In this week's podcast episode, we look back at a Research Refresh by Ané Lloyd. Ané reviews a pilot study where 50 dogs of different ages and with different musculoskeletal diseases underwent a 5 week underwater treadmill treatment protocol. The study reports improvements in the range of motion of all joints following the 5 week period. She discusses how we can use our clinical records to prep and create retrospective studies, how we need to have our practices set up to do that, and what some of my recommendations would be if that is something that you want to pursue. She also discusses the various limitations of this study, and how it can be set up in the future to give us more reliable data. Ben shares the mechanics of the achilles brace, discussing how the lever arms and forces are applied with a brace, and what we need to look at to have a secure brace that does not slip down the hock. Deciding on purchasing equipment for your veterinary rehabilitation practice can often be a difficult decision. But the reality is that certain pieces of equipment can actually generate extra income and bring more clients through the door. The equipment also will allow you to offer a better service to your client and get better patient outcomes. Everyone works out their own way of doing a rehab consult today I share my preferred system. I break my consult into 3 parts pre-examination, examination, and post-examination.
