Each episode, Jeff LaFortune takes a spellbinding topic from history or scripture and energetically shares the best of what he's found. No topic is off limits. From deathbed conversions to King David and Bathsheba, its all delivered to you with a dash of absurdity and fun. All in hopes of sharing truth and planting a seed of inspiration. It's time to ask questions. It's time to dig into The Seed.
Many people know who God aka Yahweh is, but who is Baal?
Today we are going to learn all about this Canaanite deity: his names, his family, his disgustingly gross love life, his weird mythology, weapons and his powers. We also are going to look at what it meant to worship Baal and the literal terrifying sacrifices it required. Do you know what sympathetic magic is? I didn’t either… but apparently Baals followers are all about it.
Then we will see who is the strongest between Yahweh and Baal.
Spoiler alert: It's God.

In the winter of 1925, a deadly outbreak of diphtheria in the remote port of Nome, Alaska, threatened the lives of the 10,000-plus living in the area. Children were especially at risk, and Nome’s isolation created a nightmare scenario. An antitoxin was located, but the nearest point which the serum could reach by rail was Nenana, located 674 miles from Nome. With a blizzard approaching, air travel was ruled out. Officials determined that the only way to deliver the serum in time was via sled dog teams.
A relay of 20 teams was assembled, including that of Leonhard Seppala, Alaska’s most venerated musher. Amazingly, in just five and a half days, the “Great Race of Mercy” was completed and the lifesaving serum was delivered to Nome. While the lead dog of the 53-mile final leg, Balto, would become famous for his role in the run, many argue that it was Seppala and his Siberian Husky lead dog, Togo, who were the true saviors of the day. All told, the 12-year-old Togo and Seppala traversed an astounding 261 miles, compared to an average of 31 miles each for the other teams.
Did the medicine make it to its final location? Why is a dog named Togo considered the unsung hero of the story? How long can a human survive in -50 degree temperatures and how much lower did the temperatures actually get? Dear Lord, give them strength!
Find out all this and more as we cover the true story behind this Great Race of Mercy and the dog sled team that covered more ground than most could imagine possible.

A growing number of people around the world have come to believe that Christmas originated from various pagan traditions. I mean it would be hard not to think the same with all the rumors floating around the world’s office water cooler I call the internet. Some of the more popular scuttlebuds are that the timing of Christmas may have been borrowed from Roman sun god worship, another is that Christmas trees come from Germanic paganism and then one of my favorite and more ridiculous rumors is that the star on top of the Christmas tree stems from astrological glorification. But these myths are all so wrong.
The history and origins of Christmas are trying to be rewritten. People have been attempting to replace the truth about this amazing holiday with urban legends. They have been covering the honesty and purity of how this holiday started with myths, lies, flimflam and a dash of tomfoolery. The celebration of the Nativity of our Lord is a thoroughly Christian celebration… and I’m about to show you why.

Merry Christmas listener! It's The Very Christmas Special! A fun, ridiculous episode covering the story of a war which was actually stopped by the spirit of Christmas itself.
We are also diving into the tale of a man who finally discovers his wife is alive after believing she was dead for the last few decades.
Finally we cover an adorable anecdote that proves that God will use you to do more than you could ever imagine possible.
If that wasn’t enough I’m also adding 8 crazy and bizarre traditions that are used to celebrate the holidays around the world. Half-goat beasts, logs that… make their own logs, doorway-sniffing trolls, Colonel Sanders… oh yeah, these show notes are going to make absolutely no sense what-so-ever. That is unless you hit play.

A woman turns into salt, twins are transforming into stone and a man is changing into a tree.
Lot's wife is a woman first mentioned in Genesis 19. The Book of Genesis describes how she became a pillar of salt after she looked back at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Even though she was warned not to do so by the very angels who were trying to save her.
Some think they know why this woman was turned into salt but not too many really know how.
Did Lot’s wife transform on a cellular level into this spice, or was her body dusted with salt after the destruction consumed her? Stay tuned to find out.
We are also looking at a few medical marvels including a man that looks like tree branches are growing out of his body and some sisters who are slowly turning into stone, coming closer and closer to not being able to move any part of their bodies at all.
How is this happening?
Is there a cure for any of these diseases?
Is Lot's wife's solidified body still around and has it been found?

The term “Black Robe Regiment” referred not to a literal regiment of soldiers that wore black robes into battle. Instead it refers to the influential clergymen who promoted American independence and supported the military struggle against Britain. By encouraging the Patriot cause, those ministers helped spur critical support among members of their congregation. This was support that the British totally hated and also acknowledged as incredibly important to maintaining the colonists' passionate resistance to the British powers.
Because of their defiance and ability to build up colonial forces faster than even the recruiters of the day, these rebel preachers were targeted more so than many of other military troops.
Families were torn apart, churches were burned, reverends were torchered and many of these devout saints took up arms and fought in one of the most important wars in American history.
Many historians agree that the war would have turned out much differently if not for the brave clergy who set their Bibles down for a time only to grab their muskets.
Who were these brave soldiers, what truly made them such a threat and what atrocities awaited any of these pastors if they were ever captured? Click play to find out.

King Saul was the first King of Israel chosen by God. Although his reign as ruler of all Israel started off well, the King quickly started to do things his own way. From not taking care of his enemies properly, to doing the work that was specifically given to the priests to do… King Saul was breaking all the rules. This and much more put him at odds with the Lord.
So he thought why not go the extra mile and instead of waiting on God for answers, Saul decides to go to a rundown town of Endor and seek the help of a witch. The best part, it was more than a witch that gave him answers. It was a ghost that gave the king an ominous fortune.
Learn more about witchcraft history and how prevalent it was during the old testament.
What pushed King Saul to ask for help from such an unlikely ally?
Was the spirit the witch conjured truly a ghost or something far worse?
Who was this Witch of Endor and what witchcraft was her specialty?

Lions are one of the best animals created. They are also one of the most dangerous. Based on several stories we cover in this episode you’ll find out that whether you are in a zoo or the wild… it is never good to go into a lion's territory. If a lion can take down an elephant or giraffe then it wouldn’t have any problem with a podcaster.
It's amazing what God has equipped these killing machines with: claws, teeth, night vision and a hidden spike in their tale?
Throughout scripture the bible has used these amazing beasts to represent both God and the Devil at different times.
What weapons does a lion have? How do they hunt? Why would it be so easy for a lion to literally lick my face off?

David Livingstone was a Scottish physician and pioneer missionary, an explorer in Africa, and one of the most popular British heroes of the late 19th-century. He had a mythic status that operated on a number of interconnected levels: Christian missionary, scientific investigator, explorer, and anti-slavery crusader.
Livingstone's fame as an explorer and his obsession with learning the sources of the Nile River was founded on the belief that if he could solve that age-old mystery, his fame would give him the influence to end the East African Arab–Swahili slave trade.
Livingstone was found with his arm ripped to shreds while a lion was standing over his body, he witnessed a true massacre right before his eyes, he traveled with cholera and malaria and was lastly cut off from all contact from the known world. He experienced all this to bring freedom from sin and slavery to the people of Africa.
What were his successes? What were his failures?

This week we are jumping back into scripture to cover the life of a fan favorite… David. But we are not going to be covering his early years… not yet anyways. Nope.
We are fastforwarding to his time after he becomes King. Actually we are going to dial in on a very specific time during his rule and the choices he made that would affect the world forever. Choices that also involved the second star of the episode… A girl by the name of Bathsheba. You might have heard of her.
So we will be lightly touching on those events today as we go over a quick setup seeing what brought lil David into king status. Then we stop… and cover a story from the eyes of one of his subjects. Bathsheba herself. If you think she was just a young temptress who was trying to seduce the king so she could sleep her way into power… prepare to have your mind blown! Not only because of who she was but how important she is. Which you will find out as we focus on this young woman after her story is told.
Lastly we will answer the question: why is David considered a man after Gods own heart after being such dill hole? Stay tuned for that.

Although the fall of the massive vessel known as the Titanic is very much a tragedy. Within its story is hidden many inspirational lives. We will touch very briefly on several heroes that stood out above the crowd towards the end of the episode… but tonight’s main focus is going to be on a preacher who went by the name of John Harper. First we’ll dive into a hefty set-up looking at first the religious boom of the time and then we will uncover the origins of the “unsinkable ship”. Yes… that was one of its nicknames. Apparently instead of christening the ship with a bottle of wine, they christened the Titanic with a heavy dose of irony. We’ll cover the details of why it was built and how.
After that we will go over a sad… but inspiring story of a preacher/father, his daughter and also his niece. And the tragic night that changed all their lives forever.

Desmond Doss joined the army during WWII which is what many brave men did at the time. The only problem with Doss doing this is that he vowed to never hold a gun in his hands. Many people say they can see miracles all around them. A serendipitous moment, someone is healed after being sick for a week, or maybe even weather changes. But then… then there are miracles that can go against the very laws of physics. Events that can not be explained by science. No specialist in any field can deduce what the cause of the event was or how it happened… but there is true evidence of its occurrence. There are Miracles that literally stop the world from spinning.
We will be diving into 7 such miracles today. 6 from scripture and one that happened a lot more recently. You are not going to want to miss it.

A peasant girl with little to nothing becomes the wife of a king. She is brought into a life of great luxury and riches, but soon this new Queen discovers she is instrumental in the salvation of her entire people. She becomes a hero.

Samson is one of the most famous judges of Israel. The question is why? Was it his strength, his story itself or his weakness? His kryptonite may not have been what you think.
After covering some Philistine history and digging into Samson's life, we will then be taking a close look at his true weakness. Was it his hair, his love or something else all together? The last thing we will be zeroing in on is Sammie's strength. From beating a lion with his bare hands to lifting the massive Gaza gates onto his shoulders... it's insane to think of what this guy was able to accomplish. Samson was a real life superhero.
