and fresh produce marketing strategies in her home WA Wheatbelt region, across Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG). She currently coordinates a multidisciplinary agricultural research program in PNG on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). Elizabeth has also led the marketing strategy development and implementation for one of the largest citrus operations in WA, Moora Citrus, as well as other international fresh produce brands such as Bravo Apples™, Family Tree Farms and Fruitico.

Zach Whale (T @zachwhale) manages Grain Growers’ policy and advocacy efforts working to ensure the right policy settings for Australia’s grain growers. Previously, Zach has worked for the Department of Agriculture and most recently was the Grains Policy Director at AgForce Queensland Farmers. He has qualifications in International Relations and Public Policy and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Zoie Jones (T: @zoie_jones) started her journalism career at the ABC’s Triple J in Melbourne. Little did she know that her career path would lead her to villages in Darfur, the desert border crossing between Egypt and Sudan, Nepal after the 2015 earthquake, Rome and many places in between. These days, Zoie works in communications for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Luke De Laeter (I: @Buzz_ed_Australia) is a qualified beekeeper who is sharing his passion of bees and biodiversity. In 2020, he was lucky enough to win the Beazley Medal VET and the Australian Meeting of Young Beekeepers.
Luke's goal is to share his knowledge and inspire others - he believes that bee education is essential for understanding the important link between bees and our sustainable future. He wants to encourage the next generation to consider beekeeping as a career pathway.
His bee obsession began when he was given a small hive for his 14th birthday. With an oversupply of honey, and requests to speak to children about his passion, he set up his business, Luke’s Bees. This allowed him to sell honey and present “Bee Incursions” to schools, festivals and community groups. Over the last four years, he has shared his passion in over 100 locations to more than 10,000 children, teenagers and adults. In 2021, he relaunched his business as Buzz Ed Australia to include an online incursion program.

Guillaume Jourdain (e: guillaume@bilberry.io) is the co-founder and CEO of Bilberry (W: bilberry.io), a French startup that develops Green on Green camera systems to spray herbicides only on the weeds. Born and raised in Paris, trained as an engineer, he was eager to create a company that would help tackle important issues while using state of the art technology. It happened to be agriculture and artificial intelligence.
Bilberry was created in 2016 and develops embedded cameras, fitted on sprayers, that spray only where it is needed. The company is now leading the Green on Green revolution, with 30+ patents, sprayers equipped in 7 countries and a new office in Perth (actively hiring!).

Ben Cavanagh (IG: @ben_cavanagh_) grew up on a broadacre cropping and livestock property just South of Perth in Quindanning, W.A. After heading to Bunbury for Highschool, he went to Perth and studied Agribusiness at Curtin University.
A couple of days after graduating in 2019, Ben left for the North taking a job as a Farm and Irrigation Supervisor at Pardoo Station with a focus on Cattle Fodder Production under Pivot Irrigation.
After a very unpredictable year with COVID, Ben made the decision to move further north where he is currently working out of Kununurra, 15 km’s from the Northern Territory Border working for Kimberley Agricultural Investment as an Operations Supervisor. The property focuses on Cotton and Corn production with flood irrigation.

Andy (I: @big_farmer_andy) is a third generation dairy farmer, with dairy farming roots dating back centuries in Holland and Aus. He starting using TikTok to bridge the divide between city and rural people, with the intention of teaching the curious and correcting those who spread misinformation! Over the past two years, Andy has accumulated a following of 200k people and he doesn't back down from challenging those with opposing views in his unique, humorous way.

Anneliese Austin is an environmental science graduate from Southern Cross University who is currently working with Bees for Sustainable Livelihoods, conducting her PhD research on gender equity in beekeeping in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Fiji. She was motivated to pursue a career in agricultural research for development after being offered an opportunity as an undergraduate student to be a part of an ongoing Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) project. This ongoing project aims to support rural smallholder beekeepers, government, and development agencies to create more sustainable, equitable, productive, and profitable Pacific honey bee industries. Her main advice to anyone who wants to be involved in agricultural research for development is “Go for it! Take every opportunity you can and try to surround yourself with like-minded people who share your passion.”

Originally from Kempsey, NSW, Josie Clarke (I: @Ability_Agriculture) works in crop research, her Dad been in a wheelchair since sheI was 5 years old.
She noticed there isn’t particularly a voice in agriculture for those with disabilities. She’d been chatting to her dad about how there wasn’t really a platform for people who are involved in the agricultural industry that have a disability to share information.
And that's what she aims to do with Ability Agriculture. An online group to share stories and create a community for not only rural Australians that have a disability (physical, intellectual etc) but also carers, family members, health professionals, agribusinesses or anyone with an innovation making Agriculture more accessible for those with a disability.
She is looking forward to shining a light on some inspiring Aussies and giving a voice to those with a disability that want to create a more inclusive agricultural industry.

Having spent 10 years working in the film industry, Tom Martin (F: @FarmerTomUK) returned home to the family farm, a regereative, predominantly arable holding in Cambridgeshire focusing on wheat, OSR, barley, and beans, as well as fattening sheep on grass. Tom has a passion for farming, and especially in sharing what happens ‘behind the farm gate’, which has led him to become involved in the CLA, NFU, and LEAF, as well as writing monthly in local publications and hosting a well-supported presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as ‘Farmer Tom’. Tom is a confident speaker, addressing groups such as Young Farmer Clubs, livestock societies, community organisations, and groups across the globe.
In 2016 Tom launched the successful #FarmerTime initiative linking farmers to classes for regular video calls, and the project now has c.600 farmers in the UK connecting classes representing c.18,000 children with food, farming, and rural life. The project also operates in Finland, Ireland, Sweden, Australia, and is piloting in USA. Life outside farming sees a range of passions including counselling, church, a recently established orchard, and exploring the British Isles with his wife, Lisa.

Alexander Chuck (I: @alikachuck), a Chapman University graduate, is cofounder and chief financial officer of Pharm Robotics, a startup that's developing a $300,000 robot to handle injections for the dairy industry. His cofounder is a long-time dairy farmer. The company's system, called Sureshot, automates the shot-delivery process for cows to achieve 100% accuracy with injections of both vaccines and reproductive hormones. That automation, Chuck believes, will increase herd performance and decrease labor costs. Pharm Robotics plans to launch an equity crowdfunding campaign this winter in partnership with Dairy Farmers of America in hopes of selling its first units in 2021.

Kayla is passionate about food systems and agrarian livelihoods, with a particular focus on the dynamics of how food is produced and consumed in different context. Drawing on an anthropological background, she is interested in people and community experiences. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Archaeology/Anthropology) and a Masters of Development Studies (with Excellence) where she completed research into Fairtrade coffee co-operatives in Indonesia. She currently works at the Institute for Global Development at the University of NSW. Originating from rural Victoria, Jessica Wallace (T: WAFarmersGrains) has a diverse background working across multiple industries including media, public relations and publications, financial services, and Australian agriculture. A dedicated and proud advocate for all things Ag related, Jess devotes her time to agricultural policy formation, representing farmers and industry issues through strategic policy formation beginning from the grassroots, and liaising across all levels of government, and with multiple industry stakeholders. Starting with WAFarmers in 2018, she is the Executive Manager of Policy, Advocacy and Engagement, holding the grains and livestock policy portfolios, as well as managing media, communications and events for the organisation.
As a third generation farmer on their family property, Jock Barnett's (I: @j_c_barnett) biggest focus is creating a profitable and sustainable farming operation for the future. With Climate Change and social license threatening to change the way that we farm, he is keen to find solutions to being profitable and sustainable at the same time!
After graduating uni with a bachelor of Economics, Jock worked in the beef industry for several years before returning to the family farm, where they have a mixture of cropping and beef cattle. After managing to survive the last few years of drought, his next frontiers will involve negotiating a succession plan for their business and improving soil health to (hopefully) improve their productivity.

Jordan Sprigg is based in country Western Australia. Sprigg uses recycled metals found from retired machinery, scrap heaps and clearance sales. Some of the pieces found date over 100 years old and were used by the earliest settlers of Western Australia. The objects he produces range from dragonflies, owls and seahorses, to larger scale sharks, eagles and even horses. The scrap iron sculptures are purposely left in their rusted state to highlight the age of the metal and the history of each piece. From springs, gears, bearings and nuts to bolts, shovels, pliers and saws, the list is endless as to what the artist makes use of in his work. Understanding and appreciation of these timeworn parts of a past life allows space for creation of a new life in their current composition. Lach McClymont (I: @lach_mcclymont_88) is a stockman working on a station in the Kimberley Over the last 10 year he has been working in the beef Industry as a ringer, contractor and bull catcher, Some of you might know him from ABC’s show Outback Ringer, where Lach took a camera behind the scenes to show viewers exactly what it is like to be in the tough top end country.
Inspired by her experiences as a part-time carer for her disabled father as a result of his life’s work in agriculture, Alex Thomas (IG: @plantaseedforsafety) is the Founder of the globally acclaimed #PlantASeedForSafety Project and is a fierce advocate for the health, safety and wellbeing of those in rural industries and communities.
With over 14 years’ experience in work health and safety, Alex was a regional winner in the 2020 Syngenta Growth Awards, a finalist in the 2020 Weekly Times Shine Awards, was the 2018 AgriFutures Rural Woman of the Year (South Australia) and the winner of the 2018 SafeWork SA Augusta Zadow Award, amongst many others.
The proud Director and Principal Consultant of her own consulting business, Alex’s core objective is to help her clients re-calibrate the value proposition of work health and safety from ‘box-ticking’ to empowering people, reducing risk, and ultimately preventing people from getting hurt.

There are few things that Ellie Bigwood (IG: @ellie_bigwood) is more passionate about than wool. She grew up surrounded by wool on a sheep and cropping farm near Frankland River in Western Australia, but it wasn’t until she’d studied Animal Science at Murdoch University that she knew a career with Australian livestock was on the cards. At 21 years old, she landed a dream opportunity in the wool industry with Australian Wool Innovation, which took her across Australia, and across the world working in the name of wool. Nearly 3 years on, and having just relocated back to Western Australia, she works to educate woolgrowers, stakeholders, the greater industry and often the general public about what’s happening along the wool supply chain, and most importantly, why wool is the best fibre of all.

Kim Byrnes (I: @kim.byrnes) is a 26 year old Operations Manager of her parents farm 15,000 acre farm based 100kms south west of Moree, New South Wales. She is the eldest of 4 girls. Her family owns a mixed farm enterprise including broad-acre, irrigation and small amount of beef cattle.
Kim has been back on the farm full time for 7 years. She studied agribusiness at Marcus Oldham in 2016. This is the first year they have put in a crop since 2017, due to the Drought. This year, Kim has also been selected to take part in the Cotton Growers Leadership program.

Cameron Stone (LkIn: Cameron Stone) moved to Hobart 2 years ago to follow his partner who had relocated for work. An opportunity came up to complete a PhD at the University of Tasmania focusing on protected cropping in cherries. Prior to moving to the Apple Isle, Cameron was an agronomist in the Yarra Valley for a few years working with a range of growers from orchardists, vineyard managers, vegetable producers and cut flower farmers. He completed the majority of his tertiary education at the University of Melbourne (Bachelor in Environmental Science, Masters in Ag Science) as well as a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary school teaching) at La Trobe University. He found my way into the Ag/Hort industry after 18 months living overseas teaching in London. When Cameron returned, he enrolled in the Ag Science masters degree. There has always been a connection to the industry through his dad who has worked in research and development for a major agricultural company for over 45 years.

23 year old Steven Piacun (I: @piacunfarm_) is a Horticulture Farmer based out of Albany WA. Having grown up in the region on a livestock property, he has been exposed to a variety of different agricultural industries. He is passionate about Regenerative agriculture and good food. Having studied at Denmark Agricultural College he was exposed to a variety of different aspects to ag, completing a certificate in Wool classing and Sustainable Agriculture. At 27, Elle Moyle (I: @elsey_park_farm) bought her first property (and then learnt how to farm). She spent two years renovating a very rundown property while managing 1000 composite ewes and 50 Angus cattle. She graduated as a vet school in 2014 and has worked overseas in the Middle East and USA, and in Australia in private practice throughout South Australia and Northern Queensland. She currently works for the Department of Agriculture Victoria as a District Veterinarian which involves work with local livestock disease, traceability, welfare and emergency response.
While running the farm and working full time as a vet, she is also involved in the family business, Pathfinder Angus Cattle Stud, which sells over 600 bulls annually across Australia. She was also named 2020 Australian Cattle Council Victorian Rising Champion and shortlisted for the 2020 Zanda McDonald Award and shortlisted for the 2020 Nuffield Scholarship.

David Egerton-Warburton (T: @dewmg) is the CEO of Mastergroup who are better known for their very popular agricultural financial software, Agrimaster.
David is a 6th generation farmer and a 2nd generation software developer. He graduated from Muresk Institute for Agriculture with a Bachelor of Business in Agriculture before spending the next 8 years managing the family farm business. In 2000 David, his wife Natalie and his father Kent formed the specialist software company Agrimaster.
David’s mission with Agrimaster is to empower farmers to be successful farm businesses whilst meeting the food needs of the planet. His career today poses a unique challenge; navigating the evolution of a 39-year-old software to remain accessible to rural farm businesses with poor to no internet whilst catering for the demand of online, tech savvy users.

Kendall Galbraith (T: @Kendall_GALB) comes from an international and political research background from both Curtin and Edith Cowan University. Her research was dedicated to countering violent extremism and politics in the social media era. Kendall has an undergraduate degree in International Relations from Curtin and is currently studying her Masters in National Security and Counter Terrorism from CSU where she was included on the Executive Dean’s List for 2017. Kendall has regularly published articles with the Australian Institute for International Affairs and is also a Senior Organiser for the Labor Party where her efforts focus on the political empowerment of Western Australian women. Kendall lives in the south-west with her husband and two young boys.

Emma Moss (I: @life_on_a_station) grew up on a small farm near Pittsworth. She went to The Glennie School in Toowoomba where she graduated in 2015. In March 2016, her mother Sarah, and a very apprehensive Emma commenced the 5500km journey to Nerrima Station in the Kimberley, Western Australia. There, Emma worked as a jillaroo – mustering, fencing, yard work, maintenance etc. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love with the Kimberley. To try and capture the beauty around her, early in the year she bought a second-hand camera from the cook.
In September 2016 she made her Instagram, Life On A Station, which now has over 14.5k followers. Her Instagram has led to an ABC InvisFarmer blog, Rural Weekly and other newspaper articles, a Graziher magazine story and a Landline feature in early 2018.
She is now a student at the University of Queensland, Gatton studying a Bachelor of Sustainable Agriculture. Studying externally and based in Broome.

Phil Larwill (I: @provenirmeat) is a veterinarian, with 30 years experience in livestock and domestic animal medicine and surgery across Australia and the globe, predominantly in Victoria. He co-owned an innovative vet practice in central Victoria, utilising the full spectrum of orthodox and complementary treatment modalities. Seeing the need for better animal welfare and better access for livestock producers to processing, Phil and his wife began researching mobile abattoirs in 2011. He and five co-founders incorporated our business in 2017 and, in June 2019, established the first mobile abattoir service for cattle producers in Australia.

Charleton Glenn (I: @charleton.glenn) grew up on a farm in the southern Riverina of NSW on a mixed cropping farm with Rice, sheep and mixed cereals. Having been in the rice industry her whole life, she wasn’t sure agriculture was the industry for her. But, before she new it she was at the University of Melbourne studying a Bachelor of Ag, before going on to study a Masters in Communications through Charles Sturt.
Currently, Charleton is a Rice Extension Officer 3 days week and a Productivity and Industry Affairs Policy Manager at the Rice Growers’ Association 2 days a week. She is also a founding member of young farmers group, Young Country Networkers. They run events for farmers and ag professionals in Rural NSW.

Tress Walmsley (T: @TressWalmsley) was appointed as the InterGrain CEO in August 2012. Having joined the business at inception, Tress has played an integral role in governance, developing operating systems and building the company’s commercial platform.
Tress has over 15 years of agribusiness experience, along the way gaining a wealth of knowledge in commercial plant breeding operations with a strong understanding of the technical drivers required for success in the grains industry.
Prior to working for InterGrain, Tress spent over ten years with DAFWA in a variety of roles including grains commercialisation officer and TOPCROP State Coordinator. Tress is a member of Barley Australia, Wheat Classification Council and the Grains Industry Association WA wheat committee. In 2015, Tress was the RIRDC Western Australian Rural Woman.

Blake McFarlane (I: @blakeschooksandeggs), 14 of Forest Hill started Blake’s Chooks and Eggs in 2017 as a hobby. In 2019, it became an ethical, sustainable, free-ranging egg farm, with show breeding and winning stock. Blake provides over 200 dozen of eggs to the Great Southern and uses social media to make poultry farming fun and educational. He held his first open day to the Plantagenet Probus Group and explained what he does when it comes to preparing and showing his chooks. Although dyslexic, Blake learns from doing and being mentored. He is about to be in the Little Entrepreneurs section of a book called Little Farmers by Kim Storey.

James Culleton (I: @james_culleton) grew up on a Farm just outside of Williams in Western Australia. After attending boarding school in Perth and not really having a clear direction James started his livestock industry career as a trainee at age 19. In his 12-month traineeship Mr Culleton saw all sides of the company's livestock business - both commercial and stud stock, in locations such as Broome, Bunbury, Katanning and Albany and it was during the latter part of his traineeship that he started auctioneering.
Since finishing his traineeship Mr Culleton has been based at Corrigin for three and half years and last month he moved to Gnowangerup, taking up a new position covering the Gnowangerup, Ongerup and Borden areas.
He is the first representative from WA in six years to be invited to the Australian Livestock & Property Agents Association (ALPA) National Young Auctioneers Competition at Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Caroline Robinson is an advocate for rural communities and the businesses, leaders and organisations within them. She is solutions focused, a creative strategic and broad thinker, bringing networks, services and information that will benefit rural communities and help them to grow.
Based on her family farm in the eastern Wheatbelt, Caroline founded the Wheatbelt Business Network which has since grown into a regional business association with impact.
Caroline has skills in group facilitation and also holds an Australian Institute of Company Directors qualification. She has held board positions on State Government and current positions include the Secretary /Treasurer of the Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry WA and Bendigo Bank Bruce Rock.
Caroline was AgriFutures National and Western Australian Rural Woman of the Year in 2011 and is a passionate advocate for rural Australia.

Calum Watt (T: @Calumwatt12) grew up on a small hobby farm in Harvey, in the southwest of Western Australia. From a young age he developed a passion for plants and agriculture, but it was not until a stint at university that he developed his third passion; genetics.
His passion for genetics, plants and agriculture has since seen him complete almost three university degrees combining them all. He has extensive experience within politics and government having worked as a Senior Policy Adviser for a number of State and Commonwealth government Ministers. Lachie studied a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in Political Science and International relations at The University of Western Australia.
He has also worked in the private sector within the agricultural industry holding mid-tier management roles. Callum Wesley (I: @callum_wesley, T: @callum_wesley) is an innovative farmer, agricultural inventor and rural role model. Callum is currently running his own contracting business along with co-managing his 8,000 hectares with his father and uncle where he has plans to continue to grow and innovate. He always knew Agriculture was his passion but after several years of drought, questioned if going back to the farm would be viable for him.
Callum invented what is called the Wesley Wheel that aims to harvest moisture from inter-row furrows. Callum has an open gate policy and is always willing to trial new things that might help their farming business further including his current trial of long colioptile wheat which is proving very successful.
Callum was also a member of the Western Australian AgConnect Committee, as well as being the 2014 Rural Ambassador of WA and an Innovation Generation Young Leader.

Danielle England (T: @EnglandDanielle) is a recognised leader within Australian agriculture based in the South East of South Australia. She works closely with grower groups, research organisations, private advisors and farm businesses to deliver programs that optimise farm profitability and productivity.
Danielle has been listed in the Emerald 2014 100 Women in Australian Agribusiness, and was the 2013 Western Australian RIRDC Rural Woman of the Year. Both of these awards recognise her outstanding leadership and passion for the Australian agricultural industry. Danielle has managed multiple mixed-farming research and development programs, including Grain and Graze 3, in WA for Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) in cooperation with the Facey Group. Rebecca Barry (I: @raisingourkidsontheland) is a farmer, running a livestock operation with her partner Matt at Apsley, Western Victoria. She's a Mum of two kids, Oliver (3) and Charlotte (1). They're in a unique position of having two farms that are 500km apart: their grazing property at Apsley and Matt’s 4th generation broadacre cropping family farm at Port Broughton, SA on the Northern Yorke Peninsula. They split their time between the two farms, and love being able to raise their kids on the land. They’re passionate about the Ag industry, its people and what we produce.
They’ve been affected by South Australia’s hard border closure, particularly after their Cross Border Permit was cancelled just before they commenced shearing, splitting their family in two and making them decide which farm they could be based at.

The daughter of UK & Irish immigrants Jackie Jarvis (T: @Jarvis_Jackie) (nee Mullins) grew up in in the northern Perth suburb of Wanneroo, where she spent her teenage years working on the vegetable growing “market gardens” during her school holidays. After declaring to her family, that she would “never work in agriculture again” Jackie started her career in the finance industry where she met her husband Matt while they were both working in the South West. The couple relocated back to Perth, both got jobs on St George’s Tce, bought a house in the city with no plans to ever leave. Matt called her in 1996 saying he had been offered a work transfer to Margaret River and Jackie agreed she would go for 2 years. By 1998 the couple had sold their Perth home, had their first baby, planted a vineyard; and Jackie declared she would never return to Perth.
Jackie returned to off-farm work when Ashlee started school and built new career in as an expert in Workforce Development for the Agricultural sector. Her work in the area of attracting resettled refugees to work in agriculture saw her named as the 2014 WA Rural Woman of the Year and National Runner-Up. More recently Jackie has served as a Principal Policy Adviser to the on. Alannah MacTiernan MLC Minister for Regional Development; Agriculture & Food. In November 2017 she took up the role of CEO of the Rural, Regional, Remote Woman’s Network of WA Inc. A role that allowed her to work from home on vineyard, albeit with regular long-distance trips.
And even though she’s not full time in the farm business anymore, Jackie can often be found working in the Jarvis Estate Cellar Door on weekends. She has a love of audio books, generally listened to while driving up and down the Forrest Highway.

Michaela Hendry (T: @MichaelaHendry, I: @michaela_hendry) is a 22 year old young woman on an agricultural mission. She grew up in the small Western Australian farming area of Pingaring, roughly 350kms from Perth. At the age of 12, her parents sold the family farm and moved to the seaside town of Albany where Michaela never really felt settled. She ended up completing her schooling years at a Western Australian College of Agriculture campus before going on to recently complete her Bachelor of Agribusiness at Curtin University.
Michaela's ethos of "just have a crack" has brought her a diverse mix of opportunities and experiences in the ag sector including being a committee member for AgConnect, which lead to a role on the WAFarmers Grains Council, she was an Administrator in the Department of Premier and Cabinet for the Minister for Agriculture and Food, followed by a Project Officer for the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. But the call of the bush was strong, and these days you'll find Michaela working on her uncle's farm on the Wheatbelt, earning her stripes before pursuing a career as an agronomist.

Lauren Bell’s (Fb: Waste Not Food Recycling) journey from Sydney-sider, to station hand to fly-farmer, helps demonstrate that inexperience is no barrier to a rural experience. Also, that there is a diverse range of opportunities for women to contribute to the future of farming in Australia. After completing university in Sydney, a short-term job contract in Darwin launched Lauren into a life based in northern Australia, and eventually a career in beef cattle agriculture on remote stations spanning across northern QLD, NT and WA.
Working in agriculture Lauren developed a passion to partake in the challenge of sustainably feeding a growing global population. It was to this sentiment that Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming appealed. BSF farming replicates natures own nutrient recycling process, using insects to upcycle organic waste into sustainable feed and fertilizer products. Now based in Broome, Lauren is using BSF farming to develop a system of organic waste management that builds the economies of regional and remote communities in Northern Australia, not landfills.

Hugh Dawson (T: @HPJDAWSON, I: @hpjdawson) grew up on a relatively small hobby farm in the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia. He had nothing to do with the live export chain until he decided to partake in a gap year on a cattle station in the Northern Territory after finishing school. Currently he is onto his 5th year working as the Head Stockman on Beetaloo Station. He believes it is crucial for us as young industry representatives to share the story of the live export chain to ensure we can continue to improve animal welfare standards globally.

In November 2018, Kendall Whyte, a 25-year-old woman from the remote country town of Mukinbudin, received the worst news anyone could hear. Her brother, Jayden, had tragically taken his own life while in Sydney.
Inspired by the image of a tree Jayden had once painted on the family farm, Kendall, along with her sister, Erryn, and her brother’s best friend, Simon, created the Blue Tree Project – a platform which would bring together people who have experienced mental health challenges or loss through suicide.
Mainly focusing on young men and rural families, The Blue Tree Project serves as an important visual conversation starter, undermining the stigma attached to mental wellbeing. It also aims to draw attention to the need for change in the medical system, so people like Jayden are taken better care of in times of crisis.

As an agriculture economist she recognised the need for an easy-to-use whole-of-farm business analysis tool to assist with building resilience in the industry. Working with agricultural stakeholders, Lucy designed FARMSMART®. Using their own data farmers can explore alternative scenarios, enterprise mix and seasonal conditions. Lucy’s project will deliver business development workshops using FARMSMART® with a focus on understanding risk and financial outcomes in a complex environment.

Byron Milne grew up on a diverse family farming enterprise in Zimbabwe, Africa. But his family's worst nightmare changed their life, causing them to pack up everything and get on plane to Australia when Byron and his sisters were only young. After leaving school, Byron joined the Australian Army to pursue a career in aviation. But, after a while, he realised that his heart always belonged in the bush. After seven years, Byron quit his budding career in aviation to go back to university to study his life long passion in agriculture.
Now, Byron is starting out as an agronomist with Lamond & Co. in York, Western Australia and has an incredible journey to share.

Elle Fordyce (I: @ellefordyce__) was first exposed to agriculture after visiting a family friend's farm a lot as a child. She then went on to help educate high school students on agriculture which is where she learned she had a real passion for agriculture. Studying Animal Science with a particular interest in Cattle led Elle to Katherine, NT where she’s living the best of both worlds both responsible for reporting and communications as well as getting out onto the research properties to help find solutions for graziers with any issues they might have with their cattle.

Jo Ashworth is a Kalannie girl through and through. Born and raised in the small Western Australian farming town, some 300 k’s from Perth, she grew up on her parent’s farm. Just like most kids in the area, she went off for boarding school in Perth. Jo studied to become a Mechanical engineer, meeting her husband Wal along the way.
As Jo’s three boys grew up, Jo found ways of becoming a really involved member of the community, eventually becoming a manager of the Kalannie Community Resource Centre. But a career challenge with her son caused Jo to start asking questions, and then started down a journey to the Growing Kalannie project, an initiative that saw Jo become a finalist in the 2020 Agrifutures Rural Woman of the Year awards for Western Australia.
As a Mum, Jo works to challenge her own beliefs and be an amazing model for her boys, encouraging them to discover their own paths in life. She’s passionate about changing the status quo, developing community, and in turn, growing the population of Kalannie.

Lucy grew up Batemans Bay on the south coast of NSW and didn’t have an agricultural background but decided she was interested in environmental science and sustainability leading her to study a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Sydney which has only allowed her to grow a tremendous passion for agriculture. Currently Lucy is working as a Relationship Analyst at Rabobank in Esperance WA, previously worked as an Extension and Development Agronomist at Cotton Seed Distributors. Lucy founded Get Agducated (I: @getagducated) in 2019 to be able to show people where their food and fibre come from and the people, processes and jobs behind it all. Really want to bridge the gap between the city and the country so people have a better understanding of agriculture and may consider agricultural careers as a good pathway for them. Lucy is keen on working to grow Get Agducated further to reach as many people as possible to be a really influencing part of that conversation bridging the divide.

Belinda is based on a mixed grain and sheep farming enterprise. Her project is based around Internet of Things, a trial of sheep collars and how the data collected can be used. Her aspirations are to change the way livestock and technology is viewed, which has mainly concentrated around manual handling. Humans have adopted ‘fitbits’ to monitor bodies in real time – could the same be done for livestock?
Belinda's roles have constantly evolved over the last 22 years to accommodate the changes that having a family brings. Belinda is responsible for the partnerships paperwork including all grain marketing but she also loves being in the sheep yards. As a farmer, she constantly battles to reduce the mortality rates, particularly in lambing ewes and weaners. Adopting best practice management tools to prevent mortality has helped improve these rates, however there is still room for further improvement.
Belinda believes the industry is facing a number of challenges as society’s attitudes and perceptions evolve in regards to animal farming and need to accept a certain of responsibility to change with it. Opportunities in using sensors and movement technologies could be the next management tool to take welfare and lamb survival to the next level.

It never ceases to amaze us how much energy the youth of our agriculture industry have here in Australia, and this person is no exception. Matt Champness (I: @mattchampness, T: @MattChampness1) describes himself as an agricultural enthusiast with particular interest in improving the livelihoods of small holder farmers and reaching a world of #zerohunger. His resume is proof that putting yourself out there is the best strategy to finding opportunities in this industry. He is a Crawford Fund Scholar, Charles Sturt University Agricultural Medalist, and a participant in the NFF 2030 Leaders Program, just to name a few. Matt is extremely passionate about food security and believes we all have a part to play in ensuring there is enough safe and nutritious food for the world. Matt has been a volunteer agronomist in Laos for the last 11 months, and we were excited to be able to chat to him earlier this year.

Cultural economic development and independence, social programs and enterprise are of a particular focus A lawyer by profession, having worked primarily in Native Title Law, Cara now focuses her skills as co- founder and executive director of Yum Yum & Delicious Pty Ltd & Peek Consulting. She has worked in regional communities in Australia, Canada and the USA, specializing in stakeholder liaison and engagement, relationship management, corporate social responsibility, program development & project management. Cara is also the recipient of a Churchill Fellowship, and was the 2020 Western Australian winner of the Agrifutures Woman of the Year Award.

Aidan Connolly joined Cainthus as CEO in January 2019 but is often referred to as the fourth founder given his involvement with the company since its inception. Prior to this, he held the position of CIO at Alltech, a company which he worked with for 25+ years. Aidan has worked in over 100 countries and speaks five languages. Pardoo Beef Corporation was formed to purchase Pardoo Station, in WA’s Pilbara region in 2015. The station forms the epicenter of a vision for the first purebred Wagyu community in Western Australia’s northwest. George Stacey is a 26 year old Queenslander with a blood-deep passion for agriculture. Growing up on a cattle station in North West Queensland, he developed a passion for the land at a young age. After heading down to Brisbane for boarding school, he tried (unsuccessfully) to taste other careers and wound up back in ag again. Maddison is a research scientist within the Plant Industries Development branch of the Northern Territory Department of Primary Industry and Resources. She studies the impact of climate change on mango flowering in Northern Territory production regions.
Her other studies identify best practice management for Australia’s mango industry and examine the dependency of mango flowering on temperature. She has previously studied fruit quality control throughout export supply chains in both Australia and Cambodia.
Maddison is an advocate for sustainable agricultural practices that empower communities, improve nutritional diversity and preserve natural resources. She is passionate about the communication of science, empowering youth in agriculture and the role of agriculture in sustainable development.

Hayley Dawson is a naturopath with a passion for the bush. Her clients and followers know her as The Rural Naturopath (@theruralnaturopath). Hayley was born and raised in the country, and continues to work with the people in her regional community to this day. She loves to teach her clients about the importance of a healthy diet in overall wellbeing and provides tips for everyone on her blog.
But that's not all! Alongside her practice, Hayley also mentors small rural business owners, and she has just started her own podcast: The Rural Wellness Podcast.

Jen grew up on a family farm in Broomehill. After studying agricultural science at the university of WA, like so many of her peers, began her professional career with the department of Agriculture as a soil scientist in Katanning. At the end of her five year contract, Jen took up a job as a Landcare coordinator working for the Shire of Kojonup. Jen took this position in part because of her love of animals and the environment, but also to be closer to her now husband Rob who farms in Kojonup.
Jen was very successful in the role and coordinated many large revegetation and refencing projects, sourcing the seed for these projects from a seed picker named Keith. At the end of the project Keith gave Jen a small bag of everlasting seed and mentioned that no one grows this iconic West Australian seed in Australia. Jen took the seed and along with her husband Rob, grew and harvested the seed successfully. Their first daughter Lucinda was born shortly after and the business of Lucinda’s Everlastings began.
Jen was diagnosed with MS around the same time as founding the everlasting business, but has managed to tackle life relatively unaffected by the disease, by she thinks, having a positive attitude.
Jen now farms with her husband Rob and daughters Lucinda and Zara.

Most people would know Mick Gould (@mick_gould86) as the lovable larrikin from the 2019 season of popular TV show, Married at First Sight. But there's more to Mick than meets the eye. He's grown a strong passion for agriculture since purchasing his own 11 acres in Gympie, QLD. He shares this passion with his 160,000 Instagram followers, getting involved with the Green Shirts Movement and the Rural Aid campaign.
Mick believes there's nothing better than living in a small community, heading around to the neighbours' in the afternoon with a cold stubby of beer and a fresh roast lamb.

Growing up on the beaches of the Gold Coast, Jamie’s childhood dream was to be a vet. Despite the 23 year-old’s father wanting her to be a violinist, she moved across the country to Perth to pursue her dream, studying Animal Science and Animal Health at Murdoch University. Here she unexpectedly fell in love with the agricultural industry, in particular sheep. She slowly immersed myself in the industry, but things really changed when she won the LambEx Young Guns competition in 2018.
Since then, she has been abroad and interstate thanks to agriculture. Soon to be moving to Canberra to work for the Department of Agriculture, she’s thrilled to be continuing to explore the industry and help bridge the gap between city and country.

James or “Jimmy” Bidstrup is a 22 year-old agronomist currently living and working in the Esperance Port Zone of Western Australia. A passionate agriculturalist, Jimmy wasn’t born into agriculture, but got hooked when he was very young. After exploring agriculture in his school classroom, he made the decision to attend the Western Australian College of Agriculture at Denmark, before heading on to complete his studies in Agricultural Science at the University of Western Australia.
From there, his career has gone from strength to strength, with his most recent accomplishment becoming a Future Young Leader at the 2019 evokeAg Conference alongside previous podcast guest, Callan Daley. Jimmy is passionate about bridging the urban-rural divide and believes agriculture is the best industry in the world to work.

Kate McBride is a fifth-generation grazier from Western NSW. She was born and brought up on Tolarno Station, a 500,000-acre sheep property located along the Lower Darling river. Since 2016 when she became a Healthy River Ambassador, Kate has worked with people from all walks of life fighting for better water management within the Murray Darling Basin. In 2017 Kate was elected by fellow landholders onto the Western Local Land Services board becoming the youngest board member in the organisation’s history. Kate is passionate about rural Australia but has seen the damage the current drought and poor water management is causing to local townships.
Earlier this year Kate filmed the viral video of her father and family friend holding dead Murray Cod during Menindee's mass fish kills. She has become a familiar face in the fight for a healthy Darling River and Menindee Lakes and had been interviewed for a number of programs including as a guest expert on Q&A, and being featured on Australian Story ‘Cry me a river’.

Sam Marwood is a community driven problem solver from central Victoria who is redefining the farming and agriculture industry. With a background in environmental science and social entrepreneurship Sam spent his early years as a policy advisor to the Victorian Government before connecting to his roots- farming and all things the environment.
In 2016 Sam recognised an emerging farming problem. Retiring farmers were simply selling off vast amounts of property and with it a deep understanding of farming. All the while young aspiring farmers found it near impossible to acquire the capital and acute knowledge to begin a new generation of farmers. Answer: Cultivate Farms. Cultivate Farms is a social enterprise which matches the best next generation aspiring farmers with retiring farmers and investors to own and operate a farm of their very own. They promote to all Australian's that being a farmer is not only possible now, but the career of choice.

Tom Curnow is a 22 year old independent farmer from Scaddan, Western Australia. In 2015, there was a series of Esperance bushfires burning from 15 to 26 November. One of these fires burnt over 128,000 hectares (320,000 acres). On the 17 November during these fires most of the Scaddan Communities Farmers were burnt, including almost all of Tom’s Families Property and our own as well as almost all of our other friends and family from this area. During this day tragically the fire took four peoples life including Freddy Kym Curnow, Tom’s Father. As of 2016, the Cascades/Scaddan fire was equally the worst bushfire in Western Australia in terms of human fatalities along with the Willow Springs/Nannup fire of January 1958. During and after the fires Tom experienced a series of events that lead him to ultimately single handily run a 6000 acre cropping program with the support of his uncles and twin brother Riley.

The Livestock Collective has been created in an effort to improve transparency along the sheep and cattle live export trades’ supply chains amid the rising animal activism movement. The Livestock Collective is a collaboration of exporters, importers, industry bodies and producers. It’s about showing the care given to sheep in the live export process.
In today's episode, we chat to Holly Ludeman and John Cunnington, two of The Livestock Collective's directors. Holly Ludeman is an experienced livestock export industry professional, working in compliance and welfare roles. The live trade allows Holly to combine her veterinary qualifications with her passion for high animal welfare standards and working with livestock. John Cunnington is the Chairman of the West Australian Livestock Exporters' Association and Business Development Manager at Halleen Australasian Livestock Traders Pty Ltd. Mr Cunnington holds a Masters of International Business and Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Finance).

Aimee was raised on an irrigation farm in the southern Riverina where she is based today. When she returned home to the family farm, after working in accounting and irrigation, she discovered LEGO® photography online and so began the adventures of one LEGO® Farmer (@littlebrickpast). Aimee holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management, and works as a freelancer in ag communications speciallising in Social Media, as well as working in events, career outreach and in the country show movement. The flexibility of remote work allows Aimee to pursue her passion for celebrating Australian agriculture, and reliving her childhood playing with LEGO® and creating farm scenes.

Bec grew up on a farm in Kojonup, in regional Western Australia and has worked in film and media for twelve years, most recently at the ABC (Sydney) as Partnership Executive. She produced the exciting, new female series ‘600 Bottles of Wine’ which premiered on the BBC (UK) and also has multiple performance credits in stage, film and Television. In 2018 Bec was named in Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence and she’s currently participating in the Australian Rural Leadership Program, as sponsored by Telstra.
Bec is also the Associate Producer for the Visible Farmer. The Visible Farmer film project is criss-crossing the country to discover the untold stories of the gutsy women behind our food and fibre, and the vital, innovative role they play. From remote outback stations to urban market gardens, it’s a journey that will change our perception of who a farmer is.
And as if that wasn't enough, she is also writing, producing and acting in the upcoming web film series, "Raindance", which will shine a spotlight on regional Australia.

Inaya grew up on a family farm in the Wheatbelt and moved to Esperance, WA when she was a teenager. She has always loved agriculture and is currently studying a Bachelor of Agriculture through the University of New England. She studies via correspondence while working locally in the industry. Inaya’s Dad (Ross) and sister (Amelia) were a part of the first Farmers Across Borders hay run in 2014, so she jumped at the chance to be a part of the 2019 run. She is now the co-secretary of Farmers Across Borders and loves the role. Her favourite part of the hay runs is knowing that she can help those who need it, even if they don’t want to ask. Farmers Across Borders – Hay from WA, is a group of farmers from Western Australia aiming to help farmers who have been affected by drought and other natural disasters. Following a successful trip to Bourke NSW in 2014, a call was made to do another run in September 2018 and so plans were started. On Australia Day 2019, 47 road trains rolled their way into Cobar, NSW. All hay was donated by generous West Aussie farmers, all eager to help their eastern state neighbours still struggling in drought. Many know Callan Daley from his compelling presentation at evokeAg 2019. Callan is a 21 year old, passionate about dispelling the negative perceptions around pursuing agriculture as a career. He grew up on a beef station in central Queensland, 100km North-West of Longreach before attending boarding school in Brisbane, and going on to take a gap year on a crop and cattle station outside of Goondiwindi.
He commenced studies in engineering and biotechnology before evokeAg changed his life. He now works with ag tech start-up MEQ Probe, developing technology used in testing red meat eating quality.
