In this episode, I’m catching you up on all the things—because a lot has changed lately. It’s the kids’ first day back to school, and we made a big shift by stepping away from public school 👀. I’m sharing the “why” behind that decision, what school model we chose instead, and how it’s already changing our daily life.
Plus, I give you an honest update on my face and surgery recovery, what’s happening in my studio, and the exciting launch of my new Substack, Dear Sisters—a space where I’ll be writing from the heart about motherhood, life, and everything in between. Think of this episode as a little coffee date in podcast form.

Today’s episode is actually a lesson pulled straight from The Confident Mom Method and we felt this message is really relevant this time of year. Mom’s are typically very hesitant to spend time and money on themselves. And my mom asked me the other day - if I could say ONE thing to all moms right now, what would it be? And I said “STOP feeling like you can only spend money on your kids and learn to spend time and money on yourself too without guilt.”

In todays episode, I am walking you through five journaling prompts to help you show up more authentically in your life. Most people don't even know they are not showing up as the most authentic version of themselves, but the truth is, we tend to people please and try to live up to other people's expectations. And that doesn't work. It doesn't cultivate deep and meaningful relationships either.
So grab a notebook and a pen, your fav coffee or drink, and get ready to start a journaling practice with these five prompts.

Glow Fashion Boutique founders, Danielle and Rebecca, define a capsule wardrobe as a “specific curation or collection of items that complement each other.” This deceptively simple concept is at the crux of Jaime’s conversation with the style duo from Syracuse, New York (plus an exciting, upcoming masterclass between Glow Fashion Boutique and Mac House Co.). The exclusively online business offers individual pieces or bundles to help busy moms look and feel their best. They even offer a selection of guides with tips on building a capsule wardrobe for anyone with a closet full of clothes—but nothing to wear.
From the resources and the twelve classic pieces on their website to their strong social media presence, Danielle and Rebecca discuss the true versatility of timeless pieces like a pencil skirt or white button-down shirt. Through a closet audit, any mom can take steps to build a capsule wardrobe that’s lasting, streamlined, confidence-boosting. Jaime and the Glow Fashion ladies commiserate over the balancing act of motherhood, with all the expectations and pressures that every mother faces. That’s why it’s all the more important to pause and carve out a little time to curate a closet that inspires rather than adds to decision fatigue.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unfiltered Motherhood Podcast for a conversation with Danielle and Rebecca on breaking out of a funk (stylistically and emotionally), shifting away from overwhelm and shame, and using the clothes in your closet for a mindset makeover. Learn about how their business started in a YMCA parking lot, their processes of reclaiming their styles in motherhood, and their top tips for adding personality pieces into a capsule collection that make them all your own.
Quotes
• “Classic capsule is a specific curation or collection of items that complement each other.” (5:36-5:45)
• “[So many women] have a closet full of clothes that are idealistic but not realistic to their daily life.” (10:41-10:45)
• “When I started a family, I completely lost my sense of style because I put everybody else first.” (22:26-22:33)
• “No two people's capsule wardrobes will look the same because based on what they prefer in color and in patterns and whatnot, it will never be boring because it’s what you like, what you gravitate towards, and it's a reflection of your style.” (14:50- 15:11)

In today’s episode, Michelle and Jamie discuss how a woman’s relationship with her mother can greatly influence her relationship with her own daughter, both in positive and negative ways. They also discuss statistics surrounding mother and daughter relationships in the state and the various changes that can impact the mother-daughter relationship as daughters grow up.

Quotes
• “We are pulled in so many directions. It's easy for us to push things aside, push feelings aside, just overcompensate for things. So, it's really important to get into your body. That's one of the things I love about what you do is that the practice of putting on your makeup is attending to your body in this external way that feeds what's going on internally to wake up something.” (21:20-21:50)
• “I think ultimately what moms are really wanting with their daughters and what I hear so often from clients who come to me is, ‘I just want to be close.’ Yes, you will get close. But you have to allow for that moment. Those periods of separation are going to happen.” (34:22-34:40)
• “We as moms...we're almost near equal pay 80%. We earned degrees, then we earned more degrees, and we earned them faster than guys do….And yet, our daughters are less confident. They’re struggling. And I'm like, ‘Where's the disconnect?’” (42:04-42:30)
• “I want you to remember two things. One, that not only are you enough, but the only perfection is that you will perfectly love your daughter imperfectly. And I hope that that takes a weight off you as you ponder that statement.” (44:13-44:31)
• “We have this expectation of what a village looks like, what a family looks like, what support looks like, and we need to really learn and be open. Like what a cool time to live in right now that we can have this crazy cool online community….How cool that we have so many opportunities to get plugged in, and learn from other women and other families and all these different examples.” (56:07-56:34)

Quotes
• “I'm the adult in the situation, I can't depend on my children to be that prepared. I can teach them along the way because that's my job as a parent, but right with a three and a six year old what I can do, I can set them up for success. That means I'm setting myself up for success.” (6:44-6:58)
• “I don't think our children are ever intentionally aggressive or intentionally disobedient. And if they are, there's a reason behind that.” (10:04-10:12)
• “Disobedience really comes from a child feeling out of control, not listened to, not respected and like they're not a part of decisions that are being made.” (13:30-13:42)
• “Oftentimes, we're afraid, and we let fear decide for us. And I think that we just need to not care what anyone else thinks. We need to listen to this gut instinct that we have, this inner knowing that we have, and if you feel led to be at home, then be home.” (17:52-18:10)
• “I need to know that I'm living in alignment with my faith, with my goals, with my vision, with God, with all these things that I can stand confidently in front of God and say, yes, this was my life.” (20:52-21:03)
• “Live in alignment. trust your gut, put your hand on your gut, put your hand on your stomach, put your hand on your chest. Feel it. You can feel when something is right, and you're living in alignment. And you can feel when you aren't denying and dismissing your needs and your wants and your desires.” (22:01-22:17)

“You have got to do the work because we will repeat what we don’t repair,” says Kimberly Allston, Creator of The J.O.Y. Lifestyle Festival. Over the years, Kimberly has struggled with severe bouts of depression, which left her physically and spiritually depleted. After experiencing a three-month period of emotional paralysis at the end of 2018, Kimberly decided that 2019 would be the year she would turn her life around. It all started with taking a class at her local gym, a simple act of self-care that put her on a path of healing and discovery.
By incorporating intentional movement into her daily routine, Kimberly radically altered her mental health. In 2019, she ran 5 triathlons, started a business and finished a book! The catalyst was finding ways to clear her mind through exercise and conscious acts of self-care and self-love. Now, Kimberly has found a passion for helping women just like her discover clarity, passion and purpose. The J.O.Y. Lifestyle Festival is a three-day event featuring lessons from ten guest speakers to help participants do just that.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Unfiltered Motherhood Podcast for a conversation with Kimberly about making time for what is most important. Learn more about the power of validation, why acts of self-care honor God’s creations, and how the J.O.Y. mindset can help you make Jesus, others and yourself a daily lifestyle.
Quotes
• “When you’re in that state of mind, you don’t know how to pray. You don’t know how to read your Bible and comprehend it. You don’t even know how to ask for help, and you don’t know what faith is.” (8:18-8:33)
• “Just a little bit of movement can get you on the path where your head is not full of that mud and start making things more clear.” (9:00-9:13)
• “You have got to do the work because we will repeat what we don’t repair.” (18:13-18:19)
• “If someone opens up to you, it’s not your job to fix them, to counsel them. It’s your job to listen and let the Holy Spirit lead and see how you can help them.” (21:06-21:27)
• “Creating self-care strategies: that is what it’s about. It’s about having those routines and strategies that are a priority in your life.” (27:19-27:29)
• “By saying no, it’s like my brain really started to open up with God’s truth, I could hear the Holy Spirit more clearly….By saying no initially, you later on get to say yes to what you’re meant to say yes to.” (37:34-38:32)
• “We want to, as women, really invest in women friendships and be intentional about creating our tribe of friends, loving our tribe of friends, using our village. People come into our lives for a reason. God wants us to be in relationships. So that component of women friendships really helped me and showed me the importance of sharing my struggle.” (41:04-41:34)

As moms, we juggle A LOT on a day to day basis.
As I was reading through questions that you guys asked me, I found one common theme: burnout and overwhelm. I am here to tell you that this does not have to be your story. When you try to deal with so much on your plate, you are setting yourself up for failure. No one can handle that much pressure on their own. In this episode we talk about things you can do to avoid burnout, and how to delegate tasks. I am going to really challenge you to self-reflect and dig deep as to why you are trying to juggle so much, and what changes you could make to relieve some of that stress. I will also read some of the questions from my Q+A posts.
You don’t want to miss this one!

Today we are talking with a globally known Life Coach for adults with ADHD, Kristen Carder. She is the founder of, I Have ADHD. Kristen is dedicated to supporting adults who have been diagnosed with ADHD, because honestly it’s something that our generation is lacking in. When most people think of ADHD, their brains jump to children, especially young white boys. The truth is, there are so many adults struggling today due to undiagnosed ADHD. Kristen digs deep to really help us understand what ADHD is, how it affects the brain, how it can impact every area of your life, and how medication can help certain things more than others. Listen to this episode to learn more about how ADHD can run someone's life when left untreated.

If you have been here with me for a while now, you know last October that I was diagnosed with ADHD. Ever since then, I have been learning about the many, many ways that ADHD affects me and my day to day life. I believe there is so much confusion about what ADHD is, and what it looks like in adult women. So my hope is that this episode helps bring light to ADHD and its symptoms, and can help you be empathetic to those who struggle with ADHD, or encourage you to seek help if you, yourself, think you may struggle with ADHD. How do you want to show up as a mom?
Today we are talking with a Life Coach for moms, Shawna Scafe. She is teaching us how our personal values shape everything we do in our lives. Without personal values, we tend to live our lives on autopilot and are very reactive to life around us. This may be a topic you never put a lot of thought into. However, the idea of living based on your values could be the mind shift you need to become the Mom you always wanted to be. Check out this episode to learn more about identifying values, and how to practically honor them on a day to day basis.

Today we are talking with my right-hand girl- Desiree.
Desiree started out as a student in my courses. It was easy to see that she was using all of the information that was given to her to really help her progress into her best self. Desiree is a perfect example of how the natural progression of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs works.
She moved into my Community Manager for our Facebook Group, and then I quickly realized I needed her in every aspect of my life! She’s now serving as my Director of Operations/Executive Assistant/Whatever else I decide to throw at her that day, and I don’t know what I would do without her.

Self Actualized Individual. Have you ever heard of this term?
A self actualized person is someone who makes a consistent attempt to focus on taking charge of their health and striving to improve it. This is someone who is reaching their full potential, and is on the path to greatness. Sounds great right? That’s what we all want. However, a lot of people are wondering how? How can I consistently show up for myself instead of being stuck in a cycle of giving up on myself over and over. Today I am teaching on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. This theory shows us that there are different layers of self care that build on one another. The idea though, is that if you haven’t taken care of the basic needs that you can not progress to the next level of self actualization. Check out this episode to learn more about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and how it can help you reach your full potential.

Is self-care selfish? Is practicing self-care going against the bible?
If you’ve been here with me for a little while, you already know my feelings on this topic. However, the message above is one that’s being spread via social media- making mama’s all over the world feel like taking care of themselves is unbiblical. This message is ridiculous and inaccurate. I believe that this message is toxic, and one of the main reasons why womenall over the world feel guilty for taking care of themselves. Check out this episode to hear more about how I feel on this topic!

The kids are home for the summer...now what!?
I think this thought has crossed all of our minds, whether your kids are home from school for the summer or you are a home-schooling mama. Summer can be a busy time, full of fun activities! However as moms, it’s a normal feeling to think that we need to entertain our kids 24/7. It can be exhausting! It doesn’t have to be that way. It is actually a healthy habit to have your child participate in independent play. It can benefit their problem-solving skills, imagination, social skills, and much more. Listen to this episode to hear Emily talk more about the benefits of independent play, as well as ideas of how to incorporate this into your home.

Boundaries- everybody needs them. Yet, they are something that most of us still struggle with.
When we think about setting healthy boundaries- it can fill us with fear, anxiety, and guilt. As moms, we naturally become people-pleasers and tend to put everyone else’s needs before our own. We have been conditioned to think that this is normal, but it does NOT have to be that way.
This topic is VERY personal for me. Once I learned how to set, and follow through with healthy boundaries, it changed everything for me. Today we are talking ALL things boundaries with Jocelyn Hamsher, a licensed professional counselor and course creator, who runs a private practice in Arizona. She is passionate about helping people heal from trauma and learn to lead healthy lives. This episode is full of great, practical advice on how to set boundaries with yourself, and those around you.

Is anyone else sick of the question- “What’s for dinner tonight?” So was I! My family and I were in a food funk. We were eating the same foods over and over again, and when we weren’t doing that- we were eating out all the time. Choosing food options is super challenging in our house due to food allergies, and picky eaters. So we decided to mix it up and try something new! I did my research and we tried out a few different meal kit providers. For this episode, I brought on my kids & husband to talk about our experiences. Check out this episode to hear their reviews!

When you think of ADHD-what do you picture?
My mind jumps to a young boy bouncing off the walls, tapping his foot, and unable to sit still. So imagine my surprise when I found myself being diagnosed with ADHD. My diagnosis helped lead to a lot of understanding, when it came to why certain situations triggered me more than I thought that they should. In this episode, I am talking with Christina Crowe, as we discuss what ADHD is and all of the common misconceptions..especially when it comes to women!
Christina discusses how all of the symptoms of ADHD are additive. Meaning that if ADHD is undiagnosed, it can lead to anxiety. Then, in return undiagnosed anxiety can then lead to depression. As women, we are so quick to take care of our children, husbands, and families. We are quick to find solutions when one of our loved ones is struggling with something, yet when we are struggling we still tend to put ourselves on the back burner. I am here to tell you, you are not a better mom for constantly sacrificing yourself for your kids. Your health and well-being are JUST AS important. If you have a feeling that something is “off” in yourself, it is your job to advocate for yourself too.
Listen to this episode to learn more about the red flags that you may not have been aware of when it comes to ADHD, how it can be diagnosed, and how it can be treated.

Do you ever feel like you’re always behind- comparing yourself to other people who seem to have it “more together” than you? You are NOT alone!
Today we are chatting with Shannon Leyko, author of the book, You are Completely Normal. Shannon’s book speaks on how as moms we always feel behind in all aspects of our life, and constantly compare our journey to everyone else’s journey around us. In today’s world we are taught that success should be linear and cookie cutter, when in reality success can be a messy ride, full of highs and lows. It’s easy to fall into the “robotic” lifestyle of going through the same motions day in and day out- but isn’t life meant to be more?
In this episode we talk about our tendency to get stuck in this fear/comparison trap- where we are scared to step out of our comfort zone towards something that we know could bring us joy.

Do you ever feel the need to constantly apologize, justify, or explain your actions?
As you all know, I am pretty much an open book. If you’re thinking that just because I have a podcast means that I have it all figured out, you are mistaken. I believe that we ALL have things going on behind the scenes that not everyone can always see on the surface. My therapy sessions this month put A LOT of things in perspective for me.
It’s not always easy to hold a mirror up to yourself and self-reflect. As I really dug deep in therapy with my counselor, I was able to explore and get to the root of some recurring issues.

Just because I feel the desire to do so though doesn’t mean that it’s easy to make that happen.
Today I am sharing what I’ve implemented in the seasons that I’ve made the intentional decision to get up early. There’s not a magic switch that will make this happen, and we don’t have to be perfect, but there are absolutely tools that we can use to make this process easier to ultimately make our lives more streamlined.

I want you to understand that I know how hard motherhood is, because I am right in the thick of it with you. It's also important that I talk about the things we do as moms that might be making our motherhood harder than it needs to be. Today, the thing that I want to talk about that is making our lives harder is complaining. Sometimes accepting the fact that we need to change is hard, but mamas, I PROMISE, your life will be so much sweeter if you do.
