Questions to consider: What if the way you're using AI is limiting what's actually possible? Are you thinking like a task-doer… or like a strategist? What would change if AI didn't replace your value—but multiplied it? And what if a simple daily streak could unlock a completely new level of thinking, creativity, and impact?
This episode isn't just about AI—it's about how you think, how you grow, and how you lead in a world that's changing faster than ever. What makes it compelling is not the technology itself, but the shift in mindset it invites. You'll hear a real, honest conversation that wrestles with the same questions many people are asking right now—fear of being replaced, concern about becoming dependent, and uncertainty about where all of this is going. But instead of stopping at fear, this episode pushes forward into possibility. It reframes AI from something to worry about into something that can expand your thinking, amplify your abilities, and elevate the way you approach problems, work, and even creativity.
There's a powerful tension throughout the episode: Are you using AI like a basic tool, or are you engaging it like a strategic collaborator? That distinction alone can change everything. You'll walk away thinking differently about how you ask questions, how you make decisions, and how you show up in your work and life. And the stories—like someone building a fully functioning app in hours with no coding background—will stretch your belief about what's now possible.
At the same time, this episode stays grounded. It doesn't blindly celebrate AI. It addresses the real concerns: losing skills, losing identity, losing control. But instead of offering fear-based answers, it offers a better path—one where you stay in control, you keep thinking deeply, and you use AI to sharpen your abilities rather than replace them. That balance is what makes this conversation worth your time.
And here's where it becomes actionable. This isn't just insight—it's an invitation. What if you turned this into a streak? What if every day you simply opened AI, asked one thoughtful question, or explored one idea? Small, consistent actions—done daily—are how transformation actually happens. That's where the MyStreaks app comes in. It's designed to help you take ideas like this and turn them into daily behavior. Because insight without action fades, but a streak builds momentum, confidence, and real change over time.
If you want to think bigger, adapt faster, and stay relevant in a rapidly evolving world, this episode will challenge you—in the best possible way. It won't just inform you. It will stretch you, invite you, and maybe even change how you approach your day tomorrow.
Because in the end, this isn't about AI. It's about who you become as you learn to use it.
Questions to Consider:
We are living in a moment unlike any other—where content is everywhere, voices are endless, and yet clarity can feel harder to find. In this episode, Jeff and Jami invite you into a raw, unscripted, and deeply relevant conversation about authenticity in a world that often feels driven by promotion. It's not polished. It's not packaged. It's real.
What makes this episode powerful is not just the topic—it's the honesty. You'll hear them wrestle with questions many of us are quietly asking: Can I trust what I'm consuming? Am I being influenced more than I realize? Is there still space for genuine connection in a digital world? And perhaps most importantly—how do I stay grounded and authentic in the middle of it all?
But this isn't just a conversation about content—it's a conversation about you. Your thinking. Your agency. Your ability to choose what shapes your life. From reflections on AI as a "cognitive partner" to the importance of asking better questions and leading your own thinking, this episode will challenge you to step back and examine not just what you consume—but how you engage with it.
And in the middle of it all, there's a powerful reminder: consistency is your anchor. When everything around you is noisy, streaks give you something steady—something intentional—something that's yours. That's where the MyStreaks app comes in. It's not just a tracker—it's a tool to help you live deliberately, build momentum, and stay aligned with what matters most. Whether you're pursuing personal growth, strengthening relationships, or simply trying to show up better each day, MyStreaks helps turn intention into action—one day at a time.
If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the noise… if you've ever questioned what's real… if you've ever wanted to live more intentionally—this episode is for you.
Press play. Think deeply. And most importantly… keep streaking.

Summary In this episode of The Streaking Podcast, Jeffery and Jami introduce and explore the Streaking Growth Matrix—a framework they developed to clarify how different tools (wishes, goals, habits, routines, and streaks) interact in the process of personal growth. They discuss the limitations of relying solely on goals or habits, and show how streaks uniquely serve as both a starting point for change and a method for sustaining it. Through family stories, health examples, and even piano practice, they illustrate why streaks belong in the top-right quadrant of the Growth Matrix: high power to change behavior and high power to maintain it.
Chapters 00:00 – Introduction & Excitement Jeffery and Jami set the stage by sharing their excitement about the Growth Matrix and why they felt it was important to create.
02:26 – Defining Goals Clearly They review FranklinCovey’s definition of a goal—“X to Y by when”—and discuss how goals ignite change but often fail to sustain it.
04:45 – Family Reading Goal Example The Downs family’s goal to read 200 books in a year highlights how goals drive short-term focus but are rarely repeated.
07:13 – Habits and Routines in Maintenance A discussion on why habits and routines help maintain existing behaviors but don’t start new ones, and the problem with assuming all good things become “automatic.”
09:35 – Explaining the Growth Matrix Jeffery introduces the 2x2 visual:
11:54 – The Wish Zone The starting point for all change, but not sustainable if you remain there. Wishes inspire but don’t move you forward.
14:22 – Routine & Habit Zone Using metaphors like a tree’s water and nutrients, they show how maintaining consistency prevents atrophy—even if growth isn’t flashy.
19:07 – The Goal Zone High change but low maintenance. Great for starting big shifts but weak for sustaining them.
21:31 – The Streak Zone Why streaks uniquely combine maintenance and change: they create a floor you can always build on and connect seamlessly to goals.
23:57 – Streaks as Lifelong Tools Examples of piano practice and health routines show how streaks help through life changes, transitions, and disruptions.
30:53 – The Path: Wish → Goal → Streak → Routine/Habit Jeffery and Jami argue that positive growth starts with a wish, builds with goals and streaks, and eventually can lead to stable routines.
33:14 – The Role of Intentionality They emphasize that meaningful growth doesn’t become effortless; it always requires some level of intentional action.
35:34 – Closing Reflections They wrap up with gratitude for the conversation and invite listeners to share their own experiences with the Growth Matrix.
Conclusion The Streaking Growth Matrix helps us see clearly where streaks belong: in the zone of maximum growth, where they fuel both change and consistency. Unlike goals, which end when the finish line is crossed, or habits that only maintain, streaks keep you moving forward every single day—laughably simple, but deeply powerful.
If you’re ready to move from wishing to real, sustained growth, the best way to start is with the MyStreaks app. It’s the only streak tracker designed around the Streaking Laws, helping you set laughably simple streaks, keep them alive, and unlock the compound effect of daily consistency. Summary In this episode, Jeffery sits down with sales strategist and magician Tyler Jensen, founder of Top Performance Group, to unpack the four pillars of top performance and how “a little sleight of hand” can lock critical sales ideas into memory. If you’re ready to turn insights into consistent action, start a simple streak in the free MyStreaks app today—for example, “Make 1 prospecting touch” or “Review pipeline for 5 minutes” daily. Tiny, laughably simple actions—done consistently—compound into top performance. Download MyStreaks and join the streaking community to build the systems Tyler talks about and keep your optimism, power, and focus alive.
Tyler shares how learning magic (yes, Vegas gigs!) sharpened his ability to teach principles that stick. He tells the story of opening an insurance agency, getting slammed with a $12,000 clawback, and deciding to study top performers across fields. That research became his framework: Optimism (the mindset), Systems (the safeguard), Power/Wisdom (applied knowledge), and Focus (clear direction)—plus a memorable sales-culture model he illustrates with a magic routine built on C.A.R.E.: Customers, Attributes (of leaders), Reputation, and Employees. We also hear a wilderness lesson on promptings and perspective, how to recover gracefully when tricks (or deals) fail, and why attunement beats canned objection handling.
Chapters & Timecodes * 00:01 – Opening & Guest Intro: From AGT inspiration to sales culture expert * 01:20 – The Magic Origin Story: Learning Matt Franco’s routines, performing in Vegas * 05:35 – Career Zigzag: Trainer → agency owner → corporate trainer → entrepreneur * 07:48 – The $12K Gut Punch: Chargebacks, doubt, and the decision to study top performers * 09:32 – Research Scope: Agents, athletes, parents—top performance is universal * 10:44 – Pillar #2: Systems: Consistency with flexibility beats chaotic “busy” * 13:19 – Pillar #3: Power/Wisdom: Knowledge isn’t power—applied knowledge is * 18:58 – Pillar #4: Focus: “There is no fear when the focus is clear” (goals, plans, daily direction) * 20:52 – False Peaks & Complacency: Why “I’m good” stalls growth * 23:25 – Pillar #1: Optimism: The mindset that makes the whole model work * 26:56 – Mountain Lesson: A hunting story, promptings, and choosing the “best possible outcome” lens * 29:37 – Teaching with Magic: Designing tricks to anchor business principles * 31:34 – The C.A.R.E. Sales Culture: Customers, Attributes, Reputation, Employees—made unforgettable * 36:30 – Family & Entrepreneurship: Gratitude, support, and kids as first audience * 39:03 – Psychology of Sales: Attunement > scripted rebuttals (Attune–Unite–Transition–Close) * 42:30 – When Tricks Fail: Systems turn mistakes into memorable moments * 47:28 – Connect with Tyler: TopPerformanceGroup.com, summits, assessments * 48:27 – Close: Keep paddling upstream—and keep streaking
Conclusion Tyler’s framework is simple and potent: Start with Optimism, protect progress with Systems, turn learning into impact through Power/Wisdom, and steer everything with Focus. If you want these ideas to change your results, you need daily proof of action. That’s where MyStreaks shines: set one micro-commitment (e.g., “1 customer follow-up,” “Draft 3 lines of a proposal,” or “Capture 1 lesson learned”) and do it every day. The app keeps your streak alive, your optimism high, and your focus clear—so false peaks don’t become finish lines.

In this deeply reflective and playful conversation, Jeffery and Jami Downs explore a surprising source of tension in their streaking philosophy—timed streaks. What begins as a personal debate over setting a daily 5-minute study streak with their son evolves into a thoughtful and often humorous exploration of how we perceive and manage time, how it affects our consistency, and why activity-based streaks may offer more freedom and flexibility than time-based ones.
They discuss the psychology behind "not having time," why perception of time is flawed, and how measuring activity rather than duration helps build true consistency. The episode underscores that streaking is not about measuring effort by the clock, but by the identity you’re building—one deliberate action at a time.
They end by agreeing that time-based streaks aren’t necessarily wrong, but they are a “hard yellow light”—requiring extra caution due to the mental hurdles they introduce.
Key insight: “Everyone has the same amount of time in a day. What changes everything is not the minutes you manage—but the meaningful actions you repeat.”
Chapter Overview 00:00–02:00 | Podcast Banter and Setup Jeffery and Jami open with some lighthearted commentary about their podcast setup and how streaks are often born from their running conversations.
02:00–04:30 | The Debate Begins: Time vs. Activity Jami shares her feelings of being “bristled” when Jeffery discourages time-based streaks. They discuss how disagreements have evolved into deeper understanding in their marriage—and in streaking.
04:30–07:00 | What’s ‘Laughably Simple’ is Personal They emphasize that the “laughably simple” standard is determined by the individual, not imposed externally. If five minutes feels simple to you, that can be your streak.
07:00–11:30 | Why Jeffery Avoids Time-Based Streaks Jeffery shares his aversion to time streaks, explaining how “I don’t have time” becomes a mental block. Activity-based streaks remove that excuse.
11:30–14:00 | The Universal Currency of Time They discuss how everyone has the same 24 hours and how time is constant—but our perception of it is wildly inconsistent.
14:00–18:00 | Perception vs. Reality of Time Through examples (planking, watching shorts, pop tarts, and Disney lines), they explore how different activities distort our experience of time.
18:00–21:00 | Are We Managing Time or Activity? Jeffery offers a mind-shift: you don’t manage time—you manage the activity that occupies time. This leads to more intentional living.
21:00–25:00 | Seeing Opportunity in the Gaps They reflect on moments where streaks happened during unplanned time—like reading in line at Disneyland—because the activity was front of mind.
25:00–27:00 | Planking, Shorts, and Productive Distractions Jeffery admits to pairing planking with watching shorts as a way to make the time pass faster. It's a clever blend of distraction and discipline.
27:00–30:00 | The Yellow Light of Timed Streaks They propose that timed streaks aren’t necessarily bad—but they do require caution. Time can create mental barriers or limit expansion.
30:00–32:30 | Identity Over Minutes: The Final Shift They conclude that streaking is about identity through activity—not effort measured by time. Time passes regardless. It’s the consistency that builds change.

Before we go full throttle into today’s episode—if you haven’t downloaded the MyStreaks App now’s the time.Whether you're the engine racing ahead or the brake keeping life on track, MyStreaks helps you build momentum through laughably small daily actions. Create streaks that reflect who you want to become and track the simple behaviors that accelerate progress or apply the brakes when you need to stay grounded. Your transformation is one streak away.
In this heartfelt and metaphor-rich episode, Jeff and Jami explore how a Formula One race car’s engine and brakes reflect deeper truths about marriage, personal growth, and streaking. Drawing from their shared experience as runners, spouses, and streakers, they compare Jeff’s “engine” nature with Jami’s role as the “brake.” Together, they show how embracing both acceleration and control—through intentional daily streaks—leads not only to finishing life’s race, but winning it.
00:00 – Welcome & Metaphor Introduction Jeff and Jami introduce the day’s topic: they’re “experts” in Formula One—at least metaphorically. The conversation centers on the powerful dynamic between speed (engine) and control (brake) and how that mirrors real life.
01:45 – Ford vs. Ferrari & the Brakes That Save the Car Jeff shares a scene from Ford vs. Ferrari, where the car crashes due to brake failure. The takeaway: power without control is dangerous. That’s where the metaphor is born.
03:45 – Jami’s Running Journey: From Doubt to Determination Jami recounts how she once believed she wasn’t a runner—until inspiration (and a few brutal experiences) pushed her to lace up and finish races, even with setbacks like bloody noses and vomiting.
06:50 – Inspired by the Finish Line Watching Jeff complete a marathon sparks Jami’s desire to become a runner. She realizes that crossing the finish line matters more than time, speed, or comparison.
09:00 – The “Our Pace” Epiphany A poorly phrased comment from Jeff leads to an ongoing conversation about pace—not his, not hers, but ours. It becomes a metaphor for marriage and shared goals.
10:55 – Injury, Ego & the Blessing of Slowing Down Jeff admits that before running with Jami, his ego drove him to injuries. Running at “our pace” not only healed his body but enabled their 10-year running streak.
13:00 – Jami’s Vulnerability: Always the Brake Jami opens up about the emotional weight of always being the “brake.” She longs for Jeff to feel what it’s like to be the slower runner—the less celebrated one.
15:00 – Trusting the Brake = Greater Performance Jeff explains that in F1, the best drivers go faster because they trust their brakes. It’s the same in life—trusting the slower, grounding forces allows us to move forward with confidence.
17:15 – Society’s Obsession with Acceleration They reflect on how our culture idolizes engines: overnight success, viral posts, bestseller lists. But without brakes—rest, reflection, and restraint—we crash.
18:55 – Streaks as Brakes: Slowing Down to Stay on Track Jeff reveals that many of his streaks (like daily connections with his kids) are brakes. They interrupt his natural tendency to “go fast” and protect what matters most.
21:30 – Dual Purpose: Streaks as Brakes and Engines Jami reframes it beautifully: streaks can be either brakes or engines depending on the moment. Sometimes they motivate, sometimes they regulate.
23:00 – Writing and the Work Behind the Scenes Jeff tells the story of becoming a writer—how streaking replaced fantasy with consistency. Writing a book didn’t happen in a burst of inspiration but through showing up daily.
25:30 – Glory vs. Grind: Why Streaks Matter They talk about how social media shows the highlights, not the hard work. Streaking celebrates the daily grind that no one sees—but that makes the difference.
27:00 – Who Are You in Your F1 Car? You’re the driver. The question is: can you trust both your acceleration and your braking systems? The right streaks help you do both and become who you’re meant to be.
28:00 – Wrap-Up & Invitation to Streak Jeff and Jami encourage listeners to reflect on their own engines and brakes, and to use the MyStreaks app to track and reinforce the daily actions that help finish the race.
Closing Quote “The engine gets the spotlight, but it’s the brake that keeps you alive. When both work together, you don’t just move—you finish.”
What Would You Tell Your Freshman Self? In this heartfelt episode of The Streaking Podcast, Jami and I reflect on our son’s graduation and the timeless question seniors were asked: What advice would you give your freshman self?
That question sparked a deeper conversation about choice, fear, regret, and the power of small, consistent actions. We talk openly about the pressure of life stages, the myth of “doing it all,” and how every decision—especially those made in fear—comes with trade-offs.
We explore why consistency (streaking!) matters more than chasing the big, flashy reward and why looking back only makes sense when we honor the realities we faced at the time.
The takeaway: You are the pilot. The small, daily choices are your course corrections.
Listen in, reflect, and ask yourself: What would I tell myself five years ago? What small action can I take today to shape who I want to become?
00:00 – 01:00 | Opening Reflections: Graduation & the Freshman Question Jeffery introduces the theme after attending his son’s high school graduation.
01:00 – 03:30 | From Struggling Reader to Confident Presenter A proud parenting moment sparks reflection on growth over time.
03:30 – 06:00 | Senior Advice That Still Applies in Adulthood Life lessons shared by graduates—about worry, involvement, and fear of judgment.
06:00 – 09:00 | What Would I Tell Myself Five Years Ago? A personal look at major life changes and the perspective they bring.
09:00 – 12:00 | Fear-Based Decisions vs. Intentional Choices How fear shapes choices—and why recognizing trade-offs matters.
12:00 – 15:00 | The Illusion of “Having It All” The myth that you can choose everything without consequence.
15:00 – 18:00 | Looking Back with Realism, Not Regret Why it’s easy to forget the pressure of past moments and question good decisions.
18:00 – 21:00 | The Value of Mentors and Experience How to use hindsight and foresight to navigate choices better.
21:00 – 24:00 | The Graduation Theme: It’s the Pilot, Not the Plane The power of intentionality—and aviation metaphors—for life direction.
24:00 – 27:00 | Course Correction and the Power of Streaking Why small, consistent actions are your best navigation tools.
27:00 – 30:00 | Don’t Chase the Promise—Do the Work Recognizing substance over hype, especially in career decisions.
30:00 – 33:00 | Vegetables vs. Cotton Candy: The Work of Consistency The contrast between lasting value and quick wins.
33:00 – End | Final Takeaways and Sign-Off Jeffery and Jami summarize the lessons and invite listeners to live intentionally and keep streaking.

Summary
In this episode, Jeffery Downs discusses an article titled 'Is This It? On the Disappointment of Success' by Greg Vanourek. The article explores the concept of the arrival fallacy, which is the assumption that achieving a major goal will bring lasting happiness and satisfaction. Jeffery highlights examples of successful individuals who experienced disappointment after reaching their goals. He explains the factors that contribute to this disappointment, including the hedonic treadmill and the focus on outcome and achievement. Jeffery introduces streaking as an alternative approach to goal-setting, emphasizing the importance of enjoying the journey and focusing on daily, weekly, and monthly streaks. He concludes by discussing the power of streaking in avoiding the disappointment of success and invites listeners to explore streaking as a framework for personal growth and fulfillment.
Takeaways
The arrival fallacy is the belief that achieving a major goal will bring lasting happiness and satisfaction, but it often leads to disappointment. Successful individuals, such as Michael Phelps and Tom Brady, have experienced depression and a sense of emptiness after reaching their goals. The hedonic treadmill is the tendency to quickly adapt to changes in circumstances and return to a baseline level of happiness. Focusing on inputs, such as daily, weekly, and monthly streaks, can bring more joy and fulfillment than solely focusing on outcomes and achievements. Streaking offers a framework for personal growth and fulfillment by emphasizing the process, enjoying the journey, and becoming who you want to be.

It can lead to a sense of unease and discontent. On the other hand, appreciation is characterized by gratitude, positivity, and a focus on the good in life. It involves recognizing and valuing the positive aspects of people, situations, and experiences. Appreciation fosters contentment, deeper relationships, and overall well-being. Making the shift from agitation to appreciation can significantly improve one's mental and emotional health, offering a more fulfilling and harmonious perspective on life. Start now with appreciation and gratitude.

When you think of acting you rarely ever act; however, you can act your way into new ways of thinking quickly. When you are motivated to change, to become, the question is what do you do about it? Usually you don't do anything or you flame up and then flame out. Rather than letting the motivation be a fast burning fuel, let it be the spark that ignites the long burning fire.

As you think through your life, through different times that you've been through, have you ever compared yourself with anyone else and found yourself either better than or worse than that particular person? Have you ever thought to yourself "in comparison..." Have you ever had that phrase hit your brain? Comparison is a cancer. It's not something that is helpful. It's not something that buoys people up, that gives them hope, it is always something that drags people down.

When you set up a streak you want to give yourself the widest opportunity to win. Why? Because you are putting effort, energy, and intensity in being consistent. You are doing the activity every day. The difficulty is not in the activity itself it is in overcomming your own self doubt about how this can help. Setting up the floor of your success is difficult becuase it requires patience. The frequency of the streak is the other area where you make it laughably simple.

What is the appeal of fail fast fail often? Why do people have that as a mantra? Stephen M.R. Covey writes in the Speed of Trust, "if you're not willing to make mistakes, you're not going to improve. Often people aren't willing to make mistakes because they're either afraid to fail or they're focused on looking good, but smart people and smart companies realize that making mistakes is part of life. They see mistakes as feedback that will help them improve and they become expert in learning how to learn from mistakes."

"Accountability is not the responsibility of a community. In fact, when I look at accountability partners or those people who you say are buddies that are to hold you accountable, in actuality, accountability is your responsibility and the record of your success.
"The streak is the accountability partner. The number of days in a row, the record that you have is your accountability. You either did it or you didn't, and therefore you're either accountable to keeping the streak alive or accountable for letting it die. Either way, it's totally up to you. So what then is the community for? And not that it can't have an impact on whether or not you keep the streak alive, but it's not about accountability. You see, the community, is all about the celebration."

And let's define a little bit further what high pressure is. There's something that you have to do that is required of you. And what makes it high pressure? It's due right now. And there are people who are asking you for that thing, whatever it is. And you have to deliver on it. You have to have something to say about it. Is money the only tangible measurement of success?
While scrolling through Youtube shorts, I noticed that every time someone was featured in the short as being successful, money was the measurement. There was no other measurement used.
Why do you think that is? And is money the only measure
of success?
Money is something you can touch, see, smell, taste (not that I would ever want to), and hear.
If you are in the camp of" money is not a measure of success." Then I ask what is your tangible measure of success? And before you answer in the comments, that 'there is more to life than money," or that, “money can't buy you happiness." or other money related emotions, that is not the intent of the question.
The intent of the question is to find out, what is a tangible
measure of success, that you can count, exchange, transfer, etc.
Is money the only thing or is there something else that measures success?
