I don't have to tell you that 2020 has been far from perfect. But you've made it this far, through COVID and quarantine and phased re-openings. Maybe you lost your job, or even worse, a loved one. You became besties with an app named, Zoom.
Or maybe you haven't felt like celebrating at all. And that's understandable. Life wasn't meant to be lived like a real-life version of The Sims. You had plans. And those plans were tossed out the window. But that's why it's more important than ever before, to find your own light.

If you’re an aspiring beginner runner, a sometimes runner, or a wannabe runner that daydreams about running if only you had more energy, the right clothes, weighed less, fresh joints, more hours in your day, a plan to follow, or tips to get started, then today’s episode is a must-listen. The runners gliding through your local park might be enough to motivate you to head out on the road yourself, or maybe you’re just looking for a way to be more active or lose weight. But no matter why you want to start running, it’s time to lace up and enjoy every step, well, maybe not every step, but you'll get there.
For some backup, I invited the creator of the blog and Facebook group, FATGIRLRUNNING, Mirna Valerio to the show. Mirna is an ultramarathoner, teacher, National Geographic 2018 Adventurer of the Year, and author of the book, A Beautiful Work in Progress.
And even if running never crosses your mind, something does. Something that u have wanted to try or succeed at, that until this point has eluded you. Keep listening, because there are some gems in today’s episode for you too. Practices and philosophies you can apply to whatever goal or item are on your to-do list.

They say the Holidays are the MOST wonderful time of the year, but between the little things like Christmas, Hannukah, and Kwanza shopping, perfecting cooking recipes, and navigating holiday travel or the big things like missing loved ones, deployment overseas, or little money in the bank, this time of the year can be downright STRESSFUL.
When you are operating from a place of stress, it ain't always easy to remember gratitude. But there are easy ways to take the pressure off and still find time to say, 'thanks.'

Sleep is a primary biological need, but 2 out of 3 people are not getting enough sleep. Is that you?
Sleep affects almost every type of tissue and system in the body – from the brain, heart, and lungs to metabolism, immune function, mood, and disease resistance. Research shows that a chronic lack of sleep, or getting poor quality sleep, increases the risk of disorders including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and obesity.

We spend a lot of time on YOU WANNA DO WHAT?! talking about side hustles, bucket list items and achieving goals - from mindset to health and everything in between. Is there a solution to cure loneliness? Loneliness comes in many forms job loss, deployment, divorce, death, illness, or moving to a new city. For me, grief was the catalyst. When I was 16, I suffered a traumatic loss that forever changed my life. I found myself alone, lonely. Chronic loneliness is an epidemic. Half of Americans say they feel alone and in Britain, it's 1 in 3 people.
If you have the courage to confess that you're lonely, most people reply with well-intentioned but unhelpful pieces of advice like, “Reach out and connect, make friends, here’s a great quote.” As if you hadn’t seen the “Just Hang in There” cat poster before.
In my TEDx talk, “The Flipside of Loneliness”, I share my formula for navigating loneliness, including the 3 ways to embrace the 'lone' in lonely.

Are you comparing your roadmap to someone else? Matt LeBris was just 17 when he began working in the NYC nightlife industry. Captivated by money, Matt fell for the allure of the brights lights and big city. Unable to juggle both school and work, Matt failed out of college and opted to expand his position in marketing and promotion working with people like 50 Cent, Fetty Wap and more.
An epiphany led Matt to recommit to his education which led to meeting Daymond John of ABC's Shark Tank and then, a full-time job within Daymond's company.

"The days are long but the years are short." - Gretchen Rubin
Celebrate a special 100th episode of YOU WANNA DO WHAT?!
In 2013, I bought my first microphone, but it wasn't until 2017 that I began podcasting. What if I hadn't chickened out? What if I hadn't talked myself out of starting? That was nearly 6 years ago, and it got me thinking about what else I would do differently.
What advice would I give my younger self? What advice would you give yours?
With the help of friends, listeners and former YOU WANNA DO WHAT?! guests, I'm sharing 9 pieces of advice I would give my younger self with the hopes that I wasn't too much of a stubborn kid to take it.
Plus the motto I've lived by for over 20 years. You can USE it today and every day going forward.

We’ve all heard the term “overnight success”, but the truth is that there is no such thing.
What successful people do is they refused to give up. They put in the hard work, long hours and refuse to give in to fear and doubt. They get serious about their goal setting, they examine their lives, and they make the tough decisions. Sometimes, that means walking away from an industry you loved and worked in for 9 years.
That’s the story of Emily McDowell, today’s podcast guest. Emily became an entrepreneur “accidentally” by with the creation of a greeting card. ONE greeting card and her life changed. She’s a self-taught entrepreneur with a commitment to personal development and a refusal to give up. Today, we’ll talk about:
Emily McDowell is a writer, illustrator, and entrepreneur who specializes in chronicling the human condition. In 2012, she left a successful career in advertising to launch her greeting card line, making cards for the relationships we really have.

Mess causes stress! The average American home has 300,000 items, 300,000. Those piles of clutter aren’t only in your way, they’re weighing on your mind. They represent chores to do, goals to meet, and decisions to make. We feel out of control when we are surrounded by more things than we can manage. Thanks to Netflix and Marie Kondo, on today’s episode, we are SPARKING JOY. Hear my journey to live a more simplified, pared down, uncluttered life with less stuff. I highly recommend you try it. ------------

Are you "shoulding" all over yourself? It usually goes something like, "I should have done laundry / gone to the gym / said no to dessert / and well, you get it. With each "should" we add extra weight on our shoulders and it manifests as shame and guilt.
The next time you find yourself covered in "should," replace it with the question I share in episode 84. It'll move you into a place of empowerment and action.

She knows the determination and courage it takes to overcome the professional, personal and psychological hurdles women face.
When we travel, we get to choose our own experience. Some choose to watch the world from the outside, as a voyeur, never really taking part. And then, there's another type of traveler -- the kind who seeks to embrace the world and live a truly authentic experience. Monika created GLYD around one very simple idea -- if you want to really experience another place, the best way to do it is with someone who lives there.
With the launch of GLYD, a travel platform that connects travelers with locals in their destination, she hopes to not only disrupt the travel industry for the better, but to also create opportunities and inspire people across the globe.

What would happen if you dared yourself to do it anyway? To do it, whatever your it is, even if it meant it wasn’t perfect?
Perfectionism masks itself in accomplishments but it’s really about not wanting to fail.

Have you ever lost hope? Chelsea Dinsmore was hours away from reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro when her entire life changed.
No one would have blamed her if she stayed in bed for months. Experts, books and friends all told her to give herself a year to heal. If you have experienced loss or death, grief can consume you. Chelsea practiced mindfulness as she grieved, always examining her thoughts before reacting. Over the next year, she traveled the world - alone - and she designed a life based how she wanted to feel.

Who says kids get to have all the fun? Most adults are oblivious to what we knew as children — that play is where you live. Playful adults have the ability to transform everyday situations, even stressful ones, into something entertaining. Grownups aren’t supposed to play. We are mature. We’re busy. We have important things to do. It turns out, though, that there are few things more important to your happiness than frequent doses of play.

My guest had to face some big challenges; a father who wasn’t always present, a blown out knee in his early 20s and a dream to be a comedian that he wasn’t quite sure how to make happen.
